Behind the Scenes Update for Hard-Core Troopergate Devotees.

23 10 2008

Stretch your mind back for a minute. Remember when a group called Alaskans for Truth collected all those signatures asking for the immediate resignation or dismissal of Alaska Attorney General, Talis Colberg for telling state employees it was OK to ignore legislative subpoenas? There was a big rally (the biggest in the history of the state) and more than 2000 signatures were collected in the span of a couple days. Then they were delivered to the governor’s office in Anchorage. They were supposed to be delivered to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell….but he decided to stay holed up in his office with the blinds drawn, so we got this guy:

That’s Bill McAllister. He used to work as a newscaster at KTUU, Anchorage’s NBC affiliate. Now he’s Sarah Palin’s Communications Director. Meghan Stapleton used to work as a newscaster at KTUU, Anchorage’s NBC affiliate, too. I’m beginning to sense a pattern here…

As any good Truth Squaddite would do, McAllister is still not content to let the Troopergate investigation conducted by Stephen Branchflower and the Legislative Council rest. All those state employees (plus Todd Palin) who didn’t show up for their depositions? Right at the end, they acquiesced and wrote up a quick statement with the help of the McCain cadre of lawyers.

Well, Bill wasn’t quite through smearing Walt Monegan, the ex-Commissioner of Public Safety whose firing caused the whole Troopergate fiasco. He wrote a little letter to local and national journalists which was a 50/50 mixture of scolding and whining. Linda Kellen Biegel (blogger Celtic Diva) who was present during the petition drop, didn’t like it much. As a matter of fact, it rankled her so badly that she posted an open letter to the aforementioned Mr. McAllister.

Worth a look. She’s maaaad.

Keep up the great work AKM and all the mudpuppies. Absolutely loved the clips on Chris Matthews – brilliant!! My 3 1/2 year old loves it too she keeps signing More (she is non-verbal with Down Syndrome).

UGH – just saw today’s headlines -SWWBM is coming to my town tomorrow. UGH! She isn’t getting the big venue that Barack and Biden got a few weeks ago. They spoke to 26,000 here in Fredericksburg, VA. She is getting Hurkamp park which I don’t think can hold half that many. Have a previous engagement or I’d go and protest. My 9 year old is so into this election!

AKM – any old blogs on SWWBM and her “accomplishments” as a “friend to families with disability” in Alaska? I know she hasn’t been, just wondering if you all have found more info than me. http://media-dis-n-dat.blogspot.com/2008/09/why-disability-community-should-fear.html

McCain, Socialist

An exchange from 2000:

Responding to a question from a girl who wants to know why her her father, a doctor, pays a higher tax rate than people who earn less:

McCain: “I think it’s to some degree because we feel, obviously, that wealthy people can afford more.”

Doctor’s daughter: Aren’t we getting closer and closer to, like, socialism and stuff?

McCain: “Here’s what I really believe. When you are, reach a certain level of comfort, there is nothing wrong with paying somewhat more.”

Hello, all–I am a long-time lurker, finally commenting. Sarah Palin has the awful fascination of some kind of contemporary archetype–not only the Mean Girl but the Clueless Cheerleader and the Vamp. Any other guesses on this? I’ve never sewen such immediate strong visceral reactions for or against a public figure. As for her recent interviews on CNN and NBC, I am reminded of my Missouri Ozarks pharmacist father’s expression: “She is afflicted with a diarrhea of words and a constipation of ideas.” (This has been a useful expression all my life, never moreso than now. . . )

As for McCain, picking up on the previous thread’s Grinch riff, “His heart is full of dirty socks; there’s garlic in his soul, Mister Griiiih-nch.”

A great site. I love the incisive comments and all the good links. Keep it up, AK & CO!

I have questions that I don’t think have ever been addressed. How much is Alaska going to charge citizens in the lower 48 to take Sarah Palin back? Has there been a fund started to provide Palin plane fare back to Alaska the minute that the results of the election are announced? Has Levi been granted political asylum in any of the lower 48? Will Palin have to give the $150,000 wardrobe back or will she be able to say that they were a gift from an adoring public? If it is ruled that she cannot keep the wardrobe will she be allowed to donate the clothes to charity and take a full tax deduction? As living with Caribou Barbi must be very stressful is anyone keeping an eye on First Dude to make sure he doesn’t “disappear” after the election is over? Is an ex-VP candidate entitled to Secret Service protection to protect her from enemies made before her nomination as well as those made during the election? If so, who will have to pay for the huge increase in Secret Service personnel needed?

