Despite the inclement weather, the Juneau Mudflats team has good things to report! I got two sets of great photos from Mudflatters Doug, and Judy. And Sandy Beach recounts the event:
I just got back from a very cold, very wet, very windy, but VERY enthusiastic anti-Palin rally. Unlike last weekend, there were plenty of rolling news cameras, microphones, and reporters with little weather-proof notebooks so maybe we’ll get some press! The crowd gathered in front of the Capitol steps, which is right downtown, around the corner from the unoccupied Governor’s Mansion. State employees were encouraged to come in disguise due to fear of reprisals by the Palin administration, a chilling thought. Speakers included fishermen, two pediatricians (including one former head of Alaska Public Health), a former state Game Board rep, college student for gay/lesbian rights who’s about to vote for the first time, two Alaska Native veterans, and someone who read an encouraging letter from Juneau state representative Beth Kertulla. To wrap it up, one of Juneau’s favorite singers, Vicki Van Fleet, belted the following, sung to the tune of Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz (lyrics by Sally O of Homer, Alaska):Oh Lord won’t you make me the Vice President
McCain’s just too soft on the environment
Being mayor of Wasilla was really quite hard
Now I’m Commander–in-Chief of the National Guard
Oh Lord I’m awaiting a heavenly sign
that with my lack of credentials the VP spot is mine!
Forgive my blind ambition and the lies that I have tossed
I must get to DC no matter the cost!!!!
Oh Lord won’t you give me a PR campaign
I’m cuter and younger than old John McCain
My sister’s ex-husband is my only stain
I’m no Tina Fey but I do gotta brain
Oh Lord won’t you make me the Vice President
McCain’s just too soft on the environment
Being mayor of Wasilla was my playing card
and being Vice President can’t be all that hard
Oh Lord won’t you make me the vice-presi – dent!
The reports say about 300 people showed up! To give you an equivalent… If that percentage showed up in Anchorage we’d have had about 3000 people! And that incredible turnout was not only in the pouring rain, but on the steps of the Capitol building in Sarah Palin’s home state! Hey Main Stream Media! Can you hear us NOW??

***GREAT PICTURES!!!
HURRAY!!!! I’VE NEVER BEEN FIRST BEFORE. 🙂
top 10
Thanks and thanks for the hard work and courage to stand up. I needed
this, I’ve spent the whole day on line and just read the following:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-lux/guilt-by-associations_b_133758.html
I need some fresh air. Thanks again for the encouraging site and your work
to keep us all honest.
Hey Sarah, can you see Juneau?
Holy mackerel, that’s a great turnout!! And it sounds like you had a pretty distinguished set of speakers too, AND good media coverage. Too kewl!!
Kudos to the organizers and the participants!
Ah, you beat me to it.
Great protest though.
Good work Juneau!
I hope this report doesn’t disappear into the wordwork. If we weren’t in economic meltdown it wouldn’t. Since we are, perhaps the report will only matter to Alaskans, who ultimately have to deal with the pathologically obsessive first dude.
My favorite part of the report so far is when Monegan let both Todd and Sarah know that if he charged Wooten for shooting the moose he’d also have to charge Sarah’s sister for letting him shoot the moose on her permit, and Sarah’s dad for assisting the crime by accepting the illegally shot moose. Both Todd and Sarah said No, we only want Wooten charged. Absolutely amazing. And Sarah’s out there telling people to read the report as proof of her innocence!!
It may be proof that she didn’t fire Monegan illegally, but it’s also proof that she has let her husband run the governor’s office, and that the two of them are amateurs with absolutely no knowledge of the common ethics that governs good practice, in business or government. It’s like letting a fraternity loose in the governor’s office.
Congrats MJC!!!
Thank you again, Alaska. Great pictures. I think the message is clear from all of us to SP.
Great pictures. I would have loved to be there. Thanks for updating us. You know the MSM will never cover this.
woohooo, Alaskans, makes me wanna dance!
Lemonfair:
“if he charged Wooten for shooting the moose he’d also have to charge Sarah’s sister for letting him shoot the moose on her permit, and Sarah’s dad for assisting the crime by accepting the illegally shot moose. Both Todd and Sarah said No, we only want Wooten ”
WTF! So THEY are ABOVE THE LAW? I am totally amazed at the hubris of dud & ‘cuda!!
And she is running around today saying “she did not break any laws!”
Its really unbelievable!
Now I want to know where to sent all this info so someone starts investigating her and dud, since day one….Wasilla! 😀
Dang, this website is quick! While I was posting my comment for the “upcoming rally” section, the actual rally report and pictures were already written by the time I was finsished. Wow! I’m reposting here:
I was at the VERY RAINY rally this morning from beginning to end – except that I was unable to stay for the music that played after the speakers spoke and the crowd began to mingle with each other, hugging, saying hello, saying “Great Job!” to the various speakers. I’m sure others took better pics than me, since I was at the front of the group listening to the speakers and couldn’t see all the people and signs behind me. I don’t know how many people were there, at least 300, I think? There were people counting us so that number will be announced later. To the forum posters who think the KKK or some weird right wing groups might “infiltrate” the crowd – well I guess you’ve never been to Juneau! No weirdos there, just lots of familiar, wet faces smiling to each other and the speakers – even though some of the signs were suffering structural integrity from the rain. There were some costumes, many signs were covered in plastic, and even the dogs who came with their owners barked appropriately while the speakers voiced their concerns about Gov. Palin not caring or supporting Alaska’s residents, subsistence rights, wildlife, resources, social issues, and children. The rally was very fun, and I’m sure the rain pouring down over our hoods and ball caps just made it that much more fun. The speakers included a University of Alaska student. a couple of local fisherman, a couple Alaskan Natives (one is an attorney) , a doctor, and former State of AK Commissioner. Our local press was there with some of their cameras covered in jackets to protect them from the rain. All in all, it was a good day in Juneau! I will send pics to AKMuckraker and I’m sure there will a lot more sent in as well. Thanks to EVERYONE for your support!!!
Congratulations Juneau!! Wonderful to see the pictures! Super to hear that many individuals spoke out!
The Song & Lyrics — Fantastic!! As I started to read the lyrics, I easily found myself singing them!! Very well done Sally & Vicki!!
One line I took the liberty of changing the lyric as I sang it —
From: “I’m no Tina Fey but I do gotta brain”
To: “I’m no Tina Fey as she has a brain”
Hope to see some pics show up on MSM!
WOW! Kudos to Juneau!
Would love to see her popularity rating in Alaska right now.
Whoo Whoo!!! Congrats Alaskans! Thanks AKM. Great turnout. I really like the sign that says “Don’t be hoodwinked”. Not only is the message important, but the artwork is wonderful! Kudos!
that is excellent. I love the Joe 6-pack signer. That is so great.
Nicely done Alaskans. The MSM has to pay attention to this.
To ALL: FYI
From the Washington Monthly:
In the History of America, the McCain/Palin ticket is the FIRST in which BOTH candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election. The Keating 5 for McCain & Troopergate for Palin.
Great Rally AK.
I believe we only got a morsel of the report to chew on . I BETCHA there is ALOT that is kept from us. Why would GOP try so hard to squash just a slap on the wrist. MSN last night said if she and her family felt threaten by Wooten WHY when she became GOV she let her sercurity go.I think we have not heard the last of this. IN my opinion only : Some kind of deal was made until after NOV 5th. Only time will tell
Congratulations Juneau on your successful rally. Pic are great!! Super to hear the individuals who spoke out!!
The Song — Fantastic!! As I started to read the lyrics, quickly I found myself singing!! Fortunately for you, you can’t hear me!! Great job Sally & Vicki!!
I did take the liberty though as I was signing, to change a line of the lyrics — I hope you don’t mind as it just seemed right as the time
From: I’m no Tina Fey but I do gotta brain
To: I’m no Tina Fey cause she has a brain
Hope we get the opportunity to see pics & story in MSM!!!
I loved the ‘Quayle with lipstick’ sign! lol!
Wonder if “hockey mom” will get whistled tonight for “hooking” The “Philly Phanatic” will be in attendance.
akm, that vp song is priceless. is audio available?

