If there’s anyone else left out there who doesn’t believe that Sarah Palin can look you in the eye and tell you black is white, I have a present for you. Here is the transcript of a five minute conference call with Sarah Palin, Meg Stapleton, the Anchorage Daily News, and local TV stations KTVA, and KTUU. The journalists got one question each with no follow up.
I’ve been struggling to find the right terminology for this. She has jumped the shark. She has landed on Fantasy Island. She has slipped through the looking glass. She’s Queen of Denial. She has become the Head of Orwell’s Ministry of Truth… choose whichever metaphor works for you.
Here is the transcript of Palin’s interview by these journalists, after the Branchflower Report on the Troopergate investigation was released, stating that she had abused her power as governor. As a matter of fact, let’s review Finding Number One as it is written:
“For the reasons explained in section IV of the report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.11(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.
“The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”
The second thing we should review before joining Sarah Through the Looking Glass, is that the Legislative Council, made up of TEN Republicans and FOUR Democrats voted unanimously to begin the investigation, and unanimously to release the results of the investigation. Ten Republicans, four democrats. Remember that, because it comes up later.
Alright. So here is the transcript. The emphasis is mine, and used on those passages that defy reality, and/or leave me speechless.
Palin: Hey, thank you so, Meg. Thank you so much. Thank you also to our local reporters up there in Alaska. Even hearing your names make me feel like I’m right there with you at home. It’s good to get to speak with you. Let me talk a little bit about the Tasergate issue if you guys would let me and, Meg, you want me to just jump right on in there?
Stapleton: Sure governor, go ahead.
Palin: OK cool.
Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that. Todd did what anyone would have done given this state trooper’s very, very troubling behavior and his dangerous threats against our family. Todd did what I think any Alaskan would do.
And he, Todd did what the state’s Department of Law Web site tells anyone to do if they have a concern about a state trooper. And that’s you go to the commissioner and you express your concern. And Todd did what our personal detail asked him to do. Bob Cockrell early on as I was elected and was asked are there any threats against ya, and Todd brought the concern as I did to Commissioner Monegan about the state trooper’s threats. He did what any – I think — any rational person would do so again, nothing to apologize there with Todd’s actions and again very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing.
(Stapleton invites the first question).
ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law. Do you think you did anything wrong at all in this Troopergate case?
Palin: Not at all and I’ll tell you, it, I think that you’re always going to ruffle feathers as you do what you believe is in the best interest of the people whom you are serving. In this case I knew that I had to have the right people in the right position at the right time in this cabinet to best serve Alaskans, and Walt Monegan was not the right person at the right time to meet the goals that we had set out in our administration. So no, not having done anything wrong, and again very much appreciating being cleared of any legal wrongdoing or unethical activity at all.
ADN: Have you read the whole report? (No response; Stapleton invites question from KTVA reporter).
KTVA-Channel 11: … The report that came out yesterday, do you think that the end result is partisan?
Palin: Yeah, I did think it did turn into a partisan circus to tell you the truth. Yes I did. You know from Day One it’s been the Personnel Board that clearly laid out in state statute there — Personnel Board deals with any issue of question regarding a governor, a lieutenant governor or an attorney general in the state of Alaska. What this legislative investigation — quote unquote — turned into was a political circus.
KTUU-Channel 2: Governor, so good to hear from you. Do you approve of the way that your campaign has handled themselves here in Alaska? We’ve had a lot of people voice concerns about what they call attacks of good people in our state while you are away.
Palin: Well I haven’t heard of any attacks on good people in Alaska from our campaign. If you have specifics there, maybe I could answer specifically. But no, in John McCain’s mission here, in taking the high road, as you’re going to see too with a lot of unfair shots he has taken in this campaign with some of his opponents’ supporters, McCain and I taking the high road, being positive. I wouldn’t support nor would I condone taking shots at any good Alaskans.
KTUU-Channel 2: Let me answer your question since you asked for specifics.
Palin: Sure.
KTUU-Channel 2: Walt Monegan was called “rogue.” How do you feel about that?
Palin: Rogue isn’t a negative term when you consider that in a cabinet you need a team effort going forward with a governor’s agenda. And our agenda has been to find efficiencies in every department and make sure that we are serving the people of Alaska to the best of our ability given the resources that we have. And remember I fought very hard to increase funding for state troopers so that we could fill positions there and goals not being met that included not being able to recruit and retain all the state troopers that I wanted to best serve Alaska. That could be characterized I think as a cabinet member who – it’s not a negative term I think — being rogue in terms of not meeting those goals.
Just for fun, let’s check out the definition of “rogue.” *clears throat*
Rogue. Adjective.
- Vicious and solitary. Used of an animal, especially an elephant.
- Large, destructive, and anomalous or unpredictable: a rogue wave; a rogue tornado.
- Operating outside normal or desirable controls: “How could a single rogue trader bring down an otherwise profitable and well-regarded institution?”
He’s a vicious, solitary elephant who doesn’t meet his goals…in a GOOD way.
So let’s recap. The report states she has abused her power as governor, and she’s really glad she’s done nothing wrong. Todd did what any “Alaskan” would do. She thinks the mostly Republican legislative council has turned into a partisan circus, but she hasn’t heard anything about attacks on anyone in Alaska from her campaign. The McCain campaign is taking the high road and being positive. And being a rogue cop isn’t a bad thing. Any questions?
If you want to read Lisa Demer’s full account, and hear the interview in the Governor’s own voice: CLICK HERE. That way you can just, you know, hear her talkin’ to the people, and bein’ what she is, also, and gettin’ her statement out there and rufflin’ feathers so as to serve the people of Alaska there also.
This must be the sound it makes when a house of cards collapses.
Wow, Palin is truly a whacko.. and apparently clueless about what is going on at home in her name.
I think it is time to think about organising a recall.
I am really beginning to feel that the media has to protest the mcshame campaign and not let the mcshame campaign have their way….mcshame should be answering the american public….
the journalists each got one question with no follow up….this is an acceptable interview?????……block all interviews till they meet media standards, mcshame is just able to get his word out…..
It’s time to play by the rules…………………
also, any info on the protests/booing at the philly game….anybody there????
thanks
Is she for real? I feel for ya’ll in Alaska: you’ll be gettin’ your village idiot back soon. Sorry.
AKM – It’s 6:30 am here in Washington, and after reading the following words, “Let me talk a little bit about the Tasergate issue…” I was ready to run away from my computer, screaming…my hair ablaze once again!
I can’t stand to read the entire transcript this early, but THANK YOU for truly wading through the muck and mire to keep us informed. Even if I am too much of a wimp to take it…
The Pitbull has got rabies.
palin did use the term”good” alaskans when saying she hadn’t heard of any
attacks on the people of alaska, so obviously mcshame aeels that any attacks were only on “bad” alaskans
have a great day!!!!
She shoulda been around for Nixon and may-be even Clinton…bettcha she coulda righted those partisan investigations by golly.
Using her logic no elected official, anywhere at anytime, should come under review by any assembled body that was not appointed by the accused.
Wow, I wonder if I can use that line of defense if I ever end up in court?
OMG~~what part of “abuse of power” or “unethical” does she not understand?
As I was sifting through the Bed Time thread to see all the fun that I missed overnight (as I was tossing and turning. AGAIN), I see that you too AKM didn’t sleep well. Wheels in the brain go round and round…
And who in God’sname awarded this chick a diploma in journalism?? One question per reporter was more than enough since NOTHING was answered (as usual). (sigh) And thanks but no thanks AKM to the audio choice as her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard! I would howver, LOVE to see a video of the reporter’s faces after each *answer*.
morning mudflatters…I awakened this morning to find a mass “forwarded” email from a cousin of min. (many of my family members are in texas/oklama
The email was encouring all of us to be sure to watch Hannity’s show on Obama because it was going to reveal…..(insert all the nasty character attack attempts here) the TRUTH about obama.
I simply replied to ALL with this”
“It’s amazing after all these years that I still choose those who INSPIRE over those who INCITE, How easy it would be (and maybe even more profitable) to be an inciter rather than an inspirer.
Hannity is an inciter. I would rather watch a show that talks about the issues rather than attacks character. I won’t be watching this show.”
Sarah Palin is IN DENIAL big time…
Sarah in Wonderland:
King of Hearts: What do you know about this unfortunate affair?
March Hare: Nothing.
Queen of Hearts: Nothing whatever?
March Hare: Nothing whatever!
Queen of Hearts: [shouts] That’s very important! Jury, write that down!
This woman is delusional. The McCreepy campaign is “taking the high road”?? Where was she when they said their campaign was going to be 100% negative?
The Tasergate comment was interesting. Guess she didn’t want to say Troopergate. She was careful to say she hadn’t violated any “legal” issues.
Again, does she take drugs??
Maybe the dictionary is one of those books she wanted banned. Rogue is also dishonest or worthless person, a scoundrel.
Morning from Florida
btw, mudflats is #4 on the Best Political Blog list with a whopping 196 votes today! Woot!
Wow!!!! She is unbelievable! I hope this makes it to the “Lower 48″ and soon! This could be a Tina Fey skit on SNL this week! Wow is all I can say! Wow!
….also, this woman has no idea what a “good Alaskan” is!
Oh brother, that’s just so pathetically delusional, it almost (just almost) makes me feel sorry for her.
I wonder if late at night, when she gets back to her hotel room, she puts on her ruby red slippers and clicks her heels together,
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
without realizing the “Straight Talk Express” doesn’t care that they are sending her back as roadkill.
Can anyone here comment on Timothy Petumenos being hired and the independent counsel for the Personnel board investigation?

**This article from Time Magazine gives you a good glimpse into the Lies the McCain’s volunteers tell about Obama going door to door.
She is not delusional, she knows exactly what she is doing and this by definition makes her very dangerous.
The way she is treating the media is exactly how she and McCain will run the White house.
I become more afraid everyday. In the end she is nothing but a pathalogical liar.
Has this already been posted on Mudflats? Someone should hand a copy of Newsweek to Palin. From “Troopergate Not Over Yet” by Michael Isikoff:
“Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin’s 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel’s report could be released soon after. “We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board,” said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin “has nothing to hide,” it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss. “

I was flipping through all my favorite newchannels here looking at the headlines. This one caught my eye and for a fleeting moment I thought our troubles were over and she was headed back to Alaska:
“Toxic cloud passes, residents allowed home”
That’s how hopeful I am that this will END!
This link is very helpful in terms of understanding the ethical lapses and lack of boundaries between the personal and the professional, which underlie all Palin’s problems. Please feel free to disseminate any of the ideas with no need for attribution. But take the time to read carefully as it will help you put in perspective why this woman is unfit for any office as well as what factors are vital to choosing a leader:

