ACORN Speaks!

29 10 2008

If you believed John McCain and the Republican Party, you’d think that ACORN is a subversive, sinister organization specifically designed to allow Mickey Mouse (whom they have registered to vote) to systematically tear apart “the fabric of our Democracy”, strand by strand….

Nevermind that anyone who actually went to vote while representing themselves as Mickey Mouse would doubtless get caught, and also be committing a felony.  I mean, come on….what’s a felony these days?  Look at Ted Stevens!  He’s got seven and he’s still running for the United States Senate with the blessing and support of the Alaska Republican Party!

Also, the GOP would like you to please pay no attention to the fact that John McCain himself was the keynote speaker at a 2006 rally cosponsored by ACORN. And don’t listen when he looks at the crowd of people wearing red ACORN t-shirts, “What makes America special is what’s in this room tonight.” That would just confuse you, dear voter.

Today, ACORN will be releasing its first TV ad, just so you can see how scary they are, and look at all their heinous democracy-fabric-ripping.

This week, ACORN will be on the offense in the media, for a change. With less than a week left until Election Day, they will try to dirve the media’s focus to protecting people’s right to vote, and exposing real cases of GOP voter suppression, while pushing forward with historic “Get Out the Vote” efforts. Voter fraud is a red herring. Voter suppression is a real threat.

I am hoping against hope that Obama will take his 30 minutes and blow all the McPain crap out of the water! McC’s financial support of the Palestinian guy; his dumping the 1st wife for adulterous Cindy; his ACORN ties as mentioned above; JTP being planted; his VP pick being as corrupt as Stevens. All BO really needs to do is compile “the best of Mudflats” – this site has been right on target the entire time – I’m soooo proud to be associated with all the Mudpuppies – even if only virtually!

McGrumpy’s ideology he gets from JFK..

Do onto others as they would do onto you, no matter how much you’re lying and having done the same things or worse you accuse the others of doing..

There is no rock mcgrumpy won’t turn to find dirt on obama. My guess is if he could blame his plane being shot down in Nam, he’d do it.

The difference between the two.. One is snide, snarky, rude, condescending, constant liar, moronic, sophomoric, deceitful, angry, nasty, evil.

The other is Barack Obama. Class.

Regardless of how ACORN presents themselves, they are under investigation in a number of states, including pennsyltucky. There is a real issue about whether they flagged suspicious voter registration forms for the regulators prior to submitting same.

Frankly, there are several areas in which ACORN needs to change their way of doing business.

Nevertheless, to broadbrush Obama with the brush of fraud because he once represented ACORN is just plain ludicrous and as fraudulent as the act of putting Mickey Mouse onto the voter applications. Obama has had nothing to do with any of these applications.

Go Acorn! I’m so glad to hear that Acorn is getting the truth out there. The stories I’m hearing about voter suppression are scary. Everyone deserves to have their vote counted on election day without fear. This is America – not some third world puppet dictatorship/fraud of a democracy. The Repubs just seem to me like a party that has to cheat, lie and steal their way to victory. No wonder SP is so popular with their base.

Marty (VA) Hussein 10 Point Lead..:)

Wrangler.. i agree, it seems that the procedural issues surrounding elections for the past 2 cycles involved how the repugs manipulate the process.

i don’t think there’s ever been any instance of vote fraud brought up by dems.

Clearly, the Repugs have adopted a form of Nazism, where they suppress, lie, cheat, mislead and cause general fear and confusion to prevent people from voting. This is not what America is supposed to be about, but mcgrumpy is so insanely obsessed with winning, he doesn’t care what he has to do to win, even if it means cheating.

This may be a bit off topic.

The link below is to a column written about Palin’s lies. Her lies have struck me from the beginning, because even when she is outed (bridge to nowhere, plane sold on ebay, etc.), she continues to lie. And, she lies about things for which there is no obvious reason for her to lie – like the subject of this column, telling her children about running for VP.

Wouldn’t you know it. A new article while I was typing the copied below to the other thread. Noticed that some repost so here, for your enjoyment is what I posted before:

————————————————————-

Went to Michele Obama’s rally at Centennial Hall in Colorado Springs yesterday. I live in the downtown area, beautiful old Victorian homes, many parks, and just 5 minutes away by car.

