Alaska politics is making strange bedfellows these days. Last week Wasilla conservative Republican, and Alaska State Senate President Lyda Green spoke with KUDO, the progressive talk radio station. Green was one of Palin’s mentors at the beginning of her career. But years went by, and the two began to disagree. There were power-plays, and barbs thrown. Palin appeared on a conservative radio program in which the DJ said he was going to say what Palin couldn’t about Green. “She’s a B**ch!” Response from Palin? Giggling. “She’s a cancer!” More giggling. And yes, Lyda Green is a cancer survivor. Eventually, Green decided that she no longer could work for the Legislature while Palin was governor. Her constituents were rabidly pro-Palin and the writing was on the wall. So Green announced she would not be running for re-election in November. This was big news when it happened, back in the day when we weren’t in the national spotlight.
So Lyda Green, who was intensely disliked by the Democratic Party (although they never called her names on the air) made an I-have-nothing-to-lose appearance on KUDO. She came right out and said that the investigation should and would proceed, and that nothing had changed. We were seeking the truth when it all started, and we still are. What followed were calls of praise and admiration from the very ‘blue’ listening audience…. It was like something out of the Twilight Zone.
Now from the progressive community who normally wants to see his head on a pike,there’s another uber-conservative pundit who is engendering praise – Dan Fagan. Dan Fagan is a notorious right wing radio talking head, turned columnist in the Anchorage Daily News. The ADN is frequently criticized by the vast right-wing community in Anchorage as being a “socialist rag”. So they hired Dan Fagan, and now they can say “Well, what about Dan Fagan??” and cross their arms. Fagan frequently talks in matter-of-fact terms about “liberal bias” in the media, and now he has a “liberal media” nest in which to comfortably perch, and continue to do just that. And anyone unfortunate enough to walk under the nest will likely have a ‘deposit’ land on their head.
But there is one thing that Dan Fagan is not at the moment, and that is a Palin fan. If you’ll recall the emails from Sarah Palin’s hacked Yahoo! account that made it on the web, there was an exchange between Palin and her Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, bemoaning Fagan’s treatment of Parnell (a congressional candidate at the time) during his appearance as a guest on Fagan’s radio show. In Palin’s email response, she said,
“His fighting you reveals some evil stuff going on with him. Does he want someone OPPOSED to the life issue in Congress?”
“Evil?” Zounds! Fagan’s been called a lot of names, but I don’t think he’s ever been called ‘evil’. And, do we infer that Palin thinks that everyone out there who believes in reproductive choice has “evil stuff going on” with them?
This brings us to today. Fagan has come out with an interesting opinion piece in the Anchorage Daily News. Here’s a bit of what he had to say:
The real damage to Palin from Troopergate comes with an injury claim involving trooper Wooten when he hurt his back while in the line of duty.
Independent investigator Steve Branchflower testified recently he believes someone in the governor’s office tried to block Wooten’s workers’ compensation injury benefits.
Harbor Adjustment Services, the company hired by the state to process, evaluate and decide on workers’ benefit claims, had great financial incentive in bowing to pressure from the governor to deny Wooten’s injury claim.
Obviously, the state is Harbor Adjustment Services’ largest client. The owner of the company denies the governor’s office pressured her to deny Wooten’s benefits. Why wouldn’t she? Ratting out the governor could cost her the lucrative state contract.
But Branchflower says an employee with Harbor Adjustment Services contradicts the owner and has testified the governor’s office did apply pressure to deny Wooten his benefits.
Branchflower says the unnamed employee testified, “I don’t, you know, care if it’s the president who wants the claim denied. I’m not going to deny it unless I have the medical evidence to do that,”
We know the governor’s office was very interested in Wooten. Dianne Kiesel, a state employee with the Department of Administration, tells me former Palin chief of staff Mike Tibbles instructed her to walk Wooten’s personnel file over to the governor’s office.
And there is the governor’s aide, Frank Bailey, caught on tape admitting he has information that came from Wooten’s workers’ comp file.
The very file that includes pictures, taken by none other than Todd Palin, of Wooten riding a snowmachine trying to prove the trooper was not injured.
Here’s why this is all so damaging to the governor. It’s one thing to try to get a trooper fired because you believe he is a danger to the public. But using your considerable power as governor to block the benefits of a former family member you have a long-running dispute with moves this scandal into a new realm.
It becomes about one thing and one thing only, revenge. Not public good, but settling a score.
Fagan is correct in that this angle on Troopergate hasn’t been explored deeply. We get hung up on tasers, and ex-wives, and affairs, and ‘rogue cops’, but the thing that may stick, is Palin’s tampering with the worker’s compensation claim. With Al Capone, it was tax evasion…you just never know.
It was only a week or so ago that the unnamed employee from Harbor Adjustment Services came out with her information to investigator Stephen Branchflower’s “tip line”. And it has also only recently been revealed that part of the file includes photos of Wooten on a snowmachine, taken by Todd Palin while he was out collecting evidence to use against Wooten. Yes, at one point our “First Dude” Todd Palin was following Mike Wooten around to ‘get something’ on him.
John Cyr, the head of the PSEA (the Troopers’ union), who was interviewed extensively on Anchorage’s KUDO radio says that if those 1100 emails the Palin administration is withholding (claiming executive privilege) were released, they would show that Palin had used her office to keep tabs on Wooten. Cyr, who filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the documents was told it would cost $88,000 to fulfill his request. “That seems a little steep,” said Cyr, “and suspicious.”
19 days and counting until special investigator Stephen Branchflower’s report on his findings in this investigation.
Sorry, just really wanted to get here first…
I was reviewing the State of Alaska’s website, and it is very helpful to Alaskans. It gives pretty clear information, and even directions on how to accomplish certain things…
SUCH AS LAUNCHING A RECALL.
Really, how much can Alaskans be expected to take from Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, who was not elected but seems to consider himself a co-Governor?
Thanks for the update AKM. Kudos to them going ahead with the report. I would be so furious to have my state run by the McCain campaign. These voices must be heard.
Are we ever going to see the real story behind Troopergate? Here from South Africa, I certainly hope so.. Thanks AKM from Africa for what you’re doing for democracy.
We need to get this out to the MSM-BINGO
A few clicks on a computer costs 88,000 ???? I want that job………sounds like a load of MOOSESHIT.!!!!!!
How is our friend – Anne Kilkenny – whose brave voice led me and many others to Mudflats? I hope she is doing well.
Does anyone in Alaska have a sense of what the October 10 report might contain? Is there any chance it will be damaging to Palin considering they have hit such a brick wall re: witnesses testifying? Or will it just be inconclusive?
Yes. In my opinion there is a definite chance it could be damaging. AKM
It’s not who supports you on the way up; it’s who you step on and try to crush that comes back to bite you.
It will probably be inconclusive – isn’t that how it always turns out when there’s a massive cover up and no cooperation from the parties involved? Thus, I am skeptical!!
Go here and get your Palin Name (many have already started using theirs to post comments)
http://politsk.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah_13.html
Then Go here and order Obama buttons for yourself and your family & friends
http://www.democraticstuff.com/2008-Presidential-Candidate-Buttons-s/230.htm
(The only one I didn’t see was Polar Bears for Obama, oh, how ‘bout “Bridges to Nowhere for Obama”)
On the right side, you can even select your state and get state-specific buttons.
Order soon, they are getting swamped
Pray or Prey
1st: Thank you AkMuckraker. For livin’ in the mud – you’ve got remarkable clarity.
2nd: A question: Does Palin naturally gravitate to the hunt? Is politics a big-game sport for her? Have there been periods where she hasn’t been looking to bag something or someone? OK – a few questions – but they’re all asking the same thing.
This question came up because I was looking through Ray Troll’s website (a fantastic Alaskan artist – http://www.trollart.com). He’s got a tee-shirt with a family of bears going after a hiker with the phrase “A Family that Preys Together Stays Together.” It got me wondering if Palin may be as predisposed to prey as she is to pray.
Wow AKM, TY for collecting this information for us. We are especially grateful for your gift of telling the story so we understand it. You are wonderful at laying out the history, the players etc. without totally losing me. Lot to digest. Lot of bad baggage with the first family of AK
RECALL! RECALL! Strange bedfellows indeed – Dan Fagan? He hasn’t been a fan of hers – but my god – it is time to act – RECALL! I’m headed to the state website.
WOW! This story gets more interesting all the time. I hope that all these happenings in Alaska ( along with all of McCains gaffes in the last week), will put both Palin and McCain off their game for the debates.
I’m still waiting for Troopergate to really hit the European press. Should be interesting when it does, as I think Europe is feeling pretty anti-Palin anyway.
Criticism of the choice of world leaders she’ll be meeting (no European ones):

Holy crap, who else is watching CNN?!
John Cyr should open up a Paypal account specifically for anyone interested in donating a couple of bucks towards that ridiculous $88,000.00.
I’m not rich but I’d contribute.
It would only take 8800 of us to reach that amount at $10.00 a pop.
If it never got spent, it could all be refunded to the donors.
Tony Alamo is insane!
I just emailed the governor’s office asking for info on how to start a recall – i couldn’t find it easily. Am I naive in thinking we live in a democracy?
As an HR Manager I can tell you that Worker’s Comp claims, by law, are not part of a personnel file. An employee’s manager has a right to review the employee’s personnel file but their WC file. That state employee that “walked” the personnel file and the WC file over to the governor’s office broke the law. If the state of Alaska is combining WC files with employee’s personnel files, the state is breaking the law. It is called a breach of confidentiality. Most employer’s keep even benefit election/selection documents separate from personnel files.
WC is rife with fraud but there are mechanisms and procedures in place to blow the whistle if you believe an employee has committed WC fraud. An employer perusing an employee’s WC file is not one of them. Trooper Wooten could sue the state for breaching his confidentiality. I would want to know what other employee files the governor’s office has requested.
88K for emails? Wow!
Working the Refs:
The McCain Campaign has launched a new all out attach on the New York Times – A newspaper that has had the audacity to investigate and report on their their Lies and their VP pick who is unwilling to talk to anyone.
If you don’t have a game to bring, then work the Refs -The McCain campaign really has this down pat.
They can’t figure out why anyone would want to investigate their vice presidential candidate who is under an gag order from the campaign to prevent her from saying something that exposes the the outrageously poor political decision the campaign made in selecting her.
They can’t figure out why anyone should call them out on their lies.
They can’t figure out why anyone should call them out on all the bluster that has defined their response to every critical event over the last two months.
My Advice, if you want to be president, act presidential – act as though you care at least as much about America and the American People as you care about your own ego – Stop this “Win at any Cost” mentality.
As a country, we are “lucky” to have (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) George Bush at the reigns with his steady hand during this time of crisis. This is not an endorsement of Bush, but rather a recognition of just how crazy the John McCain campaign has become.
Imagine if over the past month we would have had John McCain – Or worse yet, Governor Palin (who mantra is I will not blink when faced with any issue, regardless of how little I know about it) and the First Dood out there in charge…. Yikes!!!!
HOLY MOLEY!!! Time for us to put our boots on again because this is now at the waste deep level!!
Sorry – that should read “An employee’s manager has a right to review the employee’s personnel file but NOT their WC file.”
wow, unbelievable i definitely cannot wait until we get the report.
decoy what is happening on cnn?
Why won’t Palin ever give a Press Conference?
Why is Palin stonewalling the Troopergate investigation?
Why won’t Palin release her Tax Returns and Medical Records?
What is Sarah Palin covering up? WHAT IS SARAH PALIN HIDING?!
Where is her “Reform, Accountability and Transparency in Government” she keeps talking about?
Palin & her first dude are Dick Cheney all wrapped in a bundle. They’re mean, vindictive, self righteous, hypocrites & most of all dangerous. These people give REAL Christians a bad name. Please Please Alaskans stay on this, demand the truth, demand justice, & protest the McCain lawyers “take over” & cover up. I am praying God helps you. I want my country back, I want my constitution back, & I want my son in the military to live to be 72!
That is incredible! Thanks AKM!
I’m watching now Ky.
Arrgh.
Those emails must be pretty long for that kind of cost – they are talking about the cost for copying, etc. I think the State charges 50 cents a page.
I am ready to send in my $10 so tell Cyr he’s got $20 so far!
Oh, so this is the Government business that Todd Palin was doing that justified all the per diems he collected!!!
I’m afraid that Troopergate won’t do much to change people’s minds about Palin. It might just confirm the hockey mom maverick image for some people… I noticed in the Gibson interview and mentioned in one of my own (which by the way I stole one of your Palin rally photos for) that Palin is trying to have it both ways… claiming she didn’t ask for the guy to be fired and also saying he was a bad cop anyway.
I hope your work will show what Troopergate really teaches us, just how similar Palin is to the Bush administration in attempting to undermine investigations into their activities and eliminating the rule of law.
Congratulations on the popularity of the blog. I admire your optimism in thinking Palin is going to be bad for McCain, because I’m not so sure that’s the case, but so many people being interested in what you’re doing here makes me think this strategic move may fall flat thanks to your efforts to expose it for what it is. Thanks for your hard work.

