Here’s a good midday chuckle.
Need a good reason (another one, I mean) not to vote for Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin?
How about to save Tina Fey’s life?
“If she wins, I’m done,” Fey tells TV Guide. “I can’t do that for four years. And by ‘I’m done,’ I mean I’m leaving Earth.”
But that will not keep her from continuing to spoof the former beauty queen right up to election day. And with good reason. The New York Post notes that political impersonations can actually do in a politician.
“Presidential impersonators do influence elections, and in this one, Tina Fey is well on her way to ruining Sarah Palin’s political career,” said Jerald Podair, a professor of American Studies at Lawrence University.
“Election time is always good for [‘SNL’], and this is a bonkers election,” Fey tells TV Guide in the upcoming issue with “30 Rock’s” Alec Baldwin on the cover. And that lady is a media star. She is a fascinating person, she’s very likable. She’s fun to play, and the two bits with Amy Poehler, that was super fun.”
So a few more weeks is doable. But having to be Palin for the next four years would be a frightening full-time job.
For more humor, Lindsay Lohan will dress up as Sarah Palin for Halloween–http://www.dlisted.com/node/28734

Do it for the children. And Tina Fey!
And Lindsay Lohan’s partner Samantha Ronson will dress up as Todd Palin on Halloween:

I sit here, watching the news, checking the liberal blogs for good news…. but I have to return here every few minutes…. Thanks, AKM…..I mean Brian!!!!!
BTW how is my favorite moose????
Check back on tonights Open Thread! 🙂 AKM
McCain’s selection of Palin as his running mate has certainly been good for the personal economies and financial well-being of those who are comedy writers or comedians/comediennes/late-night TV hosts.
….”spoofing Palin”?…….quoting Palin word-for-word (verbatim, for you elitists) got the biggest laughs!
Not sure that I buy that a comedy impersonator’s schtick can ruin a politician’s career, though. If that were true, how do you explain Bush’s re-election? If anything, Tina Fey makes Sarah seem more llikable than she actually is.
I’m afraid I’ll have to go with her if McCain/Palin win.
Tina is great!!
Let Sarah leave the planet instead.
Canvasser to undecided boomer couple: “If you’re still unsure about Obama, then consider it a vote for Tina Fey !!!”
And if Tina Fey leaves the Earth, I’ll leave the country!
Tina Fey has satirized Palin so well that most voters will not be able to distinguish between a remark made by Tina as Palin and a remark made by Sarah as Palin. And, for purposes of the election, that’s a good thing.
I’ve been lurking for a few days and have become fond of mudflats. I wonder if anyone else thinks Sarah’s clothes are getting tighter fitting. I have never seen a professional woman wear such tight clothes….except for Ali McBeal maybe.
If you want to protest Sarah Palin’s appearance on SNL on 10/25/08, write to: lorne@lornemichaels.com
There have been MANY moments I have felt as though I was already living on a “different planet” during this election!

I don’t know if this has already been posted but I didn’t see it. Maurene Wilkes posted a letter over on Andrew Halcro’s blog denying and threatening.
But more interesting are the reponses below including the supposed ‘disgruntled’ employee who called Branchflower.
I agree with another poster on Halcro’s blog who says Wilke’s doth protest too much.
Very interested! And especially interesting how small-towon Alaska really is. This is a very intersting blog. Read the responses.
AKM- But having to be Palin for the next four years would be a frightening full-time job.
Good luck with that Todd. . .
MSNBC reported this morning the SNL Palin story is only a myth. SNL has no agreement with SP to appear on 10/25 or ever at this point.
Now McCain Campaign Says He Will Offer Economic Proposals Tomorrow. (Hmmm…Are you sure this time John?)