Started out at 4:00 PM (scheduled for 4:30) Walked with a friend, stopped for my free Taco and a Pepsi at Taco Bell (someone hit a home run in the series and that was their promo), and continued a few blocks to the Hall. First time ever at one of these events.

Boy! A LOT of people. The line stretched across the street from the Hall and around the block (4 of ‘em) back to the beginning and then across to the other steeet. The Hall holds 2500.

Got in line and at about 5:00 PM found myself just about to enter the Hall when they reached capacity and the overflow went to a parking lot where they had set up mics. Around 5:30 PM Michele came out to shake hands with the overflow group and say a few words before entering the Hall for her speech.

What did this say to me? Many good things about the organizational efforts and the volunteering efforts. The differences, that are FUNDAMENTAL between these two campaigns, spoke volumes.

There were the usual protesters, in small numbers, and about 4 McCain supporters. (Oh, so sad) There was a wonderful feeling of camaraderie, so many different people. Growing up and living in Hollywood, CA I would not have made this comment, it’s a given that there is a mix there. Here in beautiful CO the mix is not so prevalent.

The volunteers were up and down the line soliciting help and I am waiting for them to call me, said I would help with phones to Obama supporters getting the vote out in these last few days.

Also, putting the good white light out and over Barrack.

reposted from last thread…
I think the repugs have the “chicken little mentality” THE SKY IS Falling! Part in respect to the buzzwords the repugs been throwing around, dangerous, socialist, ACORN, and because of their extreme fundy right wing, whack-jobbiness, religious BS ie “Rapture” “End times” and the fact that this is Historical, a Black (half white) man leading the country out of the abyss! Their small minds cannot grasp “change” so they run and scream the “sky is falling”
I think many of them are going to feel very folish come Nov. 5 when the sky doesn’t fall. And I am also hoping something major will surface about Grifter Bible spice, and McLame. And also as another Mudpuppy said above, the ones that are not such whack jobs, are outright “greedy” and only out for themselves. If anyone has seen the movie “Sicko” Micheal Moore asked many people in EU/FR who were making more $ if they minded paying more taxes(for the universal health care) and all of them felt obliged even happy to help their fellow man! Such a change from the greedy idiots here…”I’ve worked hard for what I have and don’t want to share it…”
Very un-evolved mentally/emotionally,spiritually.
These are the people that stand around and watch as someone is beat up or killed…and do nothing…:(
And I also am puzzled how they can be “right to life” yet “pro-war” “pro-bombing”abortion clinics? And since when is abortion a platform to run a campaign on? It should be a personal issue for every woman to decide not a mandate yes or no. Churches need to stay out of politics…period!
I am so glad not all of the people of the US like this… only a small percent. :(

Had a loooooong conversation with my DSS last night about the degree to which both sides are exhibiting fear. While I truly believe that our fear (of another stolen election, the prospect of SP becoming VP and even POTUS, etc.) is rational fear while the fear of the “other” on their side is irrational, could it be that they view their fear as rational and ours as irrational? We feel safe here on the Flats to give voice to our fears, but once the election is over, our nation has a lot of healing to do to become “one United States of America” again. And we who share Barack’s vision will need to be the footsoldiers in that quest. He’s going to have a lot to handle. The quest to heal the divisions will of necessity be left to us.

I invite you to read some of DSS’s blog at http://intelligentbydesign.wordpress.com and also to talk me (and him) down about how we might be able to open a dialog with those on the other side. They are so fearful in their hate and bigotry.

RF11.. i disagree, THIS YEAR. I think college kids are incredibly well informed and see what we see and that it’s essential everyone votes.

Truthfully, when Gore and Kerry ran, i had no interest in following the elections. When the Bush family defrauded America and stole the election, then Swiftboat caused Kerry to fail, I kind of lost faith in the process. But they were at best marginal candidates who had no ability to inspire people or make us want to get involved.

This year, it’s very different. EVERYONE wants to help, get out and help, so many make donations, and the passion is there and this year, i think we’ll find huge turnouts on both sides. The Repugs want to win, or get it so close it ends up in court to decide. They can use their vote fraud machine and the Surpremes to steal the election if it’s close. We have to vote and make sure the results are just so overwhelming, there can be bo argument about a questionable votes.

