…..er…..oops.  Here’s last night’s Open Thread that didn’t get published.  So consider it a surprise late morning thread! (hopeful smile)  The good news is I actually got 8 hours of sleep, which may prevent similar goofs in the near future!

Before we officially wave goodbye to October, I will share with you the greatest Halloween costume I’ve ever seen. I’ll preface this by saying that my big fear was that I was going to be seeing little Sarah Palins everywhere with red suits and glasses and little beehive hairdos. I braced myself, realizing that letting out a blood-curdling scream in the face of a 7-year old, or hurling fun-sized Snicker bars at her as she fled down the driveway would be inappropriate.

But, back to the greatest costume. It was worn by a boy whom I’d guess to be about 13 years old. He was wearing black and white prison stripes with the words “ConvicTED Felon” on the front.  And the “Ted”  part was in the same font as the Ted Stevens yard signs.  Yes, a whole costume in honor of none other than our very own convicted felon Senator, Ted Stevens!  I have to say, that made my night.

All do now is read, refresh, check another blog, read, refresh, come back here, msnbc on all the time…I am so ready for this election to be over and for Obama to win! Nobody but demos understand the fear/excitement that can coexist in an individual. Secretly, I am so hopeful about changes in the house, senate and of course the White House, but I am afraid to jinx it, so I watch the minutes tick away, and if we don’t have the answer on Tuesday night at a reasonable time, I will throw myself off the deck. It won’t hurt me, but it paints a dramatic picture.

Read a CNN piece on Sarah’s appearance today with Florida senior citizens– the usual scare speech about how Obama’s going to take away your health care, blahblahblah.

What was encouraging, though, was to look at the comments. Almost to a person they expressed exasperation at the McCain/Palin fear mongering. People are fed up with those two, and I think the election results will reflect that.

I am confident in and look forward to an Obama presidency.

I am, however, still a little worried about Prop 8 passing in California, taking away the right that was so recently granted to gay couples to marry. If you have any energy or $$ left, help send this proposition to the dust bin of history. Her ‘stroke of insight’ is incredible. Plus it’s a good introduction to the phenomenal Ted website.

I want every citizen to have the same rights. Every citizen. We are created equal let’s start acting like it and stop trying exclude people because of WHO they are!

On a “Strange but True” note:

At a rally today in Polk City, FL- there were no signs with McCain’s name. None. There are the usual “Country First”, and ones for Putnam for Congress- and very prominently “Florida is Palin Country”…but McGrumpy was not only not there physically, but he just wasn’t there.

Watching the news, seeing people in Florida standing 6 hours in early voting lines, willing to ignore voter suppression intimidation, willing to endure to vote, reinforces this sense of history permeating the campaign. It is this huge collection of small details, including the trick-or-treater who visited your door in a ConvicTED jailhouse costume, coming together in a single picture. Our country does have a history of producing good leaders just when we very much need them. We very much need Obama now.

I don’t think its going to pass. Granted the ads here have been awful, but I see very few “Yes” signs and hundreds of “No” signs. We have 2 very nasty Props here on our Ballot…Prop 8 and Prop 2.

I did something I’ve never done before…I campaigned! I went out this morning – door to door – and talked to people about voting and supporting the Democratic ticket. It was great and made me feel good.
I will be voting on Tues. and had felt that would be enough to make my voice heard, but it felt different going out and doing something extra. I know how important this election is and I am glad I put out the extra effort.

I sure hope that things turn around in this country. It would be nice to feel really proud of the USA again. It really seems like we have lost the principles that we founded this country on, at least at the government level. We need to get respectful people elected. We need to get people in power who not only make good decisions for our country, but also give our young people someone to look up to.

Here’s to a landslide election!!

I gave $100 to NO ON 8 this morning. I gave yesterday to Obama, Al Franken, El Tinklenberg, and Mark Begich. I am officially tapped out.