I think we can credit Tina Fey for causing much of the general public to believe that Palin actually said she can see Russia from her house. While it was indeed idiotic for Palin to cite Alaska’s proximity to Russia as a key part of her foreign policy experience, Tina Fey managed to push the remarks to a whole new level of ridiculousness.
I hope Tina goes on every SNL episode from now until Election Day. I don’t think it helps Palin at all. But, I guess I am a little biased…

Hope you’re right but gossip columnist Cindy Adams wrote otherwise on Friday:

Anybody know where I can buy the t-shirt ? 🙂

Sorry, Jerry: Palin is already doing that all on her own…
As if we needed another reason to vote against the McCain/Palin ticket.
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN AND SAVE TINA FEY!!!!
Well if this doesn’t win the election for them I don’t know what will.
hmm… what was the name of that cult that claimed that they were going to be scooped up by Halley’s comet that time? Perhaps we could line up the Kool-aid, all get nekked, invite Tina Fey and hitch a ride off the Earth!

THAT’s the one! Nice pull-it-outta-thin-air there!
Yeah, you all remember how Will Ferrell’s spot-on, devastating impression of George W. Bush cost him the election in 2000, don’t you??
Off topic, but I finally got the 2 videos in “Stapleton, This Town Ain’t Big Enough…” to play on my laptop and…OMG! I agree with everyone else:
Les Gara for Governor! Oh, wait…I’m not an Alaskan. Gee, AKM, will you vote my proxy?
Well . . . I lived in Alaska for 26 years, but recently returned to the Lower 48 because of the Palin administration (I worked for the State of Alaska). I’m with Tina Fey on fleeing yet again!
@Lin Hussein
I thought the outfit she wore to the debate was pretty skintight. My guess was she was hoping to distract everyone from her words by putting those beauty pageant skills to use.

Let me start by saying this is not a rant at you personally….k?
Um that may have been an attempt at humor, but the terms used in that “article”/blog are so disgraceful and derogatory and really need to be stopped. There is no call for anyone including a celebrity to be called names like Hohan.
I am not upset at you sharing the funny story about celebs making fun of the candidate they don’t agree with, but I just wish there could have been a better story about it. But then again given who she is, maybe there isn’t one out there about her.

I think Tina deserves an Oscar for her imitation of Palin. Good stuff.
Lulu…thanks. I just dropped Loren and told him I will not be watching SNL if Palin is going to make an appearance.
Letterman; now him I trust to give her enough rope to humiliate herself, the party and Alaska. SNL I don’t.
I agree with SoCal Bob, but for TV work you can be awarded an Emmy, for movie work you can be awarded an Oscar (a/k/a an Academy Award).

I love Tina Fey. If she’s leaving the earth, I want to go, too!
What is the area of expertise of that schmuck who said that Tina’s ruining Palin’s career? I think he’s got it backwards, myself. As long as Tina keeps making her bearable with those PERFECT impressions, we can take the Palin reality for just a little while longer (without resorting to unfortunate behavior of some kind) I think that Palin’s national career ends in about 3 weeks–oh please, please!!!–but it has nothing to do with Tina Fey. I think Tina is prolonging her career (none of us want HER to leave) and the least Sarah can do in return is keep providing material for her and all the other comedians and songwriters out there in these troubled economic times** sound of violin music, please
But really, I’ve got to get back to laminating and cutting out my Sarah Palin masks: one for me, one for the boss, one for my sister-in-law, etc.
Catch you mudpups later!
I object to the Tina Fey for Governor sign pictured. Please change it to Tina Fey for President.

I love it – Republicans are turning for Obama!
I posted to a forum for psychologists asking what would account for someone repeatedly and unabashedly lying and seeming to be unaware/unphased by it.
It is really disturbing and more than a little unnerving that Palin is completely oblivious to lying. Even more disturbing that so many people are willing to let her get away with it.
Did anyone else catch all the great endorsements for Obama this weekend? From papers in swing states, papers that endorsed W in 04, and papers in red parts of blue states! I blogged on it today with links to all the editorials so they’re right there in one spot — and they open in a separate window to make for easier reading. Enjoy! People are beginning to see in Obama what we’ve seen all along.

