I’ve just totally blown mine. I mean this is a historic election after all!
wheee!!!!!
CNN is indicating that Indiana and Virginia and Penn. cannot yet be called because the BLUE areas have not yet reported. Same with N.C. Oh, My, God, this is nerve wracking!!!
Yes, Indeed!! I smell a landslide……..
I keep running from the computer room to the living room….I need a laptop.
Leftover halloween candy: I’ve got taffy. It’s blue. My tongue is blue. It must be an omen!
Yahoo! CNN has Hagen ahead of Dole (of course it’s early, but who cares) in NC!!
Time for nachos and Fat Tire…
More chocolate.
Woman in active labor voting in Santa Monica, California!!!
Not much of anything happening yet…..except for that cow Dole losing, also
Har Har, Bradley effect, Har har, har har ha!!!!!!
Been reading this site for a few months, and thought I’d drop in to say hi from NJ, an Obama state! What is unnerving to me is that the popular vote is so close, which makes me worry about how the electoral vote will go. And MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has pointed out that so far (8:34 Eastern time) no previous Bush state has turned blue. I’m still optimistic, but …
I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide brought me down
Go Obama. America’s proudest moment is at hand.
What’s corn candy?
“YES WE DID!”
I am actually unable to watch this…too nerve wracking. But if PA has gone ultra blue, I am THRILLED!!! I may start watching in an hour or so. And NO MORE COFFEE!! Blech!
An orange corn shaped candy made of wax and sugar. May have other things, not sure.
Popcorn?
Corn candy or candy corn is like fondant candy in the shape of a corn kernal, with yellow, orange and white stripes.
Florida is looking good so far… Barack is 6% up with 33% reporting.

cnn just called pennsylvania for Obama
CNN projects PA for Obama!!!
Yipeee!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO
CNN Called PENNSYLVANIA!!!!!!!!
Anyone have an update on TX?
CNN decares Pennsylvainia for Obama

Landslide on its way.

You can now also get candy corn with chocolate tips, and other flavors. My hubby loves it, but it’s to much sugar for me.
BBC is showing footage from Grant Park. I swear one of the people in the crowd just waved a sea otter over his head.
Has it come to this, so soon? Is the stress leading me to hallucinate the presence of adorable marine creatures in Chicago?
Just an FYI……there are dozens of mudpuppies over at the chat/forum…

They called NH just two hours after I left the county Democratic office. The Dem office was hopping with people still on the phones— two big screen tvs and one guy in the Republican office across the street. It’s been like that all week.

Maybe the only good thing we can say about the Bush Administration is that he galvanized the electorate to give him a resounding push out the door of history with a big fat raspberry.

It actually hasn’t much flavor – just sweet and a little grainy, like sugar. About the only time you see it is Halloween. It’s almost a joke, ’cause it’s pretty bad. You eat it when you just want a pure sugar rush.

I’m also on my second glass of wine! And I also have to work tomorrow. May go try something sweet and fattening! Hey, Missouri just elected a democratic GOVERNOR…wish I could say the same for Pres.
I worry about info on a landslide. It could make people in the west and midwest think, why vote, since it’s already decided. And THAT could make us lose. Obama has warned against this, over and over.
ok taking a break here during MSNBC commercial
Sosad, where are they calling AZ? CNN has no results on line for them, I thought they were still voting? Have faith!
Here’s to a hungover mudpuppy blog tomorrow from WORK!
I’m proud of my state–They just called it for Kay Hagan against Liddy Dole, who sank to new lows in her campaign ads this season. May NC go to Obama!
I’m so nervous I think I’m going to throw up. Thank goodness for leftover Halloween chocolate! 🙂
Exit polls in Indiana show a substantial lead for Obama.
Not sure that Obama voters will get the “why vote” bug. They were just showing long voting lines in Massachusetts where no one expected McCain to win. In fact, they called MA for Obama just a few minutes later.

