Brand new poll numbers came out yesterday from Ivan Moore Research, here in Anchorage.
McCain-Palin – 53
Obama-Biden – 42
While McCain/Palin still has a double digit lead, frankly this is a really big deal.
Here is the way Alaska fell out for the last three presidential elections so you can compare:
McCain 53 – Obama 42 (results on 10/21)
Bush 62 – Kerry 35
Bush 59 – Gore 28
Dole 51 – Clinton 33
So, the McCain/Palin ticket in Alaska has managed so far to generate only slightly more interest than Bob Dole. Remember him? And that’s with our governor on the ticket! That’s not much in the way of bragging rights. As a matter of fact, I’m ready to call this a major psychological victory for Obama and the Democrats in Alaska. I feel quite comfortable, in my non-scientific way, to tell you that if Palin were not on the ticket, we’d have a horse race here, in the ruby-reddest-flaming-lobsterized- fire-engine-colored state you can imagine.
As an Alaskan, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the last two months with a metaphorical bag on my head, sinking down in my chair, but now I’m actually feeling a little proud of us. *satisfied sigh*
If the latest Palin debacles of wardrobe-gate, and travel-gate have any effect, and the race goes to a single digit spread, you’ll hear Democratic corks popping all over the state. That’s a landslide.
Go Alaska ~ Go Obama
A psychological victory is quite wonderful. Goodness knows, you deserve it.
You go ALASKA!!!
First?
AKM..I love spin. You just made me feel happy about an 11 point deficit I was a slight bit despondent about earlier. For that I thank you.
Landslide! I just love that word!
I understand the bag over your head syndrome. I’m in Ohio and with all the job losses, etc. that our state faces…it’s still a toss up with McCain leanings. My “right to lifer” boss is sending me all the nasty stuff that comes out about Obama on my e mail address and I’m just sinking farther and farther into my chair. Hey….I’ll take an Alaskan friend’s advise and go to the democratic headquarters tonight and ask them what they’d like to eat. Then make a grocery run! That might perk me up. Way to go Alaska! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a lot of people changed their minds in the booth and the state went to Obama!
Obama/Biden 2008 theme song…”Oh Yaaaaaaaah!
Louis Armstrong…love this song!
And, AKM – you should feel mighty satisfied! You had a huge role in making this happen! Thank you.
Beautiful! Nifty logo, too.
I know landslide sounds good but we have to keep working like we’re ten points down.
Happy dance ! Happy dance! If Obama went up there how close would it be?
Regarding Palin’s $150k wardrobe and makeover:
I am starting to think Obama’s numbers are going to improve more before the election. I follow along in the Fairbanks News miner blogs at times and when the article about the issue of Palin’s travel expenses paid by Alaska and I was amazed at all the backlash of anti Palin posts on there. It was literally 10 to 1 against her. This has changed drastically from just a few weeks ago when she could do no wrong.
3rd works!
My 19 yr old daughter and her two not quite 18 yr old friends went to the rally in Richmond, VA (formerly red VA) – our coliseum holds 13000, there were over 7000 that were left standing in the streets —- Obama being the guy he is, took the time to speak to those outside before going inside for his stump speach. The girls told me the turnout was about 50/50 for blacks and whites (Richmond is about 70% black, so lots of whites came in from the burbs). That’s sayin’ a whole lot for this area, also. Only about 20 visible protesters outside! Virginia has turned the most beautiful shade of blue!
Kentucky is getting closer too!
http://www.pollster.com/blogs/ky_mccain_52_obama_44_rasmusse.php
I agree and made note of this with some of my friends recently. While it is still a very long shot of Obama taking the state I think that the campaign will do better than expected and that is a victory in and of itself. In Juneau I only know of a handful of people that are voting McCain. Yes, Juneau is the blue part of the state and it is no secret that Palin has little love for Juneau but still… I think that all those electoral maps should revise their maps to show Alaska as “leaning McCain”!
Wow. Just wow. Also.
Keep up the good work, Mudflatters. We are in the home stretch! No letting up now! Sarah Palin’s career needs to be buried in that red leather jacket!
Chris Matthews’ segment with Nancy Pf… is posted on Daily Kos. I’m listening to it now and it’s hilarious.
Palin Tells Dobson That “Prayer Warriors” Should Ask God To Intervene In US Election For GOP
In an interview posted online Wednesday, Sarah Palin told Dr. James Dobson of “Focus on the Family” that she is confident God will do “the right thing for America” on Nov. 4.
…
She also thanked her supporters — including Dobson, who said he and his wife were asking “for God’s intervention” on election day — for their prayers of support.