What scares me is the vote distraction techniques to prevent people to vote, or in rural areas that are hard to get around making the polls so far from areas that many can’t vote due to obstacles. My feeling is in Dem controlled states, they make it as fair and easy as possible to vote. Sadly, the same isn’t true in GOP states.

But this year, the numbers will be huge. And I am confident all the McGrumpy stream of lies will end in failure.

I’m getting nervous as the clock ticks down. I’d like to see a strong push back against all the socialist b.s. Keith Olberman’s campaign comment last night was great and tonight’s rally with Bill Clinton would be the perfect venue to reveal Palin’s very own socialist agenda.

Every word that Bill says will be covered over and over by the media. What better way to hammer this in.

As one who lives on the other end of the same valley, one of the problems we’re up against is that so much of the other side tuly believes the solution is for the churches to be even more involved in politics. Their followers deny that there should be a separation. They belive that God has everything to do with politics and that the framers just knew that we wouldn’t survive long as a nation without being governed by “godly principles.”

I’ve been struck by the fear that seems to motivate them. I’m wondering if part of the deal is that their experience is one of being talked to, not listened to. I don’t know if I could stand to listen to the hatred and bigotry part, and every fiber in my being wants to try to talk them down and tell them how wrong they are. But I keep thinking about a book I read about Gandhi’s approach to non-violent conflict resolution — find the common ground first, that part of the other person’s truth that you share, and build on that. I do know that when I’ve tried it, it works. It’s part of what Steve Covey talks about in his 7 Habits, albeit expressed differently.

Marty, I agree with you that Obama has inspired young people and people of all ages who have not been likely to vote in the past.

I am savoring every moment of this week, with the polls clearly in our direction, but I still worry that some first time voters will not be as motivated to go out and vote if they think Obama has won.

I don’t worry about young people so much, because I think Obama himself and the historic nature of this election, are motivating for them. It’s really other first time voters, particularly adults who have not voted in the past, about whom I worry the most. The Obama ground game should take care of them, thankfully.

I’m trying to stay calm, but I will continue to worry until the election results are final. I’m still shellshocked from what happened in FL in 2000.

McCain’s camp is now making an issue of the LA Times having a tape of Obama and Khalidi. See, I’m just nervous. As Rachel would say, “Talk me down!”

Good morning muddies…

OK folks the Repugs have tried to convince you that ACORN is everything evil.

I read this comment above “they are under investigation in a number of states, including pennsyltucky”.

It should read “”they are under investigation BECAUSE OF POWERFUL REPUBLICANS in a number of states, including pennsyltucky”

Repugs fired US Attorneys for NOT pursuing their illegitimate VOTER FRAUD cases just like the ones they started again this year.

From McClatchy, Washington on July 1, 2007
WASHINGTON — A New Mexico lawyer who pressed to oust U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was an officer of a nonprofit group that aided Republican candidates in 2006 by pushing for tougher voter identification laws.

Iglesias, who was one of nine U.S. attorneys the administration fired last year, said that Albuquerque lawyer Patrick Rogers pressured him several times to bring voter fraud prosecutions where little evidence existed. Iglesias believes that he was fired in part because he failed to pursue such cases.

- – – – -
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW SCUM REPUGS DISENFRANCISE LOW INCOME CITY FOLK FROM VOTING. THEY ARE DOING IT AGAIN, NOTHING NEW.

16 years ago, BARACK represented ACORN in a VOTER RIGHTS CASE AS AN ATTORNEY (Chicago Sun-Times, 8/11/92) many lawyers did.

Thank you Barack for standing up AGAINST a repug governor and his machine back in 1992 !!! Oh and he was probably paid $15. in attorney fee’s if that.

Yes, that IS part of the problem. I wish I had copied the very excellent article that I read about a month ago in the Chronicle of Higher Education about how the right wing contingent truly feels that the left “doesn’t get it.” What’s so striking is that a lot of fears, on both sides, are rational. What the author doesn’t address, though, is how some of the rightwingers use that rational fear to whip up a frenzy or really stupid and irrational fear that is in no way productive. If I can track down that article, I will. Could take a while, though.

I know we are all concerned about how the election will play out, but if this is any indication, I think we should take heart. I live in N. Arizona and have been working for the Obama campaign. The McCain presence is practically nil here. I have experienced almost no negative reaction when I called about Obama. I am almost positive this part of AZ will go for Obama and also elect a Democratic congressperson. Reports are that the McCain presence in other parts of the state is very limited, also.