Good line of work for her-“to the moon with you, Alice/Sarah!!”
Worth noting is that Tina Fey has nailed Palin using Palin’s own words and own gestures, which are absurd and funny. Tina happens to resemble Palin, or vice versa.
Nobody has nailed Obama, perhaps because his words and gestures are not absurd and funny.
Whoopsie… talking about the Palin’s house on Obermann… Ummmmmmmm Sarah, have you EVER been honest?

Where are all the more cerebrial people who early on, on this site who openly participated in thoughtful debate on this blog? I don’t see their names anymore…could it be that they have lost interest? Why? I believe it is the result of intelligent conversation with others apparently seems less and less.
I love healthy debate, but more recently the dialogue on this site has lowered its level of professionalism, and the intelligent blogs are getting fewer and fewer. I’m very worried that all the original efforts of the site builder making this a platform with which intelligent research can be read and enjoyed, as well as being entertaining and enlightening is starting to fall shortl.
I fear that many who used to blog here often have discontinued their participation because they see the same very “sillyness” that the McCain/Palin campaign is been accused of.
Please, everyone…use discretion, not high school gutter talk and bathroom humor, then maybe some of our more interesting and prolific bloggers will return to the forum.
let’s not let the fools take over our forum…
Speaking of “forum”, there is an entire forum available for discussion on a wide variety of topics. Just click on the Mudflats Forum on the sidebar. Many Mudflatters prefer that venue for conversation. AKM
At the philly game Saturday someone had a sign up that said, Palin!
“I Can See You Political Future Going Down The Drain From My House”
I thought that was Funny as Heck! Anyway I read today that SNL won’t be back until after the election,So I guess no Tina Fey.
I was also offended by the DLister article. Why is Lindsay Lohan a “ho” for having a long term relationship with a female? Please.
Speaking of which-a gay friend of mine was with her partner for 7 years, paying most of the bills while her partner finished her doctorate. She even co-signed a car note for her, because her partner (as a foreign exchange student) could not get a loan. Now that she is completing her doctorate in December, she decided to move back to Europe and *not* take my friend. She is stuck with the car loan, as well as all of the debt. If they could have legally married, there would at least be an equitable division of debt. Instead, my friend is looking at bankruptcy.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t think it’s satire if you just use their words and mannerism. Okay, I’ll admit there was A LITTLE exaggeration in mannerisms. But not much (but oh so effecgtive).
Okay, I’ll admit that it was only around half to two-thirds of the skit that was using Sarah’s words. the rest she made up. I guess that part is satire.

Never thought I’d be getting my news from Mudflats though. It is nice to hear from people who really know Sarah because down here all we see is very filtered.

I dunno…seems like the logical conclusion of Rove politics of hate, or of five-year-olds on a play ground. If you discredit both your opponents and the impartial fact-checkers so that your followers automatically disbelieve them you can turn discourse into propaganda moments.
Or, in a nutshell, “What I say is so, and yo mama smells.”

I may not be as highbrow as you but i do know it’s spelled “cerebral” not “cerebrial.”
I think we’re pretty thoughtful and downright witty, doggone it:-)
This has been a highly-charged political season, accompanied by an world-wide economic crisis. I sometimes find myself in a frenzy, feeling a though I should do “something” to stop the craziness…but I don’t know what to do. Well, last night, I read a short article about our own Joe Biden that made me sob…in a good way.I t reminded me there are always actions we can take to lift others (and ourselves) up.
This short piece – a young man’s remembrance of our guy Joe – reminded me about the very best qualities we have, as human beings, to share with each other. If you have a few spare moments, read this ENTIRE moving, inspirational testimonial regarding the character of Joe Biden.
“Joe Biden’s Tears Remembered”
Steven Petrow
It starts like this:
“As I watched Senator Joe Biden tear up at the tale end of the much ballyhooed vice presidential debate, I had a visceral moment of déjà vu. In case you missed what jump started it, the senior senator from Delaware became momentarily misty-eyed as he refuted the notion that “just because I am a man” he couldn’t understand what it’s like to wonder whether or not a child would “make it” after a life-threatening accident. Watching him that evening, it was hard not to think about Biden’s honorable character and love of family — especially as we now know his mother-in-law was to die the morning after.”

