Turkey Gate – The Fiasco That Wouldn’t Die.

22 11 2008

Sarah Palin’s turkey pardoning has indeed caused a big flap (pardon the pun). It’s not so much that we don’t deep down understand where our food comes from. It’s not that we’d expect our rifle-totin’, NRA member for life, moose field dressing governer to be squeamish about the turkey killing that was happening on a turkey farm. It’s simply the fact that she showed without a shadow of doubt that she does not “think outside the bubble” of her own brain. The scene did not offend her, but the critical step of imagining the scene from another’s perspective was completely missing. What about the vast majority of Americans who never get closer to their meat than the supermarket? What about small children who love animals that happen to be watching the 5:00 local news? There are all sorts of distasteful or unfortunate things in the world that are just part of life, but they’re not going to score you political points by standing in front of them and broadcasting it out to the world. This is the problem. Lack of perspective, lack of empathy and lack of understanding that this just might be controversial.

Scott Jensen is the one who filmed the scene. He’s local station KTUU’s award winning chief photographer. He told CC from KUDO radio yesterday that Sarah Palin, who was standing next to her personal assistant throughout the entire interview, chose the spot on which she stood for the “turkey slaughter interview” that quickly went viral on the internet, and received wide coverage in the news media. The turkey slaughter was already underway when the governor chose the spot. The photographer pointed out what was going on and asked her if she wanted to move. She said, “No worries.”

Several of her staff were present the entire time while the journalism-major-turned-governor spoke to the people. And then there was the actual footage of her looking at the guy while he was killing the turkeys.

This was pretty much covered on the day it happened in various reports of the horrifying pr debacle. So why bring it up again? Because now, Palin is denying it, and saying she had no idea of what was going on ten feet behind her while she gave the interview, and is basically calling the photographer a liar.

“The [Alaska] governor did not know it was going on behind her,” Palin’s spokesperson tells ET of the reportedly grisly scene at Triple D Farm & Hatchery outside Wasilla. Cameras captured Palin extending the annual Thanksgiving pardon to one turkey while a farm hand slaughtered the bird’s feathered friends in the background.

Palin’s spokesperson tells ET the bird butchering wasn’t going on when the shot was set up, and a cameraman “ignored” the governor’s staff’s request to remove the graphic sight once cameras were rolling.

Of course, Palin or her staff could have stopped the interview at any time if this had been the case. Considering there were many people there who saw and heard exactly what happened during this interview, and that I know one of them personally, we can feel confident in saying this desperate attempt on Entertainment Tonight to rescue Palin’s image from the turkey pile sounds like exactly what it is – a big fat lie.

Once again the media becomes the whipping boy for Palin’s incompetence, lack of judgment, and inability to understand how she is perceived by others.

KTUU has pulled the footage from their own site, and it aired only on the 5:00 news, but it has now been viewed on YouTube more than 2 million times.

When Jumpin’ Jesus himself slaps you on the back and tells you what a crackerjack christian you are, who cares what anybody else thinks?

Reminds me of the current resident of the White House who told a journalist “Who cares what you think”?

I had to watch the video again because the first time, I missed the news captions at the bottom of the screen: “Pardoned turkey is too filthy for Governor Palin to hold,” “Gov. Palin picks worst possible backdrop for TV news interview,” “Turkeys die as Governor Palin takes questions from media,” “Gov. Palin apparently oblivious to turkey carnage over her shoulder” – these are just a few of them.

Of course any SP supporter is going to blame it on everyone else – their woman can do no wrong. But the out-and-out lying is just like Bachmann’s out-and-out lying; that she never said on-camera what everyone says she did, that it is an ‘URBAN LEGEND’. Ugh.

Sorry, AKM, the vote is overwhelmingly for her to “stay in Alaska.”

So SP is calling the photographer a liar – did KTUU release an official statement? Are they standing by Scott Jensen or are they just accepting Palin’s version of the events? Oh, if only someone in the media would have the guts to state, unequivocally, that her version of events isn’t true.

The turkey slaughter controversy, in and of itself, is of minor importance. Palin’s insistence that “her truth” is always the “only truth” is more disturbing. (Just like W.)

Funny though – she may be able to spin this as the fault of the big, bad media, but she looks like an idiot for not realizing what was going on around her. Again, just like W. How do politicians get away with this?

The biggest question is this: Is KTUU going to have a spine or not? Statement telling their side or not? Hmmmmm expose her as a liar or not?