Title: Failure to Draw Boundaries: WHY ETHICS MATTERS
She is AMAZINGLY stupid!!! She doesn’t deserve to be a candidate for elementary vp, let a lone candidate for vp of the US.
RUNNING ON EMPTY
Proud Community OrganizerWA-
I agree that she is dangerous, in fact, she is IMHO one of the most dangerous politicians that I’ve ever seen because she is delusional.
Like McCain, she seems to be completely unaware that because of the internet, information, videos, interviews, etc will all get out there and contrary to their perception that voters are just dumb clucks who want to be led around by the nose, a whole lot of us want to be informed voters. (sorry I know the structure of that previous sentence was terrible).
I believe Sarah Palin and John McCain are so dangerous that I am spending every day out canvassing for Obama. I have been doing this for weeks now and will continue to right up until the election.
One observation I have made is that there is that I have not run into a single McCain canvasser. I am convinced they have no ground game, no matter what they say. They didn’t have one before they tanked and they don’t have one now.
Sarah Palin truly believes that she is ABOVE THE LAW! She seems to have made up a set of Laws for herself and her family, just as she tried to re-write the Constitution during the Debate as it pertains to the Vice President’s duties while in Office.
This is an indication of things to come if she were to be elected. She is delusional, a Liar, lacks Ethics, and promotes hate mongering.
AKM:
as usual, a brilliantly written piece, but with truly troubling content.
I want to get the mic at an Obama rally, and state that “I am really really afraid of Sarah Palin…”
She’s far from stupid. Pathological liar? Yes. Stupid? No.
So no, not having done anything wrong, and again very much appreciating being cleared of any legal wrongdoing or unethical activity at all.
That’s not even a sentence.
This is classic narcissistic personality disorder. There is no subject in it. The subject of course is I. She refuses to accept the truth about herself. She can’t handle it. She will unravel if forced to. So, instead, she’ll continue to create her own reality. Worse, she will get the people around her to lie for her. Not mentioning any names, Meg. Anyone who’s ever had the misfortune of being in a relationship with a narcissist knows you can never ever ever get these people to be honest. They are all sweet and nice and charming when you first meet them, but as you get to know them you realize they are frauds. The deeper you dig the more lies you find. When you confront them with clear evidence they continue to lie and refuse to acknowledge the glaring inconsistencies in their logic.
I encourage everyone to research it online. There are alot of people walking around with it, who appear normal, but are actually not. These people prey on the decency of others. They take kindness as weakness. As Hollis French said when explaining why he didn’t subpoeana (sp?) Sarah, “She said she would cooperate so many times that it seems illogical that she would not actually show up”. Well, she didnt. There you go. A rogue is not negative.
Read some of the horror stories in the support groups of victims of narcissists.
Clearly Palin’s idea of the “high road” is one completely unhinged from earth altogether. She’s floating in the stratosphere, divorced from reality. Floating off further and further from any future career except possibly fantasy writing.
ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law. Do you think you did anything wrong at all in this Troopergate case?
ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law. Do you think you did anything wrong at all in this Troopergate case?
Palin: Not at all and I’ll tell you, it, I think I’m going to ruffle feathers as I do what I believe in Christ, the best are the extreme right, white people whom I am serving in Holyland in my head. In this case God and I knew that I have the right to walk all over people and the environment. God made me the right person at the right time in this cabinet to best serve extremist in Alaska, and Walt Monegan, a true American, who believes in democracy, was not the right person from my congregation at the right time to meet Gods goals that we had set out in our administration. Amen.
What a crackpot…
John Henry, narcissistic personality is only for starters. This goes way beyond narcissism. It’s outright lying and manipulation. If you take narcissism to it’s furthest reaches you arrive at anti-social personality. Equivalent terms are sociopath or psychopath. That’s where we are now.
Palin is a kook. Even the staunchest sons of the Republican party are standing up to proclaim it.
As I read the above “interview”, I couldn’t help but think of the essay I read this morning by Christopher Buckley, the writer and son of one of the most famous conservatives in America history, William F. Buckley, who was my John Birch Society father’s greatest hero– Christopher Buckley has come out as an Obama supporter! His essay starts with a quote from his father, a man who never suffered fools gladly: “You know, I’ve spent my entire life time separating the Right from the kooks.”
To start your morning off right, read Christopher Buckley’s clever, erudite, and yes Obama-praising essay here: “Sorry, Dad, I’m voting for Obama.” http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-10-10/the-conservative-case-for-obama/
Disenchanted wrote: “She’s far from stupid. Pathological liar? Yes. Stupid? No.”
No, no offense, but I beg to differ. There’s nothing about Palin that’s smart. She can’t even string a sentence together using a subject and a predicate. She is really, really dumb. Have you seen the SAT scores that are supposedly hers, along with the high school grades? She allegedly had a 2.2 average and she went to 5 colleges….She doesn’t know the most basic tenets of the English language, and it’s her native tongue. She doesn’t even know that an “Achilles heel” is. She probably thought all hockey players love her when she took the Philly appearance. She probably thinks Tina Fey likes her, too.
Newsweek has an interesting take on the personnel board and its lawyer.
“But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin’s 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. The following comment is very picky: but I do wish we wouldn’t fall into the habit of renaming the candidates (e.g. Mc Same, McShame and worse). It takes away from the seriousness of our comments and often makes us sound as negative as the opposition.
TheraP,
Excellent post. Thank You.
Sarah needs a tarring and feathering…metaphorically. Impeach this sociopath please,by all thats good in the world!!!! We beg you!
Wow well for once (and only once) Sarah Palin has left me speechless. She really does just live in her own little world.
I deeply appreciate you taking the time to get the truth out there.
I hope folks up in Alaska keep digging for the truth and it out to the public.
From what I’ve seen mentioned in some new reports she also illegally charged the Alaskan taxpayers for some expenses and owes a lot fo back taxes. As well using her political office to promote her religious agenda. But there really isn’t much available, so it’s hard to tell what is fact or exaggeration.
A lot of folks worry about Bristol and Levi too. I hope they are ok. My heart goes out to both of them.
[...] of Delusional Jump to Comments Here is a transcript of a conference call at Mudflats of Gov. Palin had with some journalists after the [...]
First the good news: Barack Obama has gotten the endorsements of the Dayton Daily News and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, two key newspapers in very key states.
Now my fears. After watching clips of several Palin recent speeches, I was not only worried about what some crazy would do in this country where charasmatic, hope-filled leaders have a history of assassination attempts. It really bothered me especially after watching the skinhead sheriff in uniform firing off a salute that if a Hitleresque personality was ever to run in this democracy, there is a large base here that would be ready, willing and able to follow like mice. Is anyone else bothered by this?
Lady Rose:
And about Bristol and Levi, why haven’t we seen the wedding yet? Or are they waiting to see who’s elected first?
Liar, stupid, kook, we can also add hypocrite to the list. The religious right gave Palin a pass on their unwed, pregnant teenage daughter while they would have run Obama into the ground had it been him.
Wow. Just wow. Also.
Just when I think I have heard it all, she speaks again. I really don’t know what to say, I look at the computer screen and shake my head. Also.
I’m frustrated at the RNC attempt to bury the entirety of the situation into one event. Sure, Sarah was justified in firing anyone. She was the governor and that’s what governors do. HOWEVER, she abused her authority in trying to get Wooten fired. 2 different things, not one. Palin DID break the rule and she is sliding sideways out of it by claiming the firing was legal. It isn’t the firing, it’s the abuse we’re looking at!
http://news.yahoo.com/election/2008/dashboard
Some good-looking numbers here.
Sorry about the repost on Newsweek.
Regarding rogue, I always equated a rogue as being a hyper-maverick. Maybe
Palin is projecting her own characteristics onto Monegan in a somewhat exaggerated way.
Tom from PA:
John Lewis was right. We haven’t seen this level of discourse since George Wallace ran for Governor. And it’s made her more dangerous than Bush, Cheney and McCain combined. McCain can’t even reign in his ROGUE pick, how can he run this country?
But I’m not worried about assassination attempts. Well not in the sense of it being more prevelant now than before. Reagan, Ford and I think HW Bush also, yes? had attempts on their life. Kooks will always abound.
I am heartened by the news in Newsweek that Palin is now trembling over the release of the report from the Personnel Board–this after she filed an ethics investigation complaint against herself so they would investigate her and “clear her.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if after they love the election to Obama-Biden if she doesn’t try to sue herself.
The truly funny thing is even while reading a transcript of what she said I cannot get that ridiculous “Fargo” accent of hers out of my head.
I was not aware that we made any breakfast cereals up here in Alaska, but apparently we do make Fruit Loops!
At least the rest of the country can breathe a sigh of relief when she and McCain get defeated in November, but for us our troubles may just be beginning.
Ooopps. Second try: I wouldn’t be surprised if after they LOSE the election to Obama-Biden if Palin doesn’t try to sue herself.
TheraP, thanks for the link about the ethics. So informative and interesting.
After all this crap, coming from the mouth of this idiot—–and absolutely NOTHING about all this in the national media—-WHY in the hell are they protecting this woman? It is causing people to forget what this election is all about. Our country is in serious trouble. We could end up as a third world country. I just viewed a video that deeply concerns me.
http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/442.html
The Alaskan people are our only hope. Let your voices be heard. I pray that all of you can yell loud enough that it will be heard around the world.
Peace
My head hurts.
WTF is it with this woman? I can’t decide if she’s looney, stupid, or a sociopath. And I thought Wyoming politics stunk.
Are you all planning on a recall election when she runs back to Alaska with her tail between her legs on November 5th? Maybe you should start proceedings NOW.
The reason for Palin’s constant reconstruction of reality is that she sees herself through this frame.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/8/81320/5572/717/623739
From the lead:
“I believe in warfare. We were given an assignment in Alaska… we had the very liberal candidates running for governor, and we began to pray for God to give us a Christian “, declared Mary Glazier. At a three day religious conference held in Everett, Washington last summer, on June 13, 2008, Glazier described how, nearly two decades ago, her movement helped propel Alaska Independence Party candidate Walter J. Hickel, in an upset write-in campaign, into the Alaska governor’s office: Glazier’s new prayer group member, a 24 year old woman named Sarah Palin, would later follow.
Thanks much for the transcript; without it I would have no idea what she said. It’s been a long time since I heard a politician speak this way. She talks and talks and when she done everyone looks at each other and asks, “What did she say?” I just heard on MSNBC that the Gallup pol has Obama 9 points ahead. Also Sarah Cutesy was soundly booed at the hockey showoff. It looks like Alaska is going to get her back. I feel sorry for Mudflats. Within a year they’re going to have $300,000 in traffic tickets.

I have decided that Palin is all of the above!
I truly feel badly for Alaskans.
In regard to the personality assessments of SP, I still hold with Fromm’s psychoanalytic perspective and point to a nerophilic personality. It accounts for the traits of narcissism, amoral functioning, the objectification of others,
extreme ruthlessness and an obsessive-compulsive dedication to getting one’s own objectives by whatever means. Fromm classified Hitler and Stalin as extreme examples of this type, but noted that most are more mundane and often are able to operate marginally at levels above their normally expected positions. This puts them under great stress and helps to trigger high levels of denial coupled with the paranoid symptoms of delusions of grandeur and hostility toward others.
Meant to tell you all there is a brand new book on Amazon: THANKS BUT NO THANKS: THE VOTER’S GUIDE TO SARAH PALIN by Sue Katz and Sandy somebody. I got it for my new Kindle and have just started reading it. I think it’s going to be a must read for everyone.
Troopergate Part 2: It’s Not Over Yet
From Newsweek Magazine – http://www.newsweek.com/id/163465
“But there could be more land mines ahead. Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. WooHoo! Hope springs eternal! It ain’t over ’til it’s over!
So, how is her response to this going to play with the Legislature and the citizens of Alaska?
She taken another hard swipe at an honest and well thought of Alaskan and at a certain point I would think this has to backfire. She’s basically done everything she can to discredit a huge amount of good people and her inner circle keeps getting smaller and more rabid by the day. How soon will it be Sarah, Todd, Meg, and Talis against the world?
Correct me if I’m wrong but there are ramifications to her actions that haven’t been addressed yet (such as censure or impeachment). Wouldn’t it be wise to throw out a blizzard of words and just try to snow the press at this point? Something along the lines of “with the needs of this campaign I have not had the opportunity to read the report but as soon as I am able I will and issue a statement” That would diffuse the situation for now and not make her look like such a delusional individual. What is the use of antagonizing everyone even further still when they can still create legal and political problems for you?
If I’m wrong and this is all done and dusted please let me know. Even if it is, if i were her I would still tread lightly. She’s going to have to come back to Alaska and try to govern (I know she honestly thinks she’s going to win) so why not try to make nice, even if it isn’t in your nature? She’s clearly made a life of acting like someone she isn’t so why not do it here; or doesn’t that play into the pitbull character she now plays?
So we have another Bush in that Palin will never take responsibility for anything, never admit she’s heaven forbid wrong. She’ll spin everything into it being a partisan witch hunt (thankfully she has Muthee on her side) and the hand of God will help her to govern in a wise yet misunderstood manner.
Just like a lot of loyal Bushie’s have had their eyes opened by his destruction of this country a lot of loyal Palinites will have to admit that their messiah has failed them as well. Thankfully I believe Alaskans will smell Palin’s BS a lot quicker than the Bushie’s smelled his so there will be hope for their state after all.
SoCal Bob:
Indeed, it’s the abuse of power. I want to see Obama ads highlighting this this week.
Obama will be airing a 30 minute commercial ad on Oct 29. Thanks to all of us who have been giving money to his campaign so he can do this. I’m hoping he includes this very important element.
ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law. Do you think you did anything wrong at all in this Troopergate case?
Palin: Yes, it is clear to me I violated state law, but worse than that, I violated every Alaskan citizens trust. I was wrong about Walt Monegan a truely honorable American who was loyal and dedicated to upholding our states laws, for this I can only express my most sincere apology to Walt and all Alaskans.
ADN: What are your plans now, in light of your failed leadership of Alaska?
Palin: Well, I plan on touring Alaska, bush and all, not as Governor but as a citizen, I need to go face to face with Alaskans and let them know just how sorry I am. In the meantime, I am temporarily turning over my leadership position and responsibilities to Walt Monegan until they seat the Lieutenant Governor.
ADN: What are your future plans for your family?
Palin: Well, Todd and I and the kids can eek out a living in LasVegas, we hope to open a wax museum of failed republican leaders called Republican-O-Rama.
Obviously, the above will never happen…
But this will Obama/Biden 08
I was talking last night to a friend about the election. He said that he is voting for McCain/Palin. “Man, she’s hot,” he said. So now there is a new qualification for candidates for the Presidency; the candidate has to be hot first of all. My friend must have been looking at some other woman because, while Sarah Cutesy isn’t ugly, I don’t feel that she’s anything to leave your wife for. I couldn’t stand being around that voice very long. Every time she comes on the TV I hit the mute button.

Crap, 2 of my post have gone into the spam file because my name box was empty, dah.. sorry AKM…
**This must be the sound it makes when a house of cards collapses.**
Loud and clear
Sarah took her girls to the philly’s hockey game to drop the puck. Bad decision…The Boo’s were so loud they had to turn up the music. You can see Obama/Biden signs in the clip on you tube.
Sarah is a very dangerous politician. I can not believe McCain still has her on this ticket.
Will Alaska welcome her back with open arms?
My question is why is her husband involved in government work?
I really hope the rumor that Sarah will be on saturday night live is not true.
http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1849399,00.html : “What the Troopergate Report Really Says”
Their conclusion was basically “the amateurism and cronyism of her brief administration hardly leaves Palin sitting pretty.” Now, add to this the fact that she hired an administrator to do the “executive” part of the job when she was elected mayor of Wasilla, what does it say about her “executive experience” that makes her so qualified to be the Vice President (or President)? Why doesn’t the Obama Campaign make a big deal out of this???
I too saw the Newsweek article this morning and am curious about the ramifications. This one line is tantalizing and I will repeat it again…
I wonder if Palin will start unraveling soon. The boos at the Flyer game last night must have been unnerving. I don’t think she’s heard too many boos yet as she has been so safely shielded by the McCain campaign speaking only to favorable, right-wing diehards.
The fall from being the adored messiah (her perception) to the public’s realization that she is just another flawed, ethically-challenged, self-serving lying Republican was amazingly swift even in repug-world terms.
I hope AKM can give us some perspective on the upcoming personnel board examination and what the ramifications of the board choosing Democrat independent council is going to mean to Ms. Palin who must sit down to be interviewed by them next week. It’s one thing to lie over the phone to reporters, it’s quite another to lie under oath. Is even Sarah Palin that delusional?
Also, I know this article has been mentioned here before, but this Salon article is a must-read about Sarah Palin. Written by a writer and photographer who has lived in Alaska for 30 years, I think it is the most honest and informative perspective we’ve seen on Palin yet.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/10/11/sarah_palin_alaska/
Sarah Palin is such a fraud – a every, single level.
I just have to share this will all of you – I was just accused of not supporting Palin because she is good looking and I’m not LOL
seriously I swear – here is the link to the comments

(here’s a partial quote: Plus, she’s [Palin] good lookin’ and certain women resent her.(http://dietpulpit.com/about/) – that is my page with my photo.
and I truly do appreciate that he included a link to the page with my photo so all the world could see
LOL this has to be the funniest thing I ever heard
This is one not so good looking woman who is proud to NOT support Sarah Palin. hehehehehe
Sorry, I hit the submit comment button before I was finished.
Why doesn’t this finding disqualify her from running for VP? What will the repercussions be? Will someone file for recall or impeachment? Will Monegan sur her for harassment? What’s the buzz and when will she disappear?
She is definitely a narcissist. I worked with a woman exactly like her and,as I read about Palin on the Huffington Post, it is these people who can look you straight in the eye, without blinking, and lie lie lie. They also truly believe that they have special privileges. I truly think that she does scare the bigeebees out of McCain (I see him brace himself every time she starts to open her mouth), but he so wants to be Pres before he dies that he has sold his soul to the lowest bidder!
No matter what is said publicly, you know McCain–even if he is only half there–deeply regrets having her on the ticket now. She has brought nothing but scandal and the ability to “rile up” the racist side of the GOP base.
That’s not hard to do. (Evidently, it’s also not hard to arouse GOP men….)
“World events do not occur by accident: They are made to happen, whether it is to do with national issues or commerce; and most of them are staged and managed by those who hold the purse strings.”