Ayep. It’s Palin’s tradition to sucker in people to make them blindly loyal mouth pieces and then to throw them under the bus on her way up the ladder. It boggles the sensible mind that (some of?) the current patsies are still blindly loyal to her even though they MUST know what’s coming their way. In that power game world of politics, I can sort of understand that many are too weak to stand up against known wrongs while they’re in the throes of ridin’ high and being part of the winning ticket, but rats are rats are rats and I’d expect a rat to know when it’s time to save its own ratty tail.

I get the feeling a lot of people in Alaska saying the same thing. It’s as if the release of the first Troopergate report served to melt Sarah’s frightening (to some), plastic-coated facade, just as Dorothy’s bucket of water in the Wizard of Oz served to melt the Wicked Witch of the West.

@Can Recoil Lightning Mush Palin (VTJen) (10:19:30) :

I think it varies from state to state, but no votes will be counted before Nov. 4, because no state wants early voting results to influence Election Day turnout or voting decisions. I think some states start counting the votes on election day, but others wait until the last day they’ve set to receive absentee ballots that were mailed in by election day (usually about 10 business days after election day I think…to allow out-of-state and overseas mail a chance to arrive) and then count all the absentee and questioned ballots and such. Among other things, I don’t think most election offices want to spend the time and money to count a few ballots each day as they come in, in addition to the possible issues with ballot security that might cause.

Hope that helps. You can prob. find out what your state does from the Division of Elections offices or website.

I will never understand the crap about voting.

It’s easy.. LOTTERY MACHINES..

those babies can take millions of entries, correctly, and put an impossible to cheat barcode, with an algorythym code that verifies everything.

simple enough to adapt that princible to voting. You go in a voting booth, you push the names you want.. it spit out a reciept, with a code # and id #.. These can’t be altered or scammed. Then, when the counts are done, within 30 days, ALL votes are put online, and anyone can enter their id and code numbers and verify that who they voted for is indeed what was counted.

Since the #’s are random, without both of those numbers, no one’s going to know your vote unless you find you were cheated and contest it. And you have a paper trail to prove who you voted for based on your reciept.

Sounds like it would work to me.. time to stop voting like a 20th century bunch of buffoons and adapt voting technology to current ability.

Augie-our SS system is so broke that I worry that our younger citizens will collect anything. Did you know that, at this time, the SS system is supporting much of government with their surplus? Did you know that there is a SS office in Mexico City? I retired at 65 (7 years ago) and I haven’t stopped working yet. Half of the time as volunteer and half at a much lower wage than usual because of the strange rules on how much you can make. If the SS system would allow me to work at a realistic wage I would be paying more taxes and paying into the SS system even though I would never receive any additional SS income. Once you are on SS you can never get a higher rate (other than COL) even if you pay into it. To me the fix is relatively simple-raise the cap on contributions to $500,000 of wages per year but cap the employer contribution at $100,000 per yer. That would avoid employers holding back wages to avoid SS tax. It would also help to create an untouchable SS Fund that Congress wouldn’t be able to use as their own ATM.

It makes me mad back here in PA b’cuz as soon as the polls close in the East every TV station starts making predictions on the winner(s) based on exit polls, asking people as they come out who they voted for – then within a few hours they proclaim the winner and those absentee ballots, etc. haven’t even been counted yet. Alaska & Hawaii really get zinged when this happens b’cuz of their time zones – the networks and news stations actually fight to be the first one to predict the winner based on fairly flimsy data . . .

I think it’s absentee ballots that are counted 10 days after. I believe early votes (in states that allow early non-absentee voting) must be counted with the election day ballots. But do check it out at your state’s division of elections (on the secretary of state’s page).

Pacificnwgal–with all due respect, it depends on what your criteria for “rich” is. Most people who collect SS have paid into it all their working lives, and those who collect the most, paid the most.

Most states count the “early” votes as voted on election day. The absentee ballots vary from state to state. In some states, they are only counted to certify the vote (usually 10 days to 2 wks after) UNLESS there is a very close race. If someone won a race by, say, 70 votes, and there are 300 absentee ballots, they’d be counted sooner.

I read the McAllister letter on Alaska Dispatch yesterday, and was frustrated that there were no comments to provide perspective. Thank you for your response, Celtic Diva, and to AKM for posting this story and the link to CD’s site.

