Open Thread – Heading to the Rally

4 10 2008

I’m off to the rally.

The photo in the last thread HAD been Photoshopped.  It was a good job, I’ll give ’em that!  So, I took it down.  Apologies.

Chat here, or check out the Forum.  There are lots of good threads going on over there.  If you haven’t registered, just click the link on the sidebar.

And a note about disappearing posts…  Mudflats has been getting mega-spammed lately.  If you post multiple links in your comment, or just a link and no other text, you are likely to end up there, buried in Viagra ads, and online gambling.  I’ll try to rescue your comment, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to catch them all.

I’ll be back later with photos.

Cheers!

Ok. bear with me for a second while I point out that I didn’t actually see the Biden Palin debate live or, indeed in it’s entirety. It was on while I was sleeping the sleep of the just and the next day it was off to work, a quick glance at the blogs (oh, she didn’t self destruct huh?) and other things kept me from sitting through the whole ninety minutes. which was a shame because I missed a moment; an important one.

The lovely yet unattainable Ms Rachael Maddows brought it to my attention (how can intellect not be a turn on? I don’t get some guys) and it has of course been commented on by many, but that moment when Palin (not ‘Sarah’ to me anymore, not even in the derisory way that I meant it)
turned from Joe Biden as he was blindsided by that moment of grief remembered and prattled on about bloody change and freaking mavericks again.

I have said that I was starting to feel sorry for this woman because she was so out of her depth it was beginning to feel like the Abuse Sarah Show. and it felt uncomfortable; a bit like watching Christians v Lions.

No more. I saw a woman devoid of empathy, not a grain of human kindness was visible. just total concentration on her target.

Now, there is a word used to describe an animal that has no feelings for others because it can’t afford them, (an empathic leopard would starve to death), and that word is ‘predator’

We call a human being who thinks like that a psychopath.

Pulling kids out in public has always put kids in the spotlight.
JFK Jr was famous for saluting his dad at the funeral procession.

Still I wonder about Piper’s scowl, or was that photoshopped too. And was her arm raised? With a fist ? Index finger pointing?

I wonder what the un-doctored photo showed…

And it was Ted Kennedy who talked him into giving it a go. And Biden has been successful at being both a father and a Senator. It takes two hours a day on a train (he takes the train from Delaware to DC every day to work).

Thanks, Visitor, for bringing up Peck’s book. Everyone had better become familiar with it now. Also Robert G.L. Waite’s “The Psychopatic God. These people must always be stopped now.

I wrote this below post on the thread AKM just (understandably) pulled because the photo was Photoshopped. But their points are just as relevant on this new thread.

Palin is just now saying at a private fundraiser that O’s links to the terrorist Ayer needs getting out to the American public – add this to the disagreement with McCain over withdrawing from Mi, and saying she would love to go to Mi with Todd, is she trying to throw Mc under the bus?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
UK Lady,
I just read that article also. OK..note to self….quit yelling at the computer. Well, McWeasel said they were going start with nasty politics….here we go. She thinks she is a major player here since the debate…yeah right…don’t think so.
————————————————–

Carolyn and UK Lady,

Her actions over the last 48 hours since she now perceives her performance in the debate a “success” only further prove she is a true psychopath. She will expand her narcissistic sense of self exponentially now from this self perceived predatory “win”! Watch that fractal expand in everything she does now. She will lecture everyone. She will fancy herself an expert on anything and everything. Everything will be blown up and expanded to gargantuan proportions whether they are lies and untruths or not. She will greatly expand her record as she has already shown. Lies. Lies. And more lies and distortions. Truth is completely irrelevant. She, after all, can “just answer the questions in a way SHE sees fit.” She can do whatever she wants in her own mind. Just watch.

Her political ideology IS her desperate means to try to remain psychologically stable in life. Look at her in this photo. (Note: photo is now pulled.) She is a million miles away in her mind. She is not present. She is lost inside herself. What is it with all the supposed dead animal trophies in her parent’s house. What is it with THAT? Kill something to attain displayable self worth? She must attack Obama now more and more viciously to maintain her new level of psychological stability in this new self definition of her self on the national stage. This is classic psychopathology for this personality type. In this sense she is formidable because her psychological struggle is immense.

Beware the banality of evil. Someone please e-mail Michael Roberts at Vanity Fair to render assistance with that dress. It really does reveal her fractured self. Please. Everyone. We must get this woman completely out of politics and into therapy before she destroys the world. We just went through eight years of this with our now currently invisible incredibly destructive severely disturbed President. We can’t go through the psychodrama again as a nation. ———————————————

Like all people in this core complex, she shows ALL these sides. But I would say she is a borderline personality. These people are much more adept at manipulating other people for psychological survival. They have much better functioning strategies because they are not merely at the completely dysfunctional limitation of a lower condition. And, therefore, they are very much more dangerous.

Read Robert G.L. Waite’s famous book. Chapter 1, Page 1: Adolph Hitler was the greatest borderline personality of the 20th Century. The danger is when such people find a resonance through grievances in the politics of a society. They start to mirror their base and vice versa in a fatal symbiotic mass psychology. This is why she is dangerous. Not so much from she herself at all. But the pathological psychological irrational base that is out there in American society among the “Christian right”. Their ideology is profoundly un-Christain to begin with! They are uneducated people of grievance and resentment like fundamentalists everywhere on Earth in whatever religion or political ideology. People may dispute many things in Robert G.L. Waite’s book, but the chapter on the perfect storm of mirroring individual and societal psychopathologies at certain times in history is completely original and a MUST READ tour de force. That chapter has electrified people over the years.

This woman is a profoundly borderline personality. She is very, very dangerous. She must absolutely be kept from any position of power in the government of the United States.

Hi everyone!!
Long time reader, first time poster! God I love this site. You all give me hope. I live in Maryland, right outside of DC. In the Washington Post today there is an article on the front page about McCain and how he will be “taking off his gloves” in the next four weeks.

Here is the first paragraph:

“Sen. John McCain and his Republican allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama’s character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat’s judgment, honesty and personal associations, several top Republicans said. ”

Scary stuff. I smell desperation. This means we must be even more vigilant!!

Not sure if anyone has made this reference before, But Sarah Palin REALLY reminds me of the Nicole Kidman character in a movie years ago about a weather “girl” that would do ANYTHING, including murder, in order to make it to the top. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the movie. But, man, Ms. Palin, really scares the heck out of me.

She’s not a psychopath… she’s a sociopath. Big difference. I too noted the lack of empathy or any sort of acknowledgment of Joe’s distress…. she went on to her talking points as if he wasn’t even there. Apparently her handlers didn’t coach her what to do if there was an emotional moment. And believe me, she needs to be coached to be emotional. She hardly ever embraces her kids in public. Joe was more affectionate with her kids than their own parents. And how come re-Todd never is caught holding “his” baby? It’s always the younger children. That bothers me.

Insofar as the rally, WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Can’t wait for the pics. I missed the one that was removed, but I assume it was worth a decent laugh anyway.

From Sociopath.net

“Sociopaths are more inclined to manipulate
for personal gain, this including sex,
money or even job status. A psychopath is
more likely to engage in murder, mass
killings and torture.
So to sum up the two, sociopaths are likely
to kill you from the inside (mental
warfare), while psychopaths will just
butcher you when they get the chance.”

Forgive me for jumping from the end of the Brian thread to the rally. Ralley for Brian, too. Where I live, since the big game has been gone from the valley for over 100 years, many gun owners seem to be hoping to bag a trophy environmentalist as a consolation prize. Look out Alaska!

It’s snowing in the high Sierras to the West of me. It must be. This morning, just as I woke up, I saw a Black Phoebe repeatedly flying off her perch on a garden stake to snatch insects from the surrounding mint. A morning dove sentinal (the doves clain possession of my kitchen garden) finally flew down and drove her off. We in California’s Central valley are having our first light rain of the fall. Months of dust are dripping from leaves. (Pray for more rain, folks, our area is drought ridden.)