“I wonder if Palin will start unraveling soon.”
I think the unraveling has begun for both Palin and McCain.
From the International Herald Tribune..
“Obama’s fortunes were expected to get a further boost Sunday when former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, make their first joint campaign appearance together on his behalf — setting aside hard feelings left over from the Democratic primary contest in which Obama outdistanced the former first lady in a bitter, extended race.”
And I think Hillary’s the perfect pitbull to accelerate that.
Read any book on how conservatives govern, and this is right out of the playbook. Black isn’t black, white isn’t white, and if one of their own (read “W,” Newt, etc) fails it’s not because conservatism is bad. It’s because he/she wasn’t A) conservative enough or B) was corrupted by the entrenched liberal power structure (HUH?).
Seriously, I’d recommend either of Thomas Frank’s fine works, “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” and “The Wrecking Crew.” Gives a whole new meaning to manipulation.
23 days, and hopefully those of us in the lower 48 will have heard the last of Sarah. For y’all in AK, you know what you need to do as far as a recall or whatever goes.
I have also just read the Newsweek article and I am pleased to see that the mudpuppies are out there in force getting the word out already. For Sarah Palin De-Nile ain’t just a river in Egypt.
Someone wrote that Sarah Palin is scheduled to be on SNL on 10/25. I wonder how she would respond if she was booed Live From New York!!
Lady Rose,
If the only way they can dismiss you is through an “ad hominem” attack on your looks, then we know what kind of “good Christians” they are. And they can’t defend her policies on specifics!
You have exposed them. Well done and I’m sorry if they hurt your feelings.
Two thoughts: 1) Palin is insane. Exhibit A = this entire blog.
2) Journalism as we once knew it is dead. Exhibit B = Faux News
Think about this. If Faux News and Limbaugh did not exist, where would the idiots get their so-called information? Somehow this crap has been elevated to news in the public’s mind. Legitimate press has followed suite by overreacting to ensure that both “political sides” get equal coverage. Nevermind that one “side” consists of total and complete bs that any 6th grader can debunk. Where is true journalism in all of this? What the hell happened to the “people have the right to know”? It has been replaced by “the parties have the right to tell you what they want you to think”. Truth is dead.
I could not bring myself to click the link to actually hear her voice spew those ridiculous statements. She is truly deluded.
I’m certain that she actually thinks she’s not guilty. She clearly threw todda-sauce under the bus, though. I guess she doesn’t care if he goes to jail for her, as long as she’d president (oops, VP). She’ll pardon him. I bet she’s thinking this all along.
There are many shoes to drop on this issue. We didn’t see the whole report. Besides the “new” House-gate saga is just starting to get legs. I’m sure there is more, and I hope that Obama or his surrogates pursue this stuff.
I’m also certain that the IRS will be doing their part. They don’t like getting stiffed on taxes that should have been paid on gifts, gifts which are being roundly broadcasted as such. Idiots.
anonymous:ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law.
—————–
I know you wrote this tongue-in-cheek, but seriously I would think this would be the best stategy Palin could adopt. The only thing the public hates worse than a lying, cheating fraud is an unrepentent lying, cheating fraud.
Palin would have so many options open to her if she just admitted her mistakes. By denying the findings of the investigation and blaming it on a partisan witchhunt, she destroys all chance of redemption and even forces her die-hard supporters to reevaluate her.
For such a devote Christian, she really hasn’t learned much about how Christianity works has she? My take on it has always been that the Lord hates a sinner but he loves to forgive them. But of course he can’t forgive one until they confess their sins.
But then again where would she start… She has violated so many things that the Lord hates, there probably isn’t enough time between now and election day for her to list all her trangressions and get ’saved’ in time..
Poor Sarah… What a tangled web we weave…
Lulu (06:26:29) :
LOL I never said she was smart, just said she wasn’t stupid. In her world nothing sticks and she goes about her business spewing and believing her own lies. Talk about nailing Jello to a wall! Everyone (who is *anyone*) has politely called her out on her words and she just fluffs passed the obvious truth and makes it something else that suits her needs.
If Katie Couric (or Charlieee for that matter) had been allowed to grab her by the neck and pin her up to the wall (which I’m sure that thought crossed both of their minds) and threaten with *just answer the question dammit*, maybe she would have been forced to look in a mirror and think, *hey I can’t get away with my usual dodgeball maneuver.*
I guess people see what they want to see but from the moment she walked on that RNC stage and opened her mouth, my first impression was ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? McCain is insane. In the brain.

brand “We Report, You Decide”. Nobody but the neo-cons think what they do is reporting.

To all who are wondering why Obama’s team don’t rail at SP, it is the same reason we don’t feed trolls on this site. Give them air and they love it. Makes them more important than they are.

I agree about the not railing, but I think Hillary could lob some ’salvos of truth’ in the McCain/Palin direction.
Then again, as AKM points out, there’s always Orwell:
“Winston had disliked her from the very first moment of seeing her. He knew the reason. It was because of the atmosphere of hockey-fields and cold baths and community hikes and general clean-mindedness which she managed to carry about her. He disliked nearly all woman, and especially the young and pretty ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy.”

Well, after reading that transcript, I have to say, at least she’s consistent. I mean, sometimes someone is so in character you have to smile in a disgusted sort of way. She’s just going to brazen it out and spin it for all it’s worth.
That divorce must have been ugly, it still is. I don’t know the details, I’m sure they are not appropriate to discuss here, but I have had some painful divorces in my family. The unwillingness to forgive and forget can poison relationships for many years. That seems to be a big part of the level of denial I see here.
Again, this and the house project demonstrate not a ‘reform’ politician but someone who retooled the corrupt old ways to benefit family, self, and friends. Unfortunately, many people in Washington can relate to this, but personally, this is not the kind of public official I would ever want to hold office, let alone a VP spot. I don’t know the Alaska constitution at all, but the experts and citizens will I’m sure will figure out what’s appropriate. Censure? Impeachment? No reelection? Vote of no confidence? And then maybe a real change in Alaska governance?
It’s also total amateur hour. I mean, the Secret Service would have to have an entire unit devoted to this family if they, heaven forfend, got anywhere near the White House.
I know, I know, not the kids, but where is Bristol these days? Seeing Piper and Willow with Gov. Palin in Philly this weekend made me wonder if there has been a public sighting of Bristol since the GOP convention. I think I saw a baby photo of Trig on the tarmac somewhere last week, but no Bristol. Any folks from Alaska who live near there have any idea? And no talk of a wedding until next year or something, when a few weeks ago it was going to ’shut down the campaign’ for a week.
Meanwhile, here in SE MN we are waiting for a visit from Michelle Obama (‘Mobama’) tomorrow. One classy woman. Can’t wait!

Palin isn’t deluding or fooling anyone – only herself.
Palin’s ‘favorability’ rating has hit a new low today. She is now at -21. This is from being +16 on 9/11. She has fallen 37 points in a month.
Obama and Biden are both at a +30 and McCain is at -10.
Oh and according to the R2K polls Obama is up 13 points in the national polls today! 53 to 40 over McCain! Amazing!
And this is why Obama’s team doesn’t need to stoop to the despicable levels the McCain campaign is at now. Taking the high road is quite nice and pleasant, especially when one really is on the high road.

I agree, but I don’t think its so picky.
such things can look vaguely amusing when you’re in on the joke, but when I see others do similar things against Obama & Biden, I cringe.
I have similar feelings about other kinds of simple but empty dismissiveness too; like hearing ‘boo hiss ‘at a rally.
What I like about AKM’s writing, is the focused attention on rational discourse, even about irrational things, and the separation of emotion from the analysis. The occasional expression of exasperation or incredulity seems to be a consequence of the analysis and not something that taints it.
So yes, anything that seems like insulting hissing and jeering from the crowd is rather distinct from what many of us admire about AKMs writing.
Is there any way in the world you poor people can demand a recall when she gets back there? GAWD-almighty, she’s a blithering idiot. So long as she’s your fearless leader, she casts a sickening shadow on you good people.
Palin has rightly been described as a narcissist by several posters above. The only statement I would take issue with is the issue of lies. We know she is lying, but as a narcissist she truly believes what she is saying.
I think at sometime in the not-too-distant future Palin will become a textbook study in narcissism.

I was very touched by your picture of Walt Monegan’s mother — it made me think about how my own mother would have felt if I had been abruptly and publicly fired for “insubordination” and all those other reasons — and I wondering if Walt Monegan is considering suing Palin for unfair dismissal. If so, I would love to contribute to the Mrs Monegan Fund For Justice… it’s really too bad what has been done to this family.
I love it that Palin is calling this Tasergate. The taser incident, whatever the truth of it, has nothing to do with her callous decision to take a good man’s job away from him. Unless — come to think of it — that decision was motivated by revenge for the taser incident??? Hmmmmmm….
Here’s the thing – Sarah Palin actually believes her own lies within 5 minutes of saying them.
She’s truly insane and needs to be institutionalized.
If you can stomach listening to the audio, I found it worthwhile. Her pathology is even clearer when she is saying the words with her tones and emphases.

I agree about the trolls and generally about why Obama doesn’t directly go after her but I will also say that I know many people (who could be persuaded) that seem to think that if she were “that” bad, someone “official” would have called her on it. The fact that they don’t actually question her validity actually gives her some. I’m guessing they went with the strategy of “give her enough rope…” and so far its working to a certain degree. I guess that’s why I’m not a strategist
Unfortunately, McPalin’s ability to spin most of this stuff away works fine for the people here they are trying to reach.

If that’s the high road, I’d hate to see the low road. I don’t think ‘positive’ means what she thinks it means.
Burn the witch.
She’s delusional and has obviously underestimated the Alaskan people, many of whom, now seem to be taking an active roll in trying to help the rest of the country get the information they need to get to know what Palin is really all about. Especially since she has managed to avoid any serious interviews with the press. How has she gotten away with that? I think all the news stations should boycott anything McCain wants to get out there until she is forced to give a real press conference. This is insane.
Wow. Incredible.
I wonder how Sarah will describe the event of the deafening boos that greeted her at the hockey game in Philly last night. How sad that she exposed her 7-year old to this environment, with the plan that people would not boo if her jersey clad 7 year old was with her.
Family values, yes, indeed.

I agree with you. Only a full blown NPD case would tell such blatant lies that will obviously be recognized and found out by:
a) the authorities in legal matters
b) family members in personal matters (especially the kids who may not understand now, they will understand later that Mommy is a whack-job)
c) her “God” in spiritual matters
d) Joes six pack when she doesn’t deliver on the promises
She reminds me of that movie The Mask. There’s gotta be a little voice somewhere inside of her head whimpering “Somebody stop me!” because if not, she is beyond any help know to Human or God.
Does Palin think that everyone else is that stupid? I do not think she really believes her own words, she’s just hoping that everyone else will.
Oh man, I just read on the HuffPo that McLame is pulling out the POW card.
Wait. He was a POW? Who knew?
Did they also mention that he gave up crucial information to his captors to save his own hide? That he put other GI’s at risk so he could live another day? Ack… sickening. They need to avoid that landmine.

Yes, someone like Hillary would be appropriate to – lob salvos of truth.
This seems appropriate here:
Never wrestle with a pig: You both get all dirty, and the pig likes it.
Never argue with an idiot.
They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
It’s becoming real clear that the Palins have taken the current experience with the nation spotlight as a vindication that lies always serve them best – anywhere. I just hope that Alaskans are as smart as they seem and will take the time (so far.. so good) to un-mask this complete scam of a governor.
Some have already had too much of the Cheeney/Rove KoolAide and will never recover. Most, it seems, have come to believe that they got sold a BAD bill of goods when Palin was elected. Can these Alaskans take it to the next level and rid themselves of this menace?? It seems from the current mood VERY LITTLE time will pass before we know the answer…
Description of NPD:
http://allpsych.com/disorders/personality/narcissism.html
What are the poor people of Alaska going to do with this loose cannon when the presidential election is over? You are stuck with a real winner up there. I would be willing to bet that if/when McCain loses, the Republican elite are going to drop her like a hot potato. They have been out there supporting her with their noses plugged as it is, hoping she’ll keep bringing in the heavy nut crowd. Good luck!
This is one dangerous politician.
She has studied the rove/cheney hand book and has God on her side.
Ihope for the country’s sake that you get her back in Nov., but considering how the repubs stole the election in Florida and now Ohio 04 looks iffy, we may be stuck with her.
God help us all.
But no, in John McCain’s mission here, in taking the high road, as you’re going to see too with a lot of unfair shots he has taken in this campaign with some of his opponents’ supporters, McCain and I taking the high road, being positive.
So, Palin thinks she’s taking the high road and being positive at her rallies?
The prospect of her being in any position of power is becoming increasingly frightening. I will pray for my fellow Americans in Alaska when Palin returns to her job there.
Too bad there was no law requiring resignation to run for national office.
I for one can’t wait to hear the Rally in Scranton today with Joe Biden and Bill & Hillary Clinton. Wish I could actually be there ~

Hmm…..So she says,
“I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.”
But then she went on to say that she thought the end result of the investigation was partisan, that the investigation was a partisan circus.
If she really thinks she has been cleared, why would she go on to discredit the investigation that “cleared” her?
Wouldn’t she be saying they did a great job?

