Another Record Breaker?

3 10 2008

I did see a few flakes today, but hopefully the snow will hold off and the sun will shine!  Join all those Obama “operatives” as the McCain campaign likes to call them, at the Park Strip at 1:00!  Unless, of course, you’d rather join the Palin Victory rally in the gymnasium of the Anchorage Christian School….same day, same time.  Decisions, decisions…

My brother lived in Alaska for over 20 years and my sister-in-law moved there as an infant. I know how pissed you all must be over what the McCain campaign is doing to your legislative and legal process. The best tactic is to get the report released next Friday and then vote Obama. Last Dem to win Alaska was Johnson. It would be too funny to have Palin lose Alaska for McCain.

I am from New York, so I can sympathize with embarressing Governors. I was a big Spitzer fan during the elections. Once he got in office he screwed everything up both figuratively and literally. Thank you Mudflaters for the reports humor and protests!

I live in the Bay Area, and today our weather guys and gals were buzzing about the possibility of *rain* this weekend! Zowie!

But I grew up in Minnesota, and I remember the onset of colder weather well. The cold in Minnesota could be life-threatening, but it just never got cold enough to completely change the physical properties of things like motor oil and engine blocks.

I just want to say that it has been really cool for you all in Alaska to connect in a virtual way with your neighbors down south. Remoteness can be be good thing if you don’t care to be distracted by the ephemera of life in the mainstream. Isolation is never a good thing.

Thanks for all the great dispatches from up there!

re: cursing I saw a video, I think on YouTube, a few weeks ago. It was taken in July of this year. McCain had a bunch of reporters with him on his plane, and he invited them to ask questions. When a group of female reporters pushed him on his non-answer, he burst forth with a huge spiel of filth. He also called his wife a disgusting name in a public place, but that was many years ago. The man has no moral character. He is foul-mouthed, greedy, and mean-spirited. It annoys me immensely that my pastor and congregation think he is the moral choice, simply because he SAYS he is pro-life. Of course, they all think Bush is wonderful, too; nevermind that Bush does the exact opposite of what Christ commands us to do–help the poor and the needy.

RE:Alaskan polls- Obama was making inroads until Palin was added to the ticket. Alaska has a long way to go, see:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/ak/alaska_mccain_vs_obama-640.html.

However, since there is not a huge population, we are not talking about a lot of votes. Although Bush beat Gore by nearly 30% in 2000, a shift of 22,000 votes would have won it for Gore. We probably only need 10,000-15,000 vote shift to Obama to carry Alaska.

AKM, on the “There They Go Again” thread, you wrote to a comment: “And the Obama campaign is not doing anything. As a matter of fact, they removed a good chunk of their paid staff when SP got the VP nod. They transferred them to other battleground states. What they mean by the “Obama campaign” is anyone who doesn’t think Sarah is the greatest thing since moose stew. Now the McCain campaign….that’s another story. They’re all over state government like flies. AKM”

I don’t know how you feel about “requests for future entries”..(I think I would hate them)… But if you could write a bit more about the fact that the Obama campaign is barely even in Alaska now, in terms of an operation, we could help to get the word out and combat the horrible smear from the McCain campaign that the Obama-Biden campaign is doing ANYTHING there. You have done so much to help the country already, I hate to ask any more of you. But I loved your response quoted above and it made me want more on this…

I think maybe I wasn’t being clear…(Friday night, you know). I meant mostly that the Obama campaign wasn’t doing anything in terms of dealing with Alaskans for Truth, or trying to deal with the McCain takeover of the Dept. of Law. They have removed many paid positions, but they still maintain multiple field offices in the state. McCain never had one single office here, and they still don’t to my knowledge. So, they are still a presence, and though less organized than they were before, it’s still impressive for Alaska. Hope that helps. AKM

This Alaskan is counting on voter apathy from Republicans (thinking we’ll go red, we always do, don’t need to stand in line to vote, rather drink my six-pack) plus the young excited voters of AK to turn this state blue.

