When will everyone in the U.S. come to their senses about GWB? Looks like about 2011.

Wow. The only thing that saved him from being a one-term president was September 11, 2001. Without it, if this trajectory holds, he would have been at 30% approval at the end of his first term.

My question is this: how do you get up every day and convince yourself you’re right when you see this and the war in Iraq and the financial debacle and everything else that has gone wrong. I simply don’t understand the kind of thinking he must have that allows him to still think of himself in glowing terms. It’s truly unbelievable.

Wow! That graph is simply stunning! And look, he trumped Palin’s 80%! Now there’s an Obama campaign tactic — another politician who had an even higher approval rating and look what happened when the truth came out.😉

I can’t believe Bush ever had a 90% approval rating. Especially when he was videoed just sitting there stunned in the class room where he had been reading to kids after being told a plane just hit the first tower. He had no clue what to do and didn’t even excuse himself immediately to go get some advice on what to do.

Remember how the MSM kept telling us about PUMA(still don’t know what that anagram means)–and Hillary Clinton’s supporters and their threat to Obama-where are those Clinton supporters? Majority is now with Obama/Biden. Now the MSM is still going on about the tight race between Obama and McCain—who are they kidding! A vote for McCain is a vote that says..I approve of Bush. Surely more people are coming to their senses and realize there is an urgency to vote for true change. If we all just commit to turn one person around…and if half of those people really get into the voting booth and do the right thing…it’ll be an overwhelming victory. I’m a wreck, quite frankly.Ever since August 29th, I’ve neglected my family, abandoned my hobbies(I’m retired),lost sleep, lowered my standards on gardening, housekeeping, cooking, proper exercise, etc. If it were not for this site….I’d be in even worse shape. The sense of humor and positiveness exhibited here and elsewhere on the web has kept me sane. Thanks to all of you out there.

Bah! People will have come to their senses when we clamor as a national tsunami to Washington, waves gathering waves, pitchforks in hand, tar-boiling caldrons in tow, down-feather barrels by the load, and TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY! The real question is WHAT will it take to get our lazy*ss selves off our worn-in, candy-laden-saddle-bagged-arms-of-a-couch set facing TV-watching-silly-inane-programs-mode, to do what our forefathersadmonished us to do – and that is – save the Republic from this contrived, Bush-led new financial world order mandate passed down from his father, predicted and announced by one-RON-PAUL-of-a-patriot for decades now, proven by his voting record, spear-headed by Truth, and ordained by millions of Americans, who are now hypnotized and mesmerized by all the candidates, from hard-hearted-empty-headed emPalin, hot-headed-fanciful-fabricator McCaniac to hard-leftist-empty-suited ObamAyersed, and mildly-irritating-mega-talented Byeden chameleons who abide by elitist rules of governance.

Wow, that says alot!

Well on that note ENOUGH!

Enough! That is the battlecry of this year’s election. Americans have had enough of deceit, secrecy, financial and economic crisis, war and the overall failed policies of the last 8 years. We have had it and are ready for a change.

In an effort to share our outcry and to let the nation know where we stand, we are calling for a National Day of Support. We are rallying our supporters together to turn our country Blue.

To symbolize that support, you can purchase the Enough t-shirt to wear on October 15th the day of our last Presidential Debate. Let’s show our country that we have had ENOUGH and are ready to take back our country.

Go to my blog http://www.wecannoturnback.blogspot.com and you will see the shirts. Proceeds will be donated to the Obama/Biden campaign. Don’t forget October 15th is when we wear these so get them now to receive in time.

Just read this on CNN

Todd Palin has been resisting a subpoena by lawmakers for since mid-September. But with the Legislature’s report on the matter due Friday, Palin has agreed to answer written questions submitted through his lawyer, McCain-Palin campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said.

The questions were submitted to Palin lawyer Thomas Van Flein on Monday and are expected to be returned by Wednesday, Stapleton said.

Rules for tomorrow’s “debate”:

–The questions will be culled from a group of 100 to 150 uncommitted likely voters in the audience and another one-third to come via the Internet. Brokaw selects which questions to ask from written queries submitted prior to the debate.

–The Gallup Organization makes sure the questioners reflect the demographic makeup of the nation.

–An audience member isn’t allowed to switch questions and will not be allowed a follow-up either. His or her microphone will be turned off after the question is read and a camera shot will only be shown of the person asking — not reacting.

–The moderator may not ask followups or make comments.