Palin is a kooky nuthead. She makes me dizzy when she talks…round and round and nothing ever makes sense and rufflin’ feather and such and rearin’ her empty head. The ‘interview’ was weird. They all are. Does she really talk like that? Or is that just a voice she uses to fit in with the common folk? It drives me nuts.
I am amazed she even got elected as Govn…sorry Alaska. It is amazing to see the Anti-Palin rallies and the involvement of the people, keep up the good work! I have passed Mudflats to everyone who will listen. We have to have hope!!
The thing that really gripes my behind is that she is the darling of the religious fundies. Her appeal to them isn’t that she is a good Christian in the sense that Christians are about good things like tolerance, love, honesty, forgiveness and all those things most of us actually believe. Her appeal to them as a good Christian is her “holier than thou” attitude that supports a belief that any means (lies included) is acceptable to achieve success. In this case I am assuming success means banning abortion and gay marriage. When the “reality” for them is that lying is an acceptable means to an end, is it any wonder this stuff rolls off her tongue so easily?
Obviously,
She has smiled, winked, and charmed and conned her way — all through her political career.
The ADN asked her if she has read the report — she replied she had “been briefed” on it.
Maybe she should just read it.
“Tasergate” Not!
Diane, I see it in McCain, also, but I don’t think he’s always been like that; Palin, it seems, has.
It’s her children for whom my heart aches. What mother’s with NDP do to their kids’ psyches is beyond belief. I think a good part of Bristol’s issues (and probably Track’s also) are a direct result of their mother’s personality disorder.

Speaking as a psychologist, I can tell you that long distance diagnosing is considered to be inappropriate – it also created a major stink and a lawsuit during the Goldwater campaign in 1964 when a major magazine had a group of therapists “diagnose” Goldwater as being paranoid. On the other hand psychoanalytic commentary on political character types has always been accepted since Freud’s time. Erich Fromm was the best at this, which is why I referenced him earlier in this thread. If you look at the Anatomy of Human Destructiveness. You will find that his necrophilic personality applies very well here.
I listened to the audio over on ADN. In fact I listened to it twice. As shocking as it to read the transcript, it’s really unbelievable to hear her sayings the words in a straight forward, matter of fact way. It left me just shaking my head. It was as if my brain couldn’t process what my ears were hearing. I don’t know what is wrong with, but I do think she suffering from some type of mental illness. I, too, would love to see a psychiatrist’s report on her. I was also struck by the fact that she didn’t even read the report – an aide read it and briefed her intensely on the contents so maybe she doesn’t know what it says. I can’t believe she didn’t read it.
All the rest of the McCain campaign must suffer the same affliction. Saw Rick Davis on ( I think it was Meet the Press this morning) talking about how Obama’s campaign is so much more negative than McCain’s. Living in NC where the political ads are running almost nonstop, I can tell that’s not true.
Sarah Palin is a pathological liar. Today on the Fox News Sunday program Rick Davis called the Alaskan Legislative Investigation a “Kangaroo Court” run by an Obama supporter.
Keep feeding the light. Raise your internal vibrations. Ignore the fear mongers. Let’s concentrate on winning these elections!

—————————————————–
Tucker Bounds said the same thing to Chris Jansing yesterday and she replied” Oh no, no, no, you can’t have it both ways!” Go Chris …call them on it.
@ Miemaw from Texas (08:10:29) : //The ADN asked her if she has read the report — she replied she had “been briefed” on it. //
They told Sarah what they wanted Sarah to know. She’s so ignorant, she didn’t read the report herself, she relied on others to interpret it for her. She has no idea when the campaign is over, she’ll be surprised to see how much trouble she’s in.
The investigation was about her firing Monegan, and she was cleared.
Take a deep breath, and meditate on that.
The only finding against her was her failure to act to restrain others from applying pressure to fire Wooten.
If they ever choose to directly address it, they will, as they have hinted, say that Todd was being (over)protective of his sister, and golly who can blame him for that!?
The report is not an indictment or a verdict of guilt.
It doesn’t help to misunderstand that.
She is delusional…bottom line…
The sad part is I realllly think she believes the shit she says lol
Frankly…its just absurd to spend an entire week trying to assault someones character when at the end of the same week yours is called into question…
This is becoming a joke for the McCain campaign…and the pundits on the Sunday morning shows weren’t afraid to say it either…

My thoughts exactly. Those poor, poor children. I was raised by an extreme religious fanatic and as a child, it really messes with your head to have your own parent contradict what 95% of the world thinks is true.
Call me extremely cynical after the last 8 years, but I don’t see SP’s political career as over if she & McCain lose (as fingers-crossed & barring vote rigging, they will).
Her “brand” is being in tested in a firestorm, and even though a lot of us can see through all the b.s., she has a lot appeal for some elements. Given that, what should be of concern to us all is that she may go low-profile for a while to have some political grooming: all the rough edges smoothed, some heavy-duty training to sublimate the particularly odious character elements.
It would be horrible to have her emerge 8 years from now with greater sophistication. She’s awful, etc., but unfortunately no dummy.
Maddie,
Her “brand” is being in tested in a firestorm, and even though a lot of us can see through all the b.s., she has a lot appeal for some elements.
I couldn’t agree more.
I know I said I wouldn’t but I couldn’t help myself. Yes, I listened to the interview! OMG! I envisioned her propped back getting a pedicure while clutching her crumpled talking points.
And after kissing myself for listening, I’ve come to the conclusion that she speaks *steno*!! Guess she snoozed through the class that prepared her to translate those notes.
and I snoozed through the proofreading class I guess! LOLOL
Make that KICKING myself
it looks like palin is getting away with the troopergate thing.. how is that???
i hate to think of our country if mccain gets in office. just what has the last years with bush goten us? a war we can’t afford, big job losses, debt to other countries, factories moving overseas, where will it all go?
if they get in they will set women back 50 years… roe vs wade will no more be. women will still get abortions, but not in the safe ways they can now.

A friend of mine sent this link to me this morning –don’t know if this has been posted on this thread yet:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathlyn-and-gay-hendricks/body-politics-sarah-palin_b_132785.html
“At least when John McCain lies, his body screams his discomfort by putting on an eye-catching display of twitches, phony smiles and robot moves. McCain’s body language is so strange that it’s easily observable; he appears to be operated by a puppeteer who is a couple of triple-espressos over the line. That’s a good thing, though. We’d much rather have a presidential candidate who reads like a comic book when he’s lying than one who conceals those whoppers under a grin and a wink. Sarah Palin belts out her deceptions and distractions with a radiant confidence we usually only see in sociopaths and infomercial pitch-persons. The last public figure we saw who could grin and lie with that kind of sunny confidence was O. J. Simpson.”
What a kick it would be to hear Keith or Rachel read this transcript verbatim on national television! Send it on dear mudpuppies (I have!). It would be just plain un-American for us to keep this gem to ourselves!

Now, I am convinced she’s the Anti-Christ.
Maddie wrote: “It would be horrible to have her emerge 8 years from now with greater sophistication. She’s awful, etc., but unfortunately no dummy.”
No offense, but I beg to differ. Palin is a total dummy. She is a prop for others who control what she dresses, says and does.
Will she be held accountable ever? I don’t know. We let the same type of behavior slide by for 8 years from Bush/Cheney. And I hold myself accountable as well, for letting the slide happen.
Incredible. I do not think she is delusional. She is a pathelogical liar. She really believes herself. And unfortunately she has people to back her up. The other problem is with our own culture. Does anyone truly listen to anyone anymore? If people were listening to what she is saying, they would not vote for her. But, people just believe what they want to. It is Americans who are in a total state of denial. Things are what they are….. NOT what they seem.
Perhaps she meant to say “maverick” not “rogue”.
Shout out to AKM!
Quoting from an LA Times story this morning 10/12, it seems that the ineptness of SP has spread to her attorneys:
In a biting response to the report compiled by investigator Stephen Branchflower for Alaska’s bipartisan Legislatative Council, Anchorage attorney Thomas Van Flein and his partners said the ethics law that Branchflower said had been violated was intended to address cases in which a public official had a financial interest, not merely a personal one.
“There is no accusation, no finding and no facts that money or financial gain to the governor was involved” in a July decision to replace Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, Van Flein said in a letter released late Friday.
The Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act stated that ‘each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.’ Palin’s attorneys did not return calls Saturday. End Excerpt
The Report — as SoCal Bob and others have pointed out — narrowed her problem to an ethics violation. It’s the behavior, stupid (play on “it’s the economy stupid”) for which there is no defense. Since she filed the ethics complaint against herself with the Personnel Board — looks like she will be enabling her own downfall.
I have no words for that.
Just re-posting this. I was last on the previous thread. This in response to Shoeho who asked about the rest of the world’s “take” on Obama.

Not acceptable, not in the least acceptable.
Why, pray tell, does the media simply roll over and take this garbage from her? You all know as well (as you know the sun comes up in the east and sets in the west), that NO OTHER POLITICIAN could ever in a million years get away with that crap. If it were Sen. Clinton pulling this, every media outlet on the planet would be roasting her in no time flat. The “But I’m a girl” excuse does not cut it with this woman or any other woman I know.
Man, sometimes I just want to slap her around with a wet smelly trout. (my apologies to any trout/trout lovers out there)
Lulu,
No offense, but I beg to differ. Palin is a total dummy. She is a prop for others who control what she dresses, says and does.
While I agree with this statement, I also believe her “future” will continue to be guaranteed because of it. Not one single intelligent Republican (and yes there are about 6 of them out there) believes for a second that those “in power” in the party have any intension of turning over control of their party or this country to her. They know she is being used to rally the “stupids” (by the way that’s their word not mine – although I agree) to get the fundamentalist right wingers to rally the church vote. As long as she is valuable to them for that they will continue to use her. Make no mistake – none this has reduced her support among that group. In this way, the Republicans are not putting the blame in free-fall of polls on Palin, they are blaming McCain for not pulling in the independents and losing the smart Republicans. This was a math game and it’s McCain who hasn’t been able to pull his numbers. Never mind that it is Palin who is scaring the sh** out of them.
Completely outrageous. It is simply amazing this woman is a candidate for vice president.

Its important to keep up the pressure and understand that the report is ‘just’ a finding.
Just keep repeating ‘ethical violation.’
It may take this and other ‘gates’ to bring her down… and even then some will not choose to believe what the evidence is pointing to…
From the Sunday London Times:
McCain tussles with Palin over whipping up a mob mentality
“Palin, 44, has led the character attacks on Obama in the belief that McCain may be throwing away the election and her chance of becoming vice-president. Her supporters think that if the Republican ticket loses on November 4, she should run for president in 2012.”

Grettings Muddies..
Gee, all sorts of stuff since i went to bed at 3 am..
The blatent, and blind vision Palin has is almost unbelievable. She clearly has no moral compass, and her focus is simply to win, even if it means lying to everyone about everything.
The McGrumpy campaign clearly knows what they bought in creating Sarah v 2.2, they created what they hoped would be some sort of Fountain of Youth for the McAncient campaign, instead this is what they ended up with: a vacuous, intellect-missing, Godless mass of cells made to look sort of human. They gave it legs and a clever option, (cost $1million) an eye that can wink, and a butt to wiggle. They bought it expensive clothes and a professional makeup artist, several versions of hair styles, depending on what their insane, crazies found the most alluring, so the uneducated lemmings who adore it can fantasize.
The problem is, as in A Space Odessy, their creation took over and attempted to destroy those who created it. Now, Sarah v2.2 is on the path of destruction as well. The entire mess McCain created was his own doing.. He went off, mixed some chemicals and built Sarah v2.2 and now he has to accept it’s consequences. Sarah v2.2 has built in survival skills and a nu-q-ler core, programmed to detonate if there is no option. Sarah v2.2 has started the self-destruct/mutual assured destruction clock. Stand back 1000 feet, for when it blows, it’s gonna be messy ya all.. wink wink.
Darn ……. the link is getting cut off ……. will try again but if it doesn’t work, just Google the headine.

Todd did what anyone would have done given this state trooper’s very, very troubling behavior and his dangerous threats against our family. Todd did what I think any Alaskan would do.
God help those three girls (Track is out of it, now) who have to be in daily contact with this woman, who’s captaining her own personal Titanic in Never Never Land. When the bubble bursts, and the Secret Service leaves, the Palin parents (and the Heath family) are going to have to serve to themselves and the kids industrial-size servings of the purple Kool-Aid on a daily basis in an attempt to keep reality at bay.
IMO, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and that house built by Todd and friends just might topple this whole house of cards. Without political support and Republican fair-weather friends, this mom-and-pop operation (which seemingly was built upon the backs of a fair portion of the Alaskan population) should come to a rapid end…and, without money, the First Dude won’t be racing or flying high.
IMO, the comments above could be parlayed, via an aggressive lawyer, into a fairly substantial lawsuit against the state of Alaska and the Palins personally.
I seem to recall reading that Stevens has expended more than a million dollars of his campaign funds in legal fees: Palin won’t have a slush fund like that and, under the present cloud, potential doners should consider her dead meat and decline to contribute to the miracle of her possible resurrection (but certain Wooten- and residence-related legal bills).
What do you expect? She’s a nut.
Second quote from same Times article”
“Sarah Palin is no fool. She sees the same thing and wants to salvage what she can. She is positioning herself for the future. Her best days could be in front of her. She wants to look as though she was the fighter, the person with the spunk who was out there taking it to the Democrats.”
OK Mudpies, it’s on! She’s dumping him!
Good morning, Alaska!