Maybe it’s far-fetched. I’m trying to stay positive. My husband and I used to be republicans. I’d have voted for Obama no matter what, but the hubby was okay with McLame until scarah was added to the ticket. So, that’s 2 repub votes they’re not getting. Basically, I don’t think there are any Democrats in AK who will not vote for Obama, but I do know several repubs who will not vote for mclame, particularly now that he’s added scarah to the ticket.

That’s my little tiny world here in AK, and if it plays out like that throughout AK, coupled with the HUGE enthusiasm of the young vote (people who would usually not care, such as my daughter who is 18 this month & excited to vote for Obama/Biden), I am really really really hoping that this state can pull off a big wonderful surprise for Obama/Biden.

I knock on lots of doors here in Eagle River where I live and it’s pretty disheartening. ERiver has a HUGE military population, and there aren’t many of them who are not republican (but there ARE some, because I’ve spoken with them). But I think that ER is probably one of the densest repub areas in AK, if not THE densest (literally & figuratively?). It’s a masochistic thing to do here, door to door, but that’s my job to help Obama win, NOT a paying job, but on the days when I talk to people who care it makes me hopeful for AK and the US.

Anyway, if there have been lots of inroads in terms of signing/registering new voters & those voters actually get out to the polls and vote for Obama, well, it can happen. I’ve got to have HOPE.

Good Luck with the rally tomorrow! We are having a “Mothers and Daughters for Obama” rally Sunday in West Los Angeles. Off topic, have you seen the Chicago Suntimes interview with Palin? You might be interested in her new answer for Supreme Court decisions she doesn’t agree with. She doesn’t name a case so I don’t know if she is referring to Kelo vs City of New London or what but is it correct that she used or tried to use eminent domain to obtain the land for the Sports Center in Wasilla?
She also remembered what she reads. You might ask yourself, does she think Economist is an investment magazine?

God bless you SMR. I work at a community college and I always tell my students that in tough times politicians will always cut student loans but will leave Social Security alone. Why? Seniors vote, college students don’t. Don’t underestimate the power of a small group of dedicated people. “Losing” Alaska will be a big embarrassment to Palin. I live in NY and Obama will definaely carry the state. I plan to go to Penn. later this month to campaign.

Although I didn’t agree with his politics, I felt bad over what Bush did to McCain in 2000. Now McCain is pulling the same BS. I think Palin is worse than both Bush and McCain. She is apolitical and will do anything to advance herself (look at the back track on global warming.) If McCain wins, he better watch his back, it seems like she dispenses with all her mentors to advance herself.

A very successful and important local band. Their website is here.
Here’s an excerpt:

At the 45th Annual Grammy Awards in March of 2003 the group was chosen to represent Native American music. The Celebration of American Music was held at Times Square Studios, NY. Pamyua lived up to their reputation as a highly energized and entertaining group. The concert was just prior to the release of their anticipated third album, Caught in the Act, which won Record of the Year at the 2003 Native American Music Awards.

The quartet has taken stage in many venues across the world stealing hearts and gaining listeners with their fresh and unique sound. Pamyua masters the ability to mix traditions from across all boundaries while still holding on to their Native roots.

Good luck with the rally! The news has been moving so fast on this blog with the rally, the appeal, and the release of taxes, I can hardly keep up!

On a side note, I was watching the 20/20 special on the presidential candidates wives, and one thing they said struck me as very sad. It seems that Cindy McCain had three miscarriages, and JM stayed in Washington for two of them. But when news went public that she was being investigated for drug use and fraud, he rushed right home from DC. I had a real empathy for Cindy, and it seems to explain a lot about her work with children and her adoption of Bridget, which has been portrayed several times as her idea. That’s so sad, and shows just how soulless JM really is.

Another piece of cheerful news. I think the McCain campaign may have lost the plot strategically.

They are bombarding Minnesota with ads/money to the point where they are outspending Obama by 3:1 in that one state. This has bought them a 1 point advantage so far… maybe. It has come at the cost of, of course, Michigan and will be bleeding resources away from the other states.

Rumors are starting to circulate about McCains backer’s reluctance to throw good money after bad so, this looks like a man who has rain coming in through a leaking roof, leaking window frames and a leaking door who empties his bank account to get a brand new porch built.

