Bedtime in Alaska – Open Thread

Goodnight all.

A quick reminder about vanishing posts. If your post does not appear, it means it’s in the spam queue and it will be rescued, I promise! Please don’t keep repeat posting, otherwise all your comments end up in there. At that point I have 2 choices:

1) Liberate all your comments, including repeat posts and questions about why your post is not posting. This can be annoying to have to read through by everyone, once I’ve freed them.

2) OR I can liberate only one post….but then I have to spam all the other ones, making it very likely that your future posts will also be spammed. After all I just had to spam 8 or 9 posts from one person, so it assumes you are very very bad, which you aren’t. 😦

The best thing to do is read the FAQ section about vanishing links, which will have some helpful tips for you. And remember not to repeat post or ask why your post isn’t showing up, if your message doesn’t show up.

You can email me, or see if Snoskred is in the Forum, or chat over there for a while, or just sit tight, knowing that it will all be well soon.

Sounds like Chicago area Mudflatters are talking about Mudstock II! If you’re in the area, check the comments from the last post…or maybe a Chicago Mudflatter will post details on this thread.

See you tomorrow!

from the Las Vegas Sun:

Democrats continue early voting surge

After five days of early voting, Democrats are continuing to take a large lead in turnout throughout Clark County.

Meanwhile Republicans have a slight edge in mail-in votes for the Nov. 4 election.

The latest numbers from the county’s election department show that as of Wednesday, 113,201 people had cast ballots at early voting polls. The breakdown is 64,851 Democrats (57 percent), 30,192 Republicans (27 percent) and 18,158 (16 percent) voters with no affiliation

The election department reported 22,730 people have mailed in their votes: 10,447 Republicans (46 percent), 9,514 Democrats (42 percent) and 2,769 with no party affiliation (12 percent).

Good night, and thanks for everything, AKM.
Up for awhile here on the red island. Just have to visit! Gotta catch up on all those Alaska posts! But I do hope to go back for another snooze – after all, it is Saturday!
And even though I’m stuck in Red, it sure is amazing and wonderful to see the number of Obama-Biden bumperstickers and yard signs that we have, even in the literalist-believer Bible belt.
After all, I remember elections where you didn’t see a single sign for any Democratic candidates.
Kind of like the possibility of an Alaskan landslide – I think we may have one here in SC. No question JM will win, but it will be by a much narrower margin. You might have to be in SC to regard it as a ‘landslide.’ But the possibility of such a ‘landslide’ means so much to us independent voters and democratic voters here, since we have to live with all these straight-ticket repubs and the huge evangelical vote all the time.
Go Obama-Biden!

The ADN pipes up:

Palin blessing echoed extreme strategy

“Extreme Christian Nationalists not only believe that the United States was founded as a Christian nation but that its institutions should be run entirely by fundamentalist or evangelical Christians. They believe they have a mandate to purge our institutions of “humanists” who believe that humans are in control of their own destiny, progressive Christians and non-Christians. They believe there are seven areas of society that must be controlled, the so-called Seven Mountains Strategy: church, family, education, government and law, media, arts and entertainment and business.”

Just when you think Palin cannot be any weirder: Sarah Palin Linked to Second “Witch Hunter” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-wilson/sarah-palin-linked-to-sec_b_137532.html

The article reads like a spooky Halloween story, complete with prayer warriors invoking g*d to kill, sicken or just generally hurt non-members of her sect. “This ‘prayer warfare’ network considers Catholics, and everyone else who does not share its particular interpretation of Christianity to be under demon influence and damned to hell; it hunts witches and is mapping out “demon influences” in cities and towns across America.”

Come to think of it, McCain hasn’t been looking well lately.

from my hometown in CT:

The Color Of Money Is What Counts Now

“John McCain has Joe the Plumber. I now have Darla — not her real name — the Dry Cleaner.

For the regulars here, my dry cleaning lady became an e-mail phenom after I wrote a recent column about her halting revelations to me in discussing Barack Obama. She was concerned that an Obama presidency could spur a Black Nation — one in which African Americans would gain control of the country. Black men, in particular, would feel emboldened and possibly seek retribution from whites for the country’s racist past.

The dry cleaner was spittin’ some eye-opening stuff. Several of you e-mailed me to reflect on a relative or colleague who shared the dry cleaner’s perspective. Others were glad that I was able to put out there what many African Americans have suspected was at the root of that “I just don’t know enough about him” resistance to Obama.

Lani, as a committed Catholic it always makes me chuckle that someone can live a completely amoral life, ‘find Jesus’ in jail – and then tell me I’m not a Christian because I wasn’t dunked in a bathtub somewhere. Go figure.

I don’t understand why more news media are not getting the word out about Palin – in her interview she admits that people who blow up clinics are NOT terrorists! And the whole thing of God given right to violence is just to horrifying to think about.

Even if the networks don’t want to touch religion – her lack of education is obvious and should be pointed out more. In her policy speech for special needs she wants to cut the science projects that actually helped to find the protein that causes autism!!!!!! Study of fruit flies is one of the backbones for research for many health concerns.

I just get so frustrated when this kind of information gets buried and yet everyone wants to talk about her $150,000 clothes and $22,000 in makeup (in just 2 weeks) – sure that is all very appalling but not nearly as important as her support of violence and her lack of intelligence when it comes to policy or science.

I’m so glad I have blogs like this one to stop by and get a good dose of sanity.

“Biden’s effort predicted _ even the unpredictable”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden’s performance as Barack Obama’s running mate has been pretty predictable — even when unpredictable.

The biggest knock against Biden during discussions on whether he would make a good vice presidential nominee was that his mouth tends to get him in trouble. And it has, with Biden recently raising the expectation that Obama would be tested by an international crisis soon after taking office — a comment that Obama said showed Biden’s penchant for “rhetorical flourish.”

Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin have used that comment to suggest that Obama is not prepared to deal with such a problem. That’s not what Biden said — he argued Obama would persevere because he’s “got steel in his spine.” But McCain is using a recording of Biden’s comments in a new ad against Obama.

“We’re going to have an international crisis … to test the mettle of this guy,” Biden says in a recording replayed in the ad over grainy images of a woman crying and people rioting in the streets of a foreign land. “I guarantee you it’s going to happen.”

An announcer interjects, “It doesn’t have to happen. Vote McCain.”

But despite the occasional gaffe that’s been highlighted, the Obama team says Biden has been a steady asset.

“Yes, there are those moments when you say, ‘Wow, I wonder why he said that,'” said Obama adviser David Axelrod, but he added, “Even in the cold hard world of politics, you just look at his numbers. The American people have really embraced him and he’s got a very favorable standing.

“So I don’t care if every once in a while there’s one of those cases where you sort of say, ‘Geez, I’m not sure I would have said it just that way.’ I don’t care about that because at the end of the day, I think the upside is so great,” Axelrod said in a telephone interview.

Since the party conventions, Biden’s favorable ratings have steadily gone up. An Associated Press-Yahoo News poll conducted earlier this month found both Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin were viewed favorably by 48 percent of respondents, but his figure was up from 37 percent the previous month, while hers remained about the same as her earlier 47 percent. And her unfavorables were rising, from 28 percent to 39 percent, while his went from 30 percent to 33 percent.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll of voters in the swing state of Ohio this month found nearly four in 10 moderates were less apt to vote for McCain because of the Palin pick, double the proportion drawn to him as a result of her nomination. Biden attracted three times as many moderates to Obama as he pushed away.

Biden completed his 170th interview Friday night in the two months since becoming a vice presidential candidate, according to a tally by his staff. He’s been a constant McCain critic and has been on television at critical moments, such as going on all the networks after every presidential debate while Palin was declining to do interviews.

Biden has been the least covered by the national media of any of the four nominees, but he’s generating steady local coverage in key markets. The campaign has dispatched him to areas filled with working-class voters and his fellow Catholics, hoping he can make a connection where maybe Obama can’t.

“He’s going to a lot of places where Barack certainly didn’t do as well in the primaries and talking to folks and bringing them over,” said 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, who is close to both men on the ticket. He said he encouraged Obama to pick Biden because of his experience in legislation, foreign affairs and politics.

Axelrod said Biden is deeply involved in campaign discussions, and often will share what he’s seeing on the trail and how issues are playing. Unlike the Republican ticket that campaigns together frequently, Biden and Obama have mostly kept separate schedules. One aide said they send e-mail messages frequently on the BlackBerrys they carry on their hips, and talk on the phone about once a day on average.

Biden has said if the Democratic ticket is elected, he would like to use his 36 years of experience in the Senate to carry out a President Obama’s agenda on Capitol Hill.

He’s respected by lawmakers in both parties for a breadth of knowledge developed over decades of service that have included leadership of the Judiciary and Foreign Relations committees.

It’s an insider experience that Obama lacks, and a role that has not been Vice President Dick Cheney’s focus. Cheney has been a forceful hand helping guide the Bush administration from the confines of the White House, while venturing to Capitol Hill occasionally to cast a tie-breaking vote or meet with lawmakers from his own party.

“The advantage you have here is you’ve got in Joe Biden somebody who’s seen a lot of mistakes made in Washington and who himself has led major committees,” Kerry said. “That is an enormous help to any president.”

yeah, yeah…Sparky “heart” Joe🙂

Lady Rose, she is pandering to her own – they are not educated in any significant way, nor are they intelligent. They would have no idea of the value and prominence of fruit flies in human biological research.

As far as I recollect, fruit flies are used because they breed so quickly that you can track generations very quickly, which is handy if you’re looking for genetic mutations.

One of the beauties of Mudflats is that someone here will know the whole story of fruit flies.😉

But if any Mudpuppy is interested, AP just released a nice article on the strengh and benefits Joe Biden brings to Obama, and how much Joe has accomplished (included 170 interviews as of Friday, since becoming VP candidate).

It’s titled: Joe Biden’s effort predicted…even the unpredictable

Yes indeed. Evangelical Christians are a separate subspecies that is unintelligent and simply cannot be educated. Their religious extremism is in no way similar to the way the rest of us have faith in equally unprovable ideas and tenets. In fact evangelicals are so stupid there’s no way that a new generation of them could be turning away from the focus on abortion and become more concerned with poverty and other issues. Why am I even discussing these kind of people? They’re so crazy we couldn’t possibly try to understand them or respect them as human beings.

25 10 2008

That’s a response to APMH, by the way. Most people, as a matter of fact, probably do not understand the value of fruit fly research. Call me stupid.

Early-voting trends appear to favor Barack Obama

In North Carolina, which hasn’t gone for a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter in 1976, almost a million people have voted, and Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2 to 1.

“Historically, we’ve seen that early voters are older, they tend to be white, have higher incomes and are better educated,” said Paul Gronke, director of the Early Voting Information Center at Reed College in Portland, Ore.
“And that group of people tends to trend Republican. Now we have a mirror image in this campaign.”

Iowa voted for President Bush in 2004, but the Obama campaign hopes to win the state. Early voting figures bode well for that. About 51% of the 277,909 Iowans who’ve voted early are Democrats, compared with 28% Republicans.

Florida, a huge prize with 27 electoral votes, offers a mixed picture. More than 1.5 million Floridians have already cast ballots. Democrats hold a tiny advantage: 42.7% to 42.6%. Republicans now hold a 16-point edge in absentee balloting, whereas Democrats have a 23-point lead among people showing up at the voting booths.