Hey, KTUU, you have the power to expose this woman’s lies, AGAIN, so do it. With some spine you can ensure that the rest of us don’t have to endure her half-arsed governing for longer than another 2 years!

Good grief. The woman could be filmed holding a decapitated turkey and later claim that she didn’t know that it was dead and it’s all the media’s fault.

The only good thing about this report and the rest of the media’s coverage of her antics is that it makes for a nice, comprehensive, undeniable picture of how brazenly she lies. There’s apparently nothing that she WON’T lie about.

Gubernatorial promises and statements come to mind.

Reviewing this surreal scene over and over again in my mind (can’t help it; this whole SP free-for-all is like a huge train wreck), I’m half wondering if she actually didn’t give a giblet what was going on behind her–or if she instinctively (notice I didn’t say “intellectually”) knew that this local tidbit would make the international media, go viral on YouTube, etc.–hey, it kept her name and face in front of the public yet again. There were almost 48 hours or so that we didn’t hear a peep out of Slappy Palin . . .

I shudder to think about her Christmas PR plans: “I can see the North Pole from my kitchen window, you betcha–and kids, there ain’t no Santa Claus nor reindeer, also!”

22 11 2008

It is not so much about what was going on in back of her, as it was about what was coming out of her mouth. She has no internal filters and is habitually unable to censor herself or her actions. This was an FU to the country, plain and simple. Especially at the and when she commented that a big deal was going to be made out of this anyway….. the woman is a blathering fool.

22 11 2008

The whole stunt was a desperate, rushed, and somewhat lazy effort to be perceived as “Presidential”, by a rube who doesn’t understand that she has become a national joke. If this farce had been set up by the people at The Onion, they would have told the ‘turkey guy’ to stop hamming it up for the camera, because he was spoiling the joke!

The national media is desperate for video of Sarah Palin, in the same way that they were eager to book an interview of Hugh Grant after he had been caught with the prostitute.

Palin, God bless her, has no worries, but the problem here is not merely one of ‘incompetent stagecraft’: Palin’s problem is that ‘the campaign jerks’ are no longer around to stop her from shooting herself in the foot.

Just think how many lives we can save here in Alaska and the big wide world if we keep the phony war- & hate-monger out of any future political office!

“Amnesty and pardon”, says Sarah in that video http://www.adn.com/ ).

How cruel can this lady be? There she is, pardoning a turkey who won’t have the brights to be thankful. and poor Ted’s got to spend millions of somebody’s money to try to reverse his guilty verdicts.

Maybe Sarah could quit-claim the amnesty and pardon over to Ted? Not only would the turkey likely not know the difference, but Ted, Todd and Sarah could break bread over a turkey dinner and bury the hatchets.

Pat, Washingonton state

I finally saw the video – I chose not to watch it here and didn’t watch most of it last night on MSNBC. They were actually talking about the new commercials that start with showing a turkey dinner behind the speaker. I had to turn away for most of the footage from the SP interview, but saw enough to find it even more horrifying than the description.

She really does crave attention. She reminds me of a child who, ignored by her parents, continually misbehaves. Negative attention is better than no attention.

And thank you, Sarah Palin, you have spoiled my Thanksgiving dinner. I’ll have to concentrate to keep those images from popping into my head when we sit down to dinner on Thursday.

I do find her behavior to be somewhat of an oxymoron. She is fervently on the side of Right to Life, but has utter disregard for any and all animal life. You’d think one might extend to the other, especially in view of her (supposed) religious beliefs. Man is supposed to be the caretaker for the earth and all its creatures. (And I say that in all honesty – I’m not mocking Christianity at all. As a Christian, I’m just finding it more and more difficult to believe that Sarah Palin shares my beliefs.)

Interesting idea for you all:

What if she did this on purpose?????????

She can’t very well continue with her self-promotion tour while her state is going to hell in a handbasket, so why not whip up a little sh!tstorm to keep herself in the public eye until things in the state settle enough for her to chat with Oprah???????? Of course things here in AK aren’t going to settle for a long time, but of course she knew what she was doing! She said herself that it would create a controversy, it’s right there in the clip!

Unfortunately we are all feeding that frenzy, which is a shame.

Her lying about it continues to keep it in the forefront of the news, drags it out a few more days, I mean when are we going to stop feeding her ego & going along w/her machiavellian plans?

Let’s make sure the KTUU cameraman gets his side out there to refute her lies then move on from her until she makes news as the Governor of Alaska by doing governor things!