I know you guys can do it…wouldn’t it be wonderful if Alaska AND Texas went blue?
Well, this Prayer Warrior has already asked God to intervene in the US Election for Obama!
Did anyone catch Chuck Todd and Bryant Williams on Hardball talking about the interview airing tonight w/ Palin and McCain? I caught the tale end of it… but I heard Todd say something to the effect that he senses some major tension going on between them. He also said that Williams asked Palin if she would release her medical records and she said “yes”. Todd then said that the campaign handlers clearly were taken by surprise by that.
You go Alaska….
Maybe the “Palin effect” will kick in behind that voting booth curtain….aahhh yes, I can see it now –

They have Obama at 364 EV VS mccain at 174 EV
Here’s hoping this will be the nail in the coffin:

No chemistry? How ’bout no brains, either?
My post did not show up?
I have a question for the Alaskans on this board.
It has been said tonight and in the past that Gov Palin presides over 24,000 employees as governor and I think the entire population is about 650,000. That means that one in every 27 people in the state works for the government. If you filter out those that are too young to be working and those that are too old to be working and those who are unemployed or choose not to work, the percentage is far higher. Can this possibly be true in a sate where oil is king?
SoCal Gal (14:16:04) :
Thank you so much for that video. That is my favorite song. It reminds me of my wonderful grandmother and it is the song that my father and I danced to at my wedding. It is just beautiful. I have always wanted to make a YouTube video with clips of Obama and Biden set to that song, but I lack the skill and know-how. Thank you for making my night!
Sara in MO
http://www.intrade.com/ has some good election predictions.
I think you’ll be able to feel an even greater sense of pride when Sarah returns to Alaska and the number of investigations into her bizarre conduct increases.
Could very well be that, sometime in late February, we’ll hear Sarah announce that, although she hates to leave all of her good friends and supporters in Alaska, doncha know, she is resigning her office in order to accept a position with Fox News so that she can better serve the cause of small-town, real-American, main-street conservatism by maverickly fighting the socialists in Washington. (And, of course, a Fox News salary will enable her to afford to pay her legal bills and the Nieman-Marcus charges that will no longer be covered by the RNC).

A few threads ago it was mentioned that the Teach Obama Sign was getting harrassing calls & threats — so they pulled the plug
Sad state of our country isnt it? ;(
@JBDC (14:29:50) :
A few days in the blog and forum there was news that after the signwatch went on the national news they started getting harrassing calls so have gone off-line, at least for the time being. I think if you look around on the Forum there’s more info available.
A little more outreach into rural areas would really help. Mudflats does this the best for those with computers. Letters to editors rural newspapers best for others. Please help!
Do you think what they are saying about young voters who only have cells and are not being included in regular polling could also change things? I have enough friends in red states that only have cells to know it is true at least that they are not being called and are being counted. I hope the young vote in Alaska has a huge showing. It would be so awesome if the numbers for Obama were actually even higher than that in Alaska!! The day I saw the first rally you guys held I bought an Alaska for Obama shirt from his website. I live in chicago but that shirt warms my heart!
I heard Obama is actually going to take on Arizona! I’ve been reading Arizona newspapers the past couple months and McCain really has a lot of people against him there. It would be so amazing if Obama took Arizona. It would make up (in my mind) for Bush taking Gore’s home state of Tenn in 2008. I’m so impressed with people EVERYWHERE for all the work that is going into informing people this year about getting out the vote and knowing the facts on issues. Two more weeks!!!
Things looking dicey in these states right now. Help there also–write those letters!
Florida, Ohio, Nevada, North Carolina, Missouri
Just a little outreach to rural communities, please. Letters to editors.
I was just on Green 960FM in San Francisco. I was discussing Sarah Palin’s
” wardrobe malfunction” and its obscenity as to its expense especially in light of the financial crisis. Not to mention the hypocracy in light of her RNC speech that she would cut government excess spending. Her charges to the State of Alaska for her children’s travel expenses was also mentioned.
I had a chance to plug Mudflats several times and give out the website info as well as mention our beloved AKM who is our ” citizen on the ground in Wasilla who is paying attention”. I hope Alaskans knows that all of the country is sorry that we working hard to send Palin back to your state as Governor rather than a heartbeat away from TPOTUS.
Let us know if those of us in the lower 48 can help with a recall drive so that Alaska can be rid of Palin-itis for good.
AKM thank you for bringing us the real truth about Palin long before the MSM caught on.
I hereby name AKM our ” Ambassador of Truth.”
Wow! Thanks! 😀 AKM