Looking out my study window now, there are two pairs of Lesser Goldfinches preening themselves just four feet away. They are here to extract the tiny seeds from the multi-branched valley sunflowers blooming in patches all around my house. What a thrill to see a moose wandering through your surroundings. I am just happy to watch Western Fense Lizards and baby Nothern Mocking Birds out my window. I would just about die of excitement if I saw a moose wander across my yard. (This valley used to have pronghorn and grizzleys and Roosevelt elk before the ranchers and then farmers claimed every inch of it. Used to have salmon runs too. Now we have billions in crops and billions in “stressed” properties. And the water is running out. And the air is up there with the country’s most polluted. And unemployment hit the roof. Best joke right now is to hear the Repubs blaming it all on the illegal immigants. Builders and farmers blame the problems on the people they counted on for cheap labor to drive up their profits. ROTFL.)

The birds and lizards want it back. They have been patiently hanging on, hoping for a break. Maybe they will get word to the pronghorn if opportunities open up.

People used to shoot big game here, now there isn’t any to be found. Used to call this valley “the California Serengetti”.

Just a thought, Alaskans.

Lulu,

Thanks for your comments too! I am not a professional psychologist or psychiatrist. But I have read lots of C.G. Jung and Freud and, as I mentioned here, Robert G.L. Waite. I read his book years ago. I think it was published in 1977. His book has always stayed with me. There are so many unknown psychological facts about Hitler in it. Hitler was a profoundly immature person. He was actually quite lazy and unfocused in actually doing any real work even when he became Chancellor of Germany! He just like to hold court with his entourage and endlessly receive psychological confirmation. But he had uncanny intuition in reading both his times and his nation. I see very similar traits in Palin at least as to childishness and laziness. I hope she has zero intuition and zero political chops. So far, so good. But borderline personalities can learn very, very fast over time. We must not give her the chance. Period.

I enjoy your posts!

I have a sense Palin’s narcisim, fueled by big crowds and media attention will be like adrenaline for her ego. That is a recipe for diasaster because McCain has a fragile male ego and he now realizes she is the star, the draw, the juice behind the ticket.

I think if Palin is as cuthroat a politician as her history suggests, she may see old Johnny as just another stepping stone to higher office.

Maybe that explains why they kept her out of the loop re: Michigan. He knows a manipulative, ambitious politician when he sees one.

The various personality assessments are riveting and provide insight to those of us who are unfamiliar with such personalities while at the same time somewhat validate our almost instinctual need to distance ourselves from them.

I’m not a shrink, but my experience with Borderline Personality Disorder has been with low-functioning ones…so they had jobs which allowed them to be in the limelight SOMETIMES, and then they could disappear when depressed, show up erratically, etc….not people who have 9-5 jobs with a lot of responsibility who people depend on.

The ones I knew (who were VERY destructive) had freelance type of situations where they only took work when they wanted it, and even then they bailed half of the time.

But maybe someone else has more experience with them than I do?? Would love to hear more….

Also, the Borderlines I knew were definitely people who had “scorched earth” type of defense mechanisms…when they were found to be not meeting standards, they attacked the people who dared to hold them accountable–kind of what Palin is doing now, for sure. One is particular I knew was totally “sue-happy,” and threatened ANYONE who dared not to give her what she wanted –even though she had not met established standards, etc.

Ah, I really have to stop commenting and will look forward now to reading what others are thinking. Thanks to all.

White Agate

Hadn’t read this morning, sorry I missed that photo. I have a good friend who said, when asked about the VP debate, what he thought. He said, ‘Girlfriend is ambition on a stick.’ It ties in with all of the above.

I keep thinking of that video posted earlier on when she was visiting Wasilla church talking about the first witch doctor visit, when he was praying over her and saying ‘Find a way, Lord, find a way!’ Then she went on to say that he didn’t even know what he was praying for, but…of course she then went on to be governor.

The underlying narrative with Palin for me is beneath the attractive exterior, there is always that overwhelming ambition, but what for, exactly? Find a way for what? To bring Christian fundamentalism to some sort of ultimate political power in the US? To meet the Rapture and bring the United States along that path? To follow Cheney’s footsteps in some sort of modern-day Crusade? Becoming the most powerful woman in all the world? All of the above? I can see whatever it is underneath her skin in every photo, during every press clip, Galadriel trying to grasp the Ring of Power. I know, overly dramatic, but you know what I mean.

You can argue that politics brings out these borderline personality types, many people in public life, or celebrities, might be characterized this way. Celebrities are one thing, but we need balanced, real people leading us at this time in our history, not people who have no empathy and who are only interested in self-aggrandizement. There’s a little too much of that going around and it’s abundantly clear that there is far too much of it in both our Executive and Legistlative branches, and the Judicial as well. I am very much in a ‘throw the bums out’ mood these days.

So do we pick these people, or do they pick themselves? Let’s face it, you have to be a bit nuts to run for public office these days. Wouldn’t it be great if that weren’t the case, to just have a strong personality and believe in working for the greater good, however that may be defined.

Also the ‘starburst’ comment by Rick Lowry…seriously, do these people ever get out? Get any?

Well, better get back to work, maybe MN will swing over to a ‘closed’ rather than borderline state for McCain in the next few weeks. We’re close…

…I have to say, I look forward to the time when we can discuss other women, legitimate leaders, in positions of real leadership. Hillary Clinton, and yes, Sarah Palin have given us the opportunity to think about the next level of feminism, and what we truly want in our women leaders. Culturally, we don’t really have a language for that as there have been so few of them on the world stage in this way. I welcome the opportunity to vote for true women leaders, true public servants who happen to be women.

Appears I have missed alot in the Palin soap opera while I have been gone. Of course she thinks shes something special since she managed not to drool in the debate, now she will start getting to big for her britches. Truth is the western woods is full of the Sarah type, you called borderline personalities. Where I come from we call them plastic people because their personalities seem really fake. They generally only like other people if those people are useful in some way, anyone who questions their motives or stands in their way often is the subject a viscous, vendictive and often cruel attack campaign. We have seen how Sarah capable Sarah is with the troopergate thing. What blows me away is how many people just can’t see that there is anything wrong with these people, and will tell you how nice they are.
A small story to illustrate, Back in the early seventies in Seattle there was a serial killer. We all watched the news on our one lone television station and felt smug and safe about the whole thing after all nothing like this could ever happen in our town. Then they arrested Ted Bundy, and guess what, we all knew him, he was a friend of one of our local young men who was attending the University of Washington, he used to come home and spend weekends with this guy and even attend the local dances. I have several cousins slightly older than me who can tell you about dancing, having a cigerette with or even going for a solitary beach walk with Ted. Not one of them ever thought he was odd. I grant you Ted is a bit of an extreme example and I don’t expect Sarah to start murdering Democrats yet give her some real power and who knows what she’ll do. My observations of Ted (I was ten at the time) were that he was somehow very obviously fake, I didn’t like him, best I can describe is like a robot programmed to mimic human patterns I see that same thing everytime Sarah opens her mouth. The one good thing I have noticed is that when this type of person gets to feeling to big for their britches they usually screw up and in a spectacular way. It sounds like she already is but we will have to wait for the next installment.
On a lighter note someone mentioned all the trophies I believe her parents are now wildlife bioligists by profession. As someone who hangs her coat on an elk antler coat rack (my uncle made it from antlers he found on his ranch) and parks her feet on a bear skin rug (yes, I killed the bear he was on my deck, it was him or my dog, I choose my dog) it is pretty normal rural western behavior. I have come to the conclusion though I know next to nothing about psychology just observing a few folks like Sarah that I have known all of their lives that this type of personality is born this way, they are wired differently than most folks right from the start.

I’m interested to see how many ”dependents” are claimed for 2008 and again in 2009 after her daughter’s wedding.

Let me just throw this out there:
After seeing the interviews and watching the debates is it possible that Alaska is governed by big oil through Todd Palin?

I’ve read he sits in on meetings of State business. If the televised segments are to give us insights to the abilities of SP, I’d have to give serious consideration to who is actually pulling the puppets/stage personality’s strings.

Hey, Mudflatters. I have been following this blog for a few weeks as an antidote to the horror that is Governor Palin. I am an Taiwanese American bi woman from MN, and I am filled with admiration for the Alaskans on this site who are committed to bringing SP home, away from the rest of us. Very selfless of you, I think, sacrificing yourselves for the good of the nation.

I also want to thank everyone on this site for the enthusiasm and, yes, I will say it, INTELLIGENCE displayed that is sadly lacking elsewhere on the web (and sometimes, it seems, all around me). We’re coming to the homestretch, so we have to be ever-vigilant to make sure that Obama/Biden make it into the White House.

