Palin Cancels Appearances. “NOT Because of Poll Numbers.”

18 09 2008

Hmmmmm….

Sarah Palin has cancelled her two-day swing through California next week, the McCain campaign said today.

Whether the planned Sept. 25 fundraiser in Silicon Valley, which will raise money for state and federal GOP efforts, will go on without Palin as headliner is unclear.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said the Alaskan governor’s calendar was “fluid” and he could not say where Palin would go instead of California, nor if she would reschedule a visit here before Election Day. McCain and Palin are campaigning today and tomorrow in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Then they will head to Florida, which is shaping up to be a very competitive state.

A Field Poll released earlier this week found that while Palin had helped McCain solidify support among his GOP base in California, the ticket had made no inroads among independent voters, a key bloc the GOP needs to win to be competitive in California. Among likely voters, the Barack Obama-Joe Biden ticket has a 16 percentage point advantage over the Republicans.

And a national poll out today showed Obama with a 5-point lead over McCain, a reversal from their standings before the Wall Street economic crisis hit.

Gorka said the decision to send her elsewhere next week was not made because of the polling results. “It’s a scheduling thing,” he said.

So…it’s a “scheduling thing”, but “her calendar is fluid” and nobody knows where she’s going to show up next. And it is NOT, I repeat, NOT because of poll numbers. Maybe she was afraid they’d make her play “Stump the Candidate.”

I’ll be sporting my Obama togs for the Palin/McShame rally on Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis on Friday. I’ve gotten a half dozen local emails on the subject, organizing car pools etc (I live 150 miles out)…so I’m thinkin’ there’ll be quite a few hecklers drowning her out there as well. It seems unlikely, but I bet she can flub up Minneapolis (Annapolis? Indianapolis? Metropolis? any other ideas?). I cannot wait! Will report back.

I’ll move this here, because it is more relevant to this post.

I think the Republicans are setting things up for something big to happen – like maybe a withdrawal by Palin or her ouster by the Party.

That October 2 debate date is getting closer, and we seem to be seeing less and less of her highness lately.

I think they are slowly weeding her out, and a replacement is waiting in the wings to step right in.

They know that the worst thing that can possibly happen is for her to debate Biden, and I think they are going to avoid that at all costs.

You’re right AKM, it is DEFINITELY because of the latest numbers. Palin is in the beginning of a free-fall and will soon be out the door.

Obama is strengthening his lead daily, and although we still have 47 days or so to go, I can hear that fat lady starting to warm up her vocal chords already.

She’ll be singin’ soon !!

Two thoughts:

1. I think they are dumping her schedule to put her on his. Would anyone be surprised if you didn’t see them campaigning alone for the rest of the race?

2. They may have booked 15,000 for the fundraiser in Orange County but we could have gotten 50,000 out to protest. Too bad, we’ll have to send our signs to another state.

I don’t think they will dump her at this point. I admit, I thought she was going to be dumped early on in the game. But McCain strikes me as the kind of man to get mad when he doesn’t get his way and likes to grit his teeth and dig in his heels. Kind of like a silent tantrum before someone pushes him over the edge. Shouldn’t take long at this rate.

Overheard at the Costco eyeglass counter today…”.these don’t make me look like Sarah Palin, do they? ” and the fellow says..”No.” “Oh good….most of the men I know seem to like her…” He says, “oh no….she’s scary…” …We all then looked at each other, bonded and smiled….no words necessary. It felt good. My well educated and informed Obama supporting daughter was astounded after she read The New Yorker article about SP.She had no idea that she was such a raging conservative. The general public and the MSM are just a week behind all of us…..that’s all.
There’s no way THEY can come up with an October surprise as every day is a jaw dropping surprise of Republican nonsense.

Jeez you all move fast so I will repost here:

I actually think that they pulled out of California because it will be a waste of money and time. I don’t think the coffers are filling up so quickly over in Palin/McCain (yes, I meant to type that) territory. I also think they got wind that California protesters were going to show up in full force if they did show up.

Seriously though, what can we do to get Her to release tax returns and health records? Isn’t there a law on this or something?

Republican congressman endorses Obama
Posted: 05:08 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) — Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, the Maryland Republican who lost a heated primary challenge earlier this year, said Friday he’s endorsing Democrat Barack Obama’s White House bid.

Gilchrest, who has served in the House for close to two decades, told a Maryland radio station Obama and his running mate Sen. Joe Biden have the experience needed for the job.

“My perspective is that the ticket is Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden that they have the breadth of experience, I think they are prudent, they are knowledgeable,” he told WYPR. “We just can’t use four more years of the same kind of policy that’s somewhat hazardous, which leads to recklessness.”

The move doesn’t come as a big surprise: Gilchrest is a strong opponent of the Iraq war and has voted for a timeline for withdrawal. He’s also endorsed the Democrat running to succeed him.

CNN’s calls to Gilchrest’s office went unanswered.

This is not making sense. The fundraisers are to bring in money — Orange County is big money. Why would they cancel over polls? Could they have canceled because of planned protests? I don’t think it has to do with polls.

18 09 2008
FiredUp AKA Falter Locust Palin

I think they did get wind of planned protests. I know that myself and at least one other faithful mudpuppy (Small Town Girl is her handle I believe) were already on it, and had e-mailed NARAL, which was already on it.

They stood to make a decent chunk of change here in the Bay Area (and may still- the news articles were unclear on whether the fundraisers would go ahead without her now that they already have people’s money), but I suspect that in addition to needed some more “teaching time” with Ms. Palin, they realized the money isn’t worth the press of all the protestors that would have likely shown up.

They’re not gonna dump her, though I had hopes early on (AKM: you promised us plenty of scandals. where are they??) The base is all they’ve got now, and they love her. They’d lose more base than they’d pick up independents. It would look desperate because it would be desperate.

They need the time elsewhere. McCain can’t sustain a rally on his own, and they need to give her more time to prepare for the debate.

I think Katie Couric will be tough on her. Couric needs the boost, and she won’t be afraid of being called sexist. She actually can be tenacious in an interview.

GOP already KNOW they will lose CA, IL, MA & NY. No doubt. Big, big states.
So, the must concentrate on the other biggies: MI, OH, TX, FL, PA.

So they let her debate Biden.

She performs over expectations and the base is thrilled. MSM eat it up.
-or-
She f&*ks up, then a surprise announcement: an illness is causing concern (fill in the blank).
But she’s a fighter, she (or the family member) WILL lick this thing, ALL of America is praying for her speedy recovery (cough, cough). Watch the poll numbers.

Closing in on the elections date… a turn for bad… the sympathy vote.

Election Day after. She leaves ‘by her own choice’ to concentrate on personal family matters.

IF McNasty dumps her and puts in Leiberman, he will have to spin it as something good for the party, leadership, maverick, not willing to settle for a VP who has been compromised so much. Laughing No Longer...

from J-street:

Congratulations! Your voice was heard.

I just received word that the Iran Unity Rally organizers have asked Sarah Palin not to speak on Monday.

This is the right decision. A unity rally to express communal solidarity is no place for partisan politics. And to give such prominence to Sarah Palin alone would have spoken neither to, nor for, the American Jewish community.

This is a victory not just for you and for the 20,188 others who signed J Street’s petition. It’s a victory for the broader community. And we’re pleased the rally’s organizers came to their senses so quickly.

Victories like these don’t come easily – or often. But when they do, we should savor them, at least briefly.