Who the hell is Sarah Palin? The rest of don’t know and I don’t think Alaskans know either!!!!
That Tony Alamo guy that was arrested for child molestation (he runs some sort of church) is on. I can’t even explain all the crap that he was spewing. Um..saying the bible states you can start having sex with girls once they hit puberty. Yeah. He backtracked near the end, but I still feel disgusted. He was really rude to the reporter, too.
Blech!
ok i like kimbers idea. let’s start a fundraiser. can it be done, is it legal for us to raise the $ ?
While I assume $88,000 is outrageous, how difficult woudl it be to raise $88,000. Well, might be a little difficult unless we get a big donor. Would newspapers have that much money for a story? Hmmm.
But what about if $10,000 was raised. Call their bluff – they didn’t claim privilege, they claimed administrative expense. If $10,000 was raised, I wonder if one or two folks with substantial resources would supply more in the name of honesty, political fairness. I wonder if the governor’s office would still claim the $88,000 needs to be raised. I would think that the governor might not want the PR problem of insisting on $88,000 for emails. It might not make big news if it never happens, but suppose it did.
And if the $10,000 doesn’t do it, it could be donated to charity – something non-controversial. Maybe for rape kits for Wasilla?
BTW, $88,000 sounds like some kind of formula. Anyone know what it is.

OMG, how horrible was that?! I’m so scared, now. There are more people out there, just like him. I’m walking my daughter to school until she’s through college.
AKM – Thanks again for helping us “wipe the lipstick off that pitbull!”
With Al Capone, it was tax evasion…you just never know.
LOVE IT!
oops, big link mistake up there, sorry about that
Sorry to change the subject back to the rape kit issue, but someone on the previous thread pointed out that all the left have to do is to wait for the right to shoot themselves in the foot. McPalin’s campaign have done that – again – as they are claiming she was unaware that Wasilla charged the victim, which rather begs the question – how could she not know???
To quote from CNN’s article “It’s incomprehensible to me that this could be a rogue police chief and not a policy decision. It lasted too long and it was too high-profile”
I love the comments at the end, and this seems to have been the final straw for some:
“Palin was mayor of the town and had no idea this was going on? If Palin obviously can’t take care of a small town how can she take care of an entire country? I have been on the fence the entire time on who to vote for, but I don’t think I can vote for Palin. There is no excuse for her not knowing this was happening in her own town.”
i think it would get a message out the the american people want to know who this lady is if we started a fundraiser. someone in the MSM would pick it up. and yes, i think a big donor would come in too if we raised say $10, 000
following Dooode’s logic — those 500 miles he rode the snowmachine with a broken arm must mean his arm was not really broken?
i am actually a bit tickled that i had already read the ADN this morning (hahahaha). what is wrong with the world??? i don’t even read my own state newspaper.
going back to OBAMAsign watch duty….. still HARD rock palin
This church is one of the fundamentalist types Palin belong to? Just askin?
@ Lori
Thanks for your incite on this. It sounds like a lot will eventually come of this — I hope it happens in time to save us from this couple.
Alex,
You are correct in that Troopergate will not change the minds of her base supporters, but it can change the minds of those sitting on the fence, like independant voters.

When Branchflower finishes the report on 10-10, will it be made public, or held until the Alaska legislature reconvenes?
TROLL ALERT
Posts such as the one by poster Greg are a great example of a hibernating troll popping up to take a public crap on this site.
Ms. AKM, tear down that troll!
Done! And all of you, please feel free to email me when you spot one! I don’t mind respectful disagreement, but spent last night troll hunting…. grr. The more eyes out for trolls the better!

Nonono! Sorry I should have clarified! I believe he actually runs his own church.
troopergate, the rape kits, supporting hunting from airplanes, and bounties on wolves these will all change the fence sitters. definitely
You know, I really believe that our illustrious governor thinks she can do anything she damn well pleases, because after all, she’s the “top dog” (Pit Bull)and no one would dare question her! Sneaking into someone’s personnel file is pretty darn low, and pretty darn illegal! How would you feel if state authorities were looking into your personnel file without your permission or even your knowledge?! I’d be madder than hell!

yes do not click on greg’s post about obama as a pimp. c’mon that is absurd
I have an awful lot of respect for the little people in Alaska whose hearts and courage led them to stand up and tell the truth about the Wooten matter.
I’m presuming that in Alaska it’s quite difficult to obtain year-round employment with a decent rate of pay and good benefits; risking that takes mighty big cajones, especially when Sarah Palin’s record for vindictiveness
must be common knowledge within the civil service and the community.
Thank you, Alaskans.
Mudflatters,
that bill can not go through as presented. It cold be devastating on the american people. Paulson is trying to keep his a$$ from going under. I bet he has wall street in his back pocket somehow. It is just shameful out government is willing to sell us out for wall street.
What are the chances of Alaska going to Obama/Biden on Nov. 4th?
My take? Unlikely, but not impossible. Much will depend on what happens between now and then. AKM

CALL ME PARANOID, you wouldn’t be the first to do so, but I already think federal authorities are rifling through ALL of my personal and personnel files at will…and they have made it legal to do so under the Patriot Act!

A Brit abroad aka Flag Cobra (11:54:30)
I totally agree! This was a major story in 2000! I remember my grandmother talking to me about it, and being disgusted that anyone would charge a victim for the investigation.
For me, this ONE issue includes everything wrong with how Palin runs things.
She fired the police chief, and hired a new one of her own.
She was not standing up for victim’s/women’s rights.
The kit included a contraceptive, which Palin does not believe in, because of her religious views.
She claims to be a fiscal reformer, but she cut a much needed service, not something frivolous like, oh….a sports arena.
I know there are more, but my head is starting to spin!
So is she still holding that 80% approval rating in Alaska?
I’m curious about that and if the events of the last few weeks have
changed the local opinion at all??
Anyone know the answer to this?
Do Not Feed The Troll
For the first time in my life on Friday, I went home and told my husband, “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with everything Dan Fagan is saying.” Go Dan!
I just posted about the Worker’s Comp issue on my site. The ADN says the name of the former employee who is speaking out is Johanna Grasso. At least someone’s telling the truth.
Anyone know the difference between a recall and an impeachment?
It seems to me if you have a ex brother-inlaw who is employed and healthy therefore, he can pay child support for his kids. This is better for everyone (even if he is a pig), so I think destroying him would not be in the best interest of his family. Her logic shows she is vindictive.
Well, I just sent an email to Mr Cyr with my suggestion. At the very least, he knows that there’s a whole lot of us everywhere who want to help.

Cynthia,
Thanks for the heads-up. I have a lot of respect for Webb. When Obama’s president, I hope he takes a long look at Jim Webb’s strategies for how our military might best be used.
Palin can’t even take care of her family.
This site may have been posted before, but there are so many posts to read I can’t always keep up!! (A good thing!!). Anyway, this is a very comprehensive compilation of SP issues and videos. The site invites submissions of other relevant info.

Ky Fork – I don’t want to pick holes in what you say (because I fundamentally agree with you), but I just can’t find anything to back up the Palin being anti-contraception thing… if someone can find something definite about it I’d be grateful. I know she opposed sex ed, which may have the same results as opposing contraception, but it’s not quite the same thing…
Why do I have Monty Python’s Every Sperm is Sacred running through my brain right now…??? Can’t be healthy.
I would contribute to that.
I did find one ref to a statement about Palin’s anti/pro contraception chance that was linked to an ADN article… which is now missing…
A Brit abroad,
Oh yes, she is definitely anti-contraception. That is part of her platform. That’s ONE of the reasons she has the Catholic vote, and is also why she is getting beat down about her teenage daughter’s pregnancy.
Alaska’s Troopergates Strange Bedfellows…
Troopergate……
A while back someone posted here, I think, a picture of Sarah Palin’s parents in their living room surrounded by what must be hundreds of skins, trophies, antlers, skulls, and other bits of dead animals. Does anyone have a link to that picture? It seems to me that Palin’s bloodlust — including her advocacy of aerial wolf hunting and a bounty paid by cutting off their paws — would do more to quash her popularity with “ordinary” people than most any other issue. You don’t need to be anti-hunting to be repulsed by the kill-kill-kill mentality of the Palin tribe.
I think her stance has been really wishy-washy. Also, I get the feeling the pill is the “morning after” pill, which might walk a fine line for her. Sorry, I am not articulating well, today. : ( I stayed up too late last night watching that damn sign!
AKMuckraker: Thank you for your diligence, not to mention the surge of bandwidth and information you and your fellow bloggers there up north have supplied to us here in the lower 48. This Republican dynasty and it’s corrupt adminstration must be stopped at all costs to ensure the freedom of blue & red alike.
A state Senator from Ak was on Rachel Maddow and he said Branchflower- another much regarded, yet seemingly blindsidedly reviled by the McPalin campaign- had already gotten sworn statements regrdless of whether or not the Usual Suspects were going to testify.
Avoiding subpeonas only makes them look guiltier, imho.