In New Mexico — another state that voted for Bush in 2004 — Democrats account for 69% of the 55,743 people who’ve voted early; Republicans, 31%. Those figures do not include absentee ballots, which state officials said were not available.

Nevada’s two largest counties, Clark and Washoe, favor the Democrats in early voting. Nearly 172,000 people have voted, and the turnout has been 56% Democratic and 28% Republican.

A Gallup poll released Friday found that, of the people who’ve voted early nationwide, roughly half have supported McCain, the other half Obama.

@Aussie Puck Mule Hussein (01:58:58) – Great article! I wasn’t expecting Darla to change her vote, from the way the article started.

@eajphd Molten Contra Palin (previous thread) Thanks for your post about education, and for pointing out the ‘code speak’ going on by the repubs – a code that hides the effort of the evangelical right to destroy the public system (my belief). I’m so worried about the fact that the MSM doesn’t seem able to pick up on the Repub. code, or if they do, they can’t methodically expose it. They haven’t noticed that now the candidates are even avoiding the word voucher.
Here in SC, education has been attacked by out of state organizations selling the idea of vouchers by appealing to the Baptist vote – one is ‘Putting Parents First.’ In 2006 we nearly had our state superintendent of education position won by one of these far-right evangelical woman candidates that seem to be popping up everywhere. She almost won because so many people vote straight ticket republican. I still can’t believe we got Jim Rex – the state of SC really lucked out. He won by a margin of 455 votes of more than a million cast, making history as the closest election for statewide office ever recorded.

The transfer of the Palin Curse !

Well, the Flyers finally won a game, beating the NJ Devils last night, 6-3.

They can thank the St. Louis Blues for their victory.

The Blues invited Sarah Palin to drop the first puck at their game against the LA Kings.

BAD idea !

At that moment, the curse transferred from Philadelphia to St. Louis.

It started when the Blues goalie came onto the ice and tripped over Sarah’s red carpet, and fell to the ice. He only played one period before leaving with a hip flexor injury that may keep him out for several games.

BTW, the game eneded up in a 4-0 win for Los Angeles !!

This morning I was watching last night’s Larry King with Chris Hitchins and Scott McClellan defending Obama with two more scaries Terry Holt and Lars Larson defending McCain’s support of the “surge” in Iraq (it’s all they have!) and bringing up Palin’s mocking of fruit flies. I never heard what she said (link anybody?) Larry very intelligently brought up the fact that fruit flies were important in discoveries concerning autism and was shocked they she obviously didn’t know that. Hitchens made an off-camera remark that why should she know that? She doesn’t believe in genetics! Brilliant.

Joe Lieberman on Sarah Palin: Training still needed

Here’s the latest from the “with friends like these …” department:

Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, on a conference call with reporters from his home state, was asked if he believed Sarah Palin would be ready from day one to be president.

The “day one” phrase made the question a bit of a set-up, but Lieberman bit (eagerly). He replied, “Thank God, she’s not gonna have to be president from day one, because (John) McCain’s going to be alive and well.”

The Democrat-turned-independent-turned McCain booster quickly added that “if, God forbid,” Palin at some point would have to assume the top job, “she’ll be ready. She’s had executive experience. She’s smart. And she will have had on-the-job training.”

I don’t agree that it’s ok for them to vote to prevent everyone else from choosing excellent public education over home school or private schooling. They are being used by the politicians. My ex family in law were of Southern Baptist stock. I wasn’t. My boys are not. One son was asked not to come back to their summer camp, because he kept asking how they could not believe in dinos.

As my ex mother in law got older, she worried about not seeing my sons in heaven. This was a real concern for her. She wanted me to re-baptize my sons in “the bathtub” but since they were both over the age of 18, I told her it was their decision, not mine. But since both of them were good people who tried not to hurt people, but to help, I would not push them to do anything.

I know they are voting for the Republican ticket. It is what is asked by their preacher.

I wonder what would happen if we actually started taxing the churches who told people how to vote.

Hard to believe that Evangelicals make up only 7% of the ‘Christian’ born again population. They really scare me. They’re frauds – they don’t represent the love and forgiveness of God by way of Christ. They’re the reincarnation of the Spanish Inquisition. God forbid that McCain/Palin/Dobson win this election.

My sister has a bumper sticker on her car which says, “I believe in the separation of Church and hate.” Of course, she’s also my sister who’s a Palin supporter. Talk about an oxymoron (emphasis on the moron).

@WV

maybe I can illuminate the “how do they relate” to the rich ticket mystery?
I used to work for a guy with whom I had the most interesting religious discussions, on a regular basis. He had not been religious until adulthood, then converted to some fundamentalist group (no denomination I’d ever heard of) and was a real cheerleader for it. Amazingly open-minded about discussion, but he was INTO those beliefs.
(Did you know the Smurfs were demonic? But I digress)
We were both working with disabled folks and making no money and I brought up to him how his preacher was wearing $600 suits and driving a big, expensive car and didn’t the congregation have a problem with their donations (strict tithers!) going to THAT? No, of course not. God wants us all to be successful monetarily (was that in the Bible?) and they would certainly not begrudge their preacher his wealthy image. His impressiveness reflects on God and the congregation and blah, blah, blah.
It’s very convenient. You make me rich with your contributions and it’s a reflection of YOUR goodness, so don’t worry about the fact that you’re not making any money. I’m there for you!
I know there are other interpretations, reasons, etc. But a lot of people buy this one!

The Catholics can often be as stubborn about these issues as the Evangelicals are.

I have a sister-in-law who was raised a liberal Dem in California, but converted to Catholicism as an adult. Her church has been telling the congregation they MAY NOT vote for Obama, or risk burning in hell, I guess. So, she is voting for McCain solely on the basis of the abortion issue.

