Good night AKM (Brian and Brenda)

Thank you for everything … you’ve been a very busy AKM today.

“I’m not the first male spouse that’s been called ‘first dude,’ ” Palin responded. “The gentleman from Kansas who’s a judge, he’s got that title.”

Off to bed, but another favourite clip here, which I’ve not seen in recent comments (not that I’ve had time to read them all!). Campbell Brown, who so excellently called out Tucker Bounds for pretending that Palin had foreign policy experience, and asked the McCain campaign to set Palin free from their sexist sheltering of her, is back with another great one here. This time she asks, more forcefully than I’ve heard anyone else do lately, how it is that no one seems to be questioning the use of “Muslim” and “Arab” as slurs, which impugns all peace-loving Muslims and Arabs, millions of whom are American citizens and residents, nevermind the rest of the world. There’s hope for the MSM! Or at least a slice of it…

Thank you for palinaspresident; it was a nice start to the day.
I always thought Campbell Brown was too good for NBC. Of course, the Today Show used to actually feature some news, WAY back when. Now it’s more like Entertainment Tonight, albeit pretending to be serious–though the pretense only lasts through the first 30 minutes. Then it’s nothing but fluff.
Where In The World is … something resembling actual news?

I regret that I will be unable to join y’all tonight for the debate. I will be at the theatre, where I volunteer one night of each feature. I feel incredibly disciplined that I didn’t look for a reason to get out of it, so I could huddle by my computer tonight–one eye on the TV, the other on the mudpups scrolling messages at an incredible rate… But I’ll be loggin’ in ASAP after I get home, you betcha!

By the way, my house could use some work…nothing major. Todd? Sarah? Could you recommend someone I could call?

Goodnight, Brian and Brenda and AKM and all you mudflatters! Sleep well.

There seems to be a lot of buzz this morning about the very ugly Sarah Palin t-shirts showing up at Obama rallys. I hope we will all loudly decry these sexist t-shirt sayings as just plain wrong. Just because Sarah Palin does not have any ethical standards does not mean we should turn a blind eye. There are more than enough things we can say and print on a t-shirt that do not insult all women.

15 10 2008
Aussie Puck Mule Hussein

janet (04:17:21) :

For myself, the only time I any outrage was on Faux News – which could mean there was only ONE t-shirt.😉

If there is truly a rash of them, you can count on the Obama campaign to say what needs to be said.

I have yet to see footage, even pixilated.

McCain is toast.

This really brings up images of all that has been lost in this country in my lifetime. The hopes of youth that ended up in a vast field of corpses when it could have all been so different. Where is reason now in the hearts of the American people? Where is steeled discipline to reason together and think and face what must be faced in the our lives and the life of the world? Where are the angels of our better nature? We must manifest these things now. We must manifest them like never before in the history of our nation.

This is the greatest election since 1932.

This is all of us together on November 4th, 2008.

I will go in the landing crafts with any of you on this Blog.

We must take our country back from spiritual death.

The devil me wants me to said excatly that [McCain using C word for his wife] but then I realized we are better than that ..dammit…Yes, Obama should just tell in the first rally that comes up that any kind of derogatory remarks towards any women is actually the insult to the womanhood , to our own mothers/sisters/daughters..

And Yes, I did see picture of that t-shirt mentioned..Its not preety and I really felt bad after seeing them but if you are really so inclined to see it

Well just caught up on the other blog posted last night. I say go officer Wooten and Mr. Monegan! It is about time someone takes them to court for their slanderous ways. I am starting to think that line may get very long before this is all said and done.

I have not seen or heard anything about Palin t-shirts. Though it was bound to happen. When you spread hate eventually it will bring out more hate. Why people don’t get this has always been beyond my understanding.

I think it KO is on-target w/ last night’s comments about Mc/P’s campaign being dangerous. I too cheered KO– but it also gave me goosebumps. This is the 21st century and the level of hatred and bigotry scares me. I’m sure we all appreciate your concern, and thank you. As you are probably aware, there are only a couple of news services in the whole world these days, and the media will slavishly pick anything up if it works for them.

