Thank You to the Anchorage Daily News.

13 11 2008

I would just like to say, “Thank you Anchorage Daily News.” Not a surprised happy thank you, not a gushy appreciative thank you, but the kind of thank you that you say to the dentist that fixes a painfully absessed tooth. Or when your neighbors with the compulsively barking dog finally move. Or the kind of thank you you silently whisper to a sleeping infant who’s been screaming for the last hour and a half.

I say this kind of thank you to the Anchorage Daily News for removing the “Sarah and Me” online photo gallery that has been plastered on the front page for way way too long. Readers were encouraged to post photos of themselves or friends with the Governor. We were treated to an endless parade of people cheek to cheek with Sarah, and leaning into the camera with big toothy smiles. Here we are at the Governor’s picnic! Here we are at Fur Rondy! Here we are at the Miners and Trappers Ball! I couldn’t believe I ran into her at the hockey game! Wow!

So it was with great joy that I noticed that, despite the fact that I still see three images of Palin on the home page of the Daily News, our newspaper at least no longer looks like a fan-zine. I’m not exactly sure when they removed the gallery. It’s kind of like having a headache for a really long time, and then suddenly realizing it’s gone, but not quite knowing when it happened.

Whenever it was…..thank you Anchorage Daily News. Thank you.

Wow…top ten! that you sooo much for you previous post re Prop 8. It is crazy-making that politicians and church leaders think that being gay is akin to choosing to smoke a joint…being gay is NOT a choice…any more than one’s race or nationality is a choice. Thank you so much for your support there for CA and the nation.

I tried to post this on last thread but got thrown into the spam bin. I will try again now.

I simply could not ever be gay. It is something I would never choose. I am only attracted to the opposite sex.

I believe that for the same reasons, gay people cannot chose to be straight. People are who they are. It is just that not all brains are wired the same way.

I have something special in common with Barak Obama, Bill Clinton, George H. W Bush, Gerald Ford, Ronald Regan, John McCain, H. Ross Peroit, John Kerry, Thomas Jefferson, Julius Caeser, Napoleon Bonaparte and Harry S. Truman. Do you know what it is?

While I agree it’s more painful than a toothache to look at Palin daily, I enjoyed searching those goofy photos for scandalous clues. Palin hugging a known KKK member, for example. Palin reading the Daily Worker. Palin smiling broadly with a bank teller while cashing a giant check for a bridge she didn’t plan to build.

You know, typical Palinesque behavior….

@Northern Exposure & Joy —

Welcome to my world! So so so glad to hear that there are others who want her to be irrelevant too! Total media ban, I say! I proposed that days ago and only got one taker, lots of people fascinated in the train/car-wreck way. I understand that, cannot relate to it, but understand it.

While I understand that some may think that she is burying herself everytime she opens her mouth, the problem, as I see it, is that no matter what stupid thing she says, the people who love her will always love her. She will not make any new converts, and she will not drive anyone away, no matter what she says. So, if she’s not appearing on any shows w/people willing to ask tough questions then she should not be given a platform.

I want to hear about the real news in regard to her, i.e. her illegal & controversial shenanigans, but not from HER mouth, because she always lies. Give me some real news or no news at all.

Asiangrrrl was on board with me when I was ranting about it. Now you two + Asiangrrl are my homies!

Anybody starting to feel sorry for Palin? Now that McPalin lost, I am willing to admit to feeling bad for her. She seems so unprepared. Over her head. And arrogantly ignorant of the fact.

13 11 2008
Lee323

If and when she hauls her Wasilla who-who home, renew the investigation in the discrepancy between the Branchflower report and thePersonnel report. She’s hoping Alaska has forgotten about that little business. Something really fishy occurred with the second report, especially being released on election eve. Although the country as a whole repudiated McCain/Palin, Alaska now needs to clean house.

13 11 2008
Denise MadLibFromMSgaAZca

SMR, I think the more exposure Palin gets, the better. The reason is that Palin’s appeal began with being an unknown, and hence able to be presented in the way the campaign wanted (Sort of. When she cooperated.).

All Palin all the time. That is tough on spin-ability. Palin overexposure means her brand is going to be harder to change. And her negatives are high. Overload is going to set in for more and more people. Boredom will follow. Yawn. And then Palin gets put to bed.