It makes me sad. Even moving beyond the obvious – that pro-life should also mean anti-war, anti-poverty, etc… – don’t these folks stop to think about how deeply our society will be impacted by the election’s outcome, in so many ways that go beyond the pro-life/pro-choice debate?

Dang, Aussie Puck Mule Hussein (04:48:50), I’m 53 – that was a long time ago.
But for us, a lot of it had to do with their fast reproduction. I’m sure Palin would hate to hear that we’re genetically related to the little buggers!

http://nihrecord.od.nih.gov/newsletters/10_03_2000/story05.htm

Here’s part of it.

Yet these tiny red-eyed animals — known to scientists as the species Drosophila melanogaster — are essential workhorses in thousands of biomedical research laboratories around the world. Decades of study have revealed that the tiny insects, which bear little resemblance to people, nevertheless share much of our genetic heritage. Fruit flies possess strikingly similar versions of the genes that promote normal human development and, when altered, contribute to disease.

My mistake, apparently, was in believing that God wanted us to be “spiritually wealthy.” I never got the impression that God was all that into money.
Clearly, I was very WRONG!

It was kind of surreal to have those religious discussions with my boss, but what I just HAVE to say, to illustrate how different it was from what we see today is this: we disagreed on just about EVERYTHING as it related to religion and/or spirituality. However, we had interesting and lively discussions and the reason for that was RESPECT. It was understood that we each accepted that the other had a right to whatever belief and it was enlightening to compare and contrast what we thought. This was over 20 years ago, now, and this man DID admit to one break with his religion: he fully supported giving condoms to ANYone who thought they’d need one to prevent a pregnancy, having seen the dire consequences that result from unwanted babies and to prevent the need for abortions. (We had a situation where a seriously disabled woman was pregnant, had already had one child that she couldn’t care for-also seriously disabled-and that was just the tip of this iceberg. He actually supported her decision to have an abortion as the lesser evil. It was hard for him, but he knew this was best for HER. I was impressed; he could “think outside the church” when the situation required it. Wish this new generation could.)

Puck Mule, you are in the wrong business. Start a church. I have some ideas for the outreach that we can offer, if you’ll let me be the silent partner.

Good morning, world. Catching up with the posts and thinking in the dark dawn about two things. How I can’t use the word “conservative” to disparage the right any more because the Buckleys and the Goldwaters endorse Obama. I must categorize those I disagree with now as the “Christian fundamentalists.” Right now, fiscal conservatism sounds terrific.

And second, the extreme view of women posited by the Republican wacko faction — all hat and no cattle or it’s only what you look like that matters. Ann Coulter, Michelle Bachmann, Cindy McCain, and now Sarah Palin. The right defines a woman by her lipstick, high heels and ability to breed. If you’re good-looking enough, then you’re entitled to have an opinion. If you’re not (Laura Bush) you just hush up and stand by your man.

I believe it will be women, Christians who practice what Christ lived and preached, and smart people (left and right) who will push this election to historic heights. All of these groups have simply had enough of being cornered and raped by the Republican Party and Administration.

“Carville on Joe-the-Plumber

No matter what else you think of James Carville, two things stand out: (1) he has an odd choice in wives and (2) he is very good at one liners. Yesterday he said: “The reason the Republicans found Joe the Plumber was to find someone hanging around a toilet other than Larry Craig.”

ooh that Larry Craig reminds me that nobody in The Church of Puck Mule will ever be caught soliciting men for sex, or buying callgirls or methamphetamine. I give you my solemn promise, Brothers and Sisters in Puck Mule. All of our Mercedes-driving nabobs will be women.😉

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO SPIRITUAL WARFARE, PLEASE PRAY TODAY AND CONTINUALLY THAT ALL SUCH CURSES BE BROKEN AND SATAN’S PLAN FOR AMERICA BE DEFEATED, IN JESUS’ NAME. PRAY AND COVER MCCAIN AND PALIN WITH THE BLOOD OF CHRIST. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO SPIRITUAL WARFARE, IT IS TIME YOU LEARN!!!”

and:

“Bree Keyton went and visited Obama’s tribal people and she found out Obama is 75% Arab and his family are Muslims. Odinga is strill trying to become the President of Kenya. If he does, he will make a law forbidding all public preaching and institute Sharia Law. Bree K. said Odinga has made a pact with satan.

Bree K. also said when Obama visited his tribe in ’06 and as late as Jan. ’08 he went to every elder’s home which has a “shrine” inside to worship the genie and asked for their blessing. She was told Obama and Odinga were both “destined” before they were born to be president/leader of their nation. They say “he is the chosen one”. 25 10 2008
Marty (VA) Hussein Waving Buh Bye To McFailin

Aussie, that would work.. it’s just amazing, they see everything as perfect.

My theory still fits.

Landslide for Obama!

Why?

The educated GOP people see what we see. They see a incredibly cranky old man and an even more incredibly unqualified VP candidate in Failin. They know they’re supposed to vote for their party, their parents, friends, family all tell them so. But, they are scared of the hatred and disconnected policies that change daily and get more and more rabid and ugly.

So, to avoid family strife, to avoid pissing off their budweiser pals, they tell everyone they’re votin McCain. They wear McCain tshirts and sport McCain lawn signs.

But they see him as the worst option in a generation. Maybe even worse than W.

So, they walk in the voting booth. McFailin stares back at them. They see the ugly death grin, they see his yellow teeth, they hear his hatred, they hear his string of lie after lie. Failin tells him gotcha, joe six-pack. Drink the Koolaid honey.. But he can’t. He pushes Obama, confirms and clicks VOTE.