Who is the World of WOW? It’s some funky American site that I can’t get a handle on. All the t-shirts are the same. They are not Obama people at all – to wit: the two photographs that I’ve seen are just people posing in the shirts; there is no evidence of them turning up anywhere supporting anything Obama.

Is it possible that Faux News found one of these pics and (naturally, for them) put them out there as ‘Obama supporters wearing obscene t-shirts’?

15 10 2008
eajphd Molten Contra Palin

Needless to say it would be better if people didn’t turn to insults, but unfortunately ugliness often begets ugliness and McCain and Palin seem to think that their base can only be the truly base part of the population. Hopefully we can raise the tenor of the campaign to a more civil level.

I’m taking a break from Palin tracking this morning to pass on something really inspirational. I’m calling it the Obama Factor. It’s the kids! Obama isn’t just getting young people to vote. He’s inspiring them to take school seriously and to go to college. I just read an article about Obama’s Philly rallies, and the many under-voting-age kids who are paying attention, talking about Obama in school, GOING to school, and talking about college. Woohoo!!! When was the last time we had a leader who could do THAT?

GO Obama!!

Loved the Palinaspresident site. The details were hilarious – the Science magazine in the trash, the empty diploma cases on the wall, the dinosaur walking by the window and all the oil rigs in the yard.

But what was the green thing that falls off the desk?

Did anyone see Ari Fleschman on the Daily Show last night? Whata tool! He was actually trying to justify Palin as a good pick. Stewart was hilarious debunking him.

I don’t think there is anyone left who counts in the Republican party who thinks Palin was a good pick. I’m sure McCain doesn’t even think she was a good pick anymore.

Maureen Dowd has a great column today wtih quotes from several Conservative columnists regarding Palin. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/15/opinion/15dowd.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Here’s a tidbit…

Christopher Hitchens endorsed Barack Obama on Slate on Monday, calling Palin’s conduct “a national disgrace” and writing: “Given the nasty and lowly task of stirring up the whack-job fringe of the party’s right wing and of recycling patent falsehoods about Obama’s position on Afghanistan, she has drawn upon the only talent that she apparently possesses.”

Hmmm, I need to go read Hitchens column too. I think he summed it up in a nutshell.

Much as I love Maureen Dowd, I still miss Molly Ivins who helped me retain a vestige of sanity during the long dark days of negotiating Texas politics.
Some of my favorite quotes remain pertinent: e.g.

“It’s like, duh. Just when you thought there wasn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the two parties, the Republicans go and prove you’re wrong.”

Advice to McCain:
“The first rule of holes: when you’re in one, stop digging.”

McCain campaign directive to Sarah Palin:
“Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous.’

One to carry all of us through the next 20 days:
“I still believe in Hope – mostly because there’s no such place as Fingers Crossed, Arkansas.”

Think of all the material supplied by 8 years of Bill Clinton and his antics then George Bush and his lack of intelligence enhanced only by John McCain (age factor) and SP (need I say more). Suddenly the well may go dry.

Perhaps it is their politics or his race or the fact that every answer that Barack gives is well thought out but I have seen very little political caricature on Barack in late night television.

Good Morning and wishing you all a wonderful day.

I ask, with tongue in cheek of course, the following. Is it remotely possible that SP’s assessment of last Friday’s release of the legislative investigation’s findings (ie: “I am pleased that it has been determined that I did NOTHING wrong) was because she didn’t, or couldn’t, read the actual findings ??

“COULDN’T”?? IF she couldn’t read (literally), that would explain why she wasn’t able to answer Catie Curic’s question when she asked SP what she reads. It would also partly explain why the “Dude” (sic) spends so much time in the governors office, day in and day out. Maybe he’s there to read the regular mail, read and respond to emails in the official and non-official accounts, and write her speeches using crayons and pictures so that she can interpret what she is suppose to say.

Who knows?? The longer this saga continues, nothing would surprise me any more.