We’ll be back at it tomorrow, because our next task is making sure that the messages at the rally reflect the view of a majority of Americans – Jewish and otherwise – that the best way to deal with Iran is through tough, smart diplomacy – not saber rattling and threats of force.

Stay tuned.

My 2 cents for what it is worth: SWWNBN said “Palin/McCain” ticket. He is pissed. They are together campaigning from now forward. That’s my bet.

Help! Okay, I consider myself a fairly intelligent person but I think one of my mudpals will be better at the following task…

I just went on http://www.thepetitionsite.com to see if anyone had done a “Release Palin Tax/Health records now” and there was nothing. So I thought I’d start one for us but then I chickened out. Any web pros want to jump on this so we can make it viral? I would do it but I want it to be a great site and I’m not that good at it. Who’s up to the challenge?

Okay… now I’m confused – how many appearances has she cancelled? Tampa, Seattle, CA… I’m not counting New York if the organisers actually won’t let her appear. Or am I just being thick?

Interesting suggestion from an American blogger for a UK newspaper about how to reduce Palin’s support among men; Title IX:

“Palin, as has been explained lately, is actually more popular (has higher approval ratings) with men than with women. If I were a devious Democratic consultant, I’d make sure via under-the-radar means like fliers and so forth that the red-blooded males of Ohio, Florida and other swing states with lots of colleges knew that Sarah Palin’s only idea about women’s equality was an idea that has come at the direct expense of male college athletes across the country! Chip, chip, chip, chip away. Every bit matters.”

The answer for the cancellations is very simple, as KOS has mentioned today: when McCain appears alone, only about 20% of the seats are filled, and when Palin appears with him, it’s packed. THEY NEED HER TO GET CROWDS FOR MCSAME! Recent stories have folks leaving in droves while he’s speaking — folks turn out to see HER speak, then leave.

As for California, they already see the handwriting on the wall there, and want to spend time in states where races are closer.

More on the SF Rally (recently cancelled, hee hee):

“The change is a shocker, because Palin’s presence had electrified the GOP base in California. Party insiders were distributing 15,000 tickets to her Sept. 26 rally in Orange County — and fundraisers reported an almost instantaneous sell-out of her two $1,000-a-head Sept. 25 fundraising events in Orange County and Santa Clara.

(snip)

The change comes in the same week a new Field Poll showed that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama still leads Republican presidential candidate John McCain in California by a whopping 16-point margin.”

I keep reading the commenters here saying that SOMETHING BIG is in the works with the Republicans, nobody seems to know what it is, but they definately seem to have something in the works that will rock the nation. Maybe we should consider whether or not they plan to nullify the election due to a national emergency and leave the Republican administration in office, they have the right (given to them by GW himself in his self-authored presidential directive NSPD51) to do so, and I’ve thought for a long time that Bush was considering doing just that, why else would he have waited until his second term weas half over before he wrote it? Remember, he knew he would get two terms because he had the wheels in motion to steal the second term soon after getting into office for the first one. He won by less than half the number of votes that they eliminated in Ohio in 2004.

I wrote two blogs a long time ago on NSPD51 and H.R.1955 (the homegrown terrorism act). I’m going to repost them on my wordpress blog with the text of the acts included. Give me a few minutes to get them from my myspace blogs and they will be up on my site shortly, I suggest everyone interested in these acts read the text carefully, Bush is a master of “vague” so the implications come through, but only for those with a little understanding of legal language.
Also, ignore any dates I may have mentioned in my part of the blogs, as I said I wrote them quite a while back,(and I’m not going to write them all over again now) the important thing here is the text of these bills.

She was going to do a fundraiser at Tom Siebel (founder of Siebel Systems) in Woodside, CA, and that was announced ~Sept 5, well before many people had a good look at Palin. It was supposed to be sold out, so we’ll see what happens, and whether people are so supportive now.

Silicon Valley has funny politics, though. There are actually lots of Republicans, but they tend towards being moderate social-liberal/fiscal conservative Republicans of the old sort that has become a threatened species. Think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Christie Todd Whitman, Olympia Snowe, etc. Many Republicans here are actually environmentalists also.

CA last voted for a Republican President in 1988, i.e., George H. W. Bush.

I’m still amazed that the administrations response to the crisis is to have the public absorb the losses caused by deregulation and greed. For so-called proponents of free market forces, the response is decidedly socialistic.

Well, this is long, but maybe apropos here, given Palin’s approach:

DRILL, BABY, DRILL … BURN, BABY, BURN or
A LETTER TO AMERICA’S GREAT GRANDCHILDREN IN 2100AD

1) IN 2008, MANY SAID:

DRILL, BABY, DRILL … which really meant:

BREAK, PIGGY, BREAK
Fossil fuels were our one-time piggybank, ours (not yours) to burn as fast as we could to keep gas prices down.

Cheap energy made the US rich for a century or so, so it would last forever. Hubbert predicted US production would Peak around 1970 (it did), and many petroleum geologists were predicting world Peak Oil no later than 2015, but we certainly didn’t want to hear that. Oil was energy income to be burned, not energy capital to be invested.
Sorry you have so little left. It was a good party while it lasted,

And many said:

COOL, BABY, COOL
The Earth isn’t warming.
And even if it is, it has nothing to do with humans.

But, if it is warming
…It will stop soon, so don’t worry
…And it has nothing to do with CO2 (it’s the Sun, cosmic rays, the oceans…something…anything else)
…And warming will be good for you. Plants are starving for more CO2. Western Fuels Association said so.
…And doing anything would be too expensive, so don’t.
…And in any case, even if it’s real, we surely can find enough higher priorities not to worry about it.

And even if warming isn’t all good, humans are really adaptable.
…And if not, it’s too late to do anything useful, so it’s OK.
…And besides, you in 2100 will be 6-15X richer than we are, so you can afford anything.

And always, there must be no government regulation of CO2 or anything else.

Sorry.

And many thought:

SPEND, BABY, SPEND
But not in education and research, which is why we drastically cut US research in energy efficiency in the 1980s. We had better uses for the money, we thought.
Sorry about the debts we left.

2) AND, IN 2100, WE GUESS YOU MUST:

PANT, BABY, PANT
We’re sure you enjoy the heat, already several degrees C above that narrow range maintained in the 7,000-year history of agriculture. Crops now grow in different places. Or don’t. You’ve relearned Liebig’s Law of the Minimum.

You may have seen pictures of mountain glaciers and snowpack that used to act as water storehouses. We hope someone built a lot of dams to replace them while there was money.

NorthEast: sorry about the loss of maple sugar and skiing to Canada.
California: sorry about the loss of snowpack, the Delta being underwater, and the heat in Napa, but the wine business is good in Canada.
SouthWest: sorry about the megadroughts and Water Wars around the Colorado River, at least you’re used to it.
SouthEast: sorry you’ve had to learn about Water Wars. Hopefully there’s no shooting.
Upper Mid-West: you should have plenty of water. Sorry about the bigger floods, and constant rebuilding with little petroleum.

SHOVEL, BABY, SHOVEL
Most of our infrastructure was built over a century with $30/barrel oil. Sorry you don’t have that any more.
For those on the coasts, we didn’t invest in alternatives while there was money, but raising dikes with shovels is good exercise for you.
Sorry sea level is 3 feet higher, maybe 6 feet.
Sorry you don’t have the energy and money to defend all the coastal towns at the same time.
Sorry about New Orleans.