There’s too much backstory for the uninitiated to even begin to think about Mr. McAllister’s letter, though it was apparent the purpose of highlighting certain comments from the depositions was to disparage Mr. Monegan. When I read the complaints that Mr. Monegan was difficult to control, it only reinforced my opinion that Mr. Monegan had been the target of a coordinated disinformation campaign. I now understand why the media recipients of McAllister’s letter are not responding. As Celtic Diva wrote, Mr. McAllister should be glad they aren’t.

Things have changed with social security. If you wait until you’re 66 you can get your full amount & there is no limit on how much you make. If you retire before 66 you’re stuck with whatever that benefit is & you can make very little without getting penalized. Problem in Calif is everyone has become an independent contractor & they don’t pay into ss & under the Bush Administration they, like the Palin’s, have helped themselves to all sorts of questionable deductions. There is not much money going into ss anymore & McCain would like to privatize it & do away with medicare, which would be devastating.

A very good article posted on the New Republic – “Barracuda”
http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=8c130fe3-adab-4cb3-8443-c363f085cf13

I don’t know if this has been posted yet or not, but I found this to be a very
revealing look into the real Sarah Palin. I think much of what drives her is a real feeling of inadequacy among those she feels are smarter and more educated than herself. I think she seriously is threatened by those she perceives as ‘intellectual’ and it drives her actions to the point that she feels it necessary to suppress those around her who she feels are intellectually superior than herself. This was probably fairly easy in Wassilla, but I think on the big stage now, she is woefully out of her league.

These days, Palin is engaged in this same fight against elites, though on a considerably larger stage. “I’m not one of those who maybe came from a background of, you know, kids who perhaps graduate college and their parents give them a passport and give them a backpack and say go off and travel the world,” she recently told Katie Couric. “No, I’ve worked all my life.” That hardly makes her the first politician to run on class resentments–nearly every conservative from George W. Bush to Mitt Romney has sought a bond with voters by attacking the over-educated and entitled. But more often than not these conservatives are elites themselves; hence the spectacle of Yale legacies and Harvard millionaires (and most of the Fox News executive suite) railing against wine-swilling sophisticates.

Palin, by contrast, may be the first conservative politician since Nixon to experience resentment so authentically. For her, it’s not so much a political tool as a motivating principle. A trip through Palin’s past reveals that almost every step of her career can be understood as a reaction to elitist condescension–much of it in her own mind.

If Barack Obama brings nothing else to this country except a respect for eduction and intelligence I will feel like we have succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.

This ‘dumbing down of America’ that has been the product of the Republican party for the last eight years is insulting and dangerous.

On the note of the kids… I have a hunch that the two younger girls are really eating it up being in the limelight (or at least they really, really look like it in the pictures), but I do wonder if Bristol isn’t getting upset with being put into all sorts of awkward positions by her mother’s ambition. There were early quotes of Wasilla people saying it was common knowledge that Trig is Bristol’s baby and also that she’s pregnant again. Maybe that was just people talking to get their half minute of media fame, but maybe it wasn’t… if it wasn’t, Bristol went from living her life without much judgment to living a difficult lie on account of her mother. If that’s what it is, life must be pretty awful for her now, and with little hope on the horizon for turning it back to what it was.

Even if Trig isn’t Bristol’s baby, all the hoopla fed by Palin’s fertilizing the rumor mills has already put an incredible load on that girl… I wonder how she feels about that. And how Levi and his family feel about that.

I just learned that Jill Biden is coming to my town tomorrow! I’m a little surprised but at the same time not. I live in Palm Coast, a city of about 80,000 in Flagler County, which for a couple of years not too long ago was the fastest growing county in the country.

Housing bubble burst, and the town is awash in for sale signs, unemployment is rampant (many made their living off of the growth boom) and people are packing up and leaving, which is too bad, as it’s a beautiful place. Anyway, we’re a tiny county by Florida standards, but Obama operatives say that if they can get Flagler, they can actually unlock the chokehold that repubs have had on north Florida.

I have to go, and will take the two kids who stood with me for seven hours a few weeks ago to wait to hear Obama in Jax. I need to get the bad taste in my mouth OUT from reading on local forums about the excitement generated by McCain in a neighboring county. Ick.

I just wanted to also “complain” about my addiction to this blog. I am at work, trying to write a report and I keep stopping to check for updates. I must confess that AKMuckraker is the bomb. I feel as if I am in the know about everything regarding SWWNBN and her machinations. I’ve read about her rise to power but I still can’t believe she was elected to a gubernatorial position. Oops, I have to duck back to my report…

It is interesting to contemplate the difference in cultures between Alaska and Norway as to their ‘windfall’ oil related revenues.