This doesn’t mean that AZ will go Democratic, simply because there are so many old folks in Sun City and Phoenix who are fearful of something different, but I think it will be a whole lot closer than any one would have guessed.

What does it say about a candidate that can barely carry his own state?

have to add that the article about SP bashing Obama’s comments about the SCOTUS in 2001 only showed me his intelligent and thoughtful reflections about the role of the court and makes me wonder if she realizes that nobody gets to “rewrite” the Constitution? That’s not the only thing ACORN is now doing. In NM, they’re suing the state GOP party for voter intimidation. Those GOP’ers actually had people showing up at the homes of voters (hispanic) and scaring the crap out of them. Apparently, 92 latino voters registered through ACORN had their records looked into and released to the press by the GOP in that state in attempts at voter intimidation.

Perhaps the greatest contributuion that Obama/Biden will make to the future of America is that they motivated America’s youth to go out and vote.

Young people will bear a disproportionate portion of the burden left to America by George W Bush:

They have been killed and maimed in Bush’s forays into Iraq and Afghanistan

They have been saddled with huge, crushing college costs

They have been priced out of so much of the housing market

They will be saddled with paying for the future bailout costs tied into the meltdown of the housing market…which they neither caused nor benefitted from.

They will have to support the retirees who have had their retirement savings wiped out.

They will inherit America’s debt, and will be paying for it until they, themselves, shuffle off this mortal coil.

Halcrow, great post! Ed Rollins wrote a column about the Bush/Rove ambitions:

An excerpt:
“The biggest shadow of course is that of President Bush. Our 43rd president’s goal in life was to surpass his father, 41, whom he admired but felt was weak.

Guided by his political guru, Karl Rove, it was Bush II’s ambition to make the Republican Party the majority party for decades to come. He and Karl wanted to create a political realignment that would marginalize Democrats for at least a generation and maybe more.

Not satisfied to change only American politics, Bush and his neo-con advisers, led by Dick Cheney, wanted to use American military might to spread democracy to places that had been led only by tribal councils and ruthless dictators.

If Bush had accomplished these goals, he truly would have been a historic president much like his newfound hero Harry Truman. But his failures were unimaginable. W will go down in history, all right.”

US groups warn of moves to deny Obama victory

CBS News reported this week that there is so far no indication of widespread voter suppression in states where balloting is permitted to take place weeks in advance of Election Day. Based on surveys it conducted in 17 of those states, the US television network found that charges of vote fraud or vote suppression “are far more rhetoric than reality.”

Some voting-rights activists have also warned that the machines used to count ballots at thousands of polling places are vulnerable to “hacking.” Computer experts could rig these machines to record inaccurate vote totals, these monitors say.

Even if broadly conducted and highly effectively, vote suppression and hacking of voting machines would probably not alter the outcome of this year’s presidential election. Nearly all reputable polls show Senator Obama with a substantial lead that may be impossible to erase through such tactics.

Republican Voter Suppression efforts freak me out like no tomorrow. That is why I am calling in sick on Election Day to volunteer my 14 hours as a poll worker. There’s an interesting link between Perot and McLame. While McLame was in Vietnam, his first wife, Carol, was severely and permanently injured in a car accident. She didn’t want to burden McLame, so she didn’t send him word of her accident. However, she had medical complications and financial hardships as a result.

I’ve read that Perot paid over $100,000 in medical bills for Carol McCain.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1024927/The-wife-John-McCain-callously-left-behind.html

“When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons
had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self.

H. Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, future presidential candidate and advocate of prisoners of war, paid for her medical care.”

Today in NC, Obama appealed to Independents like me in the most direct way imaginable. He took the absurd and turned the absurd on its head and made it comical.

@Grammy,
Several weeks ago they was a story on HuffPO ( I think) about Carol McCain. She is a lovely lady and was so loyal while he was a POW.
Also the first story of the Rolling Stone articles about McWeasel had a lot to say about how he treated her when he came back.
And Yes, they were very close to Ron and Nancy. When he dumped Carol for the “rich one” Nancy froze him out. He was never invited back to the White House.
I had to laugh when on the Debate he mentioned Nancy after she had been injured after falling…she hates him. Good ‘Ole McWeasel…never one to miss a trick.