PLOW, BABY, PLOW
For the 20% of you now back on farms, that’s good exercise, too, and daily manual labor makes kids disciplined. In 2008, 2% of Americans fed us all, and more. We had cheap petroleum for tractors and trucks, and cheap nitrogen fertilizer from natural gas, and you don’t. Food used to be really cheap.
Sorry.

In 1900, 40% of Americans farmed, with draft animals and manual labor. You’re not back there yet, but it’s not so bad, urban dwellers can adjust. Old Amish lifestyle probably hasn’t changed, they’re good farmers, and 8th-grade education is plenty, so check them out.
Sorry you can’t afford many scientists, engineers, and doctors, but they Peaked also.

FLY, BABY, FLY
We had a lot of these things called airplanes, they were like busses with wings. You can probably see a few in museums, along with gasoline-powered cars. Do you have museums?
Sorry.

SACRIFICE, BABY, SACRIFICE
For centuries, most American generations sacrificed to build better futures for their descendants. That meant:
risking long one-way trips to a new places,
leaving farms with topsoil for their kids,
planting orchards, and not burning them from firewood
investing in schools and science, (Google land grant university)
working several jobs to get that first kid to college,
fighting the battles of World War II.
People like Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln thought long and hard about the future, and took risks for it, and we revered them for it. We revered many more ordinary not-famous people, too.

This worked so well, we built the richest, most technically-advanced civilization here, and after WW II, the permanent leading country on the planet, with no more sacrifice needed, we thought.
Sorry.

Sacrifice is character-building, so we’ve made sure you’ll have a lot more of it than we did.

But you probably remember our generation and hope we have a much hotter place than you, permanently:
BURN, BABY, BURN

3) Because this didn’t have to happen, and still might not, although time is running out, and the last few decades haven’t helped much:

REALITY, BABY, REALITY

Oil and gas are just too useful – sooner or later, the USA will use all we can get. The only choice is whether to burn it as fast as possible, or stretch it as far as possible, and maybe even save some for later Americans. We might be able to keep the planet near the same narrow temperature zone we’ve had throughout all recorded human history, if we can resist temptation to burn too much coal (and tar sands and shale oil), and this won’t be easy.

If we don’t rework our economy to improve efficiency and use other energy sources ahead of the inevitable downturn in oil+gas, our economy is toast. If we then get desperate and use too much unsequestered coal, our climate will be even toastier. By 2200, many of our coastal cities will have real trouble, perhaps like 20-foot sea level rise. 2100’s likely 3-6-foot rise is already bad enough.

Seacoasts help countries be richer, and the US has a lot of cities there. That’s good for the US … and really bad, if we have to rebuild cities elsewhere … without cheap petroleum or gas. It won’t help China or India or Europe much either, although Russia won’t notice too much.

GET SMART, BABY, GET SMART
+ Know that some warming is guaranteed, and don’t kid ourselves about it. Stop building at sea level.
Build things intended to last, not be thrown away quickly.
+ Get serious about energy efficiency in every way possible, as fast as we practically can.
Most states should be able to match California’s current energy efficiency, if we want to, and then improve.
+ Run a sensible long-term R&D program, while rapidly deploying the technology we already have, and not sitting around waiting for magic breakthroughs.
+ Ramp up sustainable energy sources as fast as possible, stretch our use of natural gas, and cut down coal.
+ Electrify transport and stretch our use of oil, to give us time to develop practical biofuels for the remaining transport that is hard to electrify.

HOPE, BABY, HOPE
THEN we might avoid the worst effects of global warming AND
+ The US might just enter the 22nd Century with a 22nd Century economy,
+ Still be rich enough to cope with the warming already in the pipeline.
+ Still be rich enough to afford R&D.

FEAR, BABY, FEAR
BUT, if we want America’s descendants to enter the 22nd Century with a broken 20th Century economy, and
+ Abandon some coastline by 2100, and some major cities by 2200,
+ Abandon some irigated farmland, because we can’t pump water there any more,
+ Have spent our money on “stranded assets” that are no longer useful or maintainable,
+ No longer have anything like the rich society we do in 2008.

THEN thinking only DRILL, BABY, DRILL is a good way to do it, and result will be:

BURN, BABY, BURN

Joe Romm’s http://www.climateprogress.org is a good source on such topics, as is his book “Hell and High Water”.

Bryan Fagan’s “The Great Warming” is a well-written account of human life during the “Medieval Warming Period”, which helped Europe a bit, but wasn’t so good for some other areas. Read about droghts and water and building cities in deserts, like Chaco Canyon. We’re already warmer now, and rising fast, and that rainfall patterns move.

Study Charles Hall’s “Balloon Chart” and learn about Energy Return on Investment at http://www.theoildrum.com/node/3949 . We no longer get 100 barrels of oil from investing 1. We no longer even get 30, we get 10-20, because of course, we used the best first. Building deep-sea oil platforms and pipelines from Alaska’s North Slope uses much more energy than drilling a well in Texas or California. Much below 5:1 industrial civilization doesn’t work well. Follow http://www.theoildrum.com/ , and learn why tar sands and shale oil are difficult.

Combine that with Robert Ayres’ talk: http://www.bren.ucsb.edu/news/documents/robert_ayres.PPT, to see where energy comes from, how much is wasted, and (on the last slide) what might happen to the US GDP over the next few decades.

We’ll have (a little) oil and gas for centuries, but it won’t be cheap. If we use coal without sequestering the CO2, our top climate scientists tell us what happens, and it’s not good: http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/0704/0704.2782.pdf .

There’s been some talk at FlyerTalk of Bush declaring marshall law after the election and himself “president for life.”

This is but one piece of fallout from the “Patriot” Act – a worse piece of legislation has never been written. A huge law, with vast implications, passed shortly after 9/11 and never read by anyone who voted for it.

My one gripe about Obama is that he voted for the Patriot Act 2.

Go to the front page of MSNBC and you will see a new article about the “Tent Cities” that are popping up due to foreclosures in this country. Reminiscent of the “Hoovervilles” that popped up during the depression.

Pres. Hoover of course was the same guy who said the economy was “fundamentally strong” as the stock market was crashing. Sound familiar?

It was a democrat, FDR who got the country out of that depression, and it will be another democrat, Obama, who gets us out of the current economic crisis.

Read the article and pass this message on to everyone you know. I swear I WILL NOT let this country be duped by the LIES AND DECEPTIONS of McCain and Palin.

Has anyone considered they called off the California fundraiser as a public relations issue?
Maybe they’re gonna have another Obama celebrity ad? If they have a picture of him with Babs or something?
Don’t yell at me! I’m just playing devil’s advocate.
I suffered serious Post Palin Depression when that church lady was trotted out in front of the world a few weeks ago, so I’m hoping she swirls down the drain…soon!
But the Rs are evil folks and I think it’s part of a master plan to attempt to pull off a “we’re so redneck-y regular” we don’t do that high-falutin’ California cocktail party thang.
I couldn’t stomach listening to her voice today, but I did see the crawl say “we’re not pretentious”…and thought, oh crap, they’re gonna go hit that angle.
But there is a picture of McCain getting on a boat in Italy with Anne Hathaway and her con man criminal Italian boyfriend, so hey, whatever.
But I digress into tabloid fodder, here’s the real point:
Obama is now focused and talking economy and not letting them rattle him…..
I hope and pray there are no democratic slip-ups….
The email hacking scared me because I thought, oh no! Please don’t let it be a diehard Obama supporter….please don’t give the Rs any ammo!
They are so slick…..and I hope they are truly as weak as they look.
Darth Rove’s recent see-through digs at the Republicans makes me very suspicious….I hope he’s just trying to preserve is own legacy as not the most evil guy around.
And that he’s not positioning for a more direct hit on the Dems.
I’m rambling.