She wanted attention, she got it. The “greater” public didn’t like it, now it’s the media’s fault.

If news organizations are not smart enough to expose her lies and to back up their own employees, then quit covering her!

I have to agree with those that said she craves attention, even “bad” attention, just give me some attention…. Maybe her kids told her how gross it was and she had to lie to them to cover for her and her staffs’ ineptitude!

You can’t deny it’s entertaining….

Now we know why everyone looking to make it big in the media wants to be near Sarah. She has the ability to make a huge nationwide story out of one that should not have even made the local evening news. Look at this “Poor” camera man who is far better known now than he ever would have been otherwise. She’s represents an opportunity for people around her to make a name for themselves.

Every news program, every talk show, every media outlet wants Sarah because they can’t wait to see what stupid thing she will say or do next – and she never disappoints. Have you ever seen an interview where she didn’t say something that left you scratching your head?

Sarah on the other hand seems to subscribe to the idea that there that there is no such thing as bad press. I think she actually has a strategy in this and that she actually did this on purpose. I believe it is all a part of her plan to stay in front of the media and the country and to court the Anti-Media – “Aint they being mean to Sarah” vote.

I think of the Elton John song “Candle in the wind”. If she keeps this up (and she will) the public will soon be burned out on her and Elton could modify his song again. This time, however, the lyrics will be the other way around – “Your legend burned out long before your candle ever did”.

I’m afraid that I do believe that she did this just to get attention. First, nobody outside of Alaska was likely to see this clip unless something about it was outrageous in some way. Second, people behave the way the do for a payoff of some sort–even stupid people. It might be anything from “because I want to” all the way to “because it’s the right thing to do” or “it’s good for everybody.”
Once AGAIN, her payoff appears to be “because it will promote ME ME ME ME!”

Is she trying to show how much “tougher” Alaskans are than the rest of us down here in the lower 48? Cause Alaskans wouldn’t mind footage of their governor in front of turkeys being slaughtered and there are so many “whiny” people down here? Like that was all of what was wrong with it. Like there wasn’t a giant hypocrisy of pardoning a turkey and then going and standing in front of the abattoir.

I think that instead of her and Tina Fey being separated at birth, that it was more likely her and Michelle Bachman. They both seem to have the same answers…Nope I never ever said that…you are the one that has that wrong. And there is no way that you can prove it. Never mind the videotape that you have.

Everything this woman does screams NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER. Putting a special needs infant at risk by giving a speech and traveling 12 hours to a local hospital without the special facilities to handle a high risk birth (if indeed she gave birth.) Her statement, “Bristol can be used.” Keeping Willow and Piper out of school two months during the campaign. Using her 7 year old as a caretaker of her infant. Needs a constant source of narcissistic supply – public adoration, a coterie of “yes” people. Any negative feedback is perceived as criticism. Uses and discards helpful people. Lack of empathy. Classic. Classic. Classic narcissistic personality disorder. And way too scary for public office.

How is that recall initiative coming?

I, too, hope that the station defends its photographer. His career could be irreparably harmed if he gets the reputation that he is not helpful, but instead is detrimental, to the people/stories he shoots. I hope he sues the governor’s staff for libel or slander (depending on whether their criticism was written or spoken). That way the whole video can come out.

If Sarah is so clueless about things going on around her that she does not notice the slaughter of turkeys 10 feet over her shoulder, than she deserves what ever negative media attention she gets. I mean come on, a glance to the left, a glance to the right, a look over her shoulder…??? …while the turkeys are furiously gobbling and the sound of the be-header / grinder in the background are making noise? I could see the whole bank of funnels vibrating and shaking as the turkeys were placed head first into the contraptions…, Sarah was on sight and did not notice or hear that? If not, too bad for her. At least she walked away with her head still attached, not the case for the unpardoned turkeys. I don’t know if I want Sarah to disappear, or remain the nightly train wreck she is for our amusement.

Well, considering her father was quoted in national news as saying “children are always losing their underwear . . .”

Sounds like pedophilic code talk to me . . .

And that sort of childhood (even if the abuse is only mental, not physical) is a major reason for dissociative identity disorder in adults; the thing the rest of us don’t realize is just how pervasive this disorder is in a person’s psyche and why these people have absolutely no problem with being so self-contradictory . . .

There is no easy answer because they do believe themselves in any given moment. What to the rest of us is self-evident does not concern them at all.