oh, God love you great Alaskans! God love ya!
More pics at http://www.hickatheart.blogspot.com – the rally was great!
richie: There were news cameras rolling throughout the song so with any luck, it will show up on a newscast. I’ll post a link if I find one.
It was great to be part of such a enthusiastic rally! 🙂
Good for you! I’m so annoyed at the mainstream media not covering this more. If it weren’t for Mudflats I’d never know of any of the anti-Palin sentiments considering the mainstream media is too busy following the hate-monger around on the campaign trail and aren’t talking about the implications of her behavior as governor.
Amazing! Just got home from knocking on doors here in Pittsburgh. This was about my 14th time volunteering and until this week, I can say that every single time has been absolutely exhilarating. But we’re getting down to the “undecideds” and “borderlines.” The lists have been narrowed down through call-banks and person-to-person canvassing so most of the definite Obama supporters are now identified and left off of our lists. It was a tough day out there. I needed to see this! Thank you, AKM & Brothers and Sisters of the Northlands! You are an independent and inspiring bunch!
My name is “Let’sGetReal for “That One” and I’m an AKM addict!
Don’t worry about what anyone says! Don’t pay attention to the polls! People can lie! Make sure that you get out and VOTE! Vote early! Don’t wait until the last minute! Help the people who did wait until the last minute! The republicans will not give up so easy! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
OBAMA/BIDEN 08-12!
Can’t seem to find a cctv stream to the Philly hockey game, please, please can somebody watch it and post what happens.
Way to go Juneau. From rural Alaska. We can see Juneau from here!
Do you think the campaign has gotten wind of this blog yet??? That would be sooo fabulous if they checked it!! Of course they would probably try and shut it down to. Ah well. Does the campaign pay attention to these protests? I hope so and I hope it makes them uncomfortable and boiling mad.

Nice job, Juneau!
Great job!
I hate how they denounce these as “Pro-Obama” rallies, when plainly the message is CLEAR. NO PALIN!
Go Alaska!
Good turnout at the Rally. Congrats for hanging in there (with the foul weather and all). Thanks for the write-up and pics, AKM! I loved the *don’t be hoodwinked* too, and *Lie baby lie*. Kinda says it all.
6:38 PM EDT and Scarah’s already in the house at the Wachovia Center (Philly). Gaaah…and gag.
Godzella get her due. One of my favorite signs was, “nice shoes, scary views”–oh so true!
Recall for the hate mongering campaign now. Alaska is better than that. Some people are born elsewhere, but they move to Alaska and they “get it” right way. We are diverse and we are on the way to healing the wounds of the past. Palin was born elsewhere, has been here most of her life, but she hasn’t let the real Alaska sink in somehow. Pity.
AWE-SOME! Go Alaska! We ARE hearing you, so keep it up
JUST SAY NO to McPalin

I suggest whenever you see something hopeful like this do what I do: copy the text & post it to, say, the Drudge Retort tips page:
http://www.drudgereport.com/cgi-bin/fastfeedback.cgi
or his buddy’s BreitBart page:
http://www.breitbart.com/contact.php
or any other media contact page. They won’t print it, of course. But it’ll take some of their time to look at it and maybe make them wonder: ‘McCain doesn’t stand a chance.’
If the so-called MSM doesn’t cover these things perhaps they will when 100s of Mudflatters keep sending it to them! I’m unemployed & can’t do much to help bring about change but this is something I can do. Pass it on!
Obama’s Response to the John Lewis Statement:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/11/john-lewis-warns-mccain-y_n_133903.html
Senator Obama does not believe that John McCain or his policy criticism is in any way comparable to George Wallace or his segregationist policies. But John Lewis was right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric that John McCain himself personally rebuked just last night, as well as the baseless and profoundly irresponsible charges from his own running mate that the Democratic nominee for President of the United States ‘pals around with terrorists.’ As Barack Obama has said himself, the last thing we need from either party is the kind of angry, divisive rhetoric that tears us apart at a time of crisis when we desperately need to come together. That is the kind of campaign Senator Obama will continue to run in the weeks ahead.
UK Lady- I’m sure there will be clips online of the Palin event. If she gets booed, it will be on Huffpo for sure. If she gets cheered, it’ll show up on McShame’s website (and probably Hannity).
Hockey
Thank you so much for trying. Couldn’t find a cctv link on that site, but have found radio link on official site.
Thanks Disenchanted Tore – keep it coming!
I’m calling Women in PA. I started my spill about me being a volunteer for Senator Obama, and she hung up on me…like slammed the phone down.
Gosh…these people are so hostile, and angry!!! I am so tempted to call her back, and ask her if she is having a bad day, and say God bless her!
This web page has a link that will open a radio broadcast of the puck drop

I am so proud of all who participated!
Thank you for taking our citizenship so seriously, and rightly representing all of us.
Cheers from a lower 48!
I’m watching on Philly TV… I’ll Keep you posted….
not long now….
let me know if someone throws a stuffed toy pig on the ice
the carpet’s out
Carpet?! carpet?! don’t they make the ninny skate?!!
music is very load and sounds like she brought willow and piper with her
some other hockey mom …. sahah now …..the music is too loud to to hear
You’re so funny UK lady!
I think it bears repeating that this kind of protest is pretty much unheard of in Alaska, at least to the best of my knowledge, (I have only been a resident 7 years). Sarah is going to have a pretty tough time when she gets back home if people keep up this kind of pressure, which I hope they do.
[…] October 11, 2008 by angryxer Anti-Palin rally in extremely soggy Juneau today. This just in from AK Muckraker over yon Mudflats way (more photos & story here): […]
boos but cheering too. UGH Hard to tell, loud music. 2 of her kids with her….
they kept the music in the arena on full blast untill she was gone 😦
Just listened to the “puck drop” = mixed bag of boos and cheers, about 1/2, 1/2
announcers said reaction was mixed, but the music was so loud you couldn’t hear any boos. “Mixed at Best” said radio announcer
they just said there were plenty of “boos”… “a mixed reaction”…. and the daughter was with her…. a shield methinks.
MJC
Tell the boyfriend would you, he thinks I’m certifiable!
The Philly fans once threw snowballs at Santa Claus. The loud noise must have been a dodge to protect her. Did the ‘ultimate hockey mom’ (they had a contest) come out onto the ice also?
They did a risk avoidance by the sound of it. LOUD music.
Great job with the rally!
To follow up on @lemonfair The moose business really illustrates something Time Magazine has pointed out about the report: “it convincingly answers a question nobody had even thought to ask: Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so.”
This is probably more significant to many people than the technicalities surrounding how to interpret “ethics” versus “legality.”

