Line for Obama Paper at the NY Times Building. Wow.

nyt

This was the scene in front of the NY times Building in NYC at lunch time, people lined up to buy 1 paper each. If you wanted more you had to get back on line. It moved pretty quickly.  At 4:30 on my way
home – the line was about 3 times as long and it was raining, it looked like it was moving a bit slower.

Staten Island Real-Time News

PHOENIX — Sarah Palin left the national stage yesterday, but the controversy over her role on the ticket flared as aides to John McCain disclosed new details about her expensive wardrobe purchases and revealed that a Republican Party lawyer would be dispatched to Alaska to inventory and retrieve the clothes still in her possession.

In an interview with CNN yesterday, Palin denied that there were tensions between the McCain camp and her own. But that is at odds with accounts from aides on both sides. The strained relationship worsened, the aides said, after Palin was recorded talking to a Canadian comedian who pretended to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Campaign staffers said McCain’s top aides were blindsighted by the Sarkozy call, which they said was arranged by Palin’s top foreign policy aide Steve Biegun.

McCain aides said the Palin camp did notify McCain’s senior staff or the State Department of the supposed contact. Outraged, Schmidt organized a conference call immediately. He demanded to know who arranged the call, and questioned why anyone would have agreed to such an unusual request and then fail to clear it with top staff, McCain aides said.

Biegun immediately took responsibility. In an interview yesterday, he said some aides at McCain headquarters were in fact aware of the call, and that it had been on the schedule for “a couple days.”

“I was fooled,” he said last night. “No one’s going to beat me up more than I beat myself up for setting up the governor like that.”

Michelle Obama: a new type of First Lady

That rather sad, muffled noise you hear behind the whoops and cheers of Democrat America is not the sound of defeated neocons mourning the passing of trickle-down economics; it is the sound of sobbing in the Élysée Palace. For Carla Bruni, reigning queen of First Ladies, the game is finally up. Cindy McCain would have been a push-over; even Sarah Palin she could have coped with, sexy specs or otherwise. But in Michelle Obama, Ms Bruni has truly met her match. This is a First Lady like none before.

A close friend of mine has a student in school with Sasha Obama, at the University of Chicago Lab School, adjacent to the beautiful university in Hyde Park, Chicago, a simply wonderful program for students of all types.

I wanted to share with you this sweet letter sent to classmates today:
———————————————-

To the Entire Laboratory Schools Community,

Yesterday, the Laboratory Schools achieved a first in its 112-year
history. A family from our community will soon become residents of
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!

Our Schools are not in the business of taking political positions, and
we respect the differences of opinion that are represented among our
parents and students. This is an essential part of who we are and
consistent with the values practiced by the University of Chicago.

Having said that, we are extremely proud that one of our own has been
elected the President of the United States and that his family, who
have taken such an active part in the Laboratory Schools and the
University, will be in a position to devote their talent, energy, and
good will to the rest of the country and to the world.

Congratulations to President elect, Barack Obama, his wife Michelle,
and daughters Malia and Sasha. A fall basket of flowers adorned with
the best wishes of all of us at the Laboratory Schools has been
delivered to their home.

With pride,

(School Director)

Actually, the responsibility for the prank call lies firmly on the screeners. That is their JOB. Yes, Sarah acted like an idiot, but she was also put into a lose/lose position. I may never defend her again, but that wasn’t her fault. Even if she suspected it were a prank, she also trusted that the screeners to make sure that the caller was who he said he was. What was she supposed to do? Hang up?

I hope she doesn’t sneak into Ted’s Senate seat. Who will raise her children?

Oh, and as an aside, my daughter (who is in the Army) picked her college. (They get college credits for coursework in the Army and the Army picks up the tab for any additional online credits she does) I thought for sure she would pick her dad’s alma mater, the University of Kansas, or mine, The University of Minnesota, but she went all “elitist” and got accepted to The George Washington University in DC. So she is officially working and going to college!

Aussie – now that makes my day. More RNC lawyers in AK to inventory and retrieve clothing.

and the link to the timesonlineuk – that article about Michelle Obama’s style is what I was talking about earlier. That penguin dress was too edgy for her style; she looked so Simply Stunning before as the clothes they mention in the article were the ones I liked also. Hey, she looked great in the J. Crew outfit on Letterman. She can wear something simple and look very elegant.

It is 3:57 AM and I am going to bed!!

PS – I’ve never had shiraz. Tell me what kind I should get. (just not now🙂

This all may have been covered earlier, I have no idea. Found it intersting though…

On Sarah’s outfits…
“According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill.”

“The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.”

One thing I know about the very wealthy, they don’t like spending money, particularly wasteful spending.

I believe the GOP having had enough of the Palin clan, and having used Sarah as much as they could, cancelled her credit cards today and gave her a Greyhound ticket home.

Had the NY Times to delivered to me for years, but switched to the online version a couple of years ago. Promised myself I would buy the hard copy today, but got caught up with other stuff. Kicking myself.

But I’ll get a copy of Time or Newsweek. Must have something to commemorate the glorious day.

Challenge:

today the ‘curmudgeon’ sent US$ 25.- through PayPal
[see the ‘click to contribute’ button on the upper right].

Hope is that we can start a ‘nailin palin’ fund in the care of our trusty [trustee] AKM!

[Suggested possible future option: a 501c3, or PAC on the side, as several have promised funding for impeachment or similar actions… all of which cost $$$ ]

Who else is ‘on board’ for this?

FAR better memorial to ‘YES WE DID’ than US$ 600,- for a copy of NYT!

To be fair, I once had a friend who thought Asia was a country… but she was seventeen at the time and she CERTAINLY wasn’t aiming to be the deputy leader of the free world. My friend would also never go around throwing tantrums and making staffers cry; she’s far too sweet-natured.

Seriously, this is horrifying. Imagine what could have been, if the American people hadn’t been intelligent enough to say ‘Hell, no!’

I hope Mudflats will still be up and running in 2012. I want to know if Palin has the gall to run for President, and if McCain is still alive and healthy. I have serious doubts about both.

@ Aussie Blue Sky Hussein (20:55:44) : [from previous post]

here’s another architect: interested in checking good pix of the ‘house-gate’ details for ‘a slightly industrial’😉 look! … and pix of the details of the arena for comparison! Go, Go, Go ! In any case the plans and specs for the arena are pubic record, if not the ‘house-gate’.

And to those wondering about EU marriage systems:

In Germany [a ‘christian’ country officially] one is married before the equivalent of a JP in a special office in each town/city. A religious / church ‘wedding’ is optional and happens AFTER the state one.

What a funny assortment of dogs they’ve chosen to vote for – none of my favourite breeds represented, and a couple of breeds I’ve never heard of! Labradors all the way!

Yeah, there weren’t lines in SC, but the papers disappeared quickly. (we have a pretty lousy local paper–they don’t sell out of the machines often) I thought I should pick one up, as I headed out to pick up some breakfast before starting work, but the weather was pretty bad. Decided to get it before lunch.
None were left.