He walks outside, his friends in his Chevy Duelly pickup, grabs a bud, drives off yellin McCain, YES!! His friends smile and cheer. Ironically, others in his group, also embarrassed to admit they did the same thing, cheer and yell McCain as they drive off to their wateringhole to stock up on more beer.

Found this link:

These are Christian’s desperately trying to get the word out about “Bible Spice” and her Dominion religion.
There is also a really scary post in there that someone read about a email going around…. “”Block African witchcraft curses against McCain and Palin NOW!”
I posted the article, but maybe got caught in AKM spam box? Its actually a very good forum here is another posting:

Palin at times blurred the church/state line

The camera closes in on Sarah Palin speaking to young missionaries, vowing from the pulpit to do her part to implement God’s will from the governor’s office.

What she didn’t tell worshippers gathered at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in her hometown was that her appearance that day came courtesy of Alaskan taxpayers, who picked up the $639.50 tab for her airplane tickets and per diem fees.

An Associated Press review of the Republican vice presidential candidate’s record as mayor and governor reveals her use of elected office to promote religious causes, sometimes at taxpayer expense and in ways that blur the line between church and state.

Since they follow a legalistic approach of all or none thinking, they will claim concessions based on anything they can use as a precedent, including changes in the provision of special education thereby making it a wedge issue.

Check out this latest on Politico. It seems that we will be hearing and seeing a lot of Mrs. Palin in the coming years, although I still can’t believe it rests on her Governorship, the details of which AKM has been illuminating for months now.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14929.html

What gets me most, and I agree about the moose turds, is that during that Chicago Tribune article, she didn’t answer the questions. She was blatently creating her own reality. Hate speech at her rallies? Didn’t hear it. Specific program for special needs kids? Isn’t that adding to the taxpayers’ burden, and if Obama got that specific he would get shelled instead of being called a ‘compassionate conservative.’

Correct me if I’m wrong, but even if she blames it on ‘handlers,’ Ms. Palin was the one wearing those clothes. She had to have seen the labels. It seems she likes the ‘handling’ to the point that it gets her where she wants to be, and then she turns against it. Sound familiar?

Anyway, read the Politico article and see what you think. They are going to run her in 2012. What will happen in AK after this election?

Yeah – I also like that it reminds people of why so many respected conservatives are jumping the McCain ship and becoming Obamacons!

Naturally all of here understand there are a million reasons why any person making a rational decision would have to choose Obama in this election. Redemption can be slow. That’s the scary part.

How they couldn’t see W’s complete and utter lack of anything that resembled intelligence is a surprise. But this time, the W lack of intellect is completely underwhelmed by the Appearance Of Palin, which makes W look quite scholarly.

I do think the Palin Effect has scared people with any ability to self-analyze and can see even if they think McCoward ‘could’ be ok, they are able to see that he very possibly could not survive his term, and then we’d be stuck with the most inept person in American History sitting in the White House. Would Failin have her entire 6th grade class move to DC to take up important positions? Would that woman who liked cows become Sec of Agriculture? Would Dud become the Co-President?

Would the National Religion become Mutheeism? Would it become legal to hunt Bald Eagles? And would Moose become the new National Symbol?

The Problems Of Palin would be beyond comprehension. And I think The Palin Effect addresses this issue and that will be huge part of the landslide.

McCoward can go and discuss his fall from grace and his DISHONORABLE behavior and cowardly behavior while an aviator during a crisis.

Lets hope. Things are starting to look good.

Re ther Politico article. It behooves Alaskans to make sure she cant be reelecteted as governor and all her misdeads(Troopergate, nonqualified expenses, any other mismanagement) are made public and if necessary prosecuted. I suppose she might try a run for the Senate and hopefully Alaska wont allow her to be elected. If she stays out of office it would be doubtful she will ever be considered for a Presidential position.
However, she might wind up as a talking head on FOX or some other conservative media channel. She will need to improve her communication skills, as she has trouble speaking. Her run on jibberish sentences are very annoying and confusing. Hopefully her past will catch up with her.

I hate being on the defensive. “Mary Glazier is one of the Prophets of the inner circle of leadership, the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders, in this rapidly growing and recently institutionalized movement. The New Apostolic Reformation is the name that Wagner has given to the structure that he formed in the late 1990s to bring together numerous strands of the “Third Wave of the Holy Spirit.” This past June, Glazier was part of a conference titled Opening the Gate for Heaven on Earth: Receiving the New Prophetic Wind for Increase, held in Everett, Washington, which included participation by Wagner and other top Apostles and Prophets. (Transcript linked here.)

Glazier, a feisty and youthful great grandmother of Haida Alaskan background, is also the Alaska state leader of the U.S. Strategic Prayer Network. She is a nationally known figure in the movement for her many years of success in Alaska. At the conference she not only recounts the history of the movement in Alaska but includes in her June 13th speech, “Critical Mass for Harvest,” the story of a 24 year old woman from her prayer network who is now, twenty years later, Governor of Alaska.

Palin has been anointed through the laying on of hands in at least four publicized ceremonies. Three of these are captured on existing video or photographs including the photographs posted on the official State of Alaska site. Currently the most widely published account is the video of the anointing by Kenyan pastor Thomas Muthee at the Wasilla Assembly of God church before Palin was elected governor of Alaska. While a number of media outlets have also picked up the stories of Muthee’s witch hunting exploits in Kiambu, Bishop Muthee is not just any witch hunter. He is internationally known for his starring role in the Transformations I video, produced in 1999, as one of the definitive media tools for the new evangelizing efforts of the Third Wave and the resulting New Apostolic Reformation. “

Well, it’s true in as much as the New Apostolic Reformation (led by C Peter Wagner) believes it’s true.