More on What Makes Troopergate So Dangerous
by Kagro X
Sat Oct 11, 2008 at 03:05:07 PM PDT
A month ago, we were asking What Makes Troopergate So Dangerous and noting that there was a pronounced half-assed Cheneyist quality to Sarah Palin’s approach to “governance.”
The release of the Branchflower report on Troopergate lays it all bare, and Palin’s response to it makes the case against electing her:
“If you read the report, you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member,” Palin said as boarded her campaign bus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “You got to read the report.”
But as the very next sentence of the CNN report cited above says:
Palin violated state ethics law by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator’s report for the bipartisan Legislative Council concluded Friday.
Palin says there was nothing unlawful or unethical, just read the report. And the report says? It was unlawful and unethical.
That, under normal circumstances, would tell you all you need to know: the Republican Vice Presidential candidate is a certifiable loon, dangerously disconnected from reality.
But wait, there’s more!
Even if you had some reason to grant her this fantasy that she’d done nothing illegal — and it’s difficult to do when Branchflower cites the very section of the Alaska code she violated — this would still go to the very essence of what makes something that is not by itself illegal nonetheless an abuse of power.
The McCain camp’s spin here is that since the report makes no recommendation that criminal charges be leveled, it’s therefore a case of “no harm, no foul.”
But abuse of power is very real, even though sometimes it’s not by itself a violation of the law (notwithstanding the fact that, again, in this case it actually is). It’s the position of the people the governor and her husband pressured as subordinates that creates the problem here. Anybody else calling the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety this many times after being told repeatedly that such contacts are illegal, create liability, and must cease — and having the relevant law saying so read to them — just gets hung up on. But there was no stopping the obsessive, vindictive Palins, even as Commissioner Monegan warned them explicitly that this could eventually create an enormous political problem for them. Instead, the Palins preferred and indeed insisted on delivering the message behind Monegan’s dismissal: refuse to do this governor (and her husband) illegal favors and you will be fired too.
Did she have the legal authority to fire Monegan for no reason? Yes. Did she have the legal authority to do so for personal gain? No.
That is what abuse of power is. Doing it anyway.
Consider now how all of this squares with the fact that Sarah Palin in her debate with Joe Biden said she thought the power of the vice presidency could be increased even beyond where Darth Cheney already has brought it.
Add to that the fact that Palin now stands before the press and public, and lies squarely to our faces that the report doesn’t say what it says in black and white. This is perhaps no great feat for her, given that she continues to this day to insist she didn’t support the Bridge to Nowhere, despite the fact that that lie has become a national joke.
What might this mean, that a McCain/Palin administration would seek to increase her powers as Vice President beyond Cheney’s already insane overreaching, and that at the same time she insists that her plain violation of the law was no violation at all?
When the President does it, that means that it’s not illegal.
Yes.
That’s what you get when you hand a ham-fisted idiot the keys to the city state country, folks.
Elect these nutbars, and Todd Palin will be renditioning people who cut him off in traffic.
* ::
Just curious, what the hell did Santa do to deserve that?
I’m beginning to think she is using her kids as protection, knowing full well that decent people won’t vent angriy at her in front of young children. What a piece of work she is – to even put her children at potential risk like this is contemptible. This is no earth-mother, this is someone who would eat her own young to push her own agenda.
Yea, today the Philly news had a statement from the Flyers owner saying it wasn’t political, it’s hockey mom night.
I think they kept the music up load to avoid embarrassment. A lot of people apparently complained to the Flyers’s office.
What a bust! I saw hands clapping and thumbs pointing down for Scarah. The music was so loud you couldn’t hear anything in the background.
Yes also, the ultimate hockey mom was there also. 😉
Now I’m turning it off….. I won’t watch a team that’s owned by a scumbag that would invite a scumbag!!!! …….Now I have a reason to get the DISH (flyers owner also owns local Comcast Cable.)
When Palin, during the VP Debate, stated that she was considering an expanded role for the Vice Presidency (due to the inherent ‘flexibility’ in the constitution) was she referring to a Co-VP role for her rube husband?
I am so very proud of the Alaskans who are standing firm and speaking out. I only wish I could have been there. Great Job!!!
UK lady turning turtle Palinps: he just showed up! Philly is supposed to be the only stadium that has a holding cell on its premises. They’ve thrown rocks and cans at players. Just a rowdy bunch. They cheer when an opposing player gets hurt.
BigPete (15:18:43) :
When Palin, during the VP Debate, stated that she was considering an expanded role for the Vice Presidency (due to the inherent ‘flexibility’ in the constitution) was she referring to a Co-VP role for her rube husband?
It wouldn’t surprise me at all! Of course that’s what she meant, King & Queen!
You Betcha!”
I think they didn’t want to boo the kids and the ultimate hockey mom either.
Imagine if that were you, the ultimate hockey mom with your youth team there and you have the misfortune of being on the ice with SWWNBN!
Alaska newspapers’ web sites may be ignoring our rally but residents of Fort Mills, SC can follow our activities!

Yay Fort Mill!
Chascates
What a hoot! think I’d like hockey.
Would have been sorely tempted if I’d been standing next to pitpig with a hockey stick, they might have needed the holding cell.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the nation’s most popular hockey mom, will join the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers regional search for the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest and drop the puck at the ceremonial opening face-off as the home team Flyers host the New York Rangers at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
“Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started,” said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider who founded the Flyers in 1967. “We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey.”
If she does for hockey what she has done for Alaska politics, the Flyers are in deep moose shit
2-0 RANGERS OVER THE FLYERS….. take that (this is hard for me, I’ve benn a flyers fan since 1970s)
pvazwindy (15:25:21) :
Santa’s revenge – it will be reindeer poop!
I knew it! The Palin curse has been planted! Two minutes into the game and the Flyers are losing 2-0!!
Scarah H. Pitbull, will you PLEASE GO NOW!!
You’re right kate, I’ll bet the her handlers demanded the loud music to help drown out the boos they knew were coming. I Tivo’d it, and just watched it several times, and there were definitely a lot of boos if you listened closely.
They introduced the winner of the hockey Mom contest first, and she got a good amount of cheers. Then, even before they announced Palin, as she was standing with Piper and Willow near the ice, the boos were loud and definitely audible over the loud music. When they announced her name, and she began to walk out to center ice, the boos got louder, and then they turned up the music even more to try and drown them out.
A complete joke on the Flyers part. I hope Keith takes the tape and plays it tomorrow with the sound of the music masked out, you will definitely hear a lot more boos than cheers.
Incidentally, Piper wore a Flyers jersey, the other two were dressed as they usually are.
I just want to add my two cents- –
You Alaskans are a shining example of what a healthy democracyis all about.
Participate in it or let the McCain/Palin/
Bush/Cheney/Co run roughshod over our rights
and hijack our beautiful country.
Thank you for putting ‘country first.’
ps I voted for you guys for best political blog.