Smile everbody and make the most of your day. :))))

Another week, another Palin ethics scandal — HouseGate

Seems that in 2002 the Palins had their half a million dollar Wasilla house built for free by the same company (and at the same time) that the Wasilla $12 million sports complex was built.

More “mavericky” graft by Alaska’s most famous “reform” couple.

Hey, can I call you dishonest, Sarah and Todd?

DR (05:49:04) :
Good Morning and wishing you all a wonderful day. I ask, with tongue in cheek of course, the following. Is it remotely possible that SP’s assessment of last Friday’s release of the legislative investigation’s findings (ie: “I am pleased that it has been determined that I did NOTHING wrong) was because she didn’t, or couldn’t, read the actual findings ??
——
Well I don’t know about she can’t read. I’m sure if it is written in big block letter on colored notecards or it’s on a teleprompter she can read fine. But I am absolutely 100% certain she didn’t read that report. More likely, she was instructed to NOT read the report as she should not have to worry her ‘pretty little head’ over a mean-spirited, smear report issued by Obama-backed partisan ‘haters’.

Of course what she was probably told was, “Here’s the good news, it doesn’t look like you are going to jail – yet.”

She then processed the information through the Palin-lie-generator and was able to spew out, ““I am pleased that it has been determined that I did NOTHING wrong.”

I do wonder if there is a paper or e-paper trail between either Todd or Sarah with the “builders”. I cannot even conceive of the idea that building permits were waived in a structure as big as the house the Palins built.

Does anyone know if this is even being considered for investigation by the AG’s office, or is it a personnel board affair?

——
The reason they can’t link anything is because as mayor, Sarah Palin blocked an effort to require the filing of building permits in Wassilla so there is no public record of who Todd’s ‘buddies’ who helped him build the house were.

But this is interesting…
THE $12.5 MILLION sports complex and hockey rink that is the lasting monument to Palin’s two terms as Wasilla mayor is also a monument to the kind of insider politics that dismays Americans of both parties. Six months before Palin stepped down as mayor in October 2002, the city awarded nearly a half-million-dollar contract to design the biggest project in Wasilla history to Kumin Associates. Blase Burkhart was the Kumin architect on the job-the son of Roy Burkhart, who is frequently described as a “mentor” of Palin and was head of the local Republican Party (his wife, June, who also advised Palin, is the national committeewoman). Asked if the contract was a favor, Roy Burkhart, who contributed to her campaign in the same time frame that his son got the contract, said: “I really don’t know.” Palin then named Blase Burkhart to a seven-member builder-selection committee that picked Howdie Inc., a mostly residential contractor owned at the time by Howard Nugent. Formally awarded the contract a couple of weeks after Palin left office, Nugent has donated $4,000 to Palin campaigns. Two competitors protested the process that led to Nugent’s contract. Burkhart and Nugent had done at least one project together before the complex-and have done several since.

I would be curious to know if Nugent’s bid was the lowest. Someone should investigate that. I bet those two contractors who protested the bidding process would talk.

– Sarah Palin, September 25 2008, explaining again why living in Alaska gives her foreign policy experience

——————————————————————————–

“Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh — it’s got to be all about job creation too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.”

– Sarah Palin, September 24 2008, trying to explain to Katie Couric why giving Wall Street investment companies a 700 billion dollar government handout is a better idea than giving that money to middle class Americans.

——————————————————————————–
“It is, somebody was saying this morning, a toxic waste there on Wall Street, affecting Main Street. And we’ve got to cure this.”

I heard an interview (with KO) with I think the editor of Village Voice who said that as mayor, Palin ELIMINATED BUILDING PERMITS! No building permits required, thus no paper trail!!!

I also read somewhere that when they wanted to sell their home (this one?) the future buyer complained because of zoning problems – the house was too close to the water and the garage was built where it shouldn’t have been built. Again, mayor Palin went to the Zoning Board and…. had them change the zoning rules! Convenient!

I think the Troopergate investigation are enough to knock Palin out of politics but I feel that the sports complex and the building of her home could possibly put her in jail.