VOTE OBAMA-BIDEN. Enough is enough!
Those questions were really lame. What’s up with this one?
ADN: Governor, finding No.1 on the report was that you abused your power by violating state law. Do you think you did anything wrong at all in this Troopergate case?
What is she supposed to answer to that? They might as well just tell her to please explain why she’s really innocent!
An outstanding piece, as usual, AKM
Truly, Alice, er, Sarah, continues her descent down into the darkness of her own delusions, while Tweedledum aka McCain lurches about as though he has downed a potion….Meanwhile, our Cheshire Cat Barack just looks on and smiles !
Times article ends like this:
“In Wilmington, Palin’s many admirers were in no doubt that she should run for president next time. Nancy Ross, a hairdresser, 45, said if the Republicans lost the election, she would be cheered up by the thought of Palin as the 2012 nominee.
“I would absolutely love her to run in four years’ time. By then most of her kids will be grown,” she said. “I’d like her to run against Hillary [Clinton]. She would squash her. She is a real person and we need people like her in Washington.”
Mary Ann Black, 58, a human resources director, said: “I love her. She’s so authentic.” Although she thought highly of McCain as well, Black added: “Her career is just beginning and his is in the twilight.”
Thanks London …….
Is the infamous Palin-McCain rally payer in Iowa reallly below hidden code for “would some white supremacist idiot finally go ahead and behead Obama so Sarah Palin I mean God can pardon you and by the way our white Christian God will give you 144 virgins when you get to heaven?” … if McCain is sincere about putting “Country First” vs. just winning, he would resign today and unveil to the world that his running mate is half-devil mind, half-barracuda teeth.
“I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God — whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah — that his [McCain’s] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.
And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day.”
I think SP is going to be answering some hard questions asked by the people who brought down Al Capone… If not, well the Alaska legislature has demonstrated that they have the will to ask some hard questions themselves. And of course the inhabitants of the mudflats can see SP glass house and will be asking questions.
May you live in interesting times Gov.
Lulu thanks for your kind words — there is no way that person could ever hurt my feelings, I’m confident enough in myself as a woman and a human being with brain to not let insults get to me even if I was covered warts and hand hump back (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Troopergate Part 2: It’s Not Over Yet
From Newsweek Magazine – http://www.newsweek.com/id/163465
“We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board,” said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin “has nothing to hide,” it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss.”
What I really don’t understand is why McGrouchy would have ANYTHING to do with a state of Alaska matter. This is not a national, or political issue, it’s a dispute between the AK Gov and the AK Legislature. There is nothing in this dog and pony show that should involve McIdiots operatives. Yet, they stick their nose in and so far, it’s backfired fairly substantially.
some of you called the hockey-scene right!
on msnbc, just now, a man was explaining how Palin’s youngest dtr was dressed in a jersey to “mitigate” the expected bad reaction.
for you that were correct, i apologise for doubting, as a mom and grandma I just didn’t want to believe it I guess! But if her own campaign is admitting that her children are props (as in property to be used to one’s own advantage) who am I to argue.
there must be a special place in hell…
Can Alaskan’s do a recall on their Govenor?
For all your sakes, I sure hope so. Imagine how much more meaner and vindictive she will be having lost the election.

106-year-old voter chooses Obama
By David Willey
BBC News, Rome
A 106-year-old American nun living in a convent in Rome could well be the oldest person to vote in the 2008 US Presidential election.
Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who last voted for President Eisenhower in 1952, has registered to vote and says she will vote for Democrat Barack Obama.
Although hard of hearing, she keeps herself informed by reading newspapers and watching TV at the convent.
“I’m encouraged by Senator Obama,” she says.
“I’ve never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That’s the first thing. Then he must be able to govern,” she adds.
Sitting in her modest office in the convent where she has lived for the past 50 years, the diminutive nun appears uninterested in the row inside the American Catholic church over Senator Obama’s support for pro-choice policies on abortion.
Asked about her hopes for the US under an Obama presidency, she says: “Peace abroad. I don’t worry about the Iraq war because I can’t do anything about it. Lord knows how it will end.”
“It is very complicated,” she said. “Those Eastern people are not like we are.”
But despite taking part in the 4 November election, Sister Cecilia does not intend to return to the US.
“I have no plans for the future. I am too old to go back to the US. Life has changed too much.”
But she still watches “very important events” on TV. The election comes under this category.

Read the reader comments on this story at ADN. Aye-yi-yi. People still don’t get that this is about what she did (abuse her authority) and not why she did it (to supposedly protect her family). There was a time (think back to Nixon) when the population would have been outraged by such bold abuses and lies. Now we rationalize them or try to actually defend the perpetrator.
Any legal types on the forum? Is there any legal jeopardy in her publicly saying she was fully exonerated despite the findings of the report? Could she at least be made to cease and desist with the false statements?
Anyone know the makeup of the Personnel Board? Are these actual civil servants or are they the Govs lackies?
PJ you are right … there HAS to be a special place in hell for a mother like her! I have been questioning her parenting from the beginning. None of us are perfect moms, many of us do our best and our kids still screw up, but poor little Trig and Piper deserve better. She needs to stop dragging the little ones around the country to these large events. My grandson is exactly the same age as Trig, thankfully he doesn’t have special needs, but he freaks out every time someone coughs loudly. How are these large crowds and their noise affecting that sweet little boy? Ughhhhh….. I cannot stand this woman!
Another brilliant post, AKM!

Thank you for sharing your insights!
For those of you who continue to defend Palin on the basis that the “Troopergate” report does not find her guilty of breaking any laws, may I just say you are correct, but what it does find her guilty of is even worst. She is guilty of having shown no respect for the office she holds or the Alaskan people, by allowing her husband, Todd Palin, seemingly unlimited access to government employees to promote a personal vendetta and her reaction to the findings of the report are dismissive at best. Which speaks volumes about her character. It’s like Cheney in a dress and to even entertain the thought of her coming back and running for President in 2012 is a joke. That anyone still defends her at all is amazing to me.
Honestly, I don’t know how much Troopergate will effect this election, but I think it just may affect any hope she has as being president. Think of the crap that has come out about this women and would be thrown at her. The base”loves” her but they are dwindling and she has limited appeal with everyone else. Besides, she would actually have to give interviews and press conferences and I really do think she is quite stupid. She can get away with some of this stuff as vp, but I think she might be toast otherwise. She will probably run and we may never totally get rid of her, but I don’t see her winning. Shes the ultimate mean girl and by the time most of us escape high school, we are tired of mean girls. And Hilary would eat her alive….
The BBC has a 14-minute video titled, “Vote rigging and suppression”.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7658182.stm
How can the voting process in America be so complicated and so open to abuse? In Canada, everyone one who files an income tax return can, by ticking a box, opt to be included in the voters registry (most people, especially seniors and those with children, file tax returns in order to be plugged into various income-based subsidy programs).

the law states clearly, and its in the report, that any kind of personal (or familial ) benefit, with improper motivation, by action or inaction, constitutes an ethics violation.
Her families obsession with Wooten was far more well documented than her own. She is bound by law to act to prevent undue influence when she can act to prevent it.
The report concludes she knew about it and failed to correct it.
There does not seem to be enough evidence that she promoted the improper influence.
Maybe its in one of her many email accounts.
Her emails may be the ‘Nixon white house tapes’ of the 21st century.
if we can see them in time,I think the emails will be her downfall, for two reasons.
1: They will show that she was hiding official business,
2: the official business she was hiding was improper, possibly conspiring to fire Wooten or even Monegan, and who knows what else?
I smell maverick manure and pitbull bull shot.
From everything I’ve seen, her children are taking care of her newborn special needs baby. Nice parenting. Babies don’t need their moms. Easy to see why her kids are turning out so well.
Can you imagine what McCain / Palin’s own campaign would say if Obama had a juvenile delinquent son, an unwed teenage daughter, and if he virtually ignored his newborn Downs Syndrome baby to further his own career?
I am so over the War Hero and Brady Bunch Mom.

“The thing that really gripes my behind is that she is the darling of the religious fundies. When the “reality” for them is that lying is an acceptable means to an end, is it any wonder this stuff rolls off her tongue so easily?” SCDem

I truly believe that this election spells the death knell of Palin and the GOP. Things
have radically changed in this world.
From the Washington Times on Gen Y’ers:
The Reboot survey further found that Generation Y was “more liberal and progressive” than older generations, both in political leanings and on social issues such as homosexual “marriage” and immigration. Fifty-four percent of voters younger than 30 voted for Sen. John Kerry last year — the only age group the Democratic presidential candidate carried, the study noted.

Unless the GOP and fundamentalist Christians radically change, I see them going the way of the dinosaur, by way of Generations X and Y, with a lot of help from the elderly (like my Mom – 86 year old Obama supporter).

Thanks for the link to the Times of London. A couple of things occurred to me while reading the article: 1.) McCain intentionally hired Tucker Eskew, the hate monger who won Bush’s slime primary campaign in 2000 by inferring that McCain’s Bangladeshi adopted daughter was in fact his illegitimate black daughter. What did he think would happen when he unleashed a woman who is both ambitious, woefully under-educated and a known sympathizer with extremist right wing groups? It’s a little rich for him to be acting surprised about this. 2.) Is there anyone who didn’t see this coming? Her short political career is littered with the bodies of those who helped her achieve her goals. Coupled with her complete inability for introspection, she would believe her own press. She no doubt feels she is totally qualified to be president in 2012. The rabid right wing has a new darling and she will now be part of national politics for a long time. Thanks, John McCain.

If you think Obama is mediocre at best you are wrong read the following
Obama’s IQ The Highest Of Any President Ever.
The former Guidance Counselor of Obama’s private Hawaiian school supplied
The Washington Post with a certified copy of Obama’s Stanford-Banai IQ
Certification, one of which was taken in 1966 when he was a kindergardener
in Hawaii before moving to Indonesia, and one which taken as entrance
protocol as a freshman in his private Honolulu private highschool.
His IQ was clocked at 172 and 166 respectively (IQ’s normally have a
fluctuation of 6 or 7 points from test to test so that discrepency is
normal).
That puts Obama in the certifiable clinical genius category.
Obama’s campaign was not happy about The Washington Post preparing to
disclose the information, because they feared it would add to his
reputation as not an “everyman” and being too “elitist”.
lthough I agree that there are those who may see Obama’s IQ as further
proof that he must be “elitist,” I don’t understand their reasoning.
Like, Jon Stewart: I want a President who makes me feel like a blithering
idiot.
Unless those naysayers, who would proclaim, “See, he”s ‘elitist,’” have
come up with viable solutions – to myriad problems facing our nation . . .
it stands to reason that we *need* someone who can “OUT THINK” the rest of
us.
I say, “BRING HIM ON!”
Krystal (09:27:23) :
I wish that that were so, but look at McCain and the Keating Five thing, which was arguably worse. People forget this stuff and Palin’s spin machine is in overdrive. It would be nice if we could have a law that made it illegal for a person with a known ethics violation run for the top office in the land. Common sense would dictate that that should not be necessary, but look at where we are: The first ticket in history where both candidates have a known ethics violation before the election.

Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, was a fixture at governor’s office
The ‘first gentleman’ also read official correspondence and went to closed Cabinet meetings, records and an investigation indicate.
By Kim Murphy, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
October 12, 2008
Barely two weeks after Sarah Palin had been sworn in as Alaska’s governor, in December 2006, then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan’s executive secretary got a confusing phone call from Palin’s office: The first gentleman would like to schedule a meeting with her boss.
“I was not familiar with the term ‘first gentleman,’ or didn’t hear her correctly, so I kept asking her, ‘Who?’ ” the secretary, Cassandra Byrne, testified recently. “And she eventually said, ‘Todd Palin.’ ”
Obama makes four stops in Philadelphia McCain campaign sees Iowa as still in…Obama rides a wave of bad economic news
Lawyers for Sarah Palin say report is effort to ’smear’ her
The appointment was fixed, and Monegan arrived in the governor’s office to find himself alone with the brawny, popular fisherman and snowmobile champion, who was sitting at a 12-foot-long conference table, surrounded by stacks of documents. One of the documents had the logo and letterhead of Monegan’s own Department of Public Safety.
The subject, it turned out, was Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a messy divorce with the governor’s sister. The Palins, Todd made clear, wanted Wooten fired for a long record of behavior they saw as inappropriate for a police officer.
“He kept using the term ‘we.’ ‘We went to go talk to, we, we.’ And so I assumed it was he and Sarah, of course,” Monegan testified.
The meeting “made me a little uncomfortable,” he said. “We’re having it in the governor’s office, and he’s not the governor. I think he was trying to use state trappings to handle a personal issue.”
Todd Palin would become a familiar voice for the Palin administration. Independent legislative investigator Stephen Branchflower’s report on Monegan’s subsequent firing — in part, the investigation found, because he wouldn’t fire Wooten — contains an exhaustive record of Todd Palin’s frequent and intimate presence in the day-to-day workings of his wife’s administration.
Testimony compiled as part of the inquiry, and The Times’ own review of e-mail logs from the administration, show that Todd Palin was a fixture in the governor’s office, spending about half of his time there. He attended Cabinet meetings that are supposed to be closed to the public, and was copied on a wide variety of high-level government correspondence on issues such as contract negotiations with the police officers union, Alaska Native issues and the privatization of a dairy near the Palins’ hometown of Wasilla.
How is this allowed? She thought it was “take our daughters to work day” so instead she brings her husband? She has such great executive experience that she needs to bring her husband to meetings? If she had a real job, would she need to take her husband to work there, too?
[...] it’s found out that Sarah Palin did indeed abuse her power as governor. Not only does Palin flat-out deny the fact that she was ruled against, but she suspiciously stops talking about the issues, except [...]
I’m a little confused as to why McCain/Palin continues to be favored by Alaskans. As a previous Alaskan, I thought Alaska was full of intelligent people who recognize a delusional rogue when they see one. By the way, I submitted a note to Saturday Night Live and asked them to not have Palin on their show. She just doesn’t deserve that kind of exposure.
Excuse the duplication if previously posted
I have read several things about Senator Obama’s IQ too and what is even more interesting is that Palin’s has been estimated to be 110 and McCains around 130. The same report said Bush’s is only 98. I thought that sounded a little to me.
I have been reading Obama’s book, Dreams from My Father. He’s had an amazing life.