“Palin Target of New Ethics Complaint”

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/28/cbsnews_investigates/main4554071.shtml

“Alaska Governor and Republican Vice President hopeful Sarah Palin may be facing another round of scrutiny, this time for charging the state for her children to travel with her while conducing official state business.

CBS News has obtained a copy of the complaint that Frank Gwartney, a retired lineman in Anchorage filed last Friday, with Alaska’s Attorney General, Talis Colber in Juneau. “Palin ran on the platform of ethics, transparency and anti-corruption. I’m tired of the hypocrisy that exists in Government and people need to know the truth,” said Gwartney.

The complaint against Governor Palin, alleges Misuse of Official Position: “Gov. Palin attempted to and in fact did use her official position for personal gain by securing unwarranted benefits for her daughters…” All the allegations contained in the complaint are related to state reimbursed travel.”

Wrangler Tractor in VA (07:31:50) :

I hate her! Please Alaska, I’m sorry, but take her back.

**************

I don’t write often, but I read almost everything here on Mudflats, and I’m glad for the good info and thoughtful reflection. It has been a HUGE part of my life since you-know-when, and I appreciate it more than I can say! It’s kept me sane as well as in-the-know, and it’s also kind of made me less sane, as addictions will often do.

I’d like those of you who do read others’ comments to consider the statement above and think just for a second about it and how it may be perceived by us Alaskans. I hear this sentiment several times on every thread, and every time I consider – fairly seriously -either writing to mention it, or finding an information source that doesn’t use this mantra. But I love Mudflats, so I just grin and bear it.

But it must be too close to the election, and today I’m just not up for ignoring it. It isn’t we in Alaska who will be taking her back. YOU may send her back, and that’s the two-edged sword. WE didn’t send her to you, and WE don’t have the power to take her back. And we don’t want her. If you’ve been reading this blog as long and as thoroughly as I have for these past – what has it been? YEARS??! – you know that there are MANY MANY MANY of us who didn’t even want her in the first place, and now even less! We’ll be stuck with her again, Heaven willing, after Tuesday, but I ALWAYS feel, when people say this, “please take her back,” as if you think we have had any more say in this thing than you have! Or we will have any more say about defeating her, and thus saddling ourselves, again, with her oppressive lying self. Or that we WANT her!

We’ve been weathering the cold, our angry neighbors, our own jobs and families, our personal demons, and putting our time and reputations and friendships on the line to do what we can to get the word out about who she is and what she’s done and who WE are voting for, just like everyone else on this blog and elsewhere around the world! In the process of this election we have been as activated as we have ever been in trying to get involved and get the truth out. We did not send her to you, and we cannot get her to come back. And we don’t want her back. So, “I’m sorry,” but please stop telling us to take her back. And that’s in quotes, because I’m not sorry to ask you to stop telling us to take her back. The apology just isn’t working. Maybe if we could all try to speak a little more plainly, and say what is true, with some thought behind it when it comes to things that matter, we wouldn’t be in such a sorrowful, painful and harrowing position in our nation or in our world. (This request is the size of a gnat to the elephant of the problem, but I’m just sayin…)

That isn’t YOUR fault, Wrangler Tractor, and I don’t mean this for YOU. It’s just a “joke” that’s not funny to me, because I like the feeling that we’re all working together to keep her out of the white house, and it isn’t our fault, or yours, that she’s where she is right now. There’s nothing “in the water” or anything else that makes it so we’re cursed with the people now splattered all over the world’s news for all manner of disgusting human frailties. I know this isn’t worth the time it’s taken for you to read it, if you have, but I somehow felt the need to let you know how these kinds of negative references to Alaska effect one Alaskan who’s doing her best.

I AM really sorry for ranting!

There are people of good will everywhere, despite what we see and hear coming from the crowds who attend McCain and Palin’s rallies.

@ Goalie
My 87 yo MIL lives in SCW. She’s a life-long Dem. We’ve been talking to her gently for months, and all she can say is that Barack lacks experience. She was a HRC supporter. We know that to be a way for her to deny the real reasons. I love her dearly, but she is who she is. Last we knew she wasn’t going to vote for McCain. She thinks he hasn’t done enough for AZ — i.e., not brought enough pork home. LOL. So she says she just won’t vote for Pres. We tried again post-Palin nod, but it was pretty apparent she didn’t want to discuss. So we’re hoping for half a loaf — better than a vote for McCain!

