Dueling Palin Rallies in Anchorage.

12 09 2008

OK folks, it’s heating up here in Anchorage.  Get ready for dueling rallies!

Before she heads out of state to resume campaigning with John McCain, Sarah Palin will attend a rally in her honor Saturday morning at the new Dena’ina Convention Center in Downtown Anchorage.  The doors open at 7:30am, and the rally begins at 9:30.  We were uncertain if a rally would be scheduled, but they made the announcement late this morning.

Two and a half hours later, at noon tomorrow, the group “Alaska Women Reject Palin” will be meeting at the corner of 36th Ave. and Denali St. to hold a sidewalk protest with signs.  This is a non-partisan rally that encourages creative signs that stick to policy rather than partisanship.

Seems simple enough.  Two rallies – two schools of thought.  However, Anchorage conservative radio talk show host Eddie Burke has stirred the pot.  He blasted the organizers of the second rally during his talk show today on KBYR, calling them ….sit down…. “a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots.”  No, I’m not kidding and I wish I were.  Welcome to the dark side of Anchorage that makes sane, thinking people cringe.  Burke also announced the particulars of the rally…so there may be some unwanted guests.

The media, no doubt, will be all over the first rally, and hopefully some will cover the other one as well.  In any case, I’m planning to be at both, and will report back with the un-mediatized version of the events.

I think a big turnout at the “AK Women Reject Palin” rally could be a powerful statement.  Men and kids are also welcomed.

It could be an interesting day…

GOOD LUCK MUDFLATS and those brave souls who are joining you. Has the MSM been alerted to your activities? At least some friendly media types who have the brains (and guts) to report the truth, like Keith and Rachel?

Keep your chin up and don’t let small minded souls like Keith whoever he is get you down – YOU ARE GLOBAL NOW, Baby, and he’s still stuck in his small little mind.

Bill Mahr: I am not against Sarah Palin because she is from a small town. I am against Sarah Palin because she has a small mind.

Small minded Sarah is being somewhat ignored by the new Obama ads

“The McCain campaign’s lies make it clear that John McCain would rather lose his integrity than lose this election,” said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor in the kind of red-meat language a party’s base loves.

“The fact is, John McCain has voted for millions in earmarks and his running mate has requested more pork per person than any governor in America, including $2 million to study the mating patterns of crabs.”
From the Huffington Report

Gotta luv studying the mating patterns of crabs..

Yay for the Women reject Sarah Palin Group! I lived in Anchorage for 9 very looong months – I am Scottish but had lived in Houston too, I hated it in Anchorage. I have been in the Library that they are meeting in front of!
It must be scary to be so hated – sounds like one of those countries where if you don’t agree with them they hurt you or take you away……. i cannot believe the idiot gave out personal info!! What a warmonger – sounds like he was trying to incite something. Please stay safe people. I am so proud of all of the people who are standing up to the corrupt SP and her peeps.

OMG!! I found this post in reference to the rally tomorrow! Looks like they’re being threatened!!!

Alaskan woman Says:

September 11th, 2008 at 6:35 am
Look what happened today when a talk show host in Alaska broadcast and published the names, numbers, and e-mail addresses of the organizers of this rally (who knows how he got it). The voice mail threats have been reported to the police and they will investigate tomorrow. Keep an eye on http://www.adn.com for developments. Spread the word – we are being intimated and our free speech threatened.

Gibson just finished. Wasilla is gorgeous ! And Palin does have style. Still wish she’d take a loooooooong Alaskan hike and resign obviously. Whoever came up wiht that retarded book banning list should be aerial hunted. They’re using that to dispute the real story. It was probably a Republican fabrication in the first place @@ I don’t think he pursued anything enough. He gave her way too many outs. And I’m really missing Tim Russert every single day.

Eddie Burke wins maggot of the year!!!!!! He is universally loathed in Anchorage and has been for a zillion years. This born & raised Alaskan couldn’t care less what he thinks of her and can’t wait to A) write up my Obama postcards tomorrow before the rally, then B) rally my butt off at the AK Women Reject Palin rally! Bring it on! Now I’ll be bringing my husband, my toddler & my 18-year old daughter to make sure that every anti-Palin/McCain in our household makes their stance clear to AK and the world!!!!!!!

