Alaska, bar the door! Here’s the latest little gem from Governor Sarah Palin. For six weeks we couldn’t get her to talk, and now we can’t get her to stop!
“You know, I have — faith is a very big part of my life. And putting my life in my creator’s hands — this is what I always do. I’m like, OK, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I’m like, don’t let me miss the open door. Show me where the open door is. Even if it’s cracked up a little bit, maybe I’ll plow right on through that and maybe prematurely plow through it, but don’t let me miss an open door. And if there is an open door in ’12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I’ll plow through that door.”

In the district that I taught in for 36 years, if a child had missed as many days as poor Piper did at the beginning of the school year, that child would be repeating that grade level the following year. I really do believe that women are capable of working outside the home and still raising a family properly. How is it that Palin critized Hillary Clinton for ‘whining’ about the press and yet most of her over-exposure ad nauseum interviews seem to have the recurring them of ‘the press was too hard on me’? Methinks the lady has a memory recall problem or she should at least keep her talking points straight.
Interesting that now she is everywhere and anywhere – please make her go away – but was kept from the media throughout the campaign. By the way, I think Katie Couric deserves a special award for exposing this nitwit – and thank goodness she did!

It is so troubling to me that a certain Alaskan governor really thinks that her creator cares about her advancing herself in politics. She’ll keep on looking for the next door to plow through, and if she sees an opening anywhere, it will be there because her creator showed it to her. And she’ll take it to mean that she should, by any means possible, carry out her creator-given mandates.
When the door got slammed in her face, she didn’t interpret that as a sign to go away. It was just a sign that her time was not yet right. She must believe that her creator has great things in store for her. She has no plans to change how she does things. She’ll keep plowing. Her ambition is insatiable. I fail to see how that sort of personality would benefit anyone outside her bubble of delusion.
I just wish instead of plowing through doors, she’d just quietly shut the door of her home and take better care of her kids. Seems like all they eat is moose stews, chilis, burgers, etc.

I just read a story in Vogue magazine entitled “All the Vice-Presidents Women” There is a photograph of all the Biden women. They are classy, intelligent and profoundly beautiful women. Michelle Obama and her family exude the same class and style. The merging of these two families as the nation’s First and Second families just feels right. Seeing all of them on stage when President-elect Obama made his acceptance speech, was a breathtaking and symbolic moment. It was harmonic.
Picture McCain and Palin’s dysfunctional families merging on stage. That merger would not have had the same visual harmony as the Obama/Biden clan. No, It would have felt like a screeching trainwreck grinding to a halt.
If Sarah continues to open her mouth and spout off inane comments, even the Conservatives will want her gone within a year or two.

Did anyone else catch the portion of Greta’s interview when that annoying kid Piper showed up? She asked her questions about finally go to school since her return to Alaska…Piper said it was hard…hard to catch up after missing so much time…and good ol’ mom jumped in and made excuses and put words in the kid’s mouth…..disgusting. She’s a control freak at this point…she ought to just go away and quit subjecting the world to her cover-ups and excuses for everything…and how the hell makes moose hotdogs in a designer suit? Was that to show just how folksy she is? Also, I noticed Bristol slither down a staircase and rapidly disappear from the camera’s view….

As someone who cares… I’ve taken care of the door problem..
First, I replaced the door with a steel fire door, with double key deadbolts.
Second, I installed a Sloman Shield alarm system in case she gets in.
Third, I installed a laser that will instantly vaporize anyone managing to get in.
Fourth, if the laser should fail, 4 very hungry pitbulls, with lipstick are waiting for a meal to enter that door.
Fifth, a Predator drone with 2 hellfire missles will hover overhead.
And finally, if all else fails, AKM will be positioned to trounce if Barbie Grifter still gets in.
Seems to me that God has already spoken and told her no!