I pray that you are correct. Also, I don’t mean to imply that everyone who belongs to the fundamental religious groups “buys” this stuff either. I live in a heavily fundie community in the south and I actually get the impression that more and more of what might be considered the religious right here is actually embarrassed by this election. Unfortunately, I doubt they are embarrassed enough to vote for a Democrat
This election has made strange bedfellows of religious fundamentalists and racist hatemongers – the truly religious folks in town seem to deeply resent being lumped into it. Frankly, if I were a Republican, I would be pissed that this election has been hijacked by Palin and her crazy followers!
I did enjoy this comment from a timesonline reader:

As Churchill once said: The further backward you look, the further forward you’re likely to see. This is a MUST READ!
I’m not so sure. At the time this happened, Palin was gearing up a campaign against Wasilla Mayor Stein, that was comprised of the following basic elements:
– Eliminate the new Wasilla Police Department
– Do away with taxes, including the recent city sales tax
– John Stein’s wife is a Democrat
– John Stein’s wife has a different last name than Stein
– John Stein’s wife is a baby killer (pro-choice)
– John Stein might be Jewish

Tune in Thursday this might be fun
All is forgiven; McCain returning to Letterman
NEW YORK (AP) — David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.
The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman’s “Late Show” on Thursday.
It will be McCain’s 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.
Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.
At the time he said he first felt like a “patriot” to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but “now I’m feeling like an ugly date.”
A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign “felt this wasn’t a night for comedy.”
Palin believes her lies because she has to believe them. What does she have left if she has to face the truth? (The truth? You can’t handle the truth!) Nothing.
I do believe she’s stupid as well as ignorant but she possesses a kind of native cunning that is being exploited by the far right. I listened to part of the dust-up between Les Gara and Meg Stapleton, and what struck me is how strident, shrill, and desperate she sounds. Pitiful.
@Lady Rose, just tell them that looks fade, but sanity is somethirg to be treasured forever. And integrity. And intelligence. and intellectual curiosity. I don’t think she is pretty at all, and Tina Fey is twice the woman (and beautiful, too), but there’s no accounting for taste.

A friend of mine observed recently that this is either the last presidential election of the 20th century or the first one of the 21st century. I think the proof of that pudding will be in the waning influence of the mainstream media. If Obama wins, and it is increasingly looking as though he will, this will have been a 21st century election.
I’m only a sample of one, but I don’t watch tv news, nor do I read a print newspaper anymore. I occasionally listen to NPR, but I mostly get my news and information from other, electronic resources. And I’m OLD (55).
I work with young people, and my three children are all young voters. They are following the campaigns in a variety of ways (2 from overseas, thankfully not from war zones), but they also have very 21st century ways of getting their information. Blogs, such as our very own Mudflats, with their comments and links to a variety of articles and videos, are the (early) 21st century equivalent of network television and newspapers. Heck (you betcha), even the archetypal last century new source, the NYT, has blogs! It wasn’t so long ago that NYT wasn’t even included in ProQuest, a periodical database, but now it’s right in there using these newfangled technologies. (Pardon me for veering off into library-land, there.)
So, as we can see right here on this blog, it doesn’t even much matter when or if Brian Williams reports about Housegate or John Lewis’ remarks linking McCain’s rhetoric to George Wallace. The stories are already out there. We know about them. And we see to it that our friends, relatives and co-workers hear about them. A huge number of young people get their ‘news’ from Jon Stewart! That’s a very strange idea for some of us, including Jon himself, but Edward R. Murrow and his journalism are gone. The days of us receiving wisdom from some great journalistic patriarch are GONE. And to that I say, buh bye! Don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
The democratizing effect of the internets (intertube-thingies) has created this great opportunity to let our voices be heard and to elect our first 21st century (Dubya doesn’t count) President.
But mind– we have to remain vigilant that the internet isn’t bought up and locked down. There are plenty of Rupert Murdoch/Dick Cheney types who intend to do just that. And, imho, one of the first things we will need to address with our new Congress and President (besides the economic clusterf&*%) is the repeal of the Patriot Act. Unless you think it’s cool that NSA human drones are jacking off to your private phone calls and such.
Sorry if this seems off-topic. Just my 2 cents. (You know, I really miss the cents sign. When I learned to type it was Shift 2 or someplace on the left hand, wasn’t it? Where the @ is now?)
Many really conservative Christian groups do not support Palin–because they think women have no right to be leaders.
Gah.
just a small correction here. It is not “Stanford-Banai”
It is “Stanford BINET”
Just wanted to say thanks for all the good information coming from this web site. It makes me feel better reading thoughts that I already have and question. At least I know I am not alone. I was wondering if anyone read the report on CNN’ s site about how Palin mixes church and state. A lot of state money has been used sending her and the “dude” to various church rallies etc. CNN quoted her as saying, “As I’m doing my job, let’s strike this deal. Your job is going be to be out there, reaching the people — (the) hurting people — throughout Alaska,” she told students graduating from the church’s Masters Commission program. “We can work together to make sure God’s will be done here.” I think she forgot you can not mix state and church!
There are reports the state of Alaska paid for the expense of these trips along with paying for per diems. CNN reported, Palin and her family billed the state $3,022 for the cost of attending Christian gatherings exclusively, including visits to the Assembly of God and to the congregation they attend in Juneau, according to expense reports reviewed by the AP.
Does she really think this is appropriate use of state money?

“And integrity”
If I could capture the difference between the Obama/Biden ticket and the McCain/Palin ticket in one word it would be “integrity”. It really is the definition of Obama and it is above all else the thing I think every one of us would agree makes Palin look small and pathetic.
Has anyone else noticed the gallup poll steadily rising in McCain’s favor? It was 11 points, then 9 and today only 7 in favor of O’Biden. What’s that all about?…getting a little nervous.

You know having become so much more politically aware this presidential election, I don’t think I can willingly step inside another church.
I said this to my husband yesterday and he just looked at me and nodded his understanding. This from a former Baptist minister.

I’m in total agreement with you, wire hussein differently.
Our government needs to stop trying to scare the s**t out of us; people, who are not afraid of being called “soft on terrorism” need to step to the plate and demand that our civil liberties be restored, from the right to not having our phone calls listened in to, to the right to go through an airport without having to go through a virtual strip search or be felt up by………well, I wont’ say it just in case anyone of this board works for the TSA, one of the most disgraceful agencies ever foisted upon this country.
BTW, on the forum, there’s a report that the UK wants to listen in on every phone call and e-mail to and from the UK!

I think traditional media isn’t as important, either, as we move forward. I do agree that if there were no Fox News or that ilk, it would be harder to spread the hate.
I can’t wait for Hillary Clinton to really sink her teeth into Palin. She is the one person uniquely qualified to call out the Republicans on their ridiculous stance that if you don’t like Palin, you’re anti-feminist.
As for IQ testing, it’s pretty flawed, IMHO. I will say, though, that 100 is average, and I would guess Palin is right around there with McCain being slightly higher, but not that high.
I have a question.
I wondered if I was the only one that thought it was a little bizarre for McCain to demand that Obama repudiate Republican Lewis’ condemnation of McCain’s campaign and the racist tone.
Lewis is a Republican, why is it Obama’s responsibility to repudiate Lewis’ remarks? Other notables have made public comments on the tone of McCain’s campaign.
Is it because Lewis is Black? Does that make Obama responsible for Lewis’ comments by virtue of his race.
I would understand if Lewis was active in Obama’s campaign, or a Democrat.
Like Rachel says….someone…talk me down on this!

Sorry if I am repeating anything already said, no time to read all posts now, but she really threw Todd under the bus with her first few comments!
And if I were one of those journalists, I would report what my follow-up ????’s would have been, had I been allowed to ask them, be sure all knew why I would ask them, give what the possible conclusions could be that were NOT discussed at her demand, and that this issue was DEFINITELY NOT closed!
Okay, I have a question…I read an article today on McCain’s’ on the ground tactics in Virginia. They are telling their canvassing volunteers to compare him to osama bin laden (both have terrorist friends, blah, blah, blah), he won’t salute the flag and “we don’t even know where he was born.” So its all bs, but when has that ever stopped them before. I see trouble with this strategy but I want to see if you agree. If I am just vaguely following this stuff, don’t really care much, but someone tell me that the Presidential candidate is a terrorist, dontcha (wink, wink) think that they are going to look it up or more likely, have their kids look it up. I have goggled all these things and the top entries do a pretty good job of debunking these various strategies. So you read up and you have found, low and behold, that you have been basically lied to. How wil that go over with undecided voters? Mind you, some people will buy into the bs, but they have heard it before and are looking for it. They would have never voted for him in the first place. Only a purely political sense, I can understand the strategy: He is not one of us, he’s different, scary…but to quote Obama, “They are using a sledgehammer instead of a scalpel.” A more effective way to insight this fear would be to say he just makes me uncomfortable for some reason. He just hasn’t been around very long and he is very (gasp) liberal. I just, I don’t know. Instead, they are hitting people over the head with some really ludicrous things that defy reason and take 5 seconds to clear up. Its a google age after all, we google EVERYTHING! Just wondering your take on tactics like this….

Yours is truly a unique perspective and it makes me wonder. Why has organized religion taken such an active (perhaps obsessive) interest in politics over the last few elections? What is the real motive? What are they so afraid of? What do they really stand to gain that it is worth tearing the country apart, subjecting us to terrible leadership and shifting the focus away from governance issues? What is at the heart of this desperation?
JT,
Yes very bizarre but so is the whole McCain/Palin campaign. If we used that as a yard stick then Tucker Bounds should apologize to the Obama campaign everytime he opens his mouth!
Just out of curiosity, has anybody checked to see if she actually *recieved* a ‘degree’ in Journalism?? And any hint of her g.p.a.? Reading the transcript, it strikes me that she doesn’t even speak English .. altho’ I haven’t read anything she’s written.
She does write things, doesn’t she???
And for scdem’s (08:10:01) comment: Sarah Palin is *not* a Christian in the true sense of the word. She follows none of the principles of *true* Christianity and is, in fact, the exact opposite.
Her brand of ‘christianity’ is a ‘god’ that rules a cult. If you look at the definition of a cult, the evangelical group fits right in. Sarah, in her own mind (umm .. she has one, yes?) is not only doing *no* wrong, but is being totally guided by her ‘god.’ Well, I’m not sure that Rove isn’t first on the list, but for sure, he’s second. Does anybody not think that Rove is playing on the evangelical cultism to the fullest extent?
This brand of ‘christianity’ produces people who accept being manipulated and appear to have a much higher rate of being racist, bigoted, homophobic, extremist, and ‘holier than thou.’ And by the ‘rules of their faith,’ they have been charged with the job of taking over the rest of us and having us all conform to their rule.
I was on a website recently of an evangelical .. a chilling experience. He was saying how he had completed some ‘training’ on how to proselytize .. and that training included ‘fishing expeditions’ to test their skills. Yes, that’s what he called them .. ‘fishing expedtions.’ And he said these ventures were directed against the ‘lost.’
Hey, folks .. that’s *us!* The ‘lost.’
So Sarah will never see anything of what she’s doing .. her lack of honesty, ethics, morals .. you name it .. as wrong because she can’t. She’s always blindly ‘in the right.’ And now I’m wondering if that’s why she was picked since, given the mandate by her ‘god,’ she’d do as she was told/directed with an aura of absolute certainty. Rove is an evil man. You can guarantee McCain didn’t pick her.

I think it’s the George Wallace comparison. That’s certainly a chapter in American history that none of us wants repeated, and bringing it to mind in this election does seen counterproductive, given Sarah Palin’s posturing.

Expatriate votes

Obama told victory may depend on expat votes

BARACK Obama has been warned he may have to wait until 10 days after the presidential election before finding out if he has won, if the contest is close.
A memo sent to the Democratic candidate advises his campaign team to have lawyers on hand to contest the results in key swing states, where expatriate Americans voting abroad could be the difference between victory and defeat.
More than 3 million Americans living in Britain and other countries could hold the keys to the White House, according to the document written by a British Democratic adviser.
But in seven states, including four swing states that are expected to decide the winner, the votes of hundreds of thousands of Americans abroad will not even be counted before November 14, long after the rest of the votes are cast on November 4.
Although Senator Obama has a comfortable lead over Republican John McCain, there are more than a dozen swing states where a shift of just a few percentage points could put Senator McCain in the White House.
Steve Morgan, a strategist who advised former presidential candidates Al Gore and John Kerry on winning votes from Americans abroad, told The Sunday Telegraph: “Americans abroad are registering to vote in record numbers this year.
“There will be 200,000 to 300,000 voting in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan. In all those states, their votes won’t even be counted until November 14.”
Mr Morgan — who announced to the world’s press Mr Gore’s decision to concede the 2000 election, only to reverse the announcement 10 minutes later when it became clear that the result was too close to call — said his most important advice for the Obama camp in the event of a cliffhanger election was not to concede any state until all the votes had been counted.