And scotsgirl, we’ve just moved back to AK after 4 lovely years in Scotland and gotta say that I LOVE SCOTLAND — it is now the home of my heart, but while I’m here in AK/US I am standing up for what I believe in & fighting the icky Alaskan political establishment! Slainte!

Just an aside… Gibson’s 2nd interview with Palin (on 20/20) is about to start where I live, but it’s already aired on the East Coast. Just from reading some VERY angry responses toward ABC and Gibson on their website, I’m going out on a limb and say it didn’t go very well for Palin. Should be interesting viewing.

Best wishes to all of the folks attending. Be careful…in St. Paul there were arrest and thuggery before, during, and after the RNC, something we’ve seen before, I am afraid.

Wondered what people thought of Andrew Sullivan’s comment today, or actually a reader comment, about liberal/progressive bloggers and media being played by the Republican machine and therefore giving undue attention to McCain/Palin? And not reporting on Obama/Biden enough? Interested in thoughts on this.

Patience and steel…applies to a lot in life, but especially now. Best wishes, you, like the Wasilla Dems, are part of a long and honorable tradition in this country, really, the ‘tradition’ that began this country.

Yes, the baby-killer attack. I am familiar with it. After saying he wouldn’t discuss politics during his sermon, our pastor then made it quite clear that he supports McCain. He invited us to talk with him after the service. When I said that I look at a candidate’s deeds rather than his words, he told me, rather loudly and angrily, “I will not vote for a baby-killer!” So much for polite debate. : ( I have not attended a service since (this happened about a month ago), and I do not intend to return until after the election. Sadly, many Christians will vote for anyone who claims to be against abortion, regardless of the truth.

@Sue – this is off-topic as we all love our mightly Mudflats, but you need to ask your Pastor if he will tolerate adultery and the breaking of the sanctity of marriage; if he will tolerate drug addiction and trying to hide it and causing people to lose their jobs for you; if he will tolerate premarital sex; if he will tolerate out and out lying; if he will tolerate asking women to pay for their own rape kits, if he will tolerate freedom of speech.

If you live near NC I have no qualms staring my Pastor down and asking these hard questions. DON’T BLINK, Mister. ;)

Yeah for the anti-rally!
20/20- Yes, the view she has in Wasilla is spectacular and she did much better on all topics not related to international affairs/policy/current events. MOST PEOPLE will think she is great. They hear her blathering explanations on the bridge and troopergate and earmarks and abortion and she looks good saying it so…they believe her because they want to. I was disappointed he did not follow up on some things (like what about the intent to terminate letter to the librarian that led to the threat of recalling her as mayor that made her back off of that firing- and by the way, where is that librarian? Stand up, woman. You are a citizen of this country. Tell your story!)

I am not throwing this out there to compare her to someone who may have harmed/killed their own toddler BUT I AM JUST SAYING (in relation to the charming personality) that many people wanted to believe Casey Anthony in spite of circumstances that are so damning (the big Nancy Grace story about the missing toddler whose mom did not report her missing for a month). Attractive, smooth, confident talkers can convince MANY PEOPLE of many things.
I am down tonight because people I care about (like my own brother and sister in law) bring up things like the Campbell Brown interview and as they tell it, Campbell was AWFUL because she kept firing questions at this guy (they don’t even know who he was exactly) and “she would not even let him answer before she asked the next question”…Then there is my friend who was listening to Neal Boortz (conservative talk show host out of Atlanta who delivers hate messages with regularity) today when I called her. I said, “Oh, please do not listen to him.” So, we got into the whole thing and she asked me, “Did you see the forum on service last night? MCCain has ANSWERS that have substance and Obama just talks and talks but says nothing.”
Again, I know I live in Georgia but I am feeling very worried about MOST PEOPLE.

