Cindy McCain’s Sniper Fire Moment?

16 08 2008

Tonight, both presidential candidates had the opportunity to speak at the Saddleback Civil Forum on Leadership and Compassion at Pastor Rick Warren’s megachurch in California.  During one of John McCain’s answers, he mentioned the time Cindy went to Bangladesh and came home with the little sick child who is now their adopted daughter.  But as he told the story, something seemed different than what I’d been told,  and sure enough, the McCain website has recently revised this adoption tale.

The ‘Cindy Page’ on the McCain website underwent a little change .

It used to say:  “On one of these [medical] missions, Mother Teresa convinced Cindy to take two babies in need of medical attention to the United States.”

It now says: “On one of those [medical] missions to Mother Teresa’s orphanage, Cindy was convinced to take two babies in need of medical attention to the United States.”

So, was Mother Teresa involved in this or not?  The story is sure a lot better if it was Mother Teresa herself placing the child into Cindy’s arms…(sniff).  But oh, those pesky facts that get in the way of a good story.

Put me in mind of the whole Hillary and Chelsea Clinton dodging sniper fire as they fled the plane and raced across the tarmack, running for their lives (or not) incident.  Looks like the McCain’s decided to scrub the website before anyone caught on.
