Author of TheoPalinism on KUDO Today!

6 11 2008

Leah Burton, author of the new book TheoPalinism will be on CC’s show on KUDO today. Should be good!

For the live feed, click HERE.

Burton writes from a unique perspective of being a multi-generational Alaskan who has worked as a lobbyist in Alaska for Family and Children’s Rights, lending her a distinctive view on this debacle.

With an irreverent wink, wink, nod, nod….”Say it ain’t so Joe! Aw gosh – you betcha! Guys and gals!” …and all the other folksy disrespectful colloquialisms Sarah Palin has thrown around as she crossed America on the 2008 presidential campaign trail, insulting all but the fanatics she mobilized…she and her followers have blundered and failed.

The Palin Factor inspired this author to put pen to paper and illuminate just a sampling of the ideologies behind Sarah Palin’s unbelievable rise to the republican ticket as their anointed selection for vice president.

TheoPalinism is ground swell movement that has insidious roots in America and it has taken the
F
undamentalist Religious Right Evangelical Extremist Charismatics (FRREECs) (NOT to be confused with Christians!) over 30 years to infiltrate the Republican Party and find their “Poster Girl”.

The book also includes a chapter contributed by Burton’s father who is a 35 year veteran of the Alaska State Troopers and a retired Commissioner of Public Safety – twice – for the State of Alaska. Commissioner Burton speaks to the real issues embroiled in Troopergate in his chapter that cites the lack of pursuit through proper channels and processes where a complaint such as the Palin family purports to have had with the governor’s brother-in-law, should have been followed.

“The GOP is kind of like organized crime up here,” an insurance agent in Anchorage who knows the Palin family, explained. “It’s corrupt and arrogant. They’re all rich because they do private sweetheart deals with the oil companies, and they can destroy anyone. And they will, if they have to.”

“Once Palin became mayor,” he continued, “She became part of that inner circle.”

akm: It has occurred to me that Alaska, especially Anchorage just isn’t that big population wise. I’m sure your wondrous blog has been brought to the attention of the Palinites. Have you had any strange or negative feedback from Alaska regarding this blog?

I believe you are very, very wise to keep your identity under wraps.

Also, this whole mysteriously low vote count in Alaska is massively troubling. Please keep us informed as to what if anything is being done to assure the vote wasn’t manipulated.

And for the record, I believe Sarah Palin is shockingly intellectually incurious. I believe she has absolutely no interest in learning boring things like the names of countries and continents or mundane things like the basic functions of the American government. I do not however believe for minute she is stupid.

She just ran for the VP of the United States and she has people actually believing she is a legitimate candidate for President in 2012. She isn’t the stupid one.

AKM: Please don’t let her out of your sight! And please watch your back. I don’t trust her or her gang.

AKM – I’m confused…thought you mentioned that Sarah could not appoint herself to take Ted’s place (if he gets elected and then expelled), but I read this in ADN “If Stevens is expelled from the Senate or resigns, can Palin appoint herself to his seat temporarily, pending a special election? Gail Fenumiai, director of Alaska’s Division of Elections, told CNN she believes that’s possible. Slate’s Explainer, though, says no, she can’t, but Palin could resign first and have Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell appoint her. See the ADN article about conflicting Alaska laws regarding appointment here. ”

Is this true? I’m sure if it take some cunning, and conniving, and lying, she could probably manage it.

What’s the scoop?

_______________________

I’m gonna have to disagree with you there, OC. She’s “intellectually incurious” because she lacks intellect. She should have learned that Africa is a continent and that the VP isn’t the head of the Senate back in 9th grade civics. Wasn’t her father a history teacher? She didn’t learn just because she’s “intellectually incurious.” She gets basics wrong for the same reason she got a D in econ101: she’s stupid. People only think she’s smart because she’s not ugly looking and because she’s politically hyperambitious.

Yes, I have to agree that Palin is stupid. I don’t mean that as any sort of partisan slur. I mean that in a strictly factual way. She hasn’t done one smart thing that I’ve been able to see, although, in fairness, I live in the lower 48.

I also believe that Palin is disdainful of knowledge (“anti-intellectual,” dontcha know), and thinks “appearance” is more important than intellect…

sauerkraut aka Road Apple Palin: Her father is a science teacher which is even more shocking that she doesn’t accept evolution.

When I say she is not stupid, I mean she is not stupid in that she has some very saavy political instincts. She made a metorical political rise for someone who to all intents and appearances appears to be intellectually illiterate. There are plenty of ambitious bimbos out there who never made PTA prez let alone gov and VP candidate in a few shorts years.