We should all be watching C-SPAN now, as Cynthia in TX suggested. This debate about the trillion dollar bail out is well worth listening to!
Just to make you aware of today’s poll #s
North Carolina-typically very red +3 McCain…still well in reach
Nevada-also normally red…only +1 McCain
Pennsylvania….recently slipped into 2 ties..now +2 Obama..followinf a +5 Obama
Minnesota…recently slipped into toss-up status…+8 Obama
Virginia….been red all season….now an amazing +6 Obama although it is only one poll
Only 4 more days to the first of the 8 potential “magic moments”
I am now officially in like with Dick Durbin!!!! He’s on fire!

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin on C-SPAN…very knowledgeable and well spoken re: bailout.
Hey, hold on a moment…1100 emails for $88,000 are you saying we need to pay $80 an email. She sure must have something she wants to hide, if they are already worth $80 a piece. And besides, I thought those were official state documents, was she doing state business or wasn’t she. If she wasn’t then she souldn’t be getting paid Gov wages. If she was then they belong to the state, right? If I lived iin AK, I’d be asking why I had to buy something that belongs to me.
Well, there goes her full discloser claim, so where are her open books now?
She has nothing to hide, but can show up to testify or will not turn over recored that will show what she is being paid to do…mmmm smells fishy in me.
I was talking to a group of pro-Palin women and they are not going to be swayed by this Troopergate scandal. There’s too much detail for them, too much info to wade through.
These were not strongly pro-Republican women, they’re happy a woman in on the ticket. The only thing I can see influencing them away from Palin is if she puts in a terrible performance against Biden, or if one of the big, respected networks interviews her and she comes across as unfit for the job of VP.
I guess Katie Couric will go easy on Palin. I hope Biden does not have to do all the spadework against Palin.
a Brit Abroad – well, I don’t think she’s ever come right out and said that she is anti-contraception. At least, I can’t find anything and believe me, I’ve looked. That view is probably extrapolated from her being a member of Feminists for Life. FFL believes the pill is an abortificiant and therefore should be banned. There is also some question on whether, during her time as mayor, the fact that the town charged sexual assualt victims for rape kits was based on rape kits usually containing “morning after” birth control which FFL also considers an abortificiant.
This is part of the difficulty with Palin. She refuses to answer any questions. Therefore, voters are left to their own devices and to extrapolate answers from what information is available about her.
Personally, I think the woman is a horror and I fear for this country if she is allowed to gain access to the federal government and all the power therein.

PBS’ Bill Moyers NOW is taking a poll on
Please don’t waste time or worry with this poll – already debunked as a fix.
My understanding is that the rape kits contained INFORMATION about EBC, not the actual pills.
In either case, it seems a total crock — a woman is raped, then is raped again by the city when she’s hit up for the kit ($1200! I saw somewhere), then has to go seek out info on EBC, then has to find a pharmacy and pharmacist willing to fill the damn prescription. All that before the case even goes to the DA, or before she has to face the inevitable attempt by the defense atty to portray her as responsible.
And people wonder why rape is so under-reported?!?!?!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,
WATCH THIS 4 minute excerpt of the ABC panel broadcast Sunday, Sept. 21,2008. It is the most powerful report I have ever seen in the mass media.
Then post it everywhere you can and forward it to everyone you know. This needs to go viral.

Lori (11:45:59) :
Lori (11:47:05) :
Sorry – that should read “An employee’s manager has a right to review the employee’s personnel file but NOT their WC file.”
——————————————————
I work in WC claims writing insurance claim reporting software for several states. The Workman’s Comp system state by state has been around since 1913. There are highly specific procedures for disputing a WC Claims that protect the rights of all sides at every point. Disputed medical rulings where medical fraud is suspected can be addressed by an Independent Medical Review process. Claim fraud can indeed be addressed by a private investigator working for the Insurance Company . But in my state where our company does this service also, it has to be using a state licensed private investigator. Are there state licensed private investigators in Alaska also? Is this the law? Can anyone just go out and start investigating someone using procedures that will hold up in a court of law? Is Todd Palin a licensed private investigator authorized to carry out such investigations? there are due process procedures on all of these aspects of any dispute. Like I say, it is not like 1913 was last year! There are volumes of case law on all of this over the last 93 years. If Sarah Palin has ever run a business that had employees, she apparently never learned much about the Workman’s Comp claim system and how it works by law in every state in the United States.
Just say’in.
To Kimbers, who said she was now officially in love with Dick Durbin : Did you know he was our IL senator who was the first person that got Obama to run? He’s the one who made the point about ‘a moment in time’ that Obama had to answer.
Now, we’re calling all lawyers! Some of you have mentioned your concern about shenanigans at the polls. Well, send this to all your O fans who are lawyers or law students. The campaign is amassing a substantial network of attorneys across the country who can be at the polls on election day to help protect the democratic process and make sure every voter gets his or her voice heard. This voter protection program is unprecedented – bringing thousands of volunteer attorneys into the process to make sure every vote in protected. Details at http://www.barackobama.com, of course.