Key figures in the movement are Wagner, Dutch Sheets, Chick Pierce, Cindy Jacobs-all of whom can be googled for more disturbing background.

They are all nut jobs but, as they do their background preaching, teaching and manipulating they are connected to the better known nut jobs-Dobson, Robertson, Rick Warren.. who in turn are connected to government officials. It’s a very insidious pyramid scheme. But, effective.

I think this is right – certainly Andrew Sullivan and other prominent conservatives are trying to be optimistic and explain the current situation as part of a cathartic process that will ultimately allow a new, more moderate Republican party to emerge. The thought of future pundits soberly discussing The Palin Effect on teevee talk shows puts a smile on my face this morning.

And. Also. Palin’s future as a Christian Conservative Party candidate in the future (I just made that up because I don’t see how the R party will be able to hold its sorry self together after this election, and will probably split in 2) depends very much on how our friends in the Great Pink State of Alaska welcome her home. Impeachment or recall, civil lawsuits, criminal indictment, good old fashioned shunning– just a few of the possibilities. She can be rendered politically impotent, and I think AKM, Shannyn, Celtic Diva, Gryphen and their pals are just the folks to do the job.

Come to think of it, McCain hasn’t been looking well lately.

And the spam problem is really them with some kind of “prayer warrior” voodoo doll of a Dell Server where they stick pins into little fake printed circuit chip models?

I know we cannot let up for an instant. We are like on a high school football team where we are ahead my two touchdowns at half time and the coach says the score is nothing nothing when we go back out onto the field. He is a high school football coach. He HAS to say that! But maybe we ARE ahead. I can only afford to think about it for 30 seconds. Maybe the Republicans ARE going to go down in a landslide. Perhaps one of the greatest, most embarrassing trouncings in political history. Maybe Sarah Palin will be seen as one of the greatest well dressed clueless idiots in human history? How will that look for the “prayer warriors” and “which-hunter” clergy then? Hummm. Might look like their God is an idiot! have any of them ever thought about that? Like that battle of the “gods” on Mt. Carmel in the Bible and they look like the priests of Baal indeed who got their behinds kicked.

OK. Now back to the mindset of nothing nothing as the score as I put my helmet on and go over my assignment on Fly 22 Wing Set Wide Right On Two to man handle the hapless linebacker playing across from me.

Lawyer Slapped With $10K in Sanctions for ‘Laundry List of Unethical Actions’

Finding that a Pennsylvania lawyer had committed a “laundry list of unethical actions,” a federal judge has imposed more than $10,000 in sanctions and ordered the lawyer to complete six hours of ethics training.

U.S. District Judge J. Curtis Joyner’s 10-page opinion in Holsworth v. Berg is packed with criticism of the conduct of attorney Philip Berg of Lafayette Hill, Pa.

“Other attorneys should look to Mr. Berg’s actions as a blueprint for what not to do when attempting to effectively and honorably perform the duties of the legal profession,” Joyner wrote.

Palin is definitely starting to position herself. She is now blaming McCain’s staff for ‘mishandling’ her.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14929_Page2.html

Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image

Shame on those handlers for making her repeat her Bridge to Nowhere Lie, for not being able to completely suppress the Troopergate investigation, for not putting the right words in her mouth so she didn’t look so stupid in front of Katie Couric, for not having every witch-hunter video tape destroyed, for making her wear all the expensive clothes that she had no idea how much they cost! Yes, poor Sarah, once again a ‘victim’ of all the ‘haters’ around her.

Classic Palin! And it will be on full display for the whole world very soon. How many of us predicted that she would throw McCain under the bus at the first opportunity to promote herself? IT IS WHAT SHE DOES! It is what she has done her whole political career.

It is our duties as American citizens who care about our country and the intelligence and competence of our leaders to make sure this woman is exposed! I fear after the election the Democrats will write Palin off and assume she will slink back to Alaska. Personally I’d be surprised if Alaska ever sees Palin again except for some mandatory ceremonial appearances. She is going to hit the right-wing fundraising circuit. She is going to position herself as the ‘new’ voice of the Republican Party and she is going to reinvent herself once again into a new improved Sarah that will appeal to a great portion of the easily deluded right-wing. I think she will tone down her rhetoric and present herself as a sensible Christian Republican.

One thing is certain. She isn’t going anywhere.

AKM: It looks like you will be in business for a long time. I know you were looking to get some sleep after this election, but it’s not happening. Unfortunately to so many of us, especially women, Sarah Palin represents everything we as women have worked our whole lives to overcome. I think many of us will continue to expose her at every turn and not let her think she is fooling anyone with her lies and fraud.

Kos’ bio is really interesting.

Markos Moulitsas Zúniga is founder and publisher of Daily Kos, the largest progressive community blog in the United States.Moulitsas was born on September 11, 1971, in Chicago, IL. The son of a Salvadoran mother and Greek father, Moulitsas spent his formative years in El Salvador (1976-1980), where he saw first-hand the ravages of civil war. His family fled threats on their lives by the communist guerillas and settled in the Chicago area.

After high school, Moulitsas served in the U.S. Army (1989-92) as a 13P — Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Fire Direction Specialist. He trained at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and served the remainder of his three-year enlistment in Bamberg, Germany. While he entered the Army as a Republican, he abandoned the GOP soon after his enlistment.

Moulitsas earned two bachelor degrees at Northern Illinois University (1992-96), with majors in Philosophy, Journalism, and Political Science and a minor in German. He subsequently earned a J.D. at Boston University School of Law (1996-99) before deciding that it would be a cold day in hell before he ever worked as a lawyer.

He is now out in San Francisco.

It’s like Michael Moore in Farenheit 911 when he’s in Washington and he stops Congressmen and asks if they have children serving in Iraq and if they would sign their children up.