After having been in construction management for most of my adult life I have some inkling of how construction works. Several things on the sports complex and the home just don’t smell right. As I understand it the sports complex was built without Wasilla having clear title to the land. In most areas of the country this project would have been stopped when the first shovel full of dirt was turned. It is incomprehensible to me that someone didn’t investigate this during the planning stage of the sports proposal. I don’t know about Alaska but in most areas of the country several heads would roll over this and a criminal investigation would be started. The sports complex was built by a contractor whose basic experience was in residential construction. This isn’t done. To branch out into commercial and institutional construction a residential contractor has to build small commercial projects abd then increasingly larger projects until he proves that he is qualified for a project the size of the sports complex. Any architect that I have worked with would refuse to allow a residential contractor to work on a project the size of the sports complex. The average person will say that it is all construction so what’s the difference. There is a vast difference! Commercial and institutional construction is many times more complex than residential. According to the Salon article there are so many interlocking architectural, construction and supplier ties that hanky-panky is almost inevitable. Wasn’t there someone with enough backbone to begin asking questions?

As for the home; Todd Palin says that he built the home with the help of friends. Salon says that Sarah and Todd were campaigning while the home was being built. Just a little discrepancy there. Anyone that has ever built their own home or had one built will tell you that there is no way they would not spend a huge amount of time on site while the home was being built to ensure that it was built the the homeowner’s satisfaction. Apparently the home is a custom home like no other. If this is the case an architect would have to be involved. If the architect of the home is the same as the architect of the sports complex there should be an investigation to see if there is any impropriety there. Suspicions have been raised about the sports complex contractor’s personnel working on the Palin home. Employee time records from the sports complex should be still available and this could easily give an indication (but not proof) that employees were involved in the Palin home construction. It would seem to me that it would be fairly easy to question, under oath, everyone that supposedly worked on the sports complex to see if they worked on the Palin home. I’m sure that the material invoices are still available from the suppliers to the sports complex. Material invoices always have model numbers, sizes and prices on them so it would be relatively easy to determine if residential quality items were purchased supposedly for the sports complex. Should there be any residential quality items on the material invoices for the sports complex an investigation should be made to determine if the sports complex contractor illegally substituted lesser quality materials to the sports complex or if the items were purchased for some other project and charged to the sports complex. If any goods or services were provided to the Palin home contruction gratis than it should have been reported on the Palin’s income tax returns and probably to the Alaska authorities. Failure to do so would be against the US Tax Code and is subject to collection of unpaid taxes, interest on the unpaid taxes, penalties and prosecution with possible jail time.

i have a couple other treats for folks that i’ve come across in my blogging travels this morning.

andrew sullivan has a post up titled “Alaskan Women Get It” which contains a video clip of two alaskan women talking about sarah palin: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/10/alaskans-get-it.html

and some eye candy for the obama fans — there’s a website called “Obama Pics Daily” that has great photographs of obama on the campaign trail. i don’t know how far it goes back, i’ve only had time to look at 5 or 6 pages, each containing four photos of barack, michelle, the kids, his supporters … http://community.livejournal.com/obama_daily/

and did any of you catch the frontline program featuring obama and mccain? i saw a good part of it late last night. it explores the careers of obama and mccain in pretty close detail. the stuff on obama was fascinating, especially the early video footage of him speaking in public, and the case was made very well that barack obama has what this country needs in terms of leadership.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed, whereever it was in Pennsylvania that McCain outlined his big economic plans on Tuesday morning they must have had every last local high school cheerleader sitting next to the microphones. To me, the over-enthusiastic, high-voiced cheering gave his political promises the air of an oldtime kiddie TV show.
(On our brief vacation down the central CA coast, it was a little too chilly for tent camping, so we ended up in a motel. One hazard is my partner stays up watching all the cable channels we don’t get at home, in this case political news on MSNBC, CNN, etc. Gotta see how the folks not addicted to the internet get their thin, shallow news. Local newspapers not much better.