Hey Everyone, I see you all are in rare form as usual.
Ok, listen here’s the deal. Yesterday a couple of us mudflatters determined it would be a good idea to have a unity day to show support and solidarity for Obama/Biden team.
It was determined we should either wear a t-shirt for Blue Day or do something.
I just discovered that on September 30 somegroups in Louisiana are having a Blue Day to show support where everyone is to wear something blue.
I am creating some t-shirts to be sold and proceeds donated to the campaign. I need your help on a slogan for the shirt. Something that lets everyone know we are in full support all over the world.
Give me some suggestions:
Lifetime TV Poll:
Citing a survey by pollsters Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake for Lifetime Television, the Web site said the McCain-Palin team holds a 44 percent-to-42 percent lead over the Democratic ticket on who has a “better understanding of women and what is important” to them. Obama held a 52 percent-to-18 percent lead on the question in July, the pollsters said.
Breaking it down further, age was biggest determining factor. Young women, ages 18-34, chose the Democratic ticket as being more empathetic to their needs, while women aged 35-64 went for the McCain-Palin ticket, the Web site said.
The Lifetime Television poll, which surveyed 534 likely female voters, was conducted Sept. 11-15 and has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No wonder some call it the “Women in Peril Network.”
Also, the margin of error erases the McPain lead.
HamletsMill said: If Sarah Palin has ever run a business that had employees, she apparently never learned much about the Workman’s Comp claim system and how it works by law in every state in the United States.
“Dear Supporter,
When I joined John McCain as his running mate, I knew I was in for a roller coaster
ride of ups and downs on the campaign trail. But, I want you to know that I joined
John McCain and the others on our ticket in this great election because I’m putting
our country first.
John McCain and I have been called “mavericks” and “reformers” because we’re guided
by shared values and principles and we’re not afraid to stand up to the status quo
in their defense. And that’s why we want you to send us, and other reformers like
us, to Washington.
Will you help send us to Washington by making a generous contribution of any amount
to McCain-Palin Victory 2008 right away? Your financial support will go a long way
in electing Reform Republicans in November.
As the mother of an active duty soldier, I want John McCain as our next Commander in
Chief. And I want to elect a Congressional majority in November who has the courage
to support our troops and who will stop bowing to political pressure and admit the
surge has been successful. We need to send a team to Washington who will support the
brave men and women in uniform and bring them home with their heads held high in
victory.
Friends, in the course of a few weeks, the Obama-Biden Democrats have launched
attack after attack on me, my family and John McCain. They’re desperate to win and
they’ll no doubt launch these attacks against other reformers on our ticket.
They are spreading lies and misinformation and we must stop them. Your immediate
contribution of any amount- whether it’s $25 or $250- helps McCain-Palin Victory
2008 fight back before they turn these shameful tactics on others we support.
I’m sure you’ve heard that in this election, the Obama-Biden Democrats have a large
financial advantage over us. You can help us close this gap today by following this
link to make your secure online donation to McCain-Palin Victory 2008. The financial
support you give today will make all the difference in this election. Thank you for
your support.
Sincerely,
Governor Sarah Palin
P.S. I hope you will join me, John McCain and the other Reform Republicans in
standing up to the status quo. Our ticket is ready to take Washington by storm and
shake things up to address our nation’s most pressing issues. Won’t you join us
today by making a financial contribution to McCain-Palin Victory 2008? Your
generosity is appreciated and I look forward to seeing you out on the campaign
trail. Thank you.
Because the McCain-Palin Campaign is participating in the presidential public
funding system, it may not receive contributions for any candidate’s election.
However, federal law allows the McCain-Palin Campaign’s Compliance Fund to defray
legal and accounting compliance costs and preserve the Campaign’s public grant for
media, mail, phones, and get-out-the-vote programs. Contributions to McCain-Palin
Victory 2008 will go to the Compliance Fund, and to participating party committees
for Victory 2008 programs.
Please visit this page if you want to remove yourself from the email list.
Sara Palin’s sister’s ex-spouse is the sister’s problem, yet Palin and her husband use their elected positions as hunter’s blinds to fire away at him whenever they lust for a blood hunt. That they involve themselves in her divorce, and continue to act out against her ex is sick, and is a measure of the depth and breadth of their capacity to hate, and act out viciously.
These two are voyeurs, they are both bitches, they disrespect the law, they disrespect the privacy of the employees of the Alaskan government, they are filled with hate and intolerance, they use their power sociopathically and destructively, they think they have the right to use the trust of the citizens of Alaska to act out hatefully and harmfully against Alaskans.
As an expatriot Texan, I take pride, that I voted against Bush 4 times – twice for Governor and twice for President.
Not every native son deserves support.
Please Alaska, do with the Palins what Texas did not do with the Bushie mafia. Don’t send them to DC. How about, calling them home and sending them to Siberia?
You try to escape from the news for an hour or so & what happens…. things just get crazier & crazier. Speaking of crazy, McCain is scaring the wits out of me. 1,100 e-mails
Say for instance, each one is 1 page long – that’s 1,100 pages to print
Paper is about $4.00 per ream (500 sheets) – so we’ve spent $8.00 so far
1 black ink cartridge is about $40.00 (doubt if you would even use the whole thing for just 1,100 pages)
That’s a grand total of $48.00 for supplies, to print 1,100 pages ($96.00 if each e-mail is 2 pages long)
Either way, that must mean they are going to charge over $87,900 in labor costs to print the 1,100 e-mails.
@ Waxman. I agree it’s not the point – I originally just really wanted to point out that as no one knows no one can claim that she is for or against contraception, or whether she regards the morning after pill as equivalent to abortion. It many senses it’s all beside the point, as the moral issue is simply that she claims not to have known that the small town of which she was mayor charged for rape kits. If she knew, she’s a liar, if she didn’t know she’s incompetent…
I also agree with the other posters with how essential it is to lay off the family issues. Not that anyone knows much else about her or what she actually represents first hand, other than a “blizzard of words”. Not allowing the press access to her generates rumour, which it is all too easy for the Repubs to claim is malicious. Go for flip-flop McCain and go for facts.
as someone who had had to go against elected officials in my town to obtain information, you can advise mr. cyr that elected officials are exempt from paying for ciopies of public documents. and, there are exemptions for the public, if the issue is of public importance. he needs to talk to the freedom of Information Office directly. he does NOT have to pay any $8,000 for copies of public records. Sorry. But I just couldn’t resist it…
I as stated yesterday on this blog, I am a Republican and I am embarrassed that McCain picked Palin as his running mate. McCain’s choice for his running mate lost him my vote. If you analyze Palin’s experience, qualifications and past actions (both professional and private) you will come to the same conclusion I did; Palin was only selected for her shock value. To me, shock value is no qualification for the office of Vice-President. Remember, the Social Security actuarial tables state that a 72 year old man has a 1 in 3 chance of dying in the next 8 years. That same 72 year old man has a 15% chance of dying in the next 4 years. I can’t see taking a chance on PRESIDENT PALIN.
With all due respect, I believe that Sarah Palin herself made her family a campaign issue when she shamelessly pimped them for public-relations purposes starting the first day she was chosen by McCain. She has used them as part of her qualifications for being VP. That was Sarah Palin’s doing, not ours.
In addition, the fact that Palin is such a disaster, that she pimped her famly when they are such a disaster, shows what a disaster McCain is when it comes to making important decisions. Hell, the last cat I adopted from the animal shelter I vetted more thoroughly thatn McCain vetted Palin before choosing her as VP.
This all goes to the issue of qualifications. McCain/Palin have claimed they are qualifed and held forth certain evidence to support that. If Palin wishes to use her family in that purpose, then that is her decision, but I don’t think her family gets a free pass when it comes to examining the evidence as to Palin’s qualifications.
When I joined John McCain as his running mate, I knew I was in for a roller coaster
ride of ups and downs…]]]
Here’s an idea: Save the plea for cash and, the next time you donate to Obama’s campaign, save the receipt, staple it to Palin’s plea, and mail it back to them in the postage-paid envelope they provided.
I’m tapped out donating to Obama, and I could kick myself for not thinking of this before, but I think it would be cool if everyone made a copy of their Obama donation receipt (blacking out pertinent information) and then sent it to McCain/Palin headquarters.
@ kimbers Chop Meth Palin (13:38:14) : Thank you for responding! I am taking the steps I need to in order to keep my sanity about all of this. Donate–Yup did that. Call my Senators–Yup did that. Keep mudflats open to update and get comfort from this group. Yup doing that. Working on postcards–next on my list. This whole election has just awoken me and I think has woken a sleeping giant. I will never be complacent again about my country. NEVER!!
I found this about recalling a Governor on the State of Alaska official site:
“The recall is the procedure by which the people may remove the governor, lieutenant governor, or members of the state legislature from office. The recall question appears on a special election ballot. [Ref. AS 15.45.470-720]
STEPS IN THE PROCESS
The three petition processes follow the same basic steps:
* PREPARATION OF LANGUAGE by a petition committee for the application
* COLLECTION OF SIGNATURES of 100 qualified voters who agree to act as sponsors for petition circulation purposes
* APPLICATION for a petition presented to the Lt. Governor, or in the case of a recall, the Director of the Division of Elections.
* REVIEW by the Lt. Governor, Department of Law and Division of Elections
* PETITION BOOKLETS PRINTED by the Division of Elections for the petition committee
* COLLECTION OF SIGNATURES of qualified voters in at least 30 election districts who support the petition
* FILING OF THE PETITION with the Division of Elections
* REVIEW of signatures by the Division of Elections
* NOTIFICATION by the Lt. Governor if the petition is or is not sufficient (i.e., there were enough signatures) to appear on the ballot,or in the case of a recall, the Director of the Division of Elections.
* PREPARATION of ballot language”
The problem is, the Lt. Gov. is just as slimy as she is, and he’s in SP’s pocket. Plus, he’s the director of the Division of Elections. How effective do you think a recall could be with that joker in charge??
Some more good #s today
New Mexico just came in +11 for Obama. Remember Bush won NM in the last election
Virginia just came in +3 for Obama to add to the +6 poll earlier today. Bush won Virginia by 8 in each of the last 2 elections. Yes, Virginia there is aa Santa Claus.
Here is a good article out of Salt Lake City
http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/ci_10526691
There are a few interesting articles on HuffPo today leading up to the article linked below. Steve Schmidt started out with a blistering attack on the NYT. Next, their executive editor Bill Keller responded swiftly saying:
“The New York Times is committed to covering the candidates fully, fairly and aggressively. It’s our job to ask hard questions, fact-check their statements and their advertising, examine their programs, positions, biographies and advisors. Candidates and their campaign operatives are not always comfortable with that level of scrutiny, but it’s what our readers expect and deserve.”
McCain Was For The NYT Before He Was Against It
“For a party that rails against the New York Times, the Republicans sure depend on the Grey Lady to score political points.
Palin live on Cnn right now. What lies now wil she say ?
Also on Huffpost today McCain states he has bought American all his life – ‘Ferragamo’s’ anybody?
Political Amazon (13:38:19)
With all due respect, I believe that Sarah Palin herself made her family a campaign issue when she shamelessly pimped them for public-relations purposes starting the first day she was chosen by McCain. She has used them as part of her qualifications for being VP. That was Sarah Palin’s doing, not ours.
Political Amazon,
I believe you are responding to me. I am not arguing with you or slamming your opinions. I simply believe even the polls show it is harmful to the Obama campaign to slam Palin’s family. There are SO many issues and so little time!
I read an post today in response to an article on Palin accusing Obama dems of spreading lies about her. It matches MY scenario, and certainly cannot be construed by Palin as a lie about HER. (no, Sarah, the whole world does NOT revolve around YOU!)
The post read something to the effect as a request for Cindy McCain’s outfit that she wore to the convention. If I sold off her dress I could pay off my mortgage, my car loan, and my credit card bills, pay off the parent loans on my kid’s college, put some in my savings for retirement, and have a LITTLE left over for a “rainy day”.