My out-going representative, whose name I can’t remember, would respond, but toed the party (R) line all the way, “there’s a terrorist on every corner.”
BTW, having been more sick than well for the last two weeks, I lay in bed most of yesterday (when I wasn’t on Mudflats) and watched a Law and Order marathon last night – the writers lit into the Patriot Act, Homeland “Security”, the FBI, counterintelligence at every opportunity!
Have you also noticed how popular fiction writers, since about 2002, have mocked the TSA and DHS? I love it!

@JT, John Lewis is a Democrat. Even so, it’s hardly Obama’s job to rebuke him.
If it is, then McCain needs to rebuke Governor Keating for calling Obama a guy from the streets, etc. Hell, McCain would have to rebuke himself for all the character smearing he’s doing.

When I asked him years ago about that very issue his response was and still for the most part is, Churches anymore are no different than big corporations. For the ones at the top it is not about their belief in God it is the power, wealth and prestiege.
They keep the ground soldiers stirred up with rhetoric and in doing so have control and keep the coffers full.
I have to say I think his analysis is spot on as I watch the mega churches grow by the numbers.

Just catching up on my mud-reading. In the phone interview, Palin actually demonstrates the ability to tell us black is black AND white in the same soundbite. She tells us that the Branchflower report completely clears her of any legal (true) or ethical (false) wrongdoing, but then goes on to say it was the result of a political circus and hence, presumably, invalid at its core.
Thus she was “cleared” by a report she considers politicized and invalid.
Oh, and give Palin’s spin on the campaign’s use of the term “rogue” to characterize Walt M, it sounds like the word they were actually looking for was “maverick”.

Just took a quick scroll through the comments after reading AKM’s great post and listening to the article so apologies if I’m repeating anything that’s been said, but…
Thanks, drchill for putting this craziness in perspective: “hope in audacity.”
Problem is, that seems to be the republican motto – hope in audacity – say something often enough and even if untrue, it will stick. And it works, regardless of how crazy the claim is. The same people who believe that Obama “pals around w/ terrorists” will no doubt believe, along w/ Sarah, that she’s been cleared. For eight years, this has worked – the republicans convince 51% that black is white and vice versa, and that’s enough. The recent polls seem to indicate it won’t work this year – fingers crossed!
But for you Alaskans who have to face the day the Sarah returns as your full-time gov, there was a Florida politician on Face the Nation this morning who said his state basically couldn’t get enough of SP. Her crowds were huge and enthusiastic, and he wanted her to campaign there more. Heck, maybe Alaska can export her to Florida after Nov. 4
(Sorry Floridian mudpuppies, but Alaska has suffered enough, don’t you think?)

As an attorney, I beleive that the finding in the report that no laws were violated in the discharge probably has to do with shielding the state from any wrongful termination suits. This just means that he wasn’t fired for a prohibited reason such as race, sex, religion, national origin, disaiblity etc. Firing an at will employee is not illegal unless it is for a prohibited reason. Breaking the state ethics statute is a separate matter but does not make the firing illegal. There is some possibility that a suit could be pursued if the firing was in retaliation for the employee having refused to perform an illegal act, such as trying to discharge someone in violation of the union rules. However, the ethics violation still stands and I don’t know what can be done about that other than an impeachment proceeding or some type of censure.

…”There seems little doubt that Palin is still the darling of a huge section of red state America. But what works for the Republican base no longer works for the country as a whole.
Attack dogs do not win the middle ground, especially ones beset by scandal and smarting from the damning judgment of Alaska state investigator Steve Branchflower, who discovered that Todd, Palin’s husband, enjoyed extraordinary access to his wife’s closest advisers, despite being unelected and having no salaried state post. He then used that access to try to get Wooten fired, the report found. Palin was criticised for taking no action to rein in her husband and Branchflower concluded there was evidence that she participated in a campaign against Wooten.

Delusion
A delusion is commonly defined as a fixed false belief and is used in everyday language to describe a belief that is either false, fanciful or derived from deception. In psychiatry, the definition is necessarily more precise and implies that the belief is pathological (the result of an illness or illness process).

Then there is Republican Rep. Mark Souder of Indiana, who says he isn’t even sure “McCain can carry seven states.”

@Crust Scramble, I respectfully disagree. I think John Lewis said what had to be said. As a POC, I am very aware of what the stirrings on the right can accomplish, and it is very clear to me that Palin, at least, is akin to George Wallace.
It’s interesting because many (white) people have written about the heinous tactics, comparing them to the Third Reich, Rabin’s assassination, and Kennedy’s assassination (re: the scathing rhetoric that led up to each of the latter two), and I have heard no complaints about those comments by McCain. The minute a black man says something, then there is a problem.
It’s like the white commentaries scolding people of color for saying what Palin is doing is racist because they don’t deem it so. I’ve had people tell me something isn’t racist, and it’s usually a white male. I have had the same thoughts as John Lewis, and I can guarantee many other people of color have as well.
Lewis may be a democrat, but he was one of the three people McCain named as taking advice from in the interview with the religious bloke, can’t remember his name. How does he explain that?.
asianHusseingrrlMN, I agree with 100% on the Lewis issue. Mr. Lewis is a well respected civil right leader & when he talks both sides listen. He was right to bring the McHaters’ hate-mongering to the attention of the Nation!
Holy Crap Muddies..
I found this quote about McCain during a campaign stop, in 1992.. From Cliff Schechters book, The Real New McCain..
Enjoy:
Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain’s intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain’s hair and said, “You’re getting a little thin up there.” McCain’s face reddened, and he responded, “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.” McCain’s excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.
Crust Scramble,
I agree that the Wallace era is one we don’t want to repeat, but I saw Lindsey Graham feigning outrage on one of the Sunday shoes this morning, complaining how bringing Wallace into the equation was beyond the pale. I’m a northerner, so I admit I can’t fully appreciate what it was like in the south back then, but when I read reports of McCain rallies where people yell “terrorist” or “treason” or “kill him” it sends chills down my spine. If those comments go unchallenged, I’m afraid that a significant portion of this country will actually believe it – maybe not enough to elect McCain, but enough to keep up this red/blue divide after the election.
And in the category of hard to believe, but apparently true, absentee ballots in Troy, NY were sent out with the name “Barack Osama” listed as the presidential candidate. They’ve been recalled and destroyed, and I guess in this case if any get through, a vote for Osama will go to Obama. I think this was just human error…

The disconnect between evidence as we see it and their message as they wish to promote it, is pretty normal for American politics.
I suggest trying to spend the next 3 weeks on something practical.
Focus on converting votes of those who may be persuaded.
Saying “She’s crazy” – is unlikely to convince anyone to change their vote.

I am not a person of color but I had similar thoughts when hearing much of the rhetoric and I am sure I am not alone. I live in the south and I know racism well. I know the “language” of racism and it isn’t always as overt as many people would like to believe. I hear it every day and I hear it from people who think it is fine to share it with me because I’m not black. Regardless of my race I find it deeply offensive and when I tell people that, they usually reply: Why do you care, you aren’t black? They then usually go on to point out that they have black friends so they aren’t really racist. Drives me batsh** crazy!
Susie– I think the time has come for the Democrats in the Senate (including my own Patty Murray and Maria (I’m actually a Republican) Cantwell) to scoot out from underneath the bed, brush the dust bunnies off, and find the guts to restore our rights. We need to renew our efforts to hold them accountable.
Love it that prominent Republicans are backing off McCain– don’t want to get splattered when he explodes.
I’m pretty confident at this point, barring some awful October surprise, that it’s going to be a blowout in favor of Obama. But as I’ve said in an earlier thread, that’s only the beginning. As far as I’m concerned, Obama has not demonstrated much in the way of true liberalism. The ‘left’ has gone so far right they make Nixon look like a liberal. So, we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
Hope you’re feeling better. And now I am going to tear my stiff, cold fingers off the keyboard and go outside.

Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition: Sarah Palin’s Extremist Ties
by Plutonium Page
Sun Oct 12, 2008 at 10:02:28 AM PDT
It was only slightly over a month ago that America was swept up in the carefully orchestrated GOP storm known as Sarah Palin. On August 29, 2008, John McCain told Americans that Palin is tenacious, tough, and could handle the job of Vice President just fine. He praised her “grit”, “integrity”, and “good sense”. He said that:
“She is exactly who this country needs to help us fight the same old Washington politics of me first and country second,”
Indeed, “Country First” has become the official McCain campaign slogan. “USA! USA! USA!” is shouted by the frenzied, hate-filled, nationalistic crowds that gather to hear McCain and Palin speak.
What they don’t know about Palin is that her political career in Alaska was shaped by the ideology and support of fringe, anti-government, militia-organizing secessionists.
Here at dailyKos, we have but scratched the surface of Palin’s connection to the Alaska Independence Party (AIP). The big story that we suspected was there has finally been uncovered by Dave Neiwert and Max Blumenthal, who recently traveled to Wasilla, Alaska.
Neiwert laid the background for their AIP story in a September 22, 2008 article. Of note:
This morning I interviewed John Stein, the former Wasilla mayor who was defeated by Palin in 1996 by using “a quiet campaign by some Palin supporters raising emotional issues like abortion and gun control, which had no apparent tie to municipal politics” — and as Phil Munger notes, a whisper campaign that Stein was secretly Jewish (Stein is a Lutheran).
The connection revolves mostly around three men known to have far-right leanings in the community: a builder named Steven Stoll, a computer repairman named Mark Chryson, and a third man named Mike Christ. All three subscribed to a bellicose, “Patriot” movement brand of politics — far-right libertarianism with a John Birch streak.
According to Stein, Steven Stoll — whose local nickname, according to Phil Munger, is “Black Helicopter Steve” — was involved in militia organizing in Wasilla the 1990s, and subscribed to most of the movement’s paranoid conspiracy theories: “The rumor was that he had wrapped his guns in plastic and buried them in his yard so he could get them after the New World Order took over.”
The “black helicopter” concept “became popular in the United States militia movement, and in associated political circles, in the 1990s as an alleged symbol and warning sign of a conspiratorial totalitarian military takeover of part or all of the United States”. Timothy McVeigh, among others, was a firm believer.
Neiwert and Blumenthal followed up with a fantastic article published yesterday in Salon. If you weren’t already convinced that John McCain’s team had no idea what they were doing when they chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, you will be after reading this story.
Meet Sarah Palin’s best Alaska pals:
Though Chryson belongs to a fringe political party, one that advocates the secession of Alaska from the Union, and that organizes with other like-minded secessionist movements from Canada to the Deep South, he is not without peculiar influence in state politics, especially the rise of Sarah Palin. An obscure figure outside of Alaska, Chryson has been a political fixture in the hometown of the Republican vice-presidential nominee for over a decade. During the 1990s, when Chryson directed the AIP, he and another radical right-winger, Steve Stoll, played a quiet but pivotal role in electing Palin as mayor of Wasilla and shaping her political agenda afterward. Both Stoll and Chryson not only contributed to Palin’s campaign financially, they played major behind-the-scenes roles in the Palin camp before, during and after her victory.
Palin backed Chryson as he successfully advanced a host of anti-tax, pro-gun initiatives, including one that altered the state Constitution’s language to better facilitate the formation of anti-government militias. She joined in their vendetta against several local officials they disliked, and listened to their advice about hiring. She attempted to name Stoll, a John Birch Society activist known in the Mat-Su Valley as “Black Helicopter Steve,” to an empty Wasilla City Council seat. “Every time I showed up her door was open,” said Chryson. “And that policy continued when she became governor.”
So let’s get this straight. John McCain’s team chose someone whose political career was tightly interwoven with – and supported by – extremists. Not just average wingnuts. Extremists. Radicals. A secessionist and a paranoid militia organizer.
There is much, much more in the article, including a brief history of the AIP:
“The Alaskan Independence Party has got links to almost every independence-minded movement in the world,” Chryson exclaimed. “And Alaska is not the only place that’s about separation. There’s at least 30 different states that are talking about some type of separation from the United States.”
This has meant rubbing shoulders and forging alliances with outright white supremacists and far-right theocrats, particularly those who dominate the proceedings at such gatherings as the North American Secessionist conventions, which AIP delegates have attended in recent years.
The AIP has also had a long association with the Constitution Party, which has had a prominent role in a number of racist “patriot” (i.e. militia) movements.
Neiwert summarizes the article at his blog:
Essentially here’s what we found:
That Gov. Palin, when a Wasilla city council member, formed an alliance with some of the more radical far-right citizens in Wasilla and vicinity, particularly members of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party who were allied with local John Birch Society activists. These activists played an important role in her election as Wasilla mayor in 1996.
Once mayor, one of Mrs. Palin’s first acts was to attempt to appoint one of these extremists (a man named Steve Stoll) to her own seat on the city council. This was a man with a history of disrupting city council meetings with intimidating behavior. She was blocked by a single city council member.
Afterward, Mrs. Palin fired the city’s museum director at the behest of this faction.
She fomented an ultimately successful effort to derail a piece of local gun-control legislation which would simply have prohibited the open carry of firearms into schools, liquor stores, libraries, courthouses and the like. The people recruited to shout this ordinance down included these same figures, notably the local AIP representative (who became the AIP’s chairman that same year).
She remained associated politically with the local AIP/Birch faction throughout her tenure as mayor on other issues, particularly a successful effort to amend the Alaska Constitution to prohibit local governments from issuing any local gun-control ordinances.
In general, we found that not only did Mrs. Palin have numerous associations with these extremists, she actively sought to empower them locally and to enact their agendas both locally and on a state level.
We sent an e-mail to the McCain/Palin campaign asking for their reaction to these findings, and have so far received no response. If and when we do, we’ll update.
So, McCain’s cute lil’ sidekick, that all-American hockey mom, the “pitbull with lipstick” that the cable news networks just couldn’t get enough of for weeks, is actually so far removed from mainstream American politics and ideals that it’s impossible to imagine her ever handling the job for which she has been recruited.
She may inspire the fringe, and may be able to tell voters the best way to store their gold and guns when the black helicopters come, but she’s clearly the worst possible choice McCain could have made for his potential successor.