FYI –
Keith Olbermann brought up “housegate” tonight on Countdown and had a guest on who knew something about it. I just caught the end of it when I walked in the door tonight. Countdown will be run again tonight in an hour or two on MSNBC so I’ll have to watch it.
All I caught was something about the Palins using the same folks that built the sports complex to build their house “FOR FREE”.
Lets hope the IRS were watching!
Wow, KO was amazing tonight, he must have been reading Mudflats all week-end. He came right out and said, the Palins built there house with arena funds…he even had a back-up reporter putting legs on the story. This is huge! I think there is a bulldozer or many even many bulldozers looking into the records up there in AK these days. Many more good things came out on KO, hope it’s on again later because I want to watch it again, watching Racheal right now.

Endorsement——————–
There is a point in every contest when sitting on the sidelines is not an option. That is why Linnea and I are writing to urge you to join Barack Obama’s campaign for President. There are pivotal moments in history when the right decision by a nation can change its course for the better — opening up new paths before us and providing future generations with opportunities that we had not thought possible. This coming election provides one of those moments. Linnea and I believe Barack Obama is the right leader at this critical juncture. I have written that when coaching a team, you must be prepared to make changes to meet new challenges and obstacles. We must be prepared to do the same as a nation. Now, it is the United States that needs a change in direction… and a change in leadership. Join Barack Obama today by volunteering in your corner of North Carolina:
http://nc.barackobama.com/jointhesmiths
Linnea and I respect all that Senator McCain has done for our country. However, we feel strongly that it is Barack Obama who offers the real leadership our nation needs to tap its potential as a land of opportunity — even as we face difficult times at home and abroad. Senator Obama is a patriotic American, a committed Christian, a good family man, and a man who shares the bedrock values that most North Carolinians have in common: fairness, hard work, respect for others, and personal responsibility. And he has the vision and judgment to help us push through this period of uncertainty to a time of greater economic stability and greater security from threats abroad. If you believe America needs to set a new course, then the time to join us is now. If you are already an Obama supporter, please step up to help our campaign. There are only about three weeks left before Election Day, and if we are going to move away from the failed policies of the past, then we need your help now. So we encourage you to get out there and get involved — talk to your neighbors and sign up to volunteer today.
Get involved now: http://nc.barackobama.com/jointhesmiths
And pass this email along to those you think might be interested. This election is too important to stand on the sidelines and watch history pass us by. Thank you,

GJ in Idaho,
I’m glad you got to watch it. I just caught a piece of it. Yes, MSNBC will air Keith again in an hour or two.
This is huge. I love it.
Isn’t this exactly the reason why Ted Stevens is on trial? However, he only got some home improvements – not an ENTIRE house.
Anybody else think SP may have an urgent family crisis soon?
McCain must be livid – and we all know an angry McCain is not a good thing!
bonniefayinnc (16:52:45), was the Dean Smith endorsement on the Obama site what you are referring to?
UK lady,
I think it’s too late for Palin’s “family crisis”. At least I hope it is. Sarah is the gift that keeps on giving.
“Didn’t get a reaction to the ‘New Yorker’ article I posted for ‘usedtoparticipate’, I guess it was too “cerebrial” for her/him”

It was way too cerebrial for me…I kept scrollin’ and scrollin’ and it never stopped! Good one, UK lady–btw, I love your posts!
The Dean Smith endorsement must be huge in North Carolina. That is great news.
She is a generous gal, Yup! Yup!