P.S. I am on board the Biden sexiness train. When he was getting passionate about what he was saying (and saying it so trenchantly), but then would flash that smile–well, I was glued to the TV set, I’ll tell you that much. I also love Rachel Maddow, whom I’ve recently discovered on YouTube.

P.P.S. You guys really heartened me that maybe we can win this thing! Thanks again from MN where WE DO NOT talk like your governor.

I just got back from the Alaska Obama rally, and it was great! Lots of people there- I’d say 2,000 maybe? Good energy, great speakers. I saw Les Gara but left before he spoke (actually, I’m not sure he was slated to speak). Eric Croft and Ethan Berkowitz both spoke, but it was hard to hear in the back because there were so many people. I’ll try to post a few pictures over at my site, but I forgot my fast computer at work, so it’s going to be painful and/or near impossible. Go Alaskans for Obama!

I have a Masters in Social Work…although I am not a psychologist. I have however, spent my career in counselling others, and Palin makes me very uncomfortable.

I dont think its possible for anyone…even a psychologisit or pdoc..to diagnose Palin simply by viewing her on TV and by hearing her talk. However…we do use the skills we have to make our own judgements.

At first I classified her as a narcissist. This is bad enough, but what has been even more disturbing to me lately are sociopathic tendencies I have noticed.

I have thought about it this way. Sociopaths are such good liars. Its one of the things they are extremely adept at. They are callous…something which Palin had evidenced a few times. She showed this with the reckless disregard with how she has treated her own children…in particular Bristol. She appears egocentric…its all about Sarah. She is obviously impulsive and a huge risk taker. After all…she jumped at the chance to run with McCain, even though on some level she had to know she runs the risk of losing, and that could lead to some major issues in Alaska. She is risking the outing of horrible information about her and her administration on what is now a very slim hope of winning the VP job.

Her sexuality is exaggerated…as evidenced by her flirty and somewhat whorish behaviour with all the winking and sly smiles at the RNC as well as the debate.

She boasts excessively and although one could surmise that perhaps all politicians do…there is just something about how she does it that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

There is much more…but this is just a snapshop of what I have been think.

Sociopaths are very difficult to deal with. In personal relationships…they have an uncanny ability to do all kinds of disgusting and horrible things…yet leave the other person thinking/believing that they are the ones who are wrong…or in some cases crazy.

Its not that I simply dislike this woman. There is something very ugly about her. Perhaps I am cynical from so many years of working with people who have tried to con me ….or perhaps its because I have seen those ugly traits that she possesses in others.

I believe with all my heart this person is dangerous.

I, too, find something off about Sarah Palin. My mom is a psychologist, and my undergrad degree is in psych. I read all these pundits and other people saying they would like to have a beer with her (even other Democrats), which I don’t understand. Not only do I not want to have a drink with her–I don’t want to be in the same city. She is a cipher, a chameleon, a person who easily becomes whatever it is she thinks the other person wantslneeds her to be–but only to advance herself. In short, there is no there there. I don’t think she’s a ncie woman. I don’t think she cares. I KNOW she needs not to be in a position of great power.

Palin Scrubbing Turns Up an Undeclared Car Wash
Updated 7:28 p.m.
By Matthew Mosk
ST. PAUL — In addition to being a mayor and raising four children, Sarah Palin found time for another venture in her Wasilla years — she was part-owner of an Anchorage car wash.

Palin and husband Todd each held a 20 percent stake in Anchorage Car Wash LLC, according to state corporation records filed in 2004.

A review of Palin’s gubernatorial disclosure filings indicates that she failed to report her stake in the company on the form that requires candidates for governor to disclose any interest in a nonpublicly traded company.

The car wash venture was not entirely smooth sailing. State records show the business ran into trouble with Alaska’s division of corporations business and professional licensing after Palin became governor of the state in 2006.

A Feb. 11, 2007 letter to the governor’s business partner advises that the car wash had “not filed its biennial report and/or paid its biennial fees,” which were more than a year overdue.

The warning letter was written on state letterhead, which carried Palin’s name at the top, next to the state seal.

On April 3, 2007, the state went further and issued a “certificate of involuntary dissolution” because of the car wash’s failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees.

Palin’s gubernatorial disclosure filings also reveal her involvement in another failed startup — a marketing business which was to go by the name Rouge Cou, which evidently is a literal French translation of “red neck.” On the 2005 form, Palin describes the firm as one for which she secured a license but did not conduct any business.

____________

Just rereading this Washington Post article from September, and it points out another bit of ignorance on Miz Gomer Palin’s part. She wanted to name her 2nd venture “Rouge Cou”. Actually, in french, it would be Le Cou Rouge. And the definition of redneck in french is “one who has reactionary ideas and racial prejudices”. Looks like the little lady doesn’t waste her time on accuracies or homework, just blunders ahead broadcasting her ignorance like pearls before (lipsticked) swine.

I forgot the Ayers thing. As I understand it he turned himself into the FBI years ago and the FBI told him that had nothing on him, he was free to live his life.
This is to me and probably most other people a big so what. If they are going to drag the 60s out of the closet, they should also mention things like Kent State where the national gaurd shot several protestors, some of whom were running away when they were hit. Only slightly more violent than the police in minneapolis at the republican convention. It really was a different time. Truly, it is time the Republicans to stop living in the 60s.

“I can see whatever it is underneath her skin in every photo, during every press clip, Galadriel trying to grasp the Ring of Power. I know, overly dramatic, but you know what I mean.”
——————————————-
White Agate,

What you say is NOT overly dramatic AT ALLl! This is precisely the point that we can all INTUITIVELY see and why panic set in on August 29th and we all started searching for information and all ended up here on the Mudflats. This poor woman does not understand the world. She is clueless. She is small town. Her whole ideology is small town. I grew up in a small town. There are many good values in a small town. I love the sentiment of John Mellancamp’s song. But as you progress in life you learn from travel, from literature, from history. You learn from your own encounters with the Ring of Power yourself! And from your own encounters with Trojan Horses you, yourself, have faced in life. This woman is missing ques in reading life that is unnerving.

Do they read Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, or Erasmus in Alaska? Well, I guess the Wasilla Bible Church isn’t big on covering Erasmus. So I will just roll with THATreality. Heck, at this point I think we would all just settle for some insights in her soul from Stephen King or Philip K. Dick. If I thought she understood some of the genius in how Keith Richards and Mick Taylor played their symbiotic riffs here on “Honkey Tonk Women” after Mick Taylor took over for Biran Jones under such traumatic circumstances I’d even feel hopeful:

Or how SRV is trying to show us all something about how the Universe/Multiverse ACTUALLY works here on “Texas Flood”:

But in her flute performance in the 1984 Miss Alaska Pageant I just did not see even that level of basic cosmic musical insight channeled down into her consciousness. Would she ever even be the slight bit curious about SRV’s technique and how he actually does it in the 1-4-5 drop back blues boxes? Would she ever make a study of SRV’s bluesology and improve her own game in life?

It is better to BE the note than to merely PLAY the note and the note is not always played best following conventional methods…

This makes all the difference in what you actually effect in life and the chops you actually have to make things happen.

I think the strange saga of her and Johnny Boy is going to be short lived. But we all MUST be on guard until this is over and we can all then kick back some here on the Mudflats.

I think so too. The scary thing is I think both she & McCain have sociopathic personalities. I am amazed they are getting away with their bizarre behavior. Brian Williams, Letterman, Leno etc. are getting some great laughs, but no one is really addressing the problem. After the VP debate, The Jed Report had McCain’s rather strange reaction & now Sarah seems to think she is running the show. One good thing is that sociopaths don’t like competition, they like followers, so hopefully there will be some infighting. This is the nuttiest election with so much at stake….as Biden said the most important election since 1932. I think they will stop at nothing & women & civil rights are at the top of the list.

If you recall during the debate when Sen. Bidan broke down talking about the death of his wife, Palin did not even bat an eye and went on with her selfish crusade of belching out neo-con lies. In my view, she lost the debate at that very moment.

Ethan Berkowitz was there – he’s running for congress – we only have one seat and Don Young currently fills the spot – he’s one of the slimy ones. Maybe someone could buy McCain off? Offer him a presidential-style state funeral in return for taking his hat out of the ring?