Norway invests them in a ‘sovereign wealth fund’ to be there, including its growth for future generations, when the source runs out.

Alaskans blow theirs on snow-mobiles and… ? PLUS sucking support out of us in the hated ‘Lower 48’, and the US runs up huge debt for its future generations!

she’s just totally creepy.. like something dragged out of the 50’s when ugly hair was just a way of life.

although her forehead must have some ugly sores on it.. she never exposes it.

Anyway.. the moron squad has started to attack Obama over going to see his dying grandmother. If they play that too much, it’ll definitely backfire on them.. So, lets hope they ream him a huge one for doing it. And the gall of comparing it to sarah saks is about the most callous thing I’ve heard them do, and they’ve stooped pretty low.

And lets be real, Heather Wilson routinely is able to suck her toes while standing, she stoops as low as you can get!

This interview is not to be believed. Where do I begin? Palin speaks about how Levi is hardworking and will figure out how to get his GED – he’s not looking for handouts! After reading about her $150,000 fashion windfall and having all the expenses for her family to accompany her to events paid for by taxpayers, whether or not the family is invited, I find these comments just stunning in their lack of self-awareness. She also dismisses criticism by calling it “entertainment.” Unbelievable but a therapist’s dream client (if you are looking for someone who needs serious help). She also consider sherself an intellectual and voracious reader.

It seems like an eternity since Palin was chosen as McCain’s running mate. I guess it’s been a little under two months. Life has been so stressful since his pick. I no longer tune into CNN or MSNBC unless Keith or Rachel are on. I get all my news from the internet. Huffington said something a few days ago. Since everyone is computer literate that Rovian politics will no longer work, everyone fact checks & the media & the candidates can’t get away with it.

The United Kingdom also blew their North Sea oil windfall.

The multinational oil companies which reaped huge profits paid no taxes to the UK.

The UK privatized (for pennies on the pound) their utilities; their citizens can’t afford the present-day energy costs to heat their homes or drive their cars; and the UK banks bought billions and billions of pounds worth of the asset-backet Ponzi paper sold offshore by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

However, the UK does not have $10 billion a month in on-going Iraqi war expenses.

Sue in Kansas- I am a Republican also. I was shocked at McCain’s pick of Gov. Palin as VP nominee. I had never heard of her and I immediately investigated her and what I found out I didn’t like. When she redecorated her Mayoral office for $50,000 the city council called her on the carpet because the expenditure was unauthorized. “I’m Mayor and I’ll do what I want.” was her reply. This speaks volumes about her character. Now, imagine Sarah Palin with 50,000 nuclear weapons at her disposal. Scary isn’t it.

How wrong can one person be about another? When Bill McAllister was with Channel 2, I sort of adopted him; worried about his choice of ties, shirts and suits. He seemed like such a sweet nice guy that a mother would be happy for her daughter to bring home. Then shortly before he left, he began to look real snappy; great ties, shirts that fit and new suits. Did the Palins dress him or did he spend his own money to look for her? I hope that his behavior now is the result of his philosophical convictions and not just being bought off. I have no respect for people who go with the money or the position; give me philosophical conviction every time.

$150,000? Chicken Feed! Not even worth talking about! I worked as a project manager on construction projects in the Washington, D.C. area for 12 years. I can talk to you for weeks about the millions of dollars I saw wasted. The Oklahoma City bombing has cost the US billions because all government buildings must be made bomb proof but leased buildings don’t have the same requirement. I had a $169,000 change order on one project. I reviewed the drawings and saw that it wouldn’t work. We had a 3 hour change order meeting. The engineer for the government said, “We know it won’t work but we want it.” I had the work installed, wrote a letter explaining why it wouldn’t work and then charged the government tens of thousands to make it work.

I guess my post was not very clear. I didn’t mean after Heather Wilson’s election–I mean after the presidential election. The Congressional inquiry into the US attorney firings isn’t going to be taken up until after the presidential election. Last month the Bush DoJ managed to get Harriert Miers and Josh Bolten’s subpoenas to testify on the topic before Congress pushed back until after November 4. This after Alberto Gonzalez threw them under the bus to save himself. Iglesias is the star witness in this, and clearly the most aggrieved of the US attorneys, so if anyone gets in trouble (please, please), it will probably be Heather or Pete Domenici. I think this story would be major news if it weren’t for the other disasters (McCain campaign) and emergencies (economy) on the front pages.