Has anyone read “Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned the Political Establishment Upside Down”?
Last night I was talking to a friend from northern CA who voted for “Sarah”. After all our conversations, she decided to vote for her because of this book and her “friend” from Alaska who is convinced that Sarah is the saint that Alaska is looking for. Obviously, I wasn’t too convincing before the election to get her to switch her vote.
I asked her if she knows about the ethics conviction, possible fraud charges (trips, house, clothes, etc…), and the anti-American AIP. The only thing she heard about lately is Joe the Plumber (she wasn’t watching the news, I guess). I said “What does this have to do, really, with Sarah Palin?” Geeeeesh! I suspect that my “friend” is being dishonest. She voted for Sarah because she is Pro-Life. That’s all. I said, if she cares so much about children why weren’t her children in school instead of being hauled around the country?
My big point in all of this is that “YES, people will probably support Sarah Palin as Senator or as a frontrunner in 2012.” So, we need to be ready.
Just what kind of disjointed, rambling English does she speak? I really can’t follow it, I maybe catch a few words here and there. And I just don’t know how self-respecting Republicans let her get on the national stage.
One more thing. I guess Sarah’s relationship with God is not my business. If she feels she is doing God’s will……fine. But, I personally suspect it is SARAH’S WILL that takes priority over God’s will. Didn’t Jesus say…. You will know them by their acts? Her actions have not been very Godly during this election and before.

I just can’t believe that there are people out there that can take her seriously as a presidential hopeful for 2012. Someone with her belief systems should never be allowed to lead a military force. Tomorrow she’s supposed to speak at the Republican Governor’s Conference AND treat us to her first press conference. Pretty mavericky to hold it AFTER the election. Should be something to behold. Hope she gets asked some real questions and follow-ups. She’s been getting away with murder in these interviews.

Nice cartoon, but knowing that Alaskans are familiar with snow, the image that arose when she said “*plow* through the door” was of a large Alaskan snowplow, like thisor even this railroad plow crashing through the house, knocking it down.

I think the KEY here is her saying “HER CREATOR” which is different from the Creator of all the rest of us.

This is what I never hear Sarah Palin tell us. What ideology does she represent? What is her world view? How can she help this country? Heck, we know it isn’t through any deep knowlege of important issues, simple geography or even a basic understanding of how the government works.
I personally am tired of hearing Sarah Palin is the new face of anything. SHE REPRESENTS NOTHING BUT HERSELF! She has never expressed her ideology, her world view or her stance on any issue at all.
If her world view is dictated by this very personal relationship with God, then I think I’m not the only one who want details on what exactly this view is.
What I really believe is that her world view besides being shockingly uneducated, overly simplistic and completely ill-formed is also quite radical and would probably shock even some of her most fervent base.
Let Sarah keep talking, but please, could someone please just ask her even one question that tells us something about her? Please?????
You realize everything we really know about how Sarah Palin thinks or feels about important issues we never heard from her.
She can’t go away until she has buried herself completely once and for all. We can’t look away until she does that–in part because this has been traumatic and we need some kind of resolution.
As for her voice from God: don’t you see? Obama won so that she could run in 2012, because if she had been 1st on the ticket she would’ve won, of course. This is how a narcissistic sociopath gets divine guidance–mold and shape reality to suit your basest desires.
I’ve been unfortunate enough to know a Sarah in my past. Trust me, protecting the door isn’t enough. Seal the window, keep a fire lit at all times in the grate lest she comes down the chimney, and even then she’ll turn into a noxious miasma and penetrate the very walls themselves. She must be stopped. She will be stopped but it won’t be quick or easy.
She’s not a barracuda, nor a pit bull. She’s a succubus.
There hasnt been much press on SP in all honesty, at least where I am, down here in Washington. From time to time, her name is mentioned in an interview, but nothing…and I did check the GOP website, just out of curiousity I wanted to see what they think, I did that a few days ago, there was one thing mentiong SP as a speaker for the upcomding gov. convention, then there was nothing there at all, and there was a small message to congratulate Obama and BIden.
As for the door, I think only for entertainment purposes, but the people arent amused anymore it seems to be only in disgust.
As for Alaska, I think it really puts us on the map as a place where our leaders dont know anything, even in SP’s interview with Matt Lauer (spelling?) she didnt say ANYTHING, she didnt even mention one thing about a publication or magazine or news media she reads. All she told him was “Katie Couric ” annoyed me. But still …no mention about an answer to the question, what do you read. All she said was, of course I read. I was so irritated that she dodged the question, when it happened and said, you know Alaska isnt some foreign… place or.. some place way out there we are a part of the US. (not her exact words) but im guessing, using broken incomplete sentences.
In all the media I have followed the election, I have heard no follow up stories. I read the NY times, and the one thing i noticed about the media in Anchorage (because I did check) is that they were more credible down here, the NY times, and CNN and yahoo news even… explained the story TRUTHFULLY, when SP was found to not have violated ethics code, but they also mentioned IT CONTRADICTS the first investigation and this second one is appointed by SP, and one source says, it was appointed by the Gov. I think she didnt like that at all.
The whole troopergate story, brought out several things, the most important comment is, if this lady is a step away from being president , I dont feel comfortable knowing her husband has access to her office. So, they lost alot of votes…. there were a handful of women who “considered” voting for them, till these stories came out.
Just so you all will know. I was worried though when they published the map of the white house. hmmmm

