Let the Battle of the Political Ornaments Begin!

1 12 2008

thanks-santa

During the election season, I enjoyed taking all sorts of informal “polls”.  I counted yard signs, bumper stickers, buttons on jackets, t-shirts for sale, and all sorts of other indicators of the political climate that had no basis in scientific accuracy whatsoever. They were annecdotal curiosities, but sometimes these tell stories too.

Now that December has arrived, there’s another one I hadn’t anticipated – Christmas ornaments.

An Obama-themed Christmas seems appropriate for the many who enthusiastically supported the president-elect, said Kimberly Harris, one of several selling handcrafted Obama ornaments online.

There are ornaments for sale on Web sites such as etsy.com and cafepress.com. Some feature Obama’s face with notes such as “thanks Santa.” Others simply show the blue and red symbol for change that was used in Obama’s campaign materials. “He’s outselling Sarah Palin 7-1,” she said. “People love him, they really do.”

Happy Holidays to all.

That’s a good time. My hubby’s a Republican, I may have to get him an Obama ornament so he can see what a winner looks like. hahahaha

The Palin ornaments that DO sell will likely ALL be on ONE tree – at the Palin-house-that-WHO-built?

Lori – maybe it was Santa’s little helpers.

Funny, my wife was just using a stencil kit over the weekend to put the Obama change symbol on a bunch of older Christmas balls that are losing their colors.

Now they need one of Palin:
“Thanks Santa” with a big red circle and line across her picture. 🙂

I’d love to send Barbie an Obama ornament; afterall, isn’t she meeting him personally in Philly? I wonder what kind of ass she’ll make of herself there – probably fawning and gushing like the stupid runner up she is. I would love to see him glare at her but he’s way too nice. She’s probably hoping for a spot in his cabinet. Ambassador to Russia? Then she could just sit in Wasilla and “work” . . . oh, but she does that now . . .

I like that idea – send it in to cafepress, maybe they can make one – that’s the one I’d love to send to her!!

“He’s outselling Sarah Palin 7-1,” she said. “People love him, they really do.”

That sums it up in my book. People can figure out the intelligence thing and they aren’t buying the Palin BS.

Gov. Palin, you are needed in the state you are supposed to be governing. Hello? Airhead? Anybody home? Oh, just your un-law-abiding friends.

IMO Alaska, you need Merry Maids to clean up your state. That, and some UV light and bleach to disinfect your politicians and their appointees.

etsy.com has a Michelle ornament, too.
I’ll ask cafepress to make a “no Sarah” ornament–maybe it could be the back of the Obama ornament.

More Christmas stuff. Gifts for Sarah. Buy a stuffed polar bear and cub:

“Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Safari Club International want to allow polar bears to be killed and mounted as trophies or used as area rugs — even as these magnificent animals face extinction.

Defender of Wildlife is going to court to stop them, and your meaningful holiday gift can help us save these beleaguered and beloved bears.”

Do you think polar bears think she’s polarizing????? Just wondering. 😀

OT for this thread but the “where’s sarah?” button post keeps disappearing! I tried to get to it just now but was met with an “error” message that the post does not exist. But I just read it 5 minutes ago and then took a look in the shop at the buttons!

“My hubby’s a Republican, I may have to get him an Obama ornament so he can see what a winner looks like”

He looks at you every day, doesn’t he? So he ought to know what a winner looks like already. If not, slap him upside the head and tell him to pay more attention to you.

We’re doing food bank donations in lieu of presents again this year, but I think I can find a few extra bucks to send some of these along to my lovely Dem family members and, OF COURSE, one for our own little tree!

Thanks for letting us know about these, AKM! 🙂

As for a Palin ornament, I’d be afraid it would plow on off it’s own designated branch in a effort to get to the top and just end up pulling the whole tree over with it. You BETCHA!

I would love a Obama, tree ordament, but I’m getting a wreath instead…Watch Barbies clothes! She is wearing the same ones from the RNC

I urge everyone to send this to CREW! And maybe the RNC if we can find the address.

What a great idea to track this via ornaments. For the record, I got 5 Obama ornaments today right here. I’m giving them to all my Republican friends, she said perversely! (My Demo friends can buy their own Obama ornaments!)

I am curious why some nay-sayers are doggin’ on Obama when he hasn’t even taken office yet? Can’t a guy get a break? Let him F something up before you start complaining, alright?

These are just a few of my favorite Obama Christmas items:

Obama Logo Christmas Tree ornament and cards.

I ordered these Obama t-shirts as gifts for a few John Lennon fans on my list Imagine No More – Obama is president! I like the “imagine” ornaments, too.

This Obama “Yes We Can” Poster is now on my living room wall — just gorgeous. I like that it’s not a purely-political looking poster, it’s truly a work of art.

For Christmas presents I bought the teenage girls cute T-shirts from CafePress that say “Peace, Love, Obama” under little peace sign, heart, and Obama logos. Something special for them to wear on Inauguration Day since they almost wore out their Obama campaign shirts before the election. I also got a tree ornament (I picked one that has the President AND Vice President on it, since my Mom is a big Biden fan) and a shirt for myself that says “Party Like It’s 1/20/2009.”