What I do hope and pray is that most people are now on to her shady little scam. Jon Stewart called her a grifter. I think that is the most fitting description. But I think the Alaskan landscape is littered with those who underestimated Sarah Palin.

And right now with the vote count being so weird, with Palin never ever really coming out against Stevens and with her being in the perfect position to take over his seat in a special election if he does win and is kicked out of the senate, she is once again making some pretty saavy moves for a ‘stupid’ person.

I just found this on the net written by elaine who is ex editor in chief of Ms Magazine

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-10-27/sarah-palins-a-brainiac/1/

Sarah Palin’s a Brainiac
by Elaine Lafferty

Quote
Now by “smart,” I don’t refer to a person who is wily or calculating or nimble in the way of certain talented athletes who we admire but suspect don’t really have serious brains in their skulls. I mean, instead, a mind that is thoughtful, curious, with a discernable pattern of associative thinking and insight. Palin asks questions, and probes linkages and logic that bring to mind a quirky law professor I once had. Palin is more than a “quick study”; I’d heard rumors around the campaign of her photographic memory and, frankly, I watched it in action. She sees. She processes. She questions, and only then, she acts. What is often called her “confidence” is actually a rarity in national politics: I saw a woman who knows exactly who she is.

End quote

to me after the first couple of Paragraphs she sounded like she was trying to convince herself not others.

Watching SWWNBN, I’m not sure that words like smart and stupid are really helpful. Clearly, she has done some very smart things and some very stupid things. I firmly believe that people have different kinds of smarts and different kinds of strategies for learning. I happen to be a verbal, rational and spacial thinker. My brother is a relational, mechanical and spacial thinker. So is my father. My husband is a verbal, rational and emotional thinker. My mother is a musical, emotional and verbal thinker. No mathematical thinkers in my immediate family. (That doesn’t mean that none of us can do math, it just means that we have less talent for it and have to work harder at it. Because we are not intellectually incurious, we admire people who do have those talents and do our best to understand at least the theory behind physics, derivatives and other economic models.)

I do agree, as others have said, that SWWNBN is intellectually incurious. She has been able to skate along on the few talents she does have, and lucky for her, they are formidable ones.

Randy Scheunemann (sp), for what it’s worth, has commented that SWWNBN has a photographic memory – making her an extreme visual thinker, perhaps? (Obviously, they should have showed her just a bit more information on those cue-cards). Having a photographic memory doesn’t mean that she understands what she reads, but if someone gives her the information, she looks like a “quick study” – because she can regurgitate.

I think that she is also a “social” thinker. She recognizes social cues and reads people extremely well. That makes it easier for her to find the people whose knowledge and expertise she can then take advantage of to fill the holes in her own learning.

It would not surprise me if she actually has a fairly low level of literacy – we all saw her sounding out words on a couple of occasions — that may be why she took so long to finish college.

I would also suggest that SWWNBN is not a critical thinker, nor does she value critical thinking.

Just sayin’.

You can even include a note for the gift card! She will get the stuffed wolf, a personalized adoption certificate, a photo and a fact sheet which will hopefully mention her aerial hunting program and how awful it is.
So here’s your chance raise money for a good cause and really annoy SP at the same time

One question taken from the Larry King interview of Bill Maher last night:

King: So then you must want Gov. Palin to stay around, comedically.

Maher: I do and she will. I think what people did not understand about Gov. Palin was that she campaigned for that job. She wanted it. She lobbied for it. She’s a very ambitious person. And, of course, she’s a super religious person. So she believes that God chose her for this job. I guess — I guess God had a bad night yesterday, because she didn’t get it.
But, you know, the Lord works mysterious ways, as we know. So maybe he’s saving her for next election or the next after that.
She’s only 44 years old. I mean she could be on the public stage for the next 30 years.

The thing about a “photographic” memory is that it means you can remember things nearly verbatim with little or no repetition. We may have seen evidence of this in the VP debates, where she had been preloaded with a pretty large array of talking points, in a pretty short period of preparation.

Having a “photographic” memory says nothing about whether you understand any of the items you remember, or whether you have any intellectual context to interpret them, or whether you can integrate them with any other items. It’s a useful trait for a politician (think how many of them can remember thousands of faces and identities), but unrelated to other useful traits such as honesty, critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, or the ability to construct a grammatically correct sentence on the fly.

Personally, I’ve always thought a pornographic memory would be more fun.