My only donation regret this year is the $200 I gave to John Edwards before he withdrew and before “the scandal” was known….That was money I’d like to have back and give to the good folks above…

Sorry to say it, but I will happily leave Alaska for Canada in May, with hopes that I never return except for the occasional family get together…

Several years ago I left Alaska full of disgust toward AK voters. Why? BEcause they had voted down virtually every school & park bond and voted to okay some stupid million-dollar “study” of the gas pipeline. So, it was okay, in the eyes of most Alaskans, to let the schools & parks crumble to dust, but gotta spend money studying a pipeline that doesn’t exist! The oil companies had already covered that, and out of their own pockets, it was just plain stupid!

Same sinking feeling this year over Proposition 4. Nothing’s changed here in AK.

I did not come back here because I missed Alaska, I came because BP was repatriating all expats. Within six months of moving here my husband was making plans to go to Calgary. Really, we do not want to be here. I’ve met some wonderful people thanks to the Obama candidacy, but I already had great friends here. More are always welcome, but that’s not enough to keep me here! I still maintain that this gal, born & raised in AK, is a stranger in a strange land.

My mum said just the other day that when she moved here in the sixties the average age was in the twenties (she was not quite that old then). What do you think it is now? I don’t know, but whatever it is, there are too many people here who have entrenched voting beliefs/habits, and whether that’s due to age or upbringing, or a combination of the two, one can only guess. Alaska now is not the Alaska I grew up in!

I am guessing that AK back then was much like the Seward that Martha describes, minus the oil factor (it was too early for that), but lots of folks willing to work hard.

Alaskans imagine that the GOP is the answer to their job problems in relation to fostering oil growth. Bible Spice’s administration has been more hostile to the oil industry than any administration in the history of AK. Thumbing her nose at them over the pipeline deal, cutting off Alaska’s nose to spite its face. And the taxes! Don’t get me started again on what a farce those are! Alaskans have no idea how many hundreds or thousands of jobs Bible Spice has cost this state, and they won’t unless some journo does their job & lays it all out for them! Sadly, until that fine day, Alaskans will continue to be delusional about her and our fight to get her out of our politics will be a tough one.

So, much as I love my fellow Alaskan muddies, I will be happily cavorting to Canada in May, leaving you to soldier on without me. I will regret not being able to be part of the ground forces as the Juneau mansion is stormed by rebels, but will be glad to wave goodbye to all of the idiots, the majority of whom were NOT born here, and came here long after me!

Just so you know — I am not labeling all republicans idiots, just those who blindly vote party lines. My husband & I were registered republicans until after Bible Spice was picked by McPainintheass. I changed my registration the next week, my husband did not, but will be voting for Obama. We know plenty of republicans voting for Obama for the same reasons (Mc is insane & Bible Spice is dangerous), but sadly not enough. Until those religious nutters create their very own special party for their religious craziness or the GOP gives them the big toe, we will NOT vote republican again!

Again — lots of hearts to my fellow Alaskan muddies, but Alaska ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I would not write off the “Marriage Protection” propositions.
The trouble with fighting them off is that people are so very “low information”. They may be so excited about voting for That One that they ignore all the other options on the ballot. Only those who truly have a strong opinion are likely to look for those propositions and check a box: The vicious anti-gay people, and those who have taken the time to educate themselves about the issues. I hope you have lots of people who have taken the time to do the second.
Luckily for us in the “true north” (sorry AK, but we actually go even further north), our courts have upheld the right for anyone to marry the partner of his or her choice. It was a long fight, but it was worth it. It is truly the only way for people to have their rights fully recognized in all arenas of life (property, end of life decisions, estates, insurance benefits etc). It’s crazy to have people who love each other unable to trust that their spousal rights will be respected should the worst happen. And the institution of marriage does still mean something legally. Civil unions and “living common law” are not enough.
Okay, enough with the soapbox…

By the grace of God, a great candidate and a ton of work, we may in fact be able as a nation to sign off from Palinmania on Tuesday. This is a very good thing. I realized the other day that my waking hours for two months have been consumed with making sure she is not the next veep-elect. But here’s the horrid thing: she then goes back to Alaska to terrorize AKM.