I really feel bad for Alaska, but I don’t want Palin on the national political scene.

Still talking smack about Obama & Ayers? WTF? Waiting for someone to pull a Hinckley (spelling?) and shoot Obama to prove his/her love?

No no no no no! She should not have a platform unless she has legitimate issues to discuss! Since she is still spouting campaign talking points she needs to be shut down! It’s all been said before.

She is a dangerous person, and some of her followers are dangerous. This should not be happening.

The wheels of justice here in Alaska may grind too slowly to turn her to dust before something very bad happens. I don’t like what she’s doing and what the MSM is allowing her to do, even ENCOURAGING her to do.

She—and McCain and the Repubs—largely appealed to a white uneducated base. Even though Pennsylvania went big for Obama, there were some serious RED areas. Same in Ohio and Indiana. That sentiment was not geographically confined to the South.

I am VERY curious to hear what Ayers has to say about Palin’s nonstop demonizing of him.

Now that we know SHE decided to launch the Ayers attacks against Obama before the campaign had even decided whether to “go there” or not, the ridiculous use of “palling around” makes more sense. I could never understand WHY a professional speechwriter would use such a silly phrase– as if Obama and Ayers were a couple of kids playing marbles and skateboarding down the sidewalks of Chicago. Both Hitler and Mussolini were considered incredibly talented, passionate speakers, able to fire up a crowd and draw zealous supporters willing to follow them into the mouth of hell! They succeeded by stirring up the most base instincts. These people exist, though I am not sure that SP is up to their standards by any means, but compare the styles as well as the message with those of Obama. He is compassionate, not firey. He draws out love and compassion in every one who listens, she plays on fear and hate and misinformation. Good riddance to her and her ilk.

I believe that some of the Palin appeal to white uneducated voters is less about enthusiasm for Palin. And more about resistance to the changing demographics in America. In that respect, I think it is not against Obama even. But against the perception of losing power that is felt by that group of voters. They see themselves slipping out of control.

13 11 2008

@Lee323:

We have seen in the last couple of days how Palin is without handlers, without speechwriters, without stylists. She can’t speak, she has no message, what comes out of her mouth is without purpose, substance or meaning. She shows herself to be completely insignificant and extremely mean-spirited. She has been cold-shouldered by her fellow Repug Govs and the Republican collective back is being turned on her. She will disappear very quickly.

Re-post from a couple of threads back. Way past bedtime here. Good night all

I’m glad that the subject of Bill Ayers has surfaced again. The egregious labeling of Ayers as a “terrorist” by Palin and her ilk, in my opinion, was unconscionable. I grew up in the Vietnam era, and it was indeed a dark moment in our history. The mission of the WU was to stop the senseless slaughter of lives in a war that was thrust upon us to promote a political agenda (sound familiar?). The draft was a reality, and it was terrifying. They did not plant bombs to kill. I wonder how many of the hate-infected masses who fell in line behind Palin even know the truth. Or would care to, for that matter.

It is so much easier to hate with ignorance than to love with openness, knowledge, and forgiveness.

What program will Ayers be on?

I watched that part of the interview and SP just acted as if she was doing us a favor. I realized then how judgeMENTAL she is. She said, she didn think it was dirty or mean spirited. Do you honestly think if she brought that up, she is actually showing her motives behind those allegations?

I watched a documentary, and there aren’t really red and blue states, but red states tend to be more rural (and slave states) and blue states tend to be more urban. Urban voters are exposed to more “delicious diversity” than people in the rural areas are, and are, therefore, more accepting of it. It also showed that people tend to live where they are comfortable, so more liberal people tend to live in more liberal areas, as do conservatives.

About Prop 8…tell me if I am way off base, but does that mean we could bring slavery to a vote? Could we tell the black people that they have to be slaves again because, even though the Constitution gives them the same rights, the people voted that they should be slaves again?

This article in ADN goes a long way toward explaining why I think she needs to be shut down &/or boycotted by the MSM. Too many people, here in AK, and elsewhere in the US, are not rational! She is not rational, the people that she appeals to are not rational, and THEY are the ones who will do the crazy stuff!