Hey AKM – this response is off topic. Just writing to say THANK YOU for your blog. It was the first one I looked at in the morning and the last one I visited before going to bed since I found you after Palin was nominated. I sent your blog to friends around the globe, who were likewise impressed. You’ve done an incredible public service with this blog. I’m afraid you’ll need to keep it up in order to deal with the fallout from the Gov comin’ home. Good luck! I think all of us on the “outside” will remain riveted to the saga and your insights.

This is a comment responding to an article in the Salon about “The Journey Ends for McCain” This person has well-stated some of our fears concerning the “fear mongering” and “political attacks” that were expressed from the GOP side against the President Elect Obama

“”All throughout this campaign, John McCain has sought and been labeled a ‘Maverick’, and all the time slinging as much mud and bone breaking anger and hostility.

Now, in his concession speech, he hopes to just walk out of the sewer his campaign created and leave the wild animals and monsters that both he and Sarah Palin created.

I;m deathly afraid that it doesn’t work that way. You see, in the ‘real world’, there are sick people who believe your anti-social lies and machinations. There are people who only get their ‘news’ from Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Just like people that graze through their local McDonalds and Burger King (Dunkin Donuts?) for four and five meals a day, they end up being ignorant and their mind rots. They honestly believe everything that comes across the TeeVee because, well, everyone knows that they can’t say it on the TeeVee if it isn’t true. Same for the radio…

When they see cute and photogenic Sarah Palin clutching her prop son and saying things like ‘Well yah know that Obama just isn’t one of us’ and that he’s ‘scary’ and a ‘terrorist’ and a ‘Muslim’, they eat that stuff up and believe it as gospel.

You just can’t walk back into the darkness after that kind of mean and filthy campaign, especially this one which probably set records for the depth that a political party will mine to in order to potentially keep their opponent from winning. You can’t instigate bedlam and near riots at your political engagements and have people wishing your opponent dead and then when you lose, just walk away. “”

Tessa – I was tempted to send that Defenders of Wildlife wolf to SP but I’m afraid she will throw it in the trash and waste the fund’s money. I always feel guilty when they send me any swag.

SP gave that bone chilling quote at an Ohio fundraiser paralleling Ohio coyote killing as similar to Alaska killing wolves. “There was a big darn controversial bill about it in Alaska but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.”

I think she is going to kill your wolf. Shiver.

Don’t hate me for saying that please. I have decided to give the Defenders some money every other month. I wouldn’t have done that if you hadn’t posted that link. I thank you.

AKM, last night someone suggested that we donate to Defenders of Wildlife as a welcome home to Sarah. Defenders has a stuffed wolf puppy with adoption certificate etc. they send out with a $25.00 donation. Several Mudflatters said they were up for it. There was discussion as to where the stuffed puppies should be sent and I suggested the Legislature as the most effective. Sarah would not be able to hide the fact that they were sent, depending on how many get sent it could create media coverage, the legislature might take some action to stop aerial hunting and Defenders would raise money for their work in Alaska and hopefully, the legislature would see to it that the pups were donated to children.

I got the number for their Action Fund (1.800.425.4632) and would be happy to contact them tomorrow if you like. If everyone is up for it, we could ask them to set up a special donation track for the Mudflats donations and to ship all of the stuffed wolf pups at the same time, hopefully arriving on the opening day of the legislators reconvening. We could decide how to have the adoption certificates filled out and could even ask if they would include a special note.

Let me know if anyone has better suggestions. I am happy to try to organize this if a lot of you are up for it. I must confess though, I am kind of computer illiterate. This is the very first blog I have ever posted on.

A great welcome home gift for Sarah

I got a mailer today from Defenders of Wildlife about their Wildlife Adoption program where for $25.00 you can adopt a wolf (or another animal but I thought wolves were especially apt for Sarah) for $25.00. They will send a little stuffed wolf (I have one) and a certificate of adoption and a blurb about helping to fight the aerial hunting program in Alaska to the person in whose name you are making the gift. Just think if the Palin home in Wasilla was inundated with wolf adoptions! Plus we could raise a lot of money to fight this awful program. Something similar was done much earlier with Planned Parenthood and I think the Wasilla address is posted somewhere – anyone have it handy?

Anyway, I am up for doing it as an individual or as a group. I have supported Defenders for years and will continue to. I think it would be fun to do it as a group. Let me know if you want me to help or to organize or whatever.

RedState is pleased to announce it is engaging in a special project: Operation Leper.