Didn’t know how to send a new message but my brother just drove by the Pro Palin rally on the Knik river flats (right at the old Turner log cabin model home) and he had to call me on cell and laugh because only like 18 people were there in Palinista mode. Hope you see this, but hey you might have even driven by yourself! Are those same 20-50 people on her payroll? Seems to be the same people who show up at Tailgaters in Wasilly town for every Palin media event. OR could it be that she only has 20-50 people that support her up here? People that she has not fired on otherwise disenfranchised in some way? Just my two cents and GO OBAMA!
NY Dem
Brilliant idea, techies can do that can’t they? Maddow, Stewart, Olbermann where are you? are you listening?
Doug, Judie, Sandy, Martha and the others who braved cold, windy wet weather:
WE HEAR YOU Juneau in Southern California!
Thanks for blogging all through this.
I t would have been so much more difficult to obtain the real inside information instead of the “snow job” the McCain campaign has doled out.
It should not have surprised me, but I was, at the altered reality of the reaction of the campaign to the report. SHE DENIED DOING ANY THING WRONG!!!!
This fact alone without anything else, should tell Americans that a McCain/Pailn victory in Nov. would be 4 more years of the same.
3 – 0 now – just 8:00 in !!!
Talk about a jinx !!!!
I’m a Buffalo Sabres fan first, but the Rangers are my second team. Thanks for dropping the puck Sarah and screwing the season for the Flyers !
Video on YouTube, Palin booed in Philly:
Wow. I can’t believe Palin brought her kids with her onto the ice. That’s just despicable.
By the way, I am agnostic, and it pisses me off beyond belief how many so-called religious people of all religions use hatred, fear, lies, and ugliness to get what they want.
Juneau, excellent protest. I love the ‘Don’t be hoodwinked’ sign. It would really warm this cynic’s heart if Alaska goes light blue!
now 3-0!! OMG Ed, what did you do???!!!!

( But we’re not at Election Day yet, and if voters are to have their final say, both America and Obama have to get there safely. The McCain campaign has crossed the line between tough negative campaigning and inciting vigilantism, and each day the mob howls louder. The onus is on the man who says he puts his country first to call off the dogs, pit bulls and otherwise. )
(sound of typewriters clacking…)
Breaking news from the Anchorage Daily News: Geoduck Season Opens Today! Oh, wait, wasn’t there a large political rally in Juneau?? I guess the ADN Juneau bureau pigeon bearing the story hasn’t arrived in Anchorage yet. hmmmm.
Congratulations Juneau-ites– from Lonesome Doug a few weeks ago to 300+! In the rain, no less.
Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Juneau.
Juneau who?
Juneau who built Todd and Sarah’s house?????
ds55, thanks for the link. You can definitely hear the boos. I feel so sorry for her kids.
a funny from 23/6

ds55… that was DEFINITE boo-ing! LOL I can’t believe she used her children again as a shield. Poor things.
Juneau – we hear you in Chicago!! You guys are AWESOME! And thank you Mudflats for keeping the rest of us up to speed. Great pictures too – those signs really cracked me up (my personal favorite being: Liar, Liar, Lips on Fire).
The only MSM coverage of this I could find (as of 6:30pm CST), is an article in the SC Fort Mill Times (huh?):
HUNDREDS ATTEND ANTI-PALIN RALLY AT ALASKA CAPITOL
“At least 200 people protesting the policies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin rallied in the pouring rain outside the state Capitol. They carried signs with sayings like “Confidence does not competence” and “Real women are not lipstick wearing pitbulls.”
Unlike other pro- or anti-Palin rallies that have been held around the state, the Saturday morning event did not draw a counter protest.
Former state public health director Peter Nakamura told the crowd that Palin has done little to insure quality health care for Alaskans.
Paula Terrel, a commercial fisherman, described Palin’s record protecting fisheries as “dismal” and Tony Strong, an attorney and Tlingit Indian, said Palin was no friend to Alaska Natives.”
Thank you Fort Mill, SC. Sure hope this gets some wider coverage.

My hubby is so disgusted he turned the Flyers game off! If he wasn’t totally on board before (he had reservations about Obama’s leadership), he’ll show up to vote now for sure! lol
AAaarrrrgghhhh! watched youtube but music was so loud couldn’t tell, can never split sounds up very well.
Saw the clip on Youtube, too. Are those kids ever in school?
Vlad,
I think that it is funny that people find her “authentic”. I don’t even think that her glasses are real.
besides…she will be older in 4 years and I don’t think that those extra wrinkles will do anything to win over those Joe-6-packs and Hocky moms.

Thank you, Juneau!!
I really liked all the signs, and I do support all of your efforts. Brave of you all in such a small city (and in the cold rain!).
Could not wait to check here to see how it went — I hope it gets on the news down here in the lower 48.
Many thanks, Alaska!
@ copybook: I don’t think her glasses are real either. Why wouldn’t she just wear contacts, she’s obviously so concerned about her appearance? I think the glasses are just plain glass, she wears them to look more intelligent. Any Alaskans know whether Palin actually needs glasses? Did she wear them when she was younger?

Yes, loved the Obama signs on the hockey video, also (oops) some thumbs down.
Do you have a link to the New Yorker cartoon on page 16?
I am absolutely crazy about you guys here! Thank you for this site and thank you Alaskans for speaking up! I check into mudflats several times a day and have told everyone I know in the New York, New Jersey area to get on board and read here with me. Keep it up! Why can’t we all write to the networks and get your info out there??? I am amazed your courage and search for truth has not been rewarded with more coverage. Bravi!

Back at the Flyres game, Coatesy’s Corner between periods- Steve is interviewing Scarah! Of course she takes over the conversation and reveals that (…being her son’s team manager aka team Mom), she took on the *executive* duties! LOLOL
Also, she told her son not to just pick on players but to *board them- do something*!
OMG! ‘Nuff!
Okay, I’m done pouting now.
But Vlad, what did Delaware?
Please don’t think that if the MSM does not cover your rallies that it was all for naught. We hear you down here and we’re seeing your photos and we’re spreading the word. So keep it up Alaskans, you’re doing a good job. I just hope that if she doesn’t get into the WH–god help us all if she does–that somehow you all can get her out of Alaskan politics.
Alaskan’s for TRUTH AND LIBERTY…
We HEAR you in WASHINGTON!
Thanks for your hard work and dedication.
I am so proud of you!
Let’s GetReal for “That One”, I’m sorry you’re having a rough time of it. Bless you for trying and doing it the Obama way, with love and class.