–McCain and Obama will be provided with director’s chairs, but they’re also allowed to stand. They can’t roam past their “designated area” marked on the stage and are not supposed to ask each other direct questions.
(Via Halperin)

Another night of no follow-up questions. Disgusting.

I can say with clear conscience I never voted for Bush. I could not believe he won in 2004 after all his lies about the war became evident. It was at that time I really had a serious, serious crisis of faith in the American voter.

I still believe more people were more worried about gays getting married than they were about Americans being killed in an illegal war that was bleeding billions of dollars a month out of our economy.

I think my faith is being restored a bit this time around although it still doesn’t compute for me that Bush’s approval rating is at 25% yet McCain still has 44% of the vote according to the polls. I scratch my head and ask who are these people?

But the truth is they are neighbors and associates and acquaintances and friends and even a sibling. And mostly they are ignorant of the true facts and believe that Barack Obama is as dishonest and phony as Bush was because “all politicians are alike.”

They think I’m naive and foolish to think that Barack Obama is any different from any other politican. I hope they change their tune come 2012 and realize how lucky they were that so many of us decided to change things around this time.

I really believe the end is in sight for these people.

@strangelet & Nebraska

That’s what’s so scary about all of this…since it’s all smoke & mirrors & MSM has been close to useless, it’s really hard to tell what it going on. The scary fascist group has once again raised its ugly head. Bush cynically used them in 2004 when he needed numbers. This is a real deju vu.

6 10 2008
Crust Scramble - SouthGA

I really don’t think they can stop this parade. The internet has changed us all. It has made us more accessible to each other and that is a good thing. I don’t think smoke and mirrors work anymore. We’re bypassing the news organizations (not to say we don’t check in on the headlines) and there is so much more information at our fingertips. They can run, but they really can’t hide anymore. The backrooms are disappearing. Information is liberating for all of us.

today has been a giant gift basket from mcpalin .

1) mcpalin campaign claimed that the keating 5 investigation was “a political smear” (despite the fact that he admitted guilt at the time and in the years since, using it to launch his career as “a maverick”)

2) mcpalin campaign announced that mccain will cut medicare and medicaid to pay for his “health care” plan

3) the public learned that reporters are prevented from talking to members of the public who attend palin rallies (i guess it was after one rally attendee was reported as shouting out “kill him” when palin was reciting her obama’s-a-pal-of-terrorists spiel and palin and the rally just carried on)

4) we learned that the palins owe tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes as the result of inaccurate tax preparation

5) we learn that, almost a week before the republicans announced they are making a complaint with the FEC about “possible” illegal (foreign) small-amount donations to the obama campaign, the FEC had sent a letter to the mccain campaign asking about donations which illegally exceed maximums, a list that was nine pages long.

6) swampland had a post up about the REAL reason track palin is in the army now.

i’m sure there were at least a couple more but i can’t think of them.

and that is just today.

and i didn’t mention obama’s keating 5 film which is all over the internet.

yup, it was a gift basket day courtesy of mccain and palin.

Discussing it aloud is more likely to encourage the haters or nut cases who would be most delighted to shatter our dreams. So we think it quietly, and those who pray, pray about it regularly.

So is anyone else from the center of the USA seriously amused about Palin having to come to Nebraska? I mean EVERYBODY knows the center/heart of the country is ALWAYS completely RED(specially Huskers sea of RED) but this year it seems that since they can split their electoral votes the McBush campaign is having to spend time shoring up a state that no one would have thought they would have needed to. I have tears streaming from the laughter. Talk about turning purple. 😀

PJ I love Goffins. We have a rose breasted cockatoo and several other parrots …mostly rescues.

My favorite parrot is a green cheek amazon I rescued when he was nine years old. His owner was terminally ill and the family decided to rehome the parrot cause he kept chewing through his old owner’s oxygen tubes. I have had him 5 years. He has been tested as being significantly more intelligent than either John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Someone was asking earlier about Track Palin’s alleged involvement in vandalism of school buses. Here is the article from the Mat-Su Frontiersman the next day: Note that Track Palin is not named. It was reported on KUDO (Anchorage radio) that “according to un-named judicial sources” the 16yo was Track Palin. Subsequently, the 18yo who was named said that Track was not involved.

Bus vandals charged

Published on Monday, December 5, 2005 7:47 PM AKST

Four teens arrested Monday for criminal mischief, trespass

JOEL DAVIDSON\Frontiersman reporter
*
MAT-SU – Alaska State Troopers arrested four teenage boys at their Mat-Su homes Monday after they were charged in last week’s vandalism of 44 Mat-Su school buses – an incident that forced the Mat-Su Borough School District to close schools for a day on Nov. 29.

Trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said the boys were in the custody of their parents over the weekend while troopers continued their investigation. The arrests Monday were pre-arranged so parents could be present when the boys were taken away to Mat-Su Youth Facility in Palmer.

Deryck Harris, 18, and the other three boys – ages 16, 17 and 17 – were each charged with third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree criminal trespass and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, troopers said. The 16-year-old was also charged with fourth-degree theft and furnishing alcohol to a minor, for allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka from the liquor store at Tesoro 2-Go in Wasilla.

“They stopped at a liquor store where he went in and stole a bottle of vodka and provided it to the others in the group,” Wilkinson said. “Three of the four boys consumed alcohol.”

Troopers did not release names of the juvenile suspects, but David Coon’s mother confirmed her son was one of two Burchell High School students involved in the incident. The other two boys are Wasilla High School students.

Mat-Su Youth Facility Superintendent Bruce Collins said youths in this situation must see a judge within 48 hours of their detention at the facility.

“The clock is ticking,” he said. “These guys will probably go to court today or tomorrow.”

Depending on the situation, Collins said the youths could face a number of different scenarios when they go before a judge.

“It can go a whole bunch of directions,” he said. “If they can’t go back home, we don’t have a whole lot of foster homes in the Valley. In that case they might stay with us. If they order psychological evaluations, they will stay with us until that can be completed.”

The boys are suspected of deflating tires in 44 First Student buses, breaking mirrors and unplugging 110 buses from their engine-block heaters, which caused the buses not to start in subzero weather on Nov. 29.

How interesting that the repubs at the Ankorage Palin ralley told their small crowd that the Obama raley was filled with hateful and nasty and bitter? people. Really. Check out the disturbing news reports of crowds at McCain and Palin speeches today.

I want to take a moment to talk about violence and fear as a strategy. Commenters have noticed the “nasty” turn of the campaign today, with Sarah Palin telling a ralley (of 5000) in Florida today to “hold on to your hats” because things are going to get intense from now on. With Obama being shouted out as a terrorist by McCain crowds while McCain asks who BO really is.

Violence used to produce fear has a long history. Many may remember the club waving mob that descended on the vote counters in Florida in 2000, creating a “hint of fascism”. I remember the civil rights struggle in the 1960’s where part of being involved meant having to mentally accept the possibility of death every day before you could get out there. The fear of losing your job, your friends, having your family hurt, ostracized, the fear that it was better, safer if you just stayed out of it.

Free and peaceful elections are meant to be an improvement over violent transitions of power, whether revolutions or military coups. If the change being sought is real, there is real resistance from quarters that have felt benefitted by the old arrangement.

So what I’m saying is, fear is part of the oppostion’s tool box. In the 1960’s we trained in non-violent resistance, sang songs, listened to inspiring sermons, and stood together to fight the fear, but we each had to do some self-coaching on that one every day.

It is clear that fear has come into the campaign again this year. Fear seems to have been a part of politics in Alaska, fear of losing a job, fear of getting attacked.

This year again, fear of seeing a candidate assassinated. Fear of experiencing grief, one of the most painful human emotions.

So remember that the labor movement, the women’s sufferage movement, the civil rights movement, every struggle that has made our democracy stronger and our lives better, has had violence and fear (TERROR) used against it. Somehow people have found the courage to carry on.

Brave it out folks. Don’t let violence control our future. Stand together.
The crowds Palin and McCain are whipping up are not in the majority. Yes they are scary. I have watched my father stand arms linked with other ministers between a ravenous mob and the black family they intended to burn out. The faith that sustained those churchmen that day was so deep that it may have even saved their lives.

We need to keep our faith in each other, as well. This is the America I see. This is the promise our future holds. The fear-mongers and hate inciters have their day. We have a brighter one coming.

Wow! What a sad day for America. McCain and Palin are calling a good man a ‘terrorist’ and trying to whip crowd into a frenzy. Someone in the crowd yells, ‘kill him’ and they do nothing.

This need to get out there! Why doesn’t the MSM pick up on this?

Someone besides Barack has to yell, “Enough!” at the top of their lungs.

John McCain, you are a sad, pathetic little man, both literally and figuratively. You can’t win doing this. And you know your aren’t going to win. You know it and the country knows it. But instead of gathering some dignity around yourself so that you could proudly represent not only your country and your party, but most of all yourself, you choose to go down a road of lies and hate and division.

From the rolling Stone article.

“I’m going to the Middle East,” Dramesi says. “Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran.”