Shoot, go the whole hog!! Tell him that he doesn’t have to die, and that he can go directly to the Rotunda for the Lying in State portion of the ceremony (casket closed, microphones and tape recorders running, even CCTV catching every relieved smile and knowing nod), and he can then resurrect himself to wreak vengeance upon his detractors and denigrators.

That mission of divine retribution (and the telling of war stories–did you know that I’m an ex-POW?) will keep the old fart real busy until he really passes over, as he doesn’t show up in the Senate all that often anyway.

Hmm, sounds a wee bit like in your face racisim to me. Don’t know about where you live but in this town the houses that are being lost are mostly up on “snob hill”. Their owners are fairly lilly white, consider themselves uppercrust and guessing from some of the comments they made at the recent hearing on building affordable housing in their area, a bunch of republicans.

Laurie (14:39:22) :

[…] At first I classified her as a narcissist.

Sorry for the long quote, but it bears reading again and again. I agree with you.

After thinking of Hitler first, I’ve also had the idea that Palin has something in common with Bundy and Diane Downs. Hitler was cruder, Bundy was smarter, Downs was dumber, but they all were basically on the same track as Palin is. Not only “me first”, but “there’s nothing but me”; the law or even just plain common decency as a human being doesn’t apply to them; their obvious lies make sense to them and they get angry when others question them on their claims; even with misdeeds exposed, their popularity hangs on; and they don’t give up, they never give up, they keep going in the same direction until the final trainwreck puts a stop to them.

Yeah, Palin is dangerous. Giving her power in her family is dangerous for the family (sad, but none of my personal concern)… giving her power as the mayor of Wasilla is dangerous for Wasilla (sad, but none of my personal concern)… giving her power as the governor of Alaska is dangerous for Alaska (very upsetting because I think Alaska is a wonderful place, but nevertheless not really a personal concern of mine since I don’t live in Alaska)… giving her power anywhere NEAR national politics is dangerous for the nation, of which I am part – well, RED ALERT.

Not being allowed to vote, all I myself can do is to hope for a timely trainwreck that’ll put a solid stop to Palin. A trainwreck of the magnitude that managed to put an end to Hitler, Bundy and Downs. I’m sure that nothing less would suffice to stop her.

@White Agate…earlier you were speaking about Palins motives. You know…I am not real sure that Palin is a true “idealogue” regarding anything. I think its just a matter of ….”what is good for Sarah in the moment”.

I believe she is a good mimic…similar to what asiangrrl was saying. A chameleon or cipher. She can mold herself to fit where she sees the most benefit.

To validate some of what I was feeling, I heard Joe Scarborough…who I cannot stand by the way…say the exact same thing. He has doubts that she is a true Repub…or that she even understands the ideas behind republicanism.

She is fake…she will lie, cheat and scheme her way to whatever it is she sets her sights on. November 4 cannot come soon enough. It will be interesting to see what happens when she has to go back to Alaska with her tail between her legs. The question for me is….what will Alaskans do when she returns?

4 10 2008

@Laurie, I was just riffing on what you said. I especially agree with the part of them messing with your mind and making you feel as if it’s your fault or as if you’re imagining things.

That’s one reason I am glad I found this board–I am NOT the only one who thinks Palin is dangerous–perhaps, even more so than W. I couldn’t understand why people didn’t see it and thought she was nice, but just not ready.

By the way, to all the Republicans who whine about wanting ‘someone like me’ to be VP–get over it. I’ve never gotten to vote for someone like me and never will in my lifetime (Asian, bi, female), but Obama is the closest–with Biden by his side. I will never understand how ‘Joe/Jane Six-Pack’ delude themselves into believing that Republicans actually care about them when it’s the Democrats who are all about social responsibility.

Deb –

He has agreed to speak to the Personnel Board investigator, not Branchflower, the investigator hired by the Legislative Council (the investigation Palin is trying desperately to halt and prevent release of the report next Friday).

He agreed to speak with Timothy Petumenos. He is still not complying with the subpoena and is awaiting the state Supreme Court decision on Thursday to decide whether he will speak to Branchflower.

Remember, Palin initiated this Personnel Board investigation by filing a complaint AGAINST HERSELF, then filed a motion to dismiss her own complaint as meritless.

Love your site. I am a Grandmother for Obama. My comment is why isn’t the media reporting about the support for Obama in Alaska and these anti-Palin comments? The Public needs to know. Just as we don’t get much down here about what is happening with trooper-gate. Can you do more out-reach to the media! Only an Alaskan can tell this true story on Palin. Yes, I heard the same as well from several sources, about Cindy’s dad.

I am sorry I missed the photo everyone is talking about. Was it a picture of the Palin family? I have been disturbed by Palins behavior since I saw her speak at the RNC, and just had this gut feeling that something about her wasn’t right. I have been wondering about whether she is a sociopath for quite a while now. I am not a psychiatrist, but what everyone has said seems exactly right and does explain her behavior. I was also stunned by her lack of empathy toward Biden during the debate.
I recommend reading “The Sociopath Next Door”; a very compelling read.
Here are a few excerpts:

re: documented characteristics of sociopaths as a group:

“One of the more frequently observed of these traits is a glib and superficial charm that allows the true sociopath to seduce other people, figuratively or literally – a kind of glow or charisma that, initially, can make the sociopath seem more charming or more interesting than most of the normal people around him.”
“Sometimes this “sociopathic charisma” is accompanied by a grandiose sense of self-worth that may be compelling at first, but upon closer inspection may seem odd or perhaps laughable.”

Pg. 91: “We are seduced as well by the acting skills of the sociopath. Since the scaffolding of life without conscience is deception and illusion, intelligent sociopaths often become proficient at acting, and even at some of the particular techniques employed by professional actors.”

On a different note, I am glad the rally today was such a success, and thanks to all for sharing your photos. “Skill baby skill” is priceless

What your Local Obama Office really needs:

Nutritious food. The Comm Director shared that they are at the office 9 am to 9 pm and subsisting on donuts and candy – that’s what folks are currently bringing in. These are mostly younger folks who are getting by on their passion for this election. I’m sure this is happening all over the country. Erich Fromm analyzed Hitler, Eichmann and Stalin’s behavior in developing his concept of the Necrophilic Character. He defined its key attributes as self-obsession, an insensitivity to others and a “passion to transform something alive into something unalive; to destroy for the sake of destruction; the exclusive interest in all that is purely mechanical.”
[quote from The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness]

Does this list sound in any way familiar? The politics of destruction, an obsession with war, a desire to shout down one’s opponents, treating killing as a sport and extreme need to impose one’s will on others through ridicule and denigration.

By the way the book is a bit long (about 580 pages), but it does offer an antidote – Biophilia “the passionate love of life and all that is alive; it is the wish to further growth, whether in a person, a plant, an idea or a social group.”

This campaign gives us a clear cut choice between these two extremes.

I didn’t vote for her the first time, (despite being a registered Republican). I guarantee you that 99% of the male vote had nothing to do with her “qualifications” – I was offended by that and felt (even then) that she was doing a huge disservice to women in general. I truly thought that Republicans in Alaska didn’t need Jesus to get elected – now I”m furious that they keep their true intentions ‘secret’, (some strange justification that their ‘divine right’ to rule makes lying okay). I just don’t trust anyone running for office anymore – who are they really?

Mostly I’m really really stunned (and angry) that she has become a national icon for the “Rapture Republicans” (who are not conservative at all) – she completely avoided that association during her campaign.

Since her election win I’ve vowed to vote a complete Democrat ticket until the “Rapture Republicans” make their own party and leave mine alone. George Bush is the epitome of the wrongs done to satisfy a narrow demographic. Anybody see Michael Dukakis on Rachel Maddow’s show? He talked about his (and Kerry’s) mistake of not confronting negative attacks, but noted that the Obama campaign always makes a quick response to them. The response might not be as forceful as we’d like it to be, but it’s there and this tactic has been pretty successful so far. It was also noted elsewhere that Obama’s making jokes of McCain’s and Palin’s rants and smears has been successful.

Yes, the personal attacks are going to be relentless, but I think the Obama campaign is ready, and McCain is going to end up so crazy with anger and hatred that he’ll just split himself in two like Rumplestilskin.

And in the end we’ll all go– wow, that was scary, but kind of exhilarating, and pop the champagne corks for President Obama and Vice President Biden.

And then we’ll start the hard work of taking our country back.

“Attorney Thomas Van Flein said he asked the investigator, Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos, to reserve the third week of October to interview Todd Palin, but a date has not been set because he is waiting to hear back from Petumenos.”