Palin’s sense of entitlement knows no bounds. Please fill me in, Alaskans: what is the precedent for an Alaskan governor to have their main office in Anchorage? I thought the capital of AK was Juneau . . . and I’m trying to figure out why there isn’t outrage that she isn’t living in a permanent home in Juneau right now.

About the pro-life movement…
Someone upthread said she suspecter her friend voted for Sarah strictly because she was pro-life. But in 4 years, it is very likely that Obama will have replaced at LEAST two Supreme Court justices. This is going to put the reversal of Roe v Wade out of the question for at least 20 years or so (depending on how many Obama replaces and their ages.) So electing a Pro-life President will be virtually meaningless. I read that they were going to increase picketing clinics and “grassroots” efforts. But Roe v Wade will be safe for awhile, so I can’t imagine that abortion will be a huge issue in 12 or even 16.

We definitely see both sides, and these otherwise nice, normal, intelligent people have tunnel vision when it comes to the issue of abortion.

I just opened my mail at work. I am a life long Democrat. Imagine my surprise to get a letter with the seal of Alaska and the return address of “Office of the Governor of Alaska.” Inside is a cheery letter “signed with warm regards by “Sarah” and a card for me to return if I want a FREE guide to Alaska. There is even a picture of Governor Palin included.
The odd think about the chatty letter from “Sarah” is that she talks about “…camping, fishing, clamming, hunting, hiking” Shouldn’t it be spelled “…campin, fishin, clammin, huntin, hikin” ?
Actually, there is a great idea. I should take a week off of work and fly many time zones north and west to go clammin in the mudflats of Alaska. Hmmm, works for me. I am sold. I am flying my wife and kids with me to go clammin in the mudflats over the Christmas holidays.

One of the things that is so stomach churning and spine chilling about people who have the I am chosen, I am destined, I am with God and God is with me attitude is that you virtually never hear them acknowledge that if those statements are accurate for them, that they are accurate for others as well, even others that they don’t personally like or want to be given goodies by “their” God.
You don’t hear Palin, or Bush acknowledging that God has chosen other people to receive certain gifts or opportunities and praising God for a gimmie, that they wanted for themselves, but God chose to give else where. Or that God just bared their entrance to something they really wanted. God didn’t just not open the door to McCain and Palin, he picked them up by the scruff of their necks and threw them out the barroom doors into the street and a pile of warmed over horse pucky.
Assuming Palin’s premise, God opened wide the doors to Obama and Biden, so she should be praising God and hallelujahing all over the place for them.
Incidently I assume that Palin is getting paid for all these appearances, in at least 5 and 6 figure amounts. She’s certainly rushing through those doors.