It is however classic behavior for someone who can’t deal with the big picture; Concentrate on one small part of the whole and block out everything else.

Hello All! Just want everyone to know that we’re having a rally here in Fairbanks tomorrow also. Our rally will start at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Park on Cushman Street in downtown Fairbanks.

Two weeks ago I hosted a Sunday brunch for “Alaskan Women for Obama” . Imagine my surprise when over 70 women showed up to help plan strategies for motivating voters in the Interior of Alaska. Hosting this rally Saturday was also one of those ideas. The Obama Rally in Fairbanks it’s being sponsored by Obama Campaign for Change, Alaskan Women for Obama, Families for Obama, and Students for Obama.

Tonight we had a great poster making gathering, and will have various speakers and local music. We’re excited that these rallies will be going on in various locations in Alaska at the same time. We’ve got a VERY CONSERVATIVE newspaper in town, so don’t know how much coverage we’ll get, but have also informed local T.V. and radio. We’ll be there with our cell phones and cameras!!!!

The election is becoming a giant game of Risk. According to my calculations, in order to win the election, McCain must hold on to all the states he is now ahead in plus….Ohio,Florida,Virginia,North Carolina, Nevada & Colorado which is behind. If he loses any one of those except Nevada, the election is lost. If the only exception in Nevada it is a tie and goes to the House of Representatives which is currently under Democratic control.

Maybe this guy would make a good Secretary of Labor?

Also an update on my boobytrapped Obama sign…for those of you who didn’t read my original post, I have had several signs stolen so I rigged up a coffee can full of dye on my gutter to dump on the perpetrator. I refilled the can religiously for a week or so (as it evaporated) but started to slack off as time wore on. Well, they got my sign again last night, there was no dye in the can and they pulled down part of my gutter…live and learn…it seemed like a good idea at the time! You asked about Wasilla using “Eminent domain” regarding the arena. Yes…that is what they used, after Palin talked them into an arena being built on land that did not belong to them. In fact I believe the case was only settled in early 2008; I happened to catch a bit of news with the man who actually owned the land. In the end, it ended up costing the city of Wasilla a whole lot of money…especially in legal fees.

This man…sorry I dont remember his name, said that if the city had treated him with any respect at all…or had approached him prior to beginning construction, he probably would have been inclined to let them have the land. Seems to me, Palin doesnt think that she has to play by the rules…ever.

Lulu & AKM,

Interesting that Obama has field offices in AK, but McCain has none. Obama has the grassroots, locally-based organization, McCain brings in the outside lawyers to meddle in local matters.

The comment I originally quoted from ADN takes the xenophobic position that any significant political action (rallies, petitions) comes as a result of what we used to call ‘outside agitators.’ Well, I guess in the case of the Republicans that rings true… How ironic that those self-sufficient, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, manly frontiersfolk (aka Alaska Repubicans) have given themselves over to big city lawyers who are engaging in frivolous and costly legal actions to stop a local investigation.

Can’t wait to hear about the rally. Both rallies, actually.

LETTER TO ALL AMERICANS

On November 4, 2008, we all get to vote for a candidate for President. Don’t let your party affiliation, surpass, the reality, of, what we are, all, presently dealing with in our every day lives as Americans.

If you are financially, OK, then you can afford another financial hit in the next four years from the Bush-Chenney/McCain-Palin administration-ticket. They have made it clear…

1.CENSORSHIP- Another factor of this teams leadership style, you had better become use to is… the censorship (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party). If, wanting to burn books in a library (Palin) that doesn’t fit with the “propaganda” (Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party); it should at least have a familiar, historical, ring. Journalists please answer this question for me… do you still have your right to “freedom of press and freedom of speech”?

2.FUNDING EDUCATION -Along with the under funding of education (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party). The less educated the people, the less questioning of “questionable” practices or citizens taking action.

3.RELIGION- In accordance, with watching a city of its own people drowning (dying), along with some of the extremist religious sermons, lectures and hypnosis’s of why it occurred (Bush, Cheney, the religious right and the Republican Party).