I live in AZ and I hope Obama can pull it off. There are a lot of people
who are “cell only” not being counted. Also people are well aware of the
keating 5 issue. Driving around I have only seen 1 mccain sticker and
at least 10 Obama stickers. One guy I know said he voted for mccain
because he read that Obama was going to take everyones guns away.
I asked him if he knew anything about SP and what a poor pick she was
he had no clue. Yikes!!
Redgoddess, I think Palin has no love for Juneau because she could never get a tan here. That’s probably the real reason the legislators had to run around with “where’s Sarah?’ signs on. Plus, it’s hard to be a beauty queen when you have a rainhood on, and those high heels don’t take well to deep freezing puddles, nor to the slush in winter. : ) Juneau gives S.P. nightmares I’m sure.
A more serious question: AKM, or anyone, do we know if Alaska is in good hands this year as far as ensuring the election isn’t rigged? After all, we’ve found out many interesting things about our fearsome leader that we didn’t know before. I’d really like to know if those Obama votes will count, at least I’m praying they will. Funny how S.P. types don’t count on just as many prayers for Obama. : )
We had some major problems in 2004 that never got resolved…precincts showing a turnout of over 200%, and evidence of tampering after data was tabulated. They have never been resolved to my knowldedge. Lt. Gov. Loren Lehman was the culprit at the time. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell now heads up the division of elections. >:-( AKM

**VERY TELLING ANALYSIS OF McCAIN/PALIN INTERVIEW
Proud to be part of that 42.
I can only imagine that much has been said about the wardrobe costs of SWWNBN. Actually, I think she might like being called “Caribou Barbie” and getting dressed up and stuff.
A counter-point, in case you missed it, Barack’s shoes. Made me cry.

A landslide by any other name would smell as sweet. WTG AKM.
BTW, _when_ are Palin’s medical records being released? Surely the “gotcha” interviewer followed up with the all important “when” question. Hope, hope.
End the End Times “Funny how S.P. types don’t count on just as many prayers for Obama. ”
All over the world.
I got a message from the Austin Statesman-Intelligencer asking for verification of my identity this week. You’re welcome, Texas.
Remember, even if your letter doesn’t get printed, an editor somewhere who has influence over stories, endorsements, and opinion pieces is reading your letter.

@End the End Times (15:05:52) :
Yeah, ’cause there’s NO snow or slush in Anchorage and Wasilla in the winter, and being so much further north there’s SO much more sun in the winter… She put a tanning bed in the Mansion for crying out loud! Although, as we know from the 5 (or 6) colleges in 6 years to get a degree story, she actually never enrolled in the first college she was supposedly going to go to in Hawai’i, because it RAINED too much in Hilo. Hm, why in the blazes did she then run for a job that is BASED in a city in the rain forest? Can we say ego?!?
As for our elections, although there is a Director of the Division of Elections, the overall responsibility for elections is held by our Lt. Gov., yup, the one elected with Sarah as the state’s #2 person in charge (not counting the First Dud, of course). Who knows how safe things are, but our elections “tend” to run well here (optical scan ballots so there IS a paper trail in case of emergency).
I posted this on the last thread, and though I don’t like to do it, I will put it here, too, because also, I think it should be read, too. Totally worth it. Go SETH!

We can only hope people realize she’s a pretty unreal Alaskan, one who is simply skimming the gravy off our hard-earned Alaskan mystique to mix with her varnished nonsense.
(And yes, some Alaskans do sell varnished moose turds, also.)”

Cynthia Texas,
I don’t suppose Dobson and Sarah would even remotely consider that God is already telling them who he has picked to lead this country? Things that make you go Hmmmmm
Pretty bad when God snubs you! Makes me wonder what is on his list for her to answer to….
MATTHEWS: “It is so obvious to everyone watching that you are changing the subject.”
It’s gonna take more than one interview for me to regain much respect for Chris Matthews, but this one was a start.
Well Muckraker I voted yesterday in midtown. And I voted like my vote was going to change history.
And you know what? If enough of us vote with the confidence that our vote will make a REAL difference then by God it just might!
I cannot tell you how great I felt for the rest of the day after casting that vote.
From now on I am going to be absolutely confident that Obama will win Alaska until the polls are closed on November 4th.
Just think if Palin/McCain ends up with a smaller percentage of the vote than Bob Dole. Even some AK Republicans might come to question her invulnerability.
*sigh* Just imagine the headlines….
“Obama wins ALASKA! More traditionally red states to follow!!”
wow…get your hankies out.

I gotta say, Bernie Sanders, the Independent from Vermont is a cracker! He’s independent, but he has a lot of democratic views. I’m watching him on Bill Maher’s “Real Time”, and he’s a hoot. I wouldn’t mind seeing him participate in an Obama Cabinet (if he wins).
P.S. If Alaska red dips under fifty percent, I say we all do the happy dance!
Hey if Lawyerbird is one of the 42, then we is in good hands.

Speck Backfire – I’m with you on that. Chris Matthews may be popular among many, but I find him to be too condescending to be palatable.
btw, Dole was a better candidate and is a better man than McCain. Dole also is a bit more humble than McCain, although his admission that he needs viagra was a bit too much info.
Well Muckraker I voted yesterday in midtown. And I voted like my vote was going to change history.