I liked my life more before I heard about Sarah Palin. What an awful, horrible, no good woman she is.

I hadn’t ever thought about or heard the true meaning “bullshit”, lol hope it’s okay to post the whole thing, it’s kinda short.

Okay…..just got off the phone with a Obama caller, we chatted a while, we’re both in MO, a tie state. She said she’s only spoke with one big McCain believer so far, all the rest were for our guy! My spouse and I have already voted straight dem. ticket…..and we’re going to see Obama tonight in Springfield! 9 pm cst, will give reports asap. I’m also going to be volunteering.

Another interesting thing she shared was that as a teacher she believes Barack understands education needs and says what other politians won’t say, that it isn’t just the job of the schools, that parents and families have to wake up and take education seriously and value it’s importance, ie getting involved, turning off the tv, reading, discussions.

we’re getting McUcky robo calls every 30 minutes, they’re fairly tame today. No live calls though. I almost didn’t answer this last Obama call, very glad I did we had a great chat.

In Texas where many people come from a history of farming or ranching, we have often been known to holler “Bullshit!” This is because we all know that if you’re going to buy a load of manure to spread on your fields, you really want to make sure the manure comes from cows. Cow manure replenishes the soil and makes things grow. But if you’re not careful, a cagey rancher may substitute a load of bull manure. Bull manure is completely worthless as fertilizer. It has no nutritive value as far as your fields are concerned. So if you paid for cow manure, but you got bull manure instead, you got ripped off! Thus, “Bullshit” is another way, albeit rude, of saying “worthless.” When someone hollers “Bullshit!”, they are accusing someone of ripping them off or lying to them.

Gov. Schwarzenegger believes he can makeover President-elect Obama just in time to reveal a new “pumped up” President Obama at his January Presidential Inauguration.

When asked for a comment, the Obama campaign responded, “Although we appreciate Gov. Schwarzenegger’s concern for Presidential nominee Barack Obama’s scrawny arms and skinny legs, we would rather keep our candidate lean and mean sticking to our cardio workouts and pick-up basketball games than risk the potential dangers of steroid use which include the possibility of a man growing woman breasts and a man suffering shrinkage in penis size. We don’t believe America wants a President that needs to wear a man-zier or one that has to explain shrinkage when he has not been near the water.”

Barbie is like the evil energizer bunny.. Even in what appears to be a monster loss for the dumb and dumber campaign, she keeps trying.. Using every lie and the same tired of crap no one wants to hear. She can’t get off drilling and mining, i guess it’s all she knows. She starts it and the lemmings start the drill baby drill chant and she looks at someone and smiles.. I guess she is so proud of herself.

Then it’s off to talk about children of special needs, not really a topic she knows the slightest thing about. Perhaps if we asked Bristol?? It’s recently occured to me. Maybe she’s taken Trig as hers as a prop, which is pretty clear anyway, but maybe by claiming it’s her kid, she thought she’d get the sympathy vote. But most moms see her as a failure and a careless woman who cares less about her kids. Otherwise, they’d be in Alaska in school.

what I don’t understand is how she can repeat the same lies over and over about obama..! And he’s classy and doesn’t even bother responding.

It’s sort of funny.. whereever she is now, the background crowd almost looks bored.. a few have beeny yawning and just stand there clearly disinterested.

At least, only a few days left before she’s gone forever. And for that, I am grateful. Sorry Alaskans, you get her back. and please never let her leave again!

I could never imagine her in a position that meant i’d have to listen to her for 4 years. Is there any doubt, if the impossible happened and mcfailin won, that she’d not knock off mcgrumpy herself if he didn’t croak in the 1st year?