When I was looking through some of the Palin family photos from early in her announcement as VP, and there is one of Bristol holding Trig with Levi sitting next to them, and kissing Trig on the forhead. It’s the kind of love a family shows an infant, but as others have said, it’s not something you ever see from Todd or Sarah. They know how to have babies, they just don’t know how to raise children.
I also caught the way Sarah jumped in when Piper was saying how hard it was to be away from her friends and to make up the school work she had missed. I really gave the Palins too much credit. I assumed, apparently wrongly, that they would have had a tutor along with them so Piper could keep up with her school work. And yes, in most schools, missing that much school would automatically mean that a child would need to repeat the grade. There must have been someone in Wasilla that would have taken Piper in for the duration of the campaign so she could stay in school. And what about Willow?
Oh, one more thing about Piper in those heels. Aren’t those the ones that Sarah wore when she returned to Alaska that AKM pointed out as being so inappropriate for the weather? Well, at least they are getting some honest use as dress-up shoes, but Piper, honey – take them off before you carry around your brother.

Teri “Promises to keep” will simply take your breath away. I’m still impressed by the book and Joe Biden, who seems to recieve little notoriety for having been through so much, and having given so much to our country. Little said of his huge efforts and support of Obama on the campaign trail. Sad.

Before I head off to bed, I just want to say that I couldn’t agree more. The Obama’s and the Biden’s ooze love and family values. They have never dragged the daughters or granddaughters around like props. Michelle and Barack and Jill and Joe so obviously love and respect each other, holding hands, kissing, whispering to each other. My husband was so struck by Michelle the other day, as we watched the Obama’s get out of their car and join the Bushes at the White House. He said “Seeing Michelle at the White House is so much more stunning than seeing Barack”. Amazing to see a woman so smart, so confident, so lovely and comfortable and I love hearing her talk – she is warm and funny and smart and real.
When the serious Repub candidates begin rolling out their 2012 campaigns, Sarah will go down hard and fast.

I think someone asked above if you could use a snowmachine/ snowmobile for plowing. The answer is that it wouldn’t be a great idea, because the treads need snow to turn on. And if you’re pushing all the snow out of the way, then there’s nothing for the treads to grip. If you run them on bare ground/ pavement, they wear out pretty quickly. That said, I guess you could probably rig some kind of hanging-off-the-side-plow, if you really wanted to. But why would you want to?

Someone mentioned earlier about the possibility of Piper dropping the baby, since she’s so small herself (and teetering around on high heels). Maybe that’s part of the plan. I just saw the video last night–I don’t remember which interview it was–when Sarah butted in and called Piper “sister”. I have read opinions on the use of “sister”, but it struck me that the manner in which it was said it sounded like a “be quiet and agree with me or else” code word. Piper’s immediate capitulation seemed to back up my gut feeling.
The plan for Governor Palin to go National with mass mailing invitations for people in Pennsylvania to go clamming, etc in Alaska must have been in the works since before the election. Looks like she was already working on her Presidential campaign. I never before received junk mail from “Sarah.”

Whether it was the word “sister,” or the tone in Sarah’s voice or something else, Piper capitulated and knew she could no longer voice her own opinions. She must be pretty cowed. Neither of my kids would have put up with those long campaign speeches. They would have made too much trouble for me to have along on something like that–on purpose to get out of it. My kids had minds of their own and both would have known that school was more important and friends more fun and stood up for it.

My suggestion for the junk mail is to send “thanks but no thanks” messages multiple times for each one she sends. Or even multiple requests for literature. clog up the email accounts and servers, and have the dept of tourism sending out loads and loads of brochures.

Sarah Palin seems to have a sense of entitlement where her family is concerned. Because she’s a wife, mother…woman…does that entitle her to bill Alaskans and the RNC as a package deal for all her family’s expenses? Does she plan on paying back any of the money that she billed the taxpayers for frivoulous airfares and exquisite lodging for her children?
She recently commented that the elite media didn’t bother to find out who the mother of Trig really is…and claimed she released her medical records. She released a two-page doctor’s note at the eleventh hour…..hours before the polls opened. Why? If she really wanted to dispel the rumors of the child’s birth she would have released them early on.
Please ask followup questions when her stories just don’t make sense…so far no one but Katie and Charlie have had the b*lls to press her for clarification. She keeps getting away with her assinine explanations.