4.PRESERVING THE CONSTITUTION- Coupled with unconstitutional surveillance and torturing means. I guess Americans need to see people hauled off into concentration camps before we react—hey, haven’t we seen this in Cuba with the unlawful detaining of… substitute Arabs for Jews?

5.WAR- Don’t forget the familiar ring of war, war, war, all the time and the “worldview” being outside the norm for this stage in history.

6.SEPARATISM- Take a good look at the pictures of Americans that are following these two campaigns–conventions and campaign attendees. The participants–in one crowd; the crowds qualitative connotation is emphasizing an American “imperial, purist, sovereign, republican party” utilizing a totalitarian philosophy along with speeches riddled with fear tactics; and, in another crowd–it mirrors the rest of the country. Leaves other Americans to believe, if they don’t look like the incoming regime (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party) or, embrace their philosophies, you will be left out in the cold, literally, (should explain the record home foreclosures and failing economy coupled with record oil prices and overall stick it to the people on the lower end of the totem pole mentality. No point in mentioning anything about this at a convention, or on the campaign trail). Hitler’s philosophy…either you are for our beliefs, or…

7.PROPAGANDA-The staged speeches, staged campaigning and nonsensical talking points, some which are outright lies. The choosing of an actress/politician/right-wing extremist/beauty contestant, for VP, counting on the uneducated to put the party into totalitarian rule. After Americans have 12 years (the past 8 + 4 more) of Republican Party rule… do you think Americans will ever remember living in a democracy? Also, this will make the Republicans the single most dominant party in American history, insuring, in definite, future control over America.

The choice of this election is not one just based on the economy or war: It’s of preserving “America” which we can understand any community in America being focused on doing; preserving our culture and heritage.

Republicans are focused on insuring a “puritanical- morally rigorous and strict” rule and American environment, always, being afraid, of those who differ from ourselves (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party). Ask yourself…do you fit in to this perspective of America?

It’s the obvious, that is disturbing…AMERICA is not puritanical and all her people should be working together to make her the best she can be, not, tearing her apart, by race, religion, culture, political or socio economic division.

MY FELLOW AMERICANS…the choice is simple…

Either America will move forward to the 21st century adapting a more global world perspective (along with a pressure relief for us all), or, we move “backward” and stay in the 20th century clinging to ideals and concepts that have never worked in Nazi Germany and will not work in America.

IF YOU THINK THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO
You are wrong. Before you vote…go on a letter writing campaign, show up at campaign stops in your area and raise hard questions, loudly, without malice, to in the least, raise doubts about their message. Fax over your concerns to your elected officials Washington office, particularly, those running for re-election. Bombard them with objections of things YOU find questionable. You will not be alone.

Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a concept used to describe political systems where a state (state of mind) regulates nearly every aspect of public and private life (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party).

The term is usually applied to Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, Shōwa Japan or communist states, such as USSR, Democratic Kampuchea, Vietnam, Mao-era and modern China and North Korea (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party).

Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology and propaganda disseminated through the state/party-controlled mass media, a single party that controls the state (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party), personality cults, central state/party-controlled economy, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party), the use of mass surveillance (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party), and widespread use of terror tactics (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party).

PEOPLE we are one Republican presidency from becoming totalitarian. Particularly, if the economy keeps declining for normal folks which make them less of a voice because of socio-economics; the ideology and propaganda will be amplified and the media more controlled then the last 8 years. The world is pretty close to seeing us as Nazi America based on our actions the last eight years (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party).

If we vote (McCain-Palin, Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party), we are telling the world…we the people, endorse their style of leadership. This will be the third time, for Americans doing so.

THIS WAS ISSUED TO AMERICA FROM THE WORLD

Leaders from around the world were willing to look once more to America as the leader of the free world.

Now, with the insulting choice of Palin as a vice president running mate, McCain has erased all that Obama accomplished with moving towards restoring America’s world image.

World leaders are not looking forward to pinpointing their country’s location on a map for Palin who just got a passport in 2006. Shakespeare cautioned us about individuals with vaulting ambition and a lack of self knowledge. He also told us (Hamlet) to watch out for the rash.