And like all the other stuff she’s done, she’d say she’s innocent.!

What would be the effect if, as the average of the four most recent statewide polls suggests, Barack Obama carries California by 24 percentage points next week and wins the state by nearly 3 million votes?

That question is consuming partisan candidates and their advisers in the final days of the 2008 campaign.

California Democrats are giddily hoping for an electoral tsunami that will sweep their candidates into office, even those running in districts once thought to be impenetrably Republican.

Meanwhile, state Republicans are hoping that mitigating developments, such as a drop-off in the Democratic vote if the presidential race is decided early or perhaps a trend among younger voters to vote only for president, will limit the collateral political damage of a potential Obama landslide in California.

Perhaps nowhere in the state will the down-ticket effects of the presidential race be more critical than in Ventura County’s 19th Senate District, a tossup race that has become the most expensive campaign in California this fall.

The race pits two former Assembly members: Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson and Republican Tony Strickland……

Ventura County’s 37th Assembly District has become the newest political battleground in California, as the state Democratic Party has poured $284,000 into the race over the past 10 days, and polls on both sides suggest an unexpectedly tight contest is in store on Tuesday.

For the third time in six years, the race pits the same two candidates: incumbent Republican Audra Strickland of Moorpark and Democrat Ferial Masry, a Newbury Park schoolteacher. Strickland won the district by 14 and 15 percentage points in 2004 and 2006, respectively, but voter attitudes have shifted.

As a measure of the growing significance of the campaign, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass of Los Angeles is scheduled to attend a rally for Masry tonight in Camarillo.

“It’s kind of late in the game,” said Republican strategist Tony Quinn, whose company analyzes all legislative and congressional races in the state. “But Barack Obama is probably going to carry that district, and in a big, big landslide anything can happen.”

The district, which includes Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ojai and the southern half of Simi Valley, has long been considered safely Republican. But voter registration has tightened since the last election — the GOP advantage has dropped from 8.4 percentage points to 5.9.

Perhaps more significantly, voters in the district have been exposed to a barrage of advertising this fall attacking Strickland’s husband, Tony, who is the Republican candidate in the hyper-contested, $10 million campaign in the state Senate district that largely overlays the Assembly district. Audra Strickland succeeded her husband in the Assembly after he was termed out in 2004.

Ventura County Republican Party Chairman Mike Osborn said he believes the Democratic Party’s 11th-hour attempt to defeat Audra Strickland is intended as “a twofer,” directed as much at Tony as at Audra.

Indeed, the state Democratic Party’s most recent mailer in the Assembly district refers not directly to the assemblywoman, but rather “the Stricklands” and includes testimonials from voters whose criticisms lump husband and wife together.

Masry is a Saudi Arabian immigrant who received international attention when she first ran four years ago, proudly praising an American system that allowed her to run for office, while women in her native country are not allowed to drive cars.

I suggest Norway – nice people, good jobs for people with your expertise and nice neighbours too… I sympathise with how you feel – it’s not at all the reason I left the UK, but taking a decision to leave “home” is never an easy one.

On a lighter note… I just got trick or treated by five Swedish kids in scary make-up (no Teds here though). When I politely told them they should have been here yesterday one of them immediately exploded at the others “I told you so, didn’t I, didn’t I?” Halloween is a new innovation here, and I suspect it won’t last long… (All Saints Day is celebrated instead with visitd to graves and candles being lit). Anyway, the kids got biscuits (or cookies!) and toddled off into the cold dark night, nudging each other and muttering “I told you so”.

Oh – and gay marriage here in Sweden isn’t an issue, it’s just accepted. In fact one of this autumn’s most popular Swedish films has been about two married men who end up fostering a 15-year-old boy by mistake (a criminal homophobe). It’s a lovely film, funny, sad and unltimately redeeming. Methinks it would not make it to mainstream cinemas in the US…

Re: Prop 8… there was a very thoughtful and very long letter in our local paper today. I would hope that it just might change a few minds in my area. Since there isn’t a link, I’m including it in its entirety but will use just initials to protect the author’s privacy.