There are as many ways to interpret the bible as there are people so I am as likely wrong in my interpretation as I am likely to be close to correct.
My take on that is that if you knock on God’s door he will open it. In other words God will take you to him if you just ask. You don’t have to kill dragons, or climb snow capped mounts or swim croc infested waters. All you have to do is want God and he will open the door to righteousness for you.
But Palin sounds like she believes God will give her earthly goodies if she knocks.
Either way neither Palin nor Bush effects me the same way as a person who is truly imbued with peace and grace. I am sure all of you have known someone who is like that.
That kind of person, one who is truly at peace, doesn’t have to keep telling other people how much they relate to God, they don’t have to. To me that is where the concept of the halo came from. Some people glow, they are radiant.
The rest of us are stressed, and angry and fearful and that shows too.
Wolf better keep track of his feet after his interview with SP, also.

Bear with me on my ramblings here. I would like to know if others feel likewise.
Twice now, Sarah has entered into my life at a most inopportune time.
1. Right after the Obama convention speech and
2, Right after the Obama presidential win.
No time to savor the experience.
Now don’t get me wrong, when she was announced, I told some friends that I thought she was fresh, appealing (to many), and a real roll of the dice that would upset the apple cart in many ways. Someone that *could* appeal to *some* women and a lot of men. (Sadly, not everyone looks as closely at skills as the audience here does)
I feared her appeal the most the day she was announced.
Unfortunately at some level I was correct and she sucked out much of the oxygen associated with the wonderful closing event of the Democratic Convention. And for that, I was bummed out.
Now, “… there she goes again …”. After the Obama/Biden win, we don’t get even a week to relish the progress it implies or to celebrate the “victory” in preparation to move forward, without her once again “sucking out much of the oxygen” of the moment.
Of course much of this is the “fault” of the media. I cannot fully blame her for “taking advantage of” the “opportunity. No matter what I think of her politics or “readiness”.
Is it just me or is anyone else feeling this way.

I watched most of the PBS Atwater program last night. I really wanted to stay to the end because I really wanted to see him sick and dying, but I just couldn’t stand it.
One observation, though: he and Bush Jr (who seemed to be very special friends, indeed) were defintely on cocaine or meth. At some points when Atwater was performing on stage, playing guitar, he looked like Dennis Hopper in “Blue Velvet.” And Bush Jr had that white-all-around-the-pupil stare of being under the influcene of some sort of an upper.
It was gratifying to see that Atwater turned on Rollins and stabbed him in the back. Rollins played big role in empowering Atwater. Since he was so willing to aid the plague called Atwater, it’s nice to see that Rollins suffered the effects.

IMPORTANT: If you truly believe that her statements might incite violence against the president elect, call the Secret Service’s local office, right now. The number for your local field office should be under “Government Listings” “United States Government” or similar headings.
During the 2000 election and post-election debacle in Florida, there were so many violent posts on freerepublic.com boards that a small group of us, on shifts, would read the posts.
There was a lot of impotent chest-pounding buffoonery, of course, but I found two series of posts that I found worrisome enough to call the SS and report it. I had to walk them through finding the posts, but in both instances, before the poster was kicked off the site, they posted that the SS had contacted them.
So they do take it seriously, and we should, too.
When I get home I will watch the program and, if it is inciting violence against Obama, I will be on the phone to the SS in 2 seconds flat.
When you call them, give them specific quotes, stick to that particular interview and its contents, with mention of her previous pattern of such comments. In other words, stay foused and realize that if you sound like you are out to get Palin, it won’t help anybody but perhaps Palin.
I think we all need to calm down and put SP in the box where she belongs. There is still a bit of a frenzy/fallout from this recent election with the Repugs scurring to save face and find the “fresh voice” in their failing party. Who do they have to showcase at the moment? Jendal? Not too many up and coming young voices in their party worth listening to – and unfortunately, SP is one of the few.
Since SP is virtually all that the Repugs have to hold up their party for the moment – let ’em have at it. She will spin herself out of favor soon enough with her double speak and acrid tone. She will soon be pissing in the wind and she will be the one that’s all wet.