I had a long conversation with my parents last night (with my Repub husband in the room) about what a nightmare McCain/Palin are, and at the end, my husband actually said, “If it were Biden/Obama, I’d probably vote for them.” So, I’m wearing him down, little by little. It was great to have an opportunity for him to hear the points of view of people other than myself– I admit I’ve totally gone off the deep end about all of this. My husband thinks I’m crazy.
Anyway, I wanted to share that, since my husband is a “Gun Rights” republican from way back. They’re listening, they just aren’t quite there yet.
just tuned into cnn… she just talked about putting the federal checkbook online for all America to see. Hasn’t anybody told her yet that it has already been done, thanks to Barack Obama?!! She keeps repeating this one, like so many others. Sad.
Dear AK Mudraker-I have talked about analyzing Palin’s record and qualifications; now let me attempt tp analyze the Mudflats Website. First, very well put together and very easy to navigate. Second, apparently you have done much research into the issues and I notice that you take great pains to document your facts. Finally, I am attracted to this website because I see something strange going on here. I have blogs that I visit every day and they all make provisions to accept comments. These blogs sometimes have as many as 40 or 50 comments on special interest topics. You blog regularly has comments almost always above 100 and many times 400 plus. I also notice that the comments are from all over the globe. It is obvious that your website has uncovered the basic feelings of the real people of the world; not the people selected by the poll takers to make sure that the polls show what they want them to show. Your website makes me very leery of the poll results regularly highlighted on the evening news. Thank you for your time and effort.
Ok, I admit this does not have anything to do with the story directly, but might be God’s way of leading back to mudflats every day….
I was doing up some software for a client who is running a jobbank and this job popped into the test queue.. it is a REAL JOB and may be something Palin needs after Nov 4 and after she is ousted from office after Troopergate and all these others things going on, now that most Americans know where Alaska is!
@ Deb—ya right! Obama has 1 car, McCain has 13. Who really is the elitist here in this campaign?
@Bobg Yes, the number of comments is impressive. We have been without cable in Dayton since Ike blew in here and knocked out the power and cable. The steady diet of FOX/CNN that usually creates a soundtrack in my office has been silent and mudflats has been my lifeline into the real Palin (that and YouTube) but all somewhat second hand from the news… interesting peek into what people are saying, but without the benefit of having watched it first hand…..
@Babg I just wonder if she is QUALIFIED to be a retail merchandiser..
to AKM LOL @ being expert on santa! you go girl!
I know one thing has to be done by Alaskans. Right now McCain/Palin are leading in the state of Alaska. Alaskans need to turn this around and make it noticed by the news media. If most Alaskans are voting for Palin, then this is all for naught. Alaskans need to get out and do more to show their distain for this woman and what she stands for. I wish to God I was a U.S. citizen, I would be rolling out my RV with a sign on it that Sarah the Barracuda is a fraud and a liar. I would be taking donations from as many people who could donate and sending it to the Obama campaign. God help America if these two frauds get into the White House.
AnneinWA, be careful, looks like they only come in men’s 8’s and up. I don’t know about you, but that’d be WAY too big.
There is a most excellent radio program in Canada every Sunday afternoon called “Cross Country Checkup”. It’s 2 hours long and it’s a phone-in show hosted by an extremely knowledgeable and articulate host who is, without fail, always polite to those who phone in. He starts the program off with invieted guests who are usually ‘experts’ in their respective fields. The topics are always topical and of interest to the country at large. A brilliant program and something I wish we had in the US, as it keeps us in touch with how we all feel throughout the country – makes one feel closer to each other.
Oddly, I think this blog site is the closest thing to it in the US, even though the topic is just of the upcoming election.
Ky Fork Decoy Palin (12:04:40) wrote: “… The kit included a contraceptive, which Palin does not believe in, because of her religious views. …”
The part about Palin’s belief is likely true, but the contraceptive claim is highly unlikely. This has been addressed in earlier threads, by people who certainly sounded knowledgeable. One of them (can’t find it right now) listed the actual contents of a typical kit.
Here’s an excerpt from one of the related posts:
BTW, why is there no PREVIEW button?
@ Erin-
“AnneinWA, be careful, looks like they only come in men’s 8’s and up. I don’t know about you, but that’d be WAY too big.”
Just found that out. I’m going to do some more searching to see if I can’t find something else. Bound & determine to buy something today!! LOL
AnneinWA, be careful, looks like they only come in men’s 8’s and up. I don’t know about you, but that’d be WAY too big.
Erin,
I just noticed that too – I was rummy last night when I checked them out. I am now searching for yellow boots in MY size.
BTW, I also have a Republican husband that I am trying to win over – good luck!
I still have yet to see what penalty would be given to Palin if she is found guilty.
I, as a voter, think that question needs to be answered before Nov. 4th.
Or will it be Republican politics as usual, the criminal and the mediocre will be rewarded?
What planet do Republicans live on? It is just mind baffling to me, how they think! Who in their right mind, truly believe McCain/Palin is capable of running the Country?
I am convinced their souls already belong to Satan himself!!! Sorry to sound so harsh….but there is no rational reason to allow these two in the White House!!!
Anne,
Good luck to you, too! My husband’s getting closer, but he’s actually stated to me how he’s “afraid of Barack Obama.”
It’s a good thing voting is secret, ’cause it’s the only way some republicans will vote for Obama.
Oops! Forgot to mention – Obama’s Green Bay speech is on C-SPAN right now. I got busy shopping for yellow boots!
Political Amazon stated: Really, how much can Alaskans be expected to take from Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, who was not elected but seems to consider himself a co-Governor?
It is clear that Todd is the “shadow governor” and that Sarah considers him her assistant, even goes as far as to have First Dood following Wooten to “get something” on him. She frequently copied him on many government documents and state business.
Steak Leather, aka idaho43
When Lyda Green and Dan Fagan join forces with the minority dems of Alaska (remarkably there is an analogous precedence: James Carville + Mary Matalin). When an investigation is agreed to by the governor herself then subpoenas are ignored. When the McCain camp occupies the state government of Alaska.
What is to become of Alaska when Palin returns?
What is to become of the US if Palin/McCain prevail?
This Alaskan fears both scenarios. BUT, Palin should fear what Alaskans are now readily and openly thinking about her actions.
Anne,
Good luck to you, too! My husband’s getting closer, but he’s actually stated to me how he’s “afraid of Barack Obama.”
Erin,
My husband keeps saying, “Obama has to SHOW ME A PLAN”. HELLO! “I think we know McCain’s plan, don’t we? How’s it working for us?” I ask him. Barack is on C-SPAN right now stating his “plan” item by item, do you think he’ll listen? Sheesh! Sometimes there’s no way to convince a person who won’t listen…but I still keep trying!
AnneinWA (14:15:43) : Hey Annie if you find a good site let me now. I’ll do likewise. Not having much luck at the moment tho:(.
Annie
John McCain doesnt help matters much. He and his henchmen are always on tv saying…”where is Obama’s plan?” My god…Obama has been stating his plan very clearly for a long time. Why can they get away with that bold faced lie? Why do the media not say…”hey..wait a sec…Obama talked about his plan..here..here and here”. But no…they just let it go, and then to add insult to injury, the next time a dem is on the media asks…”where is Obama’s plan?” It drives me nuts.
@Diva
Regarding the t-shirts….I like ENOUGH !!!
But also kept thinking of:
“O”-Bluetiful!
O as in Obama and the play on words of “O Beautiful” from the song “America The Beautiful” for some stupid reason even though it probably is simpler to go with ENOUGH! lol
Please figure out a way to post what day this will be big and broad enough so as many people as possible can know and participate!!!! I think it is a terrific and wonderful way to show solidarity! And we can make it be around the world too! Why not paint the whole world blue….?!?!?!
Thanks for your post; glad I’m not the only one who finds being in agreement with both Fagan and Green to be an odd sensation. Usually I read the lead line of a Fagan column and go no further, since he’s just an aggravating dude. But now I’ve actually read three columns in full, all without throwing the ADN across the room…Strange times these.
I believe that what brings Fagan and Green and most sane Alaskans together is a desire for the truth. We want to know what happened, how bad is it, how does it effect our state and local politics and what’s the fallout going to be? It would have been ideal to reach that goal without the intrusion of the RNC Goon Squad; we do have some interesting days ahead.
Well here we go again. Today the economy continues to melt down.
I have to agree. Bush’s ownership society is nothing but a colossal fraud. I have to wonder if the mega-millionaires who got all those tax cuts will now be asked to help pay the bills from their failures.
Bush had a track record of running every business he ever worked for into bankruptcy, and now our country is on the verge. Wake up America!
When Lyda Green and Dan Fagan join forces with the democratic minority of Alaska (remarkably there is an analogous precedence: Carville & Matalin)…
When the gov agrees on full cooperation in the investigation and then ignores legislative subpoenas…
When the Palin administration allows the McCain camp to occupy Alaska government…
It is clear from her actions that Palin has adopted a political agenda and disowned all Alaskans.
I have heard from fellow Alaskans that they fear Palin’s return after a loss in November. I say turn this around and place the fear where it belongs… with Alaskans angry at Palin for selling out Alaska to McCain and anyone who would help advance her career.
What about the private investigator hired by Sarah and Todd Palin to find information on Trooper Wooten?
Is that not relevant to this investigation? Was it too long ago? Doesn’t seem like it should be, since so many other things seem to be relevant…
Anyone know?
sorry about the repost. I thought my first post did not go through…
” While we’ve endorsed hundreds of congressional candidates for election, both Democrats and Republicans, we’ve never before endorsed a presidential candidate. We have members on the left, in the center, and on the right, and we knew it could be controversial to choose either party’s candidate for the top office in the nation. But in an era of sweeping presidential power, we must weigh in on this most important political race in the country. Standing on the sidelines is no longer an option for us.
I’m proud to announce today that the HSLF board of directors — which is comprised of both Democrats and Republicans — has voted unanimously to endorse Barack Obama for President.”
I hear your pain, Anne-
Although, from what I have gathered McCain’s plan is pretty much more of the same we’ve seen for the past 8 years-
-drill, baby, drill (with big oil companies continuing to reap HUGE profit)
repeal Roe v. Wade (no change there from the right wingers)
-privatize social security (again no change from the past eight years)
-continue war in Iraq till we are “successful” and perhaps throw a war with Iran, Russia and/or Pakistan in for good measure (not much change there in foreign policy
-throw a little tax “incentive” (less than $2000 per family) at the middle class while big corporations continue to benefit from HUGE tax breaks and sending companies overseas
-no sound plan for environmental issues (it doesn’t exist, so why bother)
I know there is more but I don’t want to take up a whole page here.
On the flip side, Obama’s plan includes-
-seeking ALTERNATIVE fuels/vehicles and rewarding companies who come up and actually manufacture with alternatives…which also. and becoming a world leader in this area….
-increases jobs in OUR country with new energy technology and companies
-begin true DIPLOMACY with other countries to include helping with infrastructures/etc. to actually LEAD them to democracy rather than THREATENING them with democracy
-removes tax breaks for the very wealthy (above $200,000 will pay more taxes than they have been, middle class and lower will actually get a tax break)
I know I’m preaching to the choir here and these are just a few of Obama’s plans…but how can ANYONE not see that McCain is truly MORE OF THE SAME “plan” we’ve had for 8 years, while Obama truly has some vision!
Incidentally, Todd Palin said that he’d hired this private investigator without his sister-in-law’s knowledge (you know, the sister-in-law who was the one actually going through the divorce?) which I found to be REALLY creepy.
I’ll have to look up my source on all this, but I believe I first read about it in Sgt. Ron Wall’s report on his investigation into the accusations made against Wooten. (.pdf files of these documents are online on http://www.ktva.com’s “Commissioner Controversies”)
The truth must come out a few weeks before the election so voters can judge for themselves what a mean and dishonest person Palin really is…
Bill Clinton was just on The View & stated he liked both candidates. …..Bill, Bill, Bill …you are a traitor & a huge disappointment…long ago you sold out to Corporate America…you have sold you soul. Those of us who believed in you are profoundly disappointed.