Caligrl-I’m sorry (the links about Palin are getting more numerous by the day) that link is from Village Voice. Actually the part about the Palin home and the sports complex is the fifth page of an expose’ on Palin. Here is the link to the fifth page. I have forensic construction investigations in the past. Recently I took over a general contractor that the owner had turned of to a relative. I found several million that the relative had embezzled from the company. The embezzlement was done with the aid of an accountant so the money was hard to find. The link is:

The two women from Arnchorage comments about Wassilla were very interesting. Not only mentioning that the Sports Complex wasn’t big enough for Anchorage let alone Wassilla, but also mentioning how Palin has destroyed Wassilla with large stores surrounded by parking lots surrounded by chopped down forests.

The one girl on the left commented on how she had a cabin in Wassilla, which used to be a rustic, small-town but now is just ugly. Her comment that Palin cares nothing about what makes Alaska so wonderful, which is it’s amazing natural beauty was the most telling.

Has Palin done anything admirable in her short career? I mean one damn thing???? Everything she touched seems to mired in controvsry. Everything she did is surrounded with ethics violations, cronyism, favoritism – all to benefit her and hers.

Could McCain have made a worse pick???? I mean seriously!!!!

The line between the Sports Complex monstrosity and the Palin monstrosity right down the street seems pretty damn straight and clear to me.

If there is nothing to hide the Palins should have no problem producing records and receipts. Make them do it!

Gee, she changes the building permits laws, she changes the zoning laws, she builds a sports complex the town doesn’t need and can’t afford, she subverts the bidding process, and now she has a nice big house to show for it.

I don’t smell a rat, I smell a rotting, stinking cadaver!

Come MSM – dig some more! Talk to those contractors who lost the bid. They smelled something stinky enough to file a complaint against the bidding process.

From ADN:
“Palin held her inauguration in Fairbanks — a first — to celebrate the state constitutional convention held here 50 years ago.”
but:…..
“Starting today, Palin, Parnell, acting Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Marty Rutherford and newly appointed Department of Revenue Commissioner Patrick Galvin expect to meet with the three North Slope oil producers — BP, Conoco Phillips and Exxon Mobil — with whom Murkowski negotiated his deal.”
She wanted to meet with the Oil companies as soon as she had the power (the next day) so, it’s possible that Fairbanks was chosen to make the Oil/Palin meeting easier and less of an issue with urgency.

From her inauguration speech, please NOTE who she quotes,…the AIP member who was governor,..Hickel…
“”America is looking for answers. She’s looking for a new direction, the world is looking for a light. It’s Gov. (Walter) Hickel that reminds me that light can come from America’s great north star, it can come from Alaska.”

“There’s no part of the world where the people and land fit as they do here. Our natural resources are our lifeblood, and they’re commonly owned by all of us. We’re unlike any other state of the union. Here it’s the people who are in charge. We have rights and responsibilities to produce.”

McCain, for all his “Christian” pretensions, also rarely goes to church. He says he changed to the Baptist Church, but has never been baptized. Apparently the Baptist Church is more in line with Dobson and Graham’s idea of what a good Christian should be and McCain is desperately trying to court them and their followers.

Another interesting tidbit from the Branchflower report on Troopergate, from Branchflower’s interview with Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan’s executive secretary, Cassandra Byrne:

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: And then the last call was in April of 2008. I think you told me earlier that he had just gotten back from a legislative session in Juneau, or something. Tell about that, if you would.

MS. BYRNE: I think that he was disappointed with the legislative decision about budgeting for public safety, and when he came back I asked him how the meetings went, the hearings, et cetera. He said that it was basically very disheartening at the direction that the legislative session had gone because we were not going to receive the funding that we would need.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: And was there mention made of Michael Wooten in the context of this conversation?

MS. BYRNE: Yes.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: What did he tell you?

MS. BYRNE: That because of the fact that we still had Wooten in our employee, that we would continue to have the problems with budgeting.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: That was his feeling?

MS. BYRNE: Yes.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: Did he say that he had been told that, or did you get the feeling that that was just his feeling?