12 09 2008
Sue

Proud–Thank you for the support. I have tried to give facts, but I just get shouted down. I love the people in my church, even though our pastor is a jerk. Sadly, they all agree with him that whoever SAYS he is against abortion will get their vote. It is better for me to just stay away; I get too emotional and angry with him during election time. But I will have a HUGE smile on my face when Obama wins, and I will tout OB’s every move once he is in office. : )

Siege,
I know how you feel. My entire family still lives in Georgia and I almost can’t even talk to them anymore because there are almost no “safe” topics we can discuss. Inevitably, I get off the phone (I live in Ca) feeling very sad that we have so little in common, and very afraid for November, because these are otherwise intelligent people who just swallow the Republican talking points like it was candy. I just keep wondering HOW they can believe such blatent, obvious liars, but they do. And that is what truely scares me about November.

go get ‘em, AWRP! damn those bullies and their intimidation.

this is off topic, but I wanted to put it out there for mudflatters’ consideration. not necessarily pertinent for this blog, as its focus is AK politics, but for those of you doing your own blogging, I thought this was a very good point from a commenter over at Andrew Sullivan today:

“McCain and crew realized early this cycle that they did not have a visible internet presence. So what did they do? They took over the liberal presence, they are manipulating the leading liberal blogs, just as they manipulate the MSM. All to their own advantage. And the blogs have all fallen for this hook, line and sinker. Does no one realize this?

They are all being played.

And Obama, god bless him, he gets it. As does his team. while everyone whines he keeps at it every day with much much class and like a laser focused on the issues. The problem is not Obama, is that no one wants to follow his lead. Instead they are following McCain-Rove and they don’t even know it.”

This is still only a partial quote. And while I don’t agree entirely, I think there is something to be said for the fact that most of us are so focused on McCain-Palin, that we’re not doing much to forward the Obama-Biden agenda. I put it out there for your consideration, as we are so in need of reframing this election in positive terms about what differentiates the Obama ticket from McCain.

POST THIS EVERYWHERE YOU CAN AND SEND IT TO ANYONE IN THE MEDIA THAT YOU KNOW. MANY PEOPLE ARE PUTTING THEIR REAL NAMES AND CONTACT INFORMATION ON VERY CONVINCING DOCUMENTS HIGHLIGHTING PALINS RACIAL VIEWS.

The following is a statement from one of our Juneteenth Directors in Alaska:

By Gwendolyn Alexander, President

“As for Governor Sarah Palin’s involvement in the African American community, the Governor’s office hasn’t participated in any of our Alaska Juneteenth Events. All previous Alaskan Governor’s have traditionally attended and participated in our annual Juneteenth Celebration. Gov. Palin was the first governor not to send out a congratulatory letter or assist us in any way with our Juneteenth activities.

I didn’t have the courtesy of receiving a reply when I asked for a representative from the Governor’s office to come and speak at our Juneteenth Celebration if Governor Palin was unable to attend. I never even heard of Gov. Palin until she was elected Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, in Mat-Su Valley.

Governor Palin is a very energetic and spontaneous woman. With some of the things being said and going around this state right now, I’m surprised none of the national media have bothered to come here and get the words directly from the mouths of the people who have lived with her all of these years instead of ’surfing the net!’

My other opinion is why would an individual who, to my knowledge, has not hired any African-Americans on her gubernatorial staff, insist so passionately on being on a television show owned and operated by an African American, Oprah Winfrey?

While meeting with black leaders concerning the absence of any African-Americans on her staff, Gov. Palin responded that she doesn’t have to hire any blacks and was not intending to hire any. What kind of attitude is this toward African-American for who may be the first Vice-President of the United States?

I understand Oprah did have Senator Obama on her show a few times and was the main person raising funds for him “before” the presidency race was in full swing. However, the key point here is that it is Oprah’s prerogative not be used as a pawn to tilt the vote one way or another. Oprah has stated repeatedly that she wasn’t going to have one side or the other on her show by choice. I thought that was what the Civil Rights Movement was all about, a persons right to make their own choices. I guess this isn’t a Democracy at all anymore.”

Nice post, but you forgot to mention the fact that Burke also gave out the personal phone numbers of the organizers of the anti-Palin rally and had his listeners call them to express their outrage, which lead to their answering machines being filled with insults and threats. He later had to apologise for giving out their numbers on the air, but he denied urging his audience to call them. He should run for office himself, he has the Republican policy of saying things on air then denying them later down pat.

Long time reader, first time poster (POP!) Is anyone showing up to the Town Hall meeting in Anchorage with Ed Schultz (progressive radio host) tomorrow night? It’s an opportunity to get your voice heard worldwide after the demonstration. Tickets are $25. Tell the world the truth about Ms. Palin’s politics. We have so few days left. Be brave!

I wish I can fly to Anchorage right now to be there too!