Good story in the New Yorker (today’s date)
Thanks to Connie Schultz on MSNBC now talking about Palin’s stump speeches as inciting “hate speech”–she’s speaking truth!
Let’s give everyone a break here – Heaven only knows we’ve all had typos and what looks like misspellings.
bonniefayinnc (16:52:45) and Viva (17:01:12),
“Concord, N.C. — Republican presidential candidate John McCain picked up an endorsement on Saturday from NASCAR legend Richard Petty, according to press release from the McCain campaign.”
http://www.wral.com/news/local/politics/story/3719715/
Would have been fun to find out Petty was backing Obama.
Well thank you Lock Pepper, it’s always nice to be appreciated. Will say g’night now as it’s 2.30am here, see you all tomorrow I hope.
Dean Smith’s endorsement here in NC is HUGE–he’s close to sainthood here in Chapel Hill, and he’s gone out on a limb many times when it wasn’t easy or fun to do so. He came out against the death penalty–not an easy position in NC. And speaking of honor and integrity–Dean Smith is considered the epitome of honor here. I’m so proud of our growing blue-ness!
@Steph aka Beans and which ferret:
To those of you who were offended by “DListed.com,” so sorry. I suppose you are also offended by “PerezHilton.com” as well. Sorry if you have never heard of them before. They are “new media.” Perez Hilton’s site brings in over $100,000 a month.

Woo hoo ! our FL repug Gov. Charlie Crist has semi-redeemed himself: he bowed out of supporting McCain at a rally … and went to Disney World instead

People are starting to jump off the McCain ship to save themselves. Crist is just one of many. Keith mentioned several other stalwart Republicans that are also bailing out.
And Rachel just commented that it is so bad for McCain, that he has to spend valuable time in former “fire engine red” states because they are slipping so bad.

Keith’s guest was Wayne Barrett of The Village Voice. Here is the house story:
http://www.villagevoice.com/2008-10-08/news/the-book-of-sarah/5
Have either of the Palin’s, or the McCain campaign, offered any rebuttal to Housegate as of yet ? I don’t believe I have heard anything. Why are they so quiet ?
Too busy forging the necessary documents to cover Sarah’s behind ?
Yeah, Vlad–you’re right–don’t mean to be snarky but the “what happened to thoughtful and cerebrial on this blog?” got under my skin. Seemed a little disdainful–probably came from the elite liberal media types, lol!

And i’m sure KO reads this place.. it’s right up his alley.. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a Keith on here it’s the O man.. The best reporter on TV..
The little woman is probably shittin and peein (homage to Palin) in her pants.. First she tried skatin on Troopergate, but I really don’t think she’s going to be able to blame bribery on the Dems..!

And Perez Hilton is the must-read blog for the younger folks in our world, and they can vote, so it’s all good!
And condolences to the family of Gil Stratton, who passed away this weekend. Keith had an excellent piece on him as his “Best Persons In The World” tonight.
He played ‘Cookie” in the 1953 movie Stalag 17, with William Holden (who won an Oscar for his role).

NYDem.. simple.. Obama tricked her contractors into offering her a free house, with the understanding that Obama operatives were waiting in the wings to put blame on her. And amazing as it is, even though her house was built YEARS ago, obama was so sure she’d be the VP nom even back then and was preparing to trick her into that FREE house.
Obama, dontcha know is all about gettin and goin, and wigglin and wagglin.. And Obama can get jiggy, ya know cause he’s a black dood.
See how easy that was? 🙂
GO RACHAEL GO..
she’s reaming the GOP lemming..
But Sarah Palin is going to Washington to “shake things up”, “ruffle feathers” and stop all the “cronyism”. Reading that article about the sports complex, to whom the contracts were awarded and blocking building permits seems a little like cronyism to me.
If this story is true, her cronyism is as subtle as a fart in a small church.
Uhoh – sheath those claws !!!!!!!
Hello ‘usedtoparticipate’
What do you think of the ‘New Yorker’ article then?. I would value your intelligent discourse on the matter.