Nice to see that Obama sign in the upper right corner of the youtube vid. Thanks for posting it!
One thing about something someone said up near the top… Sarah Palin may have the boobs and the butt, but she’s a bit lacking in the brain department. Why else would it take her 6 colleges to get her journalism degree?? And why is a journalism graduate incapable of stringing together coherent sentences??
If I were that other hockey mom (not possible considering I’m not that gender), I’d have worn an Obama button… or maybe a white button with red-lettered AIP, with the red circle and slash around/over the AIP letters.
I think the glasses are real. Probably Transitions which dont shrink or expand the appearance of the eyeballs. Nothing wrong with her wearing glasses; many Americans choose glasses over contacts (me included).
Great picture of LipstickPig dropping the puck with the crowd holding Obama/Biden signs behind her. Heh.
You can find it here: http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/2008/10/boo-birds.html
Quote:
“So, how did Philadelphia Flyers fans greet Sarah Palin, who was on hand tonight for the ceremonial puck-drop?
Watching on Comcast, it seemed like there was an avalanche of boos when she walked out — boos that were almost immediately drowned out by blaring, bombastic music.
There is no doubt in my mind that that the music was ordered up to help tamp down what could have been an even more embarrassing moment.
The weirdest part of it was that Palin, who had to know she was going to be booed, walked out with her cutie pie 7-year-old daughter, Piper.
Why do I have a feeling that poor Piper will be discussing being booed by thousands with a therapist in about 10 years?”
Poor, poor Piper.
They’re sure as hell covering ACORN @@ I think I know who I’m sending my monthly charitable donation to next month.

Maybe Palin honestly believes all of the US are white, stupid, bitter people filled with hatred for Obama and Biden? I can’t understand why they allowed little Piper out there, maybe to keep people from throwing stuff.
So what in the heck is Palin going to do with a live SNL audience in a couple of weeks? Blast more music? I read today that it is a done deal that she will appear on SNL Oct 25th. (much to my disgust – I actually had emailed Lorne Michaels about this & asking SNL not to stoop to having her on the show given that she has not offered up ONE press conference yet. NOT ONE. Grr).

Is Palin “a reformer” like she claims??
Originally LA Times, now Houston Chronicle and beyond:
“WASHINGTON — Big business was granted wide access to Sarah Palin’s office during her first 20 months as Alaska governor, but she rarely met with labor, environmental or other groups pressing alternative views, her official calendar shows.
On at least three dozen occasions, the Republican vice-presidential nominee spoke with executives and lobbyists working for a wide array of energy, mining and tourism enterprises with major investments in Alaska.
Among those who visited Palin’s Juneau office multiple times were the chief executives of Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips, as well as several dozen other top oil and gas company officials….”

Shame on them. He was right. The religion thing is SWWNBN’s thing… the gun thing has yet to come up. McLame will bring it out very soon.
I don’t think it’s the republicans I have trouble with. It’s the Ultra-Conservatives. The gun-totin’, bible-thumpin’, hood wearin’, close-minded individuals that are still angry that they lost the war.

For those sincerely concerned about their right to bear arms (and there are hundreds of thousands in this category), it bears repeating. Obama on right to bear arms and on hunting and fishing:
“Hunting and fishing are not just recreational pursuits, they are part of our national heritage. America’s hunters and anglers uphold a tradition that connects generations and brings families and friends together across our great nation. Today, we celebrate this tradition and the conservation legacy of hunters and anglers. “National Hunting and Fishing Day is a time to reaffirm our commitment to America’s sportsmen. As President, I will protect the right to bear arms, increase access to places to hunt and fish, take on polluters and clean up our streams and lakes, and protect our nation’s important wildlife habitat and wetlands. I will enhance programs that encourage young people to hunt and fish and respect and protect the outdoors. “Our nation’s sportsmen have made sure that this and future generations can enjoy our natural resources and wildlife. As President, I will stand with them and ensure that America’s hunting and fishing heritage endures.”
I bet if you removed Drusilla Paling’s makeup, you’d find Ken Lay.
While I agree in principle with the right to bear arms, I also know that there was a drive-by shooting in the next town, my home town last night. A man was killed. That is NOT the intention of that part of the constitution. It’s radicals of any sort with guns that scares me.

And this is not the first time time they’ve reported on rallies in Alaska. 🙂
Also Obama has Christian faith of his own and great respect for religion and faith-based initiatives that lift up families in communities. He does not, however, impose that faith on others.
By the way, all the way from Arkansas!
So, how come there was such a low voter turnout in the local Juneau election? Saving your strength for November?

From Andrew Halcro’s post of Sept. 13 regarding Murlene Wilkes
Issue: During the joint judiciary committee meeting yesterday, special investigator Steve Branchflower mentioned the need to supoena Murlene Wilkes, the owner of Harbor Adjustors, who has a contract with the State of Alaska to process claims for workers compensation.
Branchflower said there appears to have been some pressure put on the company from the governor’s office to deny Trooper Wooten’s workers compensation claim. The admission came from an employee of Harbor Adjustors, who apparently refused to go along with the pressure to deny the claim.
Fact: This is an email I received on August 18:
Item that may be of small interest to you, the ADN has had it for a week and done zero with it.
Officer Wooten had a workers comp claim on a back injury that went through Harbor Adjustors (Murlene Wilkes). Skinny is that the Gov’s office advised his claim should be denied.
Gave the claim office photos of the officer on a snowmachine (undated/Palin-family taken shots)
HA handed it over to legal to handle (Murlene didn’t want to get in the middle of what was obviously something personal, and as her only source of income is with a vindictive State gov contract, doesn’t want to come out on this issue).
End of day, Wooden got pennies on the dollar for his claim, they wouldn’t even pick up for the chiropractor.
Any of you lose friends over this election?
I have, but it’s the price I am willing to pay right now.
I’m so proud of Juneau! Keep up the amazing work you’re doing.
And thanks, again, AKM.
The UK TimesOnline article was a real eyeopener. I believe SWWNBN really IS angry that John McCain is pissing on her cornflakes. She actually BELIEVES that she deserves this position. By the time Scarah can run on her own, maybe John will have exposed her in a book explaining his loss to the American people…or Cindy might so it for him???
Workers comp is pretty open and shut; he didn’t sue and he could have. That matter seems settled via the Branchflower Report and his apparent signing off on the claim.
The glasses too–most everyone needs glasses at forty-ish. Big deal? No.
cmac, Probably the campaign will demand they pack the audiene (supporters). If they did demand — the show should have told them to go whistle. But, you know ratings!!

Teresa (16:30:49) :
what’s wrong with ACORN?
************************
Teresa, ACORN is a community organizing group that my cousin has her knickers in a twist over. She insists Obama is in bed with them. His website says he was asked to represent them in Ilinois’ “motor voter” case. They are being investigated in several states for registering people several times or registering non-existent people (the entire Dallas Cowboys team in Colorado…). Last Thursday, ACORN came up in an interview on Fresh Air on NPR. Terri Gross was interviewing David Iglesias (the first of Alberto Gonzalas’ fired US attorneys). Iglesias said acorn was investigated in N. Mexico for voter reg fraud, but it turned out to be limited to one person who was being paid per new registration and he/she was trying to increase his/her pay. Here in Oregon, we have outlawed paying signature gatherers on a per signature basis b/c of similar tactics by a pesky right wing abuser of our initiative system. I’ve learned that I can quickly go through my voters pamphlet and if the measure has Bill Sizemore’s name on it, I vote against it.
Because of my cousin’s views, I looked around for information on acorn, but pretty much everything I found online was put out by right wing conspiracy theorists. I didn’t look beyond the first page of google results, but it didn’t appear this has ever gotten any traction in the msm. Someone out there, please correct me if I’m wrong…
Way to go, Juneau! You folks in Alaska are a true inspiration!
And in the Flyers vids–in many of them, you can see Scarah telling the guy she’s with, “They’re booing me!” She’s not even fazed by it…
Have a great night all!
We love you AKM in Oregon!
Hurray for Juneau!