Nate Silver at http://www.fivethirtyeight.com has Obama winning in the electoral college again (this is simulations, not state by state polls).

He also has a really interesting analysis of where Obama and McCain are polling in various states relative to their national average. This gives them a good idea where they need to spend time.
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/colorado-rates-as-most-important-state.html

If there’s something BIG going on I’ll gladly eat my words, but I think it’s a combination of the need to reassess the map with the polls going south, the need to keep a draw for McCain and keep him from having to spend so much energy at his rallies – so they’ll travel together instead of separating – and the need to tutor her with the people who are traveling with McCain.

I had a feeling I wasn’t alone. In fact, yesterday I was a the post office near a retirement community (so me and my kids were by FAR the youngest ones in there) and I heard the following: “well, I don’t know if either Obama or McCain knows what to do about this crisis, but I will tell you FOR SURE who doesn’t know- that Sarah Palin”. Well, I about burst out laughing and turned around to see an older man talking to two women. He looked at me and asked me what I thought, and I told him “I think you are being nice.” He liked that.

At that point the ENTIRE post office starts talking about how Sarah Palin is completely unfit.

I go along with the Senator Dale Bumpers quote “when they say it’s not about the money, it’s always about the money.” Everyone is assuming that McCain and company only worry about the Christian Right and the Independents. They also have to worry about losing traditional conservatives like David Brooks who wrote an OP Ed against her lack of experience in the NY Times on Sept 15th that listed other major conservative commentators who are opposed to her.

Perhaps the poll problem was one of likely contributors in Orange County –
McCain would never mention that supporter were canceling their attendance at a fund raiser, particularly if they made it clear that they were unhappy over her. A convenient switch to Florida and a misleading but close to the mark denial might help quell the dissent while they figure what to do next. If they keep her, they offend the traditional conservatives, if they drop her they offend the radicals. Either way it looks like they may screw the moose. Yuck, what an image!

Mike Bradner, former Alaska Speaker of the House, has made this available (pdf)….”Why hasn’t Alaska Closed Ranks around Palin?”

“Gov. Sarah Palin¹s handling of Troopergate is getting more and more troubling. She has reneged on her pledge, made before becoming the Republican vice-presidential nominee, to cooperate with the Legislature¹s investigation. While stonewalling the independent inquiry, she is trying her side of the case in the press. Working on her behalf Monday, McCain-for-president operatives ripped into Walt Monegan and the legislators overseeing the inquiry.
Whatever happened to the ³open and transparent² administration she promised Alaskans?

All the allegations about partisanship, though, are a typical political distraction. Sen. Hollis French is not the one interviewing witnesses, checking documents and issuing the findings. The investigation is being conducted by a retired prosecutor with a solid professional reputation, Steven Branchflower.

Branchflower enjoyed significant Republican support in the Legislature when he ran the Office of Victims Rights and proposed laws to help crime victims. It’s just not credible to claim that all of a sudden, he’s a partisan hack being manipulated by Team Obama.”

Hilarious, from Chris Kelly in the Huff Post today:

“You might think “I’ll end greed” would be the most mortifying thing John McCain could say at one sitting. You’d be wrong. At Wednesday’s town hall — his first with Sarah Palin — he topped himself with this explanation of her credentials:

“She has been commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Fact. On September 11 a contingent of the Guard deployed to Iraq and her son happened to be one of them so I think she understands national security challenges.”

Which is fine except:

The governor of Alaska doesn’t command the National Guard in combat overseas.

Sarah Palin didn’t deploy anyone anywhere on September 11th. She was a guest speaker at an Army deployment ceremony.

Track Palin isn’t in the National Guard; he’s in the Army.

Sometimes it seems like it’s more than John McCain can handle, just keeping all the lies about Sarah Palin straight in his head. Tomorrow he’ll say she’s in the Air Force herself, on a plane she bought on eBay, bombing the bridges at Toko-Ri.”

Speaking of Country First,

Why did I have to hear from all my conservative family members (don’t ask- it only makes me sad) for months about how Barack Obama doesn’t wear a flag pin and he didn’t put his hand on his heart during the pledge, etc, and I haven’t heard a SINGLE WORD about the fact that Sarah Palin NEVER wears a US flag pin, only an Alaska pin.

I mean, am I the ONLY one who sat there watching her at the convenction (ok, only for a few minutes, admittedly) while she talked about Country First and she was wearing an Alaska pin???

And why didn’t we hear about this when the AIP issue was being discussed??

Now, please understand, I do not think that wearing or not wearing a flag pin makes one patriotic or not. However I find it very interesting that the Repubs are all over it when the person not wearing one is Barack Obama, and suspiciously silent when it is Sarah Palin.

Not sure whether this one should be titled read-it-and-weep or read-it-and-laugh… The headline reads, “Obama elistist, says Lady Rothschild.”

The article goes on to talk about how Lady Rothschild, a former Hillary supporter and fundraiser, is now an ardent McCain supporter. She and hubby, of the British banking part of the Rothschild family, split their time between NY and their British country estate. [And SHE thinks Obama’s elitist??? Puhleeeze! But it gets better…]
“It’s not a bad life”, she says, and she’d like you to have one just like it. That’s why she’s backing McCain, not Obama. “I have a wonderful life,” the wealthy socialite told Blitzer yesterday. “I want John McCain and Sarah Palin in the White House so other people can have that wonderful life,” whereupon she resigned her DNC Platform Committee membership. When Blitzer asked if she was getting grief from Dems, she got a bit pissy. “I’m getting it all the time, particularly from the likes of you, the liberal elite,” she quipped. “You’re the elite, not me.”

And just who does she figure will serve her tea and scrub her loo when we all have that wonderful life????

Speaking of Country First, is it now unpatriotic to pay taxes?

It’s not like the federal government asks people to do all that much more than that. You don’t have to vote, don’t have to serve in the military or Peace Corps, don’t have to run for office, don’t have to contribute to political campaigns, don’t have to volunteer in emergencies or to help poor Americans get by, don’t have to help out kids (even your own) with their homework, don’t even have to fly the flag.

Sarah Palin Has Secret Style Team, Wore Pricey Valentino At RNC (SEE BEFORE/AFTER PHOTOS)

Insiders tell Page Six Palin has a secretive circle of stylists who dress her for events. For her big speech in St. Paul, where she accepted the GOP’s vice-presidential nod, this fashion-conscious team encouraged the Alaska governor to splurge on a $2,500 jacket from Saks Fifth Avenue designed by Valentino Garavani.

….One source familiar with Palin’s primping posse told us, “They do not want the American public to know that Palin is using stylists or that she is paying for expensive clothes this early on in the campaign.”

Click on Cartoon Pig Dog’s name to access some of the bills on her website. Each state also has an emergency powers act, permitting the state to declare an emergency & martial law (plus other deputized people), with the supension of our constitutional rights. Yes, very scary. This was all part of Bush’s continuing drumming of fear-fear-fear, and far too many people in power voted our rights away. You can google for the law in your particular state. You’ll probably find an almost carbon copy of the federal acts.