There have been many comments on this earlier but I feel the need to comment on this as well.
Growing up in a family where the elders and the youth “looked after” the toddlers, I can relate to the younger siblings being close to the new baby.
BUT … two things bother me.
1. The amount of time that Piper is the sibling handling Trig(?)
2. The way SP holds this child.
Of course it is none of my business but it seems that the 7 year old is spending more time taking care of the child that probably needs EXTRA parental care at this stage than one might expect. This is not a comment about either child but about BOTH parents! If the elder daughter was the one we saw more of then I would not have such a feeling.
And how a child is held does not mean how much a child is cared about or how much the child is loved, BUT … something just does not feel right. Others here have made the “sack of potatoes” comment and I had a similar thought. Maybe it is an Alaskan thing and I just don’t understand. (I doubt it)
Again, I am not one to try to guess how much either parent loves their child. It is just that I get a “not so good” feeling when I see it. It is only perception and is really not my business but I felt I could air this here. Again to me it is a reflection of something about the parents. Hmmm …

I’ve been listening to Sarah on Wolf Blitzer’s show on CNN and am now exhausted. Trying to sort through all the miscellansous words to make sense out what she says is a lot of work. I want to take a nap now. I think I sill skip the Larry King Interview tonight.
But, she is very, very misleading. she claims that she will not be so egotistical (her words) to appoint herself senator if Stevens is kicked out because of his “4” (her words) felonies. She knows damn well that there would have to be a special election. She alluded to that, but did not make that clear to Wolf. Does this woman ever say a straightforward truthful statement?
What IS with SP using “progress” as a verb all the time?
Yes, it can be used as a verb instead of a noun, but not the way she is using it in all of her recent interviews. It makes my brain wobble.

JC, I share your feelings and your concern.
I’ve looked at an awful lot of pictures over the last few months, pictures of SP’s family and OB’s family and JM’s family and JB’s family. I am a mother of three, and I can see, in the faces, of OB and JB, something very real and very loving and very compassionate. But I don’t see that at all in the pictures of the families of the other two…
And as a mother myself, I am appalled at the absence of family love/emotion in the Palin clan. The elder son was disconnected. The eldest daughter is half-embarrassed and half-dizzy, but disconnected. The middle daughter is rebellious and disconnected. The youngest daughter is scared and disconnected. The baby has no chance to achieve even his limited potential, given the way he is passed around to anyone whose arms are not currently tired of holding him. The husband is interested in only 2 things: winning snow machine races, and sharing whatever office his wife waltzes into.
Sad, so very very sad to see this…

Palin acts as if her kids are a duty and a burden. Maybe she truly feels that they’re a gift from God, but it isn’t a gift she cherishes. What she wants is the power, and these gifts get in the way. Perhaps she needs to remind herself where Christians say all power resides.

Wolf Blitzer did try to nail her down on what new things she has to offer the Republicans (after she had buried him in word salad), but she giggled and refused to say anything specific. That’s because she has absolutely nothing to offer except her own sparkling personage. Well, that’s just not good enough.
AW come on now… we have to remember, what we resist persist! The more we resist this woman, the more she will adhere to what she learned in PR 101, “it doesn’t matter what you say in the press or what the press says about you as long as you are getting press coverage.”
Every time we click on a link with her name on it, we give those who count those things reason to want to hear more of her nonsense. Every hit counts in this new world of counting who stands out in the MNM. She wouldn’t be getting any coverage if her numbers weren’t still high and rising. When we stop thinking of her, listening to her and watching others watch her, she will begin to fade away. Have they forgotten that they HAD a “pro-life” President for the last 8 years and Roe was not overturned? My theory is that the Republicans don’t WANT RvW overturned, because then a lot of Republicans will begin to look into their own self interests and become Democrats, or at least vote that way. Yeah, they still have other things like gay marriage and war mongering (with my kid, not theirs!) to worry about, but their main purpose in life will have been achieved.
I seriously was terrified when McCain did the airquotes over “health of mother.” I could well be dealing with dialysis and waiting for an organ transplant right now. I don’t think my “health” should be disregarded so completely.