Moose’s Tooth growler of beer and some chili, at the ready. Chocolate saved for later, with the gin and tonic…
You all are great! We here in AK are just about ready to faint; nothing happens with our polls for some time, yet.
FYI, three college students from UAS (Univ. of Alaska-Southeast) were working on a project today for CBS News. They had been trying to video people at the Capitol, but no one wanted to talk to them there. Spouse, who knows one of them, stopped to talk to them and sent them on their way to the Obama office. They’d also been driving all around looking for a McCain office, of which there is not a one in our town, too. Anyway, they shott footage at the Obama office (FULL of people calling voters all over the country) and then headed back to the univ. to edit. Apparently they called the CBS folks who were THRILLED that they’d found an Obama office in Alaska! Anyway, their stuff should be on some time tonight on the Dan Rather portion of the coverage I guess.
GO BLUE!
Oops 174 to McCain’s 49. Forgot about the old bugger.
Projecting sucks.
Who’s as excited/jittery as me?

CNN has good analysis so far; projections-
Tom Udall (NM) projected to win- go Udall brothers! And Shaheen in NH over Sununu, more Dem Senators:)
@Orphan Annie–
I was in NW Indiana polling station also and there were tiny tensions from time to time but mostly as you described, an amazing spirit of cooperation and humor. In fact, I was ‘stationed’ near two women who were, it seemed for McCain, but that did not stop us from laughing together.
I hear ya, Crust Scramble!
Sununu defeated – shoot, that’s gonna put a crimp in his presidential plans, isn’t it? 😀

CNN is projecting 55 Dem senators at this point in the night…just the total so far. Not a final expected count by any means.
Boy, I love to see the REpub analysts eating crow.
Sarah Palin, John McCain – can you say President Obama?!!
I’m going to go watch the soaps I recorded today and come back in a few hours. I don’t think anybody really knows ‘jack’ yet. How can they call anything with 5% or less in?
Good news about Tom Udall in NM. Hope that trend holds.
On MSNBC…….possible to reach 60 Dem Senators
That would be the end of ‘Joe the neo-con warmonger’ (Lieberman)
@Michele-
I’m with you; Tim Russet’s expertise and enthusiasm are missed big time.
CO—yay for Udall…that’s part of the reason I am very hopeful for Obama…..CO has been turning from red to blue over the past 24 months!

LOL! You picks yur channels and you picks yur pundits. If you watch a liberal channel, they will interpret and project fairly accurately…leaning to the left. Ditto for conservative.
Of course, the final counts of real votes are what matter, but if the pundits you listen to are experienced, they’re usually very close.
Hoping they’re not stealing this election, but really not feeling landslidey. NO negative vibes though!
FL has a lot of vote left to come in.
GJ -keep up as best you can…just know we’re glad you’re here!
Crust Scramble, this is exactly what I was worried about–poll problems, Diebold machines, all the crap that was pulled in 2000 and 2004–and John McCain looking so damned confident. Well of course I thought of conspiracy. I hope that I’m just being absurd and obsessed.
Weird that Obama seems stronger in NC than VA. They are saying Obama is maybe up 14 points in NC.
The Repubs WILL steal some votes. That is why the Voting Process needs to be the first thing on the docket. Help America Vote Act was really Help A-repub-win Votes Actually.
All you guys out West, keep getting out the vote!!!
FL not going well for Repubs.

I teach at an HBCU, and one of my students said to me yesterday, “I don’t want to burst your bubble, but America isn’t ready for a black president.” I was so incredibly saddened by this young black man who had decided already that we as a country weren’t ready to elect Barack Obama. I have worked for Obama from day one, and we pushed hard to get our students to go to early voting. I want that young man to wake up tomorrow with Obama’s victory ringing out over the land. Every voter is making a statement of hope for the future of this country. We are ready! Go Obama!

Creepy Morning Joe is practically conceding, it is REALLY looking good.