We’re tracking down all the people from the McCain campaign now whispering smears against Governor Palin to Carl Cameron and others. Michelle Malkin has the details.

We intend to constantly remind the base about these people, monitor who they are working for, and, when 2012 rolls around, see which candidates hire them. Naturally then, you’ll see us go to war against those candidates.

It is our expressed intention to make these few people political lepers.

They’ll just have to be stuck at CBS with Katie’s failed ratings.

Initial list:

1. Nicolle Wallace
2. Steve Schmidt
3. Mark McKinnon

I tried to join the forum but didn’t know what I was doing. That is probably where we set this up.

Maybe AKM could do a special thread over a time when we could all see it since we are flung all over the world. (Which has more than one continent.)

We need an AK expert on current laws, pending legislation, who’s who, etc. on not only wolves but also polar bears. The more specific we are, the more knowledgeable we are, the more seriously they will take us.

If we could get Defenders to put it on their website this could go global.

It is possible to be shrewd, ambitious……and stupid. Her academic career has been that of a dunce, so it shouldn’t surprise that she thought Africa was a country.

AKM you are responsible for this coming out, along with all the other stuff about Alaska! Your blog has become “must” reading for all of the pundits and politicos – you are truly the best!

I found you two days after SWWNBN was announced. I had gone to the RnR board at Alaska’s Craigslist looking to see what people in AK were saying about her. I was not very political at the time, and had already decided That One was my guy, but I wanted to know something more about the first female VP candidate. Someone put up a link to your blog, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I lurked for about a week and figured out how to post and stuff, since I have never communicated with others on the tubes, other than thru email and the occassional Slingo chat.

Through your inspirational, informative and insightful writings and the Mudpuppy revolution, I have learned so much about so many things and have become politically involved (bodering on active) for the first time in my life.

It’s been great watching this blog grow and blossom into a wonderful community of fun, interesting and like minded people. As so many have expressed before – this place was a beautiful oasis in a dessert of insanity.

Just thinking the stuffed animals make a bigger statement if there is media coverage. Just an idea, I will keep thinking…

The low vote explanation may be that many Republicans didn’t vote–because, well, it was McCain (and not their favorite Mitt Romney) and there was that convicted felon. Enthusiasm for Palin varied widely.

As far as Obamacrats, I think they voted. The excitement and enthusiasm from the primary election and the party convention remained. However, it was still a pretty small core of supporters compared to the overall population of the state.

Getting a good ground game going in Alaska was hampered when Obama staff pulled abruptly out after the primary and then again after Palin was selected. There were also some rural/urban communication problems within the party and between the party and the Obama staffers.

Alaska still had its enthusiastic Obama base–but the numbers had to be expanded about eight-fold to actually win the election in Alaska. Urban areas had central offices. Rural areas less so. And my observations were that people in our particular rural area were pretty susceptible to the smear and fear E-mails against Obama that were going around–played up a lot by local hard-core Repubs.

I think the final result showed that initial caucus support for Obama was expanded four or five or even six fold in some places within Alaska. Which is really a real good effort for an underfunded minority party in wide-spread, far flung Alaska.

There was very little public discussion about Begich and Berkowitz in our local environment. Stevens and Young are know entities. Begich and Berkowitz less so.

The Real Clear Politics poll (average of several polls) had McCain up 15 points in Alaska right up until the last minute. So that other poll showing a tighter race was not an average and may have misled.

Bush II was in cahoots with the FRREECs (otherwise known as Dark Freaks); they were looking for a candidate. Here’s a good ‘ol boy you’d like to have a beer with+born-again due to drinking= President. Urg.

DFs are found in many locations, especially in the South- and in Colorado Springs (Focus on the Family is the major group). I would like to boot them out of the state, preferably to Siberia, however, CB might be able to see them from her window. Focus was part of the group that encouraged Palin as a VP choice-
Focus has proposed or supported numerous anti-gay, anti-reproductive rights, anti-affirmative action ballot proposals in Colorado, most have gone down in flames. They generally align themselves with like-minded Republicans, and have been unhappy the last two election cycles as there is a small group of wealthy Democrats who have created a powerful organization (committees, funding, recruiting candidates) that has helped elect Democrats in our state, and put money toward beating the DF ballot proposals. Jared Polis is one of the group, and he will be a new Congressman from Colorado-

@Dragon Lady and strangelet-

LOL! Very clever, indeed:)

You are right about a photographic memory; great for remembering faces, names, and cramming for fill-in-the-blank tests. I taught ESL and English for 29 years, and a photographic memory gives one surface comprehension- one can remember and repeat words, phrases, but can’t use them to create a new idea or solve a problem. Photographic memory plus the ability to think critically is awesome-

I think of Sarah Palin as opportunistic and politically savvy; she has used others to teach her the ropes of lobbying, for example, then she gets rid of them to move up to the next level. Combined with a healthy dose of ambition: a black widow spider, perhaps-

She might be compared to an attractive Phyllis Schaffly…female poster child for the Dark Christians.