A beloved Tlingit elder in our rural community passed away this weekend. Paul Wilson, Kadashan, embodied love, kindness, and compassion. He practiced his cultural traditions and always put his wife and family first.

Paul was a member of our Obama family. He came to the caucus on a cold, snowy evening last winter where with 77 folks (100 total) cast his primary vote for Obama and stated with a bit of awe. “All these people for Obama, I can’t believe it.”

There is a photo of Paul (that he gave me permission to post) illustrating the “Rural Alaskans for Obama” group on the my.barackobama.com site. In the photo, Paul is in his backyard stringing hooligan for the smokehouse. Hooligan (eulachon) are small smelt-like fish rich in healthy oil that return to many Alaskan rivers from their mostly ocean life for a few days each spring to renew their life cycles.

I chatted with Paul on the street just a week ago or so. He was still an Obama supporter, though his family and the local tribal community in not united in this. He also spoke of the place he loved above else, a beautiful valley above Skagway where he used to hunt goats. “When I win the lottery, we’ll fly over there and get a picture of that place so I can look at it when my mind starts drifting away,” he told me.

To have a look at Paul’s photo and to join the “Rural Alaskans for Obama” group (Muddies from all over the world welcome), here is the link.

Only 74% of Republicans say they will vote for the nominee of their party while 21% of GOP voters will cast their ballot for Begich, the mayor of Anchorage.

Fifty-two percent (52%) of Alaska voters say Stevens should resign while 39% disagree. Republican leaders including John McCain, his running mate Sarah Palin, the current governor of Alaska, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have all called upon Stevens to step down.

Oooh! I think it’s Dump on the Diva (or maybe we can call it Whack on the Wacko or to be nicer just call it “Pouring on Palin”) Day.

But besides Barack’s awesome “The Wink that wanted to by VP” ad.,

The Mighty Kos himself has a very nice diary going on Pg 1 right now over at Dailykos called, Palin Interrupted explaining how the only true ‘Share the Wealth’ socialist in the country right now is …… of course, Ms. Palin herself.

Over on the Recommended Diaries (to the right) another very nice diary entitled very simply, New Ethics Complaint Filed Against Palin detailing how a new ethics complaint was filed against the Mavericky-Reformer today …

The complaint against Governor Palin, alleges Misuse of Official Position: “Gov. Palin attempted to and in fact did use her official position for personal gain by securing unwarranted benefits for her daughters…” All the allegations contained in the complaint are related to state reimbursed travel.

Good stuff everywhere!!!!

Glad you got to see Michele Obama- I saw Barack in Denver with 99,000+ of my best friends, and it was awesome! Check out the Co Dem website, or Obama office web site in the Springs, and sign up for a shift. I didn’t wait for the call, and I’ll be helping on Tuesday in Arapahoe County.

All ballots, mail-in or on machine, will be counted by Tuesday evening, unless there are glitches and then states will continue into Wednesday. Only the provisional are counted late- they have to check to make sure each is legit. I think some ballots are being counted now, but it depends on the state.

CNN just ran a piece that Princess Palin needs: shopping sites for bargain hunters:) AKM, can you pass this on to the gov? She should look at underground shopper and shopping genie; that way she won’t commit the political faux pas of paying $150,000 for another new wardrobe.

In CO Secretary of State Mike Coffman was sued by several (Dem) defendants over purging voters (somewhere between 14,000-30,000) too close to the election. Living here in the state of hanging chads, I’ve got to give props to Charlie Crist, our overly tanned, completely sorta in the closet R gov. He extended early voting from 8 hours a day to 12, and until Sunday 2 November. It was supposed to end on Saturday.

R pols told him he’d “just lost the state for McCain.” I didn’t vote for Charlie, but I admire his stand on this one. Everyone here knew that the early vote (especially in the cities where the delays/problems were) was going to BHO. NO ONE whatever their party should be afraid to let every vote count, if they want to call themselves one who believes in democracy.