Wonderful news about the Humane Society – I can’t imagine anyone who truly does care for animals, be it their pet dog or cat, or the diminishing wildlife which has been so neglected and further inhumanely decimated for the past 8 years, could even consider voting for this blood-red ticket. Ms. Palin is beginning to remind me of Lady MacBeth who could not wash her hands enough to get rid of the blood.
Thanks! Excellent post.
I thought Bill was disappointing, too. He waited so long to even respond, and then had to say how much he likes McCain, too. Screw that.
I’m going to a VP debate showing at my local theatrepub here in Anchorage. If anyone out there is from Anchorage, they are giving away free tickets at the BearTooth until they’re all gone. I hope to see some of my homies (that’s you guys) there on Thursday! Oh, and there’s a discussion afterward. Should be interesting…
Yes, it looks like it. All the heads of state are gathering this week, and many are attending Bill’s event.
One of the things that drives me crazy about Todd acting as co-governor is the number of time I heard, regarding Hillary, “but what about Bill! You know he won’t stay out of it.”
Having Bill, a two-term president with great diplomacy skills “assist” his wife is a Great Problem of Alarming Concern, but Todd the snowmobiler isn’t.
I’m telling you, people, we’ve all fallen down the rabbit hill.
Connie, thinking about the Red Queen’s “Off with her head.”
CoyoteMarti, thanks for the link! I sent it with my love to my husband.
Sorry, the VP debate is NEXT Thursday. You know, to give Sarah more time to prepare.
From Americablog:
President Palin. Nightmare scenario for this nation.
@mjc
Bill, Bill, Bill allways the pragmatic. While the country is in disarry you make sure you get your due.
Phoebe and Bec in Illinois,
I haven’t watched Bill on The View yet, although I TIVO’d him for later scrutiny. Here’s where I am with Bill Clinton. I figure HE OWES ME.
I voted for him twice and stood with him during the Lewinski fiasco (with my Repub husband shouting “Told ya’ so! EVERY DAY!)…but I digress.
During those “impeachment years”, I was teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grade students, and for those of us who are old enough to remember, the term “oral sex”, the question “was it REALLY sex?” became the red meat of primetime news and common dinner table conversation.
I have NEVER had to answer so many questions, about the sexual behavior of a president, while in the company of 10, 11, 12, and 13-year-old kids! That’s above my pay grade and was truly an awful experience for me. Don’t get me wrong, I teach sex-ed every year as our state curriculum requires (abstinence, protection, STD’s, HIV/AIDS and I am quite okay with that).
Of course, the motives and reasonableness of the charges always loomed (although I would be immediately dismissed from my job if the mere charge of sexual impropriety was brought against me, as an agent of the state), and I stood behind a man I believed to be a good, though flawed, president…but now I think he owes me – AND YOU – by backing Obama FOR REAL.
Before any of you jump on me for thumpin’ on Bill, you must understand that I will always be able to defend the record of Clinton and his administration – NOT BUSH’s. But I do have to admit I was disappointed in Bill’s behavior in that oval office.
Wow, I almost went a whole day without coming here!
For Erin, and anyone else whose spouses are GOPers who might be need a bit more info to be converted to Team Obama/Biden, here’s a quote I got from my Obama canvassing sheet for Pennsylvania. (These are quotes we could have read to voters on specific issues when we were door-to-door): “GUNS. Barack is not going to take away your guns. He has the utmost respect for the 2nd Amendment; both he and Joe Biden are constitutional law professors. As President, he will protect your right to purchase, own, transport and use guns.”
(Personally, I am a major gun control person.)
Phoebe…re: Bill Clinton on the View
I think he did the right thing. Why alienate a repub who may be thinking of voting dem.
Theirs an old saying…keep your friends close…and your enemies closer. I feel Clinton is doing the exact thing he needs to.
lurkaloo (12:24:09) :
Avoid the PBS poll. It does take 5 seconds so you can do 12 in a minute or 720 in an hour. Instead do as I did and email PBS and tell them to take down such an invalid instrument of measurement. They are better than that.
God…theres…not theirs.
HO-LY crap, Palin and her ilk are perfect replacements for Bush and Cheney.
arrrrrgh.
Correction above. I should have written “gun-loving GOPers who might need more info…”
Well, you get the idea. It’s a short talking point on Obama’s second amendment stance for anyone in the GOP, the NRA, etc.
Sad but true:
We keep getting messages to contact our Senators and Representatives to express our opposition to the massive bailout of Wall Street. However, one of Alaska’s Senators(Ted Stevens) started his corruption trail in D.C. today. Our only Representative (Don Young) has already spent over $1 million on legal fees this year because he’s under investigation by the F.B.I. So, he has to look out for his our ass and could care less about ours. That leaves Senator Lisa Murkowski who was appointed by her father while he was the Governor of Alaska! Ha! Now you know why this site was correctly named mudflats! Alaskans are up to their eyeballs in the mud of Republican corruption, and many of us are soooooo weary of it.
***I don’t know if this is a new development in the Troopergate Investigation.
Attorneys for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Met With a Special Investigator for the Alaska Personnel Board
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5860555&page=1
This is new… Apparently she has decided to cooperate with the investigation by the personnel board. That’s the ethics complaint she filed against herself so that it would be investigated not by the Legislature, but by a 3-person governor appointed all-Republican board. A few days ago she filed for her own complaint against herself to be dismissed. Now apparently she may be changing her mind. This has nothing to do with the ‘official’ investigation by the legislature. Now I’m going to go lie down because I’m dizzy… AKM
@AnnieinWa
Yes, I feel the same way. I have a daughter that was about that age, (Monica’s), at that time & although I supported him I had some difficulty accepting his behavior. The reason I bring this up is that…… yes….Bill owes us. ” If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.”
From the Humane Society today:
While McCain’s positions on animal protection have been lukewarm, his choice of running mate cemented our decision to oppose his ticket. Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-Alaska) retrograde policies on animal welfare and conservation have led to an all-out war on Alaska’s wolves and other creatures. Her record is so extreme that she has perhaps done more harm to animals than any other current governor in the United States.
Palin engineered a campaign of shooting predators from airplanes and helicopters, in order to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters. She offered a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf as an economic incentive for pilots and aerial gunners to kill more of the animals, even though Alaska voters had twice approved a ban on the practice. This year, the issue was up again for a vote of the people, and Palin led the fight against it — in fact, she helped to spend $400,000 of public funds to defeat the initiative.
What’s more, when the Bush Administration announced its decision to list the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, Palin filed a lawsuit to reverse that decision. She said it’s the “wrong move” to protect polar bears, even though their habitat is shrinking and ice floes are vanishing due to global warming.
The choice for animals is especially clear now that Palin is in the mix. If Palin is put in a position to succeed McCain, it could mean rolling back decades of progress on animal issues.
Please, please send this article to every animal lover you know. Also, the Humane Society NEVER endorses a presidential candidate. That just shows you how much Palin has energized animal lovers every.
CoyoteMarti ,
THANK YOU! Great post. It’s an article I WILL send to all my McCain “dug-in” leaning acquaintances AND relatives!
Someone earlier mentioned they thought Katy Couric will be soft on Palin. I disagree. For one thing, Katy Couric’s reputation is on the line. Since she moved to the evening news, she hasn’t done what they network execs were hoping. Another thing is that Katy CAN be hard hitting with Palin as she is a woman herself. I think she can ask tougher questions and not be blamed for playing the gender card.
I’m hoping Palin does every bit as well as she did on ABC with Charlie. That should bring at least a few more undecided voters to their senses and to Obama/Biden!
Anonymous,
I listened to the Senate debates today – they’re working hard for regulation, CEO compensation at federal salary levels and more. You would have been proud of Durbin, Webb and others. We need to support them.
Wow Annie – so glad I wasn’t a teacher having to go through that – but my son was about that age! With my kids grown now though, I’ve really been noticing all the Viagara ads and keep wondering how many questions parents get daily from the quite suggestive TV ads on all the time. Yikes! (You remember who started all of that — Bob Dole. But at least in his Viagara ads we didn’t see him posing in side-by-side bathtubs out by a lake with Elizabeth!)
I still wish he would respond faster when asked about Obama. He openly supports him. Hillary does too. Don’t drag out the response. Someone else put it well (commentor on MSNBC) — Clinton does NOT want to see his successes further eroded by a Bush-like admin.
Gotta go for a walk — have to STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER! At least I’m not still in my nightgown. How about you today, Annie? LOL
PBS now has a vote whether Palin is qualified to be vp. Right wingers are flooding it so please vote. It is quick and easy.
Hi all,
Way…back up at the beginning someone asked about Anne Kilkenny.
I have been in brief communication with her. Today she writes to me that she has had over 13,000 emails and “nothing will ever be the same again”.
I congratulated her on her bravery and told her she had performed a real public service by shedding the first critical light on S/P.
This lady deserves a real shout out and a big thank you from all of us on the mudflats!
Jonathan Alter from Newsweek, on Keith just said that the angry, over reactive McCain spokespeople is a reflection of the candidate, and his temperment passing down to the staff.
This is exactly what we do not need in these times, an angry, over reactive, hot tempered person with access to the military.
@Erin re: debate @ beartooth,
thanks for the heads up about debate at Beartooth. We don’t get television or cable here at our house (not a priority!), so wouldn’t have been able to watch it otherwise. I’ve got my aunt on the job of procuring tix for us. How about if we & other local mudflatters all wear our wellies to the debate as a sign of mudflats solidarity. Some may think it’s a thing about us feeling that the sh*t might get deep, but we’ll know better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Bec in Ill
Yes, we accepted some unscrupulous behavor from him…I guess Hillary has accepted this thourghout their marriage, but that’s her business. My gripe is that they have sold us out & are looking towards 2012. They helped to make the blueprint for McCain’s campaign & so they are always significant. Hill’s biggest supporter, DeRothchild, now supports McCain…what does that tell you.
re: the pbs poll. Well I”ve voted at least 5 times now which is patently ridiculous. Also, I am always highly suspicious of a poll that doesn’t tell you how many responses it has had.
I think we should all ignore the PBS poll and instead urge our friends and associates to read up on this crisis and what the necons are trying to pull on the American taxpayers now.
I urge anyone who doesn’t understand this crisis, to take the time and read this excellent summary.
It seems that Palin’s refusal to meet with press and take questions from the crowd is wearing very thin, and McCain has been loosing ground in ratings
and pollings. Now you have Alaska once again on the front page with Uncle Ted’s trial.
The current issues in AK regarding T/Gate will continue, and many Alaska residents, regardless of affiliation are opposed to outsiders suddenly telling Alaskans what they can and cannot do. Palin will not personally respond to the questions of transparency after stating she would fully cooperate which is contrary to the policies she ran on as candidate for governor.
Folks are becoming genuinely and rightfully concerned, and by the volume of complaints surfacing, some folks are beginning to speculate it might be problematic for Palin to be able to effectively govern upon returning to Alaska after the election.
Well, folks. Democracy (Republican style) in action. She won’t talk to the American public, but she has been set up to speak to various heads of state. I hope the women of New York turn out IN DROVES to protest this farce. And while they’re at it, grab her left leg and send it off to Alaska – you might get $150 for it.
Annie — I seriously needed to start that 12-Step program this morning! And darn – if I didn’t find two McCain signs in my neighborhood on that walk. But I had a little laugh, because one of the houses was for sale (and has been a while!)
Phoebe – please don’t give too much stock to DeRothchild. Did you see her on TV? Ridiculous. It was like a SNL skit. But I don’t get other Hillary supporters who can be for Hillary and now McCain. They aren’t being honest about their original reasons for supporting Hillary then.
Frankly, I find this whole treatment of this ignorant bimbo a travesty and SEXIST to the nth degree. She is a disgrace to all intelligent women and a pawn for all manipulating men. I am beyond disgust for this “new” Republican Party. It has devolved into cheap thrills of little substance. Shame on them.