MS. BYRNE: No. He was – I don’t know who, whether someone told him directly, but it has always been my feeling that our administration has always been pressured and everything that we’ve done as far as goals and projects, that it weighed very heavily upon that issue.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: The issue being Mike Wooten being fired?

MS. BYRNE: Yes.

MR. BRANCHFLOWER: And the pressure that you’re referring to, would that be coming from the Governor or Governor’s office?

MS. BYRNE: It was her Administration – not only from the Governor, but

Re: building permits
I think you’d have to go to Wasilla (and outlying areas) to ‘get’ how it wasn’t too hard for Palin to block the need for permits. There’s many a “home”, hidden in the trees, that would never pass code in the lower 48, but, in Ak, due to the weather, difficulty in getting materials, etc., it’s okay to bolt an old house trailer to the side of your cabin and cut a connecting door, …stuff like that. In some cases, shelter is quite literal.
Sure, there are loads of really nice houses, but you have to remember that it’s the last frontier (so to speak) and there are some people lacking indoor plumbing or drinkable water (or it’s well-water that’s so hard you have to bring 100 lb. bags of water conditioner with you). Think cabin, often deep snow, few roads, heavily-wooded, etc., and you’ll get the picture.

Sarah Palin had a baby in April 2008, her son Trig who is a Down Syndrome baby. The story of Trig’s birth has been well-reported. One question that has not been answered — why did Gov. Palin risk her baby’s life by flying from Dallas, Texas all the way back to Alaska to deliver her baby?

One answer: Because a person must be born on Alaska soil to be a citizen of the separate nation of Alaska, according to the AIP doctrine.

From the Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122002615833483595.html
“Gov. Palin’s opted to board a jet from Dallas in April while about to deliver a child. Gov. Palin, who was eight months pregnant, says she felt a few contractions shortly before she was to give a keynote speech to an energy summit of governors in Dallas. But she says she went ahead with it after her doctor in Alaska advised her to put her feet up to rest. “I was not going to miss that speech,” she says.

She rushed so quickly from the podium afterwards that Texas Gov. Rick Perry nervously asked if she was about to deliver the baby then. She made it to the airport, and gave birth hours after landing in Anchorage to Trig, who is diagnosed with Down Syndrome. “Maybe they shouldn’t have let me fly, but I wasn’t showing much so they didn’t know,” she says.”

Wow, one minute I’m reading Le Monde and I lift my head to the catch the next scandal. They just keep coming.

As far as I’m concerned, it makes little difference if CNN was threatened with legal action or not, if they have backed away from a story that can be verified, their actions are more than disgraceful. I was going to characterize what I think they are, but I don’t want to sink into the McCain mud.

I usually disagreed with William Buckley on most issues, but always thought he brought reasoned arguments to any issue. (wrong, but reasoned) Now The National Review has sunk to the status of being a mouthpiece for the dogmatic ravings of the fanatic right.
I think one of William Buckley’s own statements would best sum up the situation.
“Conservatives pride themselves on resisting change, which is as it should be. But intelligent deference to tradition and stability can evolve into intellectual sloth and moral fanaticism, as when conservatives simply decline to look up from dogma because the effort to raise their heads and reconsider is too great.” -William F. Buckley
While I’m sure that Christopher hasn’t changed his basic belief in conservatism, I applaud his willingness to speak out for the truth as he sees it, regardless of the cost to him personally. Kudos to you, Mr. Buckley.

Where did you get the thing about having to be Alaska-born to be ‘in’ with the AIP doctrine? I don’t believe that’s true, since the vast majority of members were NOT born in Ak.//

It’s been discussed as a reason for Sarah’s broken water flight from Texas to Alaska on several websites ever since Trig was born.

Does anyone in Alaska really believe that the AIP is dangerous? Do any Rethugs actually believe the 2008 edition of Ayers is? Really?!

It’s all just spin but I understand why fighting fire with fire is important.

I wonder if someone who had been interview by the Village Voice for the AIP story has recanted their story. Maybe they were pressured to tell it, or maybe to retract it. I bet the McCain/Palin camp may have an affidavit suggesting a scenario like this.