Horrible News Out of Pennsylvania

Robber Carves ‘B’ In McCain Supporter’s Face

Thursday, October 23, 2008 – updated: 5:24 pm EDT October 23, 2008
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Police said a mugger carved a “B” into a woman’s face, saying he would teach her a lesson, after noticing a McCain/Palin bumper stick on her car.

A Pittsburgh police officer said that the woman reported she was at a Citizens Bank ATM on Pearl and Liberty on Wednesday night when a man put a knife to her throat and demanded money.

He said the mugger noticed a McCain bumper sticker on the woman’s car, became angry and began punching the woman in the back of the head.

After the woman fell to the ground, the mugger told her he was going to teach her a lesson and carved a “B” into the right side of her face, the officer said.

Police said the woman described her attacker as a black male, about 6 feet 4 inches tall, and wore dark-colored jeans and a black undershirt.

Peter Feldman, communications director for the McCain/Palin campaign, confirmed that the woman was a volunteer for the campaign and was mugged at knifepoint on Wednesday night.

Feldman said the robber carved a “B” in the woman’s face, presumably for Barack.

He said the woman was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

@Grammy aka Commando Coalfire Palin (12:19:35):

I do know about the following planned event (apologies for the length…):

Women for Obama event on Saturday-Just one hour to help convince voters in the key swing states

Dear Alaska Women for Obama,
Your voices are needed one more time – and for just one hour!

This Saturday (Ovtober 25) from 11am – noon, Alaska Women for Obama wants to have a huge photo op in support of the Obama-Biden ticket.. This is our last organized event to show women outside that women in Alaska support OBAMA!!! And we know the votes cast by women are going to make all the difference in this election. This message will be used in key battleground states.

We have red, white, and blue materials to create a giant Alaska for Obama logo on the Park Strip, and we have plans to have pictures and film taken from the top floor of a nearby building. We are lucky to have some really talented film and video people helping us with this-and people who have done this before. The end product is going to be amazing!

We’ve measured the area, laid out the design and we’ve done the math. Now all we need is you!! We think we’ll need at least 100 people to make it work. We need to know by Friday night whether we will have enough people. Please RSVP to XXX as soon as possible. Note – Please wear black pants or dark pants if you can. It will help us emphasize the red, white and blue.

We expect that Obama for America (the national campaign) will use this visual to show that Alaskan women are informed and ready for change, and we support OBAMA!!! Our voice, because we know a lot about the choices, is so important in this election.

And for our women supporters outside of Anchorage-we want to hear from you too. Organize something similar in your own town or just take photos of yourself and /or friends with an Obama sign and your city name. We want representation from Dillingham, Bethel, Barrow, Nome, Fairbanks, Wasilla, Palmer, Girdwood, Moose Pass, Hope, Seward, Homer, Kodiak, Cordova, Yakutat, Haines, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell and all points in between. Just please send your photo by 5pm this Saturday, October 25. And remember this is a grassroots thing so if it’s your homemade sign and your proud of it , then we want to use it.

Let’s show the women in those swing states that they need to make the right choice on Nov. 4!

For the Anchorage event, Meet at L and 9th at 10:45 a.m (a church is across the street on one side and the Hawthorn Suites on the other). We’ll have coffee and hot cocoa available. We’ll order sunshine too! Dress warmly, and again, please RSVP to XXX

Alaska has had some tough times recently. Three legislators are in prison, a Governor’s chief of Staff has been convicted, and an Alaskan company was brought to its knees.

Our US Senator is awaiting a verdict for his corruption trial and the trial has shown us new abuses of power.

When will this stop? When will Alaskans say enough is enough? When can Alaskans be proud of who represents them in government?

A statewide group–Alaskans for Ethics in Government–has formed to address the public offical arrests and trials that have happened this year.

Regardless of what the verdict is in the Ted Stevens trial, it’s time to let people know we think enough is enough!

Alaskans for Ethics in Government is having a press event about the verdict. This will be a perfect time to voice our opinions about this important matter.

We’re not sure what day the press conference will be–the jury is still meeting. But it seems like it will be on Friday or maybe next week.

We’ll send out a notice when we know what day for sure. There will also be events in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Can you join us? Can you bring a friend or two??

Date: to be announced

Time: 12pm

Location: Capitol Steps

We’d like a big group of people to let others know we’re not going to allow corrupt politicians to run our state anymore.

This is NOT a rally. This isn’t just about Ted Stevens. It’s about showing we are mad about what’s been happening.