Please Sarah, we don’t hate you, and before turkeygate I promised myself that I wouldn’t laugh at you or anything because you do seem to have some sort of serious disconnect. Way back at the beginning of this saga (was it only the end of August ? ) Lyda Green said “I wish the vetting process had been more thorough”. Politely and succinctly stated.

We should start a respectful petition for our governor to resign for the classic reason of “needing to spend more time with her family”. Plus its true.

I think they ALL are a bunch of pea brains in this situation — Palin, her staff, the film crew, and the workers killing turkeys. It doesn’t sound like any one of them used much judgment in this filming. ANYONE of them could have stopped this or explained that a decent film would have been better for the public and for the governor. Although it is amusing, it is just a waste of air time to show such a thing. It certainly doesn’t convey the message intended for Thanksgiving unless the only message intended was to embarrass the governor. Although Palin is an idiot in my view, the TV station could have opted NOT to show this distasteful video to the public.

From this perspective, KTUU “caved”. Either that, or they are playing a good game of poker…

From ADN: http://www.adn.com/sarah-palin/story/597969.html

“KTUU News Director Steve MacDonald said the footage was too graphic, out of context, and should not have made it on the air at all. He said the station wasn’t attempting to embarrass Palin and had a breakdown in its vetting system.

“We feel really bad about what happened. We take our reputation very seriously, we take our place in the community very seriously and the last thing we want to do is harm our integrity with our viewers,” MacDonald said.

MacDonald said the station’s videographer denies Perry was nudging him during the shot. He said the crew thought Palin knew what was going on behind her but believes McAllister was correct that the slaughter didn’t start until after the interview began.”

Sarah Palin is the equivalent of a schoolyard bully. If you cave in to her, you are guaranteed to get more of her bullying. If you stand up to her, it may be ugly for a minute or two but she will back down. You may then be a target of one of her perverted vendettas, but if you stand up to her on that, too, and publicize every stinking thing she does, then she will soon stop.

It’s one thing of a media outlet simply doesn’t run any story about something awful she did. There could be reasons for it–such as not sufficient evidence to support airing the story. I think most Alaskan media does an extra-careful vetting of any story about one of Palin’s twisted actions or comments. And they should. If a media group is forced to recant a story because of faulty evidence, it discredits the organization.

However, once they have vetted the story and found it to be supported by sound evidence, and decide to run the story, they must stand up for the story, the vetting, and the reputation of the media organization. They need to answer every one of her stupid “Wah-it’s-not-my-fault” lies.

So if the Alaskan media wants to stop Sarah the Schoolyard Bully from demonizing the media groups for simply doing their fracking job, they must stand up to her once they have run a story for her.

If, after they have run a thoroughly vetted story, and Sarah Palin starts slinging her lies and blame at the media, they react by doing the bend-and-spread-’em two-step and cave on the story they ran, then it is worse than if they had never run the story. People who are not following the news closely will soon distrust the Alaskan media, and will tend to not believe future stories they run about the blunders and abuse of power of Palin.

I signed up for an account at KTUU, then submitted a “Talkback” query of the station management, asking them if they’ve issued a statement in support of Scott Jensen.

I also asked them if they would please issue a statement verifying that there IS documented evidence on the “turkey massacre” videotape itself contradicting Gov. Palin’s “erroneous” denial statement, as well as eyewitness accounts that prove that Gov. Palin approved the scene background and lied in her denial statement.

My first impression of this matter was that SP is going crazy over wanting to be President. From now on everything the president does, she will do as governor. Trouble is she manages to F*** up every time. So she pardons a turkey — I wanna know how long the pardoned bird will be around – and that was her grand presidential action for the day. But then she decides to add a press conference at a turkey farm? Come on, this isn’t the campaign trail now. She’s stuck in the campaigning mode. What a dummy. What a dumb staff.

Maybe the media staff should have been more forceful about changing her spot — but I bet there is no telling the campaign queen where to stand.

I don’t think she planned this as as way to get more attention — she can’t think that many steps ahead.

Umm, just wondering something. If Palin or her aides had asked for the interview to stop during the interview while “the cameras were rolling”, wouldn’t that be on the audio? There would be proof of that on the tape. Or not.

The woman is clueless. I don’t think she did this on purpose. BUT, I do think she takes every opportunity to get the “Poor Sarah” crowd rallying around her. The moment anything happens, she’s first up with the blame-the-media-it-wasn’t-me defense.