CNN announcing a major announcement right after the commercial!!!!
Maddow predicted McCain win months ago.
whew..commercial (potty) break
Intrade Predictions has Obama at 98!!!! McCain at 1.5!!!!! And they do say follow the money!
Hm, considering Obama including the Pacific states (WA, OR, CA, HI) and IA is less than 15 electoral votes away from 270, he’ll only lose if he drops just about every single state left.
Landslide? Perhaps, but not quite.
Ohio called for Obama! From a Buckeye native – it’s about freaking time!
Yeah! We are going to win this thing….
Yaaay! Ohio sure makes me feel better! Come on Florida!
YES TO OHIO!!!!
Big Pete,
That’s funny..i will be atching for that smile 🙂
Florida is next!!!!! I can feel it….
Big Pete: Rachel is smiling! They just don’t turn the camera on her as much. David Gregory is the camera hog tonight.

Oh your LUCKY daughter! What a historic event to be able to be to attend.
And, we’re eating chicken pizza from Costco tonight, me with a large glass of wine and spouse with apple juice. I figure we’ll break out the bubbly versions later (after my class), maybe at the party.
Off to eat now. I’ll catch up with everyone later!
Checking in. Unavoidable delay.
Take me up to date, do it gently, and please forgive my tardiness? All I can see right now is blue OHIO!!!
Ok, they better not call it before the polls close out here in the west, but they can for sure give a great big heads up…yes we can…
I’m still waiting on CNN–hate to be a fuddy duddy but am super cautious!
Ohio, Florida…looking good!
Well, the two states where McCain-Palin made a huge play both went to Obama.
I’m watching so you don’t have to.
On Fox, Nicolle Wallace (not a bad Republican person) just said “We’re hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.”
Turn out the lights…the party’s over.
NM is second red state to go blue.
GJ in Idaho – I agree…I’m so glad to have found this blog and all the great Mudpuppies! It really helps – especially during the first dark days after Palin was nominated as VP for McSoLame.

Almost no way McCain can get to 270 now.

great… this just in from Alaska Division of Elections via ADN AK Politics blog:
“About 23,000 people have voted early, according to the Division. Of those ballots, about 14,000 will appear in tonight’s numbers. (Generally, if you’re an early voter who cast a ballot before Thursday, you’re vote will likely be included tonight.)”
Not to funny considering some of the local races are already slated to be close… Stevens vs. Begich, Young vs. Berkowitz

@Orphan Annie–would love to compare NWI notes! Very interesting dynamics.
My husband’s birthday is today (someone reported a friend’s birthday) and this is what he wanted! Sadly, he fell ill with a virus but this is something we can celebrate for a long time. The last time a president was elected on his birthday was Reagan, which seemed like a terrible precedent until I connected that that election was also decided around hope and a positive vision for our country.
OOO – can I open the champagne yet???

Big parts of Germany (and the rest of Europe) are following the election. All major TV channels are currently covering the election all night long – and of course approval for Obama is GIGANTIC, like 80-90% all over Europe.
Personally, I followed the election really close, as I work in tourism for a marketing agency representing several US states (UT, CO, NM), regions (FLA Keys, PHX/AZ) and companies here in Germany.
And I would be more than happy to not have to convince people anymore to travel to Bush-country… =)

Indiana just 9,000 difference between McC and Obama. Could it be???? Can Indiana go blue??? 84% in.
I did it…This morning, around 7:15 AM I cast my vote for Obama. I had been weighing between Voting for Obama or voting 3rd Party. I decided that my loathing for McCain mandated that I overcome my concerns and officially join the ranks of the Obamacons. I did my part to make Az too close to call and I hope to high Heavens that we deny McCain his own home.
wow that crowd in Chicago makes takes one’s breath away!
NC – 70% in 50-49 for Obama
FLA – 64% in (I think I read that) 51-48 for Obama