I wish the folks that are going to be in the anti-Palin rally good luck!

I also wish for them to be very sure that they document (heavily: time, date and who is involved) any retaliations against them when do go back to work on Monday or in the succeeding weeks.

After all, this is Palin we are talking about. She might have someone spy, take pictures, identify and fire anybody who is in the anti-Palin rally.

I wouldn’t put it past the pit bull with a lipstick!

PS. And when Palin loses and returns as the governor…watch the unemployment rate of Alaska increase more than five fold…she will make sure everyone who contributed in her failure will be jobless!

Forgive me for not first expressing my best wishes for tomorrow. I read so many things on here that I want to reply to that I figured I’d copy something and reply to it before I lost it and couldn’t find it again.

Stay safe and stay resolute. Millions of women will be there with you in spirit. You are our voice, and we are yours. One voice.

Have to say that Palin did better tonight with Gibson. She’s more comfortable with the material. The lies fly off her tongue with greater ease. She wouldn’t give in on the bridge. She explained it in a way that many might say, “Oh, now I see. She didn’t do anything wrong, she just took the money and put it into other projects.”

Her thoughts on abortion were expressed calmly and rationally. Really, not much different than how Obama expresses his pro-choice stance. We all want to reduce unwanted pregnancies. That was the essence of what she said, while affirming she’s pro-life.

It doesn’t change the issue, of course, but her expression was without rancor. She wasn’t dogmatic. She merely expressed her opinion.

She was more human tonight. She was in her arena with rhetoric she’s comfortable speaking.

We are about privacy and respect for the privacy for an issue that should not be governed but should be quietly and seriously decided by the family and family doctor. We are about respect for everyone’s opinion – and I don’t want to sound glib -but I respect people’s choices to select no or yes.

I applaud your efforts tomorrow. Be strong and be safe. Here’s a quote to sustain us all:

“I will never forget that the only reason I’m standing here today is because somebody, somewhere stood up for me when it was risky. Stood up when it was hard. Stood up when it wasn’t popular. And because that somebody stood up, a few more stood up. And then a few thousand stood up. And then a few million stood up. And standing up, with courage and clear purpose, they somehow managed to change the world.”

I’m venting and don’t know where to put it, so I chose this thread. If it’s inappropriate, forgive me.

McCain on The View. Said if Obama accepted his invitation to do town hall meetings, the tenor of the campaign would be different.

Lemme get this straight. So the tenor of the McCain campaign is the result of Obama’s rejection. What are you, a “scorned woman”?

If Obama agreed to the town hall meetings, McCain wouldn’t have gone all Rove on the Dems and America.

Sounds vaguely like a man who beats his wife. If she had listened to me, I wouldn’t have had to hit her. (Yes, a little hyperbole, but it is reminiscent.)

I can’t believe this! It is just to crazy for this Canadian to comprehend, little own, understand this type of behaviour.

I’ve been reading this blog for a few weeks now, and I take my hat off to you, mudraker for standing up against this type of govt, that is not only insane but just downright looney. Thanks for bringing so much to the front of this election and enlightening us all about Sarah Palin, and not just the U.S citizens, but citizens from around the world. I’m passing this blog to friends I know to read.

I only wish I could do more here in Canada to make it right. We, here in Canada have felt the crunch from the economy of what Bush has done. Personally, we have had our children have to move North because of jobs and our economic downfall in our industry here on the westcoast of British Columbia. Our housing market is on the downslide….how far it will go, I don’t know. But here in Canada we are stunned at how the economy in the U.S. has taken such a free-fall dive so quickly.

I just finished watching the interview on 20/20. I think Palin did better than what I saw yesterday, when she was asked about foreign affairs.

Actually, I think she has some potential, but not in this decade. I say this, even though I disagree with her on most issues.

I was remembering when I first heard about her candidacy, and why I was appalled. I am from a small town, yet it is about seven times larger than Wasilla. Our city council meeting is televised, and we regularly watch it, and I know most of the council members. When McCain and her party immediately used Palin’s experience as council member and mayor as a credential on her VP resume, well it was absurd. Just as absurd as them throwing the PTA membership on the resume.