Nebraska Native AKA Froth Hussein Failin (17:50:11) : can get whole story with any search on “John Rowland scandal”, but here’s a taste.
“But federal prosecutors said Rowland ran a corrupt office, with aides steering state business to companies in exchange for cash, gold coins and expensive gifts. Rowland’s former co-chief of staff, Peter Ellef, and state contractor William Tomasso are under indictment and could get up to 20 years in prison.
As the investigation against members of Rowland’s administration unfolded, each week brought new and damaging information. He was forced to admit that contractors paid for his home improvements and that state employees bought him a hot tub. Memos revealed that he had accepted Cuban cigars from a state contractor for years.
Rowland’s fate was ultimately sealed by $15,549 in gifts from Tomasso and $91,493 in free airfare from the charter company Key Air. Rowland stayed at Tomasso’s homes in Florida and Vermont four times in 1998 and 2002. Tomasso and other contractors and state employees provided renovations for Rowland’s cottage that included a cathedral ceiling, a heating system and gutter work. ”

I called it weeks ago, there will not be shredder one left at the WillyWallyWorld. More paper to get rid of in all those contractors offices. I sure hope they recycle.
Rachel Maddow’s mother raised her right. Backbone, grace under pressure, impeccable manners, and refusing to yield the point when she knew she was right.

Nobody can surprise Rachel. She’s always meticulously prepared for every interview she conducts. I have never seen her off her guard and that is why she is my heroine too!
Any doubts I had about Rachel Maddow have been extinguished! She was obviously not expecting Frum’s little tirade, but she turned it right back on him! He is so stuck in hating “liberals” that he can’t get past it to be the “intelligence” he craves.
Sorry Frum, but when you have Mr. Bottom 5% and Ms. 5 Colleges you really don’t expect intellectuals, do you?
Tryed to post sumpin about Petty earlier, but must have gone straight to spam. Anyhoooo . . .

Is there really anything with Housegate?
Rachel was great tonight, but, although I disagreed with much of what he said, Frum was trying to make a point that some issues are worthy of in depth discussion. He sounded sad to me- sad his own party was ignoring what is important, and perhaps equally frustrated that the “other side” was making fun of it. Rachel handled it well and I was very proud of her. There was no yelling. The beauty of Rachel and her show is that she is respectful of her guests which seems to make them feel comfortable expressing their views. The fact he felt safe disagreeing with her format and tone actually shows her a great deal of respect. Thank about it…the only time the McCain spokeswoman Nancy F sounded less than totally uptight was on Rachel’s show.
So, that’s my take. Rachel rocks and she proved she had even more class tonight!
(Please be very, very impressed that I am taking the high road. My low road personality wanted to sock him for daring to go against Rachel!)
Cynthia sure looks like it.. There’s a lotta smoke so maybe the fire is just starting to get going.

Yup, Barbara Frum was one of the best, most repected journalists in Canada. Never understood how David turned out as he did. After Palin was picked, Frum wrote an article in the Globe and Mail about what a bad choice it was and I thought to myself, for the first time in my life, I agree with David Frum??

“At that moment, did you see your reflection in the mirror of her eyes? A reflection, not of a maverick, but a pariah? Did you see the decades of American scar tissue?…”
Well, I wasn’t there, but on YouTube I saw what he did, and later feebly tried to undo. I am so glad someone else could put that outrage into words. On Sunday, an older woman I know praised him for trying to contradict those people, “that was the real John McCain.” I told her off, that he might not be totally gone, but almost, and he chose to let those dogs out, just for political traction. oh. then he regretted it.
Has a link to this topic blog & the pic been sent to SNL? It should be!! The pics of the signs from the rallies should be sent to. SNL could do a rally and members could carry authentic worded signs from the rally. One sign I know I laughed at was something about seeing the end of her career from my window.
I haven’t had a chance to read all the message so I don’t know if someone has mentioned it.
Cynthia (18:11:50)
I’m in Arkansas. Been here for 37 of my 55.
This is a hard state to figure. We have a long tradition of voting for Democrats. Both of our senators and 3 of 4 congressmen are Dems. Our current governor is also a Dem. Clinton was governor for a total of 12 years. Dale Bumpers and David Pryor were both governors that went on to the US Senate. (Bumpers is my daughter-in-law’s uncle)
Still, our Dems would be considered moderates, and our population is pretty conservative. We have our fair Southern share of rednecks and bigots, and we’re neck-deep in evangelicals.
I can report, however, that support for Obama is growing. A campaign office opened in my town just a couple of weeks ago and Hillary was in state last week for a rally. Most everyone I’ve talked with will be voting for Obama, and I have to admit that I’ve been surprised by some of them. Hard to say if Obama can take Arkansas, but it could get very interesting.
The Rachel/Frum thing was the best political talk show segment I’ve ever seen.
Forget Olbermann and his “special reports.” Rachel OWNED Frum.
And it was like the Obama campaign guy who handed Hannity’s nuts back to him on a platter: Rachel showed everybody how you take down one of the major propagandameister’s of the rightwing.
The NERVE of Frum, implying that Rachel had sunk to McCain’s level by simply discussing what McCain and Palin had done, when Frum was a speechwriter for BUSH?
Rachel was calm, focused, tenacious, yet respectful. She challenged him on the rightwinger tactic of trying to compare something like McCain/Palin inciting their wackedout crowed to death threats against Obama with liberals bringing up the Keating 5 incident in a time when the economy is being nuked by the kind of avarice and greed that Keating embodied.
Absolutely the best. This will go viral tomrorow.
I understand the concern of the post from “Used to participate” but let’s face it, this election has gotten so silly that intelligent discourse is sort of beside the point. After the food McCain made of himself last week with the bailout vote, and then the incredible stupidity of Palin comparing Obama to a terrorist, what can you say?
Rachel Maddow takes down David Frun on 10/13/2008 Rachel Maddow Show.