These are the people that you try to talk sense to them and they put their hands over their ears and say la la la I can’t hear you! Had a friend over the other day, she had just gone out and bought herself a .357 because Obama was elected and he is going to take away the guns. I said “where did you hear that? that’s not true? he’s never said that!” and she said “yes he did yes he did yes he did.” She’s been a good friend for many years, and she is a good person, but she is NOT rational about this stuff. I’m not worried about her doing stupid things, but what about all of those followers who aren’t rational about ANYTHING?

Part of the reason African American’s voted in favor of prop 8 passing, was a robo call they received with Obama’s voice.. saying a quote from him, that marriage was between a man and a woman. Obama is not going to overturn the constitution. People will always have the right to bear arms. HOWEVER, they might not have the right to have bullets that pierce through bullet-proof vests or automatic weapons, and (gasp) they may need to register them, so they can be tracked. If they are law abiding citizens, they should have no issue with this.

I have a Glock, but I keep it at the range because I have a teenage son. It is more likely he would kill himself than I would kill an intruder with it.

I saw that Wolf Blitzer made a weak attempt to get her to actually answer a couple of real questions but by the look on his face (same look Greta and Larry both had, same look Katie and Charlie had on those first interviews) you could tell that he could tell (you knew that he knew that he knew) that it was utterly useless!

@Steph:

Incredible the fear coming from the other side about Obama overturning the constitution! Look at the disdain this Republican administration/President had for the constitution as well as every treaty ever signed!

Obama respects the constitution – hey, both he and Biden taught constitutional law! Those people are crazy and dangerous rednecks. I can see that same thing happening in Cracker Florida!

I don’t know how the NRA can condone the absolute free-for-all that they want with the guns after Virginia Tech and the mall shooting in Nebraska. This isn’t the wild west where they might have to go shoot a raccoon eating their harvest or a deer for food or something. We have hunting seasons for a reason. We have rules about hunting for a reason. What is the difference between that and having rules that keep guns safer?

I know AK is a big hunting state…I grew up in Minnesota, where women made sure they didn’t have a baby on the hunting or fishing openers, but no one is going to come to their house and take away their guns.

I know that some states have gun laws restricting number bought at a time, waiting periods, keeping people with records or mental health problams (VA) from purchasing guns. Have these laws been respected?

I remember when my dad, always a kind, gentle man, was suffering from Altzheimer’s Disease and went through a period of paranoia when he thought people were going to come to the house and steal stuff or break in, so he went out and bought a shotgun. Somebody actually sole a firearm to this obviously delusional man (I don’t think that at that time he was completely coherent, or if he was he must have explained his crazy notions to the person selling the guns). Several years later my doctor sister had an elderly patient also suffering from dementia and my sister discovered a handgun in her purse during a visit. When the patient’s son came to pick her up he was completely shocked that his mother had a gun! This is the world we live in!

It’s all scary & dangerous & doing my head in! And that damned ADN! Still churning out crap, nothing of real substance, don’t know why they haven’t put out an article yet saying when in the hell is our governor going to BE our governor and deal with the pressing issues facing us? Oh yea, I do know why, because they utterly SUCK.

Can’t think, must sleep now.

G’nite everyone. Carry on!

Just wondering why Palin traveled all the way from Alaska to Florida for the Republican Governors Convention ?

This, right after a long, long, time and millions of miles on the campaign trail.

Free trip maybe ??

Got used to our ‘Lower 48’ weather and after a few days back in Alaska was freezing to death and HAD to get out ?

My question in all this: Shouldn’t she be home and FINALLY bonding with HER Down’s Syndrome baby, Trig ?

FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real. So many live with one kind of fear or another, never knowing that what they fear is just what someone wants them to fear so they can be kept in their place. I was watching just a little of the Jamestown Story on CNN tonight, and reminded just how far some of the lunatic fringe will go because of their fears.

I had to take a vacation today from all the madness, being mouthed by SP during her continued campaigning in FL. She must be full of fear herself, if she can go on the way she does about so many things she has no way of understanding. I think she sees the writing on the wall, and is coming to know that she is not going to be able to “save” the world. She couldn’t even save her new clothes, or her own children. What remains remarkable is just how long it is taking her to see that it his her choice of words that has gotten her into so much trouble.