Did anyone think Timothy McVeigh was dangerous??? Not prior to his bombing in OK. So it’s not much difference as you never know. You can also compare to sleeper cells — like those prior to 9/11. There is no way of knowing if someone could go off.

Question is: Are you prepared to chance it??

My thoughts are that there are just too many contradictions with them. If we said it was white and had documentation to back it up — they say it’s black. Troopergate and her denial as an example.

I think it’s really dangerous that Sarah Palin may hold greater allegiance to the state of Alaska as a separate nation than to the USA as our nation. I believe Sarah’s capable of forwarding an agenda on behalf of the AIP. I think she should at least reject & renounce the AIP’s doctrines, or explain her family’s connections to the group, instead of just ignoring what investigative reports have found.

Obama has given his explanation of Ayers connections many times over.
Sarah Palin has not once spoken about AIP and now would be a good time for her to ‘fess up.

Well maybe the AIP isn’t “dangerous” but what they play around with is! The founder was blown up by explosives! His remark’s (on their website) could be associated with a “domestic terrorist”!

The fact that Todd Palin joined AIP and thus agreed to their separatist doctrines is very damning for his wife, who is running for VP under the motto “Country First”. I’m sure the McCain campaign would like this story to go away.

A couple of Alaskan women worthy of elective office:

I don’t have sound on the computer I’m on right now. This is supposed to be in Anchorage? It doesn’t look familiar, and the women are in sleeveless shirts… Nobody wears sleeveless shirts, even in summer hardly. When was this supposedly shot? There is snow on the ground now…
Confused. AKM

I think this was posted on one of the threads earlier this week by the guy who said he’d made the video (maybe a Bruce?). Looks like one of the sides of the 5th Ave. Mall or the parking lot across the street to me (and done earlier this year when there was actually summer in Anchorage? Did Anchorage actually have a few hot days this year?).

@bPoint (05:48:51) : AND @Aussie Puck Mule Hussein (05:51:10) :

Does anyone think the inauguration being held in Fairbanks has anything to do with the Palins AIP ideologies?

She CLAIMED that it was to honor Fairbanks as the site of the writing of the Alaska Constitution 50 years before, except that she was off by a year or so in hitting the 50 years mark…

@Jamie, Floridian in France (06:52:51) :

I also read somewhere that when they wanted to sell their home (this one?) the future buyer complained because of zoning problems – the house was too close to the water and the garage was built where it shouldn’t have been built. Again, mayor Palin went to the Zoning Board and…. had them change the zoning rules! Convenient!

That was the house they sold so they could move into the one now under debate.

@avahome (07:48:57) :

Building permits and construction plans I would think had to be filed with the city. I’m not sure of this, but doesn’t the city of Wasilla have a city manager position?

Nope, apparently when she was elected mayor, she did away with Wasilla’s building permits program, so there’s no paper trail on this house…

AARRGGHH, that poor child. I foresee YEARS of therapy for her…

Seems that our Miss Sarah is pretty darn full of herself today. Saw her all over the TeeVee. I was flipping the channel any time I heard that awful voice, but it was EVERYWHERE. I think she thinks that she should be debating Obama tonight–I’d love to sit in on that one.

Can you still run for president if you’ve committed a felony (as opposed to committing felonies while in office, which is apparently okay)? We had better hope that something she’s done makes her ineligible, because I think she’s pretty damn cocky about her future in national politics right about now.

@avahome (07:48:57) :

Didn’t it make anyone in town just the teensiest bit suspicious that the mayor wanted to do away with building permits? All I’ve heard since this started is that she ruined Wasilla by allowing unrestrained and apparently unmonitored building.

I’m really surprised that the Governor’s mansion renovation story hasn’t caught fire. If it’s true, it is a scandal waiting to happen. Of course, if the McCain camp is going to threaten lawsuits (see CNN and the AIP story) any time anyone reports on her nefarious activities and the media is going to whimp out, I guess it will just be us lonely blog readers who will know the truth.