You can also google for info on the i9/11 act, written and awaiting the right event to enforce it. I know several Canadians who are concerned about a proposed tiered form of internet access in their country, which some fear will lead to restricted access. (Northern neighbors, please add some insight about this.) Meanwhile, China limits internet access, which the international press experienced during the Olympics. It isn’t hard to do.

The GOP knows that California is likely to go for Obama, so it would make sense for them to have Palin appear in the battleground states more often…. and probably at Wal-mart of all places. Washington State usually votes Democratic, but I am concerned that McCain has gained ground here because of Palin. I think the reason Palin was pulled in Ca is because the McCain campaign sees no point in campaigning in a state where there is not a chance they will win.

As far as the lost money? The McCain campaign selfishly doesn’t care. That money raised goes to the RNC not the McCAin campaign. I’ll hazard the guess that the RNC would see much more value in spending it on various congressional and senate campaigns where they might actually feel like they will get a return on their dollar. I’m pretty sure they are starting to see the writing on the wall about now.

Also, Sarah has to be fitted for the transmitter she’s going to need in her ear for her debate with Biden. ; )

There have always been a few “rich” people who think they control the world, throughout time, in many major cultures. Some of those “rich” people are also insane. And although it’s tempting to think Bush gave all of our $$ to China because of some one-government goal, having been to China, I highly doubt that their government shares that “one government” world view.

Be sure to check with your local PBS affiliate to see when Charlie Rose will be airing in your city.

But enough about this issue. What about the election? And what about John McCain? We’ve all heard the various reasons why he shouldn’t be elected. That he’s as much a puppet of the neocons as George W. Bush was; that he’s a hothead, a philanderer; that he’s K Street’s Manchurian candidate, a man willing to do anything to pander to the fringes of his party. There is also the fact that he is too old to be president of just about anything. Local chamber of commerce, maybe. The president of the United States? Certainly not. And then there is this: he parts his hair on the wrong side of his head. That is to say, the right side. He’s a right-parter, which puts him in the 10 percent minority of Americans who part their hair this way. John and Catherine Walter, a brother-and-sister team of sociologists, who have spent a frightening amount of time researching the subject, conclude that “a hair part has a crucial impact on interpersonal relationships by affecting immediate character appraisal, perceived personality traits, self-perception, and self-development.”

The Walkers point out that “the individuals who are potentially put in the worst position are men who part their hair on the right and who are also striving to be assessed positively within a traditional male role.” Right-parters, like McCain, they say, tend to exhibit right-side-of-the-brain traits such as obsessiveness, defensiveness, extremism, fanaticism, weakness, and woodenness. On the other hand, they can also demonstrate positive traits such as memory of pictures and musical perception. So maybe flash cards and musical accompaniment to classified information should be the order of the day in a McCain White House-bad news could be presented as a ballad; good news could be delivered in the style of a show tune. Six presidents who parted their hair on the right side of their heads were all-with one notable exception-deemed failures: James Buchanan, Warren G. Harding, John Tyler, Andrew Johnson, and Chester A. Arthur. The sixth, Ronald Reagan, was a huge success to many, a failure to others, depending on where you come down on subjects such as Iran-contra and the sweeping deregulation that has led to today’s banking crisis.

Many of our most successful presidents either were left-parters or had no discernible part. This group includes Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson. Lincoln, like Jimmy Carter, was a right-parter who switched to the left once he was in office. (Our current officeholder is a left-parter. But that only goes to show that the exception really does prove the rule.)

Bill Clinton has no discernible part. Hillary Clinton is a left-parter. Rush Limbaugh is a right-parter. Non-parters, like the majority of Americans these days, including Democratic nominee Barack Obama, are, in the minds of Hollywood casting agents, balanced personalities. But then the final word on who will make it big in D.C. goes to DC Comics. In the Christopher Reeve Superman films, meek, mild-mannered Clark Kent parted his hair on the right. The man of steel, on the other hand, parted his on the left.

White Agate,, according to the bill he can use anything that he deems a “state of emergency” that could include a natural disaster (like a hurricane), a war (like the two we are in and the other two that they are planning), or anything at the presidents discretion, he can put the label “emergency” on just about anything he wants. And it was written by Bush himself, you said you’d like to see it, it is on my site now, and it is signed by George Bush.

And while you are at it, read his other one on homegrown terrorism, I justed posted the texts to both bills. (just click on my name and start reading.

here’s an interesting “factoid”. Nostradamus reportedly prephesized that the 2008 election will see a woman in the presidency. Now, with all the talk of McLame’s health, or lack thereof, people may think it would possibly fall to McSarah (IF they pulled off the largest travesty of American justice ever). NOT so fast! Recall that the Speaker of the House is third in line… and a woman. Should something happen to whomever is elected, she would be it. I can only hope that this is another misinterpretation of the master’s writings. Or perhaps he was thinking that Hillary would have won. I dunno, but it is interesting reading. Just do a search for Nostradamus prophecies and 2008 election.

For those who haven’t seen it, its not a “great” movie, but it takes place in the future where everyone is really stupid and only know things that are said in advertisements. Whether or not she is replaced, even for a manufactured family tragedy (thinking Bristol here), McCain’s goose is cooked. If McCain is clearly too unwell to move forward, the vast majority of voters will not accept her at the top of the ticket. Could SWWNBN be having a mental meltdown? I’m not defending Sarah, but the before and after photos don’t tell a true story. The pink “before” outfit is an Eskimo “Kuspuk”, and the pic was taken in Barrow, an Inupiat village. She was probably given the Kuspuk, or summer parka” while there.

It is a traditional outfit worn in Alaska by Alaska Natives. A group Sarah has not been very supportive of, by the way. Alaska villages are on the verge of collapse, and a huge migration is happening to the cities. What a dream it would be to see a politician come out in opposition to the “Patriot” Act and all the other nonsense that has overtaken our once-great country since 9/11. However, most fear they will appear to be “soft on terrorism” and hence won’t say a word for fear of losing votes.

Obama, last year, came close when he said something about the government keeping us fearful. However, I believe he needs to come out and say he will dismantle both DHS and the TSA as they function today. He needs to come out against REAL ID as doing nothing to make us more secure and, in fact, becoming a national ID card.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but I fear the loss of freedoms as a result of 9/11 much more than I fear any economic crisis. An economic crisis will resolve itself long before we as a people stand up against the other assaults to the Constitution.

I kid you not.. when Nixon was in the White House- he asked the Rand Corp. to do a study as to whether he could do this very thing. I read it in the WSJ at the time… it was frightening then and it is now…

“we should consider whether or not they plan to nullify the election due to a national emergency and leave the Republican administration in office, they have the right (given to them by GW himself in his self-authored presidential directive NSPD51) to do so, and I’ve thought for a long time that Bush was considering doing just that, why else would he have waited until his second term weas half over before he wrote it? Remember, he knew he would get two terms because he had the wheels in motion to steal the second term soon after getting into office for the first one. He won by less than half the number of votes that they eliminated in Ohio in 2004. ”

BUT if this were to happen- (and I do not think it would) there would be another revolution like no one could believe!

Rhett O’Rical, the “airport” is the northern suburbs here. It’s very small, mostly used for private planes. Think hanger.

The initial plan was for a Palin protest there but that idea was scuttled when the Obama campaign and the mayor here asked that it be moved downtown instead.
(Our mayor is a huge Obama supporter, as well as someone who never misses an opportunity to show off our city). The rally morphed from a Anti Palin rally into the ‘ Rally to Restore the Economy’, deliberately scheduled to coincide with the McCain/ Palin event.