It is like preparing a resume for a high level CEO Position for a Fortune 500 company, and when listing your sales experience, you include Girl Scout cookie sales for Troop 202. Maybe you did sell more boxes of cookies than the other girls in your troop, and maybe it did give you valuable sales experience and helped you down your path, but would it really impress your potential boss? Can you imagine your new boss introducing you to the shareholders and saying “She is really qualified, you know when she was in Girl Scouts, she sold more cookies than any other girl in her troop for three straight years!”

Palin is definitely quick on her feet, and did some slick saves. She did a good spin on the book banning. I really don’t buy her version, in that she only asked the librarian what she would do if “parents” made the request. For some reason, I tend to believe Anne Kilkenny’s version.

Perhaps, if Sarah wasn’t so sucked into McCain’s Liar Party, I might consider her version. Reminds me of the boy who called wolf….keep telling whoppers, and after a while no one will believe you.

Since the first moment Palin was introduced to the American public, many things she said proved to be lies. Spins and tweaking the words at a later date doesn’t cut it with this voter.

Yes, she made it through the interview and I was impressed that she was able to do some quick talking. Yet, she didn’t convince me she had any real knowledge on the elemental issues. And the last thing we need is someone blustering and faking it through major diplomatic negotiations.

12 09 2008
Erin

Oh My God, I am watching her interview and I am so pissed off. She is such a liar. I cannot stand to listen to her try to wiggle her way out of answering the tough questions. And then my husband just said, “I am so surprised at how harsh he’s being with her. I don’t think he would be that harsh if he was interviewing Obama.” I’m considering divorce.

JT: That is the problem with liars – after awhile you don’t believe anything they say. I never believe anything the repugs ever say – never!

And you know what, I’ve begun to see that they don’t even care. They found out years ago that it doesn’t matter if they lie or tell the truth. No one cares.

They get the pro-lifers, the anti-gay crowd and in this case the closet racists (as well as all the non-closeted racists) so it doesn’t matter what they say or do and sometimes I feel that it doesn’t matter what we say or do.

I’m a little depressed tonight…

I’m going to send 40 postcards to Obama’s campaign. Thanks to whoever made that suggestion. I was going to go down and volunteer but Obama doesn’t have a campaign headquarters in Orange County and I really hate, hate driving to LA. So the postcards is a wonderful idea. I hadn’t read much about what the dems are doing these days in AK. I don’t believe I’ve seen one interview from Dem headquarters, I assumed you had one so I googled and sure enough here’s a list of events:, http://alaskademocrats.org/index.php?page=events
Hey, AK Dems you rock!

I would hope some of the lower 48 news crews would love to be invited to these events and interview a few people. Even if you have to surround your selves with pit bulls to protect yourself from hecklers show up at these events, think of new ones and keep getting the word out to the media and if they don’t cover your event email and complain or demand equal time. There are FCC regs and PS spots that you can claim if they don’t give you equal coverage.

Rallys and protests are fine, and I don’t want to discourage a single one of you from going. I would be there with you if I could. I just want to let you know as others have that any protest march can turn nasty and if you aren’t trained in non-violent action the media will treat you as the lunitic fringe and dismiss your effort. You will get the sympathy vote, but many folks will be turned off. Keep the non-violent line and don’t let her have the opportunity to call out the Nation Guard.

Remember it is much better in most folks mind to be for something than against something. And in her mind if you are against her you are a threat and she has the right to strick back first.

12 09 2008
J T

Ocliberal, sorry you are depressed, but I know what you mean.

I agree, they don’t care. And it is insulting. And it is disheartening.

A guy I work with is a Republican, and he is very pissed at the GOP, mostly at the last 8 years. Sometimes he acts like he is going to vote Democrat this year, then he says something derogatory about the Democratic party, especially because he is more atuned with the needs of the wealthy. He has never forgiven Jimmy Carter for the high interest rates during his administration.

When this guy bitches I remind him that his party behaves dishonorably and has horrible candidate choices this year…

This guy often makes cracks about Obama being Muslim, but I think he does that to bug me. And the funny thing, if Obama was Muslim, so? After all, doesn’t our constitution allow for differences of religion?

Good luck, AKM!! Your state seems to be quite the microcosm of our country right now; “bad guys” vs. “good guys” with the bad guys playing mean n’ dirty. I don’t envy the weight you all are feeling from this whole thing.