OMG, I couldn’t stop laughing when I first saw the vid on the 5 pm news. I really missed what she said. When I got a chance to see it again, not so funny. I kept thinking, “oh, please, just shut the f**k up”. Such drivel spews from this woman’s mouth. She never pauses between sentences, hell, she never makes sentences. Just a run on blather using the same little catch phrases over and over punctuated only by also, and so, you betcha, cut the spending, and We this and that.

She mentioned the “brutality” of national campaigning. The brutality was she had to face the Brutal Truth of herself. Understandably difficult.

Wonderful symbolism!!
Palin is gobbling like a turkey and is a dumb as they are in that they don’t realize their friends are being slaughtered and that they are next!
She is the turkey that was pardonned for Thanksgiving!!
She actually deserves to be slaughtered. Hopefully, she eventually will be.
That pardonned bird will not make it to Christmas and hopefully, her pardon will be similarly short lived.
Congratulations to the news folk who saw the symbolism and made their footage available.

Hey, what’s with the braindead part of the Alaska population that thinks people at the news station should be fired for talking mean about their poor poor governor? These people have apparently mistaken Alaska for a monarchy or dictatorship. lol. How DARE you be mean to Sarah! OFF with your heads!

On another note, last night my mother asked, “is there any animal that Sarah doesn’t want to kill?” Again, lol. We revisited a question asked a while ago. Does the Palin family have any pets? Maybe a little hamster flying under the chili radar?

She looks back at the grinning idiot slaughtering the turkey….I think it was her twisted way of saying to All Alaskan’s….”I’m back now, and this is what happens to those that cross me!”
Yeah she knew what she was doing…sending a message….

We should start a respectful petition for our governor to resign for the classic reason of “needing to spend more time with her family”. Plus its true.

I hope the Wasilla turkey farmers are verifiable Republicans- otherwise they will be accused of setting up a Democratic plot.
How much footage was shot and when did it start? It might be possible to prove the slaughter began before the interview- in CD’s snapshot the visible cone is blood-spattered. Were they earlier?
And now C. Diva’s name is public.
Palin definitely has the Sadim touch- everything she touches turn soft and brown…

According to an eyewitness, the turkey killing had been going on all day, and Palin had to walk right past the cones, and blood before she did the pardoning, which preceded the interview. AKM

You all remember way back when she was just a candidate and had her talking mouthpiece Meg Stapleton constantly running off at the mouth (think Les Gara’s famous chat with her in front of all the cameras)? Whatever happened to Meg the Mouth? Is she sill the gov’s flack? If so, wasn’t she with the governor for the massacre at the turkey trot? I bring this up because if Meg still has a job with the gov, she should have been there and she should not have ever allowed the interview to happen, especially not in that location. Or, she should have stepped in front of the camera and killed the interview if he wouldn’t stop filming.

So, we know Sarah is lying and it would seem the tv station is lying too. Sarah had no credibility before this debacle, the tv station has its seeping away too.

She is a maverick, but I doubt it was a double bluff, deliberate plot.

This story can only be killed by a better one: Todd leads a SWAT team into the farm to kill the pardoned turkey (eliminate key witness). Turkey sacrificed with Muthee to ensure Palin wins in 2012. Turkey’s head is mounted on the wall of the governor’s mansion to remind reporters.

She is quickly becoming a lame duck. Although it is pobably not a bad thing around Thanksgiving. Mind you I personally will switch to duck this year, having seen her interview. Her behaviour of talking anything/anywhere is the result of trying to go cold turkey on the VP spot. She needs professional help to ween herself off from the spotlight.

Here’s my idea of a Governor at Thanksgiving. Has the “peoples house”, the Governors Mansion, nicely decorated. Sets up a beautiful table for 50 or so. Invitees would be culled from a list of citizens from foster homes, legislative interns, State college students, Bean’s Cafe (for those of you out of state, it is a soup kitchen type establishment), business icons, Alaska Native villagers, and legislators, along with the Governors Family.

Repeat at Christmas.

It should come with the job description.

Chances of the present (non) occupant of the Governor’s Manse doing this are about as good as those turkeys in Wasilla seeing the New Year.