I voted in midtown Monday morning, and I felt the same way as you. Encourage everyone you know. Dobson forgets that God does not want his name used in vain. May a thunderbolt strike him from his Tammy Fae’esque pedestal !!
Well, you positive thinkers for Alaska are cheering me up quite a bit.
But, AKM, I never realized we ever had a problem with our elections to that extent. I’m surprised Knowles (or someone) never looked into it.
@Lurker “That One” Hussein Palin– I hear you. HEART/OBAMA and his
family and esp. Grandma right now.
@sauerkraut aka Palin Pity Party, well I can’t tell you how to do your dance, but mine MIGHT involve running around the neighborhood and laughing in the Republicans’ faces.
Actually, if Alaska goes at all blue-ish, I think I will be too stunned to do anything but sigh.
Actually, AKM, I think you have a horserace BECAUSE of Palin. I think it is her presence on the ticket that is bringing down McCain’s numbers in your state.
Lana, KY (14:11:23) :
Go Alaska ~ Go Obama
There’s a battle royal going on in Kentucky, too. 😉
No worries Alaskan friends….it will be a Landslide….across the country. I don’t think McCain really fathoms what is going to hit him like a brick on Election day 🙂
So many states have turned blue down here in the lower 48….I am so excited!!! I can’t wait until the votes are all tallied and Obama is declared the LANDSLIDE winner!!
The only other thing I can hope is that Palin is removed from her Governor’s position when she returns to Alaska. That way there isn’t a chance in the world that she will appear on the ticket ever again!!
Go Obama!!

Those of you who may have been depressed by the AP poll released early today may find this article interesting.
New flawed AP poll claims McCain and Obama are tied.
The Associated Press has released a poll that shows a much closer race than any other poll out there. Now, Liz “I know what kind of donuts John McCain really likes” Sidoti must have been gleeful that she was chosen to write John McCain’s “comeback” piece.
But, the poll doesn’t make sense on many levels. Here’s one example: 45% of this poll’s respondents are evangelicals or born-again Christians.
The problem? In 2004, evangelicals/born-again Christians made up 23% of voters. But that same group makes up 44% of likely voters in AP’s poll released today. That’s almost double the number – it’s totally implausible.
In 2000 and 2004, there was a very aggressive push for the evangelical vote. In 2000, when the question was asked “Do you consider yourself part of the conservative Christian political movement,” 14% of voters said “yes” in exit polls. In 2004, when the question was changed to “Would you describe yourself as a born-again or evangelical Christian?” – the very category AP uses in its current poll – 23% of voters said yes in exit polls.
Did you get that? The percentage of evangelicals/born-agains voting in 2004 was 23%. The percentage of evangelicals/born-agains that AP included in their likely voters scenario is 44%. That’s almost twice as many. Consider that 79% of evangelicals voted Republican in the 2004 presidential elections, and we can assume that anyone calling themselves “born-again” might be more prone to voter Republican. This means AP disproportionately skewed its polling towards the GOP base. So it’s no surprise that the AP poll shows McCain doing better than in other polls.
With such an outlier, one wonders why the brain trust at AP decided to move ahead releasing this poll. But, the AP brain trust loves McCain. It’s not just Sidoti. Remember, AP’s Washington bureau chief almost went to work for McCain.
An even more encouraging sign is that according to CQ Politics the Alaska US House and Senate race are both leaning Obama!

@End the End Times (16:04:45) :
That’s right, I’d forgotten that there were issues with the 2004 elections. That was AFTER Tony was no longer Gov. and was the year he was running against Lisa M. for the US Senate seat. He was in no position to do anything about it, and Leman was Frank M.’s Lt. Gov. I’m sure they didn’t look into anything because it might have shown that Lisa didn’t really win that seat… Hopefully things will go better this time around!
I wonder how much the RNC paid out for the jersey that Piper was wearing at the Flyers game a couple weeks ago.

I have spoken with many of my friends and neighbors about this election. As Alaskans we are all disgusted with Sarah Palin. We are embarrassed by her. We’re grateful that McCain chose her so that we could benefit from the liberal elite media’s coverage of her ineptitude and numerous gaffes. None of us have been interviewed by the polls, but, if we were to be polled, that division between McCain and Obama would be in the double digits (in Obama’s favor). As far as we are concerned, a vote for Obama means a vote against Sarah. It will send Sarah a message. I’m in a tax bracket where I will feel President Obama’s pinch, but that’s OK, because I’d rather pay taxes than suffer nuclear fallout.
Haven’t read any of the responses yet… AKM, you wrote: “As an Alaskan, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the last two months with a metaphorical bag on my head, sinking down in my chair, but now I’m actually feeling a little proud of us. *satisfied sigh*”
I hope you realize that YOU and this blog have been a major driver in driving these numbers? :o) Bringing pocket-Alaskan facts out into the open, making people in Alaska and the US and the world see and understand more clearly what’s what, that’s a major bag-buster. Also. You betcha. Like, thank you :o)
Thanks to BobbyG about the FEC illegality of converting campaign contributions. (Rub hands together.)
Thanks to Coyote: Santa Claus there is a Virginia . . . and it’s Blue. (Hold palms together in prayer.)
Congrats to all Alaskans; how humiliating for the Princess. JM should lead by 30 points at least. (Cover mouth to cover grinning like a possum.)