It’s a story about the tent cities (today’s version of Hoovervilles) that are springing up around the country. The GOP’s wet dream, these are people who have no current or permanent address, so obviously they can’t vote.

And, like when Reagan redefined things to make the unemployment stats look better than they were/are, BushCo has redefined homeless to exclude people who are staying with relatives or friends, staying in campgrounds, or staying in hotels and motels for more than a week.

plwalsh asks what is patriotic? I know — judging by my neighborhood — it’s having a flag on your house!!!!

It was sad for me today to walk the neighborhood for Obama, or maybe it was just this particular experience? We walked & walked, most of the people on my list were registered republicans (thought they weren’t supposed to be on my list!!!) voting republican. Of course, 90% are or were in the military, so I am going to give them a pass. They were brainwashed in boot camp. One lady I talked to said her husband has his mind made up, voting rethuglican, she’s not sure. I asked her if she might be interested in reading up at the barack site, and she was like a deer in headlights. Could not even imagine what it would be like for her if she voted against her hubby. So, that’s not going to happen. Down the road from that house was a house (was on my list with wrong name) where there daughter, whom I’ve known since she was 10, is off at boot camp. God. Hoped that the mother wasn’t home watching me canvas for Barack, they’d never talk to me again, best case scenario, worst case would be that they would come over to our house & scream their heads off. And what was the deal with the young couple, probably about 30, with a Prius, voting Republican? That didn’t make sense to me.

Anyway, had a depressing day, and that question about patriotic (yes, I know it was rhetorical) set me off after my day of wandering around knocking on doors that have flags out next to them. Nobody here in this neighborhood realizes that Peace is Patriotic too.

Okay, I’m done whining now.

That is not to say that I am not scared out of my mind that Bush gave himself that power AND that we let him, but I think the minute he starts making any real moves toward invoking it, the MSM will be ALL over it and it will no longer be a “conspiracy theory” (thus opening it back up for discussion here!).

MSNBC has Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz because she’s assertive – and HOT. HOTNESS matters. Don’t believe me? Look at the news. Lacey Peterson was in the news for sooooo long not because of the incident, but because her and her husband were hot. Natalee Holloway, missing in Aruba, hot. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, hot. Sarah Palin – hot. That’s it. Ordinary looking folks don’t get that much attention. Ugly ones, even less.

Beauty-sex-attractiveness sells. Debbie is a rising star, but shoot, most folks on MSNBC are easy on the eyes. Look at Ms. Brewster, Norah O’Donnell, Rachel Maddow … others on the network are good to look at. If not, we wouldn’t tune in. Even Desperate Housewives and Sex in the City further drives that point home.

If Palin were a toothless troll as hot as popsicle, we wouldn’t care. However, when you have folks wishing for a Gov. Palin sex tape, then you have a story.

Bottom line – beauty is the best way to sell a product.

I think being patriotic is loving your country enough to criticize it when it’s on the wrong track. It’s enshrined in our Declaration of Independence. As parents, when our kids are on the wrong track, do we just go along to get along? No way. We tell them — because we love them.

@ Sad,
The only place I’ve heard much about all this is on Lou Dobbs. I don’t give him much credit for anything except for stirring up anger about immigration. As for the chips, there has been talk about putting chips in shipping cartons so they can be more easiy tracked and so that vehicles carrying contraband can be more easily IDd. The chips in people stuff sounds way too much like “the mark of the beast.” And since I don’t take the Bible as literal fact, I don’t buy that either.

Up until today, your posts have been rational, but I’d suggest you take a deep breath and just calm down. If Laurie posts Canadian info, AND it seems calm and reasoned and not just highly emotional, then I might get interested. Until then, I’ll chalk it up to an urban legend. Conspiracy theories abound. And when people are worried, they flourish.

I don’t think it’s because of poll numbers. I think it’s because of anti-Palin rallies. CNN reported today that parts of Palin’s speech in Iowa was completely drowned out by students from the University of Iowa Feminist Majority and the University of Iowa Anti-War Alliance who started an anti-war chant.

um, hello

<a href=”http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/18/palins-transparency-proposal-already-exists-in-dc/” article here

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) – Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

OT: McCain knows he has nada without her, and the crowds leaving after Palin speeches proves it. He is tied to her and will ride her hard and put her away wet. Seriously, she lacks substance and is pure fluff – and MSM is finally realizing it. The U.S., though, isn’t too smart and still thinks she’s all that.

Thanks, Redwood Man. I also saw that picture online with a bit of searching.

I don’t know which was more alarmist — that movie, or the comments on the page.😉

Personally, I think they moved Palin out of CA for one of two reasons: 1) the numbers — it’s sort of a waste of time to try and campaign here when you’ve got so many other states that are so much closer. Or 2) They didn’t want her appearing on her own. I saw a clip of her in a diner yesterday talking about the AIG bailout and it was literally just nonsensical. It was like she googled “economics” and strung together a complicated-sounding sentence using the words that came up.

The only two logical possibilities for this late-cancel of two huge events are:

I agree. Over the past few days, there has been a noticeable increase in blank posting of links, just blind gathering of stories. Information is good. But in practice, lately the threads are functioning as a sort of dumping grounds for anything, and it’s done, as NMJ notes, with little more than ‘check this out’, or for humor, or sarcasm. All I’m saying is that there appears to me to be less emphasis on sorting, investigating, thinking, or however you want to put it. I’d say gathering stories obviously has a place, as does humor, etc., and this isn’t really for me to say. It’s not my blog and freedom of thought is a good thing. However, I’d bet that it results in many, if not most, readers facing a string of posts which effectively are distractions, repetitions, and sometimes a sort of “feel good” or “feel bad” reaction group. Expression is healthy, of course, and what am I to say on this except to ask, “Is this about the election or is this about persons of like mind communicating in lockstep?”, “Facts or therapy?”

But keep the haiku.

Ignoring a legislative subpoena is punishable by a fine up to $500 and up to six months in jail under Alaska law. But courts are reluctant to intervene in legislative matters and the full Legislature must be in session to bring contempt charges, Wielechowski said. The Legislature is not scheduled to convene until January.

When Stapleton called his home, said Moore, she reached Moore’s wife, and immediately told her: “Your husband just called two Hoyas liars.” Stapleton, O’Callaghan, and Moore’s wife all attended Georgetown University, whose mascot is the Hoyas.

Moore added that Stapleton had also called the news director of KTUU to complain.

Asked whether he and Stapleton really remained friends, Moore allowed: “It hasn’t been too friendly this week.”

Dee, I am a native Texan and my husband says the only time my accent comes out is when I am pissed off or drunk which in some parts of the world is the same thing… anyway, that accent that he affects is not a gen-u-ine Texas accent. I’ll grant you that Molly Ivins and Ann Richards had a really heavy Texas accent, but if you listened to them they said “you” “to” and well, ok ya’ll. They were what we called regular Texas Good Ole Girls — hell, Laura sounds like one. Fact is, most Texans have a bit of a drawl, but not really much of one. And most educated Texans know that “ya’ll” means a group of ya’ll and don’t use it to refer to a single person. Finally, the only “Texan” I know of that says “nucular” is GeeDub.

I just use the mute button.

Upshot, I hate the sound of his voice.