Sarah does whatever she can to stay away from Trig. I don’t believe he was wanted (obviously unplanned, but that’s not the same as unwanted) and I don’t believe she has bonded with him at all. She went back to work a few days after his birth. She is rarely holding him or acting maternal with him. I don’t know if this was how she was with her other children because I have no point of reference, but she seems almost…indifferent to Trig. Sort of like taking a 12 hour flight after her water broke.

I had hopes that Todd had taken over parenting Trig, but I saw a video of him passing the baby off to 7 year old Piper, who was wearing high heels and heading up the stairs.

I am here – trying to catch up on errands. I think Brit went away for a few days, Aussie and Zim, where are you? And I see NY Dem, Steph (remember Miss Nancy on Romper Room looking through her magic mirror to see all of us kids out in tvland?)

@NY Dem:

I think she took this trip to Fla becomes she now sees herself as the up-and-coming leader and it is part of her publicity blitz. That is mostly why she became Gov – think about the PR peson she hired as soon as she got elected – as a stepping stone to the national scene. She loves that bright white spotlight!

And I agree about her mothering skills/maternal feelings. Why have reporters in your house if it isn’t really to show what a great mom yourare?

Can someone please explain what an audible is the way she keeps using it? As a nou? I asked the same question yesterday, no on answered me.

I think the reason she is hardly ever seen with Trig is that fact she is the child’s grandmother – no doubt in my mind.

The impression I get from watching all the news shows is that the Republican party just wishes she would “go away already”. Seems like even they are tired of her and she has more than used up her 15 minutes.

oh hi NY DEM.

Yeah you are right on both counts.

I am just on another tab reading a Bill Ayers statement and it has bothered me for sometime, the only mistakes I think Obama did is how he dealt whith both Bill Ayers and Rev Wright during the campaign, distancing himself from them and refering to their actions and statements as reprehensible.

I think that he should have taken the time to actually put both Ayers actions and Rev Wright’s statements in perspective, because there is a lot to see and not all of it is “reprehensible” (the radical and not so radical anti-Vietnam War actions and the role of the black church and black pastors).

Goody for the ADN. I wonder if their decision was due to Palin no longer having an 80% approval rating, or whatever it was prior to the campaign, or something else?

Haven’t been around here much–everything I put on hold for the election is now rearing it’s head. Lots of stuff to catch up on.

However, here 5000 miles from ANC, you have NO idea how closely the Stevens Begnich race is being watched. And NO ONE I’ve talked to is on Uncle Ted’s side, including some R’s.

Unfortunately, we are getting LOTS of press on SP in MIA, both local and national. Ugh, I had hoped we’d seen the last of her for a while.

In regards to the gun issue, we have had an increase in gun purchases in Missouri as a result of the election. It is completely ridiculous and I have never understood why people think their guns are going to be taken away. I live in rural, Northeastern Missouri (I do not like it by the way), and we have a little shop downtown that is a florist/guns and ammo/antique shop. They had a big poster with Obama on their door with some ridiculous claims by a pro-gun group. Of course, they have a gun and ammo sale going on now. It just boggles my mind. I also worried that people were buying guns for more nefarious reasons.

All I have seen about who loves/likes Sarah all seem to be the men, one exception is Mika on Morning Joe.
And if you watch the Governors get together, look at the faces of the older men there when she talks and walks, they are really leering and smiling way too big.

I see her making it to the top or to where she is on her looks and winks and surrounding herself with men, not with any great intelligence.

She knows how to work a crowd, just like she did as beauty queen, runner up there as well.

@Jamie, Floridian in France (01:10:11) :

If you’re still around here, it’s a football term. It wa defined by a few people back a few threads after she’d first said it. It has to do with the quarterback changing the play after they’re lining up and he’s seen how the defense is setting up (I think), so he calls an “audible” change of play to his offensive line.

The Sarah and Me reminded me of those Flat Stanley pictures we’d see or try to go capture with the camera. I found the Flat Stanley pictures far more interesting.

Oh, that the rest of the media would follow their example!

Frankly, I am Palined-out. Can’t the woman shut her mouth?

Oh and BTW, as to “Out of the Closet.” Does that consignment shop get a lot of Valentino jackets from their clientele?