I was a 15 year resident of Alaska and now live in Maine — I too have been keeping that paper bag handy to pull over my head lately when friends ask me, WFT, over?? I hope that maybe, maybe as karion suggests, Palin has become such an embarrassment to all Alaskans as to push the ticket numbers downwards in her own home state. I’ve had to do a lot of explaining, but it’s a lot easier now that I can send them to this website!
Today, I had the misfortune of listening to Dan Fagan on his radio show. The topic was the $150,000 spent on the Palin wardrobe. He and his listeners did not see anything wrong with the RNC spending money to make Sarah look “fancy”. I don’t have a problem with the RNC spending money to upgrade Sarah’s wardrobe. She is running for the VP slot, and she needs to look polished and professional. What I have a hard time with is the amount of money spent. I am a clothes horse. I own shoes that sold at Neiman Marcus for over $700 a pair. (I am a cheapskate, and paid nowhere near that price for my shoes). My point is; Even if I tried really, really hard, I would have a tough time spending $75,000 in one afternoon at Neiman’s. I’ve seen Sarah in the same jackets and suits for a month now. She didn’t buy a new outfit for everyday. I read in some blogpost that one of the invoices was for thongs. $1500 worth of Thongs—would this be for underwear or flip flops? If her shoes cost $700, and her suit cost $3000, that’s only $3700. I’ve seen at most ten different outfits. That’s only $37,000! If she has to pay taxes on these items, then she’s in real trouble, because $150,000 at 35% is a helluva lot of money, especially for a woman who only makes $125,000 a year.
It is a well known fact that she shopped at the downtown consignment store ‘Out of the Closet’ ( an interesting play on words when associated with Sarah and her stand on gays). I will be watching that store very closely to see if they are the beneficiary of her largesse. The campaign said her wardrobe would be donated to a charity after the election….we’ll see.
If she can amend her kids’ travel statements, she’ll find a way to hang onto that Louis Vuitton purse and those Chanel pumps!
More hankie pankie from an early voter in ID.:
“For me the most moving moment came when the family in front of me, comprising probably 4 generations of voters (including an 18 year old girl voting for her first time and a 90-something hunched-over grandmother), got their turn to vote. When the old woman left the voting booth she made it about halfway to the door before collapsing in a nearby chair, where she began weeping uncontrollably. When we rushed over to help we realized that she wasn’t in trouble at all but she had not truly believed, until she left the booth, that she would ever live long enough to cast a vote for an African-American for president.”

Okay – I was wishing Obama was leading up here in Alaska when I was typing. My wishful thinking our Alaska electorial votes will go toward Obama – maybe it will be a reality since the election is still over a week away. 🙂
According to CQ Politics the Alaska US House and Senate race are both leaning Democrat! Looks like Uncle Ted and Young may be retiring soon!

I read the Seth Kanter article and it was great. I used to live in Kodiak and my boys were born there as was I, my father and grandfather so a fairly long history of Alaskanism (sp?) and Sarah Palin is an insult to the people who live there. Like many other folks have said, it’s like a sign went up when she became governor -Alaska – For Sale to the Highest Bidder – no worries about meeting environmental standards, or protecting the wildlife. Oops, sorry to go on my favorite rave – I actually wanted to post a link to this great cartoon that I thought most of you would enjoy!!

Pat Buchanan about having a coronary on Rachel’s show. Get the paramedics.
That Ben Smith story and all the comments attached to it brought me to tears. Won’t it just be WONderful to see Barack Obama win this election in a Landslide?

Pat Buchanan about having a coronary on Rachel’s show. Get the paramedics.
I just emailed Rachel why he is on the show?
rachel@msnbc.com
Gotta love Joe Biden. He does make statements that the Repugs love to run with. But the fact is, Joe Lieberman said the same thing about McCain going to be tested in his presidency (and that he would be able to withstand the test) as Joe B said about Obama. But of course, Buchanan says it isn’t the same thing. In wrestling terms, I’d say Rachel pinned him. But Pat always bounces back like a rubber ball. Oiy
JAK – Rachel gets a charge out of Pat. I think she likes it. He is MSNBC’s token conservative, so he gets to speak. It will be interesting if they are going to keep using him after the elections though. He has had a number of occasions where it got ridiculous.
I assume he boosts ratings — we all like a bit of the side show!
Interesting commenting by NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd of a joint interview by McCain/Palin with Brian Williams of NBC to be aired over 3 nights, I gather on his news show.
“The interview, Williams said, would air over the course of three days. And some actual news – beyond the body language – was drawn from the proceedings: Palin, apparently to her own staff’s surprise, promised to release her medical records. ”
As medical records are not a legal requirement to be provided, should there be anything (wink, wink!!) you know they will be sanitized. Alternatively, what may possibly be added in!!!