I went to see Tony Bennett tonight in L.A., and after one of his songs, he just simply said, “Vote for Obama!” and then went about his business. It was pretty funny, and it got a big reaction from the crowd.

So if Tony is on our side… we can’t lose! :)

Oclibera, if you don’t have an Dem office or center in your town/village/trailer court, email Dem State headquarters and tell them you want to start one. Then email or call a few friends and meet in one of your homes or in any public spot. If you’re very brave invite the media and press or email them after you met and tell them what you did and why you support Obama. The world needs to know there are Obama supporters in AK, even if there are only 2 of you getting together.

I think Alaskan Women for Obama is way better and more true than “Alaskan women against Palin.” There’s nothing there to be against. I’m so FOR Obama, and because I live in Alaska it FEELS like I need to learn and talk about Palin, but I guess I feel I know more than I want or, now, need to know about her, and really feel SO MUCH BETTER and CLEANER when I pursue Why and HOW and To What Extent I am FOR OBAMA. The against thing is a black hole for me. I hope those who attend the rally tomorrow will be FOR OBAMA. There’s the hope and the dream!!

I’m glad mudflats is staying up with Alaska news, because it’s important to know these things, but just as I was thinking these things my Aunt wrote about the interview: “On the News Hour tonight a couple of things came out of the Brooks/Shield commentary.

Both believe Obama will win.

I believe Brooks finds Palin unqualified. Both disliked the question about the McCain Doctrine.

Brooks said, “It’s not that we’re pro Palin it’s that we’re anti anti Palin.” Perhaps we all need to hear that.
The more we object to Palin the more the base coalesces. We’d best all get back to the issues and the idealism/vision that drew us to Obama in the first place.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a huge number of Obama votes in Alaska in spite of everything?!! Yes, WE CAN!

This election is so vitally important, far beyond the bright shiny thing being dangled by the Repubs. This link was provided by another person today and bears repeating:

“Fascist America, in 10 easy stepsFrom Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all.”

Obama said “enough”. Let that be the rallying cry. Not wasting time chasing the shiny thing. Palin is nothing. The country, the republic, is everything. And it is at risk.

I made several more calls today and invited six women to meet with me at a local park they all have little kids, so I thought that would be a fun place to gather and the weather is very nice here right now. These women I know are all Pro-choice and we are going to discuss why we believe this way and who we want to support, the Dem or Repub. I’ve already pretty much got it that they will be voiting for Obama this year, and I’ll be taking notes as to why we think this way, and sending a Press Release or letter to the editor, listing these reasons. Might not be much but my goal is to show the rest of ID and the country that both Repub and Dem who are Pro-Choice feel that Obama is the best choice.

After church on Sunday another group of my Senior friends are going out to lunch, We will also be talking about the election and who we support. One of the gals that is a good writer will be keeping notes so she can write a letter to the editor saying why Women of a Certain Age support Obama. We do what we can where we can, and support Women everywhere.

Not much? I think what you’re doing is great! This election IS about people. Grassroot efforts. Sure, the big money ads get the attention, but so does heart to heart discourse about issues that matter to people.

If Senator Obama’s campaign inspires you to do something you’ve never done before, we’re already becoming the America we envision. I think it’s fantastic!

On another topic, saw the last segment of The View. Appropriate or not, the McCains were either asked how many homes they have, or just about their homes. Cindy said she didn’t want to discuss it. Yeah, that transparency thing is working well. She said it’s not what the campaign is about. Well, yes and no. Your party can’t accuse the other party’s nominee of being elite if it seems you personify elitism.

There is nothing inherently wrong with being rich. If you earned your wealth legally (inheritance is legal) and share it with others (charity), there’s no shame in it. But when you conduct yourself in a manner that says I am above you and will not answer your questions, it’s unseemly.

Please some Alaska woman, please make a sign for me that says “Jeep Pike from Mississippi is against Palin.”

Too bad we don’t have enough time for all the people here to submit their Palinese names along with the name of their state expressing their dislike of Palin. I know it would be a lot of work for you in Alaska, but I swear I would happily donate $100 for posters and supplies.

my husband and i will be in attendance. i just finished making my sign… it says:

KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY

i guess it’s the topic i feel most passionately about. i know even if we are few in numbers it is crucial that we show that not all alaskans just roll over and give their support to an unqualified candidate simply because of her gender or her state of residence. i vote with my brain, not my ovaries! i wouldn’t doubt in the least if the national media is present… this is getting a lot of attention and it deserves it.