It is not Sarah that I worry about in 2012 or 2016.
Remember, she was **hand picked** by McCain and a few “associates” this time around. Next time she would have to make it through the wringer like Clinton and Obama. There are so many quality candidates out there that will steamroll her long before that time gets here. She is getting airtime now but later, her message will be seen as weak compared to an anticipated much sharper Republican message.
Yet, I hope she stays on the air dividing up the airtime that might be there for someone who might be a stronger candidate.
If she is on a ticket, she is not likely to pull NEW voters. Many of the Republican votes this time around were for the McCain of old and he probably won’t be on the future ticket.
Now, I just wish the media would take a few minutes to ask questions of another person that was on the VP side of the ticket … our man Joe!

Ted Kennedy kind of did. It took him most of his adult life and his party never put him up for President, and I doublt he would have won had he gotten the nomination. He just has too much negative baggage. And of course his family is stinking rich and politically powerful. (but we won’t mention that part)

As a mother of a 6 & 7 year old who commutes 2-3 hours per day, I struggle with constant guilt that I’m not there enough for my kids even though I pick them up by 6 and assist with homework. Does she not think she owes any responsibility to helping those kids be all that they can be? Egads…I feel sorry for those children especially the youngest.
Took a break but still lurking daily to check the election up there. I just had to add that my eight-year-old daughter commented to me that she doesn’t think SP holds her baby right. This is not something we really mentioned in front of her with so many other more pressing things to talk about in the news, but it sure says a lot that a child noticed and did not approve. “Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday she would consider serving in the Senate if God gave her the opportunity and Alaskans wanted her to take the job. The state’s senior senator, Republican Ted Stevens, held a dwindling lead as the count resumed in his re-election bid…………
……..Palin, who was the GOP vice presidential nominee, has two years left on her term as governor. She told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday that she wants to serve her constituents the best she can. “At this point it is as governor,” she said.
“Now if something shifted dramatically and if it were, if it were acknowledged up there that I could be put to better use for my state in the U.S. Senate, I would certainly consider that but that would take a special election and everything else,” she said. “I am not one to appoint myself or a member of my family to take the place of any vacancy.”
Pressed in a separate interview with CNN’s Larry King about whether she would serve out her term as governor, Palin said, “I will do what the people of Alaska want me to do.”
She added, however, “if they call an audible on me, and if they say they want me in another position, I’m going to do it. … My life is in God’s hands. If he’s got doors open for me, that I believe are in our state’s best interest, the nation’s best interest, I’m going to go through those doors.”
While she was on the GOP ticket, Palin put aside questions about Stevens’ Senate seat.”

Funny, any door God has ever opened for me always seemed to have been thrown WIDE open – so far open that I couldn’t miss it! Maybe Palin needs to reconsider her interpretation of what God offers as an open door and what her own desires and greed are directing her to do.
Anyone ever notice that everything that she says reads like a 13 year-old girl’s Myspace Blog? Not that I’m trying to disrespect 13 year-old girls, but I’ve noticed this with just about everything that your trophy governor says as well as from some of the writers–Katheryn Lopez in particular–at once respectable publications like National Review.
Pat Buchanan once wrote that Mayor Berry’s repeated election, even after his coke busts, was proof that Washington, D.C. wasn’t fit for democracy. Looking at Mrs. Palin and the possible majority that voted for a convicted felon, one is almost tempted to ask how much of Alaska is fit for democracy.
You have to booby-trap the door, no bricks or heavy dresser is strong enough. lol At any rate, keep up the good work here. This site and Andrew Sullivan seem especially deserving of praise as the rest of the media seems to be largely ignoring what a disaster your bafoon of a governor is and how terrible it is that she could even come close to winning *anything*.