SORT OF OFF TOPIC BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON WITH TROOPERGATE, WEREN’T SARH AND THE FIRST DUDE DUE TO BE INTERVIEWED….CURIOUS???? THANKS FOR THE UPDATES
JAK — some days, I don’t think I could survive watching election news on TV without my MUTE button. I instantly grab it for Palin, now McCain, often Buchanan, and several others. Unless I think I’m going to hear something “special.” I definitely left the sound on for every single word of Michele Bachmann’s Hardball appearance.
Bec – Yes, I now have a respect for MUTE too.

Diana – last I heard – First Dude is being interviewed (or a depostion taken – I heard it will be under oath) on Friday – I think in Alaska. Sarah is doing the same, but at an undisclosed location (I’m assuming on the campaign trail).

McCain and Palin Inciting Violence in North Carolina
Forced to defend what should be reliable red state turf, John McCain and Sarah Palin finally showed up in North Carolina over the past few weeks. So far in October, the GOP running mates have appeared at four campaign rallies here. And in the wake of their visits, a string of election season crimes have occurred around the state involving violence, vandalism, and harassment.
Excerpts:
First, a reporter was assaulted at a Palin rally held last Thursday at Elon College. Greenboro News & Record reporter Joe Killian was kicked to the ground by a Palin supporter….
An MSNBC sound technician was hit in the head by a rock thrown by another Palin supporter at this same rally….
Next, over the weekend, about 30 Obama supporters had their tires slashed while attending an Obama rally that attracted an overflow crowd of more than 10,000 at the Fayetteville Crown Coliseum….
After the rally finished, a mob of white McCain-Palin supporters jeered and harassed a steady stream of mostly black Fayetteville residents standing in line to vote early at the downtown Board of Elections office….
And this Monday, a black bear cub was killed and left at the entrance to Western North Carolina University in Cullowee, N.C., with Obama campaign signs wrapped around its body, including two taped together over its head….
These incidents have all been perpetrated by or linked to McCain supporters, and stirred up by McCain and Palin’s angry, hateful campaign rhetoric….
*****
Has everyone noticed how snarky McCain surrogates have become?
Also.
Anyone see George Allen with David Gregory or the apopletic fit thrown by Orrin Hatch with Andrea Mitchell this afternoon.
Dance of joy.
Anderson reporting SPs deposition Friday which we knew yesterday or day before. As I said then: undisclosed location; more Cheney in a skirt.
Dragon – what have they got left but snarkiness? Nancy P is the best at it. I’m loving it. They have their story and they are stickin’ to it!
Diana,
Both Todd & SP’s depositions should be taking place on Friday in probably St. Louis.
That’s good news. Guess Alaskans are finally seeing Palin for who she really is. I wonder what she’s going to do with that big city wardrobe when she goes back home to Alaska?
That’s awesome. I cannot wait for Obama to win and Palin to return to Alaska . . . and never see the light of day again. I can’t believe she was elected, even in Alaska.
supposedly she’s not allowed to keep the wardrobe…it belongs to the RNC….yeah, right……………..let’s wait and see
Oh that Nancy Pfotenhauer. It’s my 78 year old mother who calls her a bobble head doll. Matthews skewered her tonight.
I get him at 5 and 7 EST. I actually taped the 7pm rebroadcast because I have wanted her to get hers for a long time. Did likewise last night when he had finally had enough of Palin’s utter stupidity. He knows it and so do we all.
McCain is trying to bring out Names, like Hatch. But George Allen? Allen lost over his macaca comment! Hm. Think about John.
Dragon Lady, I saw Orrin Hatch with Andrea. They are all getting worried since McCain’s pathetic campaign is threatening Repugs all the way down the ticket in every state. So much for coat tails.
I have been saying this all along
ALASKA turn blue turn blue turn blue
some one once told me ..if you SEE it ,,,,,,,it can happen ……..I have been seeing it…..yup you betcha
I am sooooo proud of all of you…………more dirt will come out
Did you all see Chuck Todd’s comments about the McCain/Palin interview with Brian Williams? He said there was no chemistry between them at all. In fact, he said it was as if NBC had just found two random people on the street and asked them to sit down beside each other for an interview.
Brian Williams asked her what she means by “preconditions?” Of course, her answer didn’t address the question. Brian Williams said on Hardball that he didn’t think her answer had “advanced the ball.”
I’m trying to sit patiently through the dial-up version of the Pfotenhauer video… what IS with her eyes? She looks like she’s either dropping off to sleep or trying to make like Marlene Dietrich!
Anyone know of one website that lists all print media Obama endorsements with direct links?