ELECTION ALERT: Straight Party Voting Trap
THE PROBLEM: “Straight party voting” on voting machines is revealing a bad pattern of miscounting and omitting your vote, especially if you are a Democrat. Most recently (Oct. 2008), a firm called Automated Election Services was found to have mis-coded the system in heavily Democratic Santa Fe County, New Mexico such that straight party voters would not have the presidential vote counted.
STRAIGHT PARTY VOTING is allowed in 15 states. Basically, it means that you can take a shortcut to actually looking at who you are voting for and instead just select a party preference. Then the voting machine makes your candidate choices, supposedly for the party you requested.
Additional details follow, but first: PROTECT THE COUNT:
Short video launches Black Box Voting “Protect the Count” project – more to come:
From a Poll Tape Posse – http://tiny.cc/A88ju
PROTECT THE COUNT against Straight Party Trap:
1) NEVER CHOOSE THE STRAIGHT PARTY VOTE OPTION, because it alerts the computer as to your party preference and allows software code to trigger whatever function the programmer has designed.
2) SEND THIS INFORMATION OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN, blog it, root n’ toot it out there to get the word out.
3) ESPECIALLY GET THE WORD OUT TO PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING STATES, which have straight party voting options:
Alabama
Indiana
Iowa
Kentucky
Michigan
New Mexico
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
South Carolina
Texas
Utah
West Virginia
Wisconsin
No more stolen votes! http://tiny.cc/BlackBox

You are indeed correct! There are numerous complex relationships existing between and around the power and ideology and indeed the language of seeking to find and establish common ground which in turn frames the intellectual discourse within the normal (and increasingly sub-par) exchange of reasoned political views. This has all flown straight out the window with this election. While usedtoparticpate might enjoy well-reasoned, thoughtful, and quantified political positions distinguished by valid information and logic, this is not going to happen in this election as Obama cannot (according to pundits and political analysis) afford to be seen as the highly educated and intelligent man we know him to be so there is little to have “elite” discourse available as it would all be supposition. What can you do when Palin uncomprehendingly reads the fact that she has been found “ethically challenged” and believes she was not? What can you do when Palin places foreign diplomacy in the geography category and not on issues? How silly would it be to discuss the legal and ethical implications of bombing another sovereign country when she is more interested in the moose her ex-brother-in-law shot 5 years ago? With the United States in dire financial and economic straits and also fighting two wars on two different fronts, you’d think more people would be interested in discussing how to solve those problems rather than serving up innuendo that Obama is “palling around with terrorists” when they know he is not simply to fan the flames of what could be a race and class war. Why even McCain acknowledged last week that Senator Obama was “more than qualified to be President.”