Another effort at a delaying tactic. It is so reminiscent of Watergate. The outcome will probably be the same – the AK Supreme Court will want to avoid a constitutional crisis and rule in favor of the investigation. The cover-up will prove to be worse than the crime and its perpetrators may see the light and get out before things go from bad to worse for them — except they seem far less intelligent than Nixon.

@crust scramble

25 years??? You are made of sturdy stock. I too have a sister…whose mentality is similar to your sisters. I remember a few times that she berated me for daring to read aloud from a newspaper about something or other….she didnt want to hear about bad things on her day off. She could not understand my work…counselling in a very underpriveleged area of Toronto …and considered it lack lustre and thankless work. I could not make her understand the extreme satisfaction and often..joy that I derived from it.

Politically….if we were American, she would be republican. We pay much higher taxes in Canada….and she complains bitterly about that. I was amused at Palins tax returns…paying something like $14,000 taxes on an income that a Canadian would pay more than double that amount on.

My husband and I were talking the other night after watching Palin speak…and he wondered aloud why some in America were so afraid of universal health care. He pays much much more in taxes than Palin does, and as he says…he would never complain. He has a good life and can sleep nights knowing that everyone can see a doc when they need to.

I am tired of McCain lying about our health care system. I can assure you….I choose my own doctor….I see specialists when I need to…and I have never had to wait more than 3 days for a doctors appointment. If I need to see one immediately…we have walk in availablility with no more than a 45 min wait to see someone.

The horror stories you hear are a smoke screen and nothing more. Oh…and my benefits from work? They cover everything from prescriptions..glasses..therapeutic massage…chiro…and private counselling. I am just praying that Obama is elected and all Americans can have the same.

I think I said this before but I’m really hoping Palin loses, runs for Pres against Romney in 2012 and we get to see her on the wrong side of the Republican attack machine.

Eyes Wide Open In Pittsburgh

Sarah Palin???

…excerpts from Wikipedia on the topic of narcissistic personality disorder

“A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:[1]

has a grandiose sense of self-importance
is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
believes that he or she is “special” and unique
requires excessive admiration
has a sense of entitlement
is interpersonally exploitative
lacks empathy
is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes”

“To the extent that people are pathologically narcissistic, they can be controlling, blaming, self-absorbed, intolerant of others’ views, unaware of others’ needs and of the effects of their behavior on others, and insistent that others see them as they wish to be seen [4]. They may also demand certain behavior from their children because they see the children as extensions of themselves, and need the children to represent them in the world in ways that meet the parents’ emotional needs [7]. (For example, a narcissistic father who was a lawyer demanded that his son, who had always been treated as the “favorite” in the family, enter the legal profession as well. When the son chose another career, the father rejected and disparaged him.)

These traits will lead overly narcissistic parents to be very intrusive in some ways, and entirely neglectful in others. The children are punished if they do not respond adequately to the parents’ needs. This punishment may take a variety of forms, including physical abuse, angry outbursts, blame, attempts to instill guilt, emotional withdrawal, and criticism. Whatever form it takes, the purpose of the punishment is to enforce compliance with the parents’ narcissistic needs[7].

People who are overly narcissistic commonly feel rejected, humiliated and threatened when criticized. To protect themselves from these dangers, they often react with disdain, rage, and/or defiance to any slight criticism, real or imagined [8]. To avoid such situations, some narcissistic people withdraw socially and may feign modesty or humility.

Though individuals with NPD are often ambitious and capable, the inability to tolerate setbacks, disagreements or criticism, along with lack of empathy, make it difficult for such individuals to work cooperatively with others or to maintain long-term professional achievements [9]. With narcissistic personality disorder, the person’s perceived fantastic grandiosity, often coupled with a hypomanic mood, is typically not commensurate with his or her real accomplishments.

The exploitativeness, sense of entitlement, lack of empathy, disregard for others, and constant need for attention inherent in NPD adversely affect interpersonal relationships.”

We understand that what we say here isn’t going to “change” anything, but before you go about berating us for what we say, make sure you understand that many of us in here are working in our own communities to get Obama elected. and we come here to talk to each other, and to laugh with each other.

We cannot be overly confident. I never thought W. would ‘win’ and then win. I am a bit more hopeful this time, but not overly-so.

Hey, Canada, are you still conservative up there? You were my fall- back country before you swept away your whole government–though I wish we could do that. I need to get my Plan B in order.

NoCalGal, here is a rather extensive list. I forget who initially provided it, but major thanks to that person. I see there’s a link above to FAIR’s media contact list, but this list might have a few more links.

I apologize for the length of this, but it’s worth having. I saved the list in a Word doc for future use and respectfully suggest others do the same.

Yes people they are going to spread hate that is their mission until the election. What they are forgetting is that the average voter has said repeatedly that they are sick and tired of this type of campaigning.

This is a very dangerous game and yes I do believe it will stir up unstable people out there. Sad but true.

To me it just proves the McCain/Palin ticket will not be happy until there is bloodshed. It is a dangerous game but we cannot stop it other than to spread the truth and to support the Obama campaign.

Hang tough everyone.

I have felt for the last two weeks that there is about to be a Palin story that everyone is missing something that will blow back in McCain’s face. It is like an itch between my shoulder blades. I am going to go by my gut and itch, and wait for the implosion.

Yesterday I gave another donation to the Obama Campaign. I have put up a 4 ft by 8ft sign in my back 4 acres that butts up to a state route here. I have made sure everyone I know is registered to vote and informed about the issues.

Just one positive thing will move us closer. I truly believe that!

Laurie, Hey, speaking of excellent Canadian health care…

This went almost unnoticed last week: “Tucked into the Wall Street bailout bill was a breakthrough for the estimated 113 million Americans suffering from mental illness – a provision making it illegal for health insurance companies to discriminate against patients suffering from psychological or behavioral disorders.” from the Boston Globe

For Americans this is a pretty big deal. And it just might come in handy for Sarah when she comes draggin’ back to Wasilla in need of therapy.

@asiangrrl…yes we are are conservative federally, at least until October 14. Harper is similar to Bush…so of course he is not my pick. We at least have the opportunity for minority govnt. which is what we have now. That is why Harper called an election…he is hoping for a majority so that he can do all the damage he wants. I am hoping he loses…at the very least is left with a minority once again.

Harper did make it clear this past week though, that he is not looking to reopen the debate about abortion. It was a concern…most likely because of the up front and centre position of people like McCain and Palin. Harper likes to be lock step with the US government, which leaves many Canadians shaking thier heads.

We will see…please think of us on October 14…Stephane Dion’s Liberals will be where my vote will be going.

But Asiangrrl…come on down. I can promise you a good health care plan after you have been here a bit.

oh and can I say this: SWWNBN will revel in the opportunity to slander and create hate and discontent about Obama. Those kind of people (the Mean Girls) LOVE that sort of stuff. And now that they have turned her loose, just wait for the vitriolic diatribes against our hope. I hope she gets herself in a legal mess for slander and libel for it. She’s not smart enough to avoid it. She’s in the big leagues now, and it’s not just her friends watching out for what she’s spewing, it is her enemies.

HamletsMill aka Rot Pipeline Palin

I can’t take credit for this. Somebody posted something to this effect here on the Mudflats maybe three weeks ago when AKM was investigating the whole AIP revelations and informing us about this potentially hypocritical issue. Especially important even more so now if she and the Republican Party are going to “Run against the 60’s” now full tilt in the “revived culture wars” James Dobson wing of the Republican Party.

Since she is going to now personally viciously attack Barack Obama as a “friend of terrorists” in her new post VP Debate psychological confidence energy, let’s fight fire with fire.

Get the AIP revelations on the front page. Tell the world how The Todd was a card carrying member. Link in footage of “C-4” (military plastic explosive) Joe Voegler’s rants ans the history of the whole thing.

Then here’s the bumper sticker:

“AIP: VP CANDIDATE SARAH PALIN SLEPT WITH A TERRORIST AT LEAST FOUR (cross out the four) FIVE TIMES”

@Laurie, that’s what I thought. I still may go, though, because I like Canada a great deal, especially Vancouver. Plus, you have weather like MN’s–and I LOVE the cold.