John McCain made a rash decision, which could haunt Americans for decades, especially when the media completes its vetting process.

Having lost love ones in the last war, we thank John McCain for his service, but I also remember some escaped, and some died. We are, not, willing to allow him to destroy the future for generations to come, because he was a POW.

How does John McCain intend to address the issues of our time?

His Vice President pick, Palin, recently asked “What does a Vice President do”?

Hence, she has ambition, but lacks the knowledge of what she can and can not do.

John McCain is just reckless, a figure straight out of Shakespeare’s tragedies, and we all know how those stories end.

@fireweed (23:20:17) :

What a great success already! WTG!!🙂

In honor of Johnny Mac I think I’ll put out punji sticks next. (Nah, not really…I don’t want to hurt anybody…well, actually, I do, but I won’t.)

I do remember your little trick – I’m sorry they lulled you into a false sense of security. They must feel very threatened by your sign.

I am still in favour of 220 volts.😉

Sue,
couldn’t agree with you more , he has no respect for anyone, what he called Cindy was demoral to him. I can’t figure out with all her money why she would stay with him.

That’s easy, status and attention. She is an egotist the same as McCain. She likes the status she has gained by being the wife of a Senator.

I’m betting that she has relatively little to do with McCain out of the limelight. I’m also betting that he is abusive to her in private. Just wait until he loses the presidency. I think you will see a divorce then. Well…maybe not. She probably is better off just letting him die, which he probably will do within the next couple of years.

Pamyua is an amazing Yupik musical group/folk, I think there’s four of them, they perform traditional Inuit songs as well as jazzy/Inuit crossover. You could call them “tribal funk”. I think that phrase has been used to describe them. The Blanchett brothers have beautiful voices, they are half african-american. Alaskans are very proud of them……….

How ironic that those self-sufficient, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, manly frontiersfolk (aka Alaska Repubicans) have given themselves over to big city lawyers who are engaging in frivolous and costly legal actions to stop a local investigation.

I find it pretty funny that the Republicans are rabidly anti lawyer until they need them to subvert the justice system. Someone needs to call them on that.

There is absolutely no way she reads the “Economist”. I think she put that out there to mistakenly lead people into thinking she reads about economics.

My husband subscribes to it and I occasionally read articles he refers me to. Mostly international politics and business. I REALLY doubt she reads it, between changing diapers perhaps?

I did see a copy of the John Burch Society on her desk, why didn’t she refer to that…..

This is how you boobytrap your sign. It is foolproof and will give them something to remember for at least 4 days.

I used to own a business with an office in a big building. Because of the nature of the business, I paid A LOT extra to have the two parking spaces closest to the back entry of the building. I had purposely chosen the office that was closest to that back entry so deliveries would be easier. The spaces were clearly marked as restricted for our office, with tow-away warnings.

There was another company that had space on the floor above me. Their employees and visitors would consistently park in our spaces. I tried asking them, several times, to no avail. I tried once to get the car towed away but by the time the tow-truck got there (3 hours later) they were gone. And I needed access to those spaces consistently throughout first and second shifts.

So this is what I did.

I’m not a fisherperson, so I had never heard of this product before: Stinkbait. One day one of my employees came in and every time I walked by her, the smell of fish was horrendous. I finally asked her what was the deal and she said her husband had inadvertently poked a hole in the tube of stinkbait and it had gotten on the driver’s side handle of their pickup. He didn’t realize it or he would have cleaned it up. When she got in the car, she turned on the radio, adjusted the rear view mirror, etc. By that time the stinkbait had warmed up a bit and she started to gag.

This is the deal with stinkbait: It is very sticky, it is oil based such that it will easily penetrate (and thus better adhere) to objects, organic and inorganic. And, although it is smelly in the tube, it really stinks up once it is warmed by body heat. Usually what happens is that the person who has touched stinkbait doesn’t realize that something is wrong on their hands until they have touched several other objects. Even after it is washed off your hands, it will stink for a few days afterwards.

Anyway, inspired by the misfortune of an employee, I bought some stinkbait and the next time one of their cars parked there, I put some on the underside of the door handles of the driver’s AND passenger’s side window.