But I don’t get other Hillary supporters who can be for Hillary and now McCain.
They were along for the ride. They certainly would not have been Hillary’s choice, just incidental flotsam and jetsam. Palin and McCain are welcome to them. Why dilute decency with trivialities?
I am now at that time of day when I ask myself, “Is it worth getting dressed at all?” Hmmm! Keith O. is on, dinner in front of the TV – I can eat, watch, stay at Mudflats – what more could I ask for? I am an addicted woman. However, I am signing off for now. I have to get back to work for Obama. What will I do on Nov 5th (after the celebration, that is!)
Stuff is starting to come out about McCain, now. Check out this superb investigative article by Pulitzer prize-winning author Sydney H. Schanberg, published on The Nation Institute (byline: Dedicated to a Free and Independent Press).
“Dolores Alfond, sister of missing airman Capt. Victor Apodaca and chair of the National Alliance of Families, an organization of relatives of POW/MIAs, testified at one of the Senate committee’s public hearings.” I saw part of the Senate committee hearings on TV. McCain was a powerful member of the committee because of his POW status, and proves himself a bully who is (and has been) capable of anything.
This is the original version, with document proof attached:
To Phoebe and Bec in IL, concerning De Rothschild’s “defection” to McCain, my sources pretty high up in the Clinton campaign said she and one other high roller supporter were there to snag an ambasadorship after Clinton won. Ain’t no way they would have gotten such from Obama, so they were REALLY POd.
RE: OLD FART versus REAL SMART
Careful, I called McCain an old fart in a post and got flamed in e-mail.
People are frustrated, it is nice to have a safe place to vent.
The answer to “Where is Obama’s plan?”:
It’s on the website, where you can read it for yourself.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Of course, when people ask that question (echoing McCain), it is actually a rhetorical question intended to stand for the false notion that Obama doesn’t have a plan. So that is the OTHER answer:
If you wanted to know about Obama’s plan, you would have read it on his website. You’re looking for an excuse to vote for McCain, because there is no good reason to do so.
Thanks for keeping us posted on Troopergate AKM. I just got home from work and the first thing I did was get on to see what was up in the grand state of Alaska. I appreciate all the work that you do to keep us all informed with your well-written and informative pieces. Have you considered writing a book or becoming a journalist yourself?
Did anyone see 60 Minutes last night? Did you catch that point in McCain’s interview when he was asked if he would continue the war in Iraq even if the majority of people in the U.S. were again?
The first words out of his mouth were, “Well, what the people want isn’t important…”!
AKM – Rock On!!!
Anne in WA–Bill Clinton did terrible damage to the institution of the presidency. Sure, the right wing set a “perjury trap” for him, figuring that he would lie about one or another of his indiscretions. Their willingness to tie up the country to get at Clinton (and/or get back for the Nixon impeachment) was inexcusable.
That said, Clinton lied under oath. We can see now, with the perfect clarity of hindsight, where that road leads: lies about WMD, lies about Saddam and 9/11, lies about outing a CIA agent and so on. Lies, stonewalling, and bitter political knife-fighting for partisan advantage (Republicans) or political survival (Clinton). Most sane people didn’t want a president thrown out of office for lying about sex, so he wasn’t convicted. But now we have a president committing crimes involving war (lying about the intelligence, illegal surveillance of citizens, breaking the law by politicizing the Justice Department, allowing war profiteers to loot the treasury, advocating torture and then holding troops at the field level to take the punishment, etc.
So why no Bush/Cheney impeachment? For the Dems, the last one led to a one-term president (Carter) and 20 out of 28 years, post-Carter, of either Republican presidents or a Democratic presidency spoiled by right-wing prosecution. Going after Bush would look like payback for Clinton. And thus Bush has had a free hand to consolidate executive power at the expense of Congress and everyone else. The whole country might have been better off if Clinton had stepped down, Gore had stepped up.
That’s not me bashing Clinton; that’s me looking at the consequences of bad presidential behavior by Clinton.
PS–Rachel is covering Troopergate again….
However, in an interesting sidenote to this post by AKM, there is now news out about Sarah “cooperating.”
Coyote – that is interesting about the ambassador thing. I can really see that. But I would have screamed if Hill had awarded her one.
All during the final days of Hillary’s campaign, all I could think of when I heard her ranting and raving campaign staff on the news shows — they all thought they had DC jobs in the bag and now they are mad as hell. Especially her over-excitable campaign manager. Now he has calmed down and is working for Obama – probably in hopes they’ll find him something, somewhere. There are a lot of jobs to fill. But I hope Obama will do the job distribution right when he takes office. — Not go by those in his high school yearbook.
Katie Couric has some off-putting ways. Her questions are too long, and sometimes to soft or too inane.
BUT before becoming a TODAY anchor, she was a Washington correspondent for TODAY. She is fairly bright (graduated from competitive college, active in activities, with good GPA) even if she doesn’t have the professional presence. And she has LOTS of time to prepare for a short segment, not much that has to be spontaneous (which is when she shines as the girl-next-door-but-not-too-challenging) and LOTS of people to help her who want her to look good. I think she can pull it off, although I’m holding my breath a little bit.
And now I say: AKM, I’m dizzy, too. Can you possibly please explain this or parse this further? So Palin has decided NOT to dismiss HER OWN complaint against herself, and instead she will let 3 of her GOP friends (a group she appointed) investigate her..And this is in ADDITION to the “official legislative investigation?” So there are two arms to the Troopergate investigation?
Why this would possibly be a smart move for SP? Does Palin think that if her 3 friends come to a different conclusion than the “official investigation,” it will make her look better? Because that’s really strange. How can anyone think a 3-person, Palin-appointed, all GOP committee’s decision would seem non-partisan? I mean, at least the legislature’s official investigation has 3 or 4 Dems on it, as opposed to being entirely GOP–even though most of the members are in the GOP.
I guess I’m struggling to see why Palin would do this and if you (or anyone else!) have any thoughts on this, I’m sure we’d all like to hear something more. Thank you for all you do!
I just e mailed and respectfully asked CBS to allow Ms Couric to ask Ms Palin serious questions – woman to woman so ther can be no ‘bias’ or sexism.
Let’s hope she’s ‘allowed’ to !
I am so confused. I thought Palin filed an ethics violation against herself so the Personnel Board (the 3 people who rely on her for their jobs) could decide whether or not she’s been a bad governor. Then I thought she filed to remove the Personnel Board investigation because “they couldn’t find anything that Palin ever did wrong.” Now ABC is reporting that Palin’s attorney is meeting with the Personnel Board about resuming the investigation. Is this a joke? Who’s on first?
Hey, Joy. I am confused about it, too. I hope AKM will enlighten us further.
@Phoebe (15:52:37)
So true…Bill “owes us” and until he makes up for the damages I am no Clinton fan. As a die-hard democrat in a family of repugs I could only hold my breath.
The stink was pretty bad and he has never really made up for the embarrassment and the disappointment. So far his support for our O has been frigid and dismissive. I am seriously pissed off and I am sorry, but Hillary has not abandoned ship. Until she does, I cannot and will not support her.
There is much that I liked about Bill…but to be honest, I always saw him as slick Willie.
Obama is made of finer stuff….that man makes me want to be a better person and to serve my country in a more meaningful way.
Speaking of stink…I read something good today. Paraphrasing…..”Whenever McCain sends out a disgusting fart…he turns around and blames it on Obama”
Something about McCain always reminds me of an irresponsible teen….he has never really grown up.
This article by Naomi Wolf is excellent and a bit frightening. Please send it all of your pig-headed acquaintances, friends and family. ( I just sent it to my mom…I will hearing about that in the morning)
The Battle Plan II: Sarah “Evita” Palin, the Muse of the Coming Police State
You know what? As a nearly fifty, tired, jaded lady, I don’t even need Obama to be inspiring. He’s an impressive speaker and writer, true enough. Just a reasonable person, a reasonably intelligent person who won’t enact more bizarro nutjob extremist policies, that’s what I want, and that’s what Obama is at the minimum! I’ll take it.
@diva — the 30th it is, for GObama Blue Solidarity Day ! I agree with “Enough !!!” or “Yes We Can” for the front of the T-shirts. I also like, “SO Happy I’m BLUE”
Okay, I finally got why this whole mess was ringing a faint bell from the past. No, not an Alaskan story, but a New Mexico one. Sarah Palin’s tactics, if these allegations are correct, reminds me so much of one Debbie Jaramillo, former mayor of Santa Fe. Same petty stuff, same tactics….only Debbie got voted out eventually, when she had attacked so many of her staff and the city council. This is like that. This stinks. Look her up if you have time….
I’ll delurk now…
Hi AKM. Even before I left Fairbanks for South Oz in 2000 I had heard of Sarah Palin. My first thought was, “Wow, she sounds like a product of North Pole.” (NP Alaska is 13 miles south east of Fairbanks for those of you who don’t know, and a bastion of ultra conservatives in the middle of an ultra conservative area)
I also thought it’s a good thing for the rest of Alaskans that she’s only mayor of Wazuula (Wasilla) and not going anywhere.
Oh how wrong I was…
Anyways, being out of the country for the last 8 years (but keeping up with news and things), I can safely tell you that the whole rest of the world (or at least South Aus) is not only terrified of what’ll happen if McPalin is elected, but we also can not understand how in the last seven years the US has let one of it’s most precious possessions slip away: Freedom.
I’ll stop ranting now as I know I’m preaching to the choir.
I’m doing my best to parody Sarah Palin with my parrot pics, folks seem to like the cartoons so feel free to stop by anytime.
I think you and Phil Munger, Celtic Diva, KoKon and all the other Alaskan bloggers are doing a great job getting the word out about Sarah.
When’s the recall petitions start? If I was still in Squarebanks I’d be one of the local volunteers.
cheers to all from Oz,
LJP aka Revolver Trooper (17:03:37) :
Anne in WA–Bill Clinton did terrible damage to the institution of the presidency. Sure, the right wing set a “perjury trap” for him, figuring that he would lie about one or another of his indiscretions. Their willingness to tie up the country to get at Clinton (and/or get back for the Nixon impeachment) was inexcusable.
That said, Clinton lied under oath. We can see now, with the perfect clarity of hindsight, where that road leads:
YES! Spot on! EXCELLENT POST…AND…regarding Rachel Madow – I just finished watching her show and am revived!
yanno… if it were any politician other than Sarah Palin, Al Gonzales’ former employees at DOJ’s Public Corruption Unit would already be getting a grand jury together for possible indictiments. Or they might simply forward along an Information.
But Sarah Palin is the republican media darling and the PCU has lost its mission and its collective nuts. For no reason except politics, the watchdogs who keep the crooked politicians away from public office have lost their fangs.
Actually, many Alaskans may not not know how strange the Troopergate bedfellows really are. First of all, the independent investigator may have to recuse himself from the investigation. Why, because he may not be as independent as many think. Branchflower is not as independent as everyone indicates. Monegan worked with Branchflower’s wife for 16 in the Anchorage Police Department. Mr. Branchflower himself was also very involved with the the APD. Read the full story.
RLS (16:49:23) : Not too sure about that Nation article.
I looked thru that site you mentioned. Much of it seems to be pushback on criticisms of McCain’s behavior as a POW. His record as a POW is not an issue. I searched his entire site, and only found one mention of Sydney H. Schanberg, in a footnote, so I’m guessing he doesn’t have a problem with Schanberg. I’m also usually skeptical of sites that are heavy on emotion and light on facts.
I Googled Joe Schlatter and found that he is a person of controversy. Many military personnel and former POW’s express disgust and dismay at his vituperative writing, fact-twisting, and dismissal of pretty much any missing military personnel in the world who was not a POW.
Here is a small sample of what some think of him:
Sony Bono is going to meet up with Sarah Palin?? Did I read that correctly?
Didn’t Bono like… try to french kiss a tree whilst skiing?
Beyond the simple revenge issue, potentially using a governor’s influence over contracting to pressure a contractor into serving her private interests sounds corrupt as hell, like some kind of reverse influence peddling. There’s got to be some law against that?
Aren’t most blogs supposed to be discussions/debates of ideas? I happened to read through the comments near the bottom, and I see portland oregon native and SMR refer to this MAC as a “troll” and that he’s not wanted, all because he states an opinion, that seems to be rooted in about as much fact as most of the rest of this conjecture. I think if you want a support group, they have those, but to be mean-spirited because someone disagrees with your opinion is kind of counter-liberal, don’t you think?