News Update,..

It was just reported that Ted Stevens won his senate seat with 150% of the vote and garnered 900,000 votes. All votes for democrats were altered to reflect the leader of the corrupt Alaska political machine.

Sarah Palin, being asked about this, said ‘You know how the politics of this greatest and most blessed state of Alaska, and sometimes, boys will be boys. I wouldn’t want to have anyone think I’m a Diva, although I do remember seeing a bunch of people I don’t know working late last night in the ballot counting rooms with the windows covered with newspaper. oddly, the local office depot ran out of erasers. A lot of cars with Washington DC license plates were in the parking lot.’

Ted Stevens was seen eating dinner in a restaurant with 20 of his best alibis..!

Sarah continued “I’m be sure to investigate this mostly odd occurance for which I can’t explain these things, but I’m not very good at math anyway. I’d say let bygones be bygones and let our wonderful and blessed Teddy have his seat. He’s old and I need time to arrange things so I can go back to Washington as a Senator and get out of this hellhole of Wasilla. Opps, I meant wonderful and rustic Wasilla. You mainstream media sure use gotcha questions on me.”

Lana, KY (17:03:14) : I think what people did not understand about Gov. Palin was that she campaigned for that job. She wanted it. She lobbied for it. She’s a very ambitious person. And, of course, she’s a super religious person. So she believes that God chose her for this job.

This is something everyone seems to have forgotten. All of this talk about her brains is irrelevant, if you go back a few weeks and re-read posts, links, and comments about SP’s religion. The Assemblies of God is on the fringe of the far right fundamentalists and teaches that God personally directs everything around her, the earth is 6000 years old, dinosaurs walked the earth with humans, and the goal is to create a theocracy in the United States (and then the world), interpret the Constitution and the bible as “Bible Law” (remember the sound bite where she said “the Constitution preaches…?”).

They believe economics, social policy, etc., should be “Christian” driven. They train their children from a very young age why and how to become warriors at the End of Times (which she believes will come in her lifetime). That means killing everyone who is not a “Christian” (how do they know by just looking?) and preparing Alaska as the refuge for the hundreds of thousands of Christians who will survive.

C’mon…when (1) your religion and (2) your state are the only things that matter – in that order – who cares about things like Africa, truth, or legality in elections. Here’s one of many summaries on her religion you’ll find; there are lots of YouTubes on the missionary training in her church:

Two different comments to make, but to minimize waste in these economic times I will package them into one.

1. It is reported that she didn’t know Africa was a continent and thought it was a single country. She couldn’t name the countries of North America, as in the North American Free Trade Agreement. If that is true, then to the teachers at Wassila High School who allowed her to skate by and receive a diploma, I imagine there are now … a few heads held low.

2. Obama’s kids will be the youngest in the White House since the Kennedys’. They seem to be well mannered, open, and will probably be pleasant to be around. If there is a competition within the Secret Service for selection to their protective detail, I imagine there will be … many hands held high.

1. If the building materials came with a lien, it suggests to me they were probably not bought or ordered through Howdie.

2. The local tradesman who was asked (I think by a reporter) if he’d worked on the then-Mayor’s house and responded, “I don’t remember” ……. I have an answer for him. Leaving aside tract developments where the houses are close together and look pretty much the same ….. take a drive through any small town with anyone in the construction trade and they have a habit of pointing out the houses they built. N’est-ce pas?

But….has Palin been SO politically savvy? It seems to me that politics is about making ‘friends’, not burning bridges. The neo-cons and the Freecs understand the value of alliances, and see the value of Palin as a Candidate…..but does Palin have a Nixonian ability to form coalitions? Judging by her experience with McCain……I think not.

@Dragon Lady-

Here’s a quote from an article in the Denver Post about the group of four:

Republican Tom Tancredo, who is retiring from his 6th Congressional District seat, credited gains to Democratic activists Jared Polis, Pat Stry ker, Rutt Bridges and Tim Gill. The foursome poured millions of dollars into Colorado races, Tancredo said, often through advocacy groups. They targeted vulnerable Republicans. At the same time, he said, they put forward ballot issues that drained Republican resources.