@All I Saw, I was so discouraged a few weeks ago (right after the Republican convention in my state, thank you very much), that I had decided not to vote. My best friend said that was one of the strategies of McCain, so I decided I had to vote. I have to admit, it’s partly because I believe you don’t have a right to gripe if you don’t vote, but it’s mostly because for the first time, I heard a candidate speak, and it truly moved me.

Ok. Canada is my Plan B.

I don’t know why McCain would want to rock that empty Ayres boat. Especially considering McCain’s rise to politics was supported by the contacts and finances of his father-in-law, who was involved with Arizona organized crime. In 1976 Don Bolles, reporter for the Arizona Republic was killed by the mob, in a car bombing. It has always been believed that the one who made the hit was the close associate of McCain’s father-in-law. In spite of this, McCain still got involved with the family, and married Cindy. McCain was so deep with AZ organized crime, intimately. He got a get out of jail free card in Keating, for his POW years. I think McCain’s connection to organized crime is far more troubling (and extensive) than Obama’s limited acquaintance with Ayers.

Vlad the I'm Palin

Wikipedia entry for first DUD – sources given at Wikipedia if you wish to verify.

Palin first registered to vote in 1989. From 1995 to 2002 he was registered to vote as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which is notable for their radical support of Alaska seceding from the United States and being considered its own independent entity.[11] In late August 2008, The Politico reported that Palin was registered to vote as an independent (“undeclared”), and had never registered as a Republican.[12] In early September 2008, a spokesman for John McCain said Palin was now a registered Republican.[2]

As First Gentleman, Palin has encouraged young Alaskans who cannot afford college to consider jobs in the oil and gas industry as an effective training ground and has advised the Governor on workforce development issues for the natural gas pipeline she supports.[13] He is a community volunteer working in youth sports, coaching hockey and basketball.[14]

Gregg Erickson, columnist for the Anchorage Daily News, said that Palin “obviously plays an important role … I’ve seen him in the governor’s office, and I know she’s conducted interviews in the governor’s office with him present.” Palin is copied on e-mails dealing with official state business. He helped write the state budget, has been involved in personnel matters, and has called lawmakers when he or his wife have disagreed with what they have done.[15]

Palin was a judge in the 2008 Miss Alaska pageant.[

I dont mean to pry…but would you mind giving us a brief rundown, on how a sociopath manages to suck you into the void? I understand if you dont want to, because I know the damage that has probably been done to you, because of him.

I am only asking, because, I like so many others am looking for the answer as to why so many people seem drawn in by Palin. I do believe her to be a sociopath.

Sigh, so much homework. And on the weekend, too!

Okay, here’s my letter to the editor of the NY Times:

Dear Editor,

So, the McCain campaign wants to talk about Obama’s ‘relationship’ with former Weatherman William Ayers? Obama consorts with terrorists? Really?

What about Sarah Palin’s much more substantial and much more recent involvement with the Alaskan Independence Party, whose events she has attended, and of which her husband, First Dude Todd, was a member from 1995 to 2002? This political party, the third largest in Alaska, was founded by Joe Vogler, an ardent secessionist, who is quoted as saying, “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions… And I won’t be buried under their damn flag.” Vogler died in what has been described as a “plastic explosives sale gone bad.” He was duly buried in the Yukon Territory, Canada.

The McCain campaign has told us straight up that the next few weeks are going to be full of ugly, personal attacks on Senator Obama. They might want to take a little more care that their candidates won’t be tarred with the same, only bigger and badder, brush.

All the concerns for Obama’s safety that spring up with the negative campaign strategy- Remember to keep the secret service in your thoughts and prayers. So far, we have been lucky and the service and local police have been successful.

Remember the wingnuts captured in Colorado because of an alert traffic stop?

Hope viligance and alertness and the incredible bravery of those good officers defending our right to vote for the candidate of our choice will win out. Combine their bravery with the candidates bravery and the people’s determination to keep democracy alive. Then pray like mad for all of us!

And get out the vote!

Does anyone have a link or a copy to that video of the AIP convention, when the president makes it clear that Sarah Palin was a member. They quickly put out a disclaimer after it became public knowledge….but not sure if the vid was pulled.

I had emailed them at the time, and the presidents wife was so angry with me, she kept flooding me with nasty spam email. I finally wrote her back telling her if she didnt stop I would send her email to the authorities. lol..she stopped. Going to look for the vid now.

Janet, You are quite right about McCain’s father-in-law. He was a convicted felon with mob ties. He and his mob buddies financed McCain’s first bid for congress.

Interestingly, he was shot down during WWII and while recuperating met a nurse and left his first wife and daughter (sound familiar?) This daughter, Cindy’s sister, lives in Phoenix but Cindy and her money have nothing to do with her.

He pretends to be something he is not. But the conservative evangelicals ignore everything but his newly discovered “right to life” stance.

With all that is going on, reality can be overwhelming, I have personally had to lay off 750 people in the last 6 months you have no idea how horribly depressing this is, I know the stakes in this, if we don’t make radical changes and very soon things will only get worse, if McCain gets elected and impliments his plans we can bend over backwards and kiss our hind ends goodbye. I am speaking as the manager of a globally competitive manufacturing plant that at 100% has over 1000 employees in the manufacturing plant alone, I have a clue what I’m talking about. I agree with you both. I had a conversation about Palin with my REPUBLICAN bro-in-law today…Grrr! He actually started the conversation, to goad me I believe. But that’s okay as I always want to know what the opposition is thinking.

After some initial chatter about our differing perceptions of what was or wasn’t said, yada, yada. I asked him what he thought of Palin. “SARAH – OUR SARAH?” he responded with the biggest grin I have ever seen on his face. “I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HER! I LOVE THE WAY SHE DRESSES AND THE WAY SHE TALKS – AND WHEN SHE WINKED AT THE AUDIENCE I GOT THE BIGGEST BONER I HAVE HAD IN YEARS!” (and this guy is almost 70 years old!) If you’re puking by now…sorry! My fingers feel dirty writing this.

However, after he calmed himself (down boy! down boy! – he was like a pitbull chasing a bitch in heat…sorry!), has said he was ready for McCain and SARAH to bring out their big guns and get folks all stirred-up about “scary”, Black Obama…he went on and on – you all know their talking points, so I’ll stop rambling.

My point is simply this, there are many people in our country who want McCain to win and they want him to win at all costs. There was no taking to him about intellect, substance, the state of the economy, health care – I DON’T CARE! – was his rebuttal to every substantive issue I brought up in our combative, but relatively civil conversation…He also assured me of one other FACT as he left – “If SARAH doesn’t win with McCain, this babe will be back running for president in 2012!”

Somebody, “talk me down” please!

Canada is still conservative-at least for 10 more days. My husband voted as a Canadian living abroad and went Liberal-but the riding he votes in has been Liberal for years. I stopped voting when we moved years ago because I’m just not in touch with the issues in that riding.

On health care: I have lived in 3 different systems: Canada,[socialized] US and Germany[two-tiered] I can’t say that I had bad health care in any of those countries. In the US, for me, it’s a fundamental problem that all people aren’t covered. It boggles the mind that one of the wealthiest nations in the world doesn’t provide health care for all its citizens.

Beware folks. We still have a month to go and the negative campaigning has begun. Palin is enjoying herself calling Obama a terrorist. It may have been debunked a year ago, but we’re getting close to the finish line and if McCain/Palin can change the conversation the polls could sway. We need to remain vigilante. The momentum is favoring Obama, but elections have fluidity. The pressure has to remain to get Branchflower’s report released. That could be the nail in the McCain/Palin coffin. If you need any help Alaska, give a shout out. Us in the lower 48 can contact the legislative council (on previous post) as mudflats has requested. This election is far too important.

The McCain campaign now realizes that it cannot win on the issues, so, in desperation, they will ratchet up their smear tactics. Palin Sued for Private E-Mails About State Business
By Matthew Mosk
ANCHORAGE — In a lawsuit filed in Alaska Superior Court, a Republican activist seeks to force Gov. Sarah Palin to produce copies of official correspondence she sent and received on private e-mail accounts.

Andrée McLeod filed the suit Wednesday and publicized it in a news release today. “Rather than using her state e-mail account, throughout her two-year tenure as Governor of Alaska, defendant Sarah Palin, as a matter of routine, has used, and, on information and belief, continues to use, (at least) two private e-mail accounts… to conduct official business of the State of Alaska,” the suit alleges.