LOL Sauerkraut! — Sony Bono is going to meet up with Sarah Palin?? Did I read that correctly? Didn’t Bono like… try to french kiss a tree whilst skiing?
We are talking Bono of U2 – the Band. Activist and highly regarded world “ambassador.” He is known to reach out to everyone, but she doesn’t deserve to have a chat with him! I’d love to see a video cam of that meet-up.
I can just see the next SNL….. Todd acting as Sarah’s spy out there photographing people on their hit list. Hillarious! I mean, really! Don’t these people have more important things to do? So this is what our country has come to…. a huge soap opera for real.
Anyone back from the event at the Bear’s Tooth tonight in Anchorage? Dying to hear what went on……
Thank you loudelf. Here’s the link to Mr. Branchflower’s resume from the Anchorage Daily News website:
A .pdf version is on the Alaska State Senate’s website in Senator Kim Elton’s directory below:
The resume clearly indicates Mr. Branchflower’s connections to the Anchorage Police Department as well as the fact his wife was a detective in the APD.
Chief Monegan was with APD from 1974 to 2006. He was the top cop from 2001 to 2006. The APD isn’t that big. Everyone knows everyone else. Detective Branchflower was directly subordinate to Monegan for about a year.
Also, if any of you require contact information for Senators’ Gunny Hollis, Kim Elton, Bettye Davis, or Johnny Ellis, you can just go to aksenate.org.
When you contact them, tell them to hurry up and respond to the FOIA request submitted to them on September 18th, and please do not destroy any documents related to their communications with Mr. Stephen Branchflower.
The request seeks “all documents pertaining to the Alaska State Legislature inquiry” into the Monegan matter, including all documents related to the hiring of Stephen Branchflower and the evaluation of any other candidates for the position; all communications between Mr. Branchflower, Mr. Monegan, Senators Kim Elton, Hollis French, and other members of the Legislative Council; all documents relating to communications between the parties and PSEA officials relating to the inquiry; all documents relating to communications between the parties and representatives of the Obama campaign; and all documents relating to communications between the parties and Andrew Halcro.
“Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire.”
This news article just came across from the Associated Press (AP). I read an article about Palin’s investigation manuvers on CNN and was confused, but the author of this article from AP didn’t mince words–he stated it like it is in the first paragraph!
Full story: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jOTk11gvqDAgD0cY3i4WjI_2YOxwD93C7NK00
@Mac: Are you from Alaska?
It’s a small state. Branchflower’s wife probably worked with Sally Heath for 15 years before working with Monegan! On a serious note, Todd Palin works for BP and was doing so while Sarah Palin was negotiating terms with “big oil.” I think Branchflower can remain objective even if there is an “association” between his wife and Monegan. People from work are usually called “associates” for a reason–they aren’t friends, but a person has to do day-to-day business by associating with people.
Are people in Alaska starting to talk about a Recall?
When you are contacting your senator about the bailout, consider also sending this note that I sent to mine:
“This insanity has gone on long enough. It is time for the US Senate to stand TOGETHER, and tell Senator McCain that Gov. Palin is NOT suitable to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency of the United States Of America – and selecting her has caused the world to question his judgment and fitness for the Presidency.”
For those of you who keep hearing where is Obama’s plan, it’s been on his website all this time: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Here is a link to an article by Naomi Wolf who discusses the problem with spying, harassing, and intimidating witnesses. If Sarah becomes VP, she will be threat to our civil rights:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/the-battle-plan-ii-sarah_b_128393.html
Yes short-timer, I am from Alaska. And Governor Palin’s husband did work for BP, However, Palin shoved a tax increase on oil and gas producers last year that doubled the state’s energy revenues to more than $10 billion.
That increase angered BP and ConocoPhillips and they postponed new projects in the Alaska.
So, Todd Palin most likely would have been fired or conveniently released by BP.
Cookie….there hasn’t even been an indictment, much less a conviction. How about a little due process here.
Oh come on Pacificnwgal…..that’s an opinion piece by Naomi Wolf. Jeeze….give me a break.
That is my point–Todd Palin wasn’t fired or released despite being an “associate” of BP. In most healthy working arrangements and associations, all involved can remain objective. Now, when you start including family and friends in working relationships, then it gets fuzzy. And that is the entire premise for troopergate–Monegan was essentially the victim of a Palin family feud.
RECALLING THE GOVERNOR
Erin (13:43:59) :
The problem is, the Lt. Gov. is just as slimy as she is, and he’s in SP’s pocket. Plus, he’s the director of the Division of Elections. How effective do you think a recall could be with that joker in charge??
————————————————————-Erin, et al.
In looking at the language of the recall process it says
“APPLICATION for a petition presented to the Lt. Governor, or in the case of a recall, the Director of the Division of Elections.”
the key words are “in the case of a recall, the Director of the Division of Elections” would handle…..so wouldn’t have to go through Parnell
I think it was the troll who suggested that Steve Branchflower will be biased because his wife worked for Walt Monegan.
In fact, Branchflower was also the investigator who produced a 2002 report heavily criticizing the Anchorage Police Department for failures in the city’s 911 system when Monegan was chief. This was the horrible case of Patricia Godfrey, whose husband was murdered in their home and who was badly wounded herself. Police and medics couldn’t find their house to help her for almost an hour.
So I’d say Branchflower can do his job. Those who assume he’s automatically biased are probably projecting their own weaknesses of character.
Also, anyone who wants to understand more clearly Trooper Wooten’s case and Sarah and Todd Palin’s involvement should check out this great site:
http://apocalyptickiwi.wordpress.com
Look under the entry “The case for the impeachment of Gov. Sarah Palin.” The post has a timeline and links to court documents and other sources. It’s a good place to refer people who are foolish enough to substitute Wooten’s bad judgment for Palin’s abuse of power.
egads, i need to take notes to remember who i want to comment back to, and all the topics! phew…. made it to the end. let’s see…
Bobg, welcome! Glad to hear from fellow rational travellers across the political spectrum.
Scotsgirl, so things are all dried out & ok for you folks in Houston? That sounded unbelievably scary. And I was really frustrated by the lack of MSM reporting on the terrible conditions down there, especially in Galveston.
Now on to various & sundry… I’ve seen a lot of wondering about the $88k pricetag on the AWOL Palin emails, but so far no definitive answer about this. Weren’t they subpoenaed too? And how can they not just be seized for the investigation since the executive privilege claim is so bogus, since Todd Palin, a civvie, is known to have had access to at least some of them?
Bec in Illinois & Anne in WA, was it? I obviously missed the first comment about De Rothschild. I never saw any MSM coverage, but there was a terrific piece, either on Countdown or Maddow on her that was just hilarious last week. (you could try a YouTube search; why o why aren’t the MSBNC vids easier to search?) The joke of her elitist self saying Obama was elite was hilarious. Practically an SNL skit. And then there was her later comment about “rednecks”… I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s been disappeared like Fiorina.
Rape kits: thank you, various posters, for clarifying some of the details. I’d heard the bit about the morning after pill too. Good to know that’s not true. The story was plenty bad anyway, and even worse once I found out, about a week after the original news, that the kits cost $1200. WTF??
Maddow’s seriously keeping on troopergate! Again tonight with Lyda Green. Kind of wild to see all of the Mudflats characters we’ve been reading about for 3 weeks show up on Maddow. For folks who’ve missed them, looks like you can search maddow & troopergate on Youtube; people are doing a great job of posting the clips.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but there’s another post to catch up on. Just want to say I love the Mudflats yellow boots across America idea. But since I wouldn’t have much cause to wear them here in the Bay Area (not only mild temps, but we’re in a damn drought now!), so can’t we please get Mudflats t-shirts? I would be a fiercely proud wearer of one till election day and after. And what a cool way to find the locals on the street who know the blog. Plus I’m in disbelief that the Obama T-shirt I ordered 3 weeks ago is still on backorder. Sometime BEFORE the election would be good, people! sheesh.
Please consider doing this. It’s important. It takes 30 seconds. PBS is
> > running a poll that asks if Palin is qualified to be VP. The right wing
> > has
> > organized a “yes” campaign and at the moment, “yes” is winning.
> >
> > http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html
Here is the nutty thing about Dan Fagan. Everyday he rails about the lies of Sarah but then he always ends up saying he will vote for Mccain/Palin anyway because Barack Hussein Obama is a Socialist/Commie.
He ultimately makes no sense. Don’t be fooled by Dan Fagan’s anti/support for Palin.
tweet
I saw the Rachel show last night with Lydia Green…she was outstanding in my opinion. I have been trying to follow this investigation since I first heard Palin selected as McCain’s running mate.
I had heard the news on route to meet family who is from Alaska when they brought their son down to the lower 48 for college.
When I told them the news we had heard on NPR they just laughed. They said it had been a rumor on the internet, not to take it seriously. I had to tell them No it is true…they immediately checked it out on the web. My brother in law said how can that be she is currently under investigation
Since then I have gone to Anchorage newspaper site and read everything I could on this investigation…the interviews, emails, etc
For the life of me though, I just cannot understand why this is not on every news channel 24/7 like all former investigations of any politican in my day.
Not only are they investigating the misuse of power for firing the public safety director, but now it seems the governor’s office also was trying to get the former brother in law’s workman’s comp denied. Did Todd actually take pictures of him riding a snowmobile to demonstrate he was not really injured?
Is Lydia Green the woman who the radio host called names and made fun of while Palin sat and laughed?
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin on C-SPAN…very knowledgeable and well spoken re: bailout.
************************
Yeppers, we love our senior senator here in Illinois, too.
Jeez, I wish more of the real truth was on TV and in the media…
Instead of how much Sarah is “inspiring” a new breed of conservative women…
Gimme a break…
Another great post…
@Disgusted Female
Yes, Lyda Green is the one who was made fun of by radio talk show trash while Sarah sat there giggling. Sarah is one classy act!
Yes, it appears as though Todd took photos of Wooten snowmobiling & that they illegally obtained the workmen’s comp file (at least illegally in my opinion, though I’m no attorney).
Sarah & Todd are pure poison & bullies. This Alaskan has always thought they were crap.
Due process is fine, if we can get due process, which is unlikely since the stonewalling & subterfuge by Palin & McCain continues. Alaska is getting the shaft on this deal (as well as pipeline, but that’s not being discussed here), and until the report is out we are left to draw our own conclusions based on info provided via others. Whether or not we trust the person giving the info goes a long way toward determining whether or not we believe it. That being the case, I don’t believe anything that comes from Sarah or the McSame camp.
________________________________________________
Contrary opinions are welcomed here, however, speaking for myself, I am here because it is a community of like-minded individuals. Commenters here often disagree, but I don’t think that linking articles to the McSame camp poison, as though mudflats has yet to hear the “correct” version re: events or people, could be called disagreeing constructively. (See Mac’s post at 19:05:17).
I was born & raised here in Alaska, have lived outside the state for about 5 years, so that puts me at 35 years in Alaska. I am not new to any of the political oddities of Alaska or these “bedfellows.” That being the case, thanks but no thanks, I’ll pass on the McSame spin.
I live in Pahrump NV…here we have similar problems with our elected officials taking a stance of better than or not subject to or thinking they can decide for…everyone else.
Our District Attorney Bob Beckett made msn headlines in news of the weird because he had rolled two state vehicles after being arrested for being under the influence in California two days in a row. Our state laws are anyone convicted of a felony cannot hold an elected official’s seat. What’s sad is that he will be tried in California after the general election …he was running for district court judge (thank god he didn’t make it to the general) and he will STILL be our district attorney…
One of the people running for Justice of the Peace is married to the Nye county sheriff…a little conflict of interest there that even the local ethics committee is ignoring.
Our Townboard in collusion with our county Commissioners repealed a town