I can’t wear contacts. My eyes are too dry. She wore glasses as a kid. Maybe she chooses to wear eyeglasses over contacts to look more credible. I think it’s the least of the problems the US would encounter with Sarah as VP.
Just watched a CNN special on the health of the president that totally ticked me off. Did you know Obama is only a year older than Biden when he had his aneurysm? WTF? Why even raise that suggestion? Talked about Obama’s smoking. How ’bout the years McCain smoked, though they did say that after 10 years smoke-free, the risk of certain cancers decreases by 50% .
Regarding McCain’s melanoma, no return since 2000. The lump on the side of his face is the result of the surgery and not indicative of illness. I don’t wish the man ill (just wish he never holds national office), so good news on the melanoma front.
Surprised there was no discussion of his years as a POW and how that could affect McCain mentally. “My fellow prisoners…”
Great pictures, and considering the weather. Darned good turnout.
I would suspect you are not only getting the attention of the MSM, but also of your local politicians.
As a great-grandmother, it makes me angry that Governor Palin is using her children to stifle any criticism of her, or her actions.
AKM, I’ve said this dozens of times, since I’ve been reading your blog. But, it always bears repeating: Thank you for all that you and your fellow Alaskans do to preserve and protect our constitutional way of life.

I could not wait to check here to see how it went — I hope it gets on the news down here in the lower 49+, and all around the world.
I had a good time at the Peace Lovers for Obama rally here today, not a real big rally, more like a grandmothers tea party, with a dozen or so women all talking about how we could help support Obama and make sure he stays safe doing the work he has to do to get elected. We also talked about what people all over are doing and are not feeling so alone hanging out here in this red state.
I also stopped by and got more Obama signs, as the one I had in the yard, didn’t disappear but caused my neighbor don the street to ask if I could get her one.

That kid has been tutored in politics her whole life. Expect to see her on some ticket one day. It’s more than a little frightening to watch a politician in training.
On the one hand, she’s had exposure to a lot as her mother is on the campaign trail, and that’s its own education. On the other hand, what happened to the idea of childhood? Play dates?
As others have noted, it was more than despicable for me that she shlepped those kids out onto the ice. Talk about human shields!
John Lewis’ statement on the mob mentality McC/Palin stir up—notes George Wallace in statement. This from McCain’s “most admired” from the first forum. McCain’s response and Obama’s response.

Wonderful news! Great photos. Thank you so much for that.
Now for this….chilling and honest appraisal of Palin’s abuse of power and the radical right.

Surrounding the Obama family in a bubble of white light. Please help. It’s a big job and important job 😉
Ugh! Just got my computer back after a carpet installation. This morning I entered a post using my bloody cell phone and…of course, I closed it before it was finished loading. Too much Palin brain, and tired from hangin out late here last night.
Anyway, just another voice from the Chi, sayin Great job Juneau, and to all who participated in the rain. The signs, articles and songs were crazy.
Oh and from my missing a.m. note; I was hoping the Philly crowd would turn their backs on SP and drop trou. hehehe
Poll update: 10/9/08
New Hampshire and New Jersey from “leaning Obama” to “solid Obama”.
West Virgina from “leaning McCain” to “toss us”.
Virginia from “toss up” to “leaning Obama”.
But, heads up Minnesota, Minnesota from “solid Obama” to “leaning Obama”. Action in Minnesota needed, please. Letters to the editor, calls, more.

‘Hockey Mom’ Palin Greeted By “Resounding (Almost Deafening) Boos” At Hockey Game (VIDEO)
E&P reports that Sarah Palin was greeted with a chorus of boos at the Philadelphia Flyers game where she dropped the puck at the Flyers’ opener:
Bringing along the two girls as her flak jacket (sp?) is so, so sad. It is another example of not providing protection for her children. They (and any underage child of any candidate) need to be shielded from all this as much as possible. I am a mom and a child psychologist- when I see those little ones I just want to beg their grandparents to take them home to Alaska and resume their normal routine as much as circumstances permit.
Great Pics and Rally Reports.
Alaskans, thanks for the boost.
My delight about the Juneau rally went awry! So proud of all of you!
TimesOnline article was great. Don’t worry about a 2012 ticket with Palin on it, though. I think John will be writing a book to explain the massive loss he is about to sustain and he’ll tell us more about SWWNBN that we ever wanted to know…if he doesn’t, Cindy will.
I didn’t see the query before about CBJ election and low voter turnout. It was City Assembly, school board, and one ballot measure, a new playground. It was a pretty low-key election. I know there will be GREAT turnout in November.
SA: don’t know which speaker you were but you were great! 🙂
@Teresa (17:12:13) :
Any of you lose friends over this election?
I have, but it’s the price I am willing to pay right now.

Teresa, any student of human development can tell you that shared values is an important part of successful relationships. Politically, I am for people – and anyone who isn’t for people has no place in my all-too-short life. 😉

ick I need to wipe my computer down with Lysol after going there…..but she was quoted:
“The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”
@Donna (17:27:33) :
Here’s the MSNBC report about hockey game: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27136268/

Co-incidentally, this report has a pic of Sarah with no glasses ….. no contest about why she wears corrective specs.
Hockey puck drop a DUD. Palin BOOED in Philly

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Juneau.
Juneau who?
Juneau who built Todd and Sarah’s house?????

Don’t I love it? You betcha.
In the reporting I’ve seen on the Troopergate findings, no one mentions what happens next. If the investigation has revealed that Palin broke the state ethics law, shouldn’t there be repercussions?
Do any of you in Alaska have any idea what the next steps are? Will she EVER have to face consequences?
What simply blows me away is her apparent lack of shame or any kind of understanding that she has done wrong. Everything seems to roll off of her like water off a duck’s back.
Now I know I’m somewhat neurotic but I would be hiding in my closet after a report came out about my ethics…but she just smiles and waves. Is that a kind of personality disorder or is she just a strong woman? I don’t get it…
A couple stories on Huffington Post about ACORN:

Yes, they have problems with some of their volunteers and need a better system, but they are trying to do good work. I am more outraged at the systematic oppression by the GOP of poor voters.
I also think she brought the kids as a buffer, but I sure wouldn’t have put my child in that situation.
I can’t believe she said Obama hates babies! What in the world! That’s just the craziest thing I’ve heard. Does she take drugs?
I think I’ll have that song stuck in my head all day now…and I’ll love it 😀
By the way, I’m watching the LSU-Florida game, and the sideline reporter, Tracy somebody prefaced one of her comments with, “My friends”. Is she trying to subtly give a shout-out to McCain?