Go and read the articles in Rolling Stone. It will give you the hsitory of McWeasel’s military career. Its very shameful.
Irish – I had not thought about younger Cuban voters. Interesting.
Sauer – too true. I am constantly amazed at McCain running on the POW theme when he himself admits he’d done anything for medical treatment.
Second – to make much of refusing early release when that is against the military code of conduct. No one Ever calls him out on this. Why?
And finally as you say – you get credit for being tested when you sit in an airplane? And no one mentions how many planes you crashed?
Old territory I know; the phoniness of it all just slays me.

His references to being tested — Nam and Cuban Missile — are so old school, but people buy it. Even with Iraq — he’s visited under mega security with media to where he hasn’t seen it. He knows the war more from sitting in the White House, talking with the Generals — that’s not experience. He would vote, make recommendations, etc., but he wasn’t the President and if I understand correctly, he doesn’t sit in the high security meetings with the Generals, President, etc.
He also would not understand how to fight with new technology today. If he can’t do email — how would he go high tech, satellite, etc.

To see the Huff post titled “Is John McCain Starting To Blame Her For Things?” on the homepage — I can only shake my head. When you lookat it, if it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t have the base. Even if they were forcing him into picking her, he had a mouth and could have said no. If he picked Lieberman, he would have lost probably Davis et al — but in the end — it’s his choice. Hire different campaign workers as he did before. Cindy said in an interview that she liked & wanted Palin and had talked to her a number of times (BS!).
He has no one to blame but himself but typical won’t accept responsibility. There is no way Obama would offer him a position except I might suggest Ambassador to Siberia!! He could keep his eye on Putin from a different angle than Palin!!! The cold would do his braincells good if there are any!!!

Hi Bec-
I’ve decided I’m with you on the rally. I’ll look for a daytime event. But, a get together would be fabulous!
So, I voted today! I heard Richard Steele on Chicago Public Radio say that it took him an hour to early vote and I got a bit worried. So, I went down to the polling place (my library). It did not take me an hour, but the place was jammed! Lines in front and behind me-I made the right choice-well, 2 right choices.
I will say the poll workers were pleasant and professional working out some name glitches-from what I picked up there have been a number of registration issues.
But, I’m done and feel so great about having voted!
Bev — this election is really going to be a surprise on November 4 (LATE on Nov. 4th!) I think those in your situation could create a tremendous surprise – hopefully in favor of Obama. Can’t wait. I really don’t think it could go to McCain. They just aren’t getting the new voters in most states. Some states new voters are at least double for Dems. With the cell phones and the old methods of polling still being used, it could totally be out of whack.
A good site to keep tabs on is http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/
It is the brainchild of Nate Silver, a young Chicago stats geek – who has a baseball stats business and has applied it to politics. Now I know from my sports stats hobbyist son (nuts with all his friends in the fantasy sports leagues) that stats are big business these days and Nate knows his stuff. I was pleased to see that he debunked that rather alarming new AP poll that says Obama and McCain are just one point apart. Whew. I was worried all night until I found that.
I’m originally a Buckeye myself. Here’s hoping Ohio turns BLUE – fair and square and every vote counted this year.

Carol – I voted today, too! I wrote on the previous thread about it. I actually started to cry as I voted for Obama-Biden! Then I got in my car and John Mellencamp’s song Little Pink Houses was on my car radio – Ain’t That America. I was crying again. Just a great moment.
I’m in Kane County – and was able to vote at my City Hall. Just 5 ahead of me – but the guy behind me was the last one for the day — they go until 4:30 PM. We have those turn the dial and hit enter machines. I was very careful.
I voted against the constitutional convention, too. My husband is in education and they have come out strongly against that.
Canadian — I read that article, too. I think after Troopergate is settled, there is surely going to be IncomeTaxGate for the Palins!

I should have asked you about the Con Con. I see there are both sides and in the end thought why shouldn’t we explore this further? But, I had no one to ask who really knew much about this. And, it seemed through my googling that this was a positive thing. So, no??
I missed your previous thread-I was walking along the lakefront, taking pictures and, apparently, developing this cold which has made my nose raw. But, this is vacation week and I’m still going to the Zoo and Conservatory tomorrow, no matter what.