There was another article maybe a month ago that detailed how the organization worked- and it included Republican grousing about it, but everything was legal.

I am so sorry about your living location- unlike trolls, it is almost impossible to throw DFs onto the mudflats and be rid of them. My previous neighborhood had several of them; nice to you until they figure out you aren’t “one of them”, and then they shun you or turn mean.

Just reading over at Huff Post, Nora Ephron has a great article about Bill Kristol. The comments are worth reading, lots of discussion about why they still let him write for the NYT (I guess his contract is up for renewal and may not be) and general discussion about the Obama presidency. Ephron is hilarious in describing what many of us might feel as a sick fascination with Fox News, the neocons, etc.

Last week, before the election, I posted here wondering if all of these political categories matter, and I realize they do matter when people do not speak up to change bad policy that ends up killing other people. Bill Kristol has been an apparatchik, indeed a promoter of, the worst of the Bush adminstration. He then chose Palin for John McCain. I think for the first time, though, his career may truly be in jeopardy, and rightfully so. My husband is a doctor, and if he had been wrong that many times he would have lost his license long ago.

Also discussion about how Obama was smeared as a ‘radical socialist,’ and now Karl Rove (on Fox) is saying he’s simply ‘left of center.’ Yet many say this country is on average ‘right of center.’ Yet Dems have won the popular vote in 4 of the past 5 elections. So it goes…

…so I guess these categories do matter. I haven’t figured it out yet, but then again Bill Kristol hasn’t, either. Nor the Republican party. Hint: you actually have to run the country reasonably well or you will be kicked out of office. If that’s surprising then I don’t know what else to say to the GOP.

[…]

Ack. Once again I’m reminded of my neighbors in AZ. The dirty old man and his subservient little old lady wife. He did that – pray “with” me, without so much as asking my permission. I figured that I was going to be struck by lightning, standing next to a God-offending bigot like that. He was also the patriarchial saved one who figured that I (I have SLE) was just being a hypochondriac and what I didn’t know wouldn’t hurt me… so, one day when I was over at their house visiting with the little old lady, he whipped up some lunch and put onions in it which I’d previously said (most distinctly!) I can’t eat. I got terribly sick, lost about 20 pounds (bringing my 5’9″ down to about 105 lbs at the time) and took almost three months to recuperate. He later told people with a silly little laugh, “oh, don’t feed her any onions, we almost killed her with that. What an oops!”

The utter arrogance of these people is what gets me. I don’t care what someone else believes as long as he/she doesn’t inflict that belief on anybody else. These people inflict theirs right and left and blindly, with no regard whatsoever for their targets’ status as living individuals. To them, everybody else is a tool to form with or material to be formed.

Palin demonstrates that very clearly in her “politics”. Also. Sometimes I wish that bit about people like that getting struck by lightning as a direct reproach from God was reality and not just my fancy.

My daughter was a closer for eight years in CO (she’s out of the business, thank goodness), and here I don’t think you can file a lien on a property unless a bill is past due so many months, and you can show proof you tried to collect. Nothing is done in court about liens, unless the property owner tries to sell- here they are usually ignored until they try to close a sale.

Now in today’s market, action might be taken sooner if it is a contested lien, because it can effect a owner or contractor’s credit rating- my husband the banker does not like to loan $$ to contractors who have liens against them.

well…since our real work is done and we have a new president…I’m not staying up late….but on Wednesday morning I found this “letter to Brother Obama”, written by Alice Walker, who is one of my favorite authors…it’s length, but poignant…so forgive me for the length of the post….you can skip on by if you don’t care to read it…:)

Dear Brother Obama,

You have no idea, really, of how profound this moment is for us. Us being the black people of the Southern United States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and you have studied our history. But seeing you deliver the torch so many others before you carried, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, only to be struck down before igniting the flame of justice and of law, is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay runners before you, North America is a different place. It is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the spirit of Africa and of the Americas. Knowing this, that you would actually appear, someday, was part of our strength. Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary warriors of hope, previously only sung about.

I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on. One gathers that your family is large. We are used to seeing men in the White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the building; we notice their wives and children looking strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead. Nor does your family deserve this fate. One way of thinking about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model real success, which is all that so many people in the world really want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage, or barely manage, but this is because it is not yet clear to them that success is truly an inside job. That it is within the reach of almost everyone.