Thanks and stay tuned! On the day of the verdict, check your email and you’ll know when the press conference is.

Mail-in and absentee ballots get counted with the rest; only provisional ballots get set aside, until the voter brings in the correct ID info, or the election board corrects its error. I took my ballot to be stamped with a received date before it went in the box- you never know what might happen to ballots that are mailed in (although the USPS works hard to make sure none are lost).

Do we believe the B incident in Pittsburgh? Have I become too cynical, or are there others who are sceptical?

Thanks for that number. We haven’t had any robocalls yet. Maybe the town we’re in. Maybe we’re already on an enemies list.

Marty (VA) Hussein Non-Horn Tooter (10:40:42) :

Your randomized track-back idea is good (hey, it works for lotteries). It could still be spoofed, but would require an awfuly complicated conspiracy.

The thing is, though, the big problems with voter disenfranchisement are things we’ve seen happen right out in the open: caging, party-oriented ID challenges forcing provisional ballots, enormously long lines in urban precincts because the election officials don’t provide enough machines/sites for the registration, and — new to me this year — really really slow ID checking (darn, just don’t understand why them computers are so slow), which is already showing up in some early voting locations.

I completely agree that a anonymized but verifiable trackback system would be a great idea — hell, I’m old enough I’m willing to display my vote publicly, if they’d let me do it officially. But the other issues require political, not technological, solutions. If the Demos do get a pretty large Congressional majority, I think one of the most crucial things for them to do with it is to produce a Federal voting rights act with lots of detail and some real teeth. E.g., if more than 5% of the precincts in a state have queue times of greater than one hour, the highest election officials in the state (and maybe some intermediaries) go to jail.

In an ostensible democracy, interfering with citizens’ right to vote (which includes making it unduly hard) must be the highest level felony that doesn’t involve physical harm.

LOL-I’m a bit older than a lot of you here and I remember when racism was rampant in this country. Congressmen wore their racism like a badge of honor. I wonder how many African-Americans would believe that they would ever be accused of being elitists?
————————————————–
I’m almost 61, but I guess my perspective is fuzzy because I never thought of that. Damn. Maybe we are making slow progress. For sure, nobody ever attacked MLK for being an elitist.

It is interesting to contemplate the difference in cultures between Alaska and Norway as to their ‘windfall’ oil related revenues.
————————————————–

Actually, to be fair to Alaskans, the Permanent Fund is a huge investment fund (like the Norske). The Permanent Fund Distributions we hear about are, generally, from part of the proceeds of the investment. I believe there are actually pretty strict laws prohibiting drawing down the principal.

The main difference I see (and I am no expert, although 3/4 Norwegian ancestry) is that Norway (being an actual sort of socialist country) spends a lot of time and discussion trying to find long term social uses for all that money.

I do not understand why RICH people need social security or a disability pension from the government.
———————————————————-

They don’t. But the total amount of money from SS or disability that goes to truly rich people is a tiny part of the total, because truly rich people are a tiny part of the population. I don’t want to be the one to have to decide where the dividing line is. I’m more worried about the not-truly-rich people getting what they need.

$150,000? Chicken Feed! Not even worth talking about!
——————————————————-

Au contraire, “mon ami”.

Actually, in absolute terms it is small. Even in my barely-middle-management days that would have been ca 1% of my group’s annual budget. What’s worth talking about (a little), though, is how stupid does the RNC have to be to tout this woman as Everymom and then dress her WAY over the top from N-M, etc? Admitting completely the double standard for women’s appearance, does anyone seriously think they couldn’t have gotten her twenty camera-ready outfits (including shoes) for $3,000 each?

And, my personal favorite part, the deer-in-the-headlights “oh, we always planned to donate the clothes to charity”. Right, just after the faeco-ventilatory intersection.

If you haven’t read today’s NYTimes endorsement of Obama, it’s really quite remarkable in its detail and thoughtfulness. Here’s the last paragraph:

<em.The nation’s problems are simply too grave to be reduced to slashing “robo-calls” and negative ads. This country needs sensible leadership, compassionate leadership, honest leadership and strong leadership. Barack Obama has shown that he has all of those qualities.

I retired in 1999 and went on social security. I continued to work and in another field and contributed to SS. Every year SS sent me a letter stating that based on my continued contributions they were recalculating my monthly check. Every year I received a larger monthly check based on my continued contributions to the system. Additionally, after a certain age (I don’t have the info available) you can earn as much as you can with no withholding from your check.