Love it!

“i wouldn’t doubt in the least if the national media is present… this is getting a lot of attention and it deserves it.”

I’ve got my fingers crossed. If the media wants to be accurate, I would think it’s incumbent upon them to show all in attendance. And I would think it would go a long way towards illustrating that all Alaskans are not blindly in love with Palin, despite her high approval ratings, and that women don’t vote for boobs, with both noun definitions applying, depending upon one’s opinion of Palin.

Good luck today, ladies! and know that no matter how large or small your group is today, you have the support of literally MILLIONS of people all over the world.

btw, I can’t think of snappy slogans to sum up these points, but they are two of the ones I am most curious about when it comes to people with McCain/Palin’s policies/beliefs:

1. how can pro-lifers also be pro-death penalty?

2. how can people who continually say they are ‘anti-big government’ be happy for the government to rule over what they literally get up to in their bedrooms?

Hey Mil
Thanks for the chart @ (22:53:04) -
Anyone,
How can we support this professional women’s PAC in order to get this chart published in the newspapers?
I don’t think any MSM will do so because the case is so clearly for Obama.
Has anyone recently checked this info? I’m covered up at work right now, and can’t do it. But I’d like to make copies and hand this out if it is correct.

AWRP: Be brave and safe. Wish I could be there with a huge sign.

I think the tide is turning against McCain: more editorials about his sleaziness and people mentioning her dismal interviews. She was better last night, talking about personal views and spinning her opinions and deeds. My husband, though, who’s been avoiding my obsession with this was shocked at how badly she spoke.

I know this is kind of boring, what with the emotional “baby-killers” remark, but isn’t all of Alaska part of a crude form of socialism? Isn’t taking money from business(oil companies) and giving it directly to the populace(1200 checks, I think), a big part of what socialism is all about(wealth redistribution)? I have no problem with this myself, but if you’re going to put down socialists, it would be helpful if you weren’t accepting these practices yourself. Does this guy give his rebate checks, or whatever, back to the Alaskan government? If not, he’s just huge jackass. But we already knew that.

Hopefully a 1000+ will show up so the national scene reports this story… it’s time to hit the ground running “YES WE CAN YES WE CAN”. Obama’s site has a neighborhood-to-neighborhood campaign running: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/actioncenter

An Obama supporter also has her own campaign going. A postcard campaign to the battleground states from around the world, not just the states:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/444zy
I’m going to get my postcards today. I was amazed to hear about this. My state is a given for Obama and I have felt somewhat helpless on how can I help. An opportunity has been provided.

Should that money be able to be used to finance outright lies in ads?

When Joy Behar asked McCain on the view about his ads being lies, the expression on his face is absolutely classic.

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.

* If you teach teach children about sexual predators, you are irresponsible and eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate laywer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America ‘s.

* If you’re husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that hates America and advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

Any follow-up on the rest of the Palin interview? I am interested in what people thought.

If McCain wins now, he will have a pretty hard time running the country. Having reignited the culture wars, he will find that no one is going to give him much of a honeymoon.

Not only has he reignited the culture wars, both he and SP have demonstrated the ability to lie, lie and lie some more. The country cannot survive another administration that cannot tell the truth. Will Trooper Wooten be there to protect the socialist baby-killing maggot protest?

13 09 2008
Kate Henry

Sue (19:13:01) :

Sigh…. god/guns/religion. Vote for those rather than what will benefit your family.

I suggest you go back to your church and ask to speak to the pastor. Tell him you have been thinking about his “baby killer” statement and then ask him “Well, since you think abortion is murder, what sentence would you impose on a doctor who performs an abortion to save the mother’s life. What sentence would you impose on a woman who was raped by her father and ended up pregnant and than had an abortion.”

That is the argument to overturning Roe v Wade and making abortion illegal. No one wants to answer that question. Because, in order to make overturning Roe v Wade be anything other than symbolic, they will have to impose very severe penalties on anyone who performs an abortion or gets an abortion.

I’m doing a no-no and crossposting. I found this in the “Hot Topics” forum on the Gardenweb:

“I live in Wasilla (I never knew what an awful place I lived in before the last two weeks!) and wanted to contribute to the Palin discussion.