“I have remained largely silent on the issue o Proposition 8, knowing well that my views are in the minority in my community. I have watched “Yes on 8” signs multiply on the sides of roads I drive daily. I have seen teenagers carry “Yes on 8” signs through public schools and young children bring home “Yes on 8” fliers distributed by their private schools.

“I have had moments in which I have been angered beyond reasonby what I see happening in our state. But mostly, I have been saddened by the ease with which we are spreading fear and intolerance. In America in the 21st century, there is no room for this kind of persecution. Equally disturbing to me is that in a time of true crisis in our country, a time when we much rise up and define ourselves as Americans, we have a proposition on the ballot that is fundamentally unconstitutional.

“The mere concept of outlawing marriage for any group of people reminds me of anti-miscegenation laws — laws that declared it illegal for whites to marry individuals of other races, including blacks, Asians and Native Americans. No matter which side of the political party fence you fall on, you must imagine the repercussions of such laws in this day, in this election. It’s positively mind-boggling to think of the progress we have made.

“The foundation for that progress was made when anti-miscegenation laws were declared unconstitutional under the rights bestowed upon citizens in this country by the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment requires, by law of the United States of America, that ‘No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.’ In 1967, this amendment was used to permanently eliminate anti-miscegenation laws in the United States.

I know that this is a difficult issue for many people of strong religious beliefs, but I hope that the above will provide food for thoughtful consideration. I have long argued for the separation of the civil and religious aspects of marriage — that all couples be required first to have a civil ceremony that would confer upon them all the legal and economic rights and responsibilites of marriage. Then, those couples who wished could also seek the benefits of a religious rite, and the religious organizations could impose whatever conditions they wished — assuming, of course, that those conditions be consistent with their religious teachings.

Workin close by for the afternoon. I was sssoooo ready to totally inappropriately scream at the first little SP that came around. But, not 1 child showed up at my door dressed that way. In a croud of kid’s I would say, “Now, there isn’t any Sarah Palins here are there?” Response “No way!, Eeww barf, yucko, she’s weird” It was truely awesome, I love living in Chicago. Lot’s of little; High School musical kids though.

I was somewhat appalled that SP would NOT take her children to a home if it had an Obama sign out front. What a schitzoid. Like I say “she is one craptastic chick”.

So here in north suburbs of Atlanta we did have a pre-teen in a red jacket, glasses, a beehive hairdo and a Sarah Palin nametag at our neighborhood culdesac gathering prior to trick or treating.

My 8 year old son, dressed as Indiana Jones (he looked so cute) told me when we got home that he shot Sarah Palin with his pistol when she wasn’t looking. “Couldn’t you have just used your Indy whip?” I asked. Yikes, I need to work harder on the nonviolent protest message, huh?

The girl dressed as SP was unaware she had been shot in the back, but she did not miss his verbalized distaste for SP. He said that later when he trick or treated at her house that she jokingly told him he did not get any candy.

Just drove by a car with bumper sticker that read-

Sarah Palin is a hero for REAL women. (CAPS were included on sticker)

So I guess that means all us female mudflatters are NOT REAL women…kinda like the REAL America that SP stumped about.

Wanted to share a GREAT voting story from DU:

Report from Gwinnett County Georgia.

Went to vote yesterday. Got in line at 1:30. Cast my vote at 7:15. LOOOOONNNG Line

But it was cool though. Actually it was kinda exciting. It filled my heart to see so many brothers and sisters waiting to vote. My line partners were mixed; Black, Hispanic and White. No one talked politics. We talked and laughed about what folks joke about when you have to wait in a line for six hours. What landmark we would be glad to get to. Looking at the extension of the line since we got on it. Estimating the time it would take us to hit the front door. The thing that came across very strong was that people were excited to be there, no matter what side of the fence they may have been on. As we got closer to the door, my group joined in the laughing at another group who started singing some funny ass spiritual type song. Several Black women and a big ole White dude just having fun and passing time waiting to do their civic duty. Wish I had a video camera because they were having themselves a ball.