I will really miss checking in daily with the brave Mudflats blogger who I discovered when I was trying to find out who Sarah Palin was after the Rep convention. I’ll also miss all the astute commentary from around the globe. I’ve been really impressed at the level of clear-headed thinking out there, and I’ve alternately learned a lot and been soothed when I learned a lot. It’s been very cool to see how like-minded people have found this little corner of Alaska. You’ve all made this nail-biting, roller coaster fall campaign bearable.
I was delighted to hear Ohio called for Obama a few minutes ago. I was at my local headquarters calling Ohio voters even today. I’ve never been involved before. I disliked calling, but I did it for four days. Now we can all enjoy our evening… and our life! The polls haven’t even closed yet here in California, but we in the west will stonewall any more Republican advance.

Yeah!!!!
My hubby just came back from our polling place, the one that has over 35 pricincts all in the same building and says there is a huge line of first time votes, people that have not yet even registared are lined up at the entrance table. I wish I had given him the camera. I had forgotten you can still registar tonight, even if you never have before. Maybe these people really do want to join in the landslide. North ID or at least Lewiston, ID could go blue. The polls are still open for another hour and everyone in the building by 8 pst can vote no matter how long it takes them to registar and vote. I guess those calls I made yesterday and the day before might have turned some minds. And those that have been watching CNN and MSNBC tonight must be listening to the get out and vote message and have decided to make history with us. Yes, Yes, Yes We Can!

Watching 5 channels at once AND three online “channels”. Interesting how Fox news waits till the last moment to give Obama the electoral votes on some states. BBC is fun to watch. Their funny comments about our voting rituals are a crack up. MSNBC is probably the best for both TV and online.
Keep up the great work. We’ll be checking in with you even after the election. Palin ain’t done yet. She’s in her little corner as we speak handing out “sarah in 2012” stickers…

I think Gloria Borger of CNN said no candidate has gotten over 50% since ’76. Maybe she meant no Democrat has reached that? Can’t recall precisely what she said.
Like I said above, I want over 50%. I want a majority. I want a mandate. I’m greedy that way. Not for me. For the unity of the country. I don’t want anyone to say it wasn’t the will of the people, that it was only the electoral vote that secured the victory.

She’s a lying sack of moose poo. From the moment I heard her speak at the convention, I called her a mocking, sarcastic b!tch. A Republican friend of mine emailed that night to say she cried from the speech. I told her me too, but didn’t tell her it was for different reasons.
When I said I couldn’t keep my food down, she asked if I had a stomach bug. That’s when I told her I couldn’t digest what Palin was saying.
What a horrible, horrible person Palin is. Let her live with the regret of being too negative. She reveled in every booooo she elicited from the crowd. Maybe she was assigned role of attack dog, but she could have gone rogue and refused.

Once Upon a Time in Wasilla
I haven’t shared this story w/ the mudpuppies yet, but this seems like a good time. About 15 years ago, I helped coach a T-Ball team at Bumpus Ballfields in Wasilla, and Track Palin was one of the kids on my team. This was the first year for most of the kids to play on any kind of team; they were kindergarten age, 5-6 years old. They were cute as heck, and our biggest challenge was to get them to stand up, as they were having fun sitting in the outfield and playing in the dirt.
Sarah and Todd introduced themselves, then insisted that we use Track as either the Shortstop or the Firstbaseman (I don’t remember which), as they had been coaching him, wanting him to excel at sports. We decided instead that we would rotate all the kids through all the positions so they could have an equal chance at the game, and learn the different positions. Well, that ticked off Sarah and Todd, and they yanked little Track off our team and signed him up for another one. I remember them saying “That’s fine, go ahead and use this as a ‘learning experience’ for the other kids, but OUR son is going to be on a WINNING team!”
Track went on to play hockey (where he spent an awful lot of time in the penalty box for picking fights and beating up kids w/ his stick). He also played football (where he got kicked off the team for hazing a teammate in the locker room).
I gues the moral of the story is, Sarah probably should have left Track on our team, and maybe even signed up HERSELF. It probabley would have served them both well to have learned to work and play well with others….
Congratulations to all of you who worked so hard. This election was important to the entire world.
From an exit poll story just posted on CNN: A majority of Protestants favored McCain, a majority of Catholics favored Obama (despite the pro-life thing)
AND- thanks to all the Jewish people who lobbied their not-so-dumb elders- the Jewish voters (2% of total) were 78% to 21% pro-Obama.
Yea everybody!