Never a dull moment in that woman’s life. Even her Republican friends can’t stand her now.

Just as this site activated you, it has activated me. If people are having convos that you don’t think are productive, skip over those posts. It’s a little down time for some of us. After traveling to neighborhoods, calling swing states, attending rallies, sending emails and making donations, we’re all entitled to that which we find enjoyable or relaxing.

People will mobilize and ready for the next day. No one is giving up the good fight. But talking with like-minded people about something that isn’t directly productive for the campaign isn’t “nothing.” It’s recharging our batteries. We’re all wired differently and some of us might need what you deem stupid.

Rest assured I’ll be sending emails bright and early Monday morning re: Todd Palin and AIP. It’s important and necessary. (I’ve been pleasantly surprised to learn that our voices matter and the media hears us.) But between now and then, I might enjoy things you consider meaningless. I am just so glad that this is the age of the internet. With somebody or other copying everything and then some onto youtube, and with so many media outlets and blogs documenting what’s been said, written, implied, and otherwise expressed, there’s no way that McCain/Palin can subdue the information that’s out there. What’s stunning is that they keep trying… how utterly pitiful is that, and what a testament to their being as weltfremd and removed from sheer reality as can be?

For every lie they tell, there’s proof to the contrary available. It’s just a matter of digging it up and presenting it to the main public. Easier said than done, considering how prolific and hurried they are about spouting those lies, but at least the truth IS available. Big difference to Hitler. I guess that’s something to be grateful for :o)

Wired,

Thanks!

Actually, after that morning encounter, I put on my Obama shirt and button and headed to the Mt. Rainier Arts Festival to mingle, listen to good music, and hopefully strike-up a few political conversations. The first person I ran into (well, not literally) was Marilyn Rasmussen (WA State Senator) who lives quite near me and I have known for years. So…I did get a good breath of blue air (and RAIN!), as well as strategic political talk.

I filled out a form before getting my flu shot today. It asked if I was allergic to anything. I put “republicans” in the blank. When the nurse interviewed me and spotted that on the form I explained to her I was serious and that I suspect it is actually some kind of allergic reaction to nuts.

I spend my days off which are few and far between registering voters. I say we take Maverick and use it as a weakness. It’s like I no longer say Sarah Palin or John McCain…It is Republican Sarah Palin and Republican John McCain. I feel strongly about keeping those tied to them in the same way I think Dick out to be tied to the word Maverick…The Republican Vice President; The REAL Maverick…executive privilege, no accountability and on and on, and now that Palin has stated that she would like to see the VP with more executive power…they all look like damn Republican Mavericks and we should pin it to all of them we can with every “Maverick” action they have pulled.
The map looks lovely this week!

I with you on that one! We Washingtonians have to stick together, you to Whabs and Wired differently. Most of the Washington and Oregon folks I have talked to can’t stand Sarah. I have been told by others that here in western Washington we are culturally more tied to the Canadian West coast and Alaska than the rest of the US. If this is true we may be more able to discern that something is weird about Sarah because we don’t just write it off as frontier mentality which it is not.

sosad, I think going to the American Legion armed with information the members would really care about is a fantastic idea.

CNN just reported that, in her own words, Palin says the heels are on and the gloves are off. (So typical of her “verbage.”) Then, they showed her and the hideous Ayers accusation. Citing NY Times and their own investigation, Ayers and Obama merely live in the same neighborhood and were on the board of the same charity.

I serve on the board of a major charity and don’t know everyone on the board, so it’s meaningless.

It’s alleged that Ayers held a fundraiser in his home for Obama. Well, there’s a dangerous link. I was at an Obama fundraiser last week hosted by a hedge fund manager and corporate headhunter. I freely admit I caused the crisis on Wall St. It’s me. All me. Because I attended a fundraiser of hedge fund manager. Sorry. We’re good, right?

Does anybody have any opinions about McCain and Palin blowing up in each other’s face between now and election day? I mean, he picked her only because she seemed useful for his own purposes, and she accepted only because he’s useful for her own. Neither of them truly agrees with or accepts the other, or at least that’s my impression – they simply use each other. They’re also both megalomaniacs who will not tolerate being put into second place… Palin has already tried to buck him off, and he’s already put the spurs to her… with his temper, you can probably bet that he’s already laid into her in his nasty way, and with her intolerance for any criticism, she’s probably already told him off in equally certain terms. I bet the shit’s been flying behind the scenes. Add Toddie who’s not used to being kept out of the goings-on but apparently has been put “in his place” by McCain, which can’t be making things any easier between Sarah and McCain either.

Do you think they’re both driven enough to “succeed” (or to try to anyway) that they’ll make a sufficient attempt to put their warring egos aside, or are they just too wrapped up in their respective egos to be able to hold the crash off until after the election?

These dirty tactics were not only used against John Kerry, but were used against John McCain when is ran against Dubya in the primary race in 2000. They ran him into the dirt with terrible lies. They beat him to a pulp mentally! McCain was devastated! This is the Rove approach to winning elections. So, now the spineless creep (McCain) decides that he’ll use these ruthless Rovian tactics to win. I truly believe that he would do or say anything to win! ANYTHING! The other part of the Rove plan of campaigning is to brutally attack your oppoent while acusing him of attacking you. If you say anything enough many people wind-up believing it!

Seriously, it must be difficult to live at ground zero for the Cheerleader from Hell. But things are movin’ and groovin’ out here in the 48 contiguous, (Hawaii, too, don’t want anyone to feel left out) and up there, too. Think about how improbable all the rallies would have been a month ago! Today alone there were at least 3– Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. Fairbanks is fairly hostile territory, and everybody works for the state in Juneau, so those were some pretty brave folks.

So hang in there, and like Anne, who lives in a red zone about as far from me as you do from semi-blue Anchorage, visit the city for a bit of blue air if you’re starting to feel suffocated. Or hang out here on the blog. For a big blast of icy freshness, go see Shannyn.

If you have not seen this recent speech by AFL-CIO representative Richard Trumka, please watch the seven minute clip. Racism is unflinchingly defined for a large group of union voters…watch it and send the clip to your family, friends, and co-workers who might benefit from hearing the truth that seems so difficult to speak out loud.

The speaker directly addresses this country’s critical need to vote for Barack Obama because we must not allow the ‘color of his skin’ to affect this election’s outcome. He names racism as the sole reason that too many voters reject Obama’s leadership without saying ‘because he’s black’.

Mr. Trumka has spoken at smaller groups and calls for workers to stop voting against their own best interests simply because of the inbred racism which only considers white candidates as ‘fit to lead.’

For those interested, read ‘Deer Hunting with Jesus’ by Joe Bageant–interesting insight on why some ‘blue collar’ whites cling to white leadership that cares little about them.

This is truth-telling at its finest.

@citizensagainstliberaldemocrats (00:49:40)

Your post is one-sided. Below are two fact checks, one from CBS and one from FOX News, which show both Biden’s AND Palin’s inaccuracies during their debate.

The CBS News Reality Check Team fact checks the debate:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/02/eveningnews/realitycheck/main4496799.shtml

FOX News Fact Checking the Vice Presidential Debate:
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/03/fact-checking-vice-presidential-debate/

WASHINGTON — Facts went adrift on taxes, deregulation and more Thursday when Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Joe Biden clashed in the vice presidential debate.
Some examples:

PALIN: Said of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama: “94 times he voted to increase taxes or not support a tax reduction.”

THE FACTS: The dubious count includes repetitive votes as well as votes to cut taxes for the middle class while raising them on the rich. An analysis by factcheck.org found that 23 of the votes were for measures that would have produced no tax increase at all, seven were in favor of measures that would have lowered taxes for many, 11 would have increased taxes on only those making more than $1 million a year.
——
BIDEN: Complained about “economic policies of the last eight years” that led to “excessive deregulation.”

THE FACTS: Biden voted for 1999 deregulation that liberal groups are blaming for part of the financial crisis. The law allowed Wall Street investment banks to create the kind of mortgage-related securities at the core of the problem now. The law was widely backed by Republicans as well as by Democratic President Clinton, who argues it has stopped the crisis today from being worse.
——
PALIN: “Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell.”

THE FACTS: Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska led an effort in 2005 to tighten regulation on the mortgage underwriters — McCain joined as a co-sponsor a year later. The legislation was never taken up by the full Senate, then under Republican control.
——
BIDEN: Warned that Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s $5,000 tax credit to help families buy health coverage “will go straight to the insurance company.”