@Tom from PA (14:51:08) :
Don’t know if you will see this or not since it has been awhile since your post but concerning your question on the number of Alaskans in the state government that is correct. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Alaska has 23,879 wage and salary employees in the state government. Government is our largest sector but to explain it is funded by the oil sector as we do not have a state income tax. Alaska only has slightly over 10,500 workers in the oil and gas sector. Hard to believe but true. In a upcoming political economy book chapter I outline the many myths and realities of the Alaskan economy. It was fascinating research as I have only been in Alaska for a little over 2 years.
Also, I wanted to clarify on my name, I have never ever thought about it but the color red now currently has a different meaning. I am a redhead not a red voter! Just wanted to clarify : )

Kinda backhanded compliment at the end of the story, doncha think?
I have looked, but I can’t find that great logo anywhere or on anything to buy. Can anybody help me out here?
I find it absolutely amazing that Palin was ever elected as anything. What is going on up there?
Ha! Alaska (if you’ll pardon the phrase) “ain’t got nothin’ on Alabama” regarding poll numbers and who is the red of red states. I live in Kentucky and we are not much better than good old Forest Gump land so I sympathize living in the blue city of a red state (Louisville). We are trying to oust Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell down here and just might pull it off, polls have him tied with challenger Bruce Lunsford and that is bad, bad news for McSleeze boy. He’s our Ted Stevens. Go to http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com for latest polls state by state. Check out Alabama….makes Alaska look downright blue as the autumn sky.
I think we will all be suprised one way or the other when the results finally do come in. Unless there is some kind of (God forbid) horrible cheating…Obama will win hands down and even red states will blush blue even if not over the top. Of course I could be wrong, I thought Gore was a no brainer over Bush in 2000 but hey, I went to college and had no desire to have a beer with W. If we blow this and McCain wins, the US is so doomed. That would suck!
Really enjoying your website and truly hoping that all of AK will come to your side in the next 10 days! I was just reading an article regarding McCain’s relatives in Mississippi and his denial of them… anyway, the article spoke of an Arizona governor who was impeached for campaigne finance wrongdoings! Perhaps there is a shot of impeaching this good for nothing SP! Following is an excerpt from the article:
Mecham was the governor in McCain’s home state of Arizona from January 1987 to April 1988, when he was impeached and removed from office for campaign finance violations. As a state senator and governor, Mecham publicly used racial slurs against black people and other minorities. He was also a member of the John Birch Society, which opposes civil rights legislation. In 1986, Mecham campaigned for governor on a promise to rescind the state’s recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, which he did in 1987.
Earlier this year, during the 40th anniversary recognition of King’s assassination, McCain, by this time a presidential candidate, said he was wrong for opposing the national King holiday.
Politics in America has long been steeped in the dynamics of the country’s myriad cultures, diverse ethnicities, and varying religious beliefs. Several of Sen. McCain’s black relatives say Obama’s candidacy represents progress.
“He is denying his black and white relatives in Teoc,” said Joyce McCain, 54. “I think he may not want the country to know his family’s full history, but times have changed and we need to move on, and that’s why I’m supporting Obama.”

Good luck to you all in AK from Delphinia in Illinois!
OBAMA 2008
I just hope Obama/Biden ends up winning in Alaska, that’ll really embarrass Ms. Palin to loose to her own state.
I’m from California and I am so jealous that some of you from different state are already getting to vote. I just can’t wait until the day comes to Nov 4th when I get my chance in the booth to cast my vote for Obama/Biden.
I don’t know if some of you seen the movie “The Express” which is based on a true story about the first African American to play college football and won the Heismann trophy award. But anyways, there were several scenes in the movie that showed white supremist and rednecks who hated blacks during those times didn’t like the fact that this black college kid that was playing football was coming to play in their terratory side of the field. When being tackled down the defense team would kick him down and punch him down. Well, during those parts I wanted so badly to shout out in the movie theatre, “VOTE OBAMA!” But I chose not to because I was afraid I might get my butt kicked by a McCain/Palin supporter afterwards.
Well hope you guys get my point here. Sometimes hate in this country make you so angry that it just motivates you to want to make a stand and make a difference. And by doing so it encourages you to support a candidate you know can bring this country together instead of dividing this nation with incites of hate and racial slurs. A candidate who can make a change not just in policies but in a way that finally for the first time maybe some pple will stop being racist and bigots and start seeing this nation as a whole. So when I hear McCain/Palin inciting hate to their supporters at rallies, it reminds me of movies about the old days where bad leaders incite crowds of pple the word of hate and race. I always get worked up in movies like that with white supremist and kkks hating on African Americans back in the days.
I am praying for Obamas’ Grandmother. Please Dear Lord let this woman live to see her Grandbaby sworn in as The President of the United States of America. Thank you
[…] it before and I’ll say it again, if Obama-Biden loses in Alaska by single digits, it is a LANDSLIDE victory. Remember […]
