Welcome to another moment of Zen….
(That’s our happy way of saying we’re having server/wordpress problems) As the new WordPress gets updated, we’ve been experiencing intermittent issues that result in you not being able to access the blog, and sometimes the forums too…
WordPress often “gives us the opportunity to practice patience and tolerance” and they also do provide us with this lovely snowfall back on the old blog, and also a place to leave comments while we wait.
Hopefully we’ll be back up and running soon.

Update: 6:00pm Alaska Time – ServerGuy is on the scene. Server is busy processing gobs of requests from people to get to the site, that the reboot request has to wait in line. Like taking a number at the deli….
Update: 8:15pm Alaska Time – The Deli has closed and sent us away… So now we are in the queue at the Network Operations Center in Dallas to have our plug pulled, and replugged. I’ll keep you posted!

it does make you wonder what is going on -I remember a couple of months ago when there would be hundreds of comments a night and there was never any trouble and now there maybe just 30 or 40 comments and we have problems..well at least it is giving me time to get some christmas cards and other things done

I spent more time than anyone should on that puzzle. It was the full moon phenomenon. I can never sleep when the moon is full–and no, my eye teeth do not elongate and I don’t grow hair on my palms–but last night the moon was SO FULL so I didn’t sleep at all. Imagine, if you will, a baby chainsaw. Or maybe a baby velociraptor. Yes, they are cute, yes they pee on the floor, and yes they do sleep, but when they are awake they are full speed ahead, crazy energy and No Handles. Not interested in food (no bribery), scolding them makes them More Crazy. Wonderful as adults, but I swear, many of them probably never make it. I think they are direct agents of entropy. Mine was, for sure.

Thought I’d drop in, thought you all might be here since the other sight isn’t loading. I was just sitting here contimplating what it will be like to turn into an ice cube. The wind is roaring out of the gorge and there are flakes twirling outside. I was going to go out to my car for a book I bought today but opened the door and thought naaaa I’ll wait. So I am sitting here with my 1921 Vanco central wood heater cranking problem is since I insulated the house I have to be careful terribly embarassing to heat the place up so hot I have to open the windows might make the neighbors wonder about my sanity. Stay warm mud friends think I’ll dig out my flannels and wool blankets.

It is the biggest full Moon of 2008, as much as 14% wider and 30% brighter than lesser Moons we’ve seen earlier this year. An astronomer would say this is a “perigee Moon” because it occurs at perigee, (When the moon is closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit). Go outside tonight and take a look.
The Moon also is in Gemini, along with the peak of the Geminid meteor shower (and because of the moon-light, will be difficult to see).

Oh, OK. My mudswap pal was (hm, what IS her name over here…) Floridian in France (or something like that; when I post over at the Forum I’ll use her Forum name). She sent a bunch of postcards and a bookmark of Nantes (where she lives) and a box of Lu chocolate covered biscuits and a Lu biscuit notepad and a magnet that looks JUST like the biscuit on the top of the notepad (good thing I saw the magnet on the back or I might have tried to eat it, it looked so real) and a couple of candies and a VERY cool set of stationery in a pretty holder and a tiny address book. It was very fun to receive, esp. since I wasn’t expecting to get a Mudswap from overseas (they’re so wonderful they didn’t mind the extra postage!). My Cardswap card ALSO came from overseas, so I feel very international this year. What a wonderful family we’ve become.
Anyway, if Floridian in France shows up here tonight/tomorrow before the Forum is back up, THANK YOU! 🙂

Hi folks – I was going to send info about Anchorage Mudflats get together – We had just a few of us there, and were possibly observed by potentially unsavory characters that we later regretted not inviting to our table. We made Christmas ornaments with little rubber boots cut out of duct tape and left with fantasies of being guerrilla tree decorators and adding our ornaments to random publicly displayed trees around Anchorage. We all knew at least one other person at the table through other previous work and community affiliations. One of us thought AKM was nearby, but said person was drinking a coke, so my thought probably not – ? If I was AKM I would have a second screen name and identity on the website so I could mingle without revealing myself, a whole new angle on searching for self – Oh, look is that AKM over there?

How funny! I don’t drink Coke, or any soda for that matter, but curious what makes you say that?! Either I’ve said something in the past, or you have extreme intuitive skills! I really was tempted to go peek at Anchorage Mudstock, but I didn’t… And I thought about the “other identity” as well, but I don’t think I would have been very good at it. I hope you all had fun, and am wondering about said “unsavory characters”!! Mudstock drama! I hope someone sends pictures (I can fuzz out faces if there are Anchorage Mudflatters who would like to be anonymous), and a write-up for publication! I love the ornaments! 😀 What fun to stealth decorate trees! I’d love pictures of that too!!

Aeroentropy–I hope you’re better from your fall. I wiped out while heading to work on Friday and have a seriously bruised elbow and thigh. Too bad I didn’t do it on the other side of the street, or I could have sued SP. The Leg staff does a great job on their sidewalks though, so I don’t think there’s ever ice on them for long. At least I didn’t get egg all over me.

A church here is in the process of rebuilding after being totally destroyed by arson almost 3 years ago. It wasn’t directed at the church, but it took out the 110-year old church and the house next door.
I saw the article about Wasilla church fire over on HuffPo. One reader’s comment stood out:

So, I baked an apple pie and played the piano and checked my email and watched a little tv and came back for another try – but alas – the tubes are still clogged.