The scene did not offend her, but the critical step of imagining the scene from another’s perspective was completely missing

I noticed this aspect early on when AGIA was first on a roadtrip to communities in Alaska for support. A public hearing was set up with fewer than 3 days notice in Bethel to match the invitation given to (and accepted by) the new Governor to visit Camai Festival. The hearing/information was scheduled for 2 or 3 hours Sunday morning at 11 AM. Sunday morning is quite important to all but one of the 16 or more churches in Bethel (population of 5500) (other churches keep Saturday as the Sabbath). Not just any Sunday morning, but Palm Sunday morning. Not just any Palm Sunday morning but the closing day of a very important regional 3 day get-together. Someone checked at about 11:30 to attend the hearing but the doors were locked to city hall, the venue. I believe the DNR Commissioner was in town. The governor herself did not show, due to a plane breakdown in Nome (she attended an inaugural ball there) so she flew directly to Anchorage. Local people were disappointed she did not come to Camai.

This is a minor event (the hearing, the cancelled appearance, the turkey slaughter). But something like the promise of a rural sub-cabinet that becomes a single person “advisor” who then resigns 11 months later because the position was ineffectual [and was then re-promised at this year’s AFN video speech] is not a sideline happening. Alaska needs leadership and no longer can those on the road system pretend that what happens in rural Alaska doesn’t affect them. For people outside of Alaska, the past ten years of environmental and social change in rural Alaska is also relevant– Katrina was presaged but ignored; a thawing Katrina (global meltdown of economy and environment) is well underway now.

And to appoint non-Native AG Talis Colberg to head that resurrected Rural Sub-cabinet, when there was a huge rally and petition drive, delivering over 2000 signatures to the Governor’s office to immediately remove him from his position was also…well….completely disconnected. She is oblivious to the opinions of others. AKM

A foreign observer here. Sarah Palin must not be underestimated; she is actually quite dangerous. Here are the reasons:

1. There are many people in America who actually think like her (NEVER underestimate the power of ignorant people in large groups; they are the engine for the Great Purges and the Cultural Revolution).

2. She is actually doing a good job in using propaganda techniques, here framing someone else for wrongdoing. Also, in repeating a lie as if it is the truth she managed to get the station to apologise. This ability of her to do this and convince others is reason for concern.

3. Like George W. Bush, I don’t think she’s stupid. Underneath that surface is someone adept at playing political games, like what happened with her mayorship in Wasilla in removing all she disliked.

So the point is: remain vigilant. Democracy demands it.

That is all I am going to say. May you all be blessed (from an atheist).

What happened to the good ol’ days when Sarah Palin flitted around Alaska w/o recognition for anything b’cuz the governor’s job was to pay attention to Alaska; now all of a sudden she got the taste for the bright lights/big city and she dumps her duties in order to get her face on the national news? She is so pathetic and pitiful – I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do something like this before; you lose the election, you go back to where you came from and pick up the reins of the job you were elected to do. Not her, though. I think it’s called derelection (sp) of duties and she should be booted out; she obviously doesn’t want the job as Governor of Alaska any longer.

Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot his father’s warning. For those of us non-Alaskans we can sit here and marvel at how ridiculous Ms. Palin is, laugh at her cluelessness, or her habitual lying. The truth is she is the Governor of a state that has many issues that need to be addressed (as mentioned above with the rural and native problems) as well as the beginning of difficult fiscal times with the price of oil plummeting.

While I agree that at times a political figure has to lighten up the mood it appears as if the Governor doesn’t realize how much work needs to be done by her to improve the lives of her constituents. She needs to be at her desk working right now especially given the fact she just spent 3 months away campaigning with her fellow maverick. She needs to be at her desk and not in Wasilla since people need access to her to get things done.

I would seriously consider a recall if the law allows simply for the fact that she is not doing her job. You can’t run a state while you’re on an extended job interview campaigning 24/7 to be the Vice President. I feel for the residents of Alaska (even if they love her) as their needs are being overlooked simply because their Governor feels her media exposure is paramount and is more important than their lives. Sure the day to day functions of government went on but people elected Palin for the vision of the state she would create when she campaigned to be the Governor.

I’ve said it before and while it sounds harsh, Sarah Palin’s polical career needs to be destroyed before she is a position, like George W. Bush, to cause serious damage to the United States. We barely survived George Bush’s America, I don’t think we will be so lucky to survive a Sarah Palin’s America.

Palin’s emotional and psychological development appears to have become stunted at the age of 14. In addition she displays all the signs of a clinically diagnosed Narcissistic Personality Disorder. In other words, she feels no empathy ( for animals nor humans) and does not understand the concept.

Because she sees no reality outside her own sense of a glorified self–along with an exaggerated sense of entitlement–she does not stop to think how her actions, behaviors affect others i.e. small children watching KTUU news as turkeys are killed behind the governor.