I would further advise you not to take on other people’s enemies. Most damage that others do to us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely. However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, “hate the sin, but love the sinner.” There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people’s spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led.

A good model of how to “work with the enemy” internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with unjust characterizations, distortions and lies, is that expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that, kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

In Peace and Joy,
Alice Walker

I saw an interview with Bill Maher and he said he combined “religion” and “ridiculous” to get the new word.
_____________
makes sense…he also spoke, in the interview I saw him in, about how he feels himself to be spiritual even though he is not necessarily religious…makes sense…have to make it a point to try & see that documentary as it sounds interesting….

Deb……Great letter by Alice Walker…

Hi all. Sorry I haven’t been on much since the Victory Rally. Have been recovering from weeks and weeks with little sleep, water or food. The Obama Victory Rally was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. Isn’t it great!!! I am going back to bed. Tomorrow I will be feeling well rested. Then all the chores I have been avoiding, and the total mess I made here preparing for Mudstock II. Oh well, it’s all been sssoooo worth it.

I meant just the race for the opening post-tired of that.
I really appreciate all the links, comments, and news that everyone brings to this blog comment site. I have been living and breathing it for two months, didn’t mean to be snarky.

Irish – Religiosity is a puffed up version of faith; very me-centered while pretending to be about Jesus. Do we know anyone like that? You betcha.

These people are so affected it is sickening. Sometimes it’s a search for identity or a sense of belonging or a desire for power. They cloak it in a sense of mission – to save you or the United States or the world.

I have not seen Maher’s movie. I have seen him in such a put-down, superior mood he doesn’t realize he sounds like the flip side of the fundies.

Why can’t they simply say quietly, “I am a devout Christian.”

See? Wasn’t that nice? A still small voice.

That’s ok- and the racing to be first…many have tried to get rid of it, and all have failed:) oh well, one of those quirky things, easier to ignore than waste energy-

@Dragon Lady-
That is so true; I don’t think Jesus went around forcing people to be just like Him, He changed people by example. Dark Christians remind me of the Puritans (or maybe I taught “The Crucible” one too many times).

What I think is weird is that you rarely see her holding Trig, but when she does hold him, it is like a sack of potatoes. She drapes him over her arm facing outward. I’ve never seen her holding him close to her chest and cuddling him or even looking at him. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen her put her hand on or around any of her children in an affectionate manner. What’s up with that? Anybody on here grow up with her or know her personally? I’m wondering if she is affectionate with her family at all.

Wasilla anointing of cellphones. A must see.

Irish – now those people are not guilty of religiosity. These people are the ones would follow Jim Jones. This is a cult. Actually very sad but frightening.

Maher’s comedy Religulous may be too one-note. Comedy can only sustain one joke for so long before it backfires and turns people off.

CO Almost – funny you would say that about the Crucible. I thought of that when Bachmann was on Chris Matthews. Witch trials. McCarthyism. Sarah and her Muthee.

Please make sure to keep up with the Palins. 2 things I’m interested in

1) Show a picture of Bristol at 6-9 months pregnant. I’m still not convinced

2) Show pictures from the Bristol / Levi Johnson wedding.

I don’t believe in either two.

Dragon Lady (19:41:44) :

Ira what an unbelievable story – the guy knows you have lupus – maybe he thought he could pray it away.

I heard one tell a woman with severe crippling arthritis that it was “just her nerves.”

Let us remind ourselves they are guilty of Religiosity. It has little to do with actual faith in God.

That religiosity makes them feel powerful. It’s their only balm for a damaged ego. Or a way of being superior.

Yup. Those neighbors were Assembly of God people, and they were sure that I’d be healed if I let Jesus into my life. THEIR Jesus, of course, as served by the Assemble of God church they went to. Although an Assembly of God church in a different town might have possibly done the job too, but… maybe not exactly.
*Sigh*.
I’m all for letting people have their little fantasies if it makes them feel better about themselves, but I refuse to let myself be used by them for their selfish purpose. Or to stand by and watch them use others. It’s such a sore point with me that I don’t even want their charity – knowing that they only give to earn brownie points for themselves and then boast about how selfless they are in giving [enter precise amount or nature of charity extended] to [enter needy recipient’s name, location, and relationship to the giver] and how weepingly grateful the meek recipient responded to the touch of God.

‘Scuse me while I go barf.