THE FACTS: Of course it would, because it’s meant to pay for insurance. That’s like saying money for a car loan will go straight to the car dealer.
——
PALIN: “We cannot afford to lose against al-Qaida and the Shia extremists who are still there, still fighting us.”

THE FACTS: She appeared to confuse the two main Muslim sects in Iraq. Al-Qaida is solely made up of Sunni Muslim militants. Through the course of the war, U.S. forces fought ferocious opposition from both the Sunnis and the country’s dominant Shiite sects. Now, both groups are largely maintaining a cease-fire with the U.S. A much-diminished al-Qaida, mainly foreign fighters, remains the primary threat.
——
BIDEN: Said McCain supports tax breaks for oil companies, and “wants to give them another $4 billion tax cut.”

THE FACTS: Biden is repeating a favorite saw of the Obama campaign, and it’s misleading. McCain supports a cut in income taxes for all corporations, and doesn’t single out any one industry for that benefit.
——
PALIN: Said the United States has reduced its troop level in Iraq to a number below where it was when the troop increase began in early 2007.

THE FACTS: Not correct. The Pentagon says there are currently 152,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, about 17,000 more than there were before the 2007 military buildup began.
——
BIDEN: “As a matter of fact, John recently wrote an article in a major magazine saying that he wants to do for the health care industry — deregulate it and let the free market move — like he did for the banking industry.”

THE FACTS: Biden and Obama have been perpetuating this distortion of what McCain wrote in an article for the American Academy of Actuaries. McCain, laying out his health plan, only referred to deregulation when saying people should be allowed to buy health insurance across state lines. In that context, he wrote: “Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
——
PALIN: Said Alaska is “building a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline, which is North America’s largest and most expensive infrastructure project ever to flow those sources of energy into hungry markets.”

THE FACTS: Not quite. Construction is at least six years away. So far the state has only awarded a license to Trans Canada Corp., that comes with $500 million in seed money in exchange for commitments toward a lengthy and costly process to getting a federal certificate. At an August news conference after the state Legislature approved the license, Palin said, “It’s not a done deal.”
——
PALIN: “Barack Obama even supported increasing taxes as late as last year for those families making only $42,000 a year.”

BIDEN: “The charge is absolutely not true. Barack Obama did not vote to raise taxes. The vote she’s referring to, John McCain voted the exact same way.”

THE FACTS: The vote was on a nonbinding budget resolution that assumed that President Bush’s tax cuts would expire, as scheduled, in 2011. If that actually happened, it could mean higher taxes for people making as little as about $42,000. But Obama is proposing tax increases only on the wealthy, and would cut taxes for most others. In the March 14 budget resolution supported by Obama and Biden, McCain actually did not vote.
——
PALIN: Said a McCain-Palin administration “will support Israel,” including “building our embassy … in Jerusalem.”

THE FACTS: Moving the U.S. Embassy from its present location in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is a perennial promise of presidential candidates courting the Jewish-American vote. In fact, moving the embassy is actually required by U.S. law. But successive administrations of both parties, including President Bush’s, have made the same pledge only to find that the realities of Middle East peacemaking have forced them to invoke a waiver to delay it. Jerusalem is claimed as a capital by both Israel and the Palestinians, and Israel’s occupation of east Jerusalem is not internationally recognized. The city’s status is a key issue of disagreement in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

My dad is over 90 and he’s an Obama supporter. I’m taking him to our local Democratic Headquarters in the remaining weeks to volunteer his time and talents.

Keep in mind that the stakes are very high for the Republican power elite. There’s nothing they won’t do to win and that means viral character assassination and outrageous lies.

And if that doesn’t work, be prepared for bigtime election fraud at every level. We must vote in huge numbers or there will be enough wiggle room for vote manipulation and yet another stolen election. These are desperate, dangerous people.

I am so incredibly relieved to find you people! I keep seeing those high approval ratings for Palin in Alaska and wonder how she does it. She scares the hell out of me and I don’t want her anywhere near the White House. I’m in Wisconsin and I’ve had more than enough of Sarah Six-Pack. The more I read about her, the more I dislike and distrust that woman. I do not understand why so many people go ga ga over her. I keep meeting bright people who think she’s so fine and have no problem with her being vp and stepping up if McCain gets sick and can’t function. She can wink and sling sarcasm, look you in the eye and lie with a straight face, gets all cutesy to draw us into her snare. I saw her go right on by Biden when he started to choke up and thought so much for all her supposed warmth and compassion. She is as cold as they come. How many times has she claimed she told Congress “thanks but no thanks” even after it came out as absolutely untrue. Does she think we’re that stupid and don’t read and check things out? Just like McCain. He lies and then lies about his lies.
PASS THIS AROUND, WILL YOU? There are warnings going out now that bin Laden may pull something before the election. He wants McCain to win so he (bin Laden) can trigger us into a war and then he can get even more recruits. And we’ll spend more money we don’t have. We cannot afford to let bin Laden push us into electing another warlord for president.

Bush is the first president ever to cut taxes while waging war, the height of fiscal irresponsibility. Except for deregulation and no interest in oversight of what regs do exist. So now we have over $660 billion for Iraq and $700 billion to bail out Wall Street. China owns a huge amount of our Treasury bills. If they weren’t having a hard time thanks to our financial disaster, they could pull the plug on us.

Ira2 – I’ve wondered the same thing about McCain/Palin. He has a really hot temper. He nearly struck a woman in a wheel chair for daring to question him about POWs that many think were left behind in Nam. He has been a complete obstructionist to anyone trying to find out anything and others ask what is he hiding. He called his own wife a trollop and a c…t in public when she teased him about getting thin on top. He has been engaged in push and shove in the Senate, gets furious when other senators do not agree with him. He shoved Strom Thurmond when the guy was in his 90’s. I share this documented info with people and they pass it off.

If McCain/Palin win this election, those voting for them will get the government they deserve but they’ll take the rest of us along with them. She wants to expand the vp’s power, more than Cheney has and is either ignorant or doesn’t care how dangerous that is or how unconstitutional. She will swear an oath on the Bible to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and then walk right thru it like Bush and Cheney have. The founding fathers understood that that document is the basis for this country and without it, we’re just another country, vulnerable to any would-be dictator with enough charisma to take over. That oath is sworn to protect the document, NOT this country.

Did that really happen with the witch hunter coming to Palin’s church in Wasilla and praying over her? I saw that video before it was pulled and then another one where Muthee is trying to scare all the witches away from her–or from inside her?? Her head is bowed in that one and I cannot tell if it’s actually Palin.

If she is taking part in this, at the same time she is going after Obama for Rev. Wright, she might find it coming back to bite her on the butt. I’ve read one pastor of hers has said from the pulpit that anyone voting for the wrong guy (Kerry) might find his soul in danger and then spelled it outright, going to hell. Palin might not care if that makes the national news but somehow I don’t think McCain and those conservative republicans will be happy about Muthee and witch hunts.

Then there’s Todd belonging to the Alaska Independence Party whose founder says in print that the fires of hell are as frozen glaciers compared to his hatred for the American government and he wants to secede from the U.S. Seven years– maybe Todd doesn’t belong now but he was in it for 7 years.

How strong is that party in Alaska? How important? You are our last frontier, on the planet anyway, and I have been learning how ignorant I am.

I’ve learned two things looking at McCain’s voting record. He consistently votes against women’s rights and women’s health. He has also consistently voted for deregulation and 90% of his votes are in accord with Bush. You can take this to the bank, no matter what he may claim now. He is no friend of women nor the middle class or blue collar workers. I am getting the impression the same is true of Palin. She goes for the bottom line…And power.

I’ve been reading some of your discussion above about diagnosing her personality. The main thing to remember is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely – and one important extra: Power attracts those who are willing to be corrupted. I see McCain as so desperate to become president that he is now sacrificing whatever integrity and honor he had–he is corrupted by the possibility of such power. Same with Palin. No matter her evangelical beliefs, she is willing to be corrupted. I think she wants to be president and he needs to watch his step.

I just read an article about how her first mentor was looking for someone to help the Wasilla city council get something passed, might have been over trash collection, and he saw her and invited her to help. God help him, he didn’t know what he was doing. He should have paid serious attention to her nickname. She lives up to it and that’s why she scares me.