Did Palin take a pay cut as mayor? AKM could prollie tell us more, but TPM has been on this. Palin has mentioned several times in speeches that she took a paycut as mayor of Wassila. Apparently, as a council member, Palin voted to reduce the mayoral salary by 10%, then approved the motion when she became Mayor. However, it doesn’t see like the pay cut ever took effect. TPM couldn’t dig anything up on it and McCain’s camp has not responded with data to back up the claim. In fact, though she’s never mentioned it, her salary increased from $61K to $68K just after she went into office. This, along with the new “mayor mobile” for $24K, and the administrator they had to hire…..

I agree with you in part, but one of the things that has happened throughout the past 3 weeks is that the comments on this blog have been both facts and therapy. I agree that when I came back here tonight after living my life for four hours there were 360 comments — there were under 75 when I left making the idea of sorting through 300 or so comments for nuggets of wisdom is daunting and results in a lot of skimming. That said, there have been a lot of times when the facts have been so depressing that one or more participants have been bummed and someone manages to pick up the bummed ones and stuff gets going again. I think we fought the battle of rumor and innuendo early on when there were far fewer posters and now, with the huge number of readers/comments, it is a little harder. We just need to continue doing what we’ve been doing and when someone puts up a rumor or a repeat, point it out. That said, I hope it will be better when the new and improved Mudflats comes to life. My dream: a better search function.

Well, maybe we should give her a break on the verbiage. She’s a Washington outsider, ya know!

On a serious note (watching Rachel Maddow now) there really seems to be a theme here with the McCain campaign. Their version of running themselves into the ground seem to consistently be trying to go overboard in correcting mistakes and consequently, bringing more attention to them. This just came up with the Spain incident and Olbermann mentioned this in regard to Palin’s foreign policy experience. (Obviously, there are many other examples.) Their overkill is killing them!

Sorry if this has already been posted – I couldn’t resist – it says so much about Palin and McCAIN!

The Palin Doctrine: You Pay for Your Rape Kit, I’ll Pay for My Tanning Bed

Well, maybe Palin isn’t an expert on the current president’s doctrine, but, as her hero Virginia Woolf would have it, the governator has a doctrine of one’s own, the Palin Doctrine, which strikes a balance between governmental largess and governmental neglect. Under said doctrine, for example, the government will pay for basic necessities such as installing a tanning bed in the Governor’s mansion. We all know a depressed Governor makes a depressed state, and nothing gets rid of Seasonal Anxiety Disorder better than a fake tan. So Palin was acting with the economic and emotional well-being of Alaska in mind, when she had a tanning bed installed in her house. As the women of Wasilla know, however, the Palin doctrine doesn’t rejects government hand-outs such as rape kits. During Palin’s mayoralty, women were stuck with the tab for their forensic exams, which range from $300 to $1,200.

AnneinWA,
I think she was against paying for the rape kits because (and I’m not sure about this) a high-dosage birth control pill that prevents the implantation of a fertilized ovum is, in her view, causing an abortion.
So all those who say she is against abortion even in the case of rape or incest are understating her position. She is against abortion caused by a birth control pill.

Troopergate is relevant if for no other reason that its resolve will indicate ‘what is allowable and accepted practice of elected officials’ and how that has evolved or regressed (i.e., tolerance levels and all that). Does it get followed-through or lost in a shuffle? Will Alaskans (and others) increase their protests, or fade? Will media move on to things? How will the push back, if that indeed occurs, be rationalized? The legal maneuvering might not be a new tactic, but the degree and scope and perhaps the end result may enter new territory.

Ralph Munro, the Thurston County champion for the Republican ticket, called to say there was a shake-up in the schedule that won’t allow Palin to attend the $1,000-a-head fundraiser at a Hunts Point home, near Bellevue, on Sept. 24. He said he understood a few rallies had to be changed around.

“We’re hoping to reschedule. The event will still take place. We are hopeful she’ll be replaced by Cindy McCain, John McCain’s wife,’’ Munro said.

@Nan, my problem is her grammar, not her accent. I prefer the people who represent our country and the people in it to do so in a grammatically correct and articulate way. O.K., what is the leading theory for what is going on with these cancelled appearances? They COULDN’T be getting rid of her! It would fry McCain’s chances in November.

It is clear that the Wall Street wing of the Republican party and others (Rove, Lugar, possibly Powell) are not too pleased with the choice of Palin. Could they really be pressuring McCain?

The other thing is that she has been shamelessly upstaging him and (even more) Cindy at every opportunity (today in Iowa it was the “Palin and McCain administration”). People have been commenting on that since the last day of the Republican convention, when Palin stayed on stage after McCain had exited. The word here abouts and it could just be a rumor, but some folks that seem to know think she is having trouble with the crowds already. Heck the some who I assumed where supporting her are already tired of trying to stick to the party line about her, because of her/his threats to fire all the repubs. That took the cake with the local Repubs, now they don’t know if they want to be on the same ticket with her/him.

The way he “gaffes” and is totally unable at times to answer what would be simple and straightforward questions is clinically typical of someone sliding into dementia. Today’s situation with Spain was a classic example. It used to be an occasional thing, but now we are seeing it multiple times a day when they let him speak in public. My guess is that the stresses of the campaign are increasing his symptoms and making it difficult for his handlers to keep him on message and sounding coherent. I’m betting his temper-tantrums are more frequent too. Oh, to be a fly on the wall behind those closed doors. These two are scary prospective candidates for a country with as much trouble as we have right now. We need leaders who aren’t bogged down with their own personal baggage.

I love this site and the up-close glimpse it gives me into the other state afflicted with a candidate on this embarrassment of a ticket. Thought I would de-lurk to add my professional opinion since some other posters have been speculating about the dementia angle.

I think we all should give a big pause in honor of these Alaskan folks that may have saved America’s “bacon”. I thank you, AKM and others who were willing to be so brave and willing to speak out. I thank you!!!!

And yes, today’s words of McCain’s, on Spain, etc. do show some kind of HUGE disconnect. Totally frightening!!!

Or….maybe mama needs to plan Bristols upcoming marriage due to her “pregnancy”. WHICH IS IT GOING TO BE SARAH???? Your public awaits your next move.

You said, “Intrigued — you’re entitled to your views, and I’m entitled to mine. Please don’t call an Obama vote “insane.” There are a lot of people on here rooting for him to win.”

I agree with you, Sarah in CA.

Intrigued, while I will defend your right to have the view you have, I will never agree with it. You know as well as all of us here that one of two parties will win the presidency in less than fifty days from now. Sarah in CA and I, and obviously most, if not all here, have chosen to support Barack Obama and Joe Biden to lead this country for at least the next four years.

Our views on the possibility of your doom and gloom coming true not with standing, we know, that in the short run, that a third party vote will get us no where at this time.

We are choosing our battles carefully, one at a time. Right now, our battle is making sure that our country doesn’t suffer four more years of what we have lived through for the last eight.

“Deb, That is the old Hegelian dialectic, and I don’t fall for that anymore. You are framing it as though there are two extreme choices — globalist or isolationist. There is an entire MIDDLE GROUND that is being ignored.

Also, “globalist” in the context of the NAU is a negative, not a positive. The globalist literature clearly states that they want NO SOVEREIGN NATIONS and a one-world government as their end goal.

I strongly suggest that you watch the Zeitgiest movie that Redwoodman has so kindly linked to. It has some good info in there, although the timelines have been pushed back many times.”