“Why are you going to the Middle East?” McCain asks, dismissively.

“It’s a place we’re probably going to have some problems,” Dramesi says.

“Why? Where are you going to, John?”

“Oh, I’m going to Rio.”

“What the hell are you going to Rio for?”

McCain, a married father of three, shrugs.

“I got a better chance of getting laid.”

Dramesi, who went on to serve as chief war planner for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and commander of a wing of the Strategic Air Command, was not surprised. “McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man,” Dramesi says today. “But he’s still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in.”

Spoiled little brat. John McCain is a sad, pathetic, little, little man.

Sad day in America…

I’ve just had an email from a friend who’s changing his middle name to “Hussein” until the election is over, both to support Obama and to draw attention to the ridiculousness of the suggestion that terrorism can reside in a name. (My friend is a 72 year-old Scandinavian Lutheran–Lars Hussein Olafson). There’s something really powerful about this small act of solidarity. Sometimes poisonous things can be rendered impotent by dilution. I’ve decided to add my Hussein to the effort (in both my Palin name and my real name).

don’t undermisestimate palin’s will for armaggedon.

she is appreciating to be dressed better when it comes.

I agree when her little world collapses she would be thrilled to take as many people down with her, and I really believe that article someone posted about her inferiority complex making her ‘show everyone up’ is dead on. But I honestly cannot with all seriousness see things in the light of “Obama or Armageddon”. And if you all really do then what happens on Nov. 5th if things don’t go your way? But that’s just my humble little take on things. I just cannot just give Palin that much power, I’m sorry.

Sad, but, true, I do believe that Dobson, Falwell, and all those other right wing fundamentalist Christians are pitting us against each other and the rest of the world. And that scares the hell out of me. Dobson’s group is in Alaska, trying to get her off the hook so she can be the VP and possibly (probably) President with old man McIdiot obviously on his way out. I don’t want a VP or President who is intent on talking war with anyone, especially in the name of God.

I consider myself a Christian and I believe Jesus when he said that the first commandment is to love the Lord and the second commandment is to love my neighbor. It’s not my place to judge – it’s my place to get along for peace, for all of us.

So yes, I think McCain and Palin are much more dangerous to all of our wellbeing than they appear. Sarah’s a pawn and a puppet. My reason for voting Obama is to cut the strings. We need reason in the White House. And we need to get the religious right out of our government.

When McPalin speaks “Hussein”
if we are to turn the tide of radical Islam we need the aid of moderate/progressive Muslim’s, right?
Well, most vets (who have faught and bled) will tell you it is not a good thing to spit in the eye of the people you are needing to ally yourself with. When mcCain uses the cultural aspect of naming (Hussein is very old and meaningful…like us naming our sons after an apostle…Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) against a nominated presidential canidate he simply proves he “doesn’t get it” .
We need to bridge the divides that exist between Muslims/Christians/Jews to combat and bring about “victory” against terrorism. And McCain’s cont. use of Obama’s middle name as an insult ain’t gettin’ us ther’!

Now is the time to concentrate on defeating John McCain. If all of us channel our energies to defeat John McCain as we have on Ms. Palin, then we rid ourselves of Sarah Palin and the rest of the story will take care of the cancer.
It is my opinion that as long as we do nothing but concentrate on Sarah Palin’s idiocy, then we miss the real target of this election…It Is John McCain!

John McCain is the one who chose her, he’s the one who’s hiding behind her skirts, he’s the one who is sending her out in public with this ridiculous “script”. Let’s face it, she’s not intelligent enough to subcribe to the text she is spousing, let alone have any intimate knowledge of the rhetoric with which she is engaging. She’s nothing but a “boob” and his mouth piece. As long as we hone in on Sarah, we’re not focusing on the true “enemy” in this fight…it is John McCain!

…LOL… I work from home…so I can.

Have you ever seen someone bullied/picked on and done nothing about it at the time, perhaps you yourself were scared ?
Later, you truly regret your inaction so you make up for it by apologising and then you make ammends.

There were many people at those SP and McC rallies where the words ‘terrorist’ and ‘kill him’ were uttered.

I do not believe that those Republicans (even) would be proud to have heard what they heard, or saw what they saw.

I reckon they will be feeling a little bit dirty/used right now.

Perhaps, just perhaps, inciting those people at those rallies will backfire.

I would like to repeat the poem put up yesterday by another Muddy. It was written by Pastor Niemoller during WW2

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time, no one was left to speak up.

*******************************************************************************

Riverside, I think you may have summed up the reason why we mudpuppies, and hosts of others like us may become, in fact, the November surprise.