There have been a couple of threads here about the supposed lack of involvement of young people in this election. Well, while my report is very local in nature, there were a LOT of young folks in line. I was very happy to see a lot of minorities but was impressed that there were many White kids as well. There were a ton of folks with babies. Young couples and single parents. Babies would cry at the top of their lungs and no one blinked an eye or got annoyed while the parent settled them down. Several people worked the crowd pushing shopping carts filled with water, offering them free to anyone who needed a drink.

When my son and I finally hit the homestretch, an elderly Black couple came to the line and started taking pictures. Didn’t hear the entire conversation that they had with the group in line near them but I heard snippets. Seems their daughter told them that the line to vote was six hours long and they just had to come and see it. I was too young to feel the experience of civil rights era. But just being in line with so many Black folks waiting to vote, especially in a county that is very conservative, was more than a little moving.

So all of you who feel a little anxious, take a deep breath. I think people are hearing the message of our party and are inspired. Let the chips fall where they may but I think people are waking up.

Now I gotta go have a drink

That being said, I am thankful that McCain didn’t pick her sooner, because she has learned very quickly. If she was denied permanent residency, why did the republicans in power let her back in? She’s been in and out of the country several times. I think it just shows that the Dept of Homland Security isn’t doing its job–that airport security is letting people through without proper checks, that customs hasn’t gotten it right.
It’s not Obama’s fault she’s here, it’s the fault of the republican administration that hasn’t been able to secure our borders in the least.

Oh, and if she isn’t bilking the system, I don’t care that she’s here, anyway. Perhaps she can become Joe McCain’s nanny. He obviously needs one.

1. Where were all the trick or treaters? Our streets were empty. Is it because of deported illegal residents since last year? No money for costumes? The religious right killing Halloween? Nobody has a clue here.

2. Among my few trick or treaters, 70% of the children greeted my Obama sign with glee, chanting Obama! Obama! Obama! And only one father said, “No you can’t go up to THAT house.” I heard him and replied gently, “No worries. To hell with the affiliation – it’s the selfish actions and hubris at the root of it all that bothers me. What a horrible role model TS has become – even worse since his convictions. I started out by crying, disbelieving… now I’m really mad and will stay that way til that old politician gets his due, and not the kind that will give him another story on his chalet. Now I’m hoping for jail time – mean of me, isn’t it? If I had young kids, I would cover their ears whenever he opened his mouth and tell them he is a bad man in a good land. I don’t’ think this is going to turn out well for him, but in the meantime it is causing another great divide in our great land – it’s not like we need any more of those!

Thanks to the excellent doctor I have, she recognized the symptoms and got me on the road to recovery. For anyone living in Harford County, Maryland that doctor is Dr. Claudia Kroker 410-671-0017. She’s saved my life twice for medical problems I didn’t realize I had. She is what a doctor should be.

I’ve long since gotten to the age where I realize that home is where you make it. The UK was/is the home of my heart, the friendships that I made there were based on shared core values, similarities of temperament/humor/etc., NOT because I worked with them, lived in the same state, our kids went to school together, etc… We had hardly any American friends while in the UK. The oil industry is seriously skewed toward the bible-belt folk. We liked it that way (the few American friends, that is, as the choices were limited — bible crazy was the predominant theme!). When we left the UK the friends that I had made there, from all corners of the world, were in tears, as was I, and I am not a big one for tears, not a single one shed when I left AK! When we would fly into our local airport in the UK from a trip I would always think “I’m home!” — it had been many many years since I flew into Anchorage following a trip away with anything other than a feeling of dread &/or despair.