The thought of Sarah Palin in the Oval Office is keeping me up at night and waking me up early worrying. She, like Bush, lacks introspection. She knows what is right and nothing/no one will change her mind. And she HATES criticism, so I’m wondering if she will be able to keep her irritation in check when/if she does more press (beyond Hannity). And she is over-confident to boot, hence the constant “Bridge to Nowhere” references despite the wide de-bunking.

Her frightening inexperience in national politics was revealed in the Gibson interview. What serious politician doesn’t know you should NEVER even mention the possibility of going to war with RUSSIA? I had a pit in my stomach for hours after hearing her response to that. I don’t see how anyone can defend her experience after that one. How hard is it to say “It would never come to that,” “that’s an incredibly unlikely hypothetical situation,” etc.? And believe me, being next to Russia is not national security experience.

When Sarah is asked tough questions, she almost always responds with a version of “the future is bright for the great state of Alaska,” etc., ad nauseum. Now she’s doing it with “reform” and “putting the government back on the side of the people.”

How, as McCain stated on The View this morning, is one woman going to reform “the Republican Party, the Democrat Party, independents, all of Washington”? Does he not see how ridiculous that statement is? All of this because she defeated the most unpopular governor in America and sold a jet that she pledged to sell as a campaign issue?

Alaska is by far the porkiest state of all. We, until the recent corruption scandals, have revered Ted Stevens (known as Uncle Ted before the recent indictment) to the point of naming our airport after him because he brought so many earmarks home. Why is McCain choosing to make earmarks, .6% of the federal budget, such a centerpiece of his campaign when his running mate was such a fan until Bush’s recent edict?

My uncle was a POW with John McCain, and I hate to criticize him, but this is too much. I would happily have Bush for four or even eight more years over Sarah Palin, and I am certainly not in the 30% of the population that approves of him or the job he does.

And I am not the only Wasillian to feel this way.”

13 09 2008
Kate Henry

I have a question I can’t seem to find the answer to. Is Wooten still a state trooper or did someone finally fire him?

13 09 2008
Kate Henry

And I am not the only Wasillian to feel this way.

I’m guessing that she is not the only Wasillian who feels that way. Just one of the few brave enough to voice their opinion. I read somewhere that the press is having a hell of a time finding anyone who will talk to them. The reaction is usually “I’m not going to get on the bad side of Sarah Palin”. That is too scary for words when the people in the town where she lives are scared to death of her.

The thing that scares me most is that the truth will not change their minds! All they care about is that Sarah is against abortion. Period. That’s it. That’s their only issue. They get irrational and abusive to anyone who has another point of view. I really worry about those brave people who are going to the counter rally. What a great rally! What a great time. We saw the true colors of the misguided out there. Why the curses that were flung at us were amazing. The lies that I heard told. I guess what really capped off the event for me was when one the radical protesters hit my 13 year old son with a drum stick as he passed the entranced drummer. Why it almost looked like an accident…almost. The verbal assaults and threats of violence toward my 2 other sons only confirmed my belief that the Obamanauts were slightly insane. Why I saw a mother slap a young man who was carrying a McCain sign. On old man wanted to “kick ” my sons “a**”. Real civil discourse there guys. I think all the warnings here to stay safe were only meant for the people that agree with the Liberal Mantra. Turns out the only violence I saw was directed towards the McCain Palin supporters. Really great rally, like I said. I did in fact get some good pictures of the Rabid Left in there true environment.

Good luck today women; I’m so glad you are taking a stand. Sarah Palin does not stand for women’s right’s other than her own. She has downtrodden women in her state and put the women’s movement back 100 yrs. She is ‘stuffed’ full of herself. Let the media show her, not all women, in fact most women do not support anything she does or says………..including how hypocritical she is with her own girls. Her children need more than she can give, motherhood is the first priority, not how you afford that beautiful home you have, while others do without literally.

Ha! What’s even funnier is that I was in Homer, Alaska Saturday,
and saw their rally.

25-35 people — several children in that group. No USA flags.
Population of Homer 4100 (approximately)

I’d say that 30 people is not the MAJORITY of the town of Homer.
And HOMER is one of the most LIBERAL cities in Alaska.