Weeks ago, many of us posted our ages and while we really had a varied group chime in, I noticed an overwhelming number of us are men and women of “a certain age”.

We do remember the 1960’s. We lived them. We made a difference. And then, like all good Americans, we went on with our lives, started and raised families, became a productive and valued workforce, refined ourselves as professionals and of late, discovered the internet. Although we disbursed widely after the end of the Vietnam War, many of us have found a connection again…when the stakes are this high, is that surprising?

I wonder as I think about what we might have done with this internet tool all those years ago.

But we have it now. We must use it. We must rest here at Mudflats from time to time, but we must also engage actively in this election and battle fear with truth and hope.

In view of comments reported about today’s republican rallies, I will say a quiet prayer for the Obama family tonight. And I will be stronger tomorrow knowing that if Barack Obama can go out to his debate against this awful man, I can surely knock on a stranger’s door and engage that person in a conversation based on truth and necessity.

No doubt McCain can’t be allowed to make it to the White House, but I wouldn’t really agree with what you say about Palin. She doesn’t strike me as the type who’ll disappear quietly (i.e., “be eliminated”) and look how her conduct has become progressively worse as she clawed her way up the steps of the political ladder. I don’t see her giving up an inch of Washington once she gets her heels planted there. All the exposure of her dishonesty and lack of integrity and incompetence and viciousness that’s happening now is what’ll hopefully keep her out of a position of power for good.

If she’s not put out of commission altogether, politically speaking, she’ll have another 30 years to claw and climb and wreak havoc. This election is not only the best time but probably the only time to nip her down to nothing. Once she’s back in middling and meddling along the ladder, the people won’t have this burning interest in checking her claims and proving her as a liar… she’ll be able to sneak by with a whole crap load of underhanded you-name-it and pull an “Alaska” in national politics.
And we all know how hard it is to get bad politicians thrown out of the game once they’ve dug in in Washington, don’t we?

So, yes, by all means fight McCain, but look ahead and use this time to prevent Palin from gaining her national foothold as well.

Thanks for the link “Kiplin vs Palin” — there are some great comments on it. If you’re feeling down about the current political hate-fest check them out. Here’s my favorite (I didn’t read all 396 of them, this one jumped out at me & made me happy so I stopped there) thanks to Dave from NYC:

“I spend half of each month in the mountains of western North Carolina. While there, this weekend, I happened to have a conversation with my neighbors. They’re regular folks. They’re mountain people who have a huge garden and don’t buy things on credit. They had voted for George W. Bush in the past two elections and they had been supporters of Jesse Helms. Our conversation turned to the election. My neighbor and his wife said that they were both voting for Obama. His wife said that Mrs. Palin frightened her, that she was insulted by the Governor’s con and that after these past eight years she can now see through such people. They both commented on how McCain was ‘probably crazy’. My neighbor’s wife said that people like that think that they can fool regular folks. The next day I took my daughter up to Asheville High School to see Obama. We couldn’t find a parking space. The tide of people seemed unbelievable to me. Estimates stood at more than 25,000 ‘regular folks’ standing side by side in a stadium of a school that in the 1950s and 60s had been segregated. Black. White. Hispanic. All sorts of folks. Even as Mr. Obama spoke, the crowds still came, walking in thick cues down the hill. I told my eight year old daughter that this weekend she lived history. Palin and McCain are fooling very few.”

That link was a real find. Pastor Murtha preaching:

“The more violent you become, the more committed you become, the quicker you will see things happen in this region.” (Where was he preaching? It was somewhere in the States for sure. Was it Wasilla?)

And they clapped and shouted out in appreciation of Pastor Murtha’s STRONG WORDS.

Doesn’t read like Jesus’s instructions to his disciples. Reads more like Hitler’s flaming incitments to the brown shirts. More than a whiff, I’d say.

So we expose, we stand together, we stay sane. We move ahead with a sounder vision.

Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) has been vocal in his opposition to Bush (told Bush he was being “bubbled” by Cheney & Rumsfeld). He’s not running for re-election & haven’t heard what his plans are, but looks like he’s moving toward being an Independent. Democrats like Sen. Nelson have to be fiscally conservative & more socially conservative to get elected. Nebraskans take great pride in being independent… that pioneer spirit lives on; e.g., Nebraska Public Power is the only state-owned utility in the Union generated mostly by nuclear.

I grew up in Nebraska & know it is very conservative politically – rural areas especially – despite having been “rescued” during the “dustbowl” of the 30’s by FDR’s WPA & CCC programs.