To quote a friend who commented on this spectacle: we all poop but I dont want to watch someone doing it. There is a time and a place for everything and killing turkeys infront of small children who don’t understand where meat comes from —yet—in unconscionable.

This stupid stupid woman needs to be impeached, recalled, impaled, whatever it takes to remove her from power over any sentient being.

I guess the most final way would be to drive a stake through her hear, but therein lies the rub. First we have to find her heart.

Nevermind. I’ll think of something !

Susan (17:21:58) : – don’t feel bad for us, you are wasting your time. We are all quite happy and solid in our convictions, and don’t suffer a bit from our distaste in the governor, except that we of course yearn for a more qualified, and informed governor.

But I am confused by your plea, to “keep her there”. Do you think we are alone capable of getting rid of her? You overestimate us entirely. When Sarah Palin is shown the door, it will be entirely of her own doing, I am quite sure of that.

Also, to anyone who tries to make disparaging remarks about the political leaning of this blog, you should know that in all likelihood you comment will be deleted. These sorts of comments are simply not germane to the discussions that take place here; this is not a platform for left-right rivalry, this is a platform for thoughts and ideas in support of the blogger. Frankly, I am mystified why it appears so many of her supporters bother to read and comment on this site — it is certainly an exercise in futility for sure. Your comments will not be taken seriously and most likely will be deleted, FYI.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if my comment in response to yours gets deleted as soon as yours does for the reasons aforementioned.

Canadian National Broadcasting aired the turkey story- here are the funnier of the 90 or so comments:

Dear CBC,
Please stop reporting “non-news” with my tax dollar.
Thanks, A___

SO, did she spare a turkey to take it home and kill it herself? That would fit, right?

No doubt Sarah Palin will release this turkey so she can later shoot it from a helicopter.

“Palin, holding a disposable coffee cup…”
So what? She’s not an environmentalist? I think we knew that already.

It’s been awhile since I’ve participated in the preparation of live fowl for the dinner table but I have distinct memories of the sounds and smells of that operation. Since I wasn’t anywhere near Palin during the news conference, I cannot tell you about the smells, but I can tell you that the operation going on behind her was fairly quiet. No great squawking, not large chop-chop noises, no turkey poot sounds as the birds expired, no gushing sounds after the man slip the neck, nothing really remarkable.

Had no one said anything about the birds being slaughtered behind her, I would never have noticed what the man was doing. It appeared he was being clean and quiet.

Cannot say the same about the manner in which she butchered the English language while she spoke, however.

I would have been more interesting had they brought birds over one at a time, put their necks on an oak block, come down with the gleeming meat cleaver, and then let the headless bird dance in Palin’s direction. That, ladies and gentlemen, would have been great entertainment!

I amend my previous comment about dissenting opinions being deleted from this board. I was mistaken, my understanding of what gets deleted from this board was a bit off. It appears that only comments which are confrontational, abusive, excessive negativity towards another commenter, etc., get deleted, not simply dissenting comments. Dissenting opinions are welcomed, just not abusive dissenting opinions.

However I will reiterate my confusion about why readers from the hard right seem to be so interested in this blog. It is because these people are *trying* to understand our viewpoint, or is because they wish to persuade our blogger and her readers that they are right and we are wrong? (sorry for the pun.)

Elephantman: “Proof positive that liberals simply project all their faults, lies and corruptions onto others.”

You must have us confused with the republican ticket from that election which Palin helped lose. Whenever they did something, Palin in particular, they’d accuse the opposition (regardless of party affiliation) of having done that very deed.

Take for instance, Ms. Palin and her claim of fighting corruption. She took down her colleague (Ruedrich) on the gas board after he used public resources to help him politically. But she was doing the very same thing before he was doing it! And she continued to do that same thing afterwards!!

But hey, must not allow anyone to point out Palin’s foibles and corruption! According to your types, it’s better to be republican and corrupt than to be democrat and clean. Whatever floats your boat, dud. But the political influence of cruds like yourself are over. We’ve had enough. That includes even those of us with somewhat conservative values. Begone, demonito!!

Thank you to the poster with the Cyrillic initials. Now that we have dodged the initial bullet of the election, most people seem to think that Sarah is just a harmless and entertaining diversion. This is probably intended by the major players in the game.

I just watched a you-tube featuring clips from Sarah’s campaign rallies inciting racial hatred (sorry, don’t have the link but you could google it and probably get several versions). This was only ONE MONTH ago people ! And even scarier than Sarah were the down-home folks in the clips saying all kinds of really creepy things. Now the economy is tanking and there is going to be lots of civil unrest at best. If you think these sorts of events aren’t choreographed in advance you really should think again.