Alaska will only get rid of the crazies when the PFD disappears and personal income tax is instated. Then the wheat will be separated from the chaff, it will be the people who love Alaska who stay, and the rest will look for greener pastures. I am happy wherever my husband and daughters are, even in this crazy state, but I am not emotionally attached to Alaska. We are just as able to enjoy our camping/kayaking/hiking/etc in other states as in Alaska.

That said, though, I will say to anyone considering a trip to Alaska, Halibut Cove, reached by boat/ferry from Homer, has a special place in our hearts and will always be missed by us, as will a few camping spots scattered around AK… So go to Halibut Cove!!!!!!!

We’ve got our plan laid out — Calgary, hoping back to the UK after that, then maybe South America, followed by retiring to a big piece of land in the mountains of New Mexico or AZ (provided it doesn’t become too red in the interim). That being the case, thanks for the offers of hospitality in CO & Norway, but we’ve got a non-Alaska plan that we are quite looking forward to!

marti.. my point wasn’t that Trig is defective.. My point was Barbie will use what she percieves as something (yes, something, she is a sociopath and sees nothing as important but her achievements) defective to win sympathy and support.

I am fully in agreement that a DS child is not defective. They can grow and be happy children with patience and care, sadly not something Trig is getting at the moment, just terrifying lights, and screaming people and things he has no way to comprehend or even cry to express his terror.

Did you see her carrying him last night? Over one arm, face down, like she could have cared less. She uses him as a prop. Nothing more or less.

I remember when I was young, singer and “christian” Anita Bryant did all those Florida Orange juice commercials. Then she put out a tv ad (only in Fla? ) telling us thie risk of gay teachers teaching our children in school. Do not let gay people teach in our schools! Even back then, I think so manypeople got angry they pulled those ads.

onedepresseddude, I’m glad to read you’re reaching out to a local friend. We’re here for you. I may not know you, but I care about your pain and I would hate to think you would do something to harm yourself. When there is nothing else, there is always hope. The future is as soon as tomorrow. Hang on.

Marty, is it a chance you really want to take? There are lots of examples (too many) of people who reach out on a blog, who say they’re going to commit suicide (or even homicide), and it’s later learned that they did.

How can you be so cavalier?

We’re all here hoping for a better America with a leader who understands we need to come together. But here you are turning away someone who says they’re depressed. More than a little ironic.

One doesn’t choose to hang themself as a practical option. It’s a two person job, even if one is the one intending to die. You need your hands fully restrained behind your back and someone has to help get a rope around your neck and that second person would almost have to initiate the act. It’s almost impossible for someone, even someone terribly depressed to jump off something voluntarily to hang themselves..

Sorry for my cold clinical response, but it’s a juvenile message to say such a thing and my suspicion is that him and a bunch of buds are laughing at the concern from those posting.

Trust me, If i see a message that I’d buy as a real danger, i’d get involved properly..

thanks for the nice words! I am as mystified as you by TS. WTF is an understatement. What, is he trying to incite action against the government now? He is a delusional old man whose time has passed… Unfortunately Alaskans get all riled up when it comes to their Uncle T, and they are swallowing that bitter brew quite happily. I think only Lousiana (Huey Long) can top AK when it comes to believing that the criminal is a victim as long as the money keeps flowing into their pockets.

That’s why I say NO PFDs!!!!! PERSONAL INCOME TAX!!!!! Weed out those who are “entitled!”

I wish there were a nice lawyer with a little time on their hands who would step up to the plate and sue the state of Alaska on behalf of the rest of the US for the PFD issue. Wouldn’t it just serve these people right if someone said “Hey, Alaska is part of the US, gets our tax dollars, why is it that only Alaskans get a share of this oil money?”

This is often done during times of GOP scandals when GOP politicians are running for election or reelection. They simply don’t mention that they are Republican and some will go out of their way to imply they are Democrat or Independent.