I thought that too at first, but I think we have been trained to think like that because of surprise evictions on American Idol. I would hope though this is more important than American Idol and people will show up. I think a lot of people understand also that the more votes, the more power he will have. Besides, either which way, their is a historic nature to this vote and most people won’t want to tell their very poor and Chinese enslaved grandchildren that they sat it out. That last part was a joke by the way. I think no matter who wins, humor is going to be the only thing that gets us through the next year or two.

Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition: Sarah Palin’s Extremist Ties
by Plutonium Page
Sun Oct 12, 2008 at 10:02:28 AM PDT
We may ID the perp through the one-way glass, but Sarah sees only the mirror wherein to admire herself. She is boxed in with only her reflections of the truth.
Actually, when you think about it, sometimes it is a compliment to be called a racist.
Some of the anti-Obama people say the most outrageous and fear mongering claims against Obama, that you have to assume that they have an extremely low IQ, or are a racist.
By calling them a racist, we are being gracious, and giving them the benefit of the doubt that they aren’t seriously mentally impaired.
Florida Republicans cast blame as McCain trails in polls
John McCain’s plunging poll numbers in Florida have top Republicans second-guessing and starting to distance themselves from the campaign.
For the first time in more than a decade, Florida Republicans are considering the almost unthinkable: Their presidential nominee could lose the state.

Sun. Oct 12 -
…”This nation has suffered through eight years of an ill-prepared and unblinkingly obstinate president. One who didn’t pause to think before he started a disastrous war of choice in Iraq. One who blithely looked the other way as Taliban and al-Qaida regrouped in Afghanistan. One who obstinately cut taxes and undercut all efforts at regulation, unleashing today’s profound economic crisis.”
And now, McCain has selected as a president-in waiting this hockey mom and female Joe Sixpack who appears to be an impossibility: a version of George W. Bush, who is even stupider than the real thing. “Not since Gaius Caesar Caligula appointed his horse to the Roman Senate has there been such a bonehead choice,” says blogger John de Groot.
If McCain wins, and his illness drives him from office, the horse will be not just a senator but the Empress of America, with supreme power to wreck the entire world.
Let us pray.

Can anyone here comment on Timothy Petumenos being hired and the independent counsel for the Personnel board investigation?
I think that is hysterical. He is a Democrat who donated money to her opponent in the last race. I think this is a really big FU from the Personnel board to Palin. I say good on them.
I don’t know how the Republicans are going to be able to spin this one. The Personnel Board was their pick.
Post ‘troopergate,’ Palin still popular in Alaska, just not as much

Many Alaska officials have come to the defense of Monegan, who grew up in a Native village near the Yupik Eskimo community of Bethel before launching a law-enforcement career in Anchorage, where he eventually served as police chief.
“I don’t want to get into a big political fight … but I cannot allow a fellow Alaska Native to have his reputation tarnished and used as a political football,” said Julie Kitka, president of the Alaska Federation of Natives, in a Sept. 27 opinion column in The Anchorage Daily News. “No one has done more to address the law enforcement needs of rural Alaska than Walt Monegan.”

“Send a donation to Obama 08″
I second that. The day after the VP debate I donated $500 in honor of SP. The day after the horrific “he’s a terrorist” and “kill him” comments were shouted at the McCain and Palin rallies, I sent in another $500 to help combat hate. Over the next month, I will donate the remainder of my maximum individual donation amount in support of hope. I encourage everyone here to donate if at all possible – even $10 or $20 can help, especially with the work that needs to be done to get out the vote in the swing states.
kimbers Chop Meth Palin (06:01:13) : Oh brother, that’s just so pathetically delusional, it almost (just almost) makes me feel sorry for her.
Kimbers, don’t feel sorry for her. She’s delusional in her religion, but she’s not politically delusional. She’s not intelligent, but she’s a smart politician. She knows full well that the report found her in violation of ethics laws.
She uses a tactic that works in brainwashing and in religion: Say what you want people to believe often enough, and they will believe it. It’s often, but not always, true in politics. Who was it that said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” Was that Winston Churchill?

I totally agree with what Congressman Lewis (D-Ga) said and I told him so.
I was answering why I thought Obama was distancing himself from the Congressman’s statements. It’s certainly not because Congressman Lewis is black.
Obama’s response:
“Sen. Obama does not believe that John McCain or his policy criticism is in any way comparable to George Wallace or his segregationist policies,” said the campaign statement. But wait! There’s more:
“John Lewis was right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric that John McCain himself personally rebuked just last night.”
But…….. bringing up the specter of George Wallace in the South (and I totally understand Congressman Lewis’ reasoning for doing so) is not a bandwagon, as
regards McCain/Palin, that most Democratic politicians would want to be associated with. And I do agree with you, asianHusseingrrlMN, “Palin, at least, is akin to George Wallace”, I just think it would really bite Obama if he agreed with that assessment.

McCain has written about Lewis in the past, praising his actions in Selma, Alabama, during the civil rights movement. The Republican nominee even said during a summer faith forum that Lewis was one of three men he would turn to for counsel as president.
I never knew this about McCain. You know it’s funny, I never really researched him before since I knew I wasn’t going to vote for him. My husband would say he didn’t like him but never really elaborated. He is a vile man, disturbed man. McCain, not my spouse. And I won’t even C&P that awful name he called his own wife.
I do not trust generally politicians who wink, say “cool,” and punctuate sentences with adolescent Britney Spears-esque filler statements such as “like.” The woman is an illiterate…except when it comes to reading Republican talking points off of cue cards. She is completely devoid of substance and awareness: the worst of all possible combinations when it comes to governance…then again, look who is running the country nowadays.
I say this: if the paranoid and xenophobic masses that keep showing up to McCain’s rallies are looking for a malleable and ignorant saviour, they have found it in Palin.
Saw a picture gag somewhere of McCain and G Gordon Liddy (don’t have the link, sorry) with the caption: ‘Because Batshit Crazy never goes out of style!’
Made me chuckle for hours.

the American public has been kicked in the teeth (metaphorically) for 8 or so years and regarded with such utter contempt, who wouldn’t feel that way?
I can’t help but feel the other shoe is going to drop, as well.
Gee. it’s sort of like being in a dysfunctional family with a batterer.

Republican leaders said Saturday that they were worried Mr. McCain was heading for defeat
“I think you’re seeing a turning point,” said Saul Anuzis, the Republican chairman in Michigan.
Tommy Thompson former Governor of Wisconsin was asked if he was happy with Mr. McCain’s campaign, Mr. Thompson replied, “No,” and he added, “I don’t know who is.”
Pennsylvania, Robert A. Gleason Jr., the state Republican chairman “I worry about the southeast. Obama is making inroads.”
Republican congressman from Minnesota, is melting down because of the McCain campaign has no direction.
Mr. Danforth a retired Republican senator from Missouri said. “This is a year where everything that could go in Obama’s favor is going in Obama’s favor,” he said. “Everything that could go against McCain is against him.
McCain said yesterday “I’d like to remind you that the political pundits have been wrong several times,” Mr. McCain said, “and they’re wrong because we will win the state of Iowa in November.”

No, “my friend”, you are so wrong, and Sarah Palin is deaf. You two represent hate and everything rotten in this country, oh I could go on here forever. Since my forefathers fought to create this country we love so much , You John McCain and Sarah Palin are the FIRST candidates for our highest office to both have Ethics Violations on your record. Congratulations on that. I will purchase that history book, skim through the index, to Past Republican Campaign Failures and you and your “friend” Sarah will be at the top of that list.
We are a hurting nation, a nation and world in need of hope & change. And everyone is joining a chorus of voices calling for new leadership, new direction, peace, laws and justice to return to our sacred land.

ps. Remember tomorrow is Indigenous Peoples Day, the new holiday replacing Columbus Day. A day for us to reflect on our Native American brothers and sisters who gave and continue to give so willingly, who’s food and grain sustained us, who’s Code Talkers brought decisive victory in WW2, and a people who sacrificed so much of their world for our’s. Far more than the raping thief Columbus.
DF: I’m a little confused as to why McCain/Palin continues to be favored by Alaskans. As a previous Alaskan, I thought Alaska was full of intelligent people who recognize a delusional rogue when they see one. By the way, I submitted a note to Saturday Night Live and asked them to not have Palin on their show. She just doesn’t deserve that kind of exposure.

@Laurie, I am right there with you. I think those thoughts every day, too. Just wanted to let you know that I didn’t see anything wrong with you sharing your fears.
@Dr. Chill, again, I respectfully disagree. I do think it’s important to do proactive things such as canvassing, donating money and time, but it’s also imporant to let go of the shit sometime. On a practical level, does it help to dissect Palin’s personality? Maybe not. However, it does help to better understand her in order to defeat her–and, frankly, just to let off some steam. We can do both.
Palin’s connection to the Alaska Independence Party (AIP).
MSNBC just said Sarah Palin is on her bus snaking her way up the Ohio river. They stopped at a Wal-Mart, she bought some diapers. LOL! Meanwhile, Biden and the Clintons are ready to hold a huge rally together for the first time.
Laurie (10:57:52) :
@regi…I didnt think there was anything wrong with Lewis’ remarks. He didnt liken Mccain to the other guy…cant remember his name…he likened his behavior to him. And he was right.
McCain has made a couple of feeble attempts to stop his supporters from saying things but lets face it…he was standing right in front of the old hag who said obama was an arab. He had no choice. Bet he didnt want to either. He also then added that obama was a good family man. As compared to arab men…who are not?
I’m willing to bet the farm that woman was a plant. I think everyone who asks McCain questions at his invitation only “town halls” are plants. She asked the question, thereby planting in people’s mind that Obama is an Arab, and then McCain, needing to tamp things down tells here she is wrong and gives very faint praise to Obama.
I really do wish that Obama had not turned down McCain on the town halls. He did it because McCain wouldn’t agree to an open, anyone can come version of town halls. Obama should have publicized that and challenged McCain to an open format. Obama does really well in that format and McCain doesn’t when he can’t get his questions from his plants (like at the “debate”)

Lock Pepper Palin
Along the lines of “That One!” aka Dal’ comment, Presidential elections – even “Land Slides” tend to be close (at least recently) when it comes to the popular vote. I think most pollsters believe that the final count will only be a few percentage points. I hope to see a bigger mandate – but I would not be surprised to see it closer than seems to make sense.
Over the last 40 years, the Presidency has been owned by the republicans other than Carter and Clinoton – and don’t forget that Clinton got in because Ross Perot was there and Ford’s pardoning of Nixon made a lot of people mad which helped Carter get in. My point being that there are a lot of republicans out there who made their mind up before they knew who the Democratic candidate would be. Mind you, the negativity of the McCain Palin Campaign is impacting some of these to move toward Obama – but really only the “Educated Elites” who now realize with Sarah Palin on Board, they are no longer welcome in the republican party (They have a little problem with such a low IQ working on solving the most complex problems in the world). But the “Joe Six Packs” (Whoever that is) will never change – Logic and debate mean nothing to them. They will grasp any soundbite that trashes the democrat. They would still vote for John McCain if he died before the election.
So I hope to see a double digit victory, but in the end, I believe it will be close – which is why a strong ground game on Election day is so important. I’d rather see people think it is close on election day and make every effort to get to the poll then think it is a blow-out and their vote is not needed.
Have faith… Polling is not an exact science – but all the non-poll indicators seem to be showing that public opinion is moving toward Obama. I just hope that the McCain Campaign does not whip up so much hatred that governing becomes difficult… Because in the end, you have to govern everyone.
The “black helicopter” concept “became popular in the United States militia movement, and in associated political circles, in the 1990s as an alleged symbol and warning sign of a conspiratorial totalitarian military takeover of part or all of the United States”. Oh AKM, I have one for you! I couldn’t sleep last night and was digging around and found something you are going to love.
Okay, some context. Palin’s most frequent sound byte is that she took on her own party, exposed corruption by a fellow Republican, etc. I was curious about the circumstances of it and did some independent research.
Palin ran for lieutenant governor in 2002 and lost, albeit not by much. Then-governor Murkowski appointed her to an – wait for it – ethics seat on the state oil and energy board. She got wind that another member of the board – Randy Ruedrich (then and now, the head of the state Republican party), was doing Republican business of the Board’s computers and on Board time.
She complained to Murkowski (then the governor) and shortly thereafter, Ruedrick resigned and the governor’s office started some kind of investigation. Palin was upset because she wasn’t being apprised of the status and developments and was concerned that she would be seen as part of the coverup. Also, gosh darn it, wasn’t she the ethics person on the Board?
Your money quote – verbatim:
Palin said that either the state should take over the investigation from her and publicly declare she was under orders to be silent, or that she be allowed “to handle this issue the way I deem is most appropriate.” Given her choice, she wrote, she would have the state hire an independent investigator. And if her letter went ignored, she threatened, “I will take such further action as I deem appropriate to protect my reputation with regard to this unfortunate matter.”
(Another great quote from the article? “French [that would be Hollis French, who managed the Legislative Council's investigation of Palin] said he came to respect Palin and got to know her as she attempted to bring forward the facts of the case.”)
She resigned about a week after giving this quote.
Ruedrich? Oh, he paid a fine for violating the EXACT SAME STATUTE Palin was found to have violated. Also, he didn’t have a financial stake in his “conflict of interest and abuse of power.” Just, like our girl Palin, a personal/professional one.
Marty in Fairfax, how do you manage to click around so fast?! I can’t seem to keep up with the board, much less look up other stuff.
The MSM keep avoiding the fact that McMean was unfaithful to 1st wife with 2nd wife, and to this day must pay 1st wife’s medical bills, as a condition of his divorce! It is widely believed he dumped her due to her disfigurment from accident while he was POW. She is always gracious when asked about it saying McMean just didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to act like 25!
I’m gonna try this again.