Looks like I’m behind the times. Just heard the good news! Go Obama!
Ok Mud Puppies: Here is Colorado (and even Florida) as announced by MSNBC!!!
Finally — the concession speech from McCain. With tears in his eyes. With “boo’s” from his crowd.
Barack Obama has been declared the President of the United States. It is with great honor and privilege that I return Sarah Palin to the great state of Alaska. Please do with her as you will…
Actually, a very humble and generous speech from Senator McCain.
May the healing begin.
Goodnight Mudpuppies (not goodby!)
Booing Obama at the (tiny) McCain concession. The old white rump won’t die easily, but die it will.
Don’t worry — Sarah will have some ‘splainin’ to do when she gets home.
Jeeze, McShame is giving the best speech of his entire campaign right now — his concession speech. It’s a great speech. He’s trying to calm his people. He’s being really gracious.
Does Sarah have to fly home on Alaska Air, coach? She looks like she really can’t believe that they didn’t win!
Now we all get to do the real work — help Barack rebuild this country from the grassroots up. Just like his grassroots campaign to win the White House. Include everyone, regroup, rebuild. We can do that, too!
So glad McCain hasn’t given those kinds of speeches – it would be a lot closer. That was a great speech, made me almost like him. Sarah, though – no way, no how. Go home and then go live under a rock somewhere – really don’t wish her on Alaska.
Maybe Sarah was thinking while standing there with McCain…”Hey, I want to be on “That Ones” team.
Sorry Sarah, glad you are going home, could not imagine listening to you screech at me for 4 years.
OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bruce Springsteen “We Shall Overcome” on the DVD.
OBAMA HAS THE MANDATE!
THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HOPED AND PRAYED WITH US.
We Shall Overcome
Pete Seeger:
“This song was originally one of two African American Spirituals: I’ll Overcome Some Day or I’ll be All Right. In 1946, several hundred employees of the American Tobacco Company in Charleston, South Carolina were on strike. Lucille Simmons started singing the song on the picket line and changed one important word from ‘I’ to ‘we’. Zilphia Horton learned it when a group of strikers visited the Highland Folk School, the Labor Education Center in Tennessee. She taught it to me and we published it as We Shall Overcome in our songletter, People’s Songs Bulletin. In 1952, I taught it to Guy Carawan and Frank Hamilton. Guy introduced the song to the founding convention of SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) in North Carolina. It swept the country.
Jim Musselman:
“This song has traveled around the world from Birmingham, Alabama to South Africa to Tiananmen Square. Sung from the soul, Bruce sings this song for EVERY PERSON, evoking a sense of hope relevant to human struggle, whether on a large social scale or on a deeply personal level”
Sing it this way today:
We have overcome, we have overcome, we have overcome TODAY…
We are not afraid, we are not afraid, we are not afraid TODAY…
my god……what a moment! I am speechless!
just watched obama’s acceptance speech in grant partk, chicago – i’m so happy i’m crying tears of joy! we all won, even the people who didn’t vote for obama won too – they just don’t know it yet!
Omigod, I LOVE it. I just got an email from Barack, thanking ME personally for my contributions to the campaign–LOL. Well, a lovely email…
I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
We just made history.
And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.
But I want to be very clear about one thing…
All of this happened because of you.
Thank you,
Barack
and then you scroll down…….
……………….
And there’s that RED BUTTON:
PLEASE DONATE.
Somehow this just struck me as wonderfully funny and I have the giggles and I can’t stop.
Must the be champagne. Blush.
Yes we can. Yes we did. Yes we WILL.