Oh, my! Imagine if the cameras had no place to turn! 😀
Reports I’m hearing about ACORN is that they pay their folks by the hour, but you may still have folks who must meet a quota and unfortunately forge registration applications.
Randi Rhodes (a very progressive radio host on AmericaLeft) said that ACORN must turn in all apps, even though they’ve checked them and noted that they’re bogus. Rethugs are desperate!!
CONGRATULATIONS MUDFLATS/ALASKA on you successful Rally!! Loved the signs!! :>) Loved your BRAVERY!! :>)
You might have heard the “dust-up” re: Mr. John Lewis’s statements about McOLD’s/The Gov’s Racially hostile campaign environment.
Here’s an article for you consideration.

House Gate new thread….
AKM is on the trail…
She did use the kid as a shield, this from a Wilmington Fox channel:
A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”
Here is the link:
http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/11/palin-drops-puck-at-flyers-game-receives-mixed-reaction/
I think it is sick to drag your kids through the ice chips like that. I was even more appauled this morning when I heard her say at a rally on MSNBC “John McCillhim knows what abuse of power in Washington looks like, and we’re going to reform it” The nerve…
Okay. That does it. Using a child in that way (putting little Piper in a Flyers jersey to deflect boos) is beyond the pale.
I want a pitchfork. Now.
Oh, wait. Housegate? Wait for meeeeeee
I want to make a public apology for the stupidness that is the old woman at the McCain rally (the one calling Obama an Arab as if it were a bad thing). I just read this in Huffington:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-uptake/mccain-responds-to-arab-a_b_133820.html
I am completely disgusted.
First of all I would like to say that I am thrilled and awed by the courage and bravery of Alaska to go out there and withstand the discomforts of the rain and the cold and the wind, in order to bring truth and the real messages about SWWNBN. The signs were strokes of genius and just too hilarious. You are so creative. I am so proud of you. We hear you down here in Victorville, California and we say keep on with the good fight, because we definitely are there with you in spirit.
Siege..
You need to understand, which as a psychologist you should understand that Failin is a sociopath and probably a megalomaniac. She clearly has delusions of grandeur and perhaps even more dangerous tendencies. Perhaps a psychopath?
Clearly, she has no concern for her kids, her husband or anyone beyond herself. She’s only in this for herself, and we probably all would agree that deep down, she is also rooting for McOld to die, as soon as possible so she can do something perhaps no one ever considered in the history of the USA. She’d become, in no particular order, a woman, a possible traitor, a possible adulterer, a confirmed idiot, a power abuser, inept, void of any concept of what she’d do, worse than bush, by a million miles, and we thought bush was badddd, having no clue how to fix the economy, no idea how to end the war in iraq, probably scared shitless of putin, even more scared of Bin Laden.
I’d also bet if she saw someone coming with a gun and she was holding her baby, i’d bet she’d not protect him and even scarier, maybe use him as a shield. How utterly inconcievable is that?
I can not comprehend how the Repugs can’t see as terrible and evil as mccain would be, palin becoming POTUS when mcold died, by natural or non-natural causes (my guess Failin will do it herself) and then the End of Days is offically commenced.
“The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”
______________
No “Mother of the Year” for this bag. What an awful woman. And, Drusilla, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they were not booing your poor abused daughter – they were booing your frightful and callous behaviour.
asianHusseingrrlMN (18:15:32) :
I am completely disgusted.
I too am so over disgusted with this chick, I just read; SP: The view from Alaska, a piece written on Huffpo, By Nick Jans, and let me just say this, I struggle day to day here in Chicago to maintain my (quite small by Alaska’s standards) little wildife habitat, and thanks to it I have seen many species of birds, frogs and dragonflies reestablish themselves on our block. And you, my mudflat buds are the keepers of America’s jewels how fortunate you are. Then comes this reborn – we need to tame and claim the earth for ourselves – me first – strip mall – Happy Meal – wicked bitch of the west. UUurrrgggg
OK wait (trying to calm down) mudflatters we need to rest up tonight for tomorrow and for 23 days, 24/7 we have to do, everything we can to get Barack and Joe elected. I believe it is our last chance to save this country from the few who just want to rape it for all it’s worth. This destruction of our Earth must stop.
I am with you all in spirit. By November, Alaska be blue.
Whoopsie, that story is on Salon, sorry….
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/10/11/sarah_palin_alaska/
My quick poll of 4 friends about bringing the kids out to be booed by that justly famous hockey crowd. Well, horrified was the kindest response mingled disbelief and loathing. Best quote – “those kids need a _mother_!”.
I agree with you Marty Hussein That One Voter Idiot Hater. She is exactly like the type of person who would hold their child up to take the hit for her as she did tonight. And McKillhim has shown us in recent days that he would rather send women to do his fighting for him the pussy. All the women I know and that includes everyone here could take that creep out in a heartbeat.
Great pics! Thanks so much for having such a great site. Another great day for Alaskans = a bad day for Palin. Keep it up!!
Sandy Beach-
“that’s why, on nov 4th I hope you’ll all join me in going into that voting booth and sending a resounding message to Sarah Palin… thanks, but no thanks!”
😀
Great rally! They look chilled but thrilled!
“How dare they boo Piper?”????????
Are you kidding?
Big moose-shootin’, wolf-killin’ mama hides behind a seven year old?
Somebody call her on that, please.
@ akpetmom
Thanks so much for the report on the pro-Palin ‘rally” off knik. I really loved hearing that!!
I have questions about just how much of a hockey mom she is or ever was, if she shipped Track off to Michigan to do his last year of High-school (and play hockey)
Juneau People:
Honest, I actually had tears when I saw those pics. I mean it. My gratitude is not measureable.
Thank You!
It’s my understanding that Wooten did sue to get his WC claim settled. I know that his attorney has been quoted saying that he didn’t see any involvement from the Palins.
Maybe sometime down the road we’ll hear more about that. There are all of those emails out there just waiting to be sifted through…
PA booed Palin as well.
If you haven’t seen the youtube clip of it. :X
By the way, to a poster that posted this: The view from Alaska, a piece written on Huffpo, By Nick Jans,
I’ve read that very article. It’s a good read.
Palin doesn’t just hide behind her 7 y/o she hides behind an old man and her rhetoric….This lady has an authoritative streak in her as big as Alaska!
Couldn’t make it to the rally today, but several folks who were there told me about Vicki’s song. If it doesn’t show up on YouTube by tomorrow I’ll call her tomorrow night & have her record it and then I’ll convert it to an MP3. Phil over at would like to post it. We need to get in on Ipods everywhere!
Republicans crossed line with voter purge attempt
Guest opinion
By John Bohlinger – 10/05/2008
Frank St. Pierre, of Anaconda, fought in World War II. He is one of the most decorated living veterans in America. And yet, on Wednesday, my party — the Montana Republican Party — tried to invalidate his voter registration because he lives in a county with a lot of Democrats. Incredible as this may sound to you, it is the truth.
When people ask why, as a Republican, I agreed to become part of a Democratic administration, I tell them that I believe in putting my state before my party. This has created tension at times. On occasion the folks who run the Republican Party have tried to lock me out of their convention, and this year they even tried to prevent me from speaking at the Presidential Primary Caucus in support of John McCain.
I have always taken this treatment in stride. As the saying goes, “All’s fair in love, war and politics.” But the executive director of the Republican Party crossed the line when he attempted to remove 6,000 voters from the rolls in Montana. These voters are law-abiding citizens and are legally registered. Some are veterans. Others are active servicemen, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan or about to be deployed there.
As a Republican, I was ashamed to hear of this. But as a Marine, I was outraged. Why would the Republican Party, which always claims to care greatly about our troops, do this?
It appears that Republican operatives looked to gain an advantage by purging as many voters as possible from counties that lean Democrat. The director of the Republican Party issued a blanket challenge to validly registered voters based on false criteria, trying to persuade election clerks that a mere change of mailing address is grounds for automatic cancellation of voter registration.
Not only was the effort blatantly deceptive, but the Republicans based their challenge on a national change-of-address database from an out-of-state vendor who sells personal information. Among other problems, this database lists servicemen and women who have been deployed overseas as having moved out of Montana. In other words, if you go to Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Fort Sill, Okla., to report for active duty, you have “moved out of the state” according to this list.
A significant number of the 6,000 voters targeted were servicemen, including Kevin Furey, a former state legislator from Missoula who left the legislature to serve in Iraq; Cindie Kalan-Green, who is also serving in Iraq; and Mathew Robison, who I am told has been deployed to Fort Drum.
Many were college students and elderly people. For example, Babe Aspholm, of Anaconda, an elderly man, simply moved across town from his house to a senior living center. The Republicans tried to void his registration. Tom Detonacour, a policeman from Deer Lodge County who simply bought a house in another county, also got targeted.
But worst of all is the legendary Frank St. Pierre, 86, also of Anaconda, who helped save thousands of allied troops at Dunkirk in World War II and has 10 Medals of Honor. St. Pierre, too, moved from one end of town to the other, and the Republicans tried to void his and his wife’s registrations. I have a copy of the signed affidavits from the Republicans, declaring that Frank and Marilyn St. Pierre’s voter registrations must be purged. An utter disgrace.
Beyond the outrageous lack of consideration for citizens, patriots and heroes, a significant burden and cost has been placed on county election administrators, public servants who work hard to ensure the integrity of our elections. They have been completely swamped by this scheme.
I am a Republican, and I will continue to be a Republican. But I am appalled at the leadership of my political party. I urge party elders to take action and promptly withdraw this outrageous effort to challenge the eligibility of legitimate voters, and to call for the removal any Republican Party employees responsible for this. This kind of activity has no place in a democracy. Finally, I would urge the voters of Montana whose registrations have been improperly challenged not to be discouraged by this unfortunate effort.