People on the rebound are often more dangerous than they were the first time around. We do need to be vigilant. I hesitate to say something that might sound so new-agey on this forum, but I have had encounters in the dream realm with the entity that is manifesting as Sarah Palin and believe me, there is tremendous power behind her persona. I can recall her very strong frequency signature just thinking about it. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense to most of you, but it will to a few and they will know what I am saying. For the most of you, ask yourself, why does she so rarely refer to herself in the first person, and why does she use the collective ‘we’ so much?

8. Uses public office for personal privilege and gain.

“What about the vast majority of Americans who never get closer to their meat than the supermarket? What about small children who love animals that happen to be watching the 5:00 local news? ”

— For the vast majority of Americans I say wake up. I’m glad that they saw this and if they were disgusted or disturbed they should be. If you can’t face watching where your food comes from you have no business eating it. As for children, why should we lie to them about how food got their plates? There is no dietary requirement for humans to consume meat. If children see this and decide they think its wrong maybe we shouldn’t be forcing them to eat this crap.

“There are all sorts of distasteful or unfortunate things in the world that are just part of life, but they’re not going to score you political points by standing in front of them and broadcasting it out to the world.”

— Turkey slaughter does not “just have to be a part of life”. Again, there is no requirement for humans to gorge themselves on dead birds. Why not consider having a vegetarian Thanksgiving and being truly thankful that no animal had to suffer and die for you to enjoy a delicious meal?

“This is the problem. Lack of perspective, lack of empathy and lack of understanding that this just might be controversial.”

— The real lack of empathy shouldn’t be for the people watching, it should be for the helpless animals that are at our mercy who are getting slaughtered by the billions. Over 9 billion birds are slaughtered a year in the U.S. alone. Why would anyone willingly participate in such cruelty? Because you like the taste? Because it’s tradition? Should animals really have to be tortured for such trite reasons? Why not consider them in your circle of compassion and adopt a vegetarian diet.

What is wrong with children seeing their meat get slaughtered?

Maybe todays effete youth, disconnected from all reality by the cords of their video games could use a dose of reality. Maybe they’ll be less inclined to throw out the “yucky” portion of their turkey sandwich when they realize it used to be a living thing that had to die so that they might live.

Any adults eating meat who are offended by this scene need to grow up. We in the West are so pussified we are offended by a man harvesting turkeys? Is there anything more pure? My gosh, our popular culture is flooded with all manner of trash and this is bad?

WTF are we upset by Palin violating the “meat springs from plastic cartons” mentality?

I have suffered through the Republicans from the days before Tricky Dickster and the Un-indited Co-conspirators. I actually remember Eisenhower answering the press question re “What has VP Nixon contributed…?” with “I’ll have to get back to you on that” during the runup to the 1960 election of JFK.

I also remember our current cowboy clown (get the w pun here? (no offense meant to either cowboys or clowns because he’s really neither)) when, as Governor of Texas, he would carry on about his good buddy Kennyboy. That was his sugar daddy Ken Lay, major campaign contributor at the time. Of course, we shouldn’t judge people by the sewers they choose to swim in…

I agree with Ari. I’m not a vegetarian, but to anyone who might be offended by the video (including children), I challenge you to become vegetarians. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite. A final word on Turkey Gate before comments are closed.

First, for those of you who brought it up, I am a vegetarian. I have been for more than 12 years. But, this is beside the point for this particular discussion.

The point is not whether we need to be educated about where our food comes from, or whether violence against people and animals exists in the world. It isn’t about “growing up” or becoming desensitized. These are all valuable conversations we need to be having on a grand scale. If this video created a few more vegetarians in the world, then great.

However, all that said….the fact that Sarah Palin could not see that this would be a problem is the revealing thing. What the philosophical ramifications are is not the point in this context. This is not a meat discussion. People are wired differently and one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Sarah Palin had every right to stand wherever she wanted. With a hunting license, she has every legal right to go shoot her dinner. What she did wasn’t legally wrong….it was politically stupid. And she had no idea.

All you have to do is read the comments here, and on other blogs, and look at the news coverage she’s gotten out of this. Was it good? No. If she had been a little more savvy and able to view the world from somewhere that wasn’t from behind her own eyes, would this have happened? No. Did this help her already damaged political image? No.

So do the math. She is oblivious.