In re the sack of potatoes thing.
Bare with me a bit. I’ll try to be as short as I can.
In the early 80’s or late 70’s there was a study of the development of babies and mothers. It filmed from overhead, mothers changing their baby’s diaper. Watching the same “couples” over and over they realized that there was a quite complicated pax de deux between psychologically healthy mothers and their babies. Arm, hands and for babies leg movements were actually coordinated, not random, head movements, eye contact, facial expressions of the baby and vocalization between the two were as well. This coordination of movements and reactions began developing in early infancy.
It did not develop between schizophrenic mothers and their babies, movements never became coordinated between the two, there was no dance.
Combine this with the comments in Mudflats from a special needs child’s mother that DS babies do not have the muscle coordination of normal babies (one of many reasons for the Palins to stay home and learn to take care of their child). A developmentally challenged child will also not learn to “dance” with their parent, like the babies did with their mothers in the study, as that part of the brain is absent or slow to develop.
And obviously a 7 year old can’t hold a baby like an adult and shouldn’t be carrying the child around anyway.
Your instincts are right that it just doesn’t look right when they carry Trig. You are used to recognizing a very subtle but meaningful communication/coordination between adult and infant. That lack, with the Palins, is probably a combination of their failure to learn how to best care for Trig and the result of his own genetic damage, both in that his muscle control is retarded and that he has less ability to read the parent and develop the dance with them.
My personal opinion, the Palins will ignore Trig’s special needs until it is too late in the early development of his brain to really be able to impact his development in a positive way.

I think God did give Sarah a job. It was to mobilize people in opposition to her and her kind being in control of our country. I very much doubt the god or any one else for that matter would be terribly happy if the US became a facist theocrisy. Might really screw things up.
SP reminds me of a babydoll I had as a child one with a string in the back that you pulled to make it repeat about 5 phrases. I being so fascinated that it spoke, I would pull the string over and over and over again — until an adult would take soon it away from me.

My ex-sister-in-law, (who became quite the evangelical religious fanatic as she got older), used to call my niece (her daughter) “sister”. Especially when she got angry with her. It always made me uncomfortable…the menacing tone she used, and the scared look on my niece’s face whenever her mother snapped, ‘you’d better mind your manners, sister.’
Could be why my niece flew the coop as soon as she turned 18, and why that woman is my EX-sister -in-law.

You know, watching the very scary Stepford Governor on the news shows, I see that she is a megalomaniac. She is completely unbowed by anything that does not serve her agenda. She blithely ignores a Legislative inquiry that concludes the violate the states’ ethics laws. She doggedly insists that the taxpayers are going to continue to pay to fly her kids to watch her man race snowmobiles. She is going to go right on cadging invitations for her kids to go to events that have no public need for her children to be in attendance and to let the taxpayers pay for it. She has done nothing wrong. She is fearless. If god opens a door, even a crack, she will plow right through it.
She is absolutely fearless.
I think she is the perfect heir to George W. Bush. Watch the Repugs drain Obama’s presidentcy like they did Clinton’s, watch them gear up for 2012 and beyond.
I don’t think McCain ever had a serious shot at winning this year. I think the dark forces behind the Repugs knew that. I think she forced McCain to run with Palin so get her launch started. Nobody thought McCain would win. . .

Did anyone notice in the Greta interview that when Greta referred to an “anonymous source” that insisted the stories about Palin were NOT true, that she was an absolute angel, she was not a diva, and all she ever asked for was a diet soda – – Palin had no objections to responding to that “anonymous source” – where was her defensive stance from a few days before where she was saying she would not respond to “anonymous sources”, that they were “mean-spirited cowards” spreading lies about her.
If she refuses to comment on anonymous sources, shouldn’t that be across the board? Shouldn’t she have told Greta that she does not respond if the person does not give their name?
Not if the “anonymous source” is saying nice things about her, I guess.