I would imagine if any rational person would compare the suffering between the aborted fetus and the child writhing on the ground with their limbs blown off they’d really have to rethink their responses to St. Peter. Too bad these prolifers won’t come up with a prolife platform regarding war. Even better a prochoice platform, next time we bomb a country we give all the innocent civilians the opportunity to come to the US first.

Every Sacred Person who has ever founded a religion has had to put that infamous ESCAPE CLAUSE OF JESUS “Not everyone who calls me Lord, Lord … depart from me I never knew you, etc, etc, etc” in there to insulate themselves and their Teachings from the deranged wackos that would attempt to usurp them for their own deranged brain chemistry fix from very unhappy childhoods and warped dysfunctional “religious” parents.

The “Christian Right” are scum for human beings as Jesus rightly predicted in His Zoroastrian End of the World Age Sheep vs Goats riff. (There is absolutely not one original idea in Christianity. The ideas aren’t even Jewish. They are ALL Zoroastrian.)

The “End of the Boy Scouts”! You have just got to love these people! WOW!

GET RID OF THEIR TAX EXEMPT STATUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

25 10 2008
ocliberal

Speaking of the ‘fundies, I’ve had to take on a few myself in the recent weeks. Besides supressing gays and overturning Roe vs Wade, their #1 goal is to convert the United States BACK to the Christian nation that our founding fathers orginally envisioned when the wrote the Constitution. Yes, they are so deluded they actually believe that even though the word “Christian” appears nowhere in the Constitution, that is just a ‘typo’ and that our founding fathers were all good Christians and that is what they meant!

But here is a good argument that actually leaves them a little speechless that very few people really know.

Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and John Adams were not Christians. They were ‘deists’, meaning the believed in one God, but did not believe in the Christian theology of Jesus being resurrected. And the one basic tenet for being Christian, despite what the fundies would have you believe, is that you must believe Jesus was resurrected or you are truly not a Christian.

This is a link to a very interesting article about Thomas Jefferson explaining his deist beliefs.
http://www.sullivan-county.com/id3/jefferson_deist.htm

I HEART Thomas Jefferson. Thank God (and I do believe in God) that Jefferson was at the helm when we were forming our great country and not the likes of George Bush or Sarah Palin.

In the words of Thomas Jefferson…
I should then take a view of the deism and ethics of the Jews, and show in what a degraded state they were, and the necessity they presented of a reformation. I should proceed to a view of the life, character, and doctrines of Jesus, who sensible of incorrectness of their ideas of the Deity, and of morality, endeavored to bring them to the principles of a pure deism, and juster notions of the attributes of God, to reform their moral doctrines to the standard of reason, justice and philanthropy, and to inculcate the belief of a future state. This view would purposely omit the question of his divinity, and even his inspiration. To do him justice, it would be necessary to remark . . . that his system of morality was the most benevolent and sublime probably that has been ever taught, and consequently more perfect than those of any of the antient philosophers.” (Ltr. to Joseph Priestly, Apr. 9, 1803.)

Defeat on November 4 is a small price for Palin to pay if it allows her to continue to mulct the Alaskan government and reposition herself for a resurrection in 2012.

The next president is going to have a very difficult row to hoe economically and, unlike FDR, he will not be able to count on a non-participant America being in a position to benefit by supplying materials to an at-war Europe to jumpstart manufacturing output.

At present, America is hip deep in two wars in the Middle East, and America has outsourced so much of it production to other countries that it will be a hugely daunting task to recreate capacity, and to retool and retrain.

@ Crust Scramble – SouthGA

I certainly hope that you are right.

The End Timers and other nutcases will seemingly overlook even their pastors’ close encounters of the homosexual kind as long as forgiveness is begged and promises are given (I promise not to get caught next time?), and would likely condone the rupturing of the United States if told that it would hasten the Rapture.

In 2012 the developed world’s economy will have recovered and the trials and tribulations of late 2008 and 2009 will likely be but distant memories in America, with few recalling that Bush was president when the financial fiascoes fell apart and came to home to roost: it’ll be the incoming president who’ll be blamed for the hard times.

Starry-eyed, bright and brainless might again see an opportunity to carry the day, and I’d hate to see the Palin family (and how many of them will there be by then? Bristol, Willow and even Sarah could all be cranking out more babies by 2010) be positioned to be swept into the White House on a tsunami of evangelistic, End-Times euphoria, supported by general voter boredom and apathy.

25 10 2008
ocliberal

bigpete: I think ‘her’ thing as I have been learning, beginning with her time as Wassilla mayor is to use members of her own party to promote herself within the party and then turn around and back-stab that person to advance herself.

This is an excellent article entitled “Barracuda” that gives a clearer picture of the true Sarah Palin. This woman is not stupid. She is insidious in her methods to achieve her ruthless ambition. http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=8c130fe3-adab-4cb3-8443-c363f085cf13

She also knows better than anyone else out there how to exploit people (men mostly) who are attracted to her ‘physically’, who are more than willing to help the ‘charming little lady’ and probably don’t even know what hit them when she sticks the shiv in their backs.

She really is a true grifter. McCain is just one more mark to dispose of on her way up.

But the problem I see with Palin, and what I believe will be her ultimate downfall, is that she apparently has bought into to her own invicinibility and hasn’t been too careful with who she has pissed off on her meteoric rise to the top. I think she has dodged many bullets that she had no business dodging. There are many intelligent and concerned Republicans who aren’t buying her schtick and she is going to piss off the wrong person one of these times and then her crash will be as metoric as her rise.

I think there are many out there who look forward to that day.

Despise her claims otherwise, she was given a huge pass by the media. Nevertheless the majority of voters have seen right through her and thus her historic unfavoribility ratings.