There’s not much pride or honor in being a Republican these days, thanks to the RNC leadership and antics of its politicians, who appear to be almost completely berift of integrity and ethics.

But this is not a new development. We have seen the process unfolding for many, many years. IMO, the road to the GOP’s current collapse in voter confidence started when Ronald Reagan first bent knee to the fundamentalist Christian right. In so doing he created a monster of leviathan proportions.

The likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and now James Dobson have been allowed to take control of the party, and to hold themselves forth as the icons of Republican family and religious values.

All three demagogues completely ignore the teaching of Jesus Christ in their greedy avarice and greed, grasping for power at any cost.

I see Sarah Palin as the pentultimate political manifestation of the preacher character (portrayed by Andy Griffith in the movie “A Face in the Crowd”) Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes.

The GOP has consistently marched itself to the precipice at which it now finds itself. They can try to blame it on anything they want, but the truth is clear: led by one of their heroes, Ronald Reagan, they sold their party’s legacy on the cheap, and the fundamentalist demagogues they sold it to have nearly destroyed it.

As Frank Zappa says in “Brown Shoes”— “Do you love it? Do you hate it? There is is, the way you made it.”

Marty, I don’t care what your profession is or what your experience is with suicide, you don’t know what you’re talking about, despite your protests to the contrary.

I know an 22-year-old who hung himself last year. All by himself. Alone. So don’t say it can’t be done. And he called his girlfriend before he did it to tell her how depressed he was. She made him promise not to do anything until she got to him. A mere 1/2 hour later, he was gone.

If a few kind words are too much for you to give, and if you can live with that, then live with it. I’ll take the chance of offering comfort to someone who might not be suicidal.

onedepresseddude, we’re here. Like I said in an earlier post, come back if you’re friend doesn’t give you what you need. Let us know what state you’re in and one of us will find a resource for you. We’re a resourceful group! And a hopeful group and I have hope for you, even if you don’t have it for yourself.

This is going to sound inane, but take a shower. Physically and figuratively, it helps. Make that your first step. Please.

Just some food for thought to all of you Stevens lovers up there in Alaska——OJ Simpson was convicted of all counts just as your uncle Ted was and they carted him away to jail as they should have. Guilt is not contingent upon the out come of an appeal. The jury found him gulity period. You have a convicted felon operating as a representive of your state which makes your state look like a criminal enterprise. If this is acceptable to you so be it, but the rest of the country will always believe you have a corrupt state rotten to the core as along as you accept him as your Senator, shame on ya.

She was given enough clues early on in the conversation that–had she even a passing knowledge of France’s politics and its politicians–she should have been able to easily realized it was a gag.

This is a great example of why Sarah Palin would be extremely dangerous in any kind of national leadership position. Often it is one’s own knowledge base that allows us to tell when another person is attempting fraud. It would be very dangerous of a VP or POTUS to not be able to tell she was being lied to.

Saw something on MSNBC today about some shop owner who made a hunting bow in honor or Palin. He so admires her keeping Trig. And what better way to celebrate that than to make a weapon that kills innocent animals for man’s folly?

Saw a McCain speech. Fired up. “Fight…” Is there anything more hawkish and more representative of who he is than to implore his audience to fight? And while they boo, he laughs. Never admonishes the crowd to refrain from jeers. He loves it. He’s really a very vile man and Palin is his perfect running mate. As Palin herself might say, a match made in heaven.

I canvassed for voters today in Venice for Obama with my eight-year-old daughter. The campaign staff were super and enthusiastic. This was my first time ever doing anything like this (I’m 40). She and I had a great time! Most of the people we talked to have already voted. We got our own yard signs finally and stickers, posters, etc. We are proud of ourselves and had a lot of fun🙂 I also worked over my neighbors, their friends, and some folks at a garage sale.

I am buying pie for Tuesday night’s festivities! I anticipate my first good night’s sleep will be Wednesday🙂