@Hope–
Or that we WANT her!

very well said, Hope. I have to admit (and I’m not even from Alaska); the “take her back” stuff bothers me too, and for the same reasons…as if Alaskans are somehow responsible for McCain’s poor judgement. I can see how you might have had enough to be pressed to a point where you needed to say something. I do agree, that the good folks here probably don’t mean anything negative by it. But that’s what we always say…after the fact. Thanks for pointing out that we can all benefit from thinking through the implications of things before we say them rather than after. In a care bear world (my son’s phrase) we’d all do this all the time. In the real world we forget, or are too busy, or in a hurry, or whatever. I really appreciated your post. My two cents.

I also really hope Obama’s TV spot tonight goes over well and doesn’t backfire. Derisive comments are already being made such as on Morning Joe yesterday when it was compared to a Communist takeover of the airwaves.
———————————————

I don’t know what the Repubs are getting all so “Joe McCarthy” about! The full tilt communist RADS are running the PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BAIL OUT WALL STREET! The Federal Reserve Politburo and the Bailout Comintern are printing money like it is 1917 on the outskirts of Moscow! Paulson originally wanted more Dictator Power over the economy that either Hitler or Stalin ever had when it came to issuing Reichmarks or Rubles. So why are THEY calling BO a communist? It’s down right quaint. Everyone on Wall Street should be wearing those little Mao hats. There hsould be a big banner of Che Guevara hanging over the entrance to EVERY ONE of the Core Nine Banks!

Wall Street is the ultimate COMMUNIST RED STATE now! Comrade George Bush has insured that! So why are these hacks getting all “mavericky” on BO?

I’m sorry – I was having a moment and have felt safe to vent here on Mudflats. I lived in AK when she was running for Gov. and believe I didn’t vote for her then. I am so glad that there are so many brave Alaskans who continue to work to expose the fraud she is. Probably 90% of the people we were friends with and had to work with while living there were died in the wool Repubs who would vote for an elephant if it were on the ticket rather than an Democrat. We tended to keep our opinions very close to our vest while living there as it’s such a small community in so many ways. I can’t imagine how this election must be playing out in the personal relationships up there.

WAY TO GO! I wrote a similar “admonishment” in a post a couple of weeks ago when the blog took on a nervous fervor, and lots of comments for Hillary to “go get her” and “Alaska, take her back”. I applaud you for speaking up! What I told posters was that no one was going to save them, for it’s up to them to save themselves and to do everything possible for their candidate, every day, in every way. I understand the horror these mudpuppies must feel about this fascist twit coming out of nowhere (AK wasn’t much on anyone’s map back then – oh so long ago!) but as you said, it’s up to ALL of us to stand in her way. I have put so much on the line to oppose this creepy shell of a human and to spread the word – I think I may have caused a little civil war in my own set of friends and family. That doesn’t matter, we will heal, but it had to be done and I won’t hesitate to do it again. Sorry to say – Dems have been lazy and whiny and wringing their hands for eight years – so get off your butts and keep an eye on your country FROM NOW ON. When Obama wins, this is just the beginning. You don’t get to go back to your soccer games, fireplaces, card games and breathe a sigh of relief that it will never happen again. As long as SP breathes, it could happen again and it’s up to ALL of us to make sure we shove her back down into the hole she crawled out of, and to not let her racist and vile actions & beliefs take hold. There, I said it, too!

At 56 seconds into the Interview he says “We’re tampering with” then corrects himself and says Acorn is Tampering with Americas most precious right. http://www.wftv.com/video/17712615/index.html

Either it was just a mistake Which I hope since he must be under enormous pressure) or he just told America that the Republicans are tampering with votes yet are trying to pin it on Obama.

They are is the way when speaking about other people not including yourself or in this case your party(Republican)

MD2K

One thing I saw ONLY mentioned in the Economist – ACORN had no choice. The law says that a group cannot “filter” voter applications and refuse to turn some in, since that would lead to groups grabbing everyone’s registration for them, then not registering anyone they think would vote for their opponent.

So even if the application is from Mickey Mouse, they must submit it to the government. Yes, they are stupid to keep employing people who just go through the phone book, since they are paid by the name. But, as Bill Maher pointed out on CNN with Wolf Blitzer – all they can do is divide them into piles -the good, the suspect and the ugly. They still have to turn in the form once it’s handed to them.

So, the whole consipiracy thing is a red herring. (Herring with lipstick?)