I just want to be sure that the pressure is never let up on her and she is held accountable for every lie and unethical thing she has done, the list of which seems to be endless.

ocliberal, thanks for a great post. I read the New Republic article earlier this week, having read much of what was in it in less detail previously. Your post expressed my thoughts about Palin EXACTLY, down to the last line that we should not let up.

I look to my politically smart and savvy husband daily to assure me that Palin will be a distant memory in 2012.

Maybe there are others in public life who so obviously and consistently lie(not spin, not twist, but lie,) and behave in unethical ways but I can’t think of any. I would put Cheney right up there, but Palin wins the award. How someone can behave so unethically across the board, and still be considered by anyone for anything, is beyond me. And, all this in less than 2 years as a Governor!!!

The ironic thing is that the McLame camp is getting a taste of her backstabbing already. It would have taken only a cursory look at her history, and one basic rule of human behavior, for them to figure out they were playing with fire. (That rule : THE BEST PREDICTOR OF FUTURE BEHAVIOR IS PAST BEHAVIOR).

Not surprisingly, Palin has decided to become a ROGUE and follow her own instincts. (Wasn’t there a story about her firing someone for that behavior?)
Here’s the story from politico.com:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14929.html

For my fellow mudflatters who are Alaskans, who are these people who are Palin insiders? It was funny to see Sen. Lyda Green as one of her supporters in the picture in the New Republic article. Something happened there, huh?

This is all about how she rigged the pipeline contract. This is important. Always follow the money.

And speaking of the Shiraz – I tried some in sauce when I was canning tomatoes last month. It is divine with fresh basel and the variety of peppers and sweet onions I use. Just an aftertaste of a different pepper. Yummy

Hysterical! Love the tracking collar. They might try this with Palin if she continues to go rogue.

To Deep Blue in Virginia (and others):

Please don’t let these fundie types drive you from the Church! I am a devout Catholic, and agree with the teachings of the Catholic Bishops – which might surprise some of these pastors who are trying to tell people how to vote. They are anti-abortion, to be sure, but also:
anti death penalty
anti war
anti poverty
pro stewardship of the environment and of our fellow humans. If you don’t believe this, remember that the Pope and the Catholic Bishops spoke strongly against the war in Iraq.

This is a *consistent* pro-life ethic, which you definitely don’t get from the fundamentalists. As for the abortion thing, my sister and I, being worried by it, spoke to our pastor, who told us it’s certainly a serious issue, and a serious problem, but we need to look at the far deeper problems that lead to it. The Christian way to fight abortion is to promote education (especially education of women), fight poverty, support children (universal health care for children would be a good start!), support families . . .among other things. There are a lot of other things. But, if you look at this as a whole, you can see that there are MANY issues on which Obama is far more Christian, and far more in line with Catholic teaching, than McCain/Palin.

And one more thing. As an American Catholic, I believe in the dogma of the Church, but also in the separation of Church and State. Pastors, ministers, etc, have NO BUSINESS telling their parishioners how to vote!

Oh – and one more thing (I can’t seem to stop!) Christianity is supposed to be about inclusion and forgiveness and love. That’s my understanding of my faith. So I don’t see how the rigid conservatives, of any branch of Christianity, aren’t distorting and damaging their faith. Just my two cents, and sorry for the rant.

BTW, I don’t really consider Palin’s faith Christianity. Is that narrow-minded of me?

OK, this Puck Mule church has taken off without me.
I have red wine in the kitchen, chocolate at hand and rock’n’roll in the CD player. Now I need to figure out my name–I really do not want my “Palin name” to pollute our new enterprise!
PS. I hope that vintage rock’n’roll is OK, too. I really like a lot of the 60’s stuff, myself.

Palin is definitely starting to position herself. She is now blaming McCain’s staff for ‘mishandling’ her.

Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image

Excellent, excellent long post post in it’s entirity. I just made an archive of it for future reference.

I think someone should take this as their Palin Baby Name as quoted in your post:

[name here] aka Botched Rollout Palin

I like the PBN I already have. If you don’t have a PBN as “ocliberal” I think YOU should take it!

Come on over to the Episcopal Church. There are lots of “rejects” from the RC Church over here (including spouse and me), and we love and welcome everyone! Or, we’ll all just go and join Puck Mule Church and be happy together…

@Aussie Puck Mule Hussein (06:51:48) :

Well, I am an Alaskan and have eaten moose steaks, so I’m here to tell you that it is delicious and very lean (so you have to be careful not to overcook it) and much healthier for you than farm-raised meat. I haven’t had much, as there are few moose in SE AK and hunt permits are by lottery, but a friend from Fairbanks gave me some once. It was divine.

@Aussie Puck Mule Hussein (08:50:26) :
We just MUST have the music of the blessed disciple Bob Dylan also, too! And I’ll bring dark chocolate, homemade liqueurs, and pies. May I be Sista Pie (since there already seems to be a Sista Crust)?

I have been looking for a biography on Todd Palin, but have been able to find only peripheral references to him in Sarah’s bios. One source actually referred to him as an engineer who worked on the oil slopes. However, I question whether he ever actually graduated from high school, let alone took any college courses or got a degree in engineering. In that he appears to be the only advisor upon whom Sarah Palin relies, and given his documented presence at/interference with the Governor’s meetings with legislators and various administrative state employees, I believe it is important to know just what qualifications/experience/education this man (power behind the throne) has.
And exactly what does it mean to “finish” versus “graduate” from Wasilla High School? The Palin’s oldest son was described as not having achieved a 2.0 grade point average in high school. If a 2.0 is the equivalent of a C average, and C is the passing grade, can Track Palin be described as a high school “graduate”? Given the dismal academic performance of her two oldest kids, and her daughter’s “fiancee”, I shudder to think of the negative impact her governorship will have on Alaskan education.