Having been around for 65 years. I have seen a few flashes in the pan, and one hit wonders. The Palin speech at the convention was great, I mean that woman was off the charts. But the next day that plain she eluded to having sold on eBay, and the bridge to nowhere all came crashing down. I mean it all was a flimflam to make one think one thing, when it was all quite different. In the days that have passed, I find Palin does not field question from reporters. And now Troopergate with it whiteness refusing to testify. It sounds as if she has her clones all lined. She now has her very own good old boy net work . I see a great danger in this Palin, she can lead. But she’s one of those few leader that takes you down the road, and when you look, your in a blind alley and your leader is gone.

Off Topic:

I don’t get to post here often, but I read the comments everyday, and I just wanted to pipe in with some info on RFID chips. I have been researching this topic since 2004, when the FDA approved the use of the chip in humans:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6237364/

If you’d like more info, the wiki is actually pretty accurate, detailed, and well-sourced for the most part. Also, if you would like to go to the source, you can explore the Verichip website (Verichip if the name of the RFID chip that is implantable in humans in the US, though if you google RFID, you will find several manufacturers of various types of RFID chips). They used it for FEMA operations during Katrina, and offer the implantation service on their site. They also use non-implantable chips for tracking newborn babies at hospitals and tracking older people).

http://www.verichipcorp.com/

And here’s a blogger’s take on the subject:

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20041013-4305.html

And yes, RFID chips are now in all US passports

For those who are interested, I hope these links lead you to some more information regarding RFID chips. I must admit, I was a little disappointed to hear some people dismiss this information as “conspiracy theories” (a term often used to dismiss opinions of dissent), when this information is widely available. And while I understand some people may have concerns that the MSM is reading this blog–to be fair, the conversation did start around Palin’s canceled appointments. Discourse is a wonderful way to obtain new information, even if it may seem irrelevant; however, this is not my blog. So, I will end my merry rant with an Audre Lorde quotation that has been running through my head lately: “Your silence will not protect you.”

Thanks so much, AKM for this wonderful blog and community you have created!

Palin’s California fundraisers have been rescheduled for Ocrober 4-5… right after the debate. The consensus is she’s being taken off the trail to have foreign policy drill-baby-drilled into her head in prep for the debate.

Has anyone seen Biden? Has he been hidden? Perhaps he’s busy preparing for his big debate against Governor Sarah Palin? Or, perhaps he is busy exercising his patriotism by paying higher taxes? No, he’s really been hanging out with his left-wing bud, Charlie Rangel – another winner.

It would seem that the anointed one, Lord Obama, has kept mister “open mouth and insert foot” quietly tucked away somewhere. Probably a good thing for them – it’s enough that people think someone on the ticket has experience, irrespective of whether or not he is seen.

Check out http://zazzle.com/politix for some political pictures! Fun stuff.

Like you said, she might challenge someone to play ‘stump the candidate’.
We saw the other day how well THAT worked out.
If she talks about an issue that has not been ingrained into her brain, she might say something McShame doesn’t like.

RCP30 – How old are you? If you read my post, she’s coming here to rake in some bucks – that’s what a FUNDRAISER is. Unfortunately, California has its share of wingnut freaks, so Ms. Sarah’s coming here ho’ing for their cash. Make no mistake, most of us don’t want her here, or her shadow for that matter. She only owes us what she owes the rest of the Country… the truth about what she did in office and the methods she employed doing them. Doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult for someone who espouses transparency in government.

McCain campaigns about everything he has always done for his country and the commitments he has made and suffered but this time people see his choice was not for the country but just to pick up votes and now its back firing. Double standards do not always wash with the public.

Anyways, from what I understand, this The Villages is an entrenched GOP area and it’s not clear from what I’ve read how “public” this appearance is. Pity I’m too far away in Broward County, in which Palin won’t dare to set foot I’ll betcha, to check this out on Sunday. Hopefully there are some intrepid brethren and sistren out there who will attend, record, and report.

I can’t believe some of the stuff I’m reading on the comments of some of these articles. Maybe y’all can post a few zingers on the message board.

Okay Mudflats..received this email from a Democratic “on the fence” staff member…time will tell…enjoy!

On or about October 5th, Senator Biden will excuse himself from the
> ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This
> is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2.
>
> There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info.
> Generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it out there
> to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible.
>
> However, at this point, with this inside info from the DNC, it looks like
> this Obama strategy will be a go.

The truth or more Obama manipulations?
Like today in Obama’s speech to the nation..cough..cough..he hasn’t even been elected yet…today members of the KKK against Obama protested…but were they really the KKK? or where they there as plants to stir up votes?

“There is scarcely a king, or would-be-king, in a hundred who would not, if he could, follow the example of Pharaoh, get first all the people’s money, then all their lands, and then make them and all their children slaves forever.”
Thomas Jefferson

Sound familiar..sounds like Obama’s “globalization” the “global economic plan.”

To all who are interested about the chip in the new passports—
I just renewed my passport. On the NEW one–on the inside of the back cover has this message:
This document contains sensitive “ELECTRONICS”
For best performance, do not bend, perforate or expose to extreme temperatures.
Also has a picture of a satellite hovering over the planet earth. It corresponds with what I see on the video clip–that one blogger has posted.(Texas I think)
I can add to his comment: SCARED in IOWA

22 09 2008

Hi Lacy Lady..here are a few sites about the passport:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/eppt/eppt_2788.html
“What is an Electronic Passport?
An Electronic Passport is the same as a traditional passport with the addition of a small integrated circuit (or “chip”) embedded in the back cover. The chip stores: The same data visually displayed on the data page of the passport;
A biometric identifier in the form of a digital image of the passport photograph, which will facilitate the use of face recognition technology at ports-of-entry; The unique chip identification number; and A digital signature to protect the stored data from alteration.”

We can thank Senators like Obama for this:
U.S. passport with an embedded chip containing personal data will be issued, amid concerns about privacy and its vulnerability to hacking.
State Department says it has chosen the chip technology in the e-passports as part of an effort to better secure U.S. borders by making passports harder to forge. Congress also passed an act requiring countries in the U.S. visa-waiver program to issue passports with such chips. The Department of Homeland Security has run trials at various airports, while State Department personnel have also tested the new passport. The State Department says the chip can only be read by a scanner within a three to four inch distance. Joerg Borchert of Infineon Technologies North America Corp., which supplies the State Department with chips. It’s all tied to Homeland Security which is FISA, which is:
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
On June 20, the House passed H.R. 6304, an unconstitutional surveillance bill that sanctions warrantless wiretapping and hands immunity to telecommunications companies for their role in domestic spying.
Talking Points on the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 on 7/1/2008.
The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 is an unconstitutional bill that would significantly modify the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It grants sweeping new monitoring powers to the government with little court oversight, and ensures the dismissal of all pending cases against telecommunication companies. The FISA Amendments Act was passed by the House of Representatives in June. The Senate was expected to vote on the legislation last July 8. Senators were urged to vote against this
unconstitutional bill.
The FISA Amendments Act:
*Gives the president broad new powers to spy on innocent Americans’ phone calls and emails – even when they have no connection to terrorism. It legalizes mass, untargeted and unwarranted spying on our international phone calls and emails.
*Restricts judicial oversight of the surveillance program. The FISA court will not know who, what or where will actually be monitored, and the government can continue a spying program even after it has been denied by the court.
*Provides retroactive immunity to the telecommunications companies for their role in the president’s domestic spying program. The test in the bill is not whether government certifications sent to the companies were actually legal – only whether they were issued.
*U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 110th Congress – 2nd Session as compiled through Senate LIS by the Senate Bill Clerk under the direction of the Secretary of the Senate