Ayep, it’s a sore point. And it’s one of the things that turned me off of Palin right in the beginning, without even knowing what we all know now. The arrogance, the haughty refusal to see anyone else’s point (or that anyone else might have a point in the first place), the yodeling about how accomplished and competent she is (and you could tell from her syntax and demeanor that she simply wasn’t any such thing), the constant gushing about Alaska’s specialness (true, but hardly of any relevance in a presidential/VP campaign)… she delivered the political version of the born-again-and-I’m-gonna-save-you-too rampage. It made me sick.

The thing is that you can ignore those people if they’re just your neighbors – as long as you don’t eat their food, that is – but when they jump onto the national or even state stage, they’re apt to inflict damage. The bigger the stage, the bigger the potential damage. It’s just not a safe thing to let them run loose.

New post alert…

6 11 2008
Lighthouse (CO)

I’m going to have to go off to bed, but I’m so excited because I just returned home from a Yuma County Democrats post-election pizza party! It was so incredibly uplifting to be with a group of people who are joyously happy about our new president.

My coworkers have really been getting me down this week, and if it weren’t for Mudflats, I would have been a wreck.

It was kind of like our own little Mudstock, because my husband and I are in the southern end of the county, and we don’t know any of these people exceptionally well, but we are all kindred spirits.

It was just a great time, and while we didn’t come up with the acronym FRREEC’s, our discussion was right in line with yours here tonight.
We came up with the idea that some otherwise perfectly normal people have been brainwashed by the religious right. I’ve been pondering it hard ever since the 100% political sermon I heard last Sunday, and I am saddened by it.

But, tonight, I’m all kinds of happy, cause we won and change is coming, and I wish I could stay around and talk, but I really am off to bed.

Happy Thursday, Friday, whatever it is to all of you!

It’s time to begin calling these religious zealots in a more defining manner. Sarah Palin and her ilk are in essence the American Taliban. If you read the writings of these evangelical extremists they are in no way any different in their views than the Taliban in Afghanistan.

I sincerely hope the Republican Party pins their hopes on Sarah Palin in 2012 and beyond. Her and her hateful vengeful followers will put the final stake through the heart of the party and we can finally regain our country without fear that the monster will rise again.

@Crystalwolf

I can never bring myself to read what Malkin writes, because she makes me feel violent. I hate feeling like I really want to hurt someone, and she brings that out in me.

She also by the way…deletes any comments that are contrary to her view. She only allows people who feel the same way she does to post. Very democratic of her…no? She has a real issue with race herself. She feels “less than” I believe…and hence shoves her head as far up white peoples butts as is possible. She had the asian community in an uproar with her book about the Japanese internment in ww2…and feels it would have been an appropriate thing to do to Muslims in america after 9/11. She is married to a rabid right winger as well…and it is rumoured that HE is the actual brains behind her writing.

Okay. Enough. Election is over. Palin is back in Alaska.

Can someone please post a pic of Bristol’s belly. I want to know for once and all if she’s pregnant.

And I want to know whose baby, Trig, is Definitively.

Stop hiding this shiyaaaat. Let it be known. So I can forget about it, please put me out of my gossipy misery, someone, please.

I moved away from Alaska in 1992, and can’t express how joyful I feel to see such spirited discussion. Keep it up! Do not let Palin get under the radar. I predict her own behavior will preclude anyone in the lower 48 considering her as a serious public servant. Too much drama. Too little integrity.

Just wanted to say how much you all have helped my sanity over the months
that we in the Lower 48 [or ‘flatlanders’ or whatever we are] have had to hear and see SP. I am trying to cure myself of addictive reading about her. But as
devoted Defenders of Wildlife member, I wonder whether you should check with them before using their material with her. {if that came up inthe thread already, i apologize]

An alternative I had heard of is to donate money to Planned Parenthood in her ‘honor’, so that PP has the needed donation, and she would get the ‘message’, from the receipt sent to her office.

In spite of the above, I do try to stay thankful for her, SP,not only as another
sentient being, but that she is forcing me to work on my own spiritual development: I get so distraught that I lose my peace of mind, and as Alice
Walker so profoundly wrote above, if is from peace and compassion that
we solve any kind of problem, and from which we can experience joy.
with the receipt going to her business address. If I operate from fear and
anger as she does, she is powerful.

Gee, hi Leah. I think you’re the Leah B. from grade school, etc. /Juneau days.
Hope the book does well.

I don’t see how S.P. could become a member of the Senate. She would be too exposed on C-Span. Too many things would be revealed. She “ain’t” no Senator Clinton.