Would someone please call the Pat’s (Robertson and Buchanan) and inform them that the Anti-Christ has finally taken control of their movement?
HEY JUNEAU,
You make me proud to be an Alaskan!
We can see you from up north!!!!
Knowing the history of presidential and presidential candidate assasinations in this country- Abraham Lincoln, JFK, RFK- why haven’t the preachers Jerry Falwell
James Dobson, and Pat Robertson called for the resignation of Sarah Palin for inciting her supporters to demand for the head of Barack Obama? Unless, of course, these preacher-students of American political history are the all-knowing puppetmasters pulling the same strings of “treason charges” that preluded the assasination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas.
We were at the Juneau rally today (spouse and I) running a video camera and a digital camera, having handed off my two signs to be held by others (both appear in the first photo on the second row, see if you can tell which ones were written by the same hand and/or look for the little tiny yellow muckboots in the corner). Figured if we looked like press we wouldn’t have to wear masks to protect our state jobs…
We ALL had a blast, albeit a cold and wet one. Figure we had between 300 and 400 there and lots of others apparently there in spirit due to concern about their jobs. Sad when one can’t even practice ones First Amendment rights without fearing for ones job.
I’ll try to send a few more photos. The signs were AWESOME (and, not surprizingly, correctly spelled and punctuated!). Speakers were all great and very inspiring. Off to watch the 10 pm Anchorage news to see if they bothered to do a story. OK, back from the A Block; there was a short VO story with some video (think we managed to stay out of sight for the portion used).
Oh, and spouse is from Philly area–says the Flyers (and all other Philly fans) are vicious. Can’t believe she’d expose the kids to that. Well, okay, I CAN believe it; I just wish she were a good enough mother to realize what a horrible a choice it is…
So, as we head off to bed, please hold down the fort all overnight mudpuppies. Keep up the good fight, and remember to keep up the good protective thoughts for the Obama-Bidens.
Just wanted to note that Vicki’s song lyrics today were actually written by
Sally O in Homer ~ once a popular Anchorage folksinger. (Hi, SallyO from
MW in Anchorage ~remembering the Cauldron!)
Sally O was credited in the original post.
My admiration for you guys just grows and grows…keep up the good work. Way to go, guys….

And the next thing the McCain campaign will blame on Obama is probably the Kennedy assassination – they had no trouble connecting him to Ayers when he was EIGHT years old.
So, since Obama was born on 8/4/1961, they’ll be saying it was really him behind the picket fence on the grassy knoll with a rifle ! At TWO years old !!
DR (04:00:17) :
I have a question for all you GREAT Alaskans.
HAS ANYONE BEEN ENCOURAGED TO FILE A LAW SUIT AGAINST SP??
It really doesn’t matter what type of law suit it is or who files it. What does matter is that there be a current law suit (maybe even 2) hanging over the head of the candidate for V.P. of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The implications of that on the campaign would, I believe, be very significant. I can’t even imagine ANY voter in America possibly voting for a candidate who is under the cloud of litigation that could result in impeachment, a large civil penality, or even further criminal charges.
If I was an Alaskan, I’d be at the courthouse at 9 AM on Tuesday morning (that’s only because Monday is Columbus Day) filing as many law suits as I possibly could. COME ON FOLKS!!!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!
Besides, it will be most interesting to see how Sen. McCain, the McCain campaign, the RNC, and the Conserative Base of the party reacts to their V.P. candidate having been charged with serious crimes in a court of law. Especially 3 weeks before election day.
Is there anyone reading this who is going to take the ball and run with it????? This is a one in a lifetime opportunity to settle this matter once and for ALL.
PLEASE, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
This Palin woman and her shrill voice is grating on my nerves and I can no longer stand to listen to her or even to look at her. She comes across, at least for me, as being self-serving (what politician is not) although in a very mean spirited way.
Also, for myself, I also wonder why her husband Todd comes across as a cheap thug?
OK, I am just this far away from turning off my TV news until Nov. 5. Well, late on the 4th, actually. I just walked into the living room to hear some idiot on NBC saying that the investigation found that SP did absolutely nothing wrong and it was just 1000 pages of wasteful spending–but I’m going to the movies this morning (BOdy of LIes) so I can’t be bothered with BullSH*T!
Booing Piper? Just how far removed from reality can a person get? Try being an adult and fighting your own battles; poor Piper will have enough to deal with between now and adulthood…
Thank you, Philly, for delivering a message that I couldn’t be present to deliver myself.
I so wish I could have been there! Keep up the good work.