Two hours later I went out to dump coffee grounds into the greenwaste bin, and the stinkbaited car had left, but there was one of the catering vans that routinely park in those stalls, often taking up TWO spaces.

So I did the same thing again.

You probably aren’t surprised that this was the end of that company’s people parking in our spots.

So this is what you do: get yourself some stinkbait and apply it to the parts of the sign they would have to touch to take the sign. You might put nail finishing nails with about 1/2″ sticking out up and down the post leaving just a perfect handhold in one place, and slather up the stinkbait there.

Well, if the MSM lemmings had a clue they would ask her who her favorite columnist or what is her favorite feature in the Economist. Hell, they could probably just ask her to spell “economist” to prove she was lying.

Anyone who regularly reads a publication will have their favorite features. I could go on for pages about the LATimes, but then I read it every day, cover to cover, except for sports and classifieds.

Don’t know if anyone saw the video of McBush here in KC(Independence) at the Truman Library where he had 2 tics of his left eye and then could not find his way of the stage. The two tics were close together time-wise, but fairly pronounced. I am not a doctor, but do have emergency medical training and they looked VERY neurological to me. Especially when you couple them with the fact that he could not get off the stage. Now you might say that lots of people get lost on stages, but this stage only has one entrance/ exit and is maybe 10 feet long and he continues to go through a WALL at the back of the stage. I am not kidding about there only being a wall at the back. I have been in that auditorium and it is tiny. The video was taken by someone who had tickets to be at that event by the way because that was the only way to get to go to that event.

Make of all of this what you will

There has been some speculation as to whether it’s a Cranial Nerve III or VII problem. It’s not Bell’s palsy. The drooping left eye occurred first, then the left side of the face started drooping, then the left side of his mouth started drooping. It may be either a progressive problem (i.e., it will worsen and spread over time) or a problem he has had multiple incidents of (such as small strokes).

The confusion can be from many sources.

The moral of the story: we need access to his medical records, and pronto. This is a national security issue at this point.

wow — that’s pretty cool

Yes, a non-stump speech wouldn’t have been such a spectacle at any other campaign event in recent history, but the truth is recent history has never seen Sarah Palin. Although today I will lay off the long saga of Palin herself, I must point out something like this has not only been a rarity in the past few months, but to me shows a turning point in the McCain campaign.

Granted, I’m not an Alaskan (rather a New Hampshire Yankee and proud of it) but I have been reading adn.com, mud flats, and Shannyn Moore’s website since the hyperkinetic Hee-Haw Palin was thrust upon the country; and I wanted to mention a couple of points just in case you’re not so overrun with emails that you’ve quit reading them.

1. I’m concerned by Palin’s lack of qualifications for the vice president (Peter Principal at best, dominionism probably), intellectual incuriosity, and her penchant for only rote memorization of Bush/Cheney/Rove/Shueneman talking points.

2. I’m concerned about the fact that Palin’s Alaska administration/state employees (especially the state attorney general) seem to be only close friends (“I like cows”) rather than qualified top-notch employees that answer to the state, rather than Palin.

3. I’m concerned that Palin appears to have run the Alaska bureaucracy much as Bush/Cheney et al have run the Washington bureaucracy–into the ground.

4. I’m concerned that the Anchorage Daily News appears (to this outsider at least) to be/have been complicit in hiding her incompetencies (i.e. her torture of the English language, her lack of judicial temperament or knowledge, her harassment of Mr. Monegan, her dominionist beliefs, her lack of empathy–i.e. Joe Biden’s debate emotionalism–etc.)

As a footnote, I’m also concerned that the Anchorage Daily News’ complicity is also evident in last weekend’s coverage of the Palin rally (a few filled seats in a large meeting room) vs the virtual lack of coverage of Obama’s streetside rally of hundreds of people supporting Obama and risking retribution by the restrictive Palin administration.

These points are what I think I know (superficially of course). I guess I’ll think I know more if adn.com does not fully cover a court ruling against the Palin supporters and their Texas law team later this week–or whenever.
